is anyone else like super comforted by EAS alerts or sirens or old radio broadcasts? everyone i know thinks im weird for it, and everyone i feel like is horrified of them, and it causes them anxiety. that's normal. i don't blame anyone for that. i just don't understand why.
ever since i can remember, the sounds of EAS alerts for like amber alerts, weather advisories, etc., always comforted me. i would be trying to sleep at night and the tv in my parents room would start beeping and buzzing eerily, followed by the staticky quick robotic talking of a reporter, ended with more beeping. and my sister would run to my parents' room crying, scared by the alarm, and i'd think her meek and foolish, being just a small child myself, because i would close my eyes to the sound and it was almost like the sensation i'd imagine a baby would get, being held by its mom during such distress, grounded, small, and safe. sometimes it would lull me to sleep. and i remember being ten, too, and i was always so stressed. and when i was trying to relax or focus on a hobby or homework i'd often go to youtube and play, like, sirenhead sounds? and my sister would cry and tell me to turn it off because they were scary, and i was upset because i really liked them. and it wasn't in a weird way, or anything, but the sounds always felt like a safe space, even though they usually indicated danger. like the sound of rain on a roof. similarly, i've always felt the same way about tornado sirens and old radio broadcasts and morse code recordings. there's this one 1947 news broadcast on the ufo crash in roswell followed by the results of a un council meeting. the man reporting has a choppy transatlantic accent covered mostly by static, and the beginning of the broadcast begins with a series of rhythmic, morse code sort of beeps. it's a wonderful sound and it makes me calm and happy. i like listening to old broadcasts and siren sounds.
im not even just particularly fond of sounds. i have autism and misophonia and im super sensitive to a lot of various/specific sounds, and other than my examples above, no other sound makes me feel calm and joyful like this. does anyone else feel this way? or is it something that must be inherently feared?

Had enough of iPhone alarms giving me a heart attack every morning so I decided to PAY MONEY FOR MUSIC I ALREADY HAD ACCESS TO THROUGH APPLE MUSIC and chose Kokomo by the Beach Boys as my alarm.
Next morning, I still jump 5 inches off the bed when my phone BLASTS KOKOMO AT FULL VOLUME!
Why, for the love of everything unholy, WHY CAN YOU NOT ADJUST ALARM VOLUME ON IPHONE?????
Like, pleaseeeee!!! I just want to wake up at a decent time every morning without shaking Death’s hand real quick the moment I open my eyes!!! PLEASE????

Two of these are song references. One is an outlier and not a reference. If you can correctly guess which is an outlier first try (in DMs or asks so others can play), I'll draw you a simple sketch of whatever you like. If you can also correctly guess the two songs referenced, I will draw you TWO sketches. Get guessing <3

Ok I need to know if I'm the only one who absolutely HATES school bells (the ones that ring when you have to change classes). It's literally terrifying when one rings right next to me when I'm not expecting it. Or just in general in the hallways.

This is the second time in my life I’ve had to call 911. We woke up this morning to the fire alarm going off in our suite. Once we finally got it silenced we realized it was going off in the entire building. A few of the neighbours said they could smell smoke, so everyone(almost everyone) began evacuating and waited outside in a torrential downpour. Those of us that have cars waited in them.
As nice as it was to meet some of our neighbours, this was not the way to do it.
This is when we found our landlord needs to present a fire evacuation plan to tenants, and run drills at least once a year. No one knew what to do. Some people just sat on their balconies, some went for a walk, others stood right next to the building. No one knew where the muster points were, honestly, none of us were looking for them on a map as we tried to herd our kids out into the rain at 1am. This is also why they need to crackdown on tenants smoking inside the building. That was the smoke everyone could smell, and the storm is why we were standing in the rain at 1am. If this were a real fire, it would have been a disaster.
I’d like to thank the Winnipeg Fire Department for their quick response and ensuring it was safe for us to return to our apartments.

To everyone who has seen that post about security guards and what an accurate heist movie would look like cause guards just don’t care ™️
I was struggling to find a job and a friend of mine offered to talk to her parents who run a security guard company. They brought me in and gave me the job. I am an small 18 year old female who wouldn’t be able to hold my own in a fight for shit. They don’t care, they just don’t put me down for shifts at the bar sites we have.
I am currently working a site at a warehouse where the workers are printing and binding books and whatnot. I don’t really know, and I don’t particularly care. My job is to check people’s IDs as they come in to make sure only the people who are meant to be here are entering and do the occasional bag check.
Now, I work night shifts (11pm-7am weekdays 7pm-7am Saturday night) I am 10 minutes into my shift and an alarm is going off. My reaction? To look up for all of five seconds then go back to my phone. I continued reading for about two minutes before starting this post. Some workers checked it out and are going to call fire department to sort it. But me? The security guard? I don’t give a shit.
In short security guards generally just Don’t Care ™️
