God i LOVE how shimamura is looking for literally any opportunity to call adachi her girlfriend and say they're eachothers girlfriends, and adachi straight up telling her "i love you" all the time. It feels so refreshing after having to put up with so much subtext in other series

One interesting place to start talking about Shimamura is that her name is always written in hiragana. I’m not Japanese and can’t talk to all of the cultural implications behind that; but I’m reminded of a different show, where after a girl lost her memory her brother encouraged her to start writing her name in hiragana instead of kanji until she felt like she had an identity of her own again. I think that’s the fulcrum of Shimamura’s personality. She spent so much time making herself so small and taking up so little space, that she stopped being able to talk about what she wants or even to really want anything at all. Her efforts for Adachi are so small. But she is trying for her.
