Do District 2 kids get long summer holidays and Christmas (or solstice or wintermas) and Easter breaks? If so, what did the different victors do during their breaks?

I have a brief winter solstice break and no school during Games month (July), but that’s it. I don’t have ‘school is cancelled during all of July and August’ or whatever because it’s a district where the majority of the population is adults working in dangerous jobs that kids can’t be helping out in (unlike in say farming where the kids are out of school for months and can help in the fields) and so would be taking money out of whoever had to be home for childcare purposes.

I’m not actually sure what the various Victors did, because so many of them their childhoods are kind of like ‘we don’t think about that now’. Either because like Callista, it’s the part of their life where they’ve moved on and put it behind them, or because like Brutus it’s too long ago and the memories have faded, or they’re like Lyme and have actively repressed the memories (though I wrote a fic about hers).

Uhhh let me think though. Claudius was living full-time in the Centre by 7, so apart from the year he was homeless over the no-school holidays, he just stayed in Residential. Petra stayed at home whenever she didn’t have the Centre and helped her mother with chores and tried to avoid her brothers, who tormented her a lot whenever they were around, and escaped out to play outside as much as she possibly could. Brutus loved the holidays because he got to see his family, although after he got to be school-age he’d have to start staying with his grandparents because no way could either of his parents afford to take that much time off. He liked to do chores and help around the house while they were gone so he felt useful.

Emory probably had some sort of Young PK thing going, like come to the office with her mom and be her deputy (which ……….. lol, now that I think about it is the cutest thing ever??). Devon used to wander and did chores around the neighbourhood, they were a single-income household and money was tight before the munitions factory opened up in town so he used to try to charm people into giving him money for helping out. (I think he used to stock shelves and things, and they’d let him bring cans of stuff home, or like, things that were one day past the sell-by date)

Misha was mostly left alone. She liked the solstice when she was little, when she and her dad went stealing, but after they had to stop that it was mostly a quiet/angry time. In summer her dad would go out because he didn’t like to be trapped in the house just to look after her, so Misha would make herself food and watch the Games in horrified fascination and ask herself if she thought she could do that. (She could, she thought. It might even be easy.)

Nero stayed home with his sister, he rarely went anywhere because he didn’t like leaving her alone with his dad/her stepdad. She’d go out with friends, though, and then he could relax a little bit and go play by himself. I think Callista probably went to summer camp with the other rich kid offerings (as did Odin). Odin also went to a bunch of parties during the solstice, the type of thing where Misha’s dad would totally have cased his place while his family was out because they’d rarely be home the whole week. Adessa ……………. honestly I have no clue. Trying to figure out her childhood is hilarious because I just picture adult Adessa, just … miniaturized.
