Okay but if we really do lean into autistic, bi-and-out House
You grow up with rules that are arbitrary. Only you seem to see how arbitrary they are. You start learning to make your own rules.
You go off to college. LGBT acceptance is on the rise. You date around, multiple genders.
And then the AIDS crisis starts to hit. Two years into med school, you get kicked out. Was it because you were proving favoritism? Was it discrimination? You do everything you can to get back in but are denied. A permanent black mark on your record. Your community continues to die alone. You used to think that if you could just explain well enough, you could make them see. Not necessarily agree, but see where you’re coming from. For the first time since you left home, you are severely depressed.
You don’t call your girlfriend.
You cement your reputation as a brilliant, if prickly, diagnostician. You can’t tell if people are talking about your sexuality or if they just don’t like your anti-authority approach. They’re kind of one and the same, if you’re being honest. And you always try to be honest.

I think if terfs are joking about the aids crisis enough that you have to tell them to "please stop joking about the aids crisis", then maybe... idk, just stop being a terf.
I should start a collection of terfs who are begging and pleading with other terfs to stop being racist / sexist / antisemitic / homophobic. it's like if the leopards eating faces party was severely online antisocial freaks who pretend to be feminists but in actually are just pink fascists and white-cishet-christian-vulva supremacists.

Recently Bryan Fuller was attacked again and someone (an anti) qrt the post where he was shown drinking from a proship mug which had the rainbow flag as well as the pink triangle on it
This person said “it’s disgusting that the pink triangle was included. To associate a symbol that represents the treatment of queer people throughout history, specifically the holocaust, and using it as a symbol of wrong/illegal relationships…”
Do they realize that being gay was the reason they and their relationships were seen as “illegal/wrong” during nazi germany (and now in the USA)? Do they know that the pink triangle was reclaimed during the AIDS crisis and is a symbol AGAINST censorship? And do they know Bryan Fuller is gay and old enough to remember that time?
Also why are you surprised that the creator of a TV show featuring CANNIBALISM is proship? Ironic
But I feel like attacking queer/trans people and causing moral outrage/panic by claiming they are “illegal/wrong” is a deliberate attempt from antis to divide and conquer us

I was thinking earlier about the aids crisis in the 80’s and how stigmatized being lgbt+ was due to said crisis and with how the duffers write realistically for the eighties (minus, you know, the supernatural elements) it’s really fitting for how terrified Will is to come out. I mean it was scary back then on it’s own, but seeing all the propaganda and not having internet or resources to find the correct information, plus growing up with influences like lonnie and, I’m sure, many others in a small town. I just can’t imagine how hard it must be for will to come to terms with himself, let alone come out to anyone, and how much emotion truly went into his painting for mike when you know in the back of his mind he was fighting with himself over who he is and who he loves.

Double Isekai, Ch. 3
Did I intend to go on a rant about AIDS/HIV in its historical context vis a vis the queer community? No, no I did not.
Did it turn out fantastic anyway? Yes, yes it did.
Summary:
It's time to tell the tale to the most important people in Ranma's life, and a lot of old scars are going to be re-opened in the process.
EDIT: FUCK! I forgot to hit "schedule" instead of "Post"
Preview below the fold:
"Did she say..." Kasumi hesitated, "That something was wrong with Ranma?"
Nabiki stood against the inside of the fence, tapping her foot and keeping her arms crossed. She didn't like mysteries and the more time that passed after Kasumi's conversation with this woman yesterday, the more the mysteries compiled.
"I...think there is something wrong with him," said Akane, her hands flopping about like she sometimes did when she was stressed, "I saw him, he was in girl form and curled up at the kotatsu like he was sick or something."
Nabiki raised her eyebrow, "Well, whatever it is this Nodoka woman seems pretty sure she can handle it quickly or she would have sent us home."
Kasumi nodded, "Yes, I got the impression on the phone that she cared deeply for Ranma."
"Well, she's wealthy enough to buy new shoes for someone she just met, I saw them in the genkan when she was hurrying us back out."
"Why do you think she cares so much for Ranma, anyway?" asked Akane.
"I'd say they're related," answered Nabiki, "The woman's face and body structure is a dead-ringer for Ranma's girl-type body, and that's not even mentioning the hair color. Sure, her's is darker than Ranma's, but it's still a pretty identifiable red."
"That's quite the coincidence for someone who was mother's friend to happen to be related to Ranma," said Kasumi.
The door opened and their hostess stepped out again, "It makes more sense when you remember that your father and Ranma's have been friends for decades." said the woman, having apparently overheard them through the door. The three girls started, various levels of surprise etched on their faces as they took in Nodoka for the second time. She was quite the definition of a modern woman, wearing what to Nabiki's discerning eye to be men's trousers and a fetching blouse that had a touch of 'power' tailoring. "Ranma's been able to calm down a bit, you're very important and the anxiety for this meeting has been a bit...high." The three girls looked to each other in confusion as Nodoka continued, "As we explain what's happened, you will have questions and concerns, and a great deal of them, I'm sure. Please allow us to fully explain and we will answer all the questions you have as best we can. Now please, come in." She stepped aside and bowed, welcoming them into her home.
They entered, shedding their shoes and taking in the home. It was smaller than theirs, probably half the square footage overall, for all it was in a better neighborhood. The furnishings were somewhat plain and antiquated compared to the woman's outfit, and notable for its absence was a television. Nabiki did notice a large quantity of books stacked and shelved artlessly about the living room. There was a set of stairs leading to the second floor, likely where the bedrooms were, and a hallway stretching away from the living room, the telltale signs of a furo and laundry room being the only doors in that direction. Quickly exiting the genkan into the living room, the dining area was fully visible, with Ranma sitting primly and, perhaps most surprisingly, like a woman at the kotatsu. Nabiki was glad that all three of them paused in shock at the sight of Ranma, who was wearing clothes that he normally wouldn't be caught dead in, as she would have stood out if she was the only one who reacted. Most disturbing for Nabiki was he was smiling brightly and companionably at all three of them. She'd become quite used to Ranma barely tolerating her presence if not outright stating he'd rather be elsewhere if she were in the room.
"Please, girls, have a seat. I'll restart the heat on the kettle, I'm afraid we weren't quite sure when you'd be here and jumped the gun a little on that."
"Oh, I do apologize," said Kasumi, "I didn't remember a time being mentioned..."
"No, Kasumi-chan, that's just as much our fault, I'm afraid." said Nodoka as she went into her kitchen. Nabiki took the invitation and settled herself down across from Ranma, trying to puzzle out the latest development and very aware she lacked all the information, "In everything that happened yesterday setting a specific time slipped my mind." She did some similar motions in the kitchen that Nabiki recognized from her sister's usual bustling about in their own kitchen, some things were simply universal, it seemed. She turned to face them again, "You're here now, though, and that's what matters."
While she'd been talking, Akane sat on Nabiki's left and Kasumi on the right. Nodoka settled herself between Ranma and Kasumi, leaving a bit of a gap between Ranma and Akane, one which the pair seemed to notice and were eyeing it nervously. "To begin with," started Nodoka, "A proper introduction is in order, I think. I know who you all are, or at least of you well enough. Kasumi, of course, I spoke to you on the phone," she nodded at the eldest Tendo, "Nabiki, your reputation does precede you, but don't worry, I won't hold it against you," said the woman as she winked playfully, "And, of course, Akane." She sighed, "And I'm Nodoka Saotome, Ranma's mother."
Had any of them been holding anything, they would have dropped it. "What?!" gasped Akane.
"Oh, but we had thought...I mean..." began Kasumi.
"That I was dead? Yes, that seems to be the going theory. We bumped into a pair of your friends, Akane, earlier today at the mall. They were just as surprised that I was not, in fact, deceased."
Akane seemed to recover enough to gesture to Ranma, "So what's with the get-up?! You know he's a boy, right?"
Nodoka sighed, "Yes, Akane, I'm aware of Ranma's gender at birth. For reasons I will come to later, I will ask that you address Ranma and any discussion around her in the feminine form. For now, understand that I'm fully aware that, according to everything you know and Ranma's birth record, the person sitting before you is male."
"So, what," asked Nabiki, hoping to get to the heart of things, "Are you mad that Ranma let everyone think you were dead so you're making him..."
"Her," said Nodoka.
"Fine," snapped Nabiki in the same tone, "Are you making her act like a girl until some punishment is complete?"
Ranma's mother sighed, "I can understand, given the man that I married, why you would think as much. But no, were it only that complicated this would be much, much easier."

Yeah Remus Lupin is sexy, but you know what’s sexier? Reading a book that doesn’t use lycanthropy as an excuse to demonize gay people and the AIDS epidemic

So I definitely cried at this concert. 100% I smeared my eyeliner all over the damn place.
Because holy cow, to be in the presence of such an amazingly talented man is an experience beyond words. Rob Halford is still performing, still belting these fucking notes, at 71 years old... in studded leather outfits.
You can bet your ass I sobbed my little gay eyes out to "Never the Heroes" and "You Got Another Thing Comin'". I sat in the audience thinking about how easily we could have lost Mr. Halford in the 80's or 90's and broke into a hundred pieces for a second.
The AIDS epidemic took so many people. Far too many people. We have suffered their loss for years. It didn't happen "in the past", no matter how badly people with conservative views try to bury our history. I mean, Judas Priest was formed in 1969, the same year the Stonewall Riots happened. That was 53 years ago, and AIDS was allowed to take thousands of lives before any serious steps were taken to mitigate its spread.
We still feel the loss of these people every day. We feel it in our homes. We feel it in political polls, education standards, and the Fine Arts. We are wounded, mourning a generation of lost family members and lovers and voters and artists. As a community.
But despite all the darkness, Rob Halford remains! The iconic man who brought leather from gay bars to the metal scene, the man who preaches love and acceptance to the crowds who need it most, the man who saw hatred and said "Fuck you, I deserve to feel my anger and take up space", the Metal God himself, is still rocking out.

“gay people didn’t exist the the eighties” takes are like homophobic, duh, but. like. are you also… stupid? do you… not remember? the eighties?? not only did gay people exist back then, i’d say they were a… staple of the decade.

Every time I hear someone say "cis man" in opposition to LGBTQ+, or see someone say cis men shouldn't be welcome in LGBTQ+ space, or run an otherwise generic LGBTQ+ space that isn't open to cis men, I think of all the cis LGBTQ+ men who died during the AIDS crisis.
The demonization of men/masculinity also hurts trans and GNC folk, but that's it's own topic of conversation, and it's just wrong to act like cis men aren't LGBTQ+. Being cis men shields them very little from homophobia and bigotry, especially for non-white cis men and gender non-conforming cis men.
Almost everyone in the LGBTQ+ community lives in intersections of privilege and oppression. Deciding that having some kind of privilege negates an LGBTQ+ identity is arbitrary. It's a losing game. Trying to cleanly separate privileged vs oppressed LGBTQ+ people only works when you're talking about a specific axis of oppression, a specific context. It's not possible to take a single segment of LGBTQ+ people and deem them too privileged to be LGBTQ+ or whatever, that's not helpful. It often feels like a way to find the LGBTQ+ people it's okay to be bigoted toward, which is no one, or a way to ignore other forms of privilege and oppression.
LGBTQ+ people are still one community in this together, even when we're messy. And trying to single out specific LGBTQ+ people as not really LGBTQ+ due to their gender or good faith label isn't helpful.

this was originally sent to me via an anonymous ask on my old blog hardestgrove and i’m reposting it here pretty much unchanged or editted
i know you are one of few who ship billy/chrissy and i was wondering if you have any hc's of billy helping chrissy through her eating disorder? part of me also believes that billy has issues with his body and possibly has an eating disorder himself to some degree. -- anon
meant to reply to this last night but i went insane and detoured sorry my bad
it’s my sacred duty to champion the cunningrove agenda so happy to get into this shit! I’ll also preface this with saying I don’t really have personal experience with these topics, I’m working off of knowledge from osmosis and research so if anything feels incorrect, off or bullshity that would be why and I apologize for that rip.
first off I think Billy is skirting what would be considered a more clinical issue. He engages in problematic eating habits but ones that are more “acceptable” like strict dieting (as much as he can with Neil dictating the menu and pantry), fasting for weight loss, ignoring certain foods in favor of others because they’re better for bulking up regardless of his nutritional needs etc. I think you’re right that Billy has body issues. I think there’s room on how you want to interpret them though and I pick whichever I think makes the most sense for what I’m working on at the moment. I think the two main options are:
Billy has been put down so much, including comments about his appearance growing up, that he struggles to see himself as attractive as he is and works on himself as a means of gaining control somewhere in his life and making himself feel better.
Billy knows he looks good and is confident in his looks. He is obsessive about his appearance and maintaining it because it’s something he can control and it’s something that cannot be easily taken from him that he can take pride in. It’s a way to both express himself and make himself feel better. His body is the only thing he really has that’s undeniably his.
I think it’s also very important to note that with the escalation of the AIDS crisis there were shifts in the queer and straight communities about what was the most attractive look for a man (the shift was more notable in the queer community tho). In the 70s men like Bowie who were thinner and androgynous had much more sway on the mass concept of sex appeal but with AIDS being a wasting disease there was reignited interest in the whole virile macho man look. I see Billy very much as bisexual which would make him sadly one of the most vulnerable groups to hate on all sides. Billy’s father already has a very stunted, toxic and traditional view on masculinity which already emphasizes a malformed version of the virile masculine man. Not to mention the desire to bulk up and get strong so no one else can make him feel weak or helpless ever again.
So it’s all just this big cocktail of shit on his end, a lot of it just simmering there likely never to be directly confronted due to the differences in how these issues are treated between men and women.
I think walking into Hawkins Billy has more aware of eating disorders than most guys his age (or maybe even people in town idk) because he’s from a bigger city and knew more girls. I wrote elsewhere in one cunningrove that one girl at his school got taken away in an ambulance because she’d passed out from starvation at school. Billy used to be more keyed into girl world than the other guys back in San Diego (for dating/sex reasons let’s not give him TOO much credit lol) so it’s something he has this kind of vague passing understanding of eating disorders as it is.
Her eating disorder is frankly one of the reasons he probably started seriously paying attention to her/spending time with her. At first he paid attention to her because she was hot and he was planning out his socio-political moves to cement his place as the new king around town. But then he noticed how she’d bail mysteriously after she had a big/decent sized lunch but didn’t after tiny/nonexistent ones and how when not in her cheer uniform all her clothes are on the baggy and covering end– as much as she can get away with at least.
Billy has no faith in others. He firmly believes that no one will ever come and help you, that you have to do it yourself if you want it done. So he knows that even if someone other than him has noticed she’s probably got a problem here they’re not gonna do shit to help. It doesn’t sit well with him, she’s probably one of the nicest people in town it shouldn’t take her needing to be hospitalized for people to realize she needs help. So he takes it on himself. Because fuck that shit. Billy doesn’t know how to be just friends with girls though, this is literally isn’t a skill or mentality he allowed to develop growing up so he dates her. He woos and seduces her and officially gets her under his wing of protection and into the space he’s socially allowed to like… Feel Anything In.
One of the first things he does (with out her knowledge ofc) is go at look up books on eating disorders. Billy’s smart and knows he’s out of his depth and not interested in talking out his ass and making it worse. There’s likely not a lot on how to like, help your loved ones in those books though, just the technical jargon. So he tries to put himself in her shoes and figure out what he/Chrissy would want– which ofc seeing has he does in fact have a certain amount of body issues himself is uh, easier than anticipated lol.
One of the things he does is just tell her often how pretty she is, in different ways and phrasings so if one doesn’t land the next will. He picks out all her flaws with the seasoned eye of a man with a mean streak and then comments on them positively– how it’s cute that her teeth aren’t perfect etc. He also makes her to comment positively on her other traits like kindness and intelligence and her skills. He works his ASS off to be a safe space for her, to keep his temper at bay and be as gentle as he can physically manage. To you know, not be Billy the Asshole with her at least. It gets easier with time as it becomes more natural for him to allow himself to be open and gentle.
Eventually she feels safe to really open up to him and he shares his own home issues with her so she doesn’t feel alone, so she knows that he gets it. He’s very gentle about urging her to eat just a little more (he kisses her hair and murmurs “just one more carrot for me baby”) but doesn’t get on her case if she can’t manage it. He distracts her from the need to purge or works her through talking about it or helps her find healthy things to do when it hits her. Whatever he can. He lets her know he’s here for her, that he’s not judging, that he gets it and that if she needs him he’s here.
He becomes her backbone until she can finally let herself use her own. Contradicting her mother every time she makes a comment about Chrissy’s looks/weight (because you know she can’t keep her mouth shut even in public/in front of a “guest”). And he does it with the “no nonsense I’m a hardass” tone he has. That’s his fucking girlfriend you’re talking about bitch, no one talks bad about his fucking girlfriend (Billy’s possessive to the point he puts himself higher on the list than his partner’s mother? it’s more likely than you think!). He includes Chrissy in his calculations on what he’s gonna need when he moves out because the second she’s 18 he’s getting her the fuck out of there and he doesn’t take no for an answer on it. Momentarily taking advantage of her doormat nature and his own naturally intimidating vibes? Sure. But even Chrissy admits later she needed the kick in the ass. Her mother was abusive but a known element, leaving home is new and scary and unknown and Chrissy had so little faith in herself she didn’t think she could survive leaving until she was forced to. Then she realized how much better life was.
That’s likely when she really starts to make the most progress because she’s so much freer to make choices and already feels much braver having made such a big step. Plus she has Billy at her back as a safety net, she can take risks and be brave because she knows he’s there to catch her and her increasing confidence helps her believe that she really is good enough as is. If at all possible she’d ideally get professional help as well and he’d help her with that too but that’s all very determined by like, finances and shit.
I could probably go on more but this is already Very Long soooo

Welp - well I guess Ellen will get outed by a recording in the White House. At least she got more screen time in the latest FAMK episode. Is it wrong to wish Larry got AIDs which ended up outing Ellen vs her reminiscing about what could have been with Pam (my guess). If recording about Pam, at least that gives an in for Pam to return someday explaining her actions from S2.
Anon! Omg, wishing AIDS on Larry is terrible, yes, that would be wrong. I don't even see how them being caught out by Ellen simply talking would be the worse option of the two, if they're gonna be outed one way or another.
I feel like Ellen simply reminiscing about Pam or women in general is extremely tame for a reveal like this, on this show. It's going to be something bigger, I think.
