Note

"such a troublesome person" - I wish I was better versed in both Anne of Green Gables and the Grisha-verse so I could appreciate all the world-building details that went into this crossover, but I am fascinated by the parallels between Anne's record in school in the original Montgomery becomes her determination to rise in the world via her training as a Grisha in Ravka - and what it means for her to be, much like Alina - an orphan in a hard world. Anne's not a warlike person, so her struggle to find a place seems doubly poignant! I do wonder - is there such a thing as raspberry cordial in Ravka?

You’re so delightfully kind to write this comment, since the story itself appealed to possibly the smallest sliver of readers, although I think if only the AOGG crowd would read/watch a little bit of SaB, they’d recognize the Pyes as a sniping cadet branch of the Lantsov dynasty within seconds. The toughest part of this was trying to figure out how to transpose Anne’s greatest gift—her imagination—into an equivalent Grisha power, since so many of theirs have to do with the manipulations within physics, AND it’s always been a pet peeve of mine that there is no division which purely focuses on mind/dream control. Gilbert makes a wonderful budding Healer and I couldn’t resist a cameo by Moody Spurgeon as a feckless Durast who always has a hint of smoked herring about his person!

(Honestly, I wrote the whole thing just so I could have Anne say to Aleksander, “Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think” when he finds her in the Library, reading about the Black Heretic after the battle, so he finally gets to have someone understand why he did what he did and not be called to account for it…)

30. Favourite idea you haven’t started on yet?

As mentioned in my last response, a WIP I haven’t really started on — but think could be fun — is Twilight of the Gods. (Lowkey want to do a WIP intro but I don’t need another project lol). The summary (this is the whole WIP at the moment, haha) is:

The old gods died a long time ago.

As humanity’s belief in them flickered, a fragile candle in the face of modern science, they had faded one by one. Terror at the first evanescence gradually morphed into grief-tinged acceptance, until all the gods were gone but two.

Ithicaea, goddess of light, had a small but loyal following - but she was still fading. On the other hand, Luther Montgomery had no hope of following his transcendent siblings into whatever remained for dead deities - once known as Alizamos, the god of death, he was damned to be the only one left. For what human could forget death?

In the human form he had assumed, it was easier to deal with his family’s passing. Grief was a human thing, after all - unlike the immense power of godly emotion, it could be understood, moved on from. And what was left for him in the sky, with the other gods dead and the only other remaining soon to be?

That is where our story begins. For though Luther and Ithicaea had accepted their fates, there was one strange, semi-divine woman who had not.

Her name? Aelithia. And her plan? To not let them go down without a fight.

32. Most difficult character to write

Hmmm... in Black Blood, Maeyak and Lanyth’ll be quite tricky, since they work together but have conflicting motivations; I also need to clear their backstories/personalities up more. In The Writers, I think Felix will be tricky — they’re a bit of a contradiction, because they start as quite a gullible, curious character but end up rebelling against the founding of the City with Evangelina upon realising the extent and immorality of Marcus’ plans.

38. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had

There’s definitely been some strange ones over the years, which I can’t remember fully, but my other recent one is a bit crazy, haha! It doesn’t have a title yet, but here’s the summary:

Alina Miyazaki finally has everything she’s ever wanted: a backing band, a record deal and a crowd willing to watch. But what the crowd don’t know is that a secret lies in her past, and a meeting with a reporter out for revenge, coupled with a fake-then-real-romance-turned-rivalry with a roadie, forces her to juggle her newfound stardom with the struggle to cover up a seven-year-old murder — oh, and the resurgence of some supernatural abilities.

Below are the rules for Universal, please remember there are security guards in the parks, and cameras everywhere. Follow the rules and remember that breaking them will result in swift and immediate punishment.

Follow the rules of the park and hotel.

School rules regarding orders and titles still apply while on the trip, and as representatives of the school in public you are expected to be on your best behaviour.

You must spend the night in the room that had been assigned to you.

You should be in your room by curfew which is 2AM.

You must have at least one dominant or dominant acting switch per two submissives in the park. Dominants and switches are reminded that by escorting you are agreeing to temporarily take responsibility for the submissive or switch in your care, and thus their actions will reflect on you.

You may not enter the park alone, you should at least be in a pair

If you plan to leave the resort you should clear this with either your head of house or a dean

While drinking alcohol is allowed, public intoxication while in the hotel is not. Students who are caught will be punished.

Any punishment requests must still be processed through the Deans or Jolene, however while we are on the trip you may submit them through text.

Should a prefect of any house catch you violating any of these rules on the forum or in person they are allowed to deduct house points, any complaints regarding house point deduction should be brought to the attention of the Deans.

Inappropriate behavior such as sexual acts, nudity, or anything remotely not safe for work is strictly prohibited in the Theme Park. It will result in you being banned from the parks all together, and punishment from the school.

Any orders from dominant while in the park are to be followed unless directly in contention with theme park rules, or orders given by theme park employees to cease activity.

Gin and Tonic;

WHO: Frannie Fabray & Alina Montgomery @alinamontgomery WHEN: thursday night 5/6 WHAT: bar in orlando Warnings; bad flirting

Two things happened at once that caught Frannie off guard, neither of which she did a very good job of shaking. She was out with LJ, a drink, some catching up. LJ was safe to be a bit more of herself around, they knew her the best and although Frannie still refuse to come clean about she and Sebastian's arrangement it was easy to relax around them. Too easy perhaps, she had lost track of what number drink she was on and didn't bother to worry about it. At the far end of the bar she reached for a drink the bartender had called out and set down and her hand came into contact with someone else's just as a waft of a familiar perfume filled her senses. Frannie's brow furrowed, trying to process both as she looked up half expecting her last week's companion to be standing right there next to her. It wasn't April, it was a woman Frannie didn't recognize at all but the perfume was unmistakable and the moment had her frozen with her hand over the strangers, staring. She blinked, realized and pulled her hand away so quickly it was miraculous she didn't swipe the glass over as she went. "Oh! Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!"

Alina had picked up drink after drink after drink and she wasn't sure if she wanted to stop anytime soon. She deserved some time at an actual bar with actual people after that karaoke night - and her own company was too distracted with something else. Not that she minded it, it gave her freedom to walk around, check the crowd and smile at strangers. When the drink she had in hand was done, she walked up to the bar to order another one - still not thinking about a bottle of water. And that's when it happened. At first she thought someone was trying to get her attention, so she immediately looked to the side, but the other woman just stood there looking at her. Alina couldn't help but laugh, turning her body to face her and showing her both of her hands. "It's fine, you can hold both if you'd like," she said, followed by a wink. And then she added with a smile. "I mean it, it's completely fine."

If Frannie's cheeks were red before they were even more so after the offered hand and though the alcohol in her system kept her eye's from widening she was still struggling with being glued to the spot. There was also the fact that on top of the sweet smell of the perfume bringing up a few tied memories, the woman's smile was entirely disarming. Frannie could barely find her next words. "I'm so sorry it seems we ordered the same drink and then... and then I just thought you were someone else for a moment." She managed, only stammering a little. Despite herself and because of the woman's friendly response she let out a nervous laugh, mostly at herself. "Please..." She gestured at the glass. "I can-- I'll wait."

"Well, here's to hoping it was someone great," she said, winking at the woman and going for the glass. She took a sip from it and then placed it in front of the nervous woman. "We can share, no problem," with a shrug, Alina crossed her legs so she could lean forward just enough. Just to make it obvious that she did it. "Besides, it gives me an excuse to buy you another one when this one is done. How does that sound?" She couldn't help but think that this night had finally gotten a little interesting. Despite her nervousness, the woman in front of her was beautiful. And she seemed the type that would make tonight a little more fun. Going out and scening with people from the Academy was great, but this was much more Alina's type of night.

Frannie was enamored, it was difficult for her to look away and when she did it was only to follow the drink to being set down before her. She looked back up at the stranger, judging for whether she were joking or messing with her, it didn't seem she was. Frannie glanced up to where she'd last seen LJ and gave a scan of her immediate surroundings on habit, cautious. What she usually would have said was something along insisting she could wait, that surely the bartender was working on another but, tipsier than she aught to be, none of that came to Frannie's mind. She reached for the drink and took a much more modest sip around the small grin on her lips. When Frannie swiveled in the bar chair her knee brushed against the woman's and she felt her whole body jerk in response, nearly losing her grip on the gin and tonic. Before she could embarrass herself any further and with a bashful lilt to her eyes, she placed it down in front of her sudden company. Mirroring the offer, and moving further into their shared space to do so.

Alina just couldn't help her smile when the woman sipped from the drink, keeping her body facing hers and watching with that same big smile on her lips as she moved to place the drink in front of her again. "Good girl," it was a long shot her tipsy intuition was taking, and not that it would usually be wrong or right, but incentives rarely hurt. Alina was torn between finishing the drink and dragging this for longer or pulling her closer - they were already sharing space, weren't they? Deciding on both, Alina took a sip from the glass and placed a hand on the woman's thigh as she set the glass down in front of her. "You know," she started, watching for the reaction she would get now that they were touching again - or better, now that Alina was touching her. "That's some great gin and tonic," just some random words while the waited, fingers slightly tapping against the woman's thigh.

At the sound of those two particular words together Frannie's eyes dropped closed as it washed over her. She'd gone from indulging so deeply the previous week to dodging titles from submissive parties on this trip left and right and she was drunk enough to let those words settle in her and warm her. By the time her eyes were open again she was already smiling, pink cheeks be damned. Frannie felt bold under the praise, she allowed the woman's touch to come to her thigh and she held her gaze as she spoke but as the bartender approached with that other drink she felt herself automatically shrinking away. Something in the back of her mind reminding her to be careful, even when she was drinking. "You're telling me." She said, pushing a hand through her hair simply to give her body something to do. It was getting hotter in there, Frannie was sure of it. "I'd have to agree...Miss."

Being right always felt like a victory to Alina and the smile she got after the praise she gave the woman felt like victory number one of that night. Moving her hand higher, she was moving closer when the bartender approached them and she noticed the her posture changing again. Alina leaned back, squeezing the woman's thigh as she spoke. She sipped from the new drink, shaking her head then. "It might sound cheesy, but it certainly doesn't taste as good as that one," she eyed the drink they had been sharing, allowing herself to laugh softly at her own bad pick up line. "So, gin and tonic good girl," Alina started again now that they were... alone. Not the correct word, but still. "I think we should totes have some fun tonight. You and me," she leaned forward, smiling, and just like that she was a bit too close again. "What do you say? You sound like my type of fun."

Frannie couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was, either the way she was being called that or the squeeze to her thigh but goosebumps quickly rose along her skin and when the offer was proposed she nearly choked. A flash of possibilities suddenly made their way through Frannie's thoughts and as she went to go put the glass back down she missed the bar entirely, spilling the drink in discussion across both their laps. She gasped and reacted trying to reach for it and right it. "Oh gosh!" She found herself saying and hurriedly gathered tiny square cocktail napkins from the corner of the bar to help soak up the mess. "I am not usually this clumsy," she promised, unsure if it were actually the truth. "I'm so sorry, I can't believe I just did that."

For a whole second, Alina just sat there trying to understand what had just happened. And then she was laughing softly, shaking her head at the other woman as she noticed she was trying to clean up the mess. She thought about letting her know that if she wanted to undress Alina this bad, all she needed to do was ask - but she felt like a comment like that might just break her. "It's okay, I have more of this back home," she pointed at her dress. "But we might need something more than cocktail napkins to dry these off," Alina said with a chuckle, leaning back. She thought about it for a second, and shrugged. "C'mon, let's dry you off," she hopped off her stall, a kind smile on her lips. "Take it for real this time," offering the woman one of her hands to hold, Alina made sure to give her a wink too.

In truth, Frannie was still recovering from the my type of fun comment. Her heart rate had sped up and at that point after making such a mess she knew her fluster had to be evident. She forced herself to take a deep breath and was immediately soothed by the woman's nice words. She wasn't angry, or bothered at all it seemed. Butterflies erupted in Frannie's stomach at the wink and she took another deep breath as an attempt to steady herself. The offered hand didn't sound like a question and Frannie barely hesitated to follow through, grasping her companies hand within her own. "You as well." She asserted, frowning at the wet spot on the pretty dress and momentarily getting distracted with her eyes hovering over the hemline. "Please," Frannie began, unsure where she was going until she refocused on the woman's eyes. "you'll allow me to help you too, right Miss?" Her voice had dropped midway, her grip momentarily tightening and her thoughts a mile a minute. Internally cursing herself for being truly incapable of properly flirting.

Alina was definitely not about to let some random drink on her dress ruin her night, at least not when she could easily buy a new one with a text message. She would rather have her attention on the woman in front of her that seemed to calm down enough at her words, making Alina smile again. She was about to lead them towards the bathroom when she heard her voice, making her spot and turn around to listen. Bars and their lack of... everything that allows conversation. Alina's smile went from a smile to a smirk and to a smile again as she heard the woman speaking, waiting until she could tell she was done. Leaning closer, she moved enough to be able to whisper in her ear. "I'm sure you can do more than just help me with this dress, right?" Alina leaned back as if she hadn't said anything, tightening the grip on her hand back and tugging just enough so the other woman would follow her.

Frannie's knees went weak before the woman even made it close to her ear, its was something about the look in her eye that told Frannie everything she needed to know before she even heard it. Still, her breath hitched and though she could barely find it in her to not sit back down at the bar in order to catch her breath she found herself nodding. Not just that, she gave a final glace around the bar over her shoulder and allowed herself to be lead away, knowing exactly what was about to happen. She didn't think she would be back to the random bar hook up so quickly but the opportunity was suddenly there and with a small reprieve from campus and more than a couple drinks in her system Frannie felt bold enough to not say no. The desire was certainly there and she didn't need to speak to agree, she only need follow along.

Alina was happy to see the woman following along, happy that her invitation was accepted, happy that tonight was just getting more and more fun. She couldn't help but notice that she seemed nervous about their whole interaction, but at the same time she was bold enough to follow along. To let Alina lead her somewhere. She weaved through the crowd easily, quickly finding the bathroom and letting them both inside, making sure to lock the door once they were both in. Wasting time wasn't something Alina was known for, but teasing was. She pressed her back against the door and pulled the other woman closer by the hand, her smile turned into a soft smirk as she did so. "Why don't you tell me what you want?" it was a suggestion, not a question. And Alina made sure her tone showed that.

The door was locked and they were in the bathroom under the pretense of drying off but that had clearly been quickly forgotten by both of them. By the time Frannie was being pulled closer she hadn't a thought in her mind. The privacy afforded her more freedom than sitting at the bar could have and she suddenly was fighting with herself on whether she wanted to kneel or kiss the woman. She so badly wanted both. "What I want is..." Frannie paused, squeezed the hand still in hers as if to gather the courage for it, pressed her lips together for a moment and said, "to do whatever it is you want me to, Miss." The words coming breathlessly and with a sigh of relief that just saying them eased in her.

Alina had to fight the urge to clap and show too much excitement at the woman's answer. She knew it, she just knew it she was her type of fun. And she would be repeating that a lot that night. The door was locked and she hoped no one would bother them for now, or whoever knocked would have the decency to know what was going on. Watching the woman relaxing in front of her, Alina's mind was filling up with ideas and she was almost sad they'd probably never see each other again. So, she didn't waste any time at all. Smirking, and letting go of the woman's hand, Alina wrapped her arms around her neck and pulled her down for a kiss.

Alina had spend the last two days reading all the material she could find out fire play, she read about safety and the tools and made sure to order everything she would need. And thanks to express shipping, they all arrived in time for this afternoon. She had already put the scene room of her apartment together, organizing it the way she wanted to. Pretty much bouncing on her heels in excitement, Alina was both too excited and too curious to see what would come out of their afternoon together. When Max finally arrived, Alina led her towards the room, finding the woman a comfortable place to kneel so they could first talk about what was going to happen. She had ideas and ideas running inside her head, and even though Max had told her she had no limits, she wanted to be sure. Always. "That's great, Cherry. Are you comfortable?"

Max was buzzing with excitement all day. All she could think about was her fire scene with Alina. There was no one daring enough to do this with Max yet so she was happy that she finally found her match. It was for that reason she put her best foot forward, not wanting to jeopardize this for anything. So she was completely sober and more than willing to be completely obedient. It took everything in her not to run through the Domme's apartment when she was invited in. She looked up at Alina once they were in the playroom and nodded, joyful at the use of her nickname. "I'm completely comfortable, Miss. Where do we start?" She asked, bouncing on her heels.

Alina allowed herself two small claps in excitement after Max's answer, giving the switch a smile before going forward with her explanation. "Alright! First of, I need you to tie your hair for me, Cherry. As tight as possible. It would be brilliant if you could make a bun, but a pony tail will do too. We don't want that getting in the way," she said, handing Max two hair ties she had taken off from her wrist. "When you're done, I'm going to need you to take off your clothes too. All of it. Because we are going to do some lovely fire fleshing today. ...If that's alright with you," The last sentence was added as an after thought. Alina had several plans, but that was her favorite one. She had tried it on her own legs the day before and it seemed like something Max would enjoy - if not, they could always make new plans.

Max nodded and took the hair ties from Alina, pulling her hair in a high pony, revealing the undercut that was still growing out. Her hair was still short enough that it didn’t touch her neck or shoulders, which seemed like a good thing for what they were about to do. She then got rid of the rest of her clothes in no more than a minute, pushing them out of the way haphazardly. Max was already excited but now that her desire was finally being realized, it was turned up a bunch of notches. She was visibly buzzing at this point. “I think that sounds amazing, Miss. So it’s super alright with me. Let’s do it!”

The excitement in Max was making Alina more and more excited herself. She let herself giggle at just how fast the other woman undressed and tossed her clothes aside. "Alright! Lovely! So I need you to lay down for me..." She said, walking towards the surface she wanted Max on, patting it. "Right here." The fluid and lighter she was going to need were sitting right next to it, on a small table. She waited for the Switch to move, tying her own her up as she waited, taking her own T-shirt off just to be sure as well. Once Max was over, Alina helped her get into the position she wanted. On her back, legs together and arms to her side.

As soon as Max caught sight of the lighter and the fluid, she could feel the excitement only grow. She had a hard time keeping still, but followed Alina's instructions to a T, laying down on the surface and clenching her fists at her side. She couldn't wait to feel the heat on her skin. Subconsciously, Max licked her lips when Alina took her shirt off, noting that both scenes she was being touched but she hadn't touched Alina. She wanted to change this. But she tucked that thought away for later. Hopefully she didn't forget it. "Like this, Miss?" She asked, forcing herself to keep still.

"Yes, Cherry! Just like that!" Alina said, letting herself clap once, twice, three times. She was excited to finally start. She moved closer to the things she had set aside - the wet towel, the fluid and the lighter and brought them closer to where she had Max laying down. "I'm gonna do a very tiny dot right here," she said, poking Max's thigh softly as she looked at her. "And you tell me how it feels, okay?" Alina smiled and moved to apply the fluid. She lit it up without warning, and then placed the towel on top to kill the fire before it could actually hurt Max. As soon as that was done, she looked up at the Switch, eyes bright with excitement, waiting for her answer.

Alina's excitement was contagious and it only added to her own pent up excitement. Max had been waiting for this for as long as she could remember and now it was finally happening. Even though she was laying down, she couldn't keep her head down and she looked down at the sight below her. As soon as she saw the flame, she was captivated. There was a quick pulse of heat and as soon as it was gone, she was craving more. "I loved that. I loved it so much. More. I mean, again, please!" She didn't care how needy she came across, she loved fire even more than she thought possible and she never wanted it to stop.

Max's reaction had put a huge smile on Alina's lips. Again. The slight worry she had on the bad of her mind completely gone now, replaced with a little more excitement and curiosity. "I love that," she said, winking at her. This time, Alina went to a much more ambitious spot on Max's other thigh. She poured more fluid and lit up the fire then, waiting the few seconds and killing it with the towel. Her eyes on Max then as she moved to go again, back on the first leg. She didn't wait for Max to ask for more this time, pouring the fluid and lighting it up. "This is so fun!" she said as she killed the fire one more time.

Max was glad that Alina decided to move at a faster pace as she went on. It was like there was a rhythm with how she proceeded. Fluid, fire, then towel. She was mesmerized each time, watching the flame take shape only to watch it be put out again. She barely felt the heat and after a few rounds of that, Max wanted more. "This is so much fun, Miss. But do you think maybe we can leave the flame on me a little while longer, please?" It was just like her, never satisfied and always looking for an adrenaline rush.

Alina looked up when she heard Max, her eyes being way too busy with the brightness of the flames. She gave the request some thought. "I would have to hurt you, Cherry..." she said, fluid and lighter in hand. "I'll leave just one tiny second more, than you tell me how it feels..." Alina said. She knew she could leave the fire on for a little longer before it actually hurt - as she had tried it before - but she wanted to be careful. As curious and adventurous as Alina always was, she tended to be careful when it came to other people. She put some of the fluid down and set it on fire, leaving it a little bit longer this time, before putting it out. "So?"

The one thing about Max was that she wouldn’t have minded the pain. In fact, she would have welcomed it. But she also wasn’t going to go against Alina’s wishes as a Domme. “Okay, Miss.” Anything she wanted, Max would have agreed to. When the flame lit up once moreover , Max reacted as she did the first few times: with wonder and excitement. The heat sunk into her skin a little deeper and she loved the slight tinge of pain she felt before it disappeared again. She craved that feeling and was grateful Alina was giving her the taste everyone else was denying her. "I love it, Miss. So fucking much."
