Heisenburg’s Boss Fight
Ok, so I recently beat the game on VoS difficulty (and got all the achievements). I’ve played the game, in full, 5 times.
I liked Dimitrescu’s boss fight. Even in VoS it was relatively easy. Beneviento’s house was a breeze because it doesn’t change at all between difficulties. Moreau’s was nasty but easy. I was like “wow, VoS is so much easier than I thought it would be.”
Then I got to the factory....
Sturms boss fight nearly made me bang my head against the wall. Two hits and I would be dead. Sometimes, he wouldn’t even let me get up after the first hit. I thought that, surely, Heisenburg’s fight couldn’t be that difficult....right?
Wrong. I spent like 30 minutes trying to kill him. This, plus my other playthroughs, made me realize just how boring his fight is. You would think that since he’s the final lord we have to kill that his boss fight would be epic but it was...so plain??? Considering Heisenburgs love for theatrics you would think he would have a much more interesting boss fight but CapCom said no.
I get it, he was just focusing on killing Ethan but still. Not only is his fight badly designed, but it’s just not that interesting. Also, his mutated design is rather ugly. I don’t mean it in a “gross” kind of way (like Moreaus design), but in a “bland” kind of way. He’s literally just a lump of flesh-metal with two long arms. Thats it. His normal/human design is so cool but his mutated one just falls flat for me.

Playing Favorites
Continued from here, @sapphic-alcina-dimitrescu
“They are your daughters, Countess. No matter what you may tell them, they will come to their own conclusions. Whether on their own or by talking to one another,” Magda explained. “I am by no means judging you, but with three daughters, they will figure out who is and who isn’t the favorite. Whether it’s correct or not is... it’s not...” she sighed, not sure how to explain things.
“I only have... had an older brother, so it wasn’t much of a competition, but it’s was there. My father didn’t exactly like that I went for an impractical course of study at school, so that was a mark against me. And then, I ended up here... so they consider me dead to them. End of the competition, I guess.” She was quiet for a moment, not intending their conversation to go in this direction.
“You don’t play favorites with your daughters, Countess, but they all think they’re your favorite. Bela probably thinks she’ll inherit everything, Daniela knows she is your baby, and Cassandra? Guard dog, enforcer, the one you can always count on? You cherish each one for many different reasons. You love them, and you’d go through hell to keep them safe. That’s the important thing.”
Her smirk turned into a grin. “I might have something planned, if you ever wish to do a movie night, I’m sure the Duke could procure a few films.  That way, you can see how Dracula and other vampires are portrayed.”

Cut the Ties
Hey people, I bringeth a fanfic for you, centred around@professionallydeadinside 's Muriel OC - as always, all credit goes to them for such an amazing concept. I hope you enjoy it!
Chapter One
It had been a long night of rustling and tossing.
Muriel had forgotten the last time she had a peaceful sleep, it had to be before Mother Miranda got hold of her. All Muriel remembered was darkness and pain, her body ached and the mere thought of that woman coming back sent Muriel into a cold sweat.
Their battle was a long and almost fatal. Muriel had passed out only to wake up in the house of Donna Beneviento whilst Miranda scuttled away to a place unknown, no one in the village cared.
Miranda was gone, her insane rule of the land was over, people were free and no long lived in fear, Muriel was hailed as a hero.
Yet, the girl felt far from it.
Her body beaten, broken, deformed. She hated to see herself in the mirror. She covered up the one taunting her in her room, she made sure not to pass any in the house. It come to a point that Donna covered up all of the mirrors in her home, knowing it made her girl uncomfortable.
Donna knew she needed to be careful, especially with a girl so young, Muriel went through something no child should ever go through, let alone an adult. She didn't like to see Muriel so upset and hating herself, she wanted to do more but Muriel had to meet her half way.
Muriel had to accept what happened, happened and that she's alive and safe.
Things take time and all Donna and the other Lords could do was be there for the little girl.
It was breakfast, Donna made a spread and toast and jam, they ate quietly.
Muriel sat up at the table yawning away and rubbing her eyes, she jerked as one of the pincers in her mouth caught her top lip. Muriel got angry and slammed a fist hard on the table.
'Muriel.' Donna frowned. 'Respect the furniture, please.
'I'm finished.' The girl huffed and slide out of hair chair. 'I am going out.'
'Where?'
'Out.'
Donna stared as Muriel vanished beyond the door, she sighed and reached for her phone.
Winter was here, snow was everywhere. Muriel kicked flowered smothered in the stuff. It dusted up the already foggy air. She carried on north, not sure where exactly to go, maybe she could find herself a spot to be alone, to think. She knew Donna would often send Angie to spy on her, she hated it but knew it not out of hate but because the woman cared yet, there was only so many times someone could say 'I love you' before it got annoying.
Of course Muriel loved Donna, she loved everyone but the battle with Mother Miranda traumatised her. She almost lost everything, she nearly lost Donna. It made her feel weak and ashamed.
Sometimes, Muriel did wonder if it'll be best if she just ran away. No one would have to worry about her and Muriel would only have to care for herself, she could do it. She had abilities no normal girl had.
She could climb up walls and find her way around with the click of the stems in her mouth.
Not to mention the extra legs spouting out of her sides, they make for excellent daggers. She could defend herself, she made that one clear if only just.
She stopped dead in the middle of the path, the world foggy around her, her head a mess and a prickle to her skin. Muriel felt faint, alone and lost but the thing was she knew she wouldn't. She felt like a burden, a weight on Donna's kind nature and a waste of time to the other lords.
A loud squawk of a crow pulled her back into reality. She looked up and in a tree, standing on a branch was the big bird, it looked right into her eyes. She stated back.
It was intense, both locked in a battle of stares.
'Ahhh!' Muriel screamed.
It flew away.
Muriel kept walking.
As she pressed on, she heard laughing, a familiar kind laugh of a man.
Coming into view was a carriage and sat in it was Duke. A cigar was wedged within his fingers.
'You know, to catch a bird, may I suggest a bow?' He grinned.
Muriel looked and carried on her way.
'What has you so down, my girl?' He asked.
'Nothing.' She spat.
'That's an awfully big 'nothing'.'
She stopped and turned to the man. 'Sleepy. Can't sleep.'
'Ah ha! Then perhaps I can help?' Duke gleamed.
'No money.'
'As if I'd charge the girl who saved the village! Besides you need is warm milk and a stay in the back of my carriage.'
Muriel stared at Duke, unsure.
'And cookies.'
Muriel perked up and dashed towards the man, she scuttled and climbed over the man's gigantic frame, rubbed his cheek with hers and settled in the back of his home on wheels.
Muriel woke up but not in the carriage, it was a land filled with black curved trees, she has been here before... this was where her battle with Mother Miranda ensued. Her heart began to beat, to the left she saw the lords tied up amongst the trees, she tried calling out to them but there was no voice.
A cackle from behind, Miranda was there, demented and ready to make a swing for the girl, she was grabbed around the throat and pinned to the ground.
Muriel wriggled, she tried to claw at Miranda but it was no use.
'We must cut the tie that bonds us! Come to me!' Mother Miranda yelled. 'Or suffer!'
Muriel tried to scream, she kicked, pinched, everything, She was helpless.
'Come to me!'
Muriel took in a deep breath and screamed...
'Muriel!' The Duke cried.
Muriel opened her eyes, she was curled up in the Dukes bed. She got to her legs and looked around. 'Where's Miranda!?'
'Miranda?'
'Where is she?!'
'Not here, she's not here, my child, I assure you.'
'Cut!'
'I beg your pardon?'
'Cut the ties that bond us!' Muriel cried, repeating her dream.
'Ties? What ever do you mean?'
Muriel stood there, panting and then fell, crying.
Duke looked over to the girl and mulled it over in his mind. 'Perhaps we should tell the Lords.'

Alcina Dimitrescu x reader
Word Count: 2.6k
Warnings: death, threats
Author’s Note: ahhhhh I loved this so much!! What i wouldn’t give to live in the castle with these ladies omg. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Requested: by anon, I'm a bit dumb ahahahahaha but I had a small idea about reader being a maiden of the castle but instead of ending up as all the others, Lady D fells for her and idk it sounds silly to me, if you don't like that idea I'm completely okay with the headcanons, idk I trust you completely 💖💖
Summary: the request
I don’t own these characters. They belong to author/director/creator
(not my gif)
Tumblr media
Mother Miranda shoved you into Castle Dimitrescu the second she saw you. She muttered something about how Alcina was getting rid of maids and food too quickly. You had come from outside the village and didn’t know much about the place you had ended up.
Truth be told you were just trying to get on for a nature walk and then you ended up in a village. That’s what you get for straying too far. You were exhausted, alone and without any kind of cell service. The woman, Mother Miranda, took a quick look at you and then pushed you into a huge castle.
That surprised you. You didn’t think there were people in castles anymore.
Confusion spread over you even further when you were handed clothes by the other maidens in the castle. You looked around eagerly, searching for an answer to where you were.
“Is there a phone here?” you asked quietly to the woman who was giving you clothes. She shook her head quickly.
“You’re not from the village are you?” she asked. She looked to be about your age but her hair was graying from the roots. Something was weighing her down, that was for sure.
“No I was walking and then....I drove too far up and couldn’t find a trail…”
“Well you better get used to it here. You’ll die here.” Her voice sounded so calm that you almost thought she was joking. But she didn’t laugh.
“Excuse me?”
“The mistress here will kill you and if she doesn’t, her daughters will.” You scoffed as she started to take off the strap of your shirt.
“Hey hey!”
“Just put these on,” she said, sighing. She sounded a little bit scared, but only a tad. You grabbed the clothes and nodded, turning around. You were in a small room that you had to guess was the servants quarters. How old was this place? You quickly got undressed and put on the clothes that she had given you. All black, knee length dress. Typical maids outfit. How did you get yourself into this?
“What are their names? What do they look like? What’s your name?”
“I’m Celeste. They took me from the village a couple of months ago. The tallest one, the lady of the house, is Alcina Dimitrescu. Her daughters are Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela. The girls are made of bugs…they..drink blood,” her voice was shivering now. You scoffed.
“Vampires? Made of blood? Come on now Celeste you can’t really believe in that?” She gestured to the door.
“You’ll see soon enough. Just do as they say. Even then you might get killed.”
=====
You just walked around the castle, waiting until one of the supposed vampires found you. Bela was the one who saw you first.
“Who are you?” If you hadn’t seen her come out of thin air from bugs, you wouldn’t have believed it. You stumbled back, gasping. She looked you up and down, circling you. “One of the new madeins?”
“Uh...yes. Yes. I’m Y/N.”
“Bela Dimitrescu. Have you met my mother?” You shook your head quickly, circling around and watching her watch you.
“No, I haven’t. You’re the first of the family I’ve seen.” She nodded, stopping in front of you and grabbing your arm.
“All of the maidens have to meet my mother before they die. And I’m terribly hungry.” You shivered and let her drag you up the main stairwell. You looked around at the beautiful architecture. It wouldn’t be too bad to live there. It was gorgeous and regal.
She took you down the hall and then up another stairwell. She knocked on the door of one of the many rooms. You waited wordlessly and nervously.
“Come in,” a voice said. Even the voice sounded regal. Bela opened the door and pushed you inside.
“A new maiden!”
Alcina turned around in her chair. Your eyes went wide. She was gorgeous. Her dark lips turned up to a smile and she held her hand out, gesturing for you to come forward. You gulped and took a couple steps to her, wondering if she could truly feel your heart beating in your chest.
“What’s your name?” she asked kindly.
“Y/N.”
“Not a local?” she hummed. You shook your head gently. She nodded, grabbing your arm and then tracing her fingers down your arm, examining you. “You’ll do nicely. Don’t kill her Bela.”
“But mother!”
“Not yet. Have Celeste show her the rounds, she will do Elizabeth's old route.” Bela groaned but nodded.
“Fine.”
“I will be seeing you Y/N. I’m Alcina Dimitrescu, by the way.” You wanted to say something like ‘I figured’ but you bit your tongue. Bela grabbed your arm and led you out
=====
You spent the next couple of days doing the things that Celeste told you to do and anything the daughters wanted as well. You cleaned, helped them dress when they were feeling lazy, got people in for them to feed on.
But you didn’t see Alcina.
You would go outside of her room and clean outside but you never were allowed to go in. Celeste would clean her bathroom and bedroom. Sometimes you would hear her speak and you would strain to listen.
Celeste walked up to you, out of breath and dripping with sweat.
“Go clean Lady Dimitrescu’s room,” she said. You were scrubbing the floor on the main hall but stopped when her words registered.
“What?”
“I...Daniella...just go.” She grabbed your arm and shoved you away. Then she ran back into one of the rooms. You took a deep breath and briskly walked up the stairs to Alcinas room. You stepped in front of it and took a deep breath, holding your things.
What if she screamed at you the second you went in? What if she killed you on sight?
Better yet, what if you got to see her?
You knocked on the door and then opened it a bit.
“Lady Dimitrescu, Celeste is indisposed and has sent me to clean your room,” you said before fully entering. Alcina was sitting at her vanity and turned to look at you. Clearly something was wrong. She slammed the phone down and nodded civilly.
“Go ahead Y/N.”
You walked in and started to make her bed. She was still breathing heavily from whatever phone conversation she had been having. You glanced over at her a couple of times then decided to risk speaking.
“Are you alright?” you asked, voice quiet. She turned to you and nodded stiffly.
“Mother Miranda asks a lot of us because she knows we can handle it,” she said proudly but there was a little bit of exhaustion in her voice.
“I don’t want to overstep, but I think maybe you deserve a break,” you said, putting her pillows down. She thought about it for a moment, staring at you. No one asked her how she was doing. Mother Miranda wanted to know how the girls were, how the experiments had gone.
“I’m perfectly fine thank you.” You nodded quickly.
“I mean, of course you are. I’m sorry.” You turned and started to wipe down the other things in her room .
Alcina watched as you worked.
“How did you end up in the village?” she asked. You were surprised she still wanted to talk to you. You thought you were dead.
“Well, I was trying to take a hike but I drove too far away and then went off the trails...somehow I ended up here,” you said honestly. She nodded a bit, formally like she had to be formal in front of you.
“I suppose you regret that now.”
“I wouldn’t say I regret it. Your home is beautiful. You and your daughters seem civil. It’s at least interesting.” She nodded a bit at your words.
“Thank you.” You smiled at her, holding your wash rag to your chest.
“Of course.” You quickly turned back and finished cleaning up the room. She let you move without any protest.
====
You were eating some of the food provided by the family when Celeste approached you. This confused you because usually she was cleaning while you were eating and vice versa.
“Lady Dimitrescu wants you to clean her room from now on.” She sounded a little antsy as she spoke. You stopped chewing.
“Really? Why?”
“I have no idea.” You nodded and put your food down.
“Then I should probably go now right?” you asked. She nodded and you stood up, brushing off your clothes. “Well then I’ll be upstairs if you need me. Oh and Daniella is in a mood so watch out for her.”
Celeste nodded and you walked up to Alcinas room. She was standing up, walking out onto the balcony. You weren’t sure you had ever seen her standing. She was quite tall. You tried not to let on your surprise.
You started to get to work without speaking to her but she interrupted you.
“Have you seen the view?” You looked up.
“No. No I haven’t.” She gestured for you to come out to the balcony. You walked outside and stood beside her, looking down at the village below. You hadn’t gotten a chance to see it well when you were done there, you were whisked away so quickly.
“Wonderful view isn’t it?” she asked. You nodded.
“It is actually.” You leaned over the edge a tad, looking at how high up you were. “This castle is so big.”
“It was my familys. I got it...before the girls,” she told you.
“Well I’m happy to keep it clean.” She laughed a bit. It was a hearty laugh, matching her voice perfectly, you couldn’t help but notice.
“I don’t think anyone’s ever been happy to clean the castle before.”
“Proud to be the first then Lady Dimitrescu.” You laughed as well, leaning against the stone.
“Alcina, please.” You smiled and nodded. She watched you, a smile on her face as you laughed and felt a swell in her heart. Quickly she recognized the feeling. Admiration.
She cleared her throat.
“You should get to it,” she said, all business once more. You nodded and turned back to her room.
====
Celeste died a couple of days later. New people came. New people died.
A couple of months in, you were starting to wonder why you were still alive. Everyone that came in as a maiden died except you and you couldn’t figure out for the life of you why. Not that you were complaining.
Cassandra approached you. You were pretty familiar with each of them, as they were with you. You were standing in the library, putting some books back. You had never seen any of the daughters read them, you thought.
“How come you’re still alive?” she asked, sitting down in one of the big chairs. You turned to her.
“I was just wondering the same thing.”
“Everyone else dies in a month, tops. Not you though. I keep asking mother and asking and asking and she keeps saying no,” Cassandra said.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Bela came into the room, materializing out of her bugs. “Mother has a crush on her.” Cassandra scoffs.
“Does mother even know what a crush is?”
“Oh sure. She has to, everyone does,” Daniela said, appearing as well. You were rarely in the room with all three of them.
“Do you like her?” Cassandra asked. All three of them turned to look at you. You were caught off guard.
“Uh I suppose so,” you muttered. Bela clapped her hands. “Sounds like a plan! Set her up with mother!” You shook your head.
“She’ll...she’ll crush me!” you whispered screamed. Cassandra rolled her eyes.
“You’ll live.”
====
Bela shoved you into Alcinas room. She was walking out of the bathroom. She raised her eyebrow at the sight of you.
“You aren’t usually here at this time,” she observed.
“Your daughters are standing outside the door with their ears pressed against it hoping that you admit your love for me,” you whispered nervously. She raised both eyebrows. She felt a put in her stomach at you speaking of her love so nonchalantly and then she realized that you truly didn’t believe them.
“Do you believe I’m in love with you?” she asked, amusingly. You cleared your throat nervously.
“I don’t know. I suppose you like me at least. I’ve gone through like three rotations of maidens,” you said. “But I would never assume that you would like me. You’re a goddess.”
She smiled and sat down on her vanity chair. You were almost eye to eye. She gestured for you to come forward and you did. She grabbed your hand and held it. Alcina took a deep breath.
“I do like you, more than I care to admit,” she said evenly. You realized after a second that she was waiting for you to respond.
“I like you too! A lot! You’re gorgeous and funny and...I love your house,” you admitted. She laughed.
“So it’s settled? You’ll stay?”
“I had a chance to go?” you asked in awe. She shrugged.
“I would have let you, had you asked. Do you...want to go?” You didn’t even have to think about it.
“No. I would like to stay.” She smiled brightly and nodded.
“Perhaps you could be more than a maiden, if that pleases you.” You nodded.
“It would. Although I don’t know if anyone else will clean to my standards,” you admitted. Alcina smiled.
“I’ll have the girls get you new clothing. You can be in charge of the maidens.” You nodded happily.
“That would be wonderful Alcina. You’re wonderful.” You paused for a moment, took a deep breath and kissed her. She was caught off guard and started to retract her nails but stopped quickly. When you pulled away you had her lipstick print on your lips. She pursed her lips and then smiled.
“You look wonderful.”
Bela fell through the door. Alcina stood up quickly, claws out in surprise.
“I told you not to lean on the door handle!” Cassandra hissed.
“It was Daniela!” Bela screeched standing. You supreseseed your laughter.
“Girls while you're here, why don't you go get Y/N some regular clothing yes?” Alcina suggested. They turned and nodded, smiles on their faces.
“We would love to!”
“Then go girls and leave us alone.”
The girls skipped away and Alcina smiled softly at you.

Note
I imagine that after the heated argument Alcin has with Heisenberg, he wants to reassure himself that he can pleasure his dear wife in the bed. So he takes her to their chamber to have some "alone time". Everything is alright until the fateful moment: the carnal union. And, problem: It doesn't want to enter. No changes of positions can solve the problem, it's closed. Alcin remember what Karl has told him and is super frustated and mad. Y/n tries her best to cheer him up though...
Awww, poor Alcin.

Interesting thing I just realized about the Four Lords & Miranda
So, we know that Resident Evil: Village takes place somewhere in Romania. You can tell because the currency in game is Liu, which is the real-life name of Romania’s currency. But when thinking about the Four Lords and Miranda, something struck me as odd. Namely, none of them seem to actually be directly of Romanian decent, at least based off their names. Let’s start with easiest origins to hardest.
Donna Beneviento: Although the surname does not seem like an actual surname (or at lest is not common enough to have been listed on sites like Behind the Name), the origins for both are definitely Italian in origin. Donna, though being a name mostly used in English, comes from the Italian word for “lady”. While Beneviento could come from a few places. For one, it could be taken from a city in Italy called Benevento. Second, it could be a combination of the Italian word for good “bene” and the Spanish word for wind “viento”. And finally, the surname also sounds similar to “benvenuto” an Italian word meaning welcome. Another note is her mother’s name, Claudia. Although the name is used in many different countries, it is included as being both Romanian and Italian. Heck, the name is even pronounced the same between the two (KLOW-dya rather than the English KLAW-dee-ə). This could mean that Donna’s mother was either a village native or a foreigner like presumably her father. Angie is a very similar case. Though the name Angie itself is more of a specifically English name, it is a shortened form of Angela, a name that does again appear in both Italian and Romanian. But for the most part here, all roads lead to Rome(an Italy).
Karl Heisenberg: While the name Karl can come from a a good many places, based on his surname I’d say he’s German. “Heisen” likely comes from the German word “heißen”, meaning to call. Meanwhile, “berg”, meaning mountain, is a common word used in Germanic surnames. Though, to be fair, the reasonings behind the surname could also be aplied to Norwegian as well. But I doubt a surname would uses the word for “the elevator” in it. So yeah, I’d say it’s safe to say he’s German.
Miranda: Since she doesn’t have a surname to worry about, that means we’ve only got to worry about her on a first name basis. Miranda is a name that can be found in both English and Dutch. Now, I can’t be quite sure which side of that to pin her down as. Hell, even the name Eva doesn’t help much as it’s found all over the fucking place. My best guess would be that she leans more towards English decent, but either or could go.
Salvatore Moreau: Here is where we get into the trickier ones. Now, Salvatore, at least based on the spelling, is the Italian variation of Salvador. However, we never got a pronunciation of the name (at least to my knowledge) so it could be either “sal-va-TO-reh” or “sal-va-TOR”, which if it was the later would make the name more similar to a Late Roman version of the name, Salvator (note the lack of terminal e). Though, one other thing to note is that apparently during certain periods of the 1900′s, it was also a relatively popular French name. Thankfully, Moreau is the one surname of the four that actually shows up on Behind the Name. It’s listed as a French diminutive of the Late Roman name Maurus. Based on all that, I would guess that he’s probably French. Frog legs, yum.
Alcina Dimitrescu: Now this is where we truly enter Village of Shadows difficulty here. For one, Alcina is a name that originated in theater, specifically from an opera of the same name. Although the name is sometimes attributed as a feminine version of the Greek Alcinous. Her last name’s origin is not better. Her name comes from “Dimitr” the Slavic rendering of Demeter with the  Romanian patronym, “escu”. On top of all that, in-game, the name is pronounced as if it were French. Her daughter’s names aren’t much help either. Bela, based on how it’s spelled, is either Georgian, Spanish, or Portuguese, Cassandra is English, French, and Greek, and Daniela is all over the place. So, my best guess is that Alcina is either Greek, Slavic, or is actually the only household that actually has any amount of Romanian decent.
“So what?” I hear you ask. “It’s an RE game, it’s not like any of this is actually important.” But there is another aspect I’d like to point out. And that is the names of the other villagers. All of them are Romanian names. Even Elena’s last name, Lupu, is a Romanian surname. So this does beg the question, just why and how did four families find their way to a middle of nowhere village in Romania and establish themselves as the fore-founders of it?

Summary: Lady Dimitrescu discovers Ethan, another Dimitrescu Daughter falls, and you face the cruel decision of who you must choose to side with and ultimately save
Tumblr media
I tried to scream, unable to let any sound out as the hand stayed tight over my mouth. The other arm wrapped around me, basically picking me up and dragging my flailing form out as Alcina grieved.
Finally, the heel of one of my flailing feet landed in the attackers leg, forcing them to drop me as they shouted out in pain.
"Hey! Thanks for such a warm 'glad to see you alive' welcome!" Ethan griped, rubbing his shin where the tip of the heel had cut him.
"Ethan! I didn't know it was you!" I whisper-shouted back, listening for anyone approaching.
"Yeah, well, now you do. Lets go, you and me are getting out of here." Ethan grabbed my wrist, trying to drag me off.
"Uh, hey, woah there. What are you doing?" I asked, shoving his hand off of me.
"I just said we're leaving. We need to find a way out of here."
"I can't just leave, Ethan." I immediately regretted my statement. That's not going to go across well.
"Why not?"
"It's hard to explain." Trying to reason with him got me nowhere as he interrogated me.
"No, tell me. I bet I can understand. Try me."
"I don't want to talk about it, Ethan!" I tried not to shout. I huffed out a sigh as he stayed silent. I was hopeful that he'd just drop it already. But he didn't. Opening his mouth to speak, we both froze at the fast approach of clicking heels.
"You, you stupid manthing." Alcina hissed out, claws extending from her hand in long blades. Her cheeks were tear-stained, and I knew the only thought on her mind was killing Ethan.
Grabbing my wrist once again, Ethan began sprinting away with me barely keeping up. I didn't even have a chance before Alcina's eyes widened as she registered my presence. I couldn’t even imagine what she thought my involvement in this was…
It didn't take very long at all, really, for Ethan to lose her. Down the stairs, past faceless statues, and through a door. Alcina somehow lost us instantly.
My mind raced, wondering what she was thinking. How she perceived me, being dragged away by Ethan. Did she think I was on his side.
All thoughts in my head halted at the sound of a familiar voice. I spun around, a smile breaking out on my face.
"Duke! I didn't think I'd see you again!" I exclaimed, laughing and approaching where he had set himself up.
"Oh my dear of course I'll always be around where there's some trading to do!" He said in his loud, warm voice before his features faltered, "Ah, and I see why you're here. Lady Dimitrescu has taken quite a liking to you, hasn't she."
"Yeah, something like that."
"I'm sorry, what is that supposed to mean?" Ethan asked, glancing between me and the Duke.
"Mr. Winters, it simply means Lady Dimitrescu has acquired a taste for our friends blood. I can only imagine the reason she even left you alive." The Duke explained. Part of me wondered how many before me suffered a similar fate, being drained. Another part of me wondered if anyone had ever been drained and not killed like Alcins had done with me.
"Why couldn't you have told me that? What did she do?" Ethan asked me, turning his attention to me now.
"I don't want to talk about it right now, Ethan. And I'd really rather not discuss it with you." I maintained as I sat on the pile of pillows.
The silence in the room was thick. Whatever reason Ethan had for being upset, I don't know. But he had more than a stranger to worry about.
"Ethan why don't you let me take care of her for a little while. Give her more time to rest and regain her strength. It isn't the easiest task in the world to be drained like that and then get up and keep going." The Duke reasoned before he and Ethan began to barter.
Giving Ethan a wave goodbye, I watched as he left with his newly purchased nonsense. I lay back on the pile of pillows, closing my eyes and listening to the ticking of the clock snd the occasional flip of a page from the Duke reading.
My mind started to race again. Alcina. Being so close to freedom, I yearned to be free. To get away from her. But at the same time I wanted to be near her, I couldn't bring myself to just let her suffer as Ethan ran around killing her daughters and likely her too.
Deciding that I needed a distraction, and some answers. I turned my attention to the Duke. I for sure wouldn't be able to talk to Alcina about my questions anymore.
"Duke. How is it that she drained me, honestly probably a couple hours ago, and now I feel fine? Honestly just a little lightheaded and that's it."
"Well, she likely slipped you something while you were out. Something to rejuvenate you, force your body to make more blood. I could make some if I had the ingredients, but really I only have ingredients for the concoction that healed you on the outside." The Duke explained, talking to himself a tiny bit after about all the ingredients he lacked to make anything.
I remembered the blue and green bottles of liquid she had brought into the room, trying to decide which of the two did what. I didn't remember them being used on me obviously.
"Duke, another thing. Do you have pants? I don't have any Lei, but I'm sure I can find some around here." I tried to persuade the Duke, watching him contemplate my words.
"Well... Lets put this on your tab, then. I do want to help, by any means I can of course." The Duke said as he shuffled through all that he had.
Eventually he pulled several pairs of pants, shoes, shirts, and tourist jackets out. I looked through what he had, trying to decide what would best fit me.
"I'll take these ones, I think they'll work great." I said with a smile, watching as he put the rest away. The Duke pulled a curtain in front of himself, concealing him from one side to the next. I hadn't even noticed it.
Quickly getting dressed, I messed with the clothes until I found a way that they fit me well enough to be comfortable. The shoes were a little loose, but not majorly inconvenient or uncomfortable. Letting the Duke know I was done, he pulled the curtain back once more.
"I don't suppose you're attached to the dress Lady Dimitrescu gave you, are you? The fabric looks to be of very high quality and could easily pay for the clothes I've just given you."
I looked to the dress in my hand, hesitating. I swallowed hard, angry at myself for growing so attached in such a short amount of time. Handing the dress to him, I watched the Duke inspect it as he talked to himself about the fabric and its wonderful qualities.
Taking a step back from him, I looked around the room before pausing. Why was I in here? Sure, at first I was resting up a little. But I feel completely fine!
"If Ethan comes back before me, tell him that I'm... taking a look around." I told the Duke, waving goodbye and leaving before he could get a word out.
The castle was silent, my footsteps seeming even louder in the silence. Somewhere, distantly, I could hear fighting. Gunshots rang out, echoing off the walls from wherever they came from.
Swallowing the nervous lump in my throat, I walked up the grand staircase, following the curve of the rail with my hand. The gunshots were closer.
I quickly decided against going after them, retreating back down the grand staircase. Walking through the large double doors, I found myself in the dining room once more. The door to the kitchen barely hung by its hinges
I knew what was over there. Instead, I walked to the other double doors on the other side of the table. With a good shove, the doors opened and my body was flooded with cold. Stepping out into the cold, the wind pulled the doors shut behind me with a forceful slam sending snow around my feet flying.
The wind was off and on, not moving the snow too much. But just enough that when it did, your only choice was being blind.
So I blindly made my way across the courtyard, feeling my way around until I found myself by another door. Normal sized, and not a double door this time around. Going inside, I stood for a moment in the dark. Mostly relishing in the lack of the cold, frigid wind, but I was also listening.
Footsteps, gunshots, anything. Anything to tell me it wasn't safe. But I heard none of it. Continuing up the winding stairs, I realized where I was. I could make it to the washroom and back to Lady Dimitrescu's bedroom from here, this is where her daughters first found me.
My thoughts were very quickly interrupted at the sound of giggling. Someone said my name, singing it in a teasing way. Daniela.
"Oh there you are, sweet-smelling thing. Didn't you know Mother's looking for you? She's very unhappy with you." Her voice rang out, seemingly having no specific source as the swarm of bugs surrounded me. Before long, she was physically in front of me.
She suddenly extended her sickle, pressing the tip into my sternum as she backed me up. Tilting her head, she smiled as she put pressure behind the blade and she raised her other hand to push me by my shoulder.
Landing against the wall with a wince, I pressed my hand into my sternum. I could feel the cut and the tiny bead of blood that now trailed down my chest. Daniela laughed at my reaction, and I watched as she brought the sickle to her mouth and licked off the minuscule amount of blood on the blade.
Her eyes rolled back and she let out an almost ecstatic moan, tipping her head back before saying, "No wonder Mother didn't let us drain you the way we wanted to. We wouldn't have had the restraint to keep you alive."
"Don't you dare touch me." I spat at her, reaching nearby and grabbing what I could. A pathetic lamp.
"Oh you don't get a choice anymore, silly. And you don't get Mother's protection." Daniela smiled, making a show of how slowly she started walking to me. Her sickle was ready to dig into me.
Taking a deep breath, I quickly raised the lamp above my head. Too far clearly as the window behind me shattered.
Daniela screamed out in pain, running and screaming, "Cheater! You cheated, it's not fair!" as she did.
I almost collapsed as I finally exhaled, not realizing I had held my breath. For a moment, the only sound to be heard was the wind. Until the gunshots returned.
Stumbling over my feet and almost tripping completely, I ran after them and burst through a door at the top of the grand staircase as I did.
Before I knew what was happening, Ethan came flying out of nowhere with what looked like a statue torso tucked under his arm. I wasn't sure how he tucked his pistol one handed, but he had. With his now free hand, he grabbed my wrist and started to drag me behind him.
"No time to explain! I will later!" Was all he shouted. And then I saw her.
Alcina was hot on our trail. Fury behind her eyes, still red from the tears shed for her daughter.
"How dare you!? I bring you into my home! Under my protection, with my love! And this is what you do to me?! You betrayed me!" Alcina screamed after me as Ethan bolted down the stairs with me in tow, making a beeline for the Duke's room. The sound of scratching along wood was heard as Alcina continued, "Well I'm not letting you get away from me, Pet! You'll pay for this!"
Ethan practically threw me into the Duke's room and ran in after me, out of Alcina's sight. I lay on the floor, out of breath, in pain. Physically and emotionally for some reason.
I didn't mean to betray her, I really didn't. I didn't even choose for Ethan to take me away from her in the first place when he killed Bela!
"Ah, this must be the late Cassandra Dimutrescu. Valuable material." I shot up from my place on the floor, watching as Ethan handed over the torso he had been lugging along.
That's what happened to Bela. It'll happen to Daniela. And Alcina.
My mouth felt dry as the storm I had been ignoring in my head started to grow. I needed to decide, I couldn't play both sides. Ethan Winters and his quest to find his daughter. Or Alcina, which also meant Mother Miranda and the Cadou she had created for me.
