Harry opens his mouth to speak, but all that comes out is another 'um'. He really needs to work on translating his thoughts into words. But then it probably wouldn't be any help right now, would it? His mind is as blank as a newly erased etch-a-sketch.

"Oh," Nick says again, this time gleefully, seemingly having picked up on Harry's distress. "Looks like we've got a story here! Are you going to call or delete her number?"

Her number. So Nick thinks it's a girl. Well, Harry can't blame him: 'Lou' is kind of an androgynous nickname. His stylist's name is Lou.

But this Lou, well, Louis, he's kind of, really, really not a girl. He's really pretty though, which, is something.

(Or: AU where Harry's in One Direction, Louis isn't, and they reconnect over a game of 'Call or Delete'.)

Giving a doctor the ability to portray empathy without true emotion, without feeling the full brunt and sheer force of the underlying pain itself. But Louis feels it, he feels the crushing agony laced behind the phrase, he feels the weight of the painful words, slipping from his lips, the cause and effect that the three-word expression holds. The distantly empty "I'm so sorry" that doctors through out in self-preservation, isn't at all empty for him. Louis recognizes it, he understands it, he feels it. ✚☤✚ a fated story of two broken and battered boys who barely survived the unimaginable and how the love of one little brave girl defies all the odds and somehow puts them back together.

And it's not just that there's shit on the ceiling. It's on the walls and the floors and the tub and the sink and just-fucking everywhere. Toilet paper draped like fucking streamers at a birthday party. But this is no birthday party. No, this is a thing of nightmares, it is the work of a terror. A terror shaped exactly like their three-year-old son. "RORY!" Louis screams at the very peak of his lung capacity. "It wasn't me!" A tiny innocent voice calls back. "I swear! I swear! I swear!" or Harry and Louis' three-year-old son has an imaginary friend that is making their life a living, breathing hell.

He shakes his curls as a deep frown pulls his little brows together, at a loss for what this means. There's confusion in his eyes along with growing frustration that is sure to lead to a full-blown toddler meltdown. "Where is...ME!" Or three-year-old Rory just doesn't understand why he wasn't invited to his parents' wedding.

Louis finishes, just ripping the band aid off. Who knows how long Harry would have dragged that sentence out for. Rory instantly pauses, settling his legs as he sits up slowly. "No. I'm your baby." "Yes, you are our baby, but we are getting another one too." Harry explains gently. "No, you can not. Just me...I'm baby. I'm the only baby." "You're our first baby." Louis tries next, rubbing Rory's back supportively. "No." Rory argues, his signature deep frown appearing on his forehead. "Yes-" "No." He repeats seriously, looking them dead in the eye. "No." or while preparing for the arrival of their second child, nearly four-year-old Rory expresses his sincere disapproval of getting a new addition to their family.

Louis ruffles Rory's floppy curls, sitting down on the stool closest to his son. "Rory, sweetheart, you know you don't have to announce everything for us to listen to you." "Yes, I do." Rory insists adamantly, eyes wide. "Why?" Harry asks again, hoping to grasp just a single ounce of understanding into the innerworkings of this child's mind. "Why Rory?" The question seems to utterly trigger Rory. "Cuz you don't listen to me! I just told you! See! You're not listening!" "Rory-""Listen, Daddy Listen!" Rory stresses urgently. "I am listening, Rory I promise, I'm listening to you!" Harry frustratedly pledges. Rory shakes his head stubbornly, not at all willing to budge on his perspective. "Nuh uh. You only listen to Winnie now. I'm invisible." or ever since the arrival of his baby sister, Rory no longer believes that his parents are really paying attention to him. Louis continued. “His nose probably hasn’t picked it up, and you’re lucky Liam’s also a beta, but it took me a minute to confirm it. Your scent is gettin’ so…” He seemed to struggle to find a word. He didn’t finish the sentence, but the emotion in his voice made Harry’s tummy churn. -- Or, Harry is a touch starved omega trying to get through it on his own. Louis happens to be the only alpha around to realize it and offers to help.
