Repost @this_is_houston This puppy appeared at St. Thomas High School and a couple of the students kept the pup safe while searching for help. Obviously, something is very wrong 💔 it’s not heartworms and it isn’t pregnancy as the puppy is too young for either of those. Repost @this_is_houston Diego decided he can use his back leg after all ☺️ We suspect he was hit by a car at some point in his life since he has two fractured femurs. He wasn’t using one of his back legs at all since he was rescued and we were preparing for an amputation. But as he’s putting weight on, he’s building muscle and feeling better and using that back leg again! He’s also starting to be super playful and loves to roll around in the grass. He got caught up in some vines and used his bad leg for support, then it was as if he was like “hey this thing works!” At the end of one of the videos, he goes to sit in the same vine bush and runs out of it on both legs. So, conclusion: vine bush has magical healing powers 😆🤣 And an update on his bladder stone, he actually has a urethra stone. He’s going on a stone diet to try and dissolve the stone, and will continue being treated for his UTI. His bleeding is a lot less than it was and he doesn’t have any signs of a stone obstruction at the moment. But apparently the stone can move at any time so foster mom just has to keep a really close eye on him. They all had parvo, coccidia, giardia, and hookworms. Unfortunately, one of their siblings, Jay Z, lost his battle at the ER, but he lives in on our hearts and through these guys. Repost @this_is_houston Mateo is our newest intake who was found laying in the grass unable to move at a park. He was just laying there crying when his finders came upon him 💔 he was extremely matted and when the matts were removed, they revealed bone exposure on his left arm. His x-rays showed he has a piece of metal wire embedded in his right wrist so we suspect his injuries on the left arm are from whatever wire he may have gotten caught in. He’s still at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists and was supposed to get his left arm amputated yesterday but he turned anemic and needed a blood transfusion. He started one yesterday but the jugular catheter was either not placed appropriately or it blew and the blood was seeping out underneath his skin. So a new one was placed, and he received his blood transfusion. He received a second blood transfusion today and should be going into surgery afterwards. He’s been sitting up and seems to be in good spirits which is good to see! We’re sure he’ll feel so much better once that infected arm is removed. Repost @this_is_houston l Diego returned to Texas A&M Small Animal Clinic yesterday. He developed a UTI and started peeing blood so he saw a vet last week and started the appropriate antibiotics but the blood turned into blood clots yesterday. Upon being admitted, his previous x-rays were reviewed to see if anything was missed and they spotted what appeared to be stones. They took new x-rays and confirmed a stone in his bladder. They were unable to get a urine sample for a urinalysis. His repeat bloodwork also showed his anemia hasn’t improved since his last visit and they aren’t sure why, but it’s not low enough to need a transfusion. He was started on a new antibiotic but if this doesn’t work or if he declines, he may need to head into surgery. He was discharged late last night and we will need to follow up with internal medicine. Diego really didn’t need another medical issue to add to his current list of problems, but he still remains the sweetest boy despite everything. We’ll continue to do everything we can to get him healthy again. Here’s a tidbit of his personality. Repost @this_is_houston One way to tell if you have a dumped dog is if they hang around the same building for days - as Frankie did. Frankie had been seen lingering around a Houston park since Friday. He refused to leave, likely because he was waiting for his human to come back. We know he was owned, or at least he trusted lots of wrong people, because he flinches when you go to pet him 💔 he prepares himself to be hit. He is emaciated and you can see his bones protruding from afar. He was struggling to walk and kept staggering, as if he was suffering from heat exhaustion. He was taken to safety today and animal control was called to pick him up. We were asked to help but initially said no so that we could focus on placing other bigger dogs in our group. However, animal control showed up for him and we had seconds to make a decision that may have saved his life. Frankie is currently being assessed at Vergi 24/7. Frankie’s story is like so many others. He is truly one the lucky ones. Repost @this_is_houston Imagine being born in a city so accustomed to seeing stray dogs, that cars drive by you as you’re injured, unable to move and in excruciating pain. Found laying on the side of the road yesterday evening, we can’t imagine how frightened Vinny was as he baked on the pavement watching the cars fly by him 💔 Thankfully, a street feeder, Sonya, came upon him and took mercy on him. She picked him up and waited 2 hours for help before we offered. He’s been at Vergi 24/7 since 10pm last night and x-rays confirmed multiple pelvis fractures and bruising on his lungs. He cannot walk or stand on his own at the moment. He will be moving to a surgeon today for immediate surgery. Vinny is only about 3-4 months old.
