hi, I just wanted to let you know that reading your writing brings me so much comfort and joy. Today, I found out that the person I’ve liked for the longest time has a girlfriend, and it’s been hard to say the least. It also didn’t help that I read an unrequited love blurb featuring remus as soon as I got home 😭 I was just wondering if you’d be willing to write something where the reader assumes that remus doesn’t like her because he seems aloof, but is actually just nervous because he likes her so much. I am so appreciative of you and your beautiful work, as always 🤍

Remus' thumping steps carry up the staircase only seconds after you call on him. You're facing the mirror when he arrives in the doorway, hair clasped to the side in one hand, and the other reaching aimlessly for the zip half way down the back of your dress. His eyes find yours over your shoulder in the reflection, a fond smile passing over his features when he steps through the threshold into your room.

"You look lovely." He comments, voice warm and smooth in the way that it always is.

Warm Remus, smooth Remus, so fond and kind, feels like home and everything familiar. His fingers are warm as he tugs gently at the zip, one hand placed on your shoulder for leverage. His touch is gentle, like he's afraid he might break you, and it lingers for only a moment when he's done. You swallow around the lump of want in your throat, the want for it to have lasted longer, the want for him to touch you and have it mean something. It doesn't do any good to want. Because you can't have, and you've had to deal with becoming okay with that fact.

"Thanks, Rem."

He nods, lips curled in on themselves like he wants to say something, a look in his eyes you've never been able to read. He says nothing, and he retreats with the promise to wait on you with the others in the living room. Remus does that a lot - refrains from the things he wants to say, stops himself short. You wish he wouldn't.

You're always wishing, wishing, wishing.

He keeps true to his word. Remus is waiting in the living room with Sirius, James, and a rather flustered looking Frank when you descend the staircase. It's only now you realise how lovely Remus looks in his suit. Partly because of how Sirius is wearing his - like he had a fight with it and lost. Remus stands when you appear, as if on instinct, and takes a step forwards. You smile, eyes catching on Frank who's looking at the clock like it's stealing time from before his very eyes. You suppose, in a way, it is.

"You okay?" You feel the need to ask, hint of a smile playing on your lips.

Frank looks alarmed by your question, a grimace on his face, "She's going to be there, isn't she? She's not going to, like, do a runner? Have you spoke to her today?"

James huffs a laugh, pats Frank on the shoulder rather heavily. The whiskey in his crystal tumbler splashes over the side and onto the rug. "Last I heard, Mary and Marlene had her pinned down in the make up chair, she tried, but they wouldn't let her."

Sirius barks a laugh. Frank scowls. He knows you're kidding. Alice Fortescue has been absolutely smitten for Frank Longbottom since she was thirteen. There's absolutely nothing that could stop her from walking down that aisle, today. Frank knows that as well as you do.

"Not helping." James decides, passes Frank a cigarette.

He mumbles something about not wanting to smoke inside and makes for the door. Remus gives James and Remus a pointed look, "Better make sure he doesn't do a runner, yeah?"

They're quick out the door like they actually believe Frank would ever do something like that. The only place he'd ever run to is Alice. And she'd have his balls for seeing her in her wedding dress before the ceremony. Remus gives you a familiar smile, a knowing smile, a smile he saves for you and you only. It feels like he's in on something you aren't when he smiles like that. Heat crawls up your neck, flowers wrap their way around you rib cage.

"You scrub up well, you know." Is all you manage to say, rather breathless.

Remus rolls his eyes, "I try."

A minute of amused silence, Remus passes you the glass of wine in his hand. The glass is warm from being in his clutch, but you drink from it anyway.

"I thought after the catering disaster this wedding wasn't going to happen." Remus admits, looking out of the living room window at where Frank paces the length of the front path, working his way through his second cigarette. Alice will have your head for allowing such a thing.

You hum a disagreement, eyes roaming Remus' face, it's so soft, so beautifully shaped. You've no idea why he hates his scars so much. They only outline his best qualities. The one over the bridge of his perfectly sloped nose, the one under his beautiful amber eyes, the one along his sharp cheekbones, and your favourite one: the one across his cupids bow, defining his soft, pink lips. It's a shame, really, that Remus Lupin thinks so little of himself. You'd give him the world should he only ask.

"I think nothing can stop a love like that," You murmur, soft and quiet, voice thick with something, "Not even a shoddy caterer."

Remus' eyes leave the front garden, meet with yours in a way that always makes heat explode in your chest. He's too much to look at, sometimes. It physically hurts.

"You always have such a positive outlook on life."

You laugh, shoulders shrugging, "Suppose it's habit."

"From?"

"Keeping you miserable lot from giving up all together?" You offer, smiling over the rim of your wine glass.

Remus laughs, genuine and unashamed. "Tell you what, at our wedding, I promise to be the one keeping everything together, how about that?"

He seems to flinch after that, like he's physically pained by the words coming out of his mouth. You flinch, too. The flowers around your rib cage wilt and pull tighter all in one go, a frown pulling at your lips.

"I wasn't aware we were getting married."

Remus smiles like he's in pain, "Yeah, well, step one would actually be asking you on a date, but I'm a right twat who's mucked all that up."

There's something self deprecating about him. You don't like it. Remus Lupin deserves the world. You'll give him the world. You didn't think he wanted that from you, though. But you smile, gentle and sweet in a way you hope he'll like. It feels like something shifts. Maybe the stars begin to write a story about you both. Maybe the sun stops it's rotation just for a second to watch you both.

The wedding car pulls up outside and Remus, seemingly eager to back away from the situation he's created, slams his own drink down on the table and makes for the door.

"Remus," You call after him, he turns, "I'd marry you."

You offer him a lopsided smile. His eyes search your face for any sign of a joke. He finds none. You hope he understands what you mean.

"How about a date first?" He asks.

You release a breath, a laugh, a smile. It feels like you're floating.

"Sure, yeah. That first."

The front door swings open and Sirius barges his way past Remus, panicked and disheveled, "I've lost the fucking rings!"

Remus sighs, hand in his pocket, hands Sirius the red velvet box, "Here."

You're laughing all the way down the path, shoulder brushing Remus', the start of something new.

She was perfect. She had flaming orange hair, bright green eyes, and a beautiful smile. The smile that made his heart stop and stomach drop. He wished he could kiss that smile every morning and night, run his fingers through her fiery locks, and get lost in her eyes. If only he had enough courage to ask her to be his girlfriend.

“Stop drooling, mate!” Sirius nudged him.

“I’m not drooling!” James’s face turned pink. He painfully tore his eyes away from her and set them back on his breakfast.

“You have a little bit of spit right there.” Sirius poked the corner of his lip with a napkin.

James swatted Sirius’s hand away. “Piss off.” He wiped the little bit of drool from his lip with the back of his hand.

“You really need to do something about your crush,” Remhs stated.

“Yeah! Just kiss her!” Sirius urged. “The worse thing she’ll do is pull away.”

“No, the worse thing that’ll happen is that she’ll never want to even speak to me again. I can survive without being her boyfriend, but not being in her life,” James disagreed.

“She won’t do that,” Remus snorted. “I dunno. Evans is pretty uptight,” Sirius remarked.

James hit Sirius upside the head. “Don’t talk about her like that.”

“Ow! That hurt!” Sirius whined. “Good,” James grumbled.

“She will still want you in her life, Prongs. She’s not that cruel.” Remus tried to lift his spirits.

“I know. She’s lovely.” James sighed dreaming, resting his chin on his fist and admiring her again.

“He kissed you?” Alice gasped. “Yep!” Y/n giggled.

“Oh, my god! That’s amazing! How was it?” Alice asked.

“Just as I had imagined,” Y/n sighed dreamily. Y/n looked off to the side, imagining the whole scene in slow motion for the hundredth time. “His lips were so soft and he tasted like raspberries and chocolate! Oh, and he’s such a good kisser.”

Alice giggled, “Sounds like you had the time of your life.”

“Oh, I would do it over and over and over again if I could.”

“Maybe you’ll have a chance to kiss him again. Did he ask you on a second date?” Alice asked.

“No, but I think he will. He said he had a great time,” Y/n shrugged.

“Hopefully he will. I bet he will. Who wouldn’t want a second date with you?” Alice asked rhetorically.

Y/n smiled, “Thanks, Al.”

“Are you talking about your date?” Pandora’s sweet, Irish accent sounded from beside the two.

Y/n turned to her other best friend, giving her a welcoming smile. “Hey, Pan. We were.”

“Oh! How did it go?” Pandora sat down next to Alice.

“Amazing. I felt like I was living in my own fairytale,” Y/n sighed happily. She fell into another daze as she thought about the kiss.

Pandora giggled, “Otto is quite dreamy, isn’t he?”

“Don’t you like Xenophilius?” Alice asked. “Doesn’t mean I can’t call another person attractive,” Pandora shrugged.

“Well just know that Otto’s mine,” Y/n grinned.

“Of course! I would never take away your soulmate.”

“Well, I don’t know about soulmate,” Y/n mumbled. “Seriously? All you ever do is talk about him,” Alice snorted.

Y/n shrugged, taking a sip of her pumpkin juice. She swallowed hard before answering. “Doesn’t mean he’s my one true love. Yeah, I like him a lot, but realistically I don’t think we’ll get married.”

Alice and Pandora gave each other a look. Y/n furrowed her brows and frowned.

“What?” She asked.

“You’re just always thinking of the future. Live in the now!” Alice explained.

“You won’t have any fun if you are always so practical,” Pandora agreed.

Y/n scoffed. She couldn’t believe what her friends were saying. It was far from the truth. “I do have fun!”

“When you’re not saying the word realistically,” Alice snorted.

“Okay, I’m not taking this abuse. I’m going to take a nap!” Y/n hopped up out of her seat. She took her books and turned on her heel, strutting out of the Great Hall.

“So dramatic,” Alice muttered. “Do you think she’ll ever find a man who she won’t make a pros and cons list about?” Pandora wondered.

Alice sighed, watching you as you turned out of the Great Hall. She looked back at Pandora with a worried frown. “It’ll be a miracle if that happens.”

James Potter x fem!reader - You're not very pretty part 2! Trigger warnings: underage drinking, reader being drunk, some cursing but not a whole lot. You had just come back from summer break, there was an aura around you that felt new and mysterious; you were confident. James was the first one to see you, and boy was he smitten but he had Lily now. And he couldn’t risk losing that, though one little peek at you couldn’t hurt right?

The boys were all lined up against the side of the hall watch as all the frantic first years ran about and all the head people alongside the prefects trying to calm them down. You were walking towards the Hufflepuff dormitories to go meet Alice Fortescue, your new found friend. Along the way you passed the boys, and James couldn’t help but stare.

“Hello boys.” you said rather coolly as you winked at Sirius.

James felt as though he got the wind knocked out of him. You had just passed him by only acknowledging Sirius. Of all people you choose the playboy of Hogwarts, which Sirius knew as well, let alone his best friend.

“HEY Y/N!” he called out, though you kept walking. It was as if you had forgotten him and he couldn’t do anything to fix it because he didn’t know why. It almost broke his heart.

“Stay away from her mate, or I’ll have your balls chopped off. I mean it.” James’ voice was rough and his tone was grave. “She’s not my type, I mean don’t get me wrong she is smokin '” his eyes widening in emphasis “and I would totally make out with her. But she’s not my type. And of course I’d never do that to you.”

That evening Gryffindor had a get together event, they invited every year to have a movie night and enjoy some vittles. You had just come back from Alice’s room with Dorcas, Marlene, and the infamous Lily. As you began up the stairs, opting to just sleep, you heard whistling and cheering. Going against every better part of yourself you looked over the railing to see James dipping Lily in a rather passionate kiss. It was enough to send you to your room in a fit, how could you have been so stupid to have let James go?

It was no secret that he was handsome, but he was also insanely smart. And his charm and wit was almost unmatchable, only one could beat him and that would be Sirius Black. You had drifted off wishing you had done things differently.

“Sirius, hi!” You smiled excitedly. Of course the boys knew who you were seeing as James never shut up and Remus was your study partner. But you had called Sirius ‘almost as insufferable as Potter’ more times than they could count, so why would you be striking up a conversation with him?

“Yes darling?” he looked up from his seat in potions.

“I was wondering if you wanted to accompany me to Hogsmeade this weekend?” leaning over in front of him he saw your shirt was unbuttoned by one too many buttons, your cheeks dusted with a rose color and desperate eyes.

“I’d love to.” Looking him up and down, hoping it looked sexy rather than weird, you walked away.

Saturday arrived and you were exhausted from the night before, you had spent hours with Alice scouring your wardrobe, as well as Marlene's, and her own. You had found the perfect outfit and crafted the perfect afternoon and plan. First step, find Sirius. That wasn’t too hard seeing as he had been waiting outside your dorm.

“Looking ravishing as always love.” he said, offering you his hand, beginning your trek to the quaint village.

“You flatter me too much.” wrapping your other hand around his arm you could feel him tense the slightest bit.

The date had been a hit, you and Sirius had more in common than you knew. It seemed that whether or not you continued this with him you would still be close. Now you were on your way back to the castle from Honey dukes, where you had a debate on what the best candy was. Hand in hand you made it back to the outside of the castle, no one else around.

“I had a great time, thank you for joining me.” Your gracious and enticing smile appeared as you moved closer inch by inch. Sirius almost forgot his promise to James, he felt like he was in a spell right up until your noses were touching. Quickly he gave your cheek a peck and stepped back. And you felt like you were going to hurl.

“It’s not you-” Sirius felt bad now about his actions seeing that it hurt you. “I promise, I just- you aren’t meant to be with me. You’re not mine.”

“Well, Black. I am not anyone's, I am my own person. Thank you very much.” you spat his last name like you would an insult as you wiped a stray tear and walked away.

You quickly made your way to the lavatory nearest to the Gryffindor tower. Discarding all you had brought by the entrance you threw yourself in a stall and let out a sob. Why’d you have to be so stupid. How has everything gone awry? In between the loud sobs you heard shuffling and then a quiet knock on your stall.

“Are you alright in there?” The soft sound of her voice made you want to rip out your eardrums and shove them down your throat. Merlin! You couldn’t get a break could you?

“Yes Lily, I’m fine.” your voice had a grave tone that could be heard even through the cracks and sniffles.

“I can listen if you need to talk, it’s not good to hold in your-” You threw the stall door open.

“I would rather die than tell you what's going on with me. You wouldn’t even understand with your perfect little life, grades, and boyfriend, you’re think you’re all that. Such a priss Why do you even care what’s wrong with me? You know what- just leave me alone alright?” You knew what you were saying was your true feelings, but you could have been nicer. Grabbing up your stuff you left the perfect girl to cry alone.

Falling on your bed you let out the loudest shriek into your pillow. What were you going to do? At this point you weren’t even trying to get James back, you were just trying to fill a hole. Your mind and body were swarmed with bad gross feelings. Lily didn’t do anything, James hadn’t done anything, Sirius was simply stating the facts. You couldn’t love him fully without letting go of James. Getting into your comfy clothes you made your way to Alice’s dorm hoping to be enveloped in her warm embrace and kind words.

As you were about to knock on the door you heard sniffles and waited.

“I don’t know why she hates me so much? I only wanted to offer my support, she said I had the perfect little life and called me a priss. I- I don’t even know what I did.” stepping away you felt like everything was caving in. You had really done it this time.

The week went by slower than ever. It seemed almost everyone was ignoring you. Alice said the bare minimum to you, only really talking about classes during your lunch on Friday. Remus and your study session was full of tension. It was easy to tell that everyone you knew heard about what you’d said to Lily earlier in the week.

“I didn’t mean to say it to her. But I don’t regret it.” your voice so quiet Remus almost hadn’t picked up on it. He replied with a simple hum.

Remus hadn’t agreed with James and his great idea of going after Lily so soon. But that didn’t mean he supported you either. The words you used were harsh and you hadn’t needed to get back at James. He understood your pain though, and that’s why he kept quiet.

The first quidditch match was this afternoon, Slytherin vs Gryffindor and everyone was excited. You had sat in the farthest spot from Lily and the others, still hoping to catch a glimpse of the boys in the air. With no surprise, but a lot of work and worry, Gryffindor had won! The evening was to end in a raging party, one that would include lots of alcohol.

The boys were in the locker rooms showering off and getting ready to be surrounded by lovestruck school mates. James kept to himself in the corner of the room hoping to get out sooner rather than later.

“Did you see Y/N?” someone muttered.

“Hell yes, she looked hot.” another whistled.

“Imma hit that tonight.” Which set off a round of laughter. James was fuming, whipping around he grabbed the boy by the collar holding him against a locker.

“You shut your dirty perverted mouth or Merlin help me I will make it so you can’t ever look at her again. DO YOU HEAR ME?!” He was practically screaming now. “That goes for all of you! You think Y/N is hot? You keep it to yourself. You don’t talk about her, you don’t think about her, don’t even look in her direction. Or I’ll beat the shit out of all of you one by one.” James suddenly dropped the boy to the ground and stormed out grabbing his stuff.

You were his girl whether you were together or not

Alcohol, blaring music, sticky sweaty bodies, and more nakedness then there should have been. The party was in full swing, and the team was in heaven, they were being doted on by those who thought they could get something by the end of the night. You were in the corner with one of the quidditch boys, Aiden Evander. You probably had more than enough firewhiskey, you could practically feel your body buzzing, but it wasn’t so much that you couldn’t think straight. You looked up at Aiden with those doe eyes that could get a girl anywhere, asking him to dance with you. This was the second boy this evening who turned you down in a fervent manner.

“Why?” you huffed in a distressed and angry manner. “Why won’t you dance with me?”

“I just can’t.” his voice squeaky.

“Someone telling you not to?” your fingers trailing up his chest lightly. You could feel his breathing pick up. You stopped when you saw the look on his face. “Oh my Merlin, someone did tell you not to didn’t they?!” He nodded his head. “Who?” following his gaze you saw James from across the room watching you intently before looking back to his conversation.

You grabbed a random cup from one of the tables and made your way to James. People were parting like the red sea waiting to watch things go down.

“You can’t just tell people to stay away from me James! You don’t get to do that!” you hissed.

“I didn’t do anything of the sort, now I am having a conversation. So if you would kindly wait your turn, I would appreciate that.” he turned back to the two boys who now had nervous looks upon their faces.

“No James, you can’t do that. You don’t get to control my life, control who I date or talk to. I am my own person who gets to make my own decisions. So do you, though those are questionable.” you mumbled the last part looking over at the redhead who had yet to notice what was happening.

“Y/N, just because you are a big girl now doesn’t mean you know it all. I was just trying to protect you.”

“I don’t need your goddamn protection.” you took one step closer trying to intimidate him. Now everyone’s attention is on you.

“Y/N, why don’t you take a breath and just calm down. We can talk about this in private.” Lily came up in between you and James.

“Oh bugger off Evans, nobody asked you. This isn’t any of your business.” The firewhiskey mixed with whatever was in the cup started to take effect.

Lily tried to reach for the cup in your hands, only hoping to stop you before you made a bigger scene. But you pulled the hand with the cup back and took a step closer to Lily, the anxiety present in her eyes. Sirius was quick to grab your arm and pulled you back a bit. Whipping back around, he saw fire in your eyes.

“We both know if she says something wrong it’s over.” Sirius said quietly. Taking a breath you turned back around facing James and Lily.

“And I thought I loved you… screw you both.” with that you walked out of the common room.

Finding yourself in the astronomy tower you watched the sky, your brain was going a thousand miles per minute. This whole time you had said you were screwing things up, rejecting James, trying to kiss Sirius, telling Lily off and being a jerk. You let all your worries leak from your eyes, so much so that the night sky was no longer visible.

The footsteps were quiet enough to miss, but you felt his presence. And it only made you want to cry more. He sat next to you wrapping his arm around your shoulder. It was quiet for a while, you wanted to stay in this moment forever. The cries turned to hiccups in your breath and just a few tears dropping here and there. He grabbed your chin pulling you to look at him, if only you could get lost in those grey eyes forever.

“I- I shouldn’t have done or said half the things I did. I feel horrible and I don’t know how to come back from it.” he lightly wiped your tears away.

“You apologize and move on. You can’t undo what happened, so you need to move past it now. However this works out, I'll be right here beside you. Alright?” Sirius reassured.

"Alright..."
