Thanks for that answer and while I'm not fond of Toshi dying, I am curious about a canon divergence where he and AFO both go down in an act of mutual annihilation during their first battle (and AFO won't get recovered), if only for the consequences. If you're willing to do that one, I'd love to hear it, but if AM dying is a hard no, could you perhaps do an AU where AFO dies for real + consequences?
mmm, yes, how about some middle ground- AfO and All Might both die in the first fight, but Toshinori Yagi survives, barely.
1- Toshi drags AfO's corpse behind him as he goes to recon with Gran and Sir. One For All is fading, slipping out of his fingers, and he grips AfO tighter to try and hold it in. It doesn't prevent his strength from leaving, but it keeps AfO's body from being snatched. Sir is stunned and horrified by the sight, his trembling call of 'All Might?' ignored. Gran breaks through and takes the corpse from him only after he says in a voice more gentle than he's used in years that "It's done, Toshinori."
2- Gran leaves to take care of the body. Sir gets Toshinori to the hospital. He's in critical state for days. When he finally wakes up, the blood's been all washed off. He says that All For One is dead, and so is One For All. He meets Sir's eyes. "You looked?" He asks. Sir looks down. "Only to see if you'd wake up." Planning All Might's funeral, after all, would have required a lot of time. But Toshinori sighs, and says they'll still need that funeral, and Sir, as his sidekick, gets the agency. Sir says he'll just do the paperwork to get the money where Toshi wants it sent, and only for three years. Toshi wonders if he's been given a prediction, but doesn't ask.
3- Toshinori spends a lot of time on I-island in his retirement. David is one of the few people he has, after all, and once he is firm in his retirement and official death, Dave is just happy that he's alive and returning his hug to put other thoughts out of his mind for a while. Only a while, though- Dave knows the power vacuum and crime surge that's ramping up. Toshinori can't fight it anymore, but he's strategic and has a lot of intel on villains in japan, and the two of them make plans and send support to the heroes back home. It helps, a little bit.
4- But Toshinori can’t stay on I-island, even if he feels most helpful there, even if Dave and Melissa’s guest room is all but his. Nana died for Japan, and he sacrificed a lot for it too, and it’s easier to keep an eye on things there. So a lot of movement back and forth. He didn’t die after three years. Sir makes his own agency, and it’s strained but not without contact. Toshinori is tired. The world keeps changing and won’t let him rest. But, one visit to I-island, Melissa mentions that there’s a new student at the academy, a freshman who’s quirkless and from Japan. Izuku Midoriya, she thinks he and her uncle would get along.
5- so, the ripples: Because of increased crime, Inko and Izuku leave Japan to go join Hisashi working abroad, which is stressful but eventually Izuku wins entrance into I-island’s academy, the closest he could get to heroics as no schools near his new home accepted quirkless students and his parents refused to return to Japan. Endeavor, thrust into the Number One position six years early, has much less time to be home and Shoto is glad. When Fuyumi turns eighteen, she quietly asks her father for an allowance and an apartment away to watch her brothers in. Enji, two years into this change, agrees. Bakugou and Tsubasa are the two students from Aldera Middle to make it to UA High- they haven’t seen Deku since he moved away in other school, and haven’t thought about him for a couple of years. They’re close, though, as the orphanage Tsubasa lived in closed due to lack of funding and Tsubasa’s been crashing on his couch more often than not, which is not exactly a healthy environment but is better than going in the nomu soup. Mina comes across a giant man who’s sniffing around insisting that he smells All Might, that he's still here, still alive, he needs to find him. Mina watches him investigate a building that looks run down and abandoned until a short old man walks by, says he's dead, but the building is where he used to live, historic location, can’t torn down for it. The giant keeps insisting that he’s alive, the scent fresh. Mina tells him she wishes All Might was alive too, but she going to be a hero inspired by- the man lashes out, angry, and Kirishima can’t help but watches as the old man moves quickly, and the next thing he knows he’s sitting next to Mina as the police drive the giant away and the EMTs look over his friend, who’s alright but going to have a much more heroic scar than him. They promise to be heroes and have each other’s back. When they get to UA, their class looks different, fewer people each year take the entrance exam, though still more than most other schools. Hawks is exhausted as his rise through the top heroes is planned to emulate All Might’s. He had to make top ten before he was twenty, to beat Endeavor’s record, and sometime between his twenty fifth and twenty sixth birthday he knows he’s going to hit number one, burning through more and more official cases to get the number he needs. It’s not hard, with crime rates rising, even if it’s not going up as sharply as David and Toshi feared. The Yakuza is even making a comeback, as much as vigilante Stendhal tries to fight it, and Chisaki Kai’s sister is not allowed to leave the family to get married, too much risk. She resents this and slips some secrets to Giran, who’s curious about her adopted brother’s quirks- a shame his old patron isn’t around anymore, but he's got an annoying nineteen year old Tomura upstairs in his loft who tracked him down years ago, leading a mostly unresponsive Kurogiri by the hand, demanding to know why he’s been abandoned and how to fix the only caretaker he has left.

Honestly,  anon,  I'm  super  bias  about  it, so I might be totally wrong  but  I  think  (hope)  he  will  live  and  I  think  the  fact  he  hasn't  died  yet  is  a  good  sign. When  I  really  think  about  it  there  is  actually  no  reason  why  Dabi  should  die.  Taking  aside  the  stupid  missing-the-point  moral  posturing,  the  other  "logic"  I've  seen  for  why  he  should  die  has  already  been  invalidated  by  the  canon.  As  a  child  Dabi  was  cremated  to  such an  extent  that  it  would  be  impossible  to  not  only  live  through  it  but  to  actually  have  his  body  reconstructed,  and  yet  thats  what  happened.  Thats  as  far  as  real  world  logic  goes.  But  the  logic  of  MHA  being  set  like  150+  years  in  the  future  and  the  presence  of  supernatural  powers  negates  this. On  top  of  this  we  have  the  heavy  themes  and  tropes  present  in  Dabi's  character  which,  imo,  are  important  to  Dabi  "living"  through  both  of  his  self  immolations.  He  is  based  heavily  on  the  idea  of  the  Revenant  Zombie  and  the Onryo,  which  I  talked  about  in  this  post,  along  with  the  fact  he  parallels  Frankenstein's  Monster. 
So  in  a  way  I  think  its  very  much  suggested  Dabi  is  and  perhaps  always  has  been  some  type  of  pesky  undead.  This  isn't  way  out  with  the  presence  of  the  Nomu,  given  undead  bioweapons  are  exactly  what  the  Nomu  are  so  if  the  MHA  world  can  have  that,  theres  no  reason  it  can't  have  a  functioning  Revenant.  It  kinda  just  makes  Dabi  a  kind  of  proto-nomu.  Garaki  does  say  that  while  he  was  able  to  reconstruct  most  of  Dabi's  body  ( We  can  only  thank  whatever  medical  advancements  humanity  has  made  in  the  last  150  years  for  how/why  he  was  able  to  do  this )  he  ultimately  failed  and  Dabi  was  dead  but  he  somehow  "came  back  to  life"  and  that  it  was  obvious  it  was  Dabi's  burning  grudge  that  brought  him  back  and  has  kept  him  alive.  
So  we  have  that.  Which  means  I  can't  see  why  Dabi  couldn't  live  through  this.  So  far  he  has,  so  far  he's  still  alive.  The  last  time  we  saw  the  Todoroki's  Enji  and  Natuso  were  using  their  bodies  as  shields  to  protect  Dabi  from  further  harm  when  the  Twice  Clone  Army  were  closing  in.  This  suggests  Dabi's  still  alive.  And  if  Dabi's  body  could  be  restored  after  his  first  burning  why  couldn't  it  be  restored  now ? Theres  nothing  saying  it  couldn't  so  overall  theres  nothing  really  saying  Dabi  should  or  has  to  die  and  that  he  can't  come  back  from  his  current  condition. 
My  only  concern  is  that  the  tropes  of the  Revenant  and  the  Onryo  often  see  them  finally  "dying" or "moving on"  to the afterlife once  they've  settled  their  grudge /  did  whatever  they  had  to  do  to  find  peace. Thats  when  the  spirit  finally  moves  on  in  most  portrayals  of  them  in  popular  media.  This  could  be  Dabi's  case  too  but  I  don't  know  that  Hori  intends  to  throw  it  that  way.  I  think  he's  planning  to  invert  the  ending  of  Frankenstein  and  rather  have  the  monster  and  creator  heal  from  the  suffering  they've  inflicted  on  each  other and have neither die in the process  because  I  really  think  its  Hori's  intention  to  "save"  the  LoV .  (  Not  just  Dabi  but  all  of  them  and  current  canon  is  looking  real  good  for  this,  and  NO,  I  don't  believe  Himiko  is  dead  or  going  to  die  either.  The  way  Hori  set  her  story  and her  "redemption"  up  would  turn  her  dying  into  a  really  ugly  cliche  and  so  far  I  have  faith  in  him  to  avert  that  too. )   
Its  a  way  more  compelling  and  satisfying  story  than  "Villains  bad,  they  all  must  die  cause  villains  bad"  cause  thats  really  not  what  the  stories  about.  I  feel  like  if  they  were  going  to  die  we  would  have  obvious  and  explicit  confirmation  that  they're  dead  already  as  was  the  case  with  AFO.  The  stark  difference  in  the  climax  of  AFO's  battle  and  the  way  we  had  his  story  and  motives  shown  to  us,  showing  us  that  he  was  rather  NOT  a  very  sympathetic  character  and  was  more  or  less  born  a  monster,  and  the  way  he  was  finished  is  another  good  sign  that  Hori  doesn't  intend  to  just  kill  off  Dabi,  Himiko,  Tomura  and  I  hope  not  Spinner  either. Surely  if  he  did  it  would  have  happened  already.

Heeey, It's one AFO's Jailbreakers!...Like I know, its late in the story and any intrigue they kinda had was sorta yanked down after the first three jobbed to Deku ('Sharptooth' and 'Sea Monster' don't have any naaames) for many...but I can't help but love these minor type of guys!~ They're the same as the Advisors to me...granted Hori seems to be keen on keeping the rest of their identities hidden up until now.
I do know we've seen the DreadlocksJailbreaker one, waaay back in the crowd shot in 343. I wonder if they or the guy with the umbrella, is Ghastly. I'm eager to see if Kunieda can put up a good fight against Aoyama before going down. His Quirk is interesting. Given that Kunieda mentioned Dictator 'wasn't given a second chance' I guess we can assume AFO knows where the captured villains are...but is actively choosing to not fack with them for now...for some reason. Or. at least, that's what he told Kunieda.

A pleasure as always to have you in my inbox. ^^ I just wanted to let you know that I put most of my thoughts on both Kunieda and his company, and Hose Face and his, in this chapter roundup post, so feel free to mosey over there if you want my rambling about it at (much) more length.
Hard agree, though, that the jailbreakers don't feel very threatening when Deku or Bakugou have defeated every single one of them without so much as breaking a sweat so far, give or take Lady N. Which is a shame, because they'd be a great way to explore more of what AFO's support structure really looked like outside of his real devotees like Machia and Ujiko.
Are these the people AFO was thinking about when he told All Might, back at Kamino, about how he hated him for taking out all his support over the years? Are these the bodies he tacitly accused All Might of standing on to enjoy the view of his oh-so-perfect society?
Or are they just opportunists, people who agreed to do AFO's work in exchange for him busting them out of prison? Did they feel pressured to accept? How much do they know about him, and are they remotely conflicted about being conscripted into his army? I wish I thought we would get more answers than I suspect we will, but fingers crossed!
As to Ghastly/Gashly, I would assume he's the one with the parasol rather than the dreads, if only by rule of conservation of information. I wonder who he'll even come up against...? I assume he was with AFO's main group, since those rando heroes at the Dabi Location talked about how lucky they were that they weren't at the same battlefield Gashly and Kunieda were, so presumably he's not with the groups trying to spring Kurogiri or Machia.
Not with the Dabi group, not with the ShigAFO group, and presumably if he'd been left behind, we'd have seen him with Kunieda. Which I guess leaves either the Toga group or the AFO group?
Man, you know what would be fun, is if AFO didn't actually bring him along at all, but left him behind to keep an eye on Skeptic. Wouldn't want that guy getting any bright ideas just because there's no one else in the cave with him right now, after all.
...On the other hand, the longer Skeptic goes without getting collared, the happier I'll be, so maybe not. Curious to find out, in any case! If nothing else, I continue to be interested in the kinds of people who are (implied to be) thrown in Tartarus.

BnHA Ch.340 - Review, parallels & comparisons
I take back everything I said in my leak reactions post except how much I love Sansa’s faces. This chapter was great! The real thing was so much better with full art and all the wordy bits together in context. Strategy-wise, I’m glad the heroes are FINALLY taking a page out of the villain playbook — we’ve seen our heroes get separated at USJ, the forest camp, Kamino, the UA crush in the provisional licensing arc, the Shie Hassaikai raid, the war arc, Deku’s solo stint….and never with a backup plan or Plan B. They CAN be taught!
At the outset, I was struck by the All Might/Aizawa foiling that forms the backbone of the chapter. They’re in the same building at the same time; a first since They Talked™️ in Ch.257. I love seeing these two disabled heroes, who were originally staunch loners, learning to rely on each other as a team. Of course, they still have very different styles. All Might is big and theatrical and energizing the crowd; Aizawa is quiet and straightforward and helps others conquer their fears 1 on 1. But seeing each man using their individualities to bring strength to a team? Yeah, we love to see it.

I also like seeing All Might express faith in Aoyama’s heroism, because it’s the answer to the question Present Mic was asking a few chapters back; namely, can you really trust this kid? As I wrote here:
Mic is asking the kids to think hard about whether Yuga — the kid who sold out the heroes to save his family — is the right person to help the heroes deceive AFO. AFO, who wont hesitate to kill Yuga’s parents. The generations-old guy who can sense emotions and a change of heart from afar. Who uses other senses to make up for his lack of sight (meaning he likely has a Matt Murdock-like ability to sense pulse rate changes when people lie). In other words, what’s to prevent Yuga from victimizing heroes like Aizawa AGAIN when AFO goes after Yuga’s parents, as he most certainly will?
The real answer is no, they can’t 100% trust him, but they can support him and influence him with friends and faith. Friends to protect Aoyama and his family, and then faith that Aoyama will pick himself up and be a hero. Both All Might and Aizawa decide to put their faith in Aoyama, just as Izuku and 1A did last chapter.

But I was impressed we heard All Might say, out loud, that this was a matter of willpower and CHOICE. He chooses to trust Aoyama and Aizawa, just as he chooses to keep living. All Might may not have a lot of options in this final battle, but he still affirmatively chooses to speak up and support Aoyama rather than roll over. It’s a nice parallel between All Might/Yoichi and Izuku/Aoyama. Yoichi, as the vestige leader, had to convince Second to support Izuku, just as All Might is convincing Tsukauchi to support Aoyama. Is it delusional to believe a traitor can save them all? “Can these boys really bring an end to all this?” Yes, they can.

Further, All Might recognizes what AFO has done to Aoyama. AFO forced the kid to betray the heroes (or what Tsukauchi crassly refers to as “decent society”) but Aoyama did it to SAVE his parents. Aoyama knows what he did was wrong, but he had to choose who to save. He didn’t want to hurt his friends or teachers and is wracked with guilt over it. All Might, more than anyone else, knows how AFO uses lives as tools and throws them away.

Toying with and breaking people is the very source of All Might’s rage against AFO, and the reason he says he can’t forgive AFO in Kamino. (Reminder: When All Might talks “defeat” or “putting down for good,” he doesn’t mean death, even for the “unforgivable” AFO.)

There is also the harsh parallel to All Might’s own life. Since middle school, All Might has been “the pillar” and “the symbol,” but as the star-headed dude said in Ch.325, “along the way people forgot about the heart and soul that made the man.” All Might was himself exploited as a resource by citizens and other heroes. He knows the feeling of a society resting on his shoulders. He knows Aoyama’s inner turmoil. And he knows he passed all of that on to Izuku, too.
Actually, this chapter has both Aizawa and All Might reflecting on how they — as heroes and hero course teachers — are helping society exploit their students. Let’s turn to Aizawa: He’s had a similar pep talk with Izuku before the Shie Hassaiki raid, but here he is refreshingly blunt about the role of his students in this battle. Aizawa is taking personal responsibility for these kids and the choice to put them on the front lines. I don’t think we’ve EVER seen that before. Not from Nana or Gran, not from Nezu, not from the HPSC. And while both sides use people as tools, the difference is (1) Aizawa is transparent about what he is doing with Aoyama and Shinso; and (2) he won’t abandon his students afterwards when their utility is gone.

Art-wise, look carefully at the panels of prior Tartarus conversations vs this Aoyama conversation. Horikoshi generally places his heroes on the RIGHT side of the page, except when making a particular point (go back to Ch.116 and see when AFO is flipped to the right side). But here, Aoyama is on the right side at the end. Kurogiri is shown head-on. Aizawa knows these 2 characters; he’s seen what’s in their hearts. He knows they can be heroes — and he knows they have friends to support them — so THEY sit in the hero’s chair. I still think that, overall, Aizawa is out for revenge for everything the LOV has done to him and his students, but he’s become more flexible in how he thinks about villainy and unfairness starting with people he personally knows well.

In the panel below, Aoyama’s middle is missing, removing both his restraints AND all associations with his purchased quirk. Aoyama can still be a hero without that quirk (and, in fact, his value to the heroes right now has more to do with AFO than a belly button laser). BUT AIZAWA IS BEING HEROIC WITHOUT HIS QUIRK TOO. In this panel, Aizawa is exposing all of his physical weaknesses to the reader. His right eye, right elbow, and right leg are mutilated. Yet you can barely see that in the image. With everything hospital- and quirk-related stripped away, and both characters in clothes that aren’t their own, all you see is the teacher engaging his pupil in a vital lesson. That’s how Aizawa can contribute for now.

Finally, why is 10km (~6.2 miles) the minimum separation distance for AFO and Shig? A few possible reasons:
It’s outside the radius of most radio waves so AFO and Shig can’t communicate easily;
it’s outside the radius of AFO’s gloopy warp (which definitely goes 5km in Kamino but unclear if it can go further than that);
vertically upwards 10km is the separation line of the atmosphere between weather/water vapor and calmer skies (but thinner air and less oxygen; eg, helicopters can’t fly 10km high);
vertically downwards it’s the edge of the earth’s crust (eg, the heat will kill you unless you regenerate like Shig in the Star chapters). For reference, Tartarus is only 0.5km below sea level, and AFO was able to coordinate w/Shig there.
We learned last chapter that the UA buildings can tunnel underground AND can fly (though Power Loader hints this may not be fully operational yet). Given that tidbit, I’m guessing this battle will go all out above and below ground. Also, AFO!Shig has wings and post-Tartarus AFO does NOT have Air Walk. While we’re on the subject, AFO!Shig lost Reflect, which would have been the hard counter to Aoyama’s navel laser, but AFO should still have his copy. Of course, who knows what quirks they’re swapping around with the LOV as they prepare for war!

BnHA Chapter 297: We’re Bustin’ Outta This Joint
Previously on BnHA: Horikoshi did his best to undo all of the good vibes from the Girl Power arc by killing off Midnight. It sucks and I still don’t like it, but it is what it is. Unfortunately, Not Killing Off Your One Female Teacher Character With Any Character Development was worth 30% of his grade for the semester, so it brought his average down all the way to a C-, and so he and his report card will just have to live with that. Meanwhile Ochako did some rescuing, and the other U.A. kids lay around unconscious and/or traumatized. The chapter ended with an abrupt cut to Tartarus, where AFO is apparently just chilling and waiting for the Nearly High Ends to come bust him free. What kind of a cliffhanger is that to leave your fans hanging on for three whole weeks. Who’s suffering more here, the characters or the readers.
Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “okay I know you all want to know what happens to Deku and Shouto and the rest, but have you considered finding out what happens to Overhaul and Muscular and Moonfish and New Girl Character instead?” Fandom is all, “you had us at New Girl Character.” Seiji’s dad is all, “I’m just going to say a bunch of stuff to help make sure none of the readers feel conflicted about cheering on a bunch of mass murderers escaping from prison.” Tomura is all, “dammit AFO why are you still here.” AFO is all, “shhh, Tomura, go back to sleep.” Tomura is all, “wtf but you’re literally hijacking my body and continuing to shred it to bits while we break into BnHA Alcatraz to recruit your own personal Suicide Squad.” AFO is all, “:).” Real!AFO is all, “HERE I AM, EVERYONE, SORRY TO KEEP YOU WAITING.” And then the chapter ends. Geez.

my very first thought was “that’s a long-ass fucking bridge”, and then I went to go google “longest bridges”, and Wikipedia was all “son there are literally a hundred and fifty bridges in the real world longer than 5km, and the longest one is actually 165km”, and I was all “oh shit I really don’t know jack shit about bridges.” then I looked at the list for a few more minutes and realized that the super-long bridges were all built over land, and that the longest bridge over water is only 38km. which is way more reasonable, but also still really fucking long though?? ngl I would freak the fuck out on that bridge. what does any of this have to do with Tartarus you ask?? absolutely nothing, I literally forgot I was reading a chapter for a sec lol uh
anyway, my parting thought on the bridge is that it kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a giant island fortress prison, but whatever. moving on
and the six levels thing is straight out of One Piece lol. something tells me BnHA’s prison break arc isn’t going to be quite as fun. hmm
so now we’re cutting to “the Bronze Gate”, which is the main entrance off of the bridge, and some goat-looking motherfucker is out here trying to become my new favorite character. bro

I kinda feel like “prison guard” is one of those jobs that just sort of naturally attracts shitty people. anyways yeah, Seiji your dad is a real piece of work

for starters, that’s definitely Moonfish in the upper left corner, I’m like 99% sure. not quite clear who that is across from him in the upper right, but it’s been a hot minute since we saw Muscular, so maybe?
and could that be Overhaul in the panel beneath him?? they’re not showing his face so I assume it’s someone we’d recognize, and he’s the only currently-incarcerated villain with that haircut as far as I can recall. though it seems weird that he’s not restrained more given his quirk. If I may, what do you think about the theory that when Shigaraki using decay to much his body decays. It happened with Deika city and in the war arc after taking to much damage (since he wasn't 100 he started falling apart). His upgrade should of fixed the decay part or am I wrong. Also it looked like he completely lost his hand when they showed him in 295 ? But in the following chaps it is there just crumbled like it was before him getting the AFO upgrade. I swear if he ends up dying by his own quirk ....I'll not be happy.

As for the decay harming his body...well...lol, look at the rest of the BNHA cast. They all get hurt by their own quirks. And it's as you said, the upgrade wasn't complete, so his body couldn't handle all that power being forced into it, and it started falling apart on the battle field. Even if he had been given the full four months, that doesn't necessarily mean his body would be immune to the destructiveness of the quirks, it just for SURE means that his body would regenerate from whatever damage it took. Basically, no I don't think there's any reason to think Shigaraki's quirk is going to kill him.
Also, side note because this turned out really long and I didn't have a chance to throw it in here: but I do also think Shigaraki will end up quirkless in the end also. But that's way too much of a long-winded explanation for this already mile-long post.
In regards to Shigaraki dying at all:
Sigh--look. If Shigaraki dies--and that is a big IF--it won't be just because of his quirk. If he does die (I don't think he will but I'll get to that later) then it would be by his own choice and it would absolutely be in a sacrificial manner, meaning he will choose to do it for the sake of everyone else. Because redemptive death is always a possibility, and there is literally only ONE reason that I think Hori would dare choose to go that route, BUT I'll talk about why I do not think that that is even remotely what's going to happen, even with the somewhat sensible choice Hori has with it.
So bottom line is, I don't think Shigaraki is going to die. At all. I'm not worried about it. I'll save the reason why I'm not worried for last to end this post on a good note. I'll start this under-the-cut section off with the ONLY reason I feel like Hori would choose to give Shigaraki a heroic/redemptive death--though I don't think he will:
Shigaraki has no family left. There's not anybody waiting for him to come home, and there's no real set-in-stone-by-the-story situation that shows he will be given a place to go and be taken care of after all is said and done. With Touya, it's obvious. He goes home. With Toga, even though it's not particularly obvious, it's kind of a given that Toga should be given a place with the other teenagers in the story. I want to say at UA even, but it's still too soon to tell. Either way, Toga, a teenager who wants friends who accept her, has an ending waiting for her where she will get that (I doubt her family will come back into her life but we'll see). Shigaraki...I mean what is there for him? I do 100% expect him to be seen as a hero at the end, but like....what comes next. Now look, I do have some of my own guesses as to what will happen afterward, but those are just guesses. There isn't really anything to say that any of what I think will actually happen. SO here is where that tiny lingering concern for redemptive death comes in:
Shigaraki's family, we saw them in the vestige. The concern I have is that Hori will pull the "Kill the villain heroically and show him reuniting with his family in this portal/after-life/alternate plane of existence" trope and call that a happy ending. Because Shigaraki's family left him at such a young age, and he clearly has immense regret over what happened to them. However, I have more reason to believe that won't happen.
It worked for Obito in Naruto, but it won't work here.
Shigaraki's happiness wasn't tied to his family. Yes, he had parents who loved him and wanted him to exist, and a sister who loved him dearly, but his happiness didn't ride on them existing. In fact, he was too young for his happiness to depend on anything. He just needed to be taken care of, accepted, and loved by the people around him. He literally never had any opportunity to form his identity outside of his family, because he was only 5 and had zero control over his life.
Shigaraki dying doesn't fit with BNHA's definition of saving. Midoriya is going to somehow reach Shigaraki's heart and save him from self destruction, and through those actions Shigaraki's redemption will be him destroying AFO--the biggest looming threat over everything else. That's his redemption, his salvation. All that hard work from our MAIN CHARACTER would just be completely pointless if Shigaraki dies. All hope instilled throughout BNHA would go out the window. It wouldn't make sense to end on that note.
And--I'd argue that anybody in the story portrayed as a small child at one point or another (Midoriya, Bakugo, Shouto, Ochacko, Toga, Touya, Tenko) technically has plot armor. (All the UA kids will be fine, but I'm making a point here). BNHA uses children for a lot of things: relaying messages, evoking empathy, evoking emotion, and displaying vulnerability. All things that you typically wouldn't do for your character if you didn't want your readers to root for them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And before people say "BUT THEY'RE ADULTS"--okay, explain:

Again, you don't remind people of a character's vulnerability in this way unless you want the readers to sympathize, and view them as the innocent kids they used to be.
All of Hori's choices to portray the villain trio in such a way, along with their hero kid counterparts, just tell me that he's telling readers: "Look at how the adults in their lives completely failed them. Look at how they deserved better. Look at the redeemable cores they all have." Like...these are choices he's consciously made. And within this particular story, it really says a lot about what he's trying to do here by doing this. I actually talked about it here, because it's actually really important how he uses specific characters' child selves in very specific moments.
SO, TL;DR: I don't think he's gonna die. I'm not worried about the effects of his quirk. I don't think he'll even have a quirk by the end. But even if he does, there's no real reason the author would use it to kill him.

Imagine a version of bnha where the HPSC wasn't taken out in such a cheap way and they actually tried to penalize Hawks for his murder of Twice, maybe throwing him in Tartarus, or Hawks escaping backlash by fleeing the hospital, only to run into AFO as Shigaraki and that'll be our long awaited ShigaHawks meeting, that Hawks never got to fulfill, and AFO promises to use a quirk that could help return his wings, offers a way to get back at the people keeping him like a caged bird all these years.
(Cont.) AFO tells him about OFA and how All Might cost him his victory by withholding information, but there's nothing to be done about it now. They've lost, and Hawks has lost something precious to him, along with his reputation and worth in society. He can't go back now, all he ever was WAS the worth his wings were. Now he's nothing. But it's alright. AFO is here for him now. It's only natural for a caged animal to bite back against unkind owners after all :) give in to your instinct.
(Cont.) Why, it's only your right after all! There's no harm in bringing down that which you gave up so many years of your life for. It's an understandable rage. It would be justice. Almost like you're getting to be a hero again. All he has to do, is bring back Izuku Midoriya. And Hawks will have a place promised for him and anyone else he wishes in AFO's new society. He's quite the useful guy (pawn) after all. AFO understands and sees his real worth and you always wanted to be useful right?
(Cont.) Just typical AFO manipulative things that he doesn't mean and also that he likes to gleefully think he knows about human psych. Maybe he'll even say he'll get Dabi to apologize, he doesn't want infighting between his comrades afterall. So Hawks, in all his "hero is just my job title, we'd be better if they were all wiped out" ways of acting from 231, fakes it. Pretends, get more sly Hawks performances, and then he backstabs AFO 😌 And hopefully didn't take a quirk from him.
Yessss, I was hoping you would go the "Hawks plays along" route! I would love to see the mind games that these two would play with one another too! I love when manipulative people have to fight one another because a battle of wits and planning is just as entertaining, or even more so imo, than a battle of strength.
Hawks having to navigate AFO and the League as a now (even if temporary) quirkless person with only his brain and training to protect him and showing us that a quirk isn't needed to bring down the villains! It's everything I want from BNHA.
I also know a friend has wrote a similar fic with Hawks being sent to Tartarus after the war which, if you haven't read, I'll definitely link!!! It's a good fic so you might have already seen and read it but if not just send me a message!

The blonde sat up in bed reaching out and screaming for Midoriya. But the moment his mind snapped back to reality his arm dropped along with his head; it was the same damn nightmare that’s plagued him since the incident. His body was covered in a sheen of sweat and his heart raced. Fucking nightmare or memory. What sucked is even he wasn’t certain which one it was. Bakugou ran his fingers though his damp hair and groaned. It couldn’t keep going like this, not night after night for a month enduring this struggle with no one to talk to about it. He couldn’t take being here at UA while his friend was out there missing, and only the authorities searched for him. Those inept, useless… Who else knew Midoriya better than himself?! Frankly, a part of him wanted to find the nerd and if he was alive beat his ass to a pulp for making them worry. “Deku is alive…” Bakugou breathed out a reminder. He knew deep down in his soul that his oldest friend was alive somewhere and they just needed to bring him back home.
“Fuck this!” He threw his blanket off and stormed out of the room, heading towards Aizawa’s office. With or without permission, no one was gonna stop him!
“Just let him go,” Aizawa placed a hand on All Might’s shoulder as they watched Bakugou blast away into the sky. If the symbol of peace looked tired before, now he looked simply broken. First his rising successor disappeared and now Bakugou wanted to leave too. For a good reason sure, but he was still worried. Those kids were like his sons and no father would want to see their children end up like this. Aizawa understood this all too well, for despite rarely showing it, his students were like his kids too.
All Might hung his head, “I know…. He wants to find his friend. But it’s been a month with no real sign of Midoriya. And after what happened— I can still sense him, but it’s faint and the connection is strange. What if something’s gone wrong…”
“Don’t you think it. Young Midoriya is tough, I’m sure there is a valid reason for his disappearance. Just be happy the Principal is being understanding and will allow them to graduate when they return.”
“The final semester of their high school career and this had to happen.” All Might squeezed his fists tighter. “I should have killed AFO when I had the chance.”
“Have faith in Bakugou, Toshinori….” ‘I can’t believe I’m saying this,’ Aizawa sighed in his head. “We can trust in him.”
All Might placed a hand over the one Aizawa had on his shoulder, giving it a pat, “I do.” But it wasn’t about trust that had him glum. It was guilt. He knew that despite their rivalry, there was a bond between those boys, and one he did his best to foster over the years. So, if there was anyone that he felt could find Midoriya, it was Bakugou. No, what he hated in himself was the fact they were in this position because he hadn’t been strong enough.
But Aizawa was right. No one blamed him and it wouldn’t help anyone for him to be self-defeatist. He was still a symbol of peace, and more than ever the public, nay the students needed his light. All Might exhaled, he couldn’t thank his old friend enough for helping to convince the principal in letting Bakugou leave on this mission of sorts, even as finals were looming. Hadn’t these kids proved their worth enough to earn their degree? They already had their licenses and they were pivotal in stopping the worst villain in quirk history. All Might stood up, “we should gather the other kids and inform them…”
The room was as silent as a grave after Aizawa and All Might finished informing the rest of Class 1-A of what was going on. It wasn’t very surprising. These kids were close, rather like a small family unit than just friends who have been through so many ups and downs in the last three years it was hard not to be devoted to one another. It had taken a lot of coping for them just to get through Midoriya’s disappearance, and yet here they sat stoic at being told another was leaving. Almost like they saw it coming. And frankly as All Might looked around to all their faces, that was exactly what he read. The girls, tears welling up in their eyes, flushed faces on the verge of letting go. The guys, fists clenched, and jaws locked. Even he could feel the moisture ready to cloud his vision. He missed his defacto son, but these kids… were sad, angry, hurt and needed their support, but they were trying so hard to stay strong.
What do you say in times like this?
“I’m sure…” Aizawa finally spoke up to address the pain, “that some if not all of you would love to rush out there to search for Midoriya. Please remember that the authorities are doing their best to locate him, and your classmate Bakugou has volunteered to assist with the principal’s permission. If there is anything you may cling to in this time, is faith in your friend to find Midoriya.”
More silence ensued, blanketing the room with a new wave of energy. A few gave into silent sobs, while others hung their heads in thought. It was a heavy fog of pressure, like what one may sense before a thunderstorm because it was true that most of them knew it was coming. For the past month, Bakugou paced like a tiger in a cage. The man couldn’t focus on studies and would rip into anyone that even dared to breathe Midoriya’s name in his presence. Something had to give. But they were also frustrated by all the uncertainty. Yes, they were just students, but this was their friends, and they were tired of being treated like children.
Kirishima slammed his fist onto the table. The sudden and loud sound echoing in the still room, causing a few to jump. “I know Bakugou will find him! But at least tell us what the hell happened back there! Why won’t anyone tell us…” his voice petered out as angry tears gathered along the corners of hardening skin threatening to explode. He was angry at Bakugou for not saying a word to him before leaving and frustrated that his friend wouldn’t tell him what he’d seen. None of them had witnessed those final moments, except the hothead. But he was just as frustrated with the adults over the secrecy.
Aizawa sighed and crossed his arms. “We really do not know Kirishima. By the time I arrived All for One was dead on the ground and Bakugou was barely conscious next to him mumbling Midoriya’s name. He remembered them fighting All for One, but once he was knocked unconscious, doesn’t know what happened until we found him. He thinks he remembers seeing a flash of light hit Midoriya at the same time All for One received the final blow, but we do not know what that could be.”
“Right now, I’m sure both of them would want you to let the authorities deal with this and focus on finishing the school year,” All Might chimed in, hoping to redirect their thoughts. “As difficult as it may be, to quit now when you are almost finished would be a shame, and a stain on what they also worked so hard to achieve.”
There were a few minutes of silence as the students pondered their teachers’ words.
“So, do it for them?” Todoroki finally broke the silence and questioned the teachers.
All Might mustered a half smile, “you could say that.”
Iida stood up. “Yes! We will graduate as heroes for them!”
“Let’s make them proud!” Added in Kaminari. He turned to a sulking Kirishima and slapped him on the back. “Dude, Bakugou would kill us if we don’t pass, so let’s not let that happen.”
The young man sighed, but his friend was right. “He so would.”
“That’s the spirit!” All Might pumped his fist in the air with pride at their positive turn around. The rest of the students now join in, standing or stating their intentions to not let the boys down.
“Now that, that’s all settled, let finish today’s lesson.” Groans ricochet around the room at Aizawa killing the mood again. “Yeah, yeah, just get your textbooks out…”

I have, uh, thoughts...
M’kay, I know this has likely been harped on until nothing is left but little bits and pieces, but after reading this latest chapter, I realized what’s been bothering me about this current arc. It’s the imbalance of violence and aggression that is heaped onto Shigaraki.
I don’t know if this is Horikoshi’s intention, and I’m likely looking wayyy too into this, but I’d argue you don’t have your characters say things for no reason. So, if you’ve got a minute, let’s see if I can sort through these nagging emotions of mine.
warnings: manga spoilers 220 - 285, basically, no touch if you don’t want to see the current arc 
Ok. Let’s roll the clock back and look at something Shigaraki told us at the USJ.

Now, while he has changed a lot from these early arcs, that core motivation he carries here is the same. He wants society to see just how fragile and how ridiculous their reliance on a hero state of justice really is. And, I would say that he’s absolutely right in this assessment.

The idea of heroes and villains needs a foundation of violence. They need that evil, almost as much as they need the concept of justice. It’s the age old right and wrong theory. It doesn’t leave space for grey, for nuance, for differences in ideology or upbringing.
However, heroes like to ignore what they can’t fix. Like anyone, they’re human and humans don’t often take pleasure in looking at the uncomfortable. I’d argue that’s why Gran Tourino doesn’t check back in on Kotaro. Yes, he made a vow, but those memories of that crying child being placed with a trusted friend, and not his mother, not Nana, have stuck with him. Nana wouldn’t be any wiser, or any less dead, if he checked in on her son. In chapter 281, we finally, FINALLY see Gran reflecting on that choice both he and Nana made

If he had checked in, Kotaro might have known a different memory of his mother, or he might have at least been able to see the threads of aggression and abuse that were riddling Tenko’s life. He might have seen AFO, manipulating and watching. Might, might, might. No matter how you shake it, everything changes when there’s some kind of monitoring, of looking out for your fellow man.
With that in mind, BNHA’s world state, which is based on hero work, would need a strong set of checks and balances to function properly, to catch those falling into the cracks & I’d argue we don’t see much push for that from the everyday populace.
Which is wild. Because society itself is practically Quirkless. Sure, 80% have a quirk, but in Japan you cannot use your quirk in public. If you do, you run the risk of arrest or classification as a villain.
That is why we see moments like these

Izuku is likely one of the only people in this massive crowd who really has no quirk. There is a horde of people standing there and no one is lifting a finger. It’s kinda a “bread and circuses,” mentality. They look fucking entertained and no one is freaking out except for Izuku, who knows what it feels like inside that goop thing. Instead, they’re all waiting, watching for the next hero, or for All Might to show up. But wait, aren’t there heroes there? It’s a city and this is a massive attack, it’s brought foot traffic to a standstill, surely a hero will get there and save this boy who is literally dying.
Oh. They’re there. But they’re waiting too

They are all “managing,” the situation and hoping Bakugo will survive long enough for someone with the right quirk to come along. Not polling the masses of people to see if any of them could possibly assist in the meantime, no, all these civilians get to watch this miscarriage of “justice.” Don’t worry. If the kids strong enough, he’ll make it.
So far, Shigaraki’s underlying motivation calling for a more rigorous, critical, take on heroes doesn’t feel too far fetched. Looking at chapter 1 alone, the current way things are isn’t right and it’s not fair.
Now, Shigaraki isn’t going about asking for it the “right,” way, but I bet he’d see a similar response even if he wasn’t hurting and maiming people as he goes.
The latter would let him be swept aside just as easily as the former. We see this happen with Stain. The news isn’t talking about the Nomu, or the countless people who were terrorized and hurt. No, they’re talking about the Hero Killer, because just like in our real society, that’s what get the clicks, the likes and the attention. Again, people don’t like to look at things that make them uncomfortable.

Yet, even with this horrifying fact, that Stain could go down in history books as a villain, as someone who gleefully killed others, people, both good and bad, sat up and took notice. Many even identified with his ideals: That heroes are corrupt and they are only in the field for the fame and money. Only All Might was the perfect specimen to Stain. Because this is an idea that people can get behind, to me, that means that others know things are stacked against the underbelly, the downtrodden. But they can’t be bothered to call for change.
On the flip side, Shigaraki, who has a better grasp on the true ills and neglect of hero society is often told he has no “real,” ideology, no real conviction, and this is a theme that’s repeated over and over and over.
Like most things in BNHA, it begins with All Might

Then it’s carried to Stain, Dr. Ujiko, an ally and long time supporter of AFO, to Re-Destro, and, most recently, to Endeavor. They all can’t see what Shigaraki is wanting, what he’s calling for.
It’s easier to name him a monster, a freak, scum, then to listen or to absorb any of what he’s saying.

But, as he says, he’s got convictions. He’s got his father’s, he’s got AFO’s ideas on the ethics and morals of hero society, AFO’s drive to crush OFA, once and for all, and his own deep seeded resentment and neglect toward a broken hero society. Honestly, he’s got more motivation than almost any other character.
And how is he treated? How does Horikoshi show us the “heroes” response? He gives up a heaping of violence. From chapter 270 to 285, Tomura Shigaraki is hit, punched, burned and beat around a whopping 36 times. And, for most of this fight, he is effectively quirkless.
How many hits does he get in? A grand total of 6.
And his first reaction is never to maim, in these moments, instead it’s to talk, to rattle, and to question

He only goes for Endeavor after he’s been burned, likely, without his regeneration abilities, to the point of death. These heroes aren’t aiming to subdue, they’re going in for the kill. And yes, he has just decayed an entire hospital and the surrounding area, the heroes are warranted in their anger and their frustration. After all, they’re the ones who dropped the ball here. This was a “planned” raid and they should have been the only ones in any real danger. They’re heroes, so I’d argue that it’s their job, their life’s mission to save, no matter the cost.
Besides, if they can spare AFO, not once, but twice, they should be trying to spare Shigaraki just as hard.
This has been a long and drawn out arc, with many, many ups and downs, but the one thing I don’t wanna see is the heroes getting a pass. This society has pitfalls and it’s got big ones. People are treated as lesser if they don’t have quirks, or if they have the wrong ones, the ones that don’t make them look normal. People are pressed to the side when they don’t conform and a hero, the current number one, has gotten away with mentally, and physically, scarring his family for over 20 years.
Right now, there are no checks. There is no: who watches the watcher in this world and I’d argue society has suffered for it.
Yet how are we shown how to treat those who don’t agree with us? With anger, untapped rage and physical violence, of course. And this is true of BOTH sides.

At the end of the day, as he said back at the USJ: violence only breeds more violence and while I don’t like predicting future chapters or arcs, I’m hoping that thread won’t be dropped. It’s one of the things that drew me into BNHA and I hope we get to see more, not less, of that grey morality.

--Just a little ficlet I had rolling around in my brain after the latest manga chapter. Can be read as platonic or romantic bkdk. Hopefully not too OOC, and probably some grammatical errors. Enjoy!--

Finding that which is Lost:
It's been days, multiple infuriating days of searching, flying over rooftops and zigzagging through desolate alley ways and getting mostly useless information from the occasional civilian. Bakugou was pissed, hell he'd been pissed since he'd woken up in a hospital only to find out Deku was still unconscious, and then later to a goddamn letter and a nerd who'd gone off to fuck-knows-where. Uraraka had tried to tell him that he was probably just scared more so than angry, that they all were. Naturally he told her to shove it. But more than anything he'd been pissed from the moment that All Might walked right back into the UA dorms, fucking months later, looking absolutely miserable and terrified. The former Pro Hero had barely gotten the explanation out of what he and Deku had been up to before he'd straight up slugged the man. Deku left All Might behind? Deku's pushing everyone away? What the fuck does that even mean? Godammit, didn't he warn the damn nerd not to do this shit?! All Might at least had the decency to look apologetic, as if he knew he deserved the hit.
As he moves the buildings start to blur a bit and he recalls a memory from the recesses of his mind. He and Deku had been very little, he doesn't recall how old exactly, he just knew it was at some point before he had driven a wedge between their friendship, and it was the first time both of their families had gone on a camping trip. The two children had wandered away from the campsite for a bit to explore. He recalls several minutes passing and him and Deku getting separated, and even though /he/ wasn't scared of anything in the woods, he wanted to keep Deku close, you know, just in case, poor nerd would probably bawl his eyes out without him. Sure enough after a few minutes of searching he heard loud sobs and found the green haired boy crouched underneath a tree, his knees all scratched up from taking a tumble. Deku's green eyes lit up in relief upon seeing him and his little heart swelled at the reaction.
"Kacchan!"
 "Stupid Izuku! I told you to stay with me!"
"I know, I'm sorry Kacchan, I guess I got lost."
"Can you walk?"
"Yeah-"
"Well, come on then!"
He grabbed Deku's hand and yanked him upright, then practically pulled him along behind him.
He put on his best All Might voice impression, "It's okay now, ya' know why? Because I'm here so you're not lost anymore. Let's go back Izuku!"
 
If he'd turned behind him, he'd have seen the beaming smile aimed his way.
But all he heard was the small, "Thanks, Kacchan."
 
Back in the present moment, Bakugou was snapped out of his memory by a blur of green, and he abruptly came to a halt on a rooftop. Looking over the edge, he saw down to the street below where there was another flash of green and just as suddenly a figure stepped out, their silhouette half covered in shadows. His eyes widened, he was far away, so he couldn't be sure. But that lightning, the black-green tendrils that trailed the figure, it had to be...it couldn't be. He leapt ahead to the next building over making sure never to lose sight of the ground below, and then jumped down the side to stay out of the figure's line of vision. He silently thanked Hatsume for the upgrades to his gauntlets that rendered them way quieter than usual. As he peaked around the corner he saw the figure walk close to the sides of the building heading his direction. Suddenly their head came under a direct beam of light from a street lamp, and he felt his whole body freeze from the inside out.
The person in front of him, was unmistakably Deku. The teal jumpsuit, worn and disgustingly dirty and covered in various degrees of drying blood, his leg bracers ripped to shreds, those ridiculous bunny ears frayed, and those red shoes that he would recognize anywhere. It was Deku, but not Deku as he had named him, a useless person, incapable of doing anything, and not Deku as the boy himself had taken the meaning, a person capable of anything, full of unlimited promise. No this was Deku as in a doll, a mere foreboding vessel of power and purpose. There was nothing in those green eyes, glowing but soulless. It was Deku, but it was no longer the Deku he knew, and it definitely wasn't Midoriya Izuku.
"I know you're there. Although if you're not here to attack me, then what is your purpose?"
Bakugou flinched at the voice, momentarily having forgotten about "Danger sense", All Might had tried to explain before, but he'd been a little too preoccupied planning how to get around the security at UA to go after Deku to pay close attention to the details.
He figured to hell with it and stepped out into Deku's line of view.
"What the hell do you think I'm here for Deku?"
Now Deku froze, his head raising slightly. His voice came out quiet and hesitant, completely unfitting the ominous aura his appearance gave off.
"Kacchan? Is that really you?"
"Who the fuck else would it be?"
To his surprise Deku started approaching him again, the tendrils of black whip receding and the lightning dimming to nothing. When he was close enough he yanked his hood down, and Bakugou got an up close look at the grime and blood caked on his face, the sunken eyes and black bags of sleep deprivation.
"What the fuck happened to you Deku?"
The green haired boy seemed nearly ready to collapse, as if he was standing upright on sheer willpower and adrenaline alone. Bakugou fought the urge to grab him and throttle him, as fragile as he seemed at the moment, like a breathe would knock him over. Instead it was Deku who grabbed him by the arm as if he couldn't believe his eyes alone, and needed the physical confirmation of his presence.
"I'm glad you're okay. I was worried... after you, you know."
Bakugou felt his anger boil back to the surface.
"Worried about me?! What the fuck?! Worry about yourself for fucking once! Do you have any idea how upset everyone was when you took off after nearly dying, and then left only a fucking letter! How worried sick your mom is?! How scared your fucking shitty friends are?!"
He didn't realize he was shaking until he felt Deku's hand slide down his arm slightly.
"I'm sorry Kacchan, I know I should've talked to you in person. But I had to go, and if I had waited, you would have tried to stop me."
"DAMN RIGHT I WOULD HAVE!"
Silence.
"I told you not to do this shit on your own Deku, I told you not to play the hero on your own. Do you not think I'm strong enough to help you?! Are you actually fucking looking down on me this time?!"
"No, of course not! I told you I've never looked down on you. I just....I can't see you get hurt for me again. I can't risk anyone getting hurt again because of me, because I couldn't do anything to protect them....I can't let that happen! I have to do this on my own. OFA was given to me so I could-"
"You're such a fucking idiot. You think you can take down every fucking villain on your own? Take down AFO on your own?"
The little shit had the nerve to smile awkwardly at him, "I've managed fine so far."
Bakugou yanked his arm out of Deku's grasp, and gestured at his whole body.
"This! This is not fine! You're barely standing, you're covered in blood and you look like you haven't slept in weeks. When's the last time you fucking ate? You can't keep this up Deku, even in his prime All Might didn't handle shit like this. And I know I said some real shitty stuff in the past about you being quirkless, but you are more than just OFA's vessel. You were the one to fucking get that through my head.. that we are more than just our quirks. So what the hell?"
"I-"
"Just let me help you Deku."
"But Kacc-"
"Dammit! It took me years to understand that you genuinely wanted to help me not because you thought I was weak, but just because you're a natural born hero and you care about me or some shit. Just..just let me return the favor for once. You don't have to do this alone."
He turned his head away uncomfortably, suddenly acutely aware of how inept he was at expressing himself in these delicate situations.  How was he supposed to get through to Deku? Would this be enough? The nerd always seemed to be able to read him like a book, he hoped that proved to be the case now.
"Ka-"
He felt his eyes sting with unshed tears. He was running out of options, aside from pummeling the nerd into submission. But for once he wanted to chose a different option.
"Please Izuku." He lifted his gaze to meet his child hood friend's. A silent plea hanging in the air.
In the span of seconds that felt like an eternity they kept eye contact and Deku seemed like he was trying to find something in that contact, like a promise, or a confirmation, whatever it was, he finally sighed and lowered his gaze to the ground.
It was barely a whisper.
"Okay."
Bakugou let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
"Can you walk nerd?" He extended his hand out to the green haired teen who took it right away. He tightened his grip immediately.
"Yeah, but I'm a little sleepy-"
Before Deku could finish, and without a word Bakugou yanked the other teen towards himself and lifted him up. The teen seemed surprisingly small and light in his arms, a far cry from the monstrous visage he painted when they first crossed paths several minutes ago.
As he walked down the blocks and could feel the tension leave Deku's body as his form went slack, he gazed down to see the nerd's eyes slowly closing, he must be exhausted. He kept walking down the vacant streets, on alert for any potential threats, the nerd's weight a comforting presence in his arms.  He assumed the other teen was already unconscious .
 He briefly gazed up and saw the stars through the gaps between the building silhouettes, he thought back again to that time in the forest as kids.
He whispered in the dark, "It's okay now, ya' know why? Because I'm here so you're not lost anymore. Let's go back."
If he had looked down a second time he would have seen the subtle but content smile aimed at him. But all he heard was the small, "Thanks, Kacchan." before the teen fell asleep in his arms.

Summary: A beautiful fairy, fluttering her wings while dancing in the wind...A scene straight from his video games. Tomura never known he would feel such greed. He felt disgusted he is attracted to a hero, so he decides to corrupt you to villainy. The LOV could always use a talented individual like you.  
Notes: So this is a Shigaraki take of “Fairy” ...What can I say I love this concept. The reader is still a hero-sidekick with a wind quirk.

Tomura first saw you when he is watching tv. You are the actress of this chocolate bar commercial. He saw your face before when he was studying about his enemies: Heroes and their sidekicks, but he did not know you are also an actress.
You were hesitant when the Candy Company reached out to you. You never done this before, and you will not consider yourself to be a good actress. However this is your favorite chocolate brand and they promised to give you boxes of sweets on top of the generous payment, so you said yes.
You need to put on a flowery fairy outfit and a pair of translucent wings, along with those pointy ears. Spending hours on getting your hair curled and makeup done is not the most interesting thing either. Flying in the skies can be quite chilly, you frown at the minimal coverage of the clothes. Nevertheless you still did it the shoot, even used your quirk to make the wings flutter as if they are real. The company loves it, they promise you will be their top choice if they ever need this type of commercial again. You thanked them, sneezing from the cold.
The character you play take inspirations from a popular video game, she is a compassionate and caring wind nymph who loves sweets. The acting part is not hard since you have the same personality. It is the cold that really made you suffer.
When Shigaraki saw the opening, he thought it is another ad for the video game, so he paid attention. Then he saw you, in his favorite character’s outfit. The ways your wings flutter makes his heart flatter. How you giggle and said this chocolate is your favorite after a long day of battle.
Kurogiri is less then impressed when he saw Tomura bought ten boxes of the chocolate. Tomura does not even like sweets, he got them just because your figure is on the box.
“Tomura, you shouldn’t spend the league’s funds on frivolous matters like this. Would you even eat them?”
Shigaraki will give them a try but would immediately drop the thought as soon as he tastes the sickening sweetness. Kurogiri got him a poster of you instead, a better picture compares to what is on the box. From that day on the poster hangs in his bedroom, on the opposite wall to his bed, so he can wake up to your lovely smile everyday.
That is when Tomura starts to stalk you on all social media platforms. You are a popular hero with a steady stream of fans, so you will not even notice.
He would look through every picture, especially the ones from the commercial. It is incredible, you are (game character name) in real life! (He loves cosplay girls what can I say)
You would notice a praise comment he left under your posts, under a fake name of course. Thinking it is just another fan, you expressed your gratitude with a simple “thank you.”
Little did you know how Shigaraki felt completely ecstatic about this little interaction. You replied to him!
He would look up videos of you, whether it be interviews or just fan sighting. His odd obsession grows stronger every second. Instead of planning world domination, Tomura is swooning over your fake wings. He added at least 1000 views to the commercial on YouTube, even giving it likes from different accounts. Poor boy got it bad.
If AFO is around, he would be annoyed how you take up Shigaraki’s time (even though it is not your fault), Shigaraki would pout and argue with AFO, but would return to his villain work for some time.
However when he saw you in front of an ice cream shop beside his favorite video game store, he would freeze. You look even more fascinating in real life, even without those flowery clothes. That is when Shigaraki decides he will have you, no matter what it takes or how did you feel about it.
Would probably ask Mr. Compress, the least violent one of his subordinates to take you from your apartment in the night, while you are asleep. He would not want to hurt you himself if you discovered him, and the rest all have violent tendencies...
“Wow, Shigaraki, she is quite beautiful. It’s such a shame you cannot court her traditionally.”
After you are lying safe and sound in a marble, Tomura would scout around your apartment and take items that seems to have sentimental values. Whether it is your laptop, your picture with your family, or your favorite dress. The Candy company allowed you to keep all the clothing from the shot, when he digs that up in your closet, he could feel a bright future ahead of him already.
He might give your items back to you later as rewards if you behave. But you bet the boy is going to make you wear that fairy outfit for him.
You would wake up in a dark room in the hideout, cold and isolated. You thought this is all just some random nightmare, as you have them a lot. So you just curled up and fallen back to sleep. You did not activate your quirk, so the winds could not tell you there is someone else in the room.
Seeing you just flip over and fall asleep again, would amuse Tomura. He knows you could be highly aware of your surroundings thanks to your winds, but how you just do not care... how cute!
So he would turn the light on (Cruel!!! Please do not do this to anyone)
It is morning already? You would stretch your body and reach for your phone to check the time, but you did not feel your wooden nightstand or your phone...Something is not right.
Sitting up, you found that you are on a soft bed of a strange, windowless room, with a man wearing a black hoodie standing in the doorway. The hood hides his face, so you could not tell who he is right away.
You did not scream but work up your winds for defensive measures. “Sir, care to tell me why I am here, instead of in my home?”
Consider him impressed. So calm and collected, as if you are talking to a waiter about your order.Though Tomura would not expect less from a powerful hero like you, he seen how you can uproot trees from the ground.
He chuckles, then lift off his hood. Your blood run cold once you saw that hand over his face; Tomura Shigaraki, the leader of the league of villains, the most wanted criminal in the country.
“Not so calm anymore, right hero?” He tries to come close, but your winds immediately pushed him back out to the hallway, almost knocking him over. You might not be good at closeup combat, but your winds are the best at pushing people away.
Quick reflexes, strong winds. You will be an invaluable asset to his cause, as soon as you submit to him.
You need to work out an escape plan, fast. You are apparently in their lair, and you do not know anything about the structure of this building or its location.
Would Tomura allow that? Of course not. He already injected a dose of temporary quirk-cancelling drug into you, all he needs to do is wait for it to take effect.
So he waited, patiently. Normally he is impatient, but he would make an exception for you, this time.
As you tremble due to the loss of your quirk, Tomura would wrap his hands around your wrists, lifting just one finger so he can savour that look of fear.
“What do you want from me, Mr. Shigaraki?” You were sure that you never crossed paths with him before, so why did he kidnap you?
“After fifteen minutes, your quirk would come back. Then you’re going to put that outfit on and fly for me.” That nymph outfit, you knew it could cause you trouble, more then just a little cold.
It was an order, not a question.

That Lost Child I Once Saw
*MANGA SPOILERS*
When Izuku enters the Void, he’s expecting a lot of things.
For Shigaraki to be strangled by All For One, like the first time they did this. For Shigaraki to be immobilized by shadows, just as he once was within One For All. Even for Shigaraki to be unconscious within his subconscious as the possession takes hold.
What he’s not expecting to see is a little boy, about 5 years old. The crying child he saw before.
He looks like Izuku did at that age. He’s seen himself in his mother’s photo albums, how small he was and his big mop of hair.
The only difference is that this child isn’t smiling. This is a child that needs saving.
He didn’t expect this to be the first thing he saw, but nevertheless, he walks up to the boy. The kid seems way too aware of his surroundings, and when he hears Izuku’s footsteps, he turns around panicked, small eyes widening in fear.
The Hero’s footsteps falter at the action, but he carries on until he’s stood in front of him. The child watches him nervously, and fidgets with his hands.
Izuku can’t help but take note of the scars on his face; across the bottoms of his eyes, and no doubt spreading over the child’s forehead, it’s unmistakable. Though there is no scar over his eye or lips, like Shigaraki already has. But that mole is way too familiar to mistake.
“... Who are you?” Izuku tries to ask nicely, even though he already knows who this is.
The child watches him, but doesn’t speak. He looks afraid, and he’s shaking.
“It’s okay... I’m a Hero. I want to help you.”
Something flashes in the boys eyes, an emotion much older and experienced that Izuku has seen before. It almost mirrors in the child’s expression, face scrunching in anger and hate, and his hair starts to whiten at the roots, slowly inching down dark curls. Quick as a flash, though, the anger is gone, and what replaces it is a sense of wonderment. The white strands regress back to black and everything goes back to normal. It takes Izuku aback, resisting the urge to pull away.
What the hell was that?
“... A Hero?” The child looks up at him, his eyes now shining. He’s stopped shaking too, thankfully.
Izuku nods “That’s right. Could you tell me your name?”
For a moment, the child seems confused. Raising his palms, he looks at them as if they have all the answers. He doesn’t speak, searching, searching his mind.
“I... I’m not sure... My name is... TeOnMkUoRA, I think?”
A second, older voice morphs with his own, echoing from around the void along with the smaller one.
“I’m sorry, what did you say it was?” Izuku is becoming more nervous with this atmosphere, but still he presses on.
“ TeOnMkUoRA .” The child repeats, and still the two voices mix, but the child seems to look more sure of his answer.
“What was that? Tenko? Tomu-” Izuku stops midsentence with the realization and stands straighter. Was that who that second voice was? He whips his head around, looking at the shadows in the distance. “Shigaraki?” he asks the void, as if it will answer back. And of course, only now does it choose to shut up.
This is getting a little too creepy. Where is All For One? Where is Shigaraki? He needs to find answers now, or else he could get trapped here. Or else All For One could steal One For All.
He looks back at the child, a little more shaken. Or maybe... maybe this child is also Shigaraki?
Is that where the dual voice is coming from? From him? But how? And why, why is Shigaraki in this form?
A lost child that needed saving... That’s what Iieda had said about him at Kamino, right? So maybe this is the same, except more literal?
Gulping, Izuku tries to confirm his suspicions.
“Tenko? That’s what you said, right?”
“That’s what I said.” Tenko nods, a small smile now appearing on his face.
“R-Right...” Izuku blinks.
This child indeed seems to be the younger version of the Villain, but it’s also possible that he is only another version of him, and the real older Shigaraki is somewhere else in here. He can’t rule that out. He is basically sharing a mind with Shigaraki after all, and All For One could easily be luring him into a trap.
“Hey, have you seen anybody else around here? A guy with white hair, um... might be shirtless, and he has scars all over his face... kind of like you.”
Tenko thinks for a second. “In here?” he gestures to the surrounding environment. When Izuku nods, the boy shakes his head.
“Ah... what about a tall guy in a suit? And he uh... he has no face. Well, he has a mouth, but no eyes, or hair. Or ears? He smiles a lot.”
Tenko once again shakes his head.
“I’m sorry. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone like that. Or I don’t remember...” The child suddenly holds his head and lets out a low whine, like he’s in pain, and Izuku crouches down to him.
“I’m sorry... I always have trouble with my memory... I don’t think I can-...” Tenko begins to tear up, and tugs at his roots in frustration.
Izuku reaches to the little boys hands and gently guides them away, cradling them in his own hands palm up.
“It’s okay. We can search together. We’ll figure it out.”
The boy sniffles and the Hero’s heart aches for him. Was this really Shigaraki? He seemed interested in Heroes, in both a good and bad way, but he’s so tiny...
Izuku thinks back, briefly, to the first time he’d seen the crying child in the void - little Tenko crying in a garden of some kind. And he was hugging a dog?
What had this child-... no, what had Shigaraki been through to become like this?
Izuku stands and offers his hand. He has to hurry, but he’ll keep Tenko with him, and confirm whether this is, in fact, the real Shigaraki in a smaller form.
He wonders if the child has his quirk by this point, but when Tenko shyly places his hand into Izuku’s, nothing happens.
It doesn’t feel real, that the Shigaraki he knows could be this small. Of course, everyone has been a child at some point, but he’s always known the Villain to be all encompassing and tall. In the mall, he’d towered over Izuku and kept a strong hold on him. He could fit his entire hand around Izuku’s neck. And when he’d shoved his hand at Izuku in the war, it was almost as big as his face.
Now, in a twisted turn of events, Izuku’s hand looks so much bigger in comparison to the tiny one holding his.
The knowledge that this child, who is so small and fragile, could turn into such a violent Villain... it made Izuku shudder.
What even happened to Shigaraki back then?
Together, they walk off into the shadows. Izuku doesn’t know what will happen when they finally find All For One, or even if they’ll find the older Shigaraki, but he’ll make sure to protect them. Both of them.
He just hopes All For One hasn’t done too much damage to Shigaraki’s mind.

Hi uh I decided to try writing a small thing on here lol. This is based on a fun [and angsty] little concept of Izuku meeting Tenko in the void that I like to think about now and again.
First time sharing! And thank you for reading :)
For those confused as to what is going on, please read under the cut: 
This is based on a concept of Izuku entering the void, but instead of meeting AFO and Shiggy again, he comes face to face with Tenko.
The way I see it, the void operates on a state of subconsciousness, so I wonderered if Tomura could possibly regress into his younger self, stuck in his memories of what had happened, constantly replaying the events and wandering for however long the possession lasts as little Tenko in the void.
I actually made a post about it here!
With the morphing, I just really love the idea of a creepy effect where Tenko gets triggered by the sentence of “I’m a hero. I want to help” because of Tomura’s own experiences, so his hair starts to change and that hatred is back, almost like a hardened adult face on a baby face, but only for a moment. An effect of once repressed memories coming back to the surface and also reliving the experiences he had as Tomura with Heroes.
Idk I think Tomura being in his subconscious for so long would fuck him up a bit, and lead his memories to mix up, so much so that he takes on the form of Tenko but wonders about his own memories.
I feel like Izuku would wonder whether this is actually a seperate Tenko away from his real older self that the subconscious conjured up, or whether this is actually Tomura taking on the form of Tenko and he’s just been possessed for so long that he doesn’t remember why he’s like this, or if this is just AFO up to his old tricks and trying to lure Izuku away with something and distract him so he could take OFA.
Also! The name thing with the dual voices, if you can’t read it, is the names Tenko and Tomura mashed together. I just put the letters inbetween each other and bing bang boom - a creepy two-voiced garble lol

there’s something that makes me question what bakugo’s future will be. because deku has his villain and so does shouto and uraraka. but bakugo doesn’t have any?? if you get what i mean like in the final battle or whatever comes in the future bakugo doesn’t have anyone in his mind to fight..which makes me think about that one official art where deku/bakugo/shouto was wearing colored capes and later on we found the yellow cape deku was wearing is gran torino. bakugo was wearing a red one. there’s official art of all might wearing the red cape. imo i think all might will die and bakugo goes after who killed him which would be fit the whole issue bakugo has with being seen as the person who brought down the symbol of peace and will be known as the who brought down his killer and carries the symbol of victory?? what are your thoughts on this?
Bakugo not having a villain nemesis right now could either mean he doesn't need one, or Horikoshi had to make him become a true hero first before giving him one. Most of Bakugo's development was focused on self-improvement after all. The latter does feel weird because of how far into the story we already are, but it's not impossible. There's the Tartarus break out, and new villains being introduced to the story.
As for not needing a nemesis at all, it could be because he will be fighting the 'last boss' together with Deku, or has a completely different role in the finale.
Fighting Shigaraki and/or All for One together feels the most likely to me, since Hori originally planned to use the ending of Heroes Rising for the manga. He may have changed the manga's ending, but I doubt he plans to completely change the fact that Bakugo will be relevant to it. Maybe you can say I'm biased because I'm a bkdk shipper, but I think they were portrayed as "the two pillars" far too many times to just ignore.
Yet at the same time, there's a part of me that doesn't really want him to fight Shigaraki. It doesn't feel like he has that much of a reason to fight Shigaraki. He isn't Bakugo's nemesis, so it feels like he's just tagging along with Deku as a friend, and to do his job as a hero. I like that and all, but I want him to have a much bigger motivation than just that.
As for having a completely different role, it could be literally anything. I don't like this theory, but that role be about time traveling and being the second user of OFA. Or as you said, it could be about Bakugo bringing down All Might's killer and carrying on the symbol of victory. I don't think there's any certainty of that happening, unlike the Dabi is Touya thing where it really just had to happen, but it's still a really cool possibility.
Also, the person he'd be taking down doesn't have to be his 'nemesis'. Deku, Ochako, and Shoto's opponents are all character foils, and there's plenty of comparisons between them, foreshadowing, and preparations for their big clashes as early as the Summer Training arc. It's probably a little late to have huge preparations like that for Bakugo and his opponent. I wouldn't really call them a nemesis, since that type of thing is more for the long-standing archenemy.
But if we take into account who will kill All Might, we could go back to the possibility of Deku and Bakugo fighting together against Shigaraki and/or AFO. It has to be either of them. All Might's death has been foreshadowed for far too long, so we know it's gonna be a huge thing. I just don't see a small-fry villain, a newer character, or some other member of the LOV doing it. In that case, this could be Bakugo's new motivation to fight Shigaraki.
So we can have Bakugo having a real opponent and a bigger reason to fight them, bkdk fighting together, and Bakugo carrying on the symbol of victory (while Deku becomes a symbol of hope)? Sounds like a win.

When you think about the individual statistics of the bnha / mha characters, no other person has lost as much as Shigaraki Tomura has.
Let's see a list of the people he has lost so far:
Nana Shimura, his grandma from his father side (dead).
His grandma from his mother side (dead).
His grandpa from his mother side (dead).
Nao Shimura, his mother (dead).
Kotaro Shimura, his father (dead).
Hana Shimura, his sister (dead).
Mon-chan, his dog (dead).
Kurogiri, his parental figure (captured).
AFO, another terrible parental figure (that man never loved him I mean).
Magne, a friend (dead).
Twice, a friend (dead).
Mr. Compress, a friend (captured).
Giran, a friend (captured).
Toga, a friend (unknown location).
And now he doesn't even have his own body. This boy has lost like no one on this manga. And the people who hasn't died, they have several consequences like losing fingers, losing arms, etc.
The deaths surrounding Shigaraki are also more explicit and terrible than the rest. He has witnessed himself a good number of those deaths, at least half of them. All of them have been directly related to him, which means Shigaraki can freely blame himself for what happened, even if those were accidents and even if the people actively choose to participate on the actions that lead them to their deaths.
Shigaraki has the greatest killing rate, thanks to the big waves of his quirk he used both on the MVA arc and the War arc.
He has all the reasons to believe he's a monster. The problem comes when you realize he is a created monster, he wasn't born like that, contrary to what AFO has suggested before. What happened on the MVA and the War arc are twin situations to what happened with Tenko the night his quirk awoken. He lost his mind and the control over his quirk, leading to great catastrophes. We have evidence that he was not thinking clearly on those moments of great kill, but he was rather in great pain and very very scared, tortured by his mind. That pain and fear was caused by a great abuse that generated the feeling of pure hatred. In his three big killings, there's a pattern of him remembering his past and what happened with the Shimuras.
Now, almost half of the people on the list above choose to sacrifice themselves. Three of those people do it in order to save Tomura: Nao Shimura, Kurogiri and Mr. Compress. They have in common that they acted as Shigaraki's parental figures. We could include AFO, but only if we see what happen on Kamino from Shigaraki's perspective. We could include Twice but he was not exactly sacrificing himself consciously, he wanted to scape alive.
Two people on that list tried to kill Shigaraki: Kotaro and AFO. Both tried to shape his mind into what they wanted it to be and that lead to Tomura being unstable and sometimes unpredictable. We can see the symbolism of this in the fact that Kotaro's hand was always over Tomura's face, almost wanting to erase his identity, and when AFO possessed Tomura one of the first things we saw was him tearing apart Tomura's face. Other moment related to this is Tomura's confession to Doctor Ujiko in the beginning of My Villain Academia, were he states that he couldn't remember clearly his life before AFO. With limited information, including the years of manipulation from AFO, Tomura came to the conclusion he would never be satisfied and he would rather destroy it all– except what his colleagues wanted to save.
However, the majority of the people on that list loved Tomura and wanted to see him safe. What does this boy has that people keeps sacrificing themselves in order to try and save him? What makes them want to save Tomura?
Not matter how hard AFO tried to make a monster out of Tomura, we see how people keep reaching for him seeking comfort or even seeking a better future. For some reason, Tomura generates love in the hearts of those closer to him. Magne, Twice, Giran, Kurogiri, Mr. Compress, all of them gave beautiful speechs of love and acceptance, of protecting the people they like, of working towards a better future. Nao ran towards her son, Hana apologized for leaving him while being scared.
Or if you like, let me give you the maximum example: Deku changed drastically his hero path after witnessing himself who exactly was the real Tomura Shigaraki.
The reason why Deku looks like a villain on the last chapters is because there's a war inside of him– and also because it's the closes he has ever been to understanding the villains, by being on their shoes. While peeking through Tomura's mind Deku finally realized the reality of the hero society condition, and Deku is currently on a painful progress of growing, along with going through a phase of being an outcast and a rejected kid himself. Like a child exposed to war, or like a child getting more mature after a big trauma, Deku is reshaping himself in the light of what he knows now but didn't know before. Living on the streets, not eating enough, having people wanting to put you aside so you wouldn't alter their safety or peace, being painted as a problem or an object or a weapon rather than being seen as a human being in need of help...
While AFO's plan was to make Tomura suffer to increase his hate, he couldn't predict that Tomura would be the one to inspire Deku to love in a way he has never love before. Tomura's breaking point was also the breaking point for Deku, but while Tomura dives into the darkness, Deku fights his way over the stormy clouds to reach for the light.
Ultimately, everything surrounding Tomura is exactly what allows MHA / BNHA to be the story of how Deku became the greatest hero out there. The fact that Tomura refused to give up, refused to be who everyone wanted to be... even if he fails again and again, what counts here is that he is unbreakable. Even in the deep of his conscious, he awaits for another chance. Deku and Tomura are the ones who surpassed any limits, any expectations, in order to produce a real change in the roots of society itself.
So you can say that in parallel with Deku, (and there are some interesting implications in this one), Tomura hasn't been defeated by the rain either. Like two sides of the same coin, either they drown together or rise together.

101 Open MHA Gen Prompts
I had a very long ask game where people gave me fake titles and I came up with fic ideas to go with them.  Multiple people asked to use some of them as prompts, and some of my friends have lately maligned the lack of gen prompts out there, so I decided to compile them all into a single post.  Almost all of these are gen, aka not shipping, but you can do what you want I’m not your boss.  Everything is free and open to use WITH CREDIT, so have fun with my word vomit.
1. In Dreams I Had the Sun - Being the number one hero isn’t all it’a cracked up to be, Toshinori realizes early on
2. The Chainlink Fence that Held the Ocean - In his new book post-retirement, All Might opens up about his regrets, struggles with mental health, and his issues with the hero system as a whole.  The backlash is swift and intense.
3. Welcome to the Loud Silence - After an injury, Izuku is rendered deaf.
4. Water Since Turned Red - After a villain attack nearly kills All Might, the beach where Izuku used to go to find comfort now feels tainted.
5. all scrap left untouched is bound together - A group hero students who failed the provincial license exam for the third time, effectively ending their careers before they start, get together to take revenge on UA’s first years who beat them out.
6. You’ve saved more more times than you know - Times All Might saved people without his powers, just by being a cool, nice dude.
7. No Amount of Tragedy Can Justify Your Actions - A dying All for One tries to justify his centuries of cruelty to an uncaring Toshinori.
8. To Leave a Cage Locked - One for All is conscious and has a will of its own, one that doesn’t always line up with Izuku’s wellbeing.
9. Okay, who let in the Kraken? - Izuku is the reincarnation of an ancient eldritch horror.
10. keep us alive up above - Izuku and Shigaraki get trapped together somewhere.  Izuku knows he needs the villain’s help to survive and escape, but the other would rather they both die.
11. The world will revolve around me neither less - The ebbs and flows of AFO’s influence over the years.
12. More Roulette, Not Russian - Kids get their quirks swapped.
13. Patron Saints - Toshinori teaches a class about pre-quirk superhero comic characters and their influence.
14. Don't Come Back - Touya Todoroki’s first few weeks after a severe injury resulted in his father abandoning him.
15. The Blessed and the Fool - Toshinori meets up with a few of his ua classmates after retiring.
16. Not Your Sacrifice - Some of the other kids have started adopting some of Izuku’s self sacrificing habits and the teachers are concerned.
17. Break in the Storm - Villains use a power outage as an opening to break into ua.
18. One Day Those Consequences Will Finally Catch Up - Even though the teachers don’t take her concerns seriously, Inko saves every piece of evidence regarding people hurting her son.
19. a garden in their eyes - Izuku meets a fan who got injured after trying to step into a villain fight, just like he did, and it makes him question some things.
20. what could have been, if not for you - After Inko divorces him, Hisashi’s goes to the press to say All Might stole his wife and son.
21. Promised Misery - All Might finds out the severity of Bakugou’s bullying, and warns him he’s on thin ice with him.
22. Fly Up Higher, Blossom Brighter - Izuku has to write a paper for middle school about being positive, intercut with all the bullshit he has to deal with.
23. Libre Me from Hell - One of Izuku’s new quirks is spiral related.
24. No One to Blame but Yourself - Izuku’s kindness doesn’t extend to murderers, tragic backstory or not.
25. At Its Finest - Izuku accidentally gets involved in a hero commission coverup.
26. A Rising Issue - Izuku starts developing more severe side effects of his injuries.  He’s convinced he’s under the influence of a quirk, while the adults thing he’s finally gone too far hurting himself.
27. What you are in the Dark - Izuku usually keeps most of his anger to himself until he can’t.
28. nowhere to go - Inko moves into UA after their home was destroyed.
29. Something Without - My theory about the 2 OFA vestiges that are blurred out is they don’t approve of izuku as a successor.  Izuku tries to figure out why. 
30. Walking with a Ghost - Toshinori joins the OFA dreams while he’s in a coma.  He gets to reunite with nana, and is more open to Izuku about his past and feelings.  Part of his starts to wonder if it’s worth waking up, since he will die and join the others eventually.
31. Death By Crying - Izuku is affected by a quirk that will suffocate him if he expresses any emotion.
32. Justice is Subjective - The hero commission gets to Shigaraki before AFO does.  
33. Undo / Underdog - Death loop fic.  Izuku keeps reliving the day he met all might after being killed by the sludge villain.  he has to find a way to break the loop and survive, but he gets s little weaker every time he restarts.
34. Like Wildfire - A rumor that Izuku is All Might’s bio son picks up steam, and the characters have to decide whether to deny it but risk suspicion or play along and add a new layer to the lies protecting one for all.
35. Once Upon A December - All Might and Inko actually met in the past trope.
36. Some Legends Are Told - All Might’s first interview post-retirement.
37. Will The Real Mentor Please Stand Up - Aizawa considers himself the better teacher, but a lot of the kids seem to like All Might more.
38. I don't want the cure, I want the POISON! - Inko is killed in a hit and run, and Izuku becomes desperate to find the killer.
39. I will kill my heart before I dance on stage for these bigots - Izuku is interviewed as a rising star of UA, and the interviewer brings in some of his old bullies because they claimed to be his friends from middle school.  Izuku does not play along.
40. Split Ends - A quirk gives Izuku brief visions of what would have happened if he made different decisions.
41. Dreamless Sleep - A One for All dream leaves Izuku with a cryptic half-warning, and he desperately experiments to try and figure out how to trigger the visions to get the rest of it.
42. toxic flowers and pretty blades - Young Inko escapes the constricting life of her cruel wealthy family by becoming a vigilante.
43. The Suns we Orbit - Some of the other teachers believe Izuku is too codependent on Toshinori, and separate them for a time.
44. Submerged - Similar to those buried alive fics only someone’s in a box at the bottom of the ocean.
45. Deprive - Izuku also loses his stomach to an injury, and struggles to adjust to the necessary lifestyle changes.
46. The ashes fall like snow - Post Kamino cleanup.
47. Home will always be here - Inko cares for Izuku after he’s sent home due to “trouble at work study” but he refuses to clarify what that means.
48. Playing Favorites - A look at several times where Izuku was punished, while Bakugou got off scot free.
49. Elusive Dreams - Some kind of training or issue forces the kids to stay away for several consecutive day, and they start losing it.
50. Fracture - Izuku struggles through physical therapy after a severe injury that leaves his hero career in question.
51. Starlight, Starbright - Space cadet au
52. Someone in Your Corner - Gran Torino looking after Nana, Toshi, and finally Izuku through the years.
53. I cast magic missile into the darkness - Generic “the gang plays d&d” fic.
54. One Month At A Time - Izuku breaks a limb, and has to let in heal naturally over the course of several months.
55. Head Above Water - Izuku runs out of his pain meds and can’t get access to more doses for a while, so he has to endure not only the pain, but the withdrawal symptoms.
56. Are you going to leave a path to trace - All Might uses a new strategy to try and get Izuku to be less self sacrificial: what about all the young kids who are going to look up to him?
57. The View from Halfway Down - Izuku realizes that a risky move has just landed him with a potentially life threatening injury, but the fight it still going.
58. The Dust Bites Back - A villain All Might defeated early in his career is back and out for revenge.
59. The Absence of your Worth - Nighteye thinks he’s put together a rock solid case for why izuku isn’t worthy of One for All.  All Might’s response is to ask if he has something against quirkless people.
60. Behind the Screens Nobody is Afraid - All Might explains some of the context of his most popular hero videos to Izuku.  They are much more tragic than the media has spun them in hindsight.
61. Under the Light of the Moon - Someone gets turned into a werewolf.  And I ain’t talking the wattpad piss shit.  I’m talking full-on back-breaking monstrous transformations into a bloodthirsty abomination set to Bad Moon Rising.
62. some dreams were made to be broken - Bakugou crosses a line and finally gets expelled.
63. You Say You're Into Closure - Izuku finally beats Bakugou in a one on one fight fair and square, but Bakugou is a sore loser.
64. Something or Someone Missing - AU’s memories of Izuku get wiped, but those closest to him can’t help but feel an absence.
65. Too Little Too Late - Izuku’s father returns to find he’s been replaced.
66. Collecting Dust - Inko goes through the stuff Izuku didn’t take to the dorms.
67. Where the souls of wanderers go - Toshi meets up with a retired hero support group.
68. Fragility of Trust - Suspected traitor au
69. no one answered - Izuku is trapped in a cell in a building that’s collapsing in slow motion due to a quirk.
70. Eye of the Storm - One of the other kids has a panic attack for the first time between public appearances.  izuku has never seen from from the outside.
71. To Whom It May Concern - The kids find a mysterious collection of letters from previous students hidden in the ceiling of the classroom.  Some are ominous, some are incomprehensible.  Aizawa has no answers.  They enthusiastically go to try and solve the mystery within, but that excitement quickly diminishes the more they find out.
72. Of Popsicles and Ponytails - All Might gets in a discussion with the other teachers about whether the Clark Kent glasses thing would actually work.  All Might bets them it does, so he goes around town with no disguise other than his hair being up, and no one bats an eye.
73. All Men are Not Born Equal - Word gets out to the public that izuku used to be quirkless.  Everyone finds out just how deep anti-quirkless sentiments run when some begin to question whether a quirkless kid should be at ua, regardless of whether or not he has a quirk now.
74. Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies - Something about encountering death in person for the first time being the dividing line between child and adult.
75. Sins of the Father - All for One has had many children over the centuries, and has made numerous attempts to groom them into the ideal heir with several different methods.  None of them worked though.
76. Where The Dead Come To Rest - The kids come home after a long, grueling mission where they saw some shit, and are too tired to process what they went through.  They take off their gear for plain clothes, then sit in the common room in silence long into the night, not wanting to open themselves up but also not wanting to be alone.
77. Rivalry - Nighteye tries to pit Izuku and Mirio against one another.  It goes right over Mirio’s head, but Izuku becomes convinced the other boy is in on Nighteye’s plan to wear him down until he gives up One for All.
78. A Subtle Language - All Might and Nana never said out loud that they loved each other, but little things told them that they did.  All Might hopes to pass a similar love down to his own successor.  But Izuku is very different than himself as a kid, and he needs to learn a new subtle language of affection.
79. It’s Gone - One for All stops working one day.
80. A Sight For Sore Eyes - All Might looking after Izuku in the aftermath of the second movie.
81. Loose Lips (sink ships) - Bakugou blurts out something about One for All during a rage, so the rest of the class jump on him and Izuku for answers.
82. No Expectations - Word gets out that All Might is going to choose a successor.  None of the theories or speculation online resemble Izuku in the slightest.
83. Eden was Only a Garden - Izuku gets hit with a quirk that erases some of his most traumatic memories, but in doing so loses part of who he is.
84. Run it Down - With all Izuku’s new quirks and his incredible skill, some of the other students with similar powers (Iida, Sero, Uraraka) start to feel like izuku is upstaging them.  And it affects their friendship.
85. Fool's Gold - Bakugou grows even more jealous of Izuku having One for All, and his relationship with All Might.  He thinks that if he could just prove himself to be more worthy, All Might would change his mind and name him his successor.  But in reality, he ends up jeopardizing the relationship they already have.
86. somewhere down the road - The final deadline for Nighteye’s predictions passes, and All Might lives.  He debates telling Izuku, as even though it would be a weight off the boy’s mind, he doesn’t want to jinx it.  He will still die eventually after all.
87. Just For You - All Might has certain rules and boundaries for fan interactions that he completely ignores for Izuku.
88. if these walls could talk (their whispers would be maddening) - Montage of training accidents in a ‘cursed’ ua gym
89. If Only I Could... - Nighteye tells Mirio about One for All, including that he thinks he’s more deserving than Izuku and he plans to pressure him into giving it up.  Mirio struggles with the knowledge that his mentor, someone he respected more than anything, only saw him as a replacement for All Might, meanwhile watching Izuku strain under the pressure of that mentor’s impossible expectations.
90. This is a Test Designed to Provoke an Emotional Response - shameless Blade Runner AU
91. Once and for All - Retelling of the Superman story “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?” with All Might.  Some new heroes use much more aggressive and violent tactics against villains while also upstaging All Might.  That, and there general approval from the public cause All Might to question his moral code.
92. Sitting In The Rain - Tsuyu likes to just sit out in the rain sometimes.  Not do anything, just sit there.  Some friends decide to join her.
93. At Sundown - Mysterious creatures start attacking ua every night.  The gang works tirelessly during the day to find the cause and a solution, while defending their school and each other at night.
94. The 1000th time's the charm - Uraraka has been practicing a new move in secret but they just can’t get it right.  She wants it to be perfect before showing it off.  But one attempt gets her seriously hurt while training alone at night in one of the gyms, and she’s too hurt to get up to the phone to call for help.
95. Sunflower Seeds - All Might attempts to start a garden as a new hobby.
96. What It Means To Be Human - Sun god Toshi starts living among people.
97. Eyes on Me - All Might teaches Izuku some unarmed fighting moves to defend himself from bullies.
98. one remains - Izuku has developed all but one of the quirks he’s slated to, and he has no idea what it will be.  Anxiety ensues.
99. Come Back Home - Izuku vanishes from campus and everyone assumes he was kidnapped, but in reality he ran away to try and clear his head after a depressive spiral.  He goes by train as far away as he can until he comes to his senses and calls the others.
100. I Won - Izuku accidentally managed to kill Shigaraki during a skirmish, and while everyone around him praises his heroics, he struggles to deal with the fact that he killed someone.
101. Ivory Tower - All Might grapples with how much izuku suffered as a quirkless person, how he could have done more for quirkless rights in his time as a hero, and how now people may not care as much because he’s retired.

BnHA Chapter 286: VESTIGE ANTICS ARE A GO
Previously on BnHA: Deku was all “what’s the record for most consecutive bone breaks within the span of a single minute” and, without waiting for an answer, proceeded to unleash roughly 17 Smashes onto Tomura. Kacchan was all “THAT DOES IT, I’M TAKING THE REINS OF THIS SHITSHOW” and carried Endeavor and Shouto up to where the action was so Endeavor could hit Tomura with a Prominence Burn. AFO was all “Tomura would you rather burn to death or let me take over your body” and Tomura was all “...” and so AFO TOOK OVER and was all “STABBITY STABBITY” and used his Stabbing Quirk to do some Good Old Fashioned STABBIN’. First he stabbed Endeavor, and then he was all “hee and now I’m gonna stab Deku”, but Kacchan was all “SIR THAT’S MY EMOTIONAL SUPPORT RIVAL” and so he rushed on in AND GOT HIMSELF STABBED INSTEAD. And so basically THIS PAST WHOLE WEEK HAS BEEN A RIDE, LET ME TELL YOU.
Today on BnHA: Kacchan is all “sup Deku lemme just downplay how I totally took this fatal blow for you just now” before he dramatically passes out and is caught by Todoroki “BTDUBS I CAN FLY NOW” Shouto, who is also carrying his dad because the kids really are just doing it all, here. AllForRaki Tomura For One is all “HAHA BAKUGOU IS PRETTY DUMB”, at which point Deku just LOSES IT ENTIRELY and ASCENDS INTO A NEW PLANE OF FURY LIKE A LITTLE GREEN RAGE BUDDHA. But then like two seconds later Tomura is all “ANYWAY, SO” and FUCKING TOUCHES DEKU’S FACE, CAUSING THE TWO OF THEM TO ASTROPROJECT INTO THE FREAKY OFA/AFO MINDSCAPE BECAUSE THIS CHAPTER IS BANANAS. Vestige!AFO is all “reports of my demise were greatly exaggerated but aren’t you glad I saved your life though, Tomura”, while Tomura is all “!!” because he’s hopefully starting to get A Clue, and meanwhile Deku just stands there watching all “what the fuck.” The chapter ends with SHIMURA MCFUCKING NANA showing up all, “HI, I HEARD SOME BITCHES WERE TRYING TO HAVE A GIRL POWER ARC, AND THEY DIDN’T INVITE ME.” Go on, Nana. Give ‘em hell.
you guys. I’m not normally one to take pleasure in another human being’s misfortune. shit. okay let me just try and sum this up as quick as I can
so just in case it wasn’t already crystal clear, AFO’s soul being roommates with Tomura’s seems to be just about 100% confirmed now. good for you, All For One For All theory!! the “Kacchan loses his quirk” theory died so that you might live on in glory
AFO does seem to have almost fully taken control now. it looks like Tomura’s still fighting back, but AFO clearly has the upper hand now if their body language is any indication. Tomura on his knees with AFO calmly holding him down and ignoring his struggles... not looking too good for him at the moment
people seem to have somewhat lost sight of this in the midst of the great “heroes vs. villains Who Is Right Who Is Wrong What Are Morals” debate of 2020, but just a friendly reminder that AFO is in fact responsible for 100% of all of Tomura’s suffering from pretty much the moment he was born up till this very moment we’re now witnessing!! like, you can go ahead and blame Nana and Gran and The Complacent Apathy Of Hero Society and whatever the fuck else from here till Sunday, but All for One is the reason Kotarou was orphaned. All for One is almost certainly the reason why the seemingly quirkless Tenko suddenly just magically developed THE MOST FUCKED UP QUIRK OF ALL TIME at the worst possible moment. All for One is probably the reason why no one helped Traumatized Baby Tenko in the immediate aftermath (I can and likely will write a separate post about this in the near future). All for One is definitely the reason why no one helped Tenko at any point after that. All for One is the reason why Tenko grew up all fucked in the head (“HERE’S YOUR DEAD FAMILY’S HANDS, MERRY CHRISTMAS”), and the reason why he grew up blaming Heroes and Society rather than the sole person who was actually responsible who was literally standing right in front of him the entire time. and lastly, All for One is the reason why Tomura has now been manipulated into unknowingly sacrificing his own body and possibly even his mind. so THANKS A LOT FOR THAT. more like jerk for one amiright
basically what I’m trying to say is that Deku and Tomura are not actually enemies here, and they never have been. the two of them have a common enemy, and I’m convinced Tomura’s story is about him eventually coming to realize this. and this looks to be the first step towards that, for two reasons. one, because AFO is finally starting to out himself to Tomura as the rat bastard he has always been. and two, because Deku is catching a glimpse of this now for the very first time. up until now he didn’t have a damn clue lol. but this is now something for him to file away in the back of his mind, and perhaps follow up on at a later date, once all of this craziness finally subsides and he has some time to process
anyway, so that’s basically it! tl;dr AFO is the final villain and unless I’m very much mistaken, this scene is going to finally start to set that up. let’s read on!
