something i think about constantly is nahida saying "after all, i'm just the moon: the real sun is long gone" bc its such a good representation of how she views herself in relation to rukkhadevata. the moon is a source of light but utterly pales in comparison to the sun. not to even mention that the moons light is not its own: rather it's a reflection of the sun already long gone. nahida views herself as insignificant in comparison to all rukkhadevata was known for and the legacy she left behind, like she inherited the role of an archon and its duties but only that. she was not given the things that made rukkhadevata so beloved and so becomes a lousy imitation of what was so previously adored: like the moon following the sun. this, of course, is only due to the misreatment she suffered at the hands of her people. if allowed to shine, she would have become her own star.

my fave (derogatory) critique of ships is that shippers are delulu. like first of all, of course.

secondly, the point of shipping for me isn't like, "as the show is right now, it makes complete and total sense for these characters to get together" it's more like, I'm personally interested in the dynamic of these two characters and like to imagine a version of events where they're together and explore how they'd play off of each other.

It's not a matter of "solving" the puzzle of who a character should be with, but exploring a "what if". I've seen plenty of canon ships where I think the writers took a less interesting path for one reason or another (how I view kataang tbh) but I can still understand why they did it.

In general, when I was a kid how I interacted with media was very self inserty which is how I got into zutara land lmaooo but as an adult Katara is not a character I relate to as much for obvious reasons. however, I'm still interested in the writing of certain relationship dynamics!!
