honestly, probably one of the reasons I like natori as a character so much is because I feel like a lot of times when shows will introduce a character who’s a potential friend/ally/mentor who suffered in very similar ways as the protagonist, but it’s revealed that they responded to their trauma in darker/unhealthier/more damaging ways than the protag, said character is often villainized and even discarded after their appearance and used as just like, a cautionary tale or to provide disillusionment to the protag or whatever, and I’m glad natsume yuujinchou... didn’t do that with him:/

#like yes<3 I want characters who didn’t come out as soft after being traumatized to have healing and character growth too<3 #not to vagueblog about atla (which I do love dearly btw) but jet and hama should’ve gotten redemption and happiness 😔 #actually I had been trying to figure out what ayakashi exorcism reminded me of #and I was like ‘oh yeah. puppet master from atla’ #ugh now I’m thinking about hama not being thrown back in a fire nation prison>:( #and healing and actually becoming a friend and mentor #thinking about jet not dying😔 #ANYWAY this was about natsuyuu not atla #but anyway natsume yuujinchou and yuki midorikawa win at everything as always #I also like that his character growth hasn’t been super linear or happened too fast #just in general I think midorikawa is really good at developing characters naturally and thoughtfully #which sometimes means they’re not always going to make the right choices even if they’re trying to #this series also just doesn’t really villainize its even more morally grey characters in general #even matoba who’s the closest character this series has had to an antagonist #has already become an ally (even though he hasn’t changed his ideals or methods too much) #it’s a pretty forgiving narrative which I really appreciate #while still being able to have plenty of conflict and tension
