everybody is always talking about black brothers angst or wolfstar angst or Jegulus angst.
What about fucking black sisters angst???
Literally, I cry every time I think about those three. they have torn my soul in half and my heart is in constant tears at the thought of them. I think me shipping nobelflower makes everything worse, but I like the sadness, it's comforting.

UnMarked
@sapphicmicrofics nobleflower angst (dark mark prompt)
"Cissy..." Alice hisses, tears threatening to spill.
Narcissa hates the disappointment in her face, hates the disapproving slant of her brows, hates the expression that says she's too far gone for saving.
Alice used to look at her like she was worthy. Like she was redeemable. So much so, that Narcissa had almost believed it.
She needs Alice to see her that way again.
"But I didn't get it!" Narcissa pulls up her sleeve for proof. Her creamy skin is unmarred. "I didn't get the mark, Al."
"You may as well have!" Alice shouts angrily. "You're letting that... that maniac stay in your house!"
"It's only for a little while... Lucius says-"
"Lucius?! Why are you still letting him run your life?"
"Alice..."
The silence stretches uncomfortably for a moment too long.
"Oh, Merlin. You're never going to leave are you?" Alice's eyes are wide, staring at Narcissa like she could disappear any second.
"I- I will. I want to. I- Alice, listen, I can't just-"
Alice shakes her head, and the tears roll down her cheeks, brown eyes glistening. She gives Narcissa a tiny smile, one of resignation.
"I keep thinking you'll change, but you never do."
Narcissa's throat burns with tears, but she keeps her face cold, expressionless like she's been taught. "Al..." she croaks.
Alice leans in and kisses Narcissa, just a gentle press of lips, a token, something that she can keep for later to remember her by. Alice lingers, eyes closed to take in the moment, but Narcissa doesn't look away for a second. She desperately tries to memorize the slope of her lips, the dark flutter of lashes on flushed cheeks, the curl of hair resting across Alice's forehead.
"I wish we could have been different," Alice whispers.
Narcissa always knew that they were destined to crash and burn, she just didn't know that it would hurt like this.

dying on the hill we met on | 1.9k words
jegulus oneshot | mostly canon compliant (but regulus is alive) | tbh there's no jegulus til the end but it's worth the wait i swear | james being in his subconscious the whole time | nobody dies i promise it's a play on words
June 26, 1979
James had always liked summer. It was his favorite season for many reasons. The sun was always shining, the breeze just cool enough to balance out the warm temperatures. It's a shame he wasn't born in the summer.
It only makes sense he would want his wedding in summer. A beautiful venue filled with green grass and happy faces, his best friends beside him with massive smiles on their faces.
Sirius looks at James proudly, Remus next to him looking almost as elated as Sirius. Peter leans forward to look at James, his face happy but his eyes dim. At the end of the line, Frank is smiling at him fondly, with an older brother aura.
James looks around at all the people, finding his mother's face in the front row next to his father's, both looking at him as if they're remembering when they had gotten married.
James is happy. Who wouldn't be in this situation? He's marrying one of his best friends with the others by his side. His lovely parents are front row, about to watch a moment in time that will always be remembered as a joyous day.
So why does he feel conflicted? As if there's unfinished business haunting his every decision, waiting for him to make the wrong choice, standing in the shadows to watch him fail. Watching him always.
He makes sure there's still a smile on his face when the music changes. What could he have done differently? What if James had gone with him? Made sure everything was okay? Made sure he came back?
These thoughts torment the part of James' mind that ensures he always appears happy. He keeps his smile, unwavering with the growing tide of second thoughts.
Second thoughts that couldn't be acted upon, even if he wanted to. His mind takes him back to the moment Sirius told him they found a body in the lake. The moment they identified it. It didn't quite look like him, though. They told him that the body was waterlogged, so he wouldn't have looked the same anyway. It wasn't there though. The one specific freckle James had obsessed over whenever he looked at his face. It wasn't there.
The music had slowed, and the curtain of flowers at the end of the aisle had been pulled aside, letting the girl who had once been the one James had wanted most be seen.
She's walking slowly, clutching onto Mary's dad as her escort. Her eyes flick to Marlene, Alice, Emmeline, and Mary, her maid of honor. Then to James. His smile is still on his face, only faltering when he glances over to Marlene. A mistake.
She raises her eyebrow, wondering what could possibly be on his mind other than Lily. She looks at Sirius with a questioning look and he shrugs back before nudging Remus and whispering to him.
"What's up with James?", he asks Remus, who's slightly crouched over, "Marlene's asking."
"Dunno, maybe he has to piss", Remus replies before standing up straighter.
"Are you serious right now?", Sirius retorts quietly.
"No, but I have reason to believe you are though", Remus jokes.
"Not the time, but good one."
"Thanks, I know."
James, who is more and more uncertain with each step Lily takes toward him, risks a glance at Sirius, who was already concerned by Marlene's worries, and is met with an apprehensive look from him.
Sirius raises his eyebrow and tilts his head, a bit like a dog. James' smile is nearly gone.
"It wasn't there", James mutters, almost too quietly for Sirius to hear.
"What wasn't there?", he asks back gently.
"The freckle. It wasn't him, Sirius."
"What do you mean?", Sirius asks tensely.
"He's alive", James says to him, slightly louder than before, "I can't do this anymore. I have to go." He looks at Lily, who's looking at his parents, giddy and grinning. James brings a hand up to his face, feeling warmer and more anxious than ever, and finds his hand to be wet with tears. He's crying. They haven't left his eyes yet, but they're there.
Lily's looking at him again and he's thinking about her and Sirius and him and he realizes something.
He could never do this to Lily. He can't just leave to go find someone who might be alive. She's too good to do this to her. He loves her, just not in the way people would think given the situation.
She makes it up to the altar and Mary's dad goes to sit down. A single tear has left James' eye. Lily watches it travel down his face as the officiant speaks.
James goes back into his thoughts, drowning in the lingering feeling that he's still alive somewhere. Wading in the ever present guilt that encases him, telling him he should have gone with him or convinced him to not go. Drifting in the regret that he hadn't chosen to follow him and that he barely tried to get him to stay, knowing he could never change his mind once he had it made.
The officiant is talking through, going through his long speech about loving someone and he signals for James and Lily to hold each others hands. They do, and he finally says the words James has been waiting for.
"Now, if anybody has anything they'd like to say before I wed this couple, speak now or forever hold your peace."
James holds his breath, willing him to come through the flower curtain, barge in, object, run up here, crash the wedding, anything. Sirius glances at James cautiously, knowing he would never humiliate Lily like that, but also knowing he could never live with himself if he married Lily and lost his chance with his brother.
Not a single person moves. It's as if the world had paused to give them time. To give James time to make his decision, to give Sirius the opportunity to stop James if he moves, to give him time to say 'I object'.
He doesn't though. It's a little funny. He wouldn't have known they were getting married unless someone had told him, but who would have? Sirius surely didn't know, his reaction seemed genuine. Not many people were invited, it's mostly friends and family.
In hindsight, James should have known that he wouldn't have come back anyway. James always knew that he would be the first to leave. You can't get left behind if you leave first. Maybe that's what he was doing when he left for the lake that night. Leaving James first. Letting him down gently by faking his death instead of outright leaving.
James doesn't know what hurts more. Him being found dead or James realizing he's alive and avoiding him. Maybe he's not avoiding James, but staying away for his safety. He was like that. Keeping away so someone he cared for didn't get hurt or caught in the crossfire of his own misdoings.
James doesn't hear Lily start her vows. He doesn't hear the officiant asking James to start his. He doesn't feel Sirius tapping his shoulder to get his attention. He doesn't see the look on Lily's face when he's standing, blankly staring into the distance.
What he does see, though, is a boy. Up on a hill, leaning against a fence, a dark haired boy with his arms crossed is seen, despite all of his efforts to stay hidden.
James can't tell for sure if it's him, but he's not about to let him leave again if it is him.
"I'm sorry."
James moves to leave, but Sirius grabs his arm. He looks up at James with dejection in his eyes.
"Let him go."
James looks back at him, his eyebrows together and his mouth a line.
"I can't."
He looks over at Lily and she nods, "Go get him, James." She steps back and Mary puts a hand on her shoulder.
He smiles at her, "Thank you." James looks back up at the hill. His arms are no longer crossed and he's standing up straight. As if he's meaning to leave soon.
He can't leave. There are so many things James never got to tell him, never got to show him.
James makes his way down the aisle, the symbolism getting to him. Going down the aisle to the entrance is usually meant for couples who just got married, not for one of them to leave for someone else. He never thought of a deeper meaning to things before him. James had really only seen the surface meaning of things before him.
It's not a big hill he has to walk up, but James is feeling winded. Maybe the understanding that he's about to see one person who really saw James, the one that didn't show surface level. Anxiousness is pooling in his stomach, feeling like dread and ecstasy and impatience all in one.
James makes it to the fencepost he saw him leaning against, finding it vacant. He looks around and sees his back turned and walking away.
His expression falters. He's leaving again. James jogs up to him and just walks with him. He matches his pace, swinging his arms in time.
James only looks at him when he's sure he wouldn't notice. He did notice, but he'll never tell James.
"Do you love her?", he asks James.
His voice surprises James. He sounds almost the same, save for a hardness that must have appeared with time and damage.
It takes him a few seconds to respond, his mouth gone dry. "Not the way I did you. She's like a sister, if anything."
They stop by a bench and he sits down, motioning for James to do the same. He sits with one leg folded up under the other, his knee resting on James' thigh.
"Why'd you do it?", James asks, turning his head to look at him while he looks off into the distance.
He takes a deep breath in, then out. "I had to. He threatened to kill Sirius. And you, but he added that bit in later."
They sit there in silence for a few minutes before he leans his head against James' shoulder. James, surprised but not complaining, puts his arm around his shoulder, pulling him in closer.
"Regulus?"
"James?"
"Are you gonna leave again?"
Regulus looks over to James, making eye contact, "Not even if you wanted me to, pretty boy."
"Hold on, I'm the pretty boy?", James looks over at Regulus with visible confusion.
"Yeah", Regulus shrugs and looks back to the hills.
"Are you— Have you ever looked in a mirror?", James asks him with raised eyebrows.
"James I've said this before", Regulus tells him with a flat expression.
"Have you?", he asks Regulus, seemingly distressed.
"Yes", Regulus nods.
James looks over to the hills, then back at Regulus with an amused look on his face, "Okay then, if I'm such a pretty boy, then kiss me like one."
Regulus looks at James, still unimpressed by his antics after two years apart, yet always willing to play along. He takes James' face in his hands and kisses him, James leaning into Regulus, moving his hands into his hair as they move with each other.
Regulus breaks the kiss, his hands still around James, one on his neck and one on his shoulder.
"Was that to your liking, pretty boy?", Regulus asks, a smirk on his face.
"Indeed. It was so good, I think I may have blacked out a bit, maybe you should do it again?", James shrugs.
Regulus rolls his eyes, "Fine."

Alice tells Narcissa she loves her for the first time in a bathtub, water runs through her hair, Narcissa's head rests on Alice's chest, her humming lowers as she realizes the words, gray eyes looking up at Alice as if it were a miracle, as it is the first time she hears those words. Alice telling Narcissa that she loves her for the last time, in the middle of a cafe in Paris, gray eyes looking at her with pain, tears running wildly down that beautiful face, both with their hair wet from the rain they just left behind when they entered.

Seems to me I only know sadness so here’s another sad head canon. (TW! ED)
So I think we’ve all agreed that Regulus is very skinny but consider this. His horrible parents would starve him if he “did something wrong” or “misbehaved”. At some point they maybe stopped but because it affected Reggie so much he would starve himself if he thought he did something wrong or if he had made someone angry. Evan, Barty, Pandora, and Dorcas would notice when he would stop eating and they would all try to make him feel better to get him to eat. Sometimes this worked, sometimes it didn’t. When it didn’t work they would all spend as much time as they could with him. They wouldn’t say anything mean about him not eating, instead they would just be there for him. When it got really bad he would struggle to keep himself up in the straight posture everyone was used to seeing or keep himself awake, they would do anything they could to convince him to stay in bed because he would insist on going to his classes. When he would eat they wouldn’t say anything about it like “oh you’re eating now?”, they would just give him small smiles or words of encouragement. They all knew not to leave him during a meal, it didn’t matter how long it took him to finish his meal, even if he didn’t eat everything on his plate, they would sit with him until he decided it was enough or too much. They wouldn’t tell him to finish they will just nod along and accept it as was because they all knew it took time for him to get better and pressuring him wasn’t healthy or good for him.

Remus Lupin <3
Tumblr media
I've always imagined that, after years of putting his needs aside, Remus always saw himself as a burden. Then, he gets to Hogwarts, and they are so kind to him there. They give him accommodations, and his friends are so caring. Everyone is constantly telling him that
"It's okay to have boundaries"
and
"It's okay to take care of yourself/put yourself first."
and
"You don't have to please everyone. You can't. Remus, it is impossible to try and make everyone happy when you're not doing well."
(That one came from James.)
Still, he had trouble unlearning the things he was told growing up. Core beliefs were instilled in him, telling him he was a burden because he was too sore to do something or too tired to stay up and talk with a friend. He constantly pushed his boundaries to placate those around him because
"They won't stay my friend if I'm honest with them."
because
"Being a werewolf is a big enough burden on them."
and, so
"I can't ever say no because that would let them down more than I already have."
Soon, his loved ones noticed that he was too fatigued to do something, or maybe he would spend extra time in the shower, soothing his aching joints. Perhaps he would miss more classes than usual or be with Madam Pomfrey more often. They noticed he was pushing himself, and they had to talk to him about it. He still had trouble, but it became easier because he found people who told him it was okay to have boundaries.
It was okay to have needs, no matter how silly they may seem.
It was okay to express his feelings.
He found people who told him
it was okay to be human.

"I'm in love with you."
Narcissa stopped in the middle of the corridor; she spun on her heel, turning around to the sight of Alice, half out of breath and still in her quidditch uniform, covered in mud. She smoothed down her mini skirt, having just changed out of her own uniform, and walked closer to Alice. Within an arm's reach.
"You can't."
"I can't help how I feel."
"I can't be with you, Alice. You know that. I told you that. Don't- don't confess your feelings to me now, when I can't relay my own. You know I can't. I'm with Lucius now."
Alice grabbed Narcissa's arm as she tried to walk away, "But do you love him?"
"You know I don't, Al."
"And you deserve more than a loveless marriage, Cissy. I want to give everything to you."
"I can't! Just- date Frank. You love him."
Alice frowned, "Not like you. I'll never love anyone as much as you."
Narcissa sighed, "Love... Love isn't something that just happens. Maybe I don't love Lucius yet, but I will in time. I can learn to love him."
Alice let Narcissa go, turning around.
Narcissa made no move to leave. Staring at the back of Alice, she stood still. Alice turned to her.
"Don't marry him."
"We're set to be engaged."
"Don't marry him."
Narcissa brought a hand to her head, pulling slightly on the dyed blonde, "You ask of too much from me."
Alice took her hand, bringing it down to rest in hers, "I liked your black hair. You still look beautiful, of course. You could never look anything less than stunning."
Narcissa stroked Alice's hand, "Malfoy's are always blonde."
"You're not a Malfoy, Cissy."
"I will be."
Alice searched her eyes, "I love you, Cissy. Does that not mean anything?"
"It can't. I've- I've spent my entire life preparing myself for a specific lifestyle, for riches, for status, for early marriage, and careless men. Don't do this to me, Al. I would leave everything for you and then what?"
"We'd be happy!"
Narcissa shook her head, a tear rolling down her cheek that Alice wiped away, "Bella would be left alone. I won't do that to her. You mean everything to me, Al. But never more than my sister. You'll be happy, you can live without me in your life. But Bella won't, she can't. She's already lost one of us, I'll never let her lose us both."
Narcissa took her hands out of Alice's, "I think and feel things for you I dare not confess to my very soul. But it shall hold in your heart. You know how I feel, let that carry with you as a reminder of our past. But it must lie in the past. I'm sorry, Al."
Narcissa turned on her heel again, dashing down the heel, towards the Slytherin common room. Wiping tears as they fell from her eyes.
Alice stared at Narcissa leaving. She touched her heart, feeling the heart shaped locket Narcissa had once gifted her. Alice opened it carefully, a tear rolling down her cheek and resting itself on the small polaroid inside. They had been at a party for Frank's band; Kingsley had passed around a camera, and as it came in the hands of Alice, she had leaned over to Narcissa and kissed her cheek with a snap of the camera. Narcissa had blushed, a large smile on her face, and a lovesick look in her eyes.
The only image of the two that would ever exist.

narcissa and alice used to hide in the astronomy tower most nights. they'd look up at the stars and narcissa would point out the constellations, oblivious to how alice was only watching her. until, one day, alice suggested that they go somewhere else. and alice took her to the herbology greenhouses, where she showed naricssa a potted flower she'd hidden among the other plants. 'this is a dafodil,' alice explain. 'also called a narcissus. i prefer to call them narcissas.' 'why are you telling me this?' 'because,' alice said with a sad smile, 'i see how sad you are that you're not up in the stars with the rest of your family. so i grew you your flower so you never forget that you are also beautiful.'
narcissa kept the daffodil on her desk for years to come, keeping it alive. and everytime she saw it, she would remember, she might not be named after a star, but she was a flower, and she was still beautiful.

TW: Honestly, I have no idea. There is mention of someone being shoved into a small space and locking a baby in a room.
Summary: What is meant to be comfort turns into an eerie realization.
A/n: sorry for taking forever, I just haven’t had the energy to do anything at all. Also sorry it's short.
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Tumblr media
You decided to stay in on Thursday and try to recover rather than shopping with the girls. Though they seemed to have other plans. The doorbell rang, and you ignored it. They, whoever it was, would go away if they thought you weren’t there, right? Pulling the cool damp washcloth further over your face, you heard the doorbell again, followed by various forms of knocking on your door. With a groan and huff, you grabbed your robe before making your way to the door.
The second you open it 5 girls are tumbling in. Mary and Alice are quick to push into the kitchen while Dorcas and Lily move to the living room, leaving Marlene’s smiling face in front of you.
“My love! We heard about your… predicament and we thought we could have a girls day in! You probably didn’t want to go out and be around people, so we brought everything to you, snacks, pajamas, face masks, some magazines, movies, blankets, everything. We just don’t want you to be alone.” She squeezes you in a tight hug before giving you a peck on the cheek and rushing off to the kitchen.
You shut the door before making your way to the kitchen. Mary is filling up the kettle while Alice is pulling some stuff out of your fridge. You can hear Lily pulling open the shades letting in the late morning sun. Mary then steps away from the stove moving to help Alice while she waits. They belong here. You can see the ease with which they move through your house, the soft laughter when they bump into each othe
Just as you are about to offer to help, Dorcas grabs your wrist gently and pulls you to the living room and sits you on the couch before plopping next to you. She puts an arm over your back and rests her head on your shoulder. Marlene brings out the tray of food Alice and Mary had worked on before sitting on the other end of the couch. The kettle begins to whistle, then slowly quiets. Alice, Lily, and Mary come out carrying 2 cups each and pass them out before having a seat. Alice sitting beside you, Mary and Lily between Dorcas and Marlene.
For a while it is quiet except for the sporadic slurp of tea. You couldn’t help the ache in your heart, your girls, your girls, your girls. It kept playing over and over in your head. All of this felt so familiar but so off.
“It was awful.” Your voice is quiet but heard. “I thought I was going to die.” Bringing a hand up to hold your throat, flashes of you drowning crossed your mind. Alice tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, letting her hand fall to rest on your shoulder.
“Can I be honest?” She asks, though she already knows she can. Everyone turns their attention to her. “I, well…” she takes a deep breath and sets her tea down on the table. “I had somewhat of a similar thing happen. I was cleaning the house, Frank was out mowing the lawn. It kind of happened out of nowhere, but was cleaning the shower door from the inside. And I started to feel claustrophobic. The walls began to close in on me, and when I tried to open the shower door it wouldn’t budge. Everything got smaller and I pushed myself into the corner and curled up. But I could still see through the glass.” Marlene seemed the least worried. Everyone else had a scared look in their eyes. “Frank came into the room, must have been going to wash his hands. But he didn’t even see me, it was like I wasn’t there.” She shuddered and wrapped her hands tighter around her cup.
You rubbed her back, the thought of anyone else having to go through what you did made you feel sick. There were a few ‘I’m sorry’s and a few ‘how awful’s before it was quiet again. Lily took a deep breath before beginning her terrifying memory.
“A few nights ago Harry just would not stay asleep. But I stayed in bed, James kept saying that if we went and checked on him every time he’d cry Harry wouldn’t get used to just having to put himself to sleep. But then he finally calmed down, and it was silent. I thought it was safe enough to go into his room, right?” She held her head in her hands for a few moments before continuing. “But when I tried to open the door, it was locked. We didn't lock his door, so of course I started to panic and pushed at the door. But nothing I did worked, so I called out to James. When he came running over there was nothing in his eyes, he just kind of stood there waiting for something.
“But when he tried to open the door, it was unlocked. And then he went stock still before coming over and wrapping his arm around me and started telling me Harry was okay in a calm voice. It was unnerving.”
“What do you do with information like this? Who do you tell?” Marlene asked rhetorically. We sat in silence trying to figure it out. Though like clock work, everybody began cleaning up the room, moving things into the refrigerator, washing dishes in the sink.
“Maybe we tell the doctor? There could be something going on with multiple people that they could help with.” Mary suggested. We all looked to each other for the confirmation of the plan, with some nods we would talk to the doctor tomorrow.

Angsty April 2024 - Day 4: Arranged Marriage @angsty-april Narcissa/Alice, Narcissa/Lucius Ao3 link if you'd prefer
Narcissa was seventeen years old, almost eighteen. Her time at Hogwarts had come to an end three days ago, and she was meant to run away in two days with the love of her life. Her parents weren't going to let that happen though. Not after Andromeda had done the exact same thing.
"Get up," her mother said harshly. Narcissa knew then exactly what was to happen that day. The Malfoy-Black marriage had been prepared since the birth of Andromeda. It was not Andromeda that would be wedding Lucius though. She had gotten lucky. She had known every detail of her wedding, including the date, and she had been able to escape.
Narcissa wanted to be angry at her, and she was, a little bit at least. But she could not fault her sister for doing something she had been planning to do herself. A love like the one Andromeda had with Ted, like she had with Alice, well that was once in a thousand. The success of that love though, that was once in a generation and Andromeda had won that lottery.
Narcissa's mother did not stick around long, instead past her over to her older sister Bellatrix. Bellatrix had been getting darker since her own wedding, or perhaps longer than that. Maybe all the times she'd been on the other end of the Crucio and Imperius curses had gotten to her mind.
"You will marry him," she said.
"I haven't got a choice," Narcissa responded. The room fell silent for a moment and she moved from her bed to her vanity. She wasn't even sure what the colour scheme was, what makeup and hair would suit her dress. She knew nothing.
"No, I suppose neither of us did," Bellatrix agreed. "If you had a choice though, would you still marry him?" Narcissa met her eye through the mirror.
"Would you have gone through with your wedding if you had a choice?" she asked instead.
"No," she admitted quietly.
"Me neither," Narcissa admitted just as quietly.
"This shouldn't be you wedding," Bellatrix said.
"Bella, please, you know we can't blame her. She's our sister," she said.
"Exactly. She's your older sister she was meant to protect you," she said harshly. "I married my husband because I knew if I didn't one of you would have had to. She was selfish." Narcissa sunk in on herself.
"Can I have a moment alone?" she asked. Bellatrix's hand landed on her shoulder. Their reflection in the mirror reminded her painfully of the portrait in the hall, the one her father had wanted to burn but her mother had refused to allow it. They were just missing Andromeda.
"You know I can't leave you alone," she said.
"Just long enough for me to send a patronus, please Bella," Narcissa asked, turning to look her in the eye properly. The two sisters looked at each other for a moment. "Please Trixie." Bellatrix sighed and stepped back slightly.
"I'll be right outside the door. If you run away, you know what will happen," Bellatrix agreed. Narcissa watched her walk to the door, but before she left she paused. "Mother took your wand, don't make me regret this," she said, tossing over her own wand. Narcissa thanked her as she stepped into the hall. She took a deep breath and produced her patronus.
"Take a message to Alice Fortescue," she instructed it. "I'm so sorry my love, the wedding is today, you know I cannot run now. I wish you a good life." With that the blue creature slipped through her bedroom window and away to her love. Bellatrix returned, clearly having been listening.
The sisters did not talk of it. Instead they prepared Narcissa for her wedding with the same depressing aura as the preparations for a funeral. Bellatrix helped her into the dress, did her hair and makeup, and took her downstairs to their mother and father. Bellatrix's husband was stood there, talking to their father but neither bothered to speak to him.
Their mother took Narcissa's arm and apparated them away. Their father followed, along with Rodolphus. Bellatrix hung back and cast her own patronus. The Malfoy Black union had to go through, but she knew that love was important. As was family. After they were sent off, Bellatrix apparated to the Malfoy garden.
Eventually it came time for Narcissa to walk down the aisle. She'd spent far too much time stood in the garden waiting for it all to start. Once she was stood at the alter, she glanced to the crowd. Hidden in the back were to figures.
Narcissa would recognise the pair anywhere. Andromeda and Alice. She found Bellatrix in the crowd and gave her the smallest smile, Bellatrix responded with a slight nod.
She spoke the vows with no emotion, as did Lucius. Her heart broke slightly as they shared the smallest kiss.
"Announcing Mr and Mrs Lucius Malfoy!" the ministry officiant said. A little part of Narcissa Black curled up and died in her soul. She looked to Alice for comfort, but both her and Andromeda had left.

Narcissa slowly steps on the stone floor of the Astronomy tower, her heels clacking roughly against it. She scratches at one arm, her eyes tracing the room like she's memorising every wall and crack. She uses one hand to brush her fingers through her blonde hair.
“Cissa,” Narcissa jumps and almost falls over onto the ground but a hand grabs her wrist. “Woah! Sorry!” It's Alice, smiling a bit sheepishly. Narcissa sighs in relief.
“You scared me,” Narcissa hisses, righting herself and brushing off her skirt. Alice takes her hands pulls her closer, so they’re close enough that Narcissa could just lean down a little kiss her.
“Sorry, my love. You look amazing.” Alice tells her with a smile. Narcissa almost melts into the shorter girl, just at the sound of her praise. But she doesn't, she sighs. “Something on your mind?”
“It's…” Narcissa takes a deep breath. “Bella’s engagement is going through, they're already planning for Andi. I'm next, I don't doubt that.”
“We’re only 15…” Alice mumbles. “They can’t—”
“They will.” Narcissa interrupts. “Father and Mother have always looked past me, considering I was their last hope in having an heir. A male heir. They’re counting on Sirius now, so they’re intent on marrying us all off. Bellatrix is loyal but she’s— she’s destructive, she has our Father’s temper. Andromeda is independent, she doesn’t believe in their ways and she voices it.” Narcissa lets go of Alice and walks away from her, to lean on her hands on the windowsill. Alice doesn’t speak as Narcissa goes on. “I’m their last hope in a daughter with value. I’m unimportant, this is the first time I’ll be able to be valuable to them. And of course my fate is to be married off to some pureblood man and produce them children.” Narcissa hangs her head in anguish.
She isn’t shocked that this is how her life will turn out, but secretly she’s hoping that Alice will have an answer, a way to get out yet not be hated. Not be…a disgrace. She prays that there is a way that she can spend the rest of her life with Alice.
“Cissa…” Alice speaks softly, she comes up to stand beside the blonde, she runs a hand through Narcissa’s hair. The hair she’s hated since forever, blonde and straight like her mother. Not the look of a Black. She’s always wished that she looked like her family, but she doesn’t. Alice loves her hair, she loves everything about Narcissa. Narcissa has stayed up at night, just wondering why.
“It’s hopeless, Ali.” Narcissa says. “I knew this wouldn’t last forever.” Her voice breaks, cracks like a stone wall eroding over time. A dam that’s about to break, an ocean of held back emotions ready to flood out and drown everyone around her, and herself. She dares to look Alice in the face and she sees beautiful chocolate eyes staring back at her, emotion dripping from them. Narcissa cups her face. “I’m sorry, love. I didn’t mean to make you cry.” She whispers.
“It’s— You didn’t upset me, darling. I just hate to see you sad like this. I hate to know that…that your family hurts you like this.” Alice pauses, thoughts flooding through her brain. Her thought process visible on her face. “Why don’t we run?” Alice suggests. She puts her hands on Narcissa’s wrists. “Why don’t we just leave this all behind. Go somewhere…To America, I don’t know. I just can’t bare this any longer, Cissa.” Alice sighs and she runs her fingers down Narcissa wrists.
“Outrun time?” Narcissa asks. “Alice, I can’t just...” Alice stares into her eyes. “I can’t leave everything for—” Narcissa pauses. Alice deflates, she looks away from Narcissa and out to the night.
“You can’t leave everything behind for me…it’s fine, I get it.” Alice laughs dryly. “I don’t know what I expected you to say anyway.”
“I love you Alice, I really do—”
“Not enough to leave for me, though.” Alice shakes her head. “Not enough to spend your life with me.” Narcissa trails her hands down so they rest on Alice’s neck. She doesn’t say anything. “Up here, it’s just us. Our own world, where we can be together— But that’s all it is, isn’t it? We won’t leave this place and still love each other, will we?” Narcissa doesn’t answer, instead she just drags Alice closer and she kisses her, Alice kisses back with the same gentleness. They part and they rest their foreheads together.
“I wish things were different—” Narcissa lets out, she’s happy to pretend like everything will go right, just for a while anyway. But Alice pushes away from her.
“Cissa—” Alice says, breathlessly. “We can’t keep going with this.” She says. She looks away, anger on her face. Narcissa hates to see her mad. “You’ve chosen your side.” She turns to walk away.
“Alice—” Narcissa begins.
“Goodnight Narcissa.” Narcissa never knew how much those two words could sting.
