Top Five Green Day Albums
To celebrate the release of Saviors, here's a list of my favorite Green Day albums! Note: I have been a fan of theirs since 1992.
Revolution Radio
Tumblr media
Tell me to pick my favorite song from this album, and I simply couldn't do it. It speaks do me in a way that no other Green Day album has.
2. American Idiot
Tumblr media
Do I really need to say anything? It's a masterpiece!
3. 21st Century Breakdown
Tumblr media
I liked all of these songs immensely except for "21 Guns". The line "one, twenty-one guns" grates on my ears, and I don't why. I'll blame my sensory processing issues.
4. Saviors
Tumblr media
This album may have just released, but I already know it belongs in the top five. Some of the songs have an American Idiot vibe and others remind me of their earlier stuff. So far, I really like "Father to a Son", "Goodnight Adeline", and "Dilemma".
5. Warning
Tumblr media
Here's the precursor to American Idiot. I played "Macy's Day Parade" and "Church on Sunday" one too many times, and now the songs are permanently seared into my brain.
Honorable Mention:
Dookie
Tumblr media
As a adolescent, I played this album on repeat. And the album cover is truly amazing and awesome!
Well, that's all I have for today. Until next time, take care and stay curious.

Lights of Egan is a new songwriting/recording collaboration between myself - Cameron DeVries, and Ira Denis. We plan to release our first single, Crystal Kinda Girl, set for a tentative date of January 10, 2025. It will feature the very talented English singer/songwriter Daniel Sitch aka Cregalodon, whose recent single releases include "Bluebird" and "Tainted" (instagram @danielxsitch). Our song CKG is being produced by the skilled Nir Tsfaty, from Australia, who writes, produces, and performs a ton of his own great original music (instagram @nirtsfaty) #LightsofEgan #CrystalKindaGirl #NewMusicComingSoon

Release: October 10, 2004
Lyrics:
It's quiet now and what it brings is everything
Comes calling back, a brilliant night, I'm still awake
I looked ahead, I'm sure I saw you there
You don't need me to tell you now that nothing can compare
You might have laughed if I told you
You might have hidden your frown
You might have succeeded in changing me
I might have been turned around
It's easier to leave than to be left behind
Leaving was never my proud
Leaving New York, never easy
I saw the light fading out
Now life is sweet, and what it brings I tried to take
But loneliness, it wears me out, it lies in wait
And all not lost, still in my eye
Shadow of necklace across your thigh
I might've lived my life in a dream, but I swear, this is real
Memory fuses and shatters like glass
Mercurial future, forget the past
It's you, it's what I feel
You might have laughed if I told you (it's pulling me apart)
You might have hidden your frown (change)
You might have succeeded in changing me (it's pulling me apart)
I might have been turned around (change)
It's easier to leave than to be left behind (it's pulling me apart)
Leaving was never my proud (change)
Leaving New York, never easy (it's pulling me apart)
I saw the light fading out
You find it in your heart
It's pulling me apart
You find it in your heart
Change
I told you forever (find it in your heart)
I love you forever (it's pulling me apart)
I told you I love you (find it in your heart)
I love you forever (change)
I told you forever (find it in your heart)
I love you forever (it's pulling me apart)
I told you I love you (find it in your heart)
I love you forever (change)
You might have laughed if I told you (it's pulling me apart)
You might have hidden your frown (change)
You might have succeeded in changing me (it's pulling me apart)

Great Things about Being a Spooky Adult
Tumblr media
— Decorating your office/cubicle/desk with Halloween decor and spooky office accessories.
— Driving into the parking lot with your windows rolled up as your beloved dark tunes rattle the windows. And on the drive home, destressing by turning on a playlist composed of songs about vampires and graveyards.
— Incorporating your dark aesthetic into your work wear such as bat earrings and Tim Burton-y striped blouses.
— Going to run errands and seeing a group of black clad teens outside of Hot Topic huddled together reading manga. Then feeling the crushing urge to pinch their cheeks, clean up their eyeliner with a makeup wipe, and hand them all cupcakes with bats sprinkles.
— Treating yourself for all your hardwork by purchasing from all the cool Goth brands that your teen self couldn't afford.
— Seeing all the elitists, bullies, and gatekeepers from your days of youth grow out of it and become the very thing they mocked.
Please add your own! :)

Today's compilation:
The Water Music Compilation Album 1988 Pop-Rock / Adult Alternative / Power Pop / New Wave / Americana
I really wish I had something good to say about this album so I could write glowingly about the small and humble beginnings of the highly trafficked recording studio that all its songs were recorded in, but, truth be told, there's really not a single track on this LP that's actually very good at all. An assortment of very ephemeral acts that you've never heard of, contributing mostly exclusive songs, a lot of which almost sound like they were striving to get into adult alternative radio rotation back in 1988, despite their total obscurity. Just pretty uninteresting rock material that I would care to not ever hear again, to be honest 😒.
But Hoboken, New Jersey's Water Music studio had to start somewhere, right? A prime location that's just a hop, skip, and a jump away from New York City, and where everything's so much cheaper too, was bound to attract both up-and-comers and veterans with modest careers alike. And then you develop the space into a residence as well, so acts can avoid those insane, city-slicking lodging expenses next door. Plus, there's great food and nightlife in Hoboken too, so when you're done recording for the day, you can just walk outside and be amid some good ambiance in almost no time. It's the town with the most bars per capita in the entire country, after all; more than New York, even. So, lots of selling points to this place, especially for musicians.
And this comp itself, even though I didn't enjoy it at all, still serves as a pretty important document, for the sole fact that it shows just how small-time this studio actually was at a certain point. Because look where it fucking is, now, folks!
Tumblr media
Good lord, what a list! There are so many huge names on this thing! I mean, Vertical Horizon, Rusted Root, and even SR-freaking-71?! You better send me on my way, right now, because clearly, this Water Music place is everything you want from a recording studio! Even Tonic agrees!
(these are jokes, by the way.)
So, judging by just how meager this late 80s comp from Water Music really was, the studio evidently had a long way to go before growing into the industry juggernaut that it would eventually become. Unfortunately, I can't rave about how it started as a storybook, diamond-in-the-rough indie darling of sorts and then point to any killer, underheard tracks from its earlier days, because it actually seems to have risen from a place that was even lower than that; one that turns out to have not really been very remarkable at all in the first place. But that actually kind of makes their whole story all the more remarkable anyway, doesn't it? 🤔
No highlights.

Lyrics:
Your fingertips across my skin
The palm trees swaying in the wind, images
You sang me spanish lullabies
The sweetest sadness in your eyes, clever trick
Well, I'd never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me
Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do
We walked along a crowded street
You took my hand and danced with me, images
And when you left you kissed my lips
You told me you would never, never forget these images, no
Well, I'd never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me
Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do
I cannot go to the ocean
I cannot drive the streets at night
I cannot wake up in the morning
Without you on my mind
So you're gone and I'm haunted
And I'll bet you are just fine
Did I make it that easy
To walk right in and out of my life?
Songwriter: Alison Sudol
Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Why can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do
SongFacts:
"Almost Lover" is a song written and recorded by A Fine Frenzy, the stage name of American singer-songwriter Alison Sudol. It was released May 22, 2007 through Virgin Records as the second single from her debut studio album, One Cell in the Sea (2007). The single failed to enter the US Billboard Hot 100, but experienced success in Europe, reaching the top 10 in the singles charts of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
"Almost Lover" is a piano-driven pop ballad with elements of alternative rock written and composed by Alison Sudol. According to the digital sheet music published at Musicnotes.com by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc., the song was originally composed in the key of A minor and set in common time to a slow tempo of 63 BPM, with a vocal range spanning from G3 through C5.
Susan Visakowitz of Billboard wrote that, although Sudol "tackles a well-worn subject" on the song, "she does so with poetic turns of phrase and a lovely, unassuming vocal" that result in "Almost Lover" creating a "lasting first impression." In a review of One Cell in the Sea, Shirley Halperin of Entertainment Weekly wrote that "attention to the dramatic works wonders" on "Almost Lover" by showcasing Sudol's vocals.
