((What music I think your ocs listens to based on what they looks like,,, tell me if I got something right))
Eb listens to hyperpop. This is a statement, non-negotiable.
Bank likes webcore and the SCP-3005 roblox game soundtrack. (And hyperpop but like less then Ebony)
I think Boxxy listens to five finger death punch and the call of duty:black ops - zombies OST
Allison looks like she listens to Studio killers and literally nothing else
Leti is a little more open and listens to studio killers AND paramore
Raina looks like she had a punk phase and never left (Green Day, mcr)
I have a sneaking suspicion that Fumei listens to slipknot but just,,, quietly
Shinda listens to doja cat
Yume looks like she listens to classic rock! And otacore ((and the SCP-3005 roblox game soundtrack,,,))
Ikute listens to fukin Red Hot Chili Peppers,,,
I think Bank just overall likes chill game OSTs ((such as Pesterquest/Hiveswap OST, the Minecraft sound track and maybe the Madoka Magica soundtrack,,,))
I'd say these guesses are pretty good estimates!
Eb's music tastes are mostly within the realm of alt and nu metal, whatever the hell ICP's considered, and some pop music for flavoring. I definitely think hyperpop's a good fit for her, I should get on adding that to her playlist lmao.
Which, I've made one for her! As well as Bank and Boxxy. Boxxy's is a bit of a WIP atm cause I just made it, but Eb and Bank's are pretty solid. Here's the links:
Eb's Napster Account
Bank's mp3 Player
Boxxy's Myspace Page
Anyway,
Bank's tastes are fairly accurate. She likes funky music, I wouldn't necessarily say webcore, more in the lines of EDM and City Funk, and she's actually the one most into otacore! She also listens to indie music and bedroom pop, and some alt rock occasionally. Sad girl hours lmao
Boxxy most definitely listens to hard shit, but I think she's mostly into really hyper, really manic, really wack ass music, ESPECIALLY if that music is HARD on the bass. Intense bass is like ecstasy on her eardrums.
Yeah Allison listens to Studio Killers lmfao. She also would listen to stuff like hip hop and reggaetón, and on a completely different side, shit like horrorcore!
Leti is mostly into 90's alt rock and folk. She also frequently listens to classic Spanish tunes, but that's a thing her, Allison, and Ben share together.
Raina is a fucking punk and she listens to a lot of emo and punk classics. However, she's also really into hip hop and rap. As well as house music. And, being the gamer she is, she of course is massively into Video Game OSTs of all kinds. Also she's a piano player and loves classical pieces. She's a fucking paradox
Fumei's a hardcore rock and metal lover! In fact He, Ikute, and Shinda all are! Ikute is more of a bigger fan of Slipknot than Fumei is, but he still enjoys them. He's more into stuff like Metallica and Rob Zombie. And he also really likes classic rock, I'd say he's a bigger fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers than Ikute is lol. He also has a bit of flavoring in his tastes cause he's also really into ska and like, stoner surfer ass music, Sublime is def one of his fav groups.
I think Shinda does listen to Doja but I don't think she's much a listener of her genre. Like I said before, she's more about Rock and Metal. However, she's also really big on Video Game OSTs like Raina is. Mostly Sonic OSTs. She is a diehard Sonic fan lmao
I don't need to repeat it with Ikute, I already said the thing. Anyway, he also fucking loves EDM and dubstep. Dude makes that shit himself and he's pretty good at it tbh
Yume like indie stuff, she likes EDM but not as much as Ikute, and she likes J-pop and chiptune. Her taste is kind of similar to Bank so I won't repeat the same things, she's just into mostly sad/numbing music. She also loves certain game OSTs! She probably listens to the Silent Hill 3 soundtrack a lot.

Your OCs Call Signs Would Be...
I thought it would be cool to see what my original character’s call signs would be if they had to select one, since I love Top Gun: Maverick far too much. (Since I have SO many characters, I will break it up a bit. This is strictly wrestling edition)
Sabrina ‘Rina’ McMahon: Pixie or Mama Bear - She is a fiery sprite and famously an extremely protective motherly character  Here’s what she looks like! (art by SidTheKid on DeviantART)  Aesthetic board by @nightmareantagonist
Arwen Juliet ‘AJ’ McMahon-Harter: Lens or Paparazzi -Loves cameras and taking photos
Thomas ‘Thom’ McMahon-Harter: River - Since he’s easy going like a lazy river
Presley Andrews: Moxie - Play off her attitude and her husband’s ring name is Jon Moxley  Here’s what she looks like! (art by @xjordynary) Aesthetic board by @nightmareantagonist
Priscilla Good: Johnny - As in Johnny B. Good
Odette LeFay: Mirage - Play off of a character name of hers Here’s what she looks like! (art by @ss-trashboat) Aesthetic board by @nightmareantagonist
Anika Tanner: Jasmine - Her ring name, inspired by the Disney Princess  Here’s what she looks like! (art by @ss-trashboat)
Willow Lewis: Mjolnir - Thor’s hammer, she is an extremely powerful person and has a background in bodybuilding  Here’s what she looks like! (art by @ss-trashboat)
Mya Hughes: Diamond - Part of her ring name Here’s what she looks like! (art by @ss-trashboat)
Tessa Schuyler: Nightmare - Part of her ring name  Here’s what she looks like! (art by @ss-trashboat)
Shirin McLane: Siren - Her ring name Here’s what she looks like! (art by @ss-trashboat)
Antonia Herrera-Bautista: Ember - She is a fiery Mexican woman, but something not traditional sounding  Here’s what she looks like! (art by @ss-trashboat)
Rebekah Funk: Hardcore -  Granddaughter of the hardcore legend, Terry Funk
Allison Adkisson: Sin - Part of her ring name, she spells her name Allysin
Caroline Rhodes: Dot - Her father is Dusty Rhodes, who infamously wore polka dots in the WWE.
Brianna Elaine ‘Laney’ Lunde: Enforcer - Her father is the legendary wrestler Arn Anderson
Bianca Morrison:  27 - This character is partially named after Jim Morrison of The Doors, a member of the infamous 27 Club
Adelia ‘Dee’ DeRossett: Dee - It’s already her nickname, derived from Adelia  Aesthetic board by @nightmareantagonist
Theadora ‘Thea’ Thibodaux: TNT - She has a very fiery temperament, can explode
Roderick Weston:  Reese - Variant of his ring name which is Rhys
Clara Ross: Pin-up - Play on her personal style
Ruby-Sarah Oswin: Sisi - Nickname derived from Sarah; also inspired by Empress Elizabeth ‘Sisi’ of Austria.

LIVESTREAM (and almost): WILL BERNARD with Nicole Glover, Ben Allison, and Allison Miller, SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 11 JANUARY 2024, 7:30 and 9 pm sets
I went up to catch a different show (the first night of Miguel Zenon and Dos Alos from early December) when I stumbled into this can’t miss one. Allison Miller at Small’s? With Nicole Glover? Even with a guitar player. I joke but slightly in that though his tunes were solid and had a nice overall feel, WILL BERNARD was, I’m afraid, the weak link as a player. I don’t think that’s just my anti-jazz guitar prejudice as I actually kind of liked the overall sound, no, his chording was simpler than many and his solos were too. He had a nice bit of slide, melodic and not cliched. He was a very very good rock guitar player in approach with limited pedal effects and a clean sound. Warren Haynes can hang with John Scofield and Bernard probably can too.
He can also hang with this band and they weren’t slumming or playing down to him. But I was constantly delighted with Miller’s inflections and infectious groove. She has all of Ari Hoenig’s four dimensional playing (melodic touches, rhythms within rhythms) plus a smoothness. She has played with singers like Ani DiFranco and Brandi Carlisle so she too can pass as a rocker, but here as always she’s much more. Seeing Glover as a member of someone else’s band reveals another side of her talent. Bernard remarked that she learned the tunes “in five minutes” before the gig. I take it she rapidly sees the logic of a piece and contributes readily to that logic and the leader’s vision. As a leader, she has of late taken her foot off the gas, to say more by not saying everything she can which is a lot and she only has so much time. So nice in sync lines with the guitar, some riffy soul jazz funk, intricate lines. Ben Allison’s bass enriched the whole proceedings and he listened and was listened to attentiviely by the whole band.
But give Bernard full credit for a batch of home-y, sometimes wistful tunes. No burners, though there was plenty of drive, but portraits of family and home. Comfortable, not in any way saccharine. He had wonderful folks to instantiate those ideas. So I’m very glad I found this gig.

Allison Russell Album Review: The Returner
Tumblr media
(Fantasy)
BY JORDAN MAINZER
On "Springtime", the first track on Allison Russell's second solo album The Returner, she admits she "used to think that I was doomed." If her debut Outside Child was about her journey to overcome abuse she suffered as a child, The Returner is a tribute to survivors relearning joy, and the complexity thereof. Russell's inherent hopefulness does not prevent moments of doubt from flourishing alongside mantras of self-worth; she therapeutically presents these raw feelings non-linearly, making The Returner a jaw-dropping manifestation of her struggle.
What's consistent throughout The Returner is that while despair and radical yearning often go hand-in-hand, the longevity of the latter can trump the oft-temporarily-incapacitating former. "So long / farewell / adieu adieu / to that tunnel I went through," Russell sings on "Springtime", marching forward with her clarinet in hand, the song eventually swelling with strings, firing keyboards, and funky drums. Fleeting feelings are treated as such: Her ask on the title track to "Throw me in the ocean and see if I can swim," atop wincing electric guitar, is quickly subsumed by declarations that "I'm worthy". "Shadowlands" starts with an all-timer of a first line, Russell singing, "I woke up from a goddamn nightmare / Just to find the house was on fire," though through deep breaths of strings and scratchy guitar, she stirringly proclaims, "We can't be broken."
Russell's words aren't platitudes, trying to convince herself she's okay when she's not. They're evidence of her emerging stronger. "Every scar and every bruise / They shine like blue Botswana jewels," she sings on "Snake Life". The Returner stands out when Russell dives deep into tenets of Black music. Outside Child fit aesthetically within previous Russell projects like Po' Girl, Birds of Chicago, and Our Native Daughters. Russell's sophomore record, co-produced by herself and dim star (the project of partner and fellow Birds of Chicago member JT Nero and Drew Lindsay), takes on gospel, funk, blues, Appalachian folk, and R&B. Hell, there's even an Outkast reference on "Demons", Russell imploring us to not let our inner hellhounds dominate us and instead relegate them "to the back of the bus." "Stay Right Here" is perhaps the best song on the album, building up with a post-punk drum beat and piano before Russell's vocals take a soulful turn. Not quite house, it could at least be an 80's club anthem if it had more bass. It's nonetheless a heartbreaking admission of Russell's tendency to dissociate as a child and sees her thinking about her own daughter and the weight of generational trauma. Russell's ultimate moment of overcoming, her dream that, "Wanna hear my daughter laughing / She can hear her daughter laughing / When we die, we'll die fighting," indeed recalls songs like "I Will Survive".
Towards the end of the album, Russell alludes to the process of songwriting as a means to conquer those aforementioned demons. On "Snake Life", she sings, "The bountiful Blackness / Weds that pregnant silence / And a song is born," one of the most concisely invigorating descriptions of creativity I've maybe ever heard in a song. And then there's a simple juxtaposition in the final track "Requiem", where she admits over scraping guitars that, "Bullets fly faster than mothers' lullabies." At first, the line seems like a litany, a mournful acknowledgement of the unfortunate power of violence. But then she makes a case for the slow burn: "Hope is a prairie fire." Something that can spawn new life in the wake of destruction is a fitting metaphor for Russell's artistry to date. Hope might be slower than the act of burning it all down, but its potential is greater than anything.

Joel Harrison, Anthony Pirog, Stephan Crump & Allison Miller – The Great Mirage These Washington, D.C. musicians have a common ancestral line musically. They enjoy in equal measure jazz, rock, fusion, avant-garde, folk, funk & country genres — but not separately. They take a needle & thread them into one fabric for quite a unique blended showcase. A true collaboration between Mr. Harrison…
