Idle curiousity: Is it negotiations that determine who gets a picture featured where in convention promotions? Because in Burbank, for example, Mark Sheppard has been in much more SPN and I've met him frequently at cons. He was frequently featured in the show's promotions. Yet I see that JDM is in the banner in a more prominent spot than everyone, plus Mark is not given a picture at all. To SPN outsiders, JDM might be more widely known (based on imdb stats) but Mark also brings multi franchises.

My experience is the promotional pictures are entirely up to the convention owners/organizers based on what they think will bring them money.

10/16/2015 - Creation Entertainment advertises the upcoming Chicago con with Jensen and Misha and the AKF tagline in their main banner.  Fandom’s outrage forced them to take down the Jensen/Misha banner three days later and replaced it with a Jared/Jensen banner.

02/11/2016 - Jensen and Misha launch the YANA campaign with series of videos filmed on SPN set and lines written by SPN writers.

Conclusion: YANA was a bust and memory holed.

In the recent content we’ve seen of him he looks happy and healthy so hopefully he’s taking care of himself as well.

Thank you for sharing your celebration, anon! Jared's truly been an inspiration to so many. Every convention weekend, there are stories from those he's supported and inspired through his willingness to destigmatize mental health and encourage everyone to Always Keep Fighting. His support for each person, and for the greater community through national campaigns is truly appreciated.

And for those who continue to fight and the people in their lives who support them... you are the true heroes!

Part II

I am back to answer the rest of the two questions related to Jensen and the prequel gate...

About my views on Jensen... Early on, especially when I started following con panels and attended two myself. I became Jared girl, Jensen, for me, was an accessory. He was just like any actor, nothing special. When I met him, I knew instantly that though it is an informal event, it is all business for him. Now, it wouldn't have meant much because I am used to actors' behavior, but for me, the behavior stood out coz I had just met Jared, who was the big ball of energy. So meeting Jensen immediately after Jared was like someone sucked the energy out. This is exactly why, for the next day, I kept Jared at the last because I wanted to end my day with the positivity.

So I didn't mind Jensen as he didn't come across as rude or insulting like Misha, nor was he amiable like Jared. He was just like any actor.

For me, the first red flag came during AKF and YANA debacle, which is when I realised that Jensen is not how he appears to be. He is very calculative and shrewd. He supported YANA despite knowing it was a blatant copy for AKF. Still, I said fine you launch YANA. There is no copyright on supporting MH more the support better it is. BUt, Misha and Jensen were totally insincere with the campaign. They didn't take efforts to understand the gravity of the situation nor gave any thoughts on how the campaign was being presented. It was clear that YANA was nothing but a money minting project for M, Jensen, and CW. The worst was when the campaign failed, Jensen bailed, leaving Misha alone to take the fall. He didn't have balls to stand up for the project that was supposedly important to him. The moment it failed, he went. Nope, I wasn't interested in it, I just did it to help M. Everything was M's idea.

Since then, I started doubting Jensen intentions and didn't believe a word he said. I realise that he is opportunist. The moment he sees profit into something, he latches to it. Not only that, but even in terms of putting effort, he does the bare minimum, but when it comes to appreciation, he is first to take credit.

My doubts were confirmed with Prequelgate. At first, the sheer unprofessionalism was appalling, but I thought there might be some miscalculation. He won't stan Jared immediately after the end of the show. But that illusion broke when Kripke tweeted, apologizing Jared and stating that he assumed Jensen must have informed Jared. It proved that whatever Jensen did was intentional. He always wanted to own the SPN brand. I think somewhere it always hurt Jensen that despite being senior in the craft, it was Jared, a conparatively young actor who got the lead. Jared was always in the forefront when it came to media attention. If you have time, then just compare the kind of media that gave coverage to Jared and Jensen and the amount of time they do it, at least during SPN. Jared, with his extrovert attitude, is mainstream media fave. So I feel it was deliberate. He was to slyly make the brand for himself, and he knew he would lose Jared's fan if he told the truth. So he lied about Jared. When he was called out, like a coward, he once again ran and hid.

What is the worst was the MR podcast that showed the world hus true face. Instead of apologizing, he tried to shift the blame on Jared. Which was the dick move and then his constant lying and changing the reason as to why he didn't inform Jared. It was when I lost all the respect for him. In fact, according to me, at that point, he seemed worse than Musha. With Misha, we knew what to expect, but Jensen pretended to be a friend/brother and then backstabbed the said brother. Such people are the worst.

Post prequelgate, Jensen behavior came to light. Things that were ignored becoz his association with Jared came to like. It became quiet telling how Jensen never supported Jared. How he never asked his fans not to hate on Jared PS, immediately after prequelgat Jared actually asked fans not to hate Jensen. Jensen never extended the same courtesy. In fact, he piled on to the hate by making sparky comments. He would always diss Jared. How he never took ant effort to make Jared feel special, not even during his birthday. How he always used Jared and then dissed him from everything . How he would steal Jared's jokes and ideas and pass it as his own.

Infact, now when I look back I feel Jensen always tried to one up Jared. See, everything that he has done it is immediately after Jared. Jared shifted to Austin and bought a house with open field and stuff, Jensen immediately shifted to Austin and bought the house at the lake front. Jared entered pub business with San Jac salon and curated an alcohol with Stephen, Jensen started FBBC. PS: Jensen had zero idea about beer , nor did he bother to learn about it. Unlike Jared, who studied the entire market. Gen started her influencer journey, Dannel tried to copy it and, when she failed, resorted to dissing Gen like a child. Jared and Gen got into production, and so did Jensen and D. He has always copied Jared. Even now, Jensen is trying to copy Jared's long hair look. Over the year, he has seen how Jared long hair look has been appreciated, so he is now trying to copy it. He couldn't do it earlier because producers and directors didn't allow him to. Now we know why they did, Jensen looks like cheap motel pimp.

Are you sure about that anon? You have not said a single even remotely nice thing about Jared. You claim its just his fans you hate but you seem to be holding a lot of rage for the Pads. You have dragged everything about them and no, tacking on "nothing wrong with that" every time you drag them doesn't change your intent (which is loud and clear to everyone anon).

And where does JARED do those things anon?? Gen's whole schtick is mom/lifestyle brand. SHE does ads and on occasion the fam is in them but that's it. The kids aren't even in them as much as they get older. She used to be a mommy blogger, so yea, her family was part of what she talked about. Now its more lifestyle/books/going green/etc vs just family stuff.

Show me an ad involving Jared recently anon. Gen and Jared POSTING about each other is not automatically an ad, no matter what you have convinced yourself of anon. I'm looking through Gen's ig now and the posts with Jared are just family pics celebrating bdays, etc. He's in a few of her book posts but that's promoting her book club, not an ad. Seriously though anon, show me ads with Jared (and not from years ago). He's on her account on a few book club posts (because he also read the books and was in the discussions), he's in some of the posts she makes about work (a few con posts and a handful of Walker posts), other than that its just her posting the family or their trips. I went through all of her 2023 posts and that's what he was in.

His account he has promoted Walker, a few random cons, and his Stands campaigns (for AKF which is a charity anon). Should he not promote his show or charity??

So anon, before you start performatively yelling about "THE PADS DO ALL ADS ALL THE TIME" maybe just, I don't know, check yourself??

And the difference between the Pads and the Ackles and money are a couple fold but lets just go for some basics since you seem extremely mad at the Pads for this whole thing anon. Gen (I will talk about her because she's really the only one selling things from the Pads even though anon likes to generalize) makes her little promo ad vids and posts and shares links for a percentage off and if you buy the products using her link she gets some money (she has actually said that the money she makes from these ads goes into TOWWN so she's using it to sustain her passion project, not just to line her pockets). She is not forcing you to buy things in order to interact with her or Jared. The Pads actually still interact with fans on sm from time to time just because. The Ackles basically all but ignore their fans unless money is involved. You want to see Jensen at a "concert"? Better get ready to bust into your savings because those $700 tickets aren't cheap. Want to "run into" them at FBBC? Don't worry, that only costs $1,000 for their "membership" which basically only guarantees you meet Jensen for a quick photo op like its a con (they legit had a photographer at the members only party and Jensen stayed in the back and only interacted with fans during those ops minus a wave here or there). The Pads (aka Gen) makes ads for stuff and you can take it or leave it. The Ackles have monetized themselves.

Well thank you for quite the ask here Anon, I appreciate you advocating for me here. I am going to say that both of you actually have made some good points here and also some not so correct points. What the other Anon was talking about with the ads on Gen's page is that her page is mostly full of ads. I myself asked with the cake post made a few days AFTER Odette's birthday and I think on Tom's actual birthday "is this about Odette's "cake dreams" coming true or an ad for that specific cake company [thewhittexperience]?" Also, the book club talk about the Daniel Kraus book "Whale Fall" with the author himself and surprise, Jared with the potential for a Meet and Greet back in October could be perceived as an "ad" that was using Jared to get more people interested in what's primarily Gen's book club.

Most of Gen's posts on her public page are as you said Anon, affiliate commission type of partnerships. Also, on another note I keep seeing ads for Jared's Always Keep Fighting attire on Instagram, which I can't blame Jared but I will say that people have been criticizing the Pads for years talking about them both being walking advertisements. Now, I've read from other followers on here things about "branding" and celebrities and whatnot. This isn't too far off the mark with what I think Gen is trying to do with her social media presence, establishing her "brand" as an environmentally conscious homestead type of individual who cares about the environment. Jared's "brand" happens to be Always Keep Fighting and talking about depression, anxiety, etc. Now as for Gen, her "brand" and her approach to it could also on the flip side here be perceived as also promoting consumerism while claiming to be environmentally friendly and "green" (two pretty conflicting philosophies admittedly). She did admit to being a bit hypocritical when she had chosen to get breast implants at the age of 40 per this video post she made during the Bathroom Chronicles Episode 11 podcast. She ultimately had them removed after she realized she started having issues running no more than 2 miles and then developed some joint pains within 6-8 months after getting the implants. She's 43 today so she had them put in 3 years ago, fairly recent if you ask me.

As for the Ackles, I would say that for the FBBC membership fees I personally feel like this is more of a Gino thing than a Jensen thing to be quite frank. I think that he is probably being dragged into doing these said meet and greets at FBBC to bring in more money for the otherwise doing poorly business. I mean, they had to shutdown production at the FBBC main location but still have 1 other location where they do the actual brewing. Rumor has it that they let go of several staff members from various departments not just the brewers back in December. This post here is one where a brewer informed people he was being laid off in January from FBBC, due to no longer producing beer at the main location. The topic of FBBC and how it's showing many signs it's doing poorly is a whole different ballpark but it is my understanding it is mainly being run by Danneel's brother Gino these days. There are also some crazy fans that show up to FBBC looking for Jensen (looking at you Jensensgroupie). This isn't excusing Jensen's hiding in the back when fans were promised some interaction time with Jensen. It's like I said however, in this particular instance I would say this is an obligation thing to merely keep FBBC afloat which seems to be a main source of income outside of cons for Jensen...

Overall, I think in ways both the Padaleckis and the Ackles "sell themselves" out to fans. However, given the number of "out in the wild" photos I've seen both Jensen and Jared willingly and happily (at least seemingly) take with fans at times, I can't entirely agree with either notion that the Pads and/or the Ackles will only interact with fans if it means they get money out of it or if it means exposure/"content" if you will. I frankly have no interest in participating in the Jensen versus Jared battle that's ongoing, it just goes round and round the hamster wheel and we'll learn nothing new or gain anything from the conversation.

Misha uses his platform to raise money for his activism primarily.

Stands and Gish both funnel money to good causes. Stands site even says that they recommend donating direct to the charity of your choice to ensure they get 100%.

That said, people want merch, people want to have fun and do good at the same time. Normal merch sites donate 0% or very little. Stands is a minimum 10% plus whatever actor/artist agrees to distribute. Some choose 100%. It provides a model to help people get something from their charity, which is why so many other celebrities participate.

The model helps both artists and actors to help good causes (like queer charities) but also is an income stream in an notoriously unstable career (many aren't super rich celebs).

Misha also donates 100% profits for some initiatives like the cookbook.

He is not perfect but i think he tries very hard to balance his need to earn a living and also do good.

Similarly Jared also tries to contribute a little of Mantra profits, i think about 2%, to charity. Lots of cast members also participate in other fund raising and awareness activities (e.g. bad idea tour). Misha is a driving force behind many of them.

Hate him if you like, but please consider all the aspects.

i will be honest with you i don't know or care how much stands donates. i just find it interesting how you have sooooo much to say about misha being a Good Person Who Donates To Charity but when it comes to jared, you mention only 2% from mantralabs going to charity instead of... you know. akf. or all the work he does for outyouth in austin. you know, the bulk of his campaigning for mental health and queer people. your bias is really clear from the content of your ask.

i don't care how much misha donates to charity. donating to charity doesn't inherently make you a good person just because of that. what i do care about is misha's long-standing habit of lying to his fans to make money, KNOWING stands merch sells more when he does so. he had gay cas merch ready to go the second 15.18 aired. he had bi merch ready to go the second he lied about being bisexual. this man cares more about money than any cause. and all of this isn't even touching his history of making jensen uncomfortable on purpose, twisting facts about jared to make himself look like a victim, all while pretending to be friends with them. this doesn't change anything about him being a creep towards underage fans, being an asshole to people who PAY to see him at autos, all the insensitive tweets he's made just to be Funny On The Internet and then dropped a basic ass apology for when he gets called out. this doesn't change anything about the disgusting af comments he makes about "topping" jensen, or his absolute lack of boundaries with fandom (posting ao3 links? really misha?). it doesn't change anything about how he KNOWS what his fans are like, the toxicity and abusive behavior and suicide baiting that they gleefully indulge in the second someone doesn't agree that destiel is the greatest thing to happen to queer people since stonewall, and yet he doesn't discourage them. y'all love bringing up his charity work and going all "be a misha" and "we're all one big ess pee enn family!" when it benefits you, but won't acknowledge all the disgusting things he's done.

charity work alone doesn't make someone a good person. that man is not a decent human being. it's about time y'all stopped trying to make excuses for him.

Hello, I’m sorry if this gets a bit long. I’ll try to edit it down once I’m done

So, I’m not saying this to downplay its importance to fans or Jared’s truly wanting to help people, but Jared was also very smart to come out with the Always Keep Fighting campaign, no? I could be talking out of my ass I this, because I wasn’t in the fandom at the time, but as well as being brave to share his anxiety/depression with fans, it also seems smart to share it on his own terms before it could be used against him. I think I’ve read on your blog that actors with MHI are often considered a liability to a production because if they “lose it” or walk off of the project, the higher ups are screwed. But, by Jared volunteering his personal information to the huge SPN fan base (and I assume some amount of press coverage), isn’t this a good way the give himself a bit of insurance? If his bosses are starting to think he looks expendable, they can’t now act on any desire to get rid of him without him or even his fans being able to turn around and call them out for discrimination.

I’m not saying these thoughts were the reason for AKF but do you think Jared had the foresight to sort of protect himself with the campaign as well, or was it all risk for him?.

I’m asking this because I read your recent response on possible reasons Jensen isn’t as sought after as Jared post SPN, despite being the clear favourite of some crew on the show.

Jared must have an amazing reputation to overcome the possible mental health stigma, and the fact that some SPN crew seem to blatantly favour Jensen (Wanek, Phil Segricia, Bib Singer, etc).

On a side note: who on the production crew do you think favoured, or even just backed Jared over Jensen? Or treated them equally even?

Okay, this was a lot. But I’d be interested in seeing your insight on any of this (I know you’ll pick what you would prefer to focus on) because from what I can tell, you really do have a pretty good read on what was likely going on behind the scenes.

I think you’re on the right track because it was also my first gut reaction the moment the Variety article came out. For Jared to come out when his career is still hot is pretty telling, normally actor don’t admit to mental illness until their career is drying up.  It’s one less thing he has to hide and therefore one less leverage others BTS can’t use against or hold over him.   

"I wasn’t in the fandom at the time"

During the early season there were rumors circulating that Jared was always late to the set. My first thought was, "They're setting him up to have a difficult reputation". It's producer tactic 101, put out fake news that the actor is a diva who is always late and if the actor doesn't toe the line, escalate it to "difficult actor" so that the studio is not the bad guy if the actor suddenly leaves. 7 years later we find out that Jared was looking to break his contract, so the producer(s) were preparing to make him the fall guy. Once Jared stayed on, the "late to the set" rumor immediately evaporated.

I bring this up because it ties into our speculation that Jared's decision to out himself for mental illness was at least partly motivated by removing a leverage against him BTS.

It was also the right time because he proved that as the principal lead of the longest continuous genre series in America, he's not a risk because filming schedule was never disrupted, which costs a lot of money. Even when he had a breakdown on set in season 3, he still finished out the season. His subsequent breakdown after season 10 could have derailed that, but he returned for season 11 and again lead the show through it's rating resurgence. Impressed, CBS arrived two years later at his doorstep with a holding deal.

"On a side note: who on the production crew do you think favoured, or even just backed Jared over Jensen?"

My immediate thought was Jeremy Carver. He was not in favor of the season 10 Dean-centric arc that Robert Singer and Jensen were angling for, and even tried to head off their campaign during Comic Con prior to season 9. His wife is currently the showrunner of Walker. There's also writer Adam Glass, I'm not sure why but he just vibed being all about Jared.

ETA: thanks to others' reminder, I would also add Sera Gamble. I can't believe I didn't immediatley thought of her as she's one of my favorite writers.

Now that there’s two fluff pieces about Jensen and Danneel’s marriage, does that mean something is up? I read the latest one and it was so bad. It was supposed to be all about Danneel, but they basically confirmed that she is something with Jensen and nothing without him. Also the piece where it got to their “activism”, was just dry. By dry I mean they made it look like the Ackles (Danneel) do the bare minimum and then said Jensen is the other half of the AKF campaign, but they didn’t mention the YANA campaign he and Misha started, when AKF started gaining traction.

Nice of them to want to make it seem as if anyone actually cares who Elta is. Hahaha Like you wrote, outside of Jensen she is nothing. Actually, the person who wrote that article didn't do their research and confused YANA with AKF, or so it seems. The article was an ordered one and it just contained regurgitated information meant to make Elta look good, it also showed everyone WHY she makes certain charity posts and it's to boost her profile so people can write things like what was written in that People article. I said Elta was going to take advantage of the Winchesters to boost her star and she is. I wouldn't be surprised if other articles will be ordered.

Conveniently the story of how the two got together is left out. LOL They both cheated on their partners at the time to get together. But since this is a paid for article that truth was conveniently left out to make them seem like a romantic couple and to push the power couple narrative. I guess Elta wants to be Blake Lively bad. Too bad for her she doesn't have the necessary knowledge, looks or charisma so these articles will fade away as fast as they were printed/posted.

Hey btw this Misha Collins thing is exactly what we're talking about when we tell people to stop idolizing celebrities, because he was worshipped as a god by a huge chunk of the people who are now shitting on him for "always doing publicity stunts." A few years back, he ran around sdcc with guys dressed like storm troopers to hand out water bottles, and people on here loved it and talked about what a great guy he was for keeping everyone cool and hydrated. If he did that now, after all this, he'd be criticized for making those people run in those costumes and for encouraging single use plastics. It's the same thing that happened with Jared, where people adored him and the AKF campaign, thought he was a hero for sharing his story, and then something happened on twitter or something and suddenly people were literally saying they hoped he would die. I'm not a fan of supernatural, I haven't been in years. This isn't me defending them and this isn't really even about them, they're just examples. People did it with John Mulaney and then he had some problems in his private personal life and everyone hates him now, people did it with John Green and then suddenly he was public enemy number one. Hell, there were people worshipping Lin Manuel Miranda when Hamilton first came out, and now look how people cringe when they have to hear his voice in any movie for any reason. It's a bafflingly common cycle, especially on the internet, especially on tumblr. Right now yall are getting real scary about Taika Waititi and I'm so afraid for when he eventually says or does Something that conflicts with this stainless image of him and he's chewed alive for it. Just stop putting people on pedestals. Treat them like people. Sometimes they do good things, but they can also do bad things. Just like you.
