I just had a thought that might not be universally true and is only true to me, but hey that's what Fanon is for.
Xander Harris.
Goofball.
Immature.
Internalized Homophobia.
Shitty with women (in that he does not know what he's doing and will 100% leave you at the altar if a demon shows a false future of him turning into his dad (fucking choke Tony)).
Human. Very human indeed.
He is very. Very. Self aware. And we see that, in small seconds that can be thrown away. And also by the fact that Caleb poked his fucking eye out bc Xander Sees and he tells Dawn this.
Xander, the only human who has no real connections to the world Buffy is in apart from his sense of loyalty, his friendship with Willow and the fact that he moidered Jesse.
He knows he isn't smart. He knows he screws up. He knows he disappoints his friends. He knows.
But he doesn't change. Bc that would mean turning into something he isn't. He is the Zeppo(without ever getting the girl).
Xander is aware of all of this.

My least favourite Buffy characters are Xander and Riley. I can't comment on the fans at the time because I was a baby but most of the female fans I know agree with me. Do we think this pisses Joss off because they're his self-inserts? And like women hate them? Because they're shitty men? If so I think we should continue.
