some people on here need a gentle reminder that arospecs ARE aromantic. thats the point of the aromantic spectrum. that being aromantic.. is a spectrum. ive had demiromantic people ask me if they can call themselves aromantic. YES OF COURSE YOU CAN YOU ARE AROMANTIC. im sure some people choose to identify more as arospec than aromantic and thats fine, but in general, arospecs ARE aromantic, by virtue of being on the aromantic spectrum. like aromanticism is defined as little to none romantic attraction. the ‘little’ part of that is there for a reason.

A very Happy Valentine's Day to any ace, aro, aroace, gray, demi, cupio, abro, quio, placio, akoi, fray and everyone else on the asexual/aromantic spectrum reading this!
Maybe we don't love in the "normal" way, but we're not lonely or broken or cold unfeeling robots. We still love in our own way and are worthy of love!

Aromantic Flag History
With all the arophobes coming out of the woodworks, I want to share some aromantic history to hopefully brighten your day.
The first use of the term "aromantic" appeared in an AVEN thread in June of 2005. A couple years later, a flag was created by the National Coalition for Aromantic Visibility. It looked like this:
Tumblr media
Green symbolized aromanticism, as green is the opposite of red, and red is sometimes seen as a symbol of romance. Yellow represented platonic love. Orange represented lithromanticism, and black represented anyone who fell under the greyromantic range.
At some point, the aromantic community decided it was time for a change, and thus came the second flag. Created by Cameron Whimsy, this one looks a lot more familiar to the one we see nowadays:
Tumblr media
The two greens represent the spectrum of aromantic identities, yellow represents friendship, and grey and black represent the spectrum of sexual identities in the aromantic community.
While this flag wasn't as widely used as the first, it laid the groundwork for the one we'd come to know and love today. At some point, it was pointed out that the yellow stripe caused sensory issues for some individuals, and as such, it was changed to white.
And now we have the modern aromantic flag we all love! Thanks for reading!

So, I was thinking about the Disastrous Life of Saiki K. and the dynamic between Saiki and Teruhashi. And I just think it’s interesting. How out of all the characters in the manga/anime, Teruhashi is only ever romantically interested in the one guy who she knows isn’t romantically interested in her. And it’s implied that the reason Teruhashi developed a crush on Saiki in the first place is because of his lack of interest in her, not in spite of said lack of interest.
It’s almost as though she only feels romantic attraction when she knows it won’t be reciprocated. What a neat character trait!
Haha anyways, for completely unrelated reasons, here’s a picture of Teruhashi in front of a pretty orange-y colour palette :)

Amy: I'm proud to identify as Lithromantic. I'm attracted to people who don't like me or can't like me back. A guy told me he was aromantic asexual the other day and now I dream of kissing him under the moonlight
That same guy: yeah, maybe you can cool it with the mushy stuff? Anyway, anybody wanna race?
Amy with heart eyes: Sonic, never change

As an akioromantic person I appreciate fictional characters because I CAN fall in love with them without worrying about whether or not they are also on the aro/ace spectrum and if they would think it's weird how much I love them but don't want the feelings reciprocated. Alice Dyer? Beautiful woman whom I adore and I don't even have to worry about real romantic feelings. Camilla Carmine? Adore that lady but again I can just quietly do so without worrying about anything beyond how much i love her. it's wonderful

am i aro if i like the idea of being in a relationship and try to get into them but when i do i don’t like? or do i have commitment issues…
i love the idea of being with a person than actually being with them. and i want a relationship but in reality i HATE them
this is so common, there's more than a few labels i've seen for it over the years. i think, for one, akoiromantic / lithromantic, bellusromantic, and aroflux/arospike can be useful terms for people who feel similarly. not all of these will apply to you, but i figured that given the reach of this blog, it could still help someone. a good resource for finding some of these terms and definitions is AUREA's glossary, found here.

[image description: six arrow images comprised of rows of crosses, akin to cross stitch. The arrow has a grey head, a long shaft coloured in two shades of tan and five stripes of fletching radiating outward in diagonal lines from the shaft. The arrow sits atop a black or dark grey background and is outlined in white. The fletching on each arrow is coloured to match one of six different pride flags: abro (mint green/light mint green/white/light pink/pink), aroflux (pink-red/coral/yellow/light green/green), cupioromantic (coral/light coral/white/lavender/grey), frayromantic (dark grey/light grey/white/cyan/blue), greyromantic (green/grey/white/grey/green) and lith / akoi (red/orange/yellow/white/black).]

Please help , I don't know why or how but I suddenly lost feelings for this guy
We had a class together and then we started texting each other a lot over the summer , and I liked him. I was interested and I found out he was interested but as soon as we get in a relationship I feel like I'm not interested anymore? Like I was gushing over his texts and super happy messaging him , but now I feel nothing. We got in a relationship today , this morning I was into him and now I'm not interested.
I always wanted a relationship but do I just like the idea of a relationship?
I didn't think I was on the aromantic spectrum but now I don't know.
I don't know why I lost feelings for him and now I feel bad.
Is this something in the arospec?
Howdy! Mod Amaranth here
This sounds fairly akoiromantic to me, if that's what you're looking for!
You shouldn't feel bad for losing feelings, anon. Feelings are weird and complicated, and really what you can control are your actions. What matters is the steps you take from here.
It's possible that yes, you liked the idea of a relationship better than actually having one. But that's probably something for you to have to figure out yourself, unfortunately.
Best of luck, anon!
Hope this helps! <2
