When the news said the smoke would be coming over from the east of the state, but wouldn't be all that bad here in central/upstate NY, I assumed everything would look normal outside. The sky is literally a light orange. The sun is red. What the fuck

#i found out about the fires in eastern canada yesterday #i had heard about the ones in western canada already #but i hadnt heard about the ones on this side of the country #and then the news was saying central/upstate NY wouldnt really be seeing anything #but to keep an eye on the air quality index #well #the air quality is certainly worse than usual for this time of year #but god damn #ive only seen skies like this in movies and the news

Is there a way to help with the Canadian wildfires?

My area is back to being Unhealthy according to the Air Quality Index because of the smoke, but all I can think about is how scary and dangerous this must be for everyone actually living in Canada right now. I spent a little time googling, but I haven't seen any information about how to support people living through the fires themselves. I found a NYT article from the beginning of June, but I don't know how up-to-date it really is. I want to be able to help in some way but I don't know how.

(P.S. USAmericans can visit AirNow.gov to check the air quality in their area)
