I think it would be fun to make a modern akatsuki AU in which Deidara's post-defection career is just cage fighting. Like he leaves Rock, goes out into the wide world, and is faced with the problem all early career freelancers face ("connect service with paying customer??") and lands in an underground cage fighting situation because if he had to, like, work at a 7-Eleven, he'd kill someone. It's fine. He's A NINJA. He can cage fight.

I can't think of a place where his specific combat skills would be LESS useful than in an enclosed space and surrounded by spectators he's not meant to injure.

He'd be so mad all the time. And that's how I feel about my job! And it's probably how you feel about your job! Who doesn't know that specific professional "were it not for the rules by which I get paid, I would slay you where you stand" feeling?

You would also get the amusing payoff from this where he'd pick up his first contract job through his cage fighting professional network (hey, it's like LinkedIn for hired thugs) and he'd be like: 'Finally. An opportunity to do what I do best. Art.'

And then whoever hired him would get to realise in extravagant textual detail that they had done the hired goon equivalent of bringing a flamethrower to kill ants.

Sasori: *pulls the console plug out of the wall* Now. Hidan, go home to your own husband.

Hidan, standing and grumbling: Man, Dei, you sure did marry a hardass. Later, fuckers! *leaves*

Deidara: Shit, I’m sorry, Danna … you’re mad, aren’t you? I’ll go do the dishes right now, and then —

Sasori: *pulls Deidara into his arms and gives him a passionate kiss* Mmmm; I’ve been thinking about that all day. Fuck the dishes; I just said that so Hidan would go. *backs Deidara up against the wall and starts kissing down his neck and chest* I want to play some “games” with you, too ~

Deidara is a young, enthusiastic and promising musician. Sasori is a very obsessive producer and sound engineer, and way older than he looks, and who in fact kinda hates music.

After every live performance and every recording session, Deidara runs to him in a happy mood, always thanking him, and telling him that he would be nothing without his arrangements, followed by an invitation to spend some time together. And although Sasori always responds with disinterest, lately he started to think that Deidara's music is actually not that bad, maybe he even likes it. Also, he is pretty cute too...

Headcanon where whenever Deidara gets sick he goes to Sasori for health advice and Sasori tells him the stupidest things ever. Deidara doesn’t trust doctors but trusts his roommate who’s studying to be a doctor. Sasori then uses this to his advantage and gives the worst medical advice for entertainment.

Rash? leprosy

Rash + fever? bubonic plague

Headache? Lobotomy is needed

Mole? Skin cancer

Stomachache? Liver ruptured and is internally bleeding

Dehydrated? Diabetes and rabies

Coughing? Tuberculosis

Upset stomach? Cholera

Lactose intolerant? Nah you have tape worms in your intestines

Feeling lightheaded? You have a new disease and are going to die within two years

Deidara believes it too. So his stupid self calls his work telling his boss that he has the bubonic plague. 💀 imagine hearing that just to see him clock in at work a few days later.

Deidara thinks he’s going to die any second now with all of his “health conditions”

Sasori also uses this to test his ‘unethical’medicines on his roommate then tells him that he cured him (he made cough syrup) . Sasori just be lying to lie 😭
