time for a ✨ very late intro post ✨
hey everyone! i probably should've made a post like this for my pinned ages ago, but better late than never, i guess? i'm going to stick part of this below a readmore because it got a bit long oops. you don't have to read this by any means but it's here now if you're interested!
★ i'm starlight or star! i'm in my 20s.
★ i'm bisexual and genderfluid!! sometimes i'm a woman, sometimes i'm a man, and sometimes i am agender. please either use they/them or check my blog description for my pronouns.
★ i'm also autistic.
★ my ask box is always open whether we're mutuals or not and i love talking about my favorite characters and ships and sharing my thoughts in general! my DMs are also always open but asks are a little easier for me to reply to. either way though i promise i don't bite and i love chatting 💖
★ i have an anime sideblog over at @ritsukageyamas, a blog dedicated to the emperor's new groove at @kuzcoskingdom, and a stim blog where i make my own stimmy gifs and post stimboards over at @glitteringstardust! i've got a handful of other sideblogs too but i'm not really using any of them atm. if/when i become more active on them in the future i'll add them here.
★ i also have a harry potter sideblog at @genderfluidweasley, which i made simply because i was deeply into the series for 15 years of my life before jkr published that awful essay of hers and as such there's a part of me that will probably always be nostalgic for it. i hate jkr a lot and don't support her or the HP franchise financially, but sometimes i get the urge to reblog posts about it and i don't want people who follow me on here to have to see them if they're understandably uncomfortable with it. i'm just listing it here so anyone who chooses to read this post will know about it.
★ sometimes when i happen to be in the mood, i make gifs and edits on here too! but mostly i just reblog a ton of stuff and ramble about whatever. occasionally i liveblog things.
★ i'm very sporadically active on twitter, but you can follow me over there too if you want.
★ main fandoms and other assorted info under the cut!
★ i'm a huge animation nerd!! i especially love walt disney animation and pixar films. some of my favorites include beauty and the beast, tangled (as well as tangled the series), frozen (mainly the first movie in particular LOL), toy story 1-3, onward, and coco. i love all kinds of other animated films too but you can expect to see lots of disney/pixar stuff in general on here as it's basically my longest lasting special interest.
★ i am also deeply in love with kingdom hearts and it's one of the things you can expect to see a lot of posts about. riku is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and i would die for sorikai.
★ if you couldn't guess by my url i'm also brainrotting hard over twisted wonderland lately and will likely continue doing so for the foreseeable future. i have soooo much love for so many of the characters i literally can't even pick a favorite dorm. but riddle and idia are practically tied for the spot of my fave character and i ship riddle/floyd and idia/vil very hard.
★ i am very into pokemon but especially the hoenn, unova, alola, and paldea regions and the pokemon mystery dungeon series. love pokemon adventures/pokespe as well.
★ so the above things are kinda the main fandoms you'll see on here but my brain is also constantly hopping between other interests and getting me in the mood to reblog and talk about different things!! some of those other things can include uhhhh the PJO universe, utdr, twewy, the original sherlock holmes stories + granada TV series, LOTR, ace attorney, avatar the last airbender, neopets, and also just. so many other things. unfortunately i shove 90% of what i like onto here instead of having sideblogs for the most part.
★ anyway--please please let me know if you need something tagged and i'll do my best to keep it in mind!!
★ uhhh let's see what else. i'm an episcopalian christian who goes to a very cool and progressive church, but i don't talk about that on this blog hardly ever.
★ i don't have a dni, i just block people who make me uncomfortable and even then i don't block people very often! so just be chill and respectful and you're probably fine.
★ hmm i guess that's all BUT whenever i update or edit this post in any way i'll mention that in the tags!
★ so anyway thank you so much if you actually read this and i hope you enjoy your day!!! 💖

(oml okay so I know you answered my Great Ace Attorney ask like. three weeks ago at this point, but I'm finally getting around to writing a response. I hope you remember what you talked about or can find that ask again alskdfgjfkd I'm so sorry-) First of all, OLIVE IS SUCH A GREAT FAVORITE CHARACTER YOU HAVE IMMACULATE TASTE!!! I felt SO bad for her oh my god, the moment where she tried to poison herself... holy shit it hit. it hit so hard, it's probably one of the darkest and most depressing moments in the game (and lord knows there's so much heavy shit in this game). 💔 TGAA does a lot of subversions from the main AA series, but I loved how she was an (attempted) culprit but also her "victim" was a culprit as well... it's utterly fascinating, I loved what they did with her character and 2-2 in general. She's one of the most realistic and grounded and subtle characters in the game imo, like she feels so normal: she's depressed, and she's bitter, and hateful, but not too hateful, and still sweet despite all of that... I loved her a lot, I want to give her a hug 😭🥹💔 the scene where she thanks Ryuu for helping her get closure was so touching, it made me cry. 💚 I was also really fascinated by her relationship with Shamspeare, or at least his reaction to her, considering that he didn't have any idea of her existence until the trial (I love him too, he's SUCH an interesting character)?? Idk I just think there's so much potential for their interactions post-series, though to be fair I say that about so many characters in this game alsdfjgkfld there's just so much juicy potential for character dynamics... Susato and Yuujin are DEARS, I love them so much 😭🥹💖 It makes me really sad we don't get practically any Susato & Kazuma & Yuujin family content.... I'm forever mad that their (+ Ryuu's) grief over his assumed death is so glossed over, I really feel like Kazuma desperately needed more screentime in the second game where he was allowed to just... be more vulnerable around them and get some sort of emotional catharsis, instead of just being his emo self the whole time :' ) 🫠 it's not bad by any means, I just think he needed so much more. Cause YEAH, his breakdown fucked me up too, it's my favorite scene of his cause it's really the only scene where we get a true taste of how much pain he's bottling up inside UGH. We needed more Mikotoba family scenessssss (seriously, Yuujin doesn't even react at all to hearing that he's alive again and it pisses me off!!! Like that's his adopted son of his dead best friend!!!)
(re: Kazuma though, my favorite Kazuma relationship is actually him and Nikomina from 1-2, or rather, hypothetical relationship. I wrote a fic about them actually lol I just want them to be brother and sister so bad okay :' ) maybe it makes no sense to anyone other than me lol but I need her to know he's aliiiiiive 😭🥺 he treated her so kindly... my heart)
Barok is wonderful, by far my favorite of the main characters and imo has the best written arc of them. He needs a damn HUG and we were robbed of seeing him smile at the end 😭💔 he makes my heart ache godddddd. Van Zieks brothers make me weep. Barok and Iris make me weep *sobs*
As for Graydon...... ahaha how do I even describe it. To be honest my thoughts on him could fill an entire essay; I'm actually responsible for a lot of posts and content about him on tumblr prior to the release of the localization a;lsdfjgkfdls (though under his Japanese name, Rupert Chrogray, which I prefer because I'm a snob lol), he occupied my brain for at least a year after I played the first game, and I still love him to death. He's just a really, really beautiful and complex character to me despite only being in one case... his story is so incredibly tragic, but realistic, and relatable, and so sympathetic to me, not to excuse his actions but he really does break my heart so, so much. I love the hints of characterization we get with him and his father, with him and the brothers, and I also ADORE thinking about his potential relationship with Gina, because they're foils to each other. I think he has SO MUCH POTENTIAL for a redemption arc after the first game, because imo he really is not a bad person deep down, and could change for the better if he's just given the chance to. I just love him sooooo much, I've written a few fics about him lol and I've delved into the Japanese fan content for him because I just need so much more alsdjfgkfld, he's such a beautiful character to me; he's so human, and flawed, and contradictory, but contradictory in a way that makes so much sense and is so well executed. Honestly he could have his own game/media all on his own imo, that's how powerfully well-written he is in such a short amount of time.
And OMG THAT ART OF IRIS AND KYOUKA IS SO ADORABLE AND WHOLESOME, thank you for drawing it 😭🥺💖🐇 my precious girls ✨
HI I'M SO SORRY. I read this ages ago and then just. Never responded. I have no idea why.
I totally agree that one of the things that makes Chronicles so fun is the way you only get a little of most of the trial-only characters, and yet there's so much there as a foundation to play around with! Olive is a great example of that! I love that you wrote about Nikomina and Graydon! I checked out the Nikomina one but still need to go through your Chrogray stories; I'm sure they're just as good a read :)
I really love it when people enjoy the minor or one-off characters. Nikomina really should get to know that Kazuma lived... that'd be a world of guilt off her shoulders, poor girl. It was an accident... I stick to my headcanon that Sholmes told her at some point.
I do agree that the second game kind of was a whirlwind. I imagined a lot of stuff was happening off-screen that we didn't see, especially with regards to the lingering grief concerning Kazuma. I do kind of wish we'd gotten a little less mystery over Yuujin and a little more just getting to be around the man and getting to know him. His story was just really impactful to me. I adore him so much.
I also have some mixed feelings regarding leaving Kazuma somewhat alone in London without his friends at the end of the game... while I don't really see how else it could've ended (it's more realistic; they can't stay in London forever; Kazuma was the one actually supposed to be on exchange), I can't help but feel concerned over him having very little support after a major breakdown/situation that exposed nearly all of his trauma, and still pretty much on that single-minded drive, just in a different, slightly healthier direction (so he can find himself/challenge Naruhodou). I'll be honest, it's now been awhile since I've played the game and I played it late at night so I don't actually recall the ending in detail - it's possible there's something I forgot about here that changes the context a little. I mean, at least we know Sholmes and Iris are going to look out for him...
Also I am a firm believer in post-canon Kazuma and Van Zieks worsties. They can't forgive each other, they begrudgingly understand each other, they can trust the other with pursuing justice, they are petty little shits to each other...
I also like the idea of Sholmes looking out for Kazuma in his own annoying way, and just coming across as... annoying, lol, while Iris keeps finding reasons to "mysteriously" cross paths with Van Zieks, so he cannot shake this weird, genius little pink child. The doors to the prosecutor's office open and the both of them just go "oh no", and then glare at each other because how dare they have the same thought at the same time ahjsbfvsjdfh
Anyways. They're funny to me. Part of me is happy where the story leaves off, and part of me wants a Kazuma Asougi Investigations game, with Van Zieks, Gina, Sholmes, and Iris. (...I actually came up with a rough outline for that very concept... it's a bit self-indulgent though and I have enough projects started... maybe I'll get to it someday... it's actually more like parallel Kazuma-Susato investigations lol)
Sorry again for this woefully delayed response... :/

Chapter 5 finale. what the fresh fuck. Back to bullet points because there's a lot to cover here!
LANZ. SENA. ARE WE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE SUICIDE PLOY. I never thought I'd be thankful for X to appear and yet here we are.
When Mio vanished at the Homecoming I was like "damn they actually killed her" and then when N "killed" Noah I was like "OH SHIT THEY'RE KILLING THEM?!"
When I heard the disembodied voice say "we only need three more months" my immediate first thought was that the party was going to reincarnate at the start of the game, they'd jack a Levnis and/or save Guernica, and we'd resume from there. Tying in to some previous thoughts I had about how the Consuls never really seemed to take the party seriously, making me wonder if all of this has happened before and the reason they aren't worried about the party freeing colonies and stuff is because they already know they'll be defeated
The flashback sequence in the cloudy area (Memory Space lite?) had me well and truly baffled for a while lmao
When Noah pulled out the sword of origin or whatever they're calling it out of the chest of the Ouroboros I literally shrieked "THAT'S A MONADO!!" because it totally is. Look me in the eyes and tell me that's not the exact shape of the Monado II
Also M's ploy with Mio has an extremely Meyneth and Fiora feel to it, at least to me
So Z. I feel like he's...probably not actually Zanza? I don't see how he could be, though I know that 2 already did some retconning to 1 so it's not unthinkable they could do more. But the fact that he's the "creator of this world" and his real name starts with a Z and the fact that Moebius feeds on human souls much like Zanza fed on the Homs as the Bionis makes me extremely suspicious

There's a lot of things I could say about all of the that that just happened but also there's a bunch of new sidequests that I want to do so instead I'll just say that seeing Eunie say "I'll never understand Moebius even if I live to one hundred" and knowing that the full High Entia lifespan is far longer than that is just...ow

I was writing up my thoughts on Xenoblade 3 as a whole when I realized that I'd written a mini-essay on why I like the ending and why letting the nations stay together from the start would've been narratively and emotionally unsatisfying. Instead of trying to cram that in with the rest of my thoughts on the game, I figured I'd make it its own post (since this is much more of a meta piece than the rest of my opinions). Spoilers below the cut for the ending!
3 is a heavily thematic game.  One of those themes is that even if the future is uncertain, it’s worth fighting for anyways.  Noah and the party make that choice, and there are two options for what the narrative can do from there: it can reward them narratively for fighting a fight with an uncertain outcome (making the right choice), or it won’t.  They make the right choice, but the narrative doesn’t reward them for it.  I hesitate to call the ending of 3 a “punishment” in any sense, but narratively it somewhat is.  They make the difficult choice to continue fighting against Z, the Moebius, and the endless now, and the consequence of that is that the worlds separate and they have to leave behind the friends they’ve made form opposite nations.  Why would the narrative punish them for making the right choice?
For a second, I’m going to take a tangent here.  In her Trope Talk on magical otherworlds, OSP Red discusses some of the pitfalls of escapist stories, one being that a “happy ending” in a portal fantasy where the hero is allowed to leave their boring life in the real world forever can actually depress the audience, because we will never get that same opportunity to literally leave the dissatisfying parts of our lives behind.  It’s the same principle here.  The narrative could have rewarded the party for making the right choice by giving them a no strings attached happy ending, but that’s not how real life works.  In real life, we also don’t know if the future we are moving towards will be better than what we’re living in right now.  But unlike in Xenoblade 3, we don’t have the option of grinding to max level and beating the superbosses before moving to the future–that is, we can’t live in the endless now.  In a constructed narrative, we expect heroes to be rewarded for their good deeds because that’s a convention of storytelling: good is rewarded, evil is punished.  Good people win, and bad people lose.  But real life doesn’t work like that, and I believe the impact of the ending on the audience would have been diminished significantly if the uncertain future the Ouroboros were fighting so hard for turned out to be unequivocally good.
The other main theme of the game is about grief, loss, and accepting those things into your life, which is another message the ending conveys supremely well.  Just because everything goes back to the moment the world stopped in the beginning doesn’t mean that anything that happened on Aionios doesn’t matter.  It all mattered!  Just because something ends doesn’t mean it doesn’t have meaning while it’s occurring.  That goes for lives, events, relationships, and even worlds.  Nothing in this world is permanent, not even the world itself, and to pretend that none of it matters because it doesn’t last–to say that nothing we did on Aionios meant anything just because it’s all been erased and it’s remembered by no one–is to say that the only things that do matter are those that last forever, and that is a road that leads to nothing but grief and regret.
And besides, the game is very clear that they’ll all meet again at some point in the future.  Even if Monosoft never elaborates or tells us about the reunion from on high, that does nothing to stop us all from imagining it and writing it ourselves–giving the characters a lifetime of joy, and giving ourselves a path to hope.

There's still nothing funnier to me than the victim of 3-1 being Doug Swallow, who died with a bottle of poisoned pills in his hand Died of poison? No, he was electrocuted, why would you think he was poisoned?

Van Zieks - the Examination, Part 1
Warnings: SPOILERS for The Great Ace Attorney: Chronicles. Additional warning for racist sentiments uttered by fictional characters (and screencaps to show these sentiments).
Disclaimer: These posts are not meant to be taken as fact. Everything I'm outlining stems from my own views and experiences. I am a 30-something European woman, and therefore may not view the matter from certain angles. That said, I'm always open to more input from others. If you believe that I've missed or misinterpreted something, please let me know so I can edit the post accordingly. If we can make this a team effort, I would love that.
The purpose of these posts is an analysis, nothing more. Please do not come into these posts expecting me to either defend Barok van Zieks from haters, nor expecting me to encourage the hatred. I am of the firm belief that characters are no more than a tool created to serve a narrative purpose, therefore the question I'm posing is whether or not Barok van Zieks serves this purpose. That's all I'm doing here.
I'm using the Western release of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for these posts, but may refer to the original Japanese dialogue of Dai Gyakuten Saiban if needed to compare what's said. This also means I’m using the localized names and localized romanization of the names to stay consistent.
It doesn't matter one bit to me whether you like Barok van Zieks or dislike him. He's not real anyway, so he can't suffer from it. However, I will ask that everyone who comments refrains from attacking real, actual people. If you know you're morally in the right, there should be no need for insults to begin with. Let's keep this conversation civil and constructive! As the first post in a series, let’s first start by examining the expectations we would have for a character like this. The purpose he was meant to serve.
1: Expectations
As I said in a different Barok-related essay, the main prosecutor of any Ace Attorney game has been, and always will be, an antagonistic force. Not a villain, not even necessarily someone who exhibits immoral traits. (Hi Klavier!) Just someone who impedes the protag’s goal of getting a not-guilty verdict. In order to have an effective antagonist, they need to mirror the protag's weaknesses back at them. Ace Attorney does this quite well, as the prosecutors represent the obstacle/turmoil that the defense needs to overcome. Often times, the prosecutor is also tied to a pivotal moment in the attorney's past, making sure the strife is quite personal.
Considering the game's plot and settings, it would've been difficult for Barok to be tied to Ryunosuke's past. (He is tied to Asogi's past, funnily enough, but that's a matter I also addressed in that other Barok essay.) So instead, Barok represents Ryunosuke's struggle in more of a figurehead capacity. I've seen people dub him the 'CEO of Racism', and I'm not gonna lie, in a way that's correct. Barok was designed to be the mouthpiece of the harmful sentiments Japanese exchange students would have encountered in the 1900s. By extension, since Ryunosuke is an exchange student unfamiliar with the British courts (or even courts in general), the prosecutor would target the fact that Ryunosuke 'does not understand how things are done here'. Which he does- a lot. This makes it all the more satisfying when Ryunosuke proves him wrong by outsmarting him and using Britain's own laws (such as the closing argument) against him. So yes, you may hate Barok for uttering racist sentiments and dismissing Ryunosuke's abilities, but the ultimate goal here is that Barok's defeat is made sweeter as a result. The narrative end-game is Ryunosuke's triumph and validation in the courtroom.
Was there a different personal struggle Barok could have represented? Yes, but also no. Sure, his vendetta could have been strictly with the Asogi family and Ryunosuke could have admitted to carrying Asogi's resolve, not knowing what it meant. Though that would’ve implied very early that Asogi had a history of sorts in Britain and would’ve destroyed some of the surprise we experience in game 2. Alternatively, there was also the 'parallel' antagonist angle. The sort of villain who says the line “we're not so different, you and I.” The antagonist who shows what happens when someone with the same skills or motivations follows the wrong path, which emphasizes the right path for the protagonist. However, I can't see that working in the plot of this game.
A purposeful decision was made by the writers to have prejudice be a central theme of the plot. This is the matter that hits the hardest in an emotional sense. Therefore, having Barok be the centerpiece of this prejudice ensures he leaves the biggest narrative impact.
---
However, another long-running aspect of the AA prosecutor is the redemption arc, so let's turn our attention to that!
I'm not going to put too much effort into explaining this, I just want to talk about the requirements of a redemption arc. We all know these types of arcs, a lot of Ace Attorney prosecutors have them. We see them in fiction all over. Noteworthy examples of redemption arcs done well include Zuko from The Last Airbender, Michael from The Good Place... For argument's sake, let's toss Edgeworth in there too. I'm not saying Edgeworth's arc is done well, but at the very least it is accepted by most as something that served its intended purpose. I've never seen anyone question Edgeworth's transformation.
See, what we have here is a bit of a misnomer when it comes to what people expect to get out of these types of arcs. Redemption in itself is only 'deliverance from sin' or 'being saved from evil'. It's the thought that a horrible person can still see the error of their ways before it's 'too late'. However, when it comes to absorbing media, often a character gaining knowledge that they were in the wrong isn't enough to satisfy the audience. Would Edgeworth have had a satisfying redemption arc if he'd acknowledged his arrogance and dirty tactics, only to retire as a prosecutor? No way. We needed him to return in the following games to give us an update on his status. Standing in court as a defense attorney, at the risk of damaging his reputation, was the moment we knew he'd grown for the better.
What we require for the arc to come to a good conclusion is atonement. The character in question must not only apologize for their actions, but repent in a more active manner to show that they've changed their ways. Following that, the atonement must be acknowledged by others. So for example, Zuko joins the ATLA gang to help them in any way that he can until even the most skeptical of the group, Katara, acknowledges his transformation into a better person. Now add to this the notion that the character's atonement must be virtuous and sincere. The Good Place is a fascinating look into the debate of 'is it ever too late for a person to change?' and the moral complications of changing in the first place. If you're only doing good things because you want to be saved from damnation, are you being a good person or are you being selfish? There's such a thing as corrupt motivation; only doing good because it is expected. For example, does sponsoring a library make Magnus McGilded a good person? It does not, since he's only doing it to boost his own reputation and have people believe he's selfless.
As a final note, I want to ask: Does a redemption arc require a backstory to justify the character's immoral ways? Personally, I don't think that it does. It's good to have, since it allows an audience to empathize with the character and give them more of a reason to root for them. It turns the redemption arc into a tale about overcoming past trauma. However, it can backfire when done badly and lead to frustration. (I'm looking at you, live action Disney movies!) Some characters are evil just for the sake of being evil and even then, they can turn over a new leaf because they realize it is just so much more rewarding to be good. Just look at Michael from The Good Place.
What's more effective than a backstory, in my opinion, is smaller details to humanize a character. Humanization can also lead to empathy, perhaps even relatability, and helps us believe that they're capable of change. We need to be told that a character has their own fears, their own flaws, their own odd little habits which deviate from the norm... Again, I'll point to Michael from The Good Place for this. Another humanization tactic, which we see employed often in Ace Attorney, is to display a prosecutor's likes and hobbies outside the courtroom. Edgeworth's fanboying over the Steel Samurai, Blackquill's love for birds, Nahyuta's willingness to stand in line for hours to get his hands on a delicious burger... I've feel ya, Nahyuta. This tactic is more readily employed in Ace Attorney because it's difficult to place a prosecutor in a position of weakness before the final showdown. You can show them tending to hobbies during Investigation segments, but you can't show them waking up from a nightmare or wondering whether their father loves them. Well, not until case 5 of that game, anyway. By then, it's too late to serve as the sole humanization factor. Did Van Zieks need to be redeemed at all? The way I see it, the only correct answer is yes. What do we want to see in our world? Do we want people who hold racist prejudice to acknowledge their faults and become better, or do we want them to die clinging to their shitty moral compass? Do we want a world where everyone learns to get along, or do we want a world where people continue to be in the wrong and act like assholes until they inevitably get punished by law for something or another? Van Zieks needed to be redeemed in order to teach that valuable lesson that it’s never too late to be a good person and that it pays to be a good person.
So to summarize, what we needed from Barok van Zieks was the following:
1) Present an antagonistic (possibly immoral) force who personifies Ryunosuke's biggest personal obstacle/weakness, in this case racial prejudice. 2) Humanizing traits begin to show. OPTIONAL: A backstory to justify any immorality he has. 3) Over time, Barok has his realization and sees the error of his ways. 4) Barok atones for his immorality, not simply through apology but by taking decisive steps. 5) The cast around him acknowledges his efforts and forgives him.
This leaves us with the question: Does the game deliver on these points? Well, let's boot it up and find out! Stay tuned for The Adventure of the Runaway Room! (as a warning, it’s gonna be LONG)

Dear Asexual-Deesasters,
Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
If you want to know the answer to that question, go to this link.
Tumblr media
Dear Skibot99,
Co-Mod: I’m fairly certain it was The Mod, but I don’t know for sure.  He actually had another one before it, made from an old Ace Attorney musical animation.  I haven’t been able to locate that video, unfortunately, but here’s the old banner:
Tumblr media
Ah...  Those were good days.  Good days.
Tumblr media
Dear Dawsongfg,
Co-Mod: It’s fine.  Besides, it won’t be too long before those letters are accepted, so maybe we’ll hold onto them until that time.
Tumblr media
Dear skibot99 again,
Mod Edgeworth: The Lost Turnabout hands down. All logic is thrown out the window the moment Phoenix had amnesia. It’s clear the Judge knew something was wrong with Phoenix, so why didn’t he call for a recess or check on Phoenix? Not to mention Wellington was annoying. He’s probably the only character I would be hesitant to play as when answering letters, if only because he was so unbearable.
Tumblr media
As for Turnabout Ablaze, I do agree that it is a drag to get through in the end, though the entire game of AAI was boring, aside from the game mechanics. As a case by itself, I wouldn’t put it as my least favorite, if only because I did get some funny parts out of it.  It also contributed to the overall story, whereas The Lost Turnabout could just be taken out and it wouldn’t effect the overarching plot.
Co-Mod: I’d probably have to go with Turnabout Big Top.  I honestly couldn’t figure out the part where you have to present Max’s poster without consulting a walkthrough.  Why couldn’t we just present Max himself?  Besides that, the ending was largely underwhelming -- the murder weapon was hidden under Acro’s blanket the entire time, but instead of seeing a screenshot of it there, we just have to imagine it.  Maybe it was a filler case, but that was no excuse for it to end so poorly.  Not to mention one of the witnesses was a literal puppet.
Tumblr media
It’s hard truth, Trilo.  Live with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear skibot99 and Anonymous,
Mod Edgeworth: I… think I heard from her when the localization of DGS was announced? I know Mod Kristoph and Mod Maya introduced themselves when I came into the group. There’s a third person, but I only heard from her once. As for what’s going on with her… I don’t know.
As for the flooding the inbox, it’s fine. I won’t promise a letter or two won’t be deleted, but we may make an exception and I’d hardly consider 4-5 different letters flooding the inbox. However, I do highly suggest lowering your letter sending to no more than three a day to prevent deletion of your letters. The only time I’d say your letters are flooding the inbox is when you’re sending 10-20 of them, especially of the same letter, and we have to scroll down for a while to get to the next letter. We will only choose three out of that pile and delete the rest.
Tumblr media
And yes, we do have a few that send us 10-20 of the same letter to multiple characters in the span of five minutes. Geez.
Co-Mod: Mod Paups has had to remain absent for personal reasons, and sadly, has recently communicated to me that she wishes to leave the blog entirely.  Thanks for all you’ve contributed to this blog, Mod Paups, and best of luck in whatever you do next!
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear mungeondaster,
Mod Edgeworth: Since I answered this one, I shall answer your letter.
Tumblr media
(^ Why do I always use this sprite? ^) Actually, the localization never specified if Manfred Von Karma was born in Germany or not. In fact, we never knew the German part until Justice For All when Franziska Von Karma was stated to have flown all the way from Germany. It never specifies any reason for this and fans were quick to jump to the conclusion that it means the Von Karma family were German, which… isn’t entirely true? Manfred Von Karma never said he lived in Germany and, for all we know, Franziska could’ve lived in Germany to study law or something.
Now, the OG does give us more specific detail on this, being why I answered this the way I did. In the OG, both Von Karma’s were born Japanese, but lived in America or at least have an estate there. It specified that they were originally born in Japan, which would be translated to LA, California in the localization. While using the OG canon isn’t normal here, I will use it, if the localization doesn’t specify things. In this case, it never specified if the Von Karma’s were born in Germany or if Manfred Von Karma lived in America. Since he had to wait out the Statue of Limitations for DL-6, we can assume he lived in LA for 15 years or more. That means he’s American.
Tumblr media
I am still getting the hang of writing letters, but I try to stick to canon as much as possible. If you believe we’ve made an error in our letters, feel free to let us know, but also show proof, if we go against canon. We’ll be sure the letter is sent to the right mod or else fix it.
Tumblr media
Dear  Bluedragoncody,
Mod Edgeworth: I... don’t know how to feel about that.
Also, I accidentally deleted your previous letter before this one when trying to post it on here. I’m so sorry about that. If you could remember it, would you send it again?
Co-Mod: I’ll just respond to this with an old classic:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear Aceattorneyismyjam,
Mod Edgeworth: I-I’m not a pro! I accidentally deleted an important mod question from bluedragoncody, because of my inexperience. Oof! Again, so sorry!
Tumblr media
Granted, I am good with digital art and writing essays, but I’m still trying to get the hang of being a mod here. Believe me, I do get corrected on several mistakes I do here. I can’t really call myself a pro just yet. I’ve only just started becoming a mod here last month lol
Tumblr media
Dear Dahlia,
Mod Edgeworth: I thank you for your support of this blog and my essay. Manfred Von Karma is also my favorite villain and someone I do feel is underestimated as a one dimensional villain. I think people hate him so much, because of how he ruined Miles Edgeworth’s life without looking at the bigger picture. They focus on the bad things with their black colored glasses without dissecting Manfred Von Karma’s character as a whole.
Tumblr media
One thing I love about this blog, even before becoming a mod, is that no one here ever portrayed Manfred Von Karma as the one dimensional villain. He can be snappy at times, but as proven in many of our previous letters, he’s also portrayed as being calm when threatened, polite at times and absolutely loves his wife and children. Yes, he’s a terrible person, but that’s what makes him so interesting. He’s a bad, evil person that does good things from time to time. It doesn’t justify any of his horrible deeds, murder included, but it does make him human.
Co-Mod: I’m...going to assume you’re a different Dahlia.  (I’m grabbing a Magatama of Parting just in case, though.  I’m sure you can understand.)
Anyway, thanks for being such a loyal follower!  This blog’s been through a lot of changes since it began, and since I joined it back in 2017, so I’m glad it’s still a good source of enjoyment for you.  I’ve seen all sorts of cringe by now, by the way (some of which I wrote myself), so don’t worry about it.
I’m also glad that the characters still sound like themselves and not like us.  The hilarious personalities and quirks given to them by Capcom’s writers, as well as the humanity in so many of them, make them easy to relate to, and thus fairly easy to mimic.  I may have said something like this before, but I see myself in a lot of them -- in Athena’s fear of inadequacy, in Apollo’s desire for justice in a world where it’s hard to find, in Sebastian’s confusion about where to go next after his world falls apart, and possibly even in the von Karmas’ desire for perfection.  I of course identify with their positive feelings as well -- Phoenix’s smugness when he gets things right, Athena’s joy after pulling off a victory in court, Adrian’s pride after her self-confidence is restored, etc. -- but there’s something about the struggles they face that make them easier to relate to, on top of being that much more awesome in the end.
Unfortunately, I can’t promise anything about this blog continuing on in perpetuity.  For one thing, I don’t plan on being around forever (I’m fairly certain the other Mods don’t, either), and for that matter, there’s also no telling how long Tumblr will be around.  All I can promise is that I’ll give my best while I’m here, and that the love from you and everyone else who shares it here is sure to be what keeps us going.  Thank you for your contribution!
Tumblr media
Dear TurqouiseJavelin,
Mod Edgeworth: Hm... not bad ideas. Though, we mods choose our own mod names under the condition that it doesn’t match anyone else’s mod name.
Co-Mod: What Mod Edgeworth said.  Choosing the name “Mod Athena” may or may not increase your chances of being hired, though.  *wink, wink*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Mod Edgeworth: Actually, Gregory was stated in the Autopsy to have died by a gunshot. However, you do bring up something interesting. If Gregory Edgeworth realized he was dead and last remembered Robert Hammond strangling him, he wouldn’t think “I died by the shot of a gun.” Since the Detectives weren’t aware that victim had died unconscious, they’d assume the victim would recall being shot and killed. This makes me wonder if Gregory Edgeworth was channeled, but never brought to court to be cross-examined.
There are still holes, but I do like your aspect on DL-6.
Co-Mod: Dang...  No matter how many times you come back to this game, there’s always something new to think about.  I honestly hadn’t considered those details about Yanni Yogi’s trial.  Your explanation makes the most sense to me, but there’s one other possibility regarding Gregory’s testimony -- he may have chosen to lie about who murdered him in order to protect his son from a murder charge.  That’s all open to interpretation, of course, so your guess is as good as ours.
It’s a good thing we’re not actual defense attorneys, huh?

Serious question: What made you interested in studying law?
warning! may get #deep and #personal here. who knows? it's late and i'm feeling talkative
tldr: ace attorney and legally blonde
okay now that i’ve finished writing it all i realised i’ve practically written an essay so i’ll just... chuck it all under the cut instead teehee
i will be completely honest with you, i never expected myself to be doing law. it always felt like one of those things that felt unreachable. you need an insanely high ATAR (the rank that decides what you can do at uni straight out of high school) to get into it and it just felt... like a lost cause.
i've always had an interest in it tbh. i joke about ace attorney and legally blonde being my main motivators but i promise i do have a genuine interest in it myself. i’m REALLY passionate about helping people so they don’t get fucked over by the law, because honestly... the legal system is definitely not perfect. every country has its flaws and i know australia could be much worse, but it could also be much better. incarceration rates for indigenous australians are extremely disproportionate for one, and i could go on about other issues but who knows how long this post would be hey?
but yeah, i did a subject called legal studies in high school and that helped me realise that ‘hey... i guess i really am interested in this.’ but i still didn’t think i could do it. PLUS i had such a big plan to be an english/history teacher so law never crossed my mind. but then i had to study jane austen in english and started hating the subject (sorry jane) that i began looking at other options. i ended up settling on media because hey! i could see myself working in a field like that (i also have a big interest in film)
so when we were putting in our options for uni courses i put in media but then i saw that there was a double degree in media and law. the atar was insanely high like 97.0 (so you’d have to be like... in the top 3% of the state jfc) BUT since we had five possible options i said “fuck it why not” and just chucked it into the bottom for shits and giggles.
i didn’t get an atar of 97 lmao BUT i did put in a lot of applications for scholarships and consideration schemes because i went to a dodge public school and i’m not exactly rich. turns out one of those schemes would let me do that double degree if i got a certain, WAY more achievable atar. so ofc i took it and i won’t lie... taking law was kinda an impulsive decision.
WEIRDLY ENOUGH THOUGH, i turned out to like law a lot more than i liked media so now i’m thinking of doing just straight law and taking something else like international studies with it. funny how things turn out huh?

This is gonna be a long post, and since tumblr sucks and won't let me put a read more, you have my condolences
Ah yes, this is a long time coming. Not a long time coming in the sense that I will murder the person who murdered my past life's fiancee, no, we're not talking about Fallout today. Today, friends, family, and assorted acquaintances, we're talking about the Random Encounters Phoenix Wright the Musical... musical.
Now why, you may be asking, am I doing this? Why in the world am I writing such a long, unneeded essay on a musical that's like, 5 years old? Well, dear reader, that's a simple question, with a simple answer. And that is that I really just want the person who played Edgeworth to be recognized. What a sweetheart. Superb singing, and the bloopers are great. That's it. That's why. I really want people to watch it after they read this, with flaws in mind, and just enjoy the talents that went into it. So, let us begin.
So if you aren't super fans of Random Encounters (RE for short), they make musicals for games. Very good ones in fact. I really enjoyed "Finding Mister Midnight" And all of the undertale ones. And Phoenix Wright, obviously. I haven't watched their recent stuff (I don't really watch the musicals of games I don't already know or like, aside from Phoenix Wright (yes the musical got me into Phoenix Wright)) but I just might see what they've done because I always enjoy the bloopers and such.
Now
Phoenix Wright the Musical (no relation to Turnabout Musical)
What a superb, fantastic, blessing that is absolute garbage (in the nicest way possible). Like literally, let's dive into this
Flaws
Larry is the victim. God I wish he would die, but he won't. Cry about spoilers all you want, this musical is 30 mins, Larry isn't actually dead.
"My Best friend of several years is dead? Welp... That sucks"
Edgeworth openly admits he's "an amenable prosecutor", which he would never give Phoenix the satisfaction of knowing if it were true. I get that that's KiNdA how miles is, but he's still a stubborn bastard at the bench
Maya in the games does have quips and jokes, but honestly the judge would have threatened contempt of court if she kept talking like she did in the musical
Gumshoe isn't a very aggressively nice and loud person in the musical, it's more like a younger version of him I suppose
I can't tell what ages they are supposed to be. Say it's after Dual Destinies, the last game that came out before this musical, Phoenix just got his badge back and has a daughter... Except no because his suit is more the one before Apollo Justice and they never mention trucy. Aight, Trials and Tribulations era. But wait, didn't Edgeworth already say in that game "this is my first and last trial as a defense attorney "? No way he'd do it again so close. Plus, you know, other things (such as time and place) that will make this point too long.
Speaking of Defense attorney Edgeworth, they really just... Let that slide didn't they... Game Miles did all that work just for it to turn out that he didn't even need to.
Larry is alive
"When the night guards found the body," They apparently didn't bother to check if it was a real person oh, I dunno a blue freaking badger-
Who... Let "Doctor Hotti" Look at the body for the autopsy. It's funny but... How did this happen. Franziska shoulda whipped him
I understand that this musical is suppose to be welcoming to newcomers. But... "Everybody got trauma" Is something people should know! Don't mention DL-6, or Gant, Manfred, Morgan, Kristoph, Yanni Yogi. That's not what I mean... Just... Man, Edgeworth is a mess! Phoenix is a mess! Let them be a mess!
Maya was allowed to assist in the investigation, when she's the suspect... Ok?
And many more...
Now you're waiting for me to defend it and tell you it's strengths. But unfortunately... That is exactly what I'm gonna do!
Strengths
Every actor is a great singer. A special shoutout to Edgeworth and Franziska's actors 👏🏻👏🏻
The story was easy to follow and engaging enough to make me watch an entire play through of all the games (specifically I watched Nicob)
Almost every actor was perfect for their role and really sold it, may I once again point out miles and franziska, as well as Payne this time? Everyone did a lovely job
The twist was something that had never been done in aa to my knowledge. Though it might have been funny if Rise from the Ashes ended like that instead.
I criticized Miles being a defense attorney for an hour but I enjoyed miles and Maya interacting. Like yes miles, protect your basically daughter.
I can pinpoint the exact moment I became a narumistu shipper to the end of the musical, where Edgeworth and Phoenix were discussing the case, and Edgeworth said "Wright, a defense attorney does not sleep in his office". This line isn't romantic, but I remember 13 year old me whispering "what a good boyfriend"
Larry is likeable. You think I'm joking? I had high Expectations for Larry after watching this musical. Game 1 delivered, the rest did not. He is actually a good character in this musical.
I rewatched this musical for this post, but I didn't even need to, I could quote this musical like the back of my hand. It doesn't help that the lines are so quotable. "better the devil you know, Wright" And "it's half past shut your face and leave me alone! ...Pacific daylight time" Are personal favourites.
Grape juice
They had gumshoe. I miss you gumshoe. Come back to the newer games
The music is a blessing. "Wright is Wrong" And "The Loser Song" Are personal favourites, but I could jam to any of them (even oldbags sleazy jazz number)
And many more!
Look, it's not perfect. It's not anywhere close, especially if you are a fan of ace attorney. But it's a darn good watch if you have half an hour to kill, or just wanna hear some damn good singing.
Also, listen, John I think your name is? Person who played Edgeworth. Honestly pls sing more man, or audition for an Edgeworth part of a dub, pls man I'm begging you you're amazing.

Hiatus Note and the Topic of My Next Post
Been busy with essays in school, sorry, my followers. But the quality of my original posts will still be maintained, so don't worry. And the AMA is still open, so feel free to ask me anything and I hope this can make up for my hiatus. (I mean, literally anything. I really need to get in touch with my followers or potential followers. Be it whatever you are interested in, a Q&A, a piece of advice.etc. Or you can just point out what you like about my writing and how can I improve. Man, I come here to learn and have fun just like all of you do. This account's existence is not meant to show off my massive knowledge on some obscure topic, otherwise I would be ghostwriting for Last Week Tonight).
Recent incidents give me an inspiration and now I kinda want to write about manipulation tactics (and how to call them out in social situations)...?
After I found out that some of my fellow tumblers has been subjected to psychological abuse (It is covert and subtle that they didn't even realize that they are being abused, instead, they even felt bad about themselves thanks to the manipulator's artfulness and their obliviousness to such situations), I kinda want to raise awareness on this issue and encourage the victims to recognize them and leave.
(Or it's just because my impulses and ability to control and manipulate conflicted with my moral beliefs to never hurt unrelated parties, I unconsciously decided to use sublimation with an altruistic motive and a socially acceptable outlet by blogging on tumblr with 5 followers)
Anyway, So my next post will be about that, and I will continue to give examples in ace attorney settings (since my current followers are hardcore fans of the merchandise...) or in real life (if you don't want any spoilers)

Learning to Breathe by youcomecrash (111k)
He’s playing football at one of the top universities in England and he should love everything about his life right now, but instead he’s moving backwards. How does your past fit into your present? Louis is still figuring it out.
led by your beating heart by missandrogyny (29k)
Nick leans over. "Oh," he says, his voice smug. "Who is that?"
Harry just blinks at his phone. "Um," he manages to stammer out.
"Who's that, Harry?" Nick asks again, but this time he raises his eyebrows and smirks. Harry knows Nick is just teasing, and that he's not really looking for new Harry Styles gossip, but, um. He might have found something. Accidentally.
Harry opens his mouth to speak, but all that comes out is another 'um'. He really needs to work on translating his thoughts into words. But then it probably wouldn't be any helpful right now, would it? His mind is as blank as a newly erased etch-a-sketch.
"Oh," Nick says again, this time gleefully, seemingly having picked up on Harry's distress. "Looks like we've got a story here! Are you going to call or delete her number?"
Her number. So Nick thinks it's a girl. Well, Harry can't blame him: 'Lou' is kind of an androgynous nickname. His stylist's name is Lou.
But this Lou, well, Louis, he's kind of, really, really not a girl. He's really pretty though, which, is something.
(Or: AU where Harry's in One Direction, Louis isn't, and they reconnect over a game of 'Call or Delete'.)
Lego House by danceinstylinson (144k)
Louis Tomlinson was just about at the end of his rope, caught up in the mess he’d created for himself, stranded at the center of a maze. Harry Styles was doing just fine the way thing were. He worked at night and slept through the day. He made enough money to just get by. Everything was fine. But one night seemed to change everything. Coming from very opposite sides of town, the two boys meet. One saves the other in more ways than one, and though neither expect a future extended past sunrise, fate seems to have other plans….
lightning before the thunder by delsicle (29k)
Harry came from one of the most powerful lines of fire mages in the country. He was supposed to be a natural at magic, a prodigy, even.
But instead he was in the X-Factor contestant house kitchen at two in the morning, wearing only his pants, and he had just set the stove on fire while making snacks for his bandmates and the boy he was in love with.
like an animal (i wanna feel you from the inside) by bottomlinsons (grimgrace) (4k)
Louis leans a little closer. It’s not difficult – not with the way he’s already pressed so close, straddling Harry’s hard hips with Harry’s equally hard dick nestled tightly between his cheeks.
The paramedic clears his throat and looks away.
(Harry and Louis get a little stuck. Literally.)
Like an Endless Summer by objectlesson (87k)
“You just wanna go fawn over Styles as soon as possible,” Zayn grumbles.
“I do not. Plus, he probably got ugly this year. Eighteen is an awkward time…I bet he’s got acne and one of those terrible fuckboy haircuts all the hipsters are getting these days, with the shaved sides? Just watch, the first year we’re gonna get any time together is gonna be the first year I don’t have a stupid crush on him.”
Or, Louis is a riding instructor at a summer camp, and Harry is a fellow counselor who he’s been successfully managing his crush on for the last two summers. That is, until Harry shows up this year leveled up and lethal, and all Louis’s formerly perfected veneer of nonchalance melts like a popsicle in the sun.
Like Candy In My Veins by littlelouishiccups (32k)
“Um…” Harry said slowly after a moment. “Okay. That’s… this is… Let me get this straight.” He lifted up a hand and swallowed. “You told your family that you have a boyfriend… and my name was the first one you thought of?”
“Harry Potter was on TV, alright? It wasn’t that much of a stretch.” Louis pinched the bridge of his nose. He couldn’t believe he was explaining himself to Harry fucking Styles. He couldn’t believe he was stooping this low. “Forget it. I’m sorry I even thought about bringing you into this.”
Harry snorted. “What? Did you want me to pretend to be your boyfriend or something?” (Basically the A/B/O, enemies to lovers, fake relationship, Christmas AU that nobody asked for.)
like how your hands feel me up and down by ballsdeepinjesus (8k)
“How do I look?” Harry asks lowly. He turns around and gestures towards the unzipped back of his skirt for him to help. Louis stumbles forward and places a cold hand on the exposed side of Harry’s stomach, steadying him while he pulls the zipper up the rest of the way. He pushes Harry back into the dressing room and stands behind him in front of the mirror. “It’s -- you’re tight,” Louis chokes. “It’s tight, I mean. It’s. Yes.” His hand is curved around his hip now, squeezing lightly.
“Tight’s good, right?” Harry murmurs, batting his eyelashes. He almost can’t believe himself.
“Very good,” Louis grunts.
[louis works in a halloween shop and harry needs a costume]
Like to Keep You Laughing by kikikryslee (13k)
Louis gasped. “Are you straight? Oh, I'm sorry, man. You should’ve just told me; I would’ve left you alone.” “No, no, that’s not it," Harry said. "I like guys. I definitely like guys.” “OK…” “Louis, I’m ace.” Louis snorted. “Kind of full of yourself, aren’t you?” --- Or, the one where Louis is a frat boy who likes to hook up and Harry is someone who doesn't hook up ever.
Little White Lies by xxSterre (13k)
"I lied when I got my job.
I told them I had a kid so I could leave early 'to pick him up from day care', to take him to doctors appointments and occasionally miss a day 'when he's sick'. Long story short – I'm in too deep. I didn't think this through.
Looking to rent a kid for bring your child to work day. Must be a boy aged 4 to 6 with curly hair who plays soccer, essentially he has to look like the stock photo in the frame on my desk. Also must be artistic as the macaroni noodle drawings I made seem a little advanced for someone his age. He also needs to respond to 'my Little Picasso' as that's what my spouse and I call him. Also I will pay extra for someone willing to play the role of my spouse when dropping him off. His name is James, he's named after his grandpa and he's a defense attorney who often brings his work home.
You know what, just message me for the details, serious inquiries only. H."
Or, the AU based off of that one Craigslist post - how a little white lie takes on an enormous snowball effect, that might accidentally include a Tomlinson too.

little wings on my shoes by juliusschmidt (39k)
You have C Lunch?” Louis asks, peering over at Harry's work. The problem Harry’s just finished is printed neatly, the correct answer circled. Harry’s finger marks the next problem in his book as he copies it onto the page. It doesn’t look like he’s stealing the answers out of the back. Nice.
He’s dimpled and smart.
And probably gay.

Lonely King by Lustforfrosting (40k)
When Louis' parents pass away in a car accident, he inherits a cottage in the woods of Scotland. He ends up spending the summer there; unraveling secrets, mending bonds and creating memories with his best friends.
Lost in You by loviedovielou (16k)
Harry is nineteen and thinks kissing is weird. This is his first problem, but certainly not his last.
love is a word (you gave it a name) by hattalove (21k)
“It’s worth it anyway,” says Harry, looking into Louis’s eyes. He’s untucked his hair from behind his ear, and it falls down in silky strands to obscure his face. He looks so painfully young, even after everything. Louis’s strong, strong boy. “Just for the two of us. We get to be selfish for a little while.”
it's christmas. in between snowman building, tree shopping, and ill-advised skating on a frozen lake, louis and harry get ready to take the most important step of their lives.
love with every stranger, the stranger the better by leighbot (9k)
He looks over the books in front of him and then- past them- to his laptop charging on his desk, taunting him about the two essays he’s got to start on in order to finish them both on time.
He definitely doesn’t have time for a party.
Or, the one where Niall drags Louis to a campus fancy dress party and Louis channels his inner Green Lantern to approach the lad he's been crushing on all year.
Love’s Truest Language by summerwine (48k)
The first part was meant as a joke. He didn’t really expect Harry to buy anything. It was just Louis’ way of softening the ‘get the fuck out’ blow.
“Where’s your order forms, then?”
“I don’t want your flowers.” Louis chided before directing all of his attention to the arrangement in front of him.
Harry laughed under his breath as he stood to his full height, “Who said anything about them being for you, love?”
Loving You Is Free by littlelouishiccups (68k)
Louis is a workaholic record label CEO who hasn't been on a date in nearly a year. Niall and Liam make an account for him on a sugar dating website as a joke. And then Louis meets Harry.

i do kinda want to be a lawyer but i guess my true dream job is being an author. but just saying it is really like unreal because i don’t have that much confidence in writing and my passions wax and wane really easily and im just a mess as you can probably see
DREAM TRIP: i’d love to visit everywhere tbh but top destinations are japan, germany, and the netherlands (though i do dream of living in the netherlands rather than just visiting)

@fiircbird I told you I’d do it. I changed some of the roles we discussed to make it fit characters better. Also any song titles labeled with * are subject to change depending on the content. I will rewrite the songs...tomorrow. lmao.
Phoenix Wright has everything going for him: Born into a wealthy upper-class family in Los Angeles, he was given plenty of opportunities to succeed in life. Presently, he is a double Art & Theatre Major, President of the prestigious Alpha Pi fraternity, and dating the love of his life -- Dahlia "Dollie" Hawthorne.
ACT 1
Our story begins with some of Phoenix's fraternity brothers, Larry, Ronnie, and Wocky excitedly discussing their President's plan to propose to Dahlia ("Oh my god you guys"). They go to surprise him with good luck booze, only to find his room empty. Larry then recalls that Phoenix was getting a tailored suit for the occasion, and the three rush over to go and support him.
The scene cuts to Phoenix in a dressing room, still unsure about the suit. As he contemplates, Larry and the others show up and they go on about their excitement.
Off to the side, a sales associate Frank Sawhit muses to himself that rich boys are stupid and attempts to make a quick commission charge. Phoenix, however, proves he isn't as gullible as he may look. Another associate rushes in and takes over, apologizing and offering him the perfect blue suit instead. Armed with this, Phoenix feels confident enough to pop the question to Dahlia tonight.
Dahlia arrives at his fraternity house later that evening, and with his brothers giving him encouraging gestures, he whisks her away to a romantic restaurant. There, Dahlia starts talking about the future ("Serious") and Phoenix gets himself hyped up to get out the ring. Before he can, however, she says they should break up. He tries to get her to change her mind, even bringing out the ring -- but that only makes her leave immediately.
Phoenix is devastated and sulks for days, and his brothers and other friends attempt to console him ("Hey Ace Of Alpha Pi"). They finally get him out of his room and into the main room, where they have some girls over (including Mia, Maya, and Ema). They hang for a bit and Phoenix seems to be doing well until a show comes on interviewing Diego Armando, a famous lawyer known for both his charm and skill in the courtroom. Seeing how the reporter fawns over him, Phoenix has an epiphany: Become an attractive, successful lawyer to win Dahlia back ("What You Want)!
With guidance from Mia and a lot of hard work, Phoenix forksakes his senior spring break and studies enough to pass the LSAT with qualifying scores to get into Harvard Law. Instead of writing a personal essay, he leads a bunch of his friends into a musical performance into the Harvard admission offices to inspire the department (consisting of its lead, Grossberg, and two aides Penny and Richard Wellington) into accepting him. Eventually, they do, once he reveals he is motivated by love.
Phoenix arrives on campus, clueless but optimistic as he tries to find Dahlia. His classmates (including Edgeworth) brag about their accomplishments and refuse to help him as he seems out of place, but he manages to get help from Lenora, the law teaching assistant ("The Harvard Variations"). While heading to class, he bumps briefly into Dahlia, who's shocked to see him there. Later, they end up in the class of the infamous Kristoph, whom Lenora consequently aides for ("Blood In The Water"). Kristoph kicks Phoenix out at the suggestion of Matt, a classmate who turns out to be Dahlia's new boyfriend. This tragedy summons the images of Larry, Mia, and Maya -- his three closest friends -- to act as his inner 'Greek Chorus'. They tell Phoenix to persist against this new development ("Positive"), but he can't seem to get over it. He decides to go to the local bar, the Borscht Bowl Club, to drown his sorrows and figure out what to do.
While there, Phoenix spills his heart to Gumshoe, the ex-cop-turned-bartender who tries to give him some encouragement. He tells about this dream he's always had about Ireland and how what he thought was the love of his life turned out to be a huge mistake ("Ireland*"). But if he could get through that, why can't he? While they're chatting, Matt walks in with a few of his friends and heads over to the pool table. He sees Phoenix and, in an attempt to smooth things over, invites him to a pool party happening this weekend. Phoenix accepts, eager to get another chance to talk to Dahlia, and runs off knowing exactly what to do. Gumshoe affirms that he'll be all right ("Ireland (Reprise)*").
Phoenix arrives at the party the next night, only to see that he had been lied to -- it isn't a pool party at all, but  a classy get-together. He's humiliated for a moment as everyone looks at him like he's an idiot, but then he totally owns it and goes up to Dahlia. She humors him for a minute before dismissing him again ("Serious (Reprise)") and he leaves the party, dejected.
Lenora finds him looking sad in a speedo on a park bench and cannot help but inquire what happened, and he explains. Despite this, she can't really sympathize with him, explaining her own circumstances ("Chip On Your Shoulder"). Still, she agrees to help Phoenix study and get back on track and the two of them develop a friendship over time and gets him to realize that his desire to please Dahlia is what's getting in his way. After impressing Kristoph, he submits his application for the prestigious internship everyone is fighting for. Later, Phoenix and Lenora help Gumshoe get his dog Missile back from his ex-girlfriend, April May. Seeing their work pay off gets him even more excited about what he's studying! They chat more on their way back to campus, only to stop when they realize a group of classmates is crowding around Kristoph's office door.
Edgeworth is already walking away from the board, sounding excited and pleased with himself, telling whoever is on the other line that he received the internship. Lenora wonders why Kristoph posted it early -- and Phoenix runs to go check for his own name. He stops, however, upon hearing Dahlia and Matt celebrate they both earned the internship, too. In a spontaneous burst of excitement, Matt proposes to Dahlia. She's shocked, but seeing Phoenix there snaps her out of it -- and she accepts. Phoenix goes back to sulking, devastated again -- until Lenora points out his name's on the internship list, too. ("So Much Better").
ACT 2
Max Galactica is a famous magician known for his stunning performances ("Whipped Into Shape"*/). Kristoph reviews a video of Max's latest filmed performance with his team -- Lenora, Phoenix, Dahlia, Matt, and Edgeworth -- and presents him as their defendant, who unfortunately has been accused of killing his wife, Regina Berry. Sadly, he refuses to provide an alibi as to his whereabouts on the day of the murder. Nobody can get the alibi out of Max, up until he speaks privately with Phoenix, who recognizes him as a previous ALPHA PI brother. Max explains he was getting liposuction the day of the murder, but is terrified his fans will hate him as a result. Because of Phoenix's loyalty to his client and refusal to state the alibi, he and Lenora are shunned by the group. To cheer Lenora up, and to increase her chances of impressing Kristoph, Phoenix takes her to the mall to get a proper makeover ("Take It Like A Man").
Back at the Borsct Bowl, Phoenix is chatting with Gumshoe when a cute night security guard, Maggey, walks in briefly -- and then walks out, realizing she has the wrong place. Apparently she does this a lot. Gumshoe pines for her, but doesn't think he can get her attention. Together with the help of the Greek Chorus -- specifically Larry -- , Phoenix teaches him a surefire flirting technique that works on all straight women! Sadly, in the process of attempting the move, Gumshoe knocks Maggey out ("Bend and Snap"*).
In the courtroom we see Adrian Andrews, a witness who has allegedly had an affair with Max while working as the maid in his home. Max denies this vehemently. Phoenix gets a hunch that Adrian is gay, seeing as how she remains unaffected by his infamous smouldering look, but the group debates whether this is a legitimate line of questioning or not ("There! Right There!"). Eventually, Lenora gets her to crack by causing her to slip and mention she has a girlfriend -- Franziska, who is present in the courtroom at the time. Adrian takes it all back and the ladies leave together.
Later that night, the group celebrates their victory. Kristoph takes Phoenix aside and attempts to make a move on him, which he refuses -- and, upon doing so, he is fired. Edgeworth witnesses all of this from outside. A defeated Phoenix prepares to go home, even though Lenora asks him to stay, finally realizing that she is in love with him ("Legally Blonde*").
Phoenix drops by the Borscht Bowl to say goodbye to Gumshoe, but is stopped by Edgeworth, who convinces him otherwise. Edgeworth admits that although he found him obnoxious at first, Phoenix has proven himself worth to be a lawyer -- which rejuvenates his desire to return to the courtroom. Donning his blue suit, Phoenix leads a parade back to the courtroom. Along the way, Gumshoe and Maggey meet up and confess to one another, and his friends from college (Larry, Mia, Maya, Ronnie, Wocky) and even his parents have shown up to see the final trial day ("Legally Blonde Remix"*). Back at the trial, Max fires Kristoph and hires Phoenix, who is able to serve as the defense attorney so long as a licensed one oversees -- which Lenora gladly does.
The trial proceeds, calling the witness Ken Dingling to testify. Phoenix is able to find a contradiction in his testimony and unravel his lies, revealing that the witness purposely framed Max for the murder, as he had a grudge against Regina from years prior. Ken is arrested and Max is set free. Everyone celebrates together. Lenora turns to Phoenix, ready to tell him how she feels -- up until she sees Dahlia shyly standing in the background. Resigned, she leaves them to talk. Dahlia apologizes and tells Phoenix she wants to marry him, but he realizes that she never wanted to marry Matt in the first place. She was just looking for an 'upgrade'. He tells her it's over, but thanks her for breaking up with him as it helped him discover what he could really do ("Find My Way"). Dahlia is offended by the rejection and runs off.
Three years later, Edgeworth introduces Phoenix as the valedictorian of his class. Gumshoe jumps in to explain where everyone else is presently: Edgeworth practices family law, Matt dropped out to become an actor, and Dahlia found a wealthy husband in some other country. Kristoph ran for governor and was defeated, and Lenora completed a few trials that allowed her to get her mother and sister a nice house to stay in. And, of course, Gumshoe and Maggey are married with two kids and a third on the way. At the end of his speech, Phoenix proposes to Lenora, and she accepts ("Finale").
