Three envelopes mailed in 1974-75. The airmail one is from Switzerland, the others are within the USSR. The first envelope has a cute design that says “Happy New Year”.
Do you send handwritten cards or letters during the holiday season?

Tumblr media
Értéküket tekintve, hiába tekintetes korúak már, mivel több százmilliót(!) nyomtak belőlük, nem képviselnek érdemi értéket, még a postatiszták is 100 forintokért mennek, a san franciscoi ér egy picit többet mivel abból 'mindössze' 133 millió darabot nyomtak :D

Us airmail 10 cent stamp
Tumblr media
The stamp depicts the pain of a dying horse with its desperate owners on their way westward. In contrast to the triumphant images which adorn previous denominations of the Trans-Mississippi Exposition Issue, the 10-cent stamp portrays the hardships of the expansion and emigration westward. This stamp was good for payment of airmail postage on an item of one ounce or less across two zones of the Transcontinental Air Mail Route (westbound, New York-Cheyenne, Chicago-San Francisco eastbound, San Francisco-Chicago, Cheyenne-New York) or a double-weight letter over one zone. The Post Office Department issued 5,309,275 of the 16-cent stamps. The plate numbers appear eight times on each four hundred subject sheet adjacent to the fifth stamp from each outside corner, so that each pane of one hundred stamps has two plate number blocks of six. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing used four plate numbers (14828-14831) for this design. Huston designed the stamp, which was engraved by H. The meaningful design and rich color of this stamp make it one of the most popular single-color airmail stamps ever produced. The stamp's central design is the official insignia of the Air Mail Service-a circular center with spread wings. The Post Office Department first issued the stamp in Washington, D.C., on August 17, 1923. Originally scheduled to be issued in black, when the design was approved on August 6, 1923, it was decided to print it in deep blue. This 16-cent issue was the first United States stamp designated for airmail purposes that had the words 'Air Mail' in its design. A couple of months later, on July 31, the airmail rate changed, creating a very short time of usage for the booklets. Because of demand for airmail stamps in booklet form, the post office issued booklets with six Lindbergh stamps in panes of three on May 26, 1928. Louis, Missouri Detroit, Michigan Little Falls, Minnesota and the District of Columbia. The Lindbergh stamp replaced the previous 10-cent airmail stamp, and the first sale took place in St. On June 6 a proof was made, on June 8 the die was hardened, and on June 9 rolls and plates were made so that the next day the issue went to press. The model was approved on June 3 and engraving began the same day. Hall, director of the Bureau, believed that the engraving of this stamp and the making of the printing plates were accomplished in a shorter period of time than any similar printing job by the Bureau. The postmaster general presented the booklets on the evening of June 11 at a reception for Lindbergh at the Washington Auditorium by the National Press Club.Ī. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing prepared two leather-bound booklets: one with the first impression and one with the second impression. The postmaster general requested first impressions of the stamp for presentation to Lindbergh and his mother. The stamp was issued less than a month later, on June 18. The 10-cent design in dark blue shows the start and finish points of the solo, non-stop flight and the 3,600-mile route, which Lindbergh flew in thirty-three and a half hours on May 20-21, 1927. The plane was later suspended in the main entrance hall of the Smithsonian Institution’s Arts and Industries Building (later moved to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum). Because the law prohibited the use of the portrait of a living person, the central design represented Lindbergh’s airplane, The Spirit of St. Lindbergh flew solo across the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Paris, the post office decided to break tradition and issue a stamp that honored a living American. 10-cent Charles Lindbergh's Plane Spirit of St.

#5 cent airmail stamp series#
On board with them was a mail bag containing 60 letters, making this the first international U.S. Boeing while on a survey flight to Vancouver, British Columbia, on March 3, 1919. The first experimental foreign air mail flight from the U.S. Boeing stand in front of a Boeing C-700 seaplane near Seattle. The mailbag behind the pilot is labeled "No.
#5 cent airmail stamp series#
Unfortunately the bag broke when it hit the ground, but all of the mail was eventually recovered and forwarded by regular channels with the cancellation reading "AEROPLANE STATION No.1 – GARDEN CITY ESTATES, N.Y." Emphasizing the concept, in 1912 the United States printed a 20-cent stamp in the Parcel Post series showing a flying machine and titled, "AEROPLANE CARRYING MAIL". air mail pilot in history, Ovington took off in his own American-made Bleriot Queen tractor-type monoplane, Dragonfly, at 5:26 PM and dropped the bag of mail over Mineola six minutes later from an altitude of 500 feet. Postmaster General Frank Hitchcock as the first U.S. Ovington flew 640 letters and 1,280 postcards from the Aero Club of New York's airfield located on Nassau Boulevard near Stratford School in Garden City ( Long Island), New York, to the nearby Mineola Post Office in Mineola, located less than six miles away. The first official experiment at flying air mail to be made under the aegis of the United States Post Office Department took place on September 23, 1911, on the first day of an International Air Meet sponsored by The Nassau Aviation Corporation of Long Island, when pilot Earle L. Balloon mail was also carried on an 1877 flight in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1959 the United States Postal Service issued a 7-cent stamp (C-54) commemorating Wise's flight in the Jupiter. One month later, on August 17, Wise flew from Lafayette, Indiana, to Crawfordsville, Indiana, and carried 123 letters and 23 circulars on board that had been collected by the postmaster Thomas Wood and endorsed "PREPAID" but only one of these historic postal covers was discovered in 1957. Louis, Missouri, to Henderson, New York, a distance of 1,290 km on which he carried a mailbag entrusted to him by the American Express Company. John Wise piloted an unofficial balloon post flight that took place on July 17, 1859, from St. Wise ascends on the first United States balloon airmail from Lafayette, Indiana in 1859.ĭuring the first aerial flight in North America by balloon on January 9, 1793, from Philadelphia to Deptford Township, New Jersey, Jean-Pierre Blanchard carried a personal letter from George Washington to be delivered to the owner of whatever property Blanchard happened to land on, making the flight the first delivery of air mail in the United States. Domestic air mail became obsolete in 1975 as a distinct extra fee service, and international air mail in 1995, when the USPS began transporting all First Class long-distance intercity mail by air on a routine basis. Army Air Forces temporarily took over the routes-with disastrous results-when all CAM contracts were summarily cancelled by President Franklin D. The exclusive transportation of flown mails by government operated aircraft came to an end in 1926 under the provisions of the "Kelly Act" which required the USPOD to transition to contracting with commercial air carriers to fly them over Contract Air Mail (CAM) routes to be established by the Department, although during the first half of 1934 the U.S. Air Mail was formally established as a new class of service by the Post Office Department on May 15, 1918, with the inauguration of the Washington–Philadelphia–New York route for which the first of special Air Mail stamps were issued. Letters and parcels intended for air mail service were marked as "Via Air Mail" (or equivalent), appropriately franked, and assigned to any then existing class or sub-class of the Air Mail service.Īfter an intermittent series of government sponsored experimental flights between 19, domestic U.S. United States airmail was a service class of the United States Post Office Department (USPOD) and its successor United States Postal Service (USPS) delivering air mail by aircraft flown within the United States and its possessions and territories.
Egy idézet van belevésve a Leviták könyvéből angolul: 'Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.' (25:10).
Ahogy az lenni szokott ebből persze probléma lett, egyrészt a repedés a sok ide-oda pakolástól elkezdett aggasztóan nőni, másrészt a gátlástalanabb lakosok elkezdtek törni belőle apró darabokat szuvenírnek.
