Azriel's likely response to Rhys' order...
Tumblr media
Elriel Month, Week 1: "Forbidden"
Azriel - Mister "Chain me to a tree, Rhys" himself - doesn't take this sort of order lying down.
I had planned a fic, but I'm not in the right mindset to finish it at the moment. Hopefully that will change, but if not, then at least there's this bit of nonsense. 😅

A prediction for ACOTAR 5 about the Valkyries and the Illyrians
Coming atcha from the middle of my post-HOFAS reread of ACOSF.
(HOFAS spoilers after the break)
From ACOSF, ch. 38, when Gwyn is telling Nesta and Emerie about Mind-Stilling:
"It involved deep breathing and becoming aware of one's body, then learning to let go. They [the original Valkyries] used it to remain calm in the face of their fears, to settle themselves after a hard battle, and to fight whatever inner demons they possessed."
"Illyrian warriors do no such thing," Emerie murmured. "Their heads are full of rage and battle. It's only gotten worse since the last war. Now that they're rebuilding their ranks."
What if the rebirth of the Valkyries, under Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie, will have a direct positive effect on the Illyrians as they contend with the discovery of their origins as creations of the Daglan?
The whole second half of ACOSF, culminating in Gwyn and Emerie winning the Blood Rite and achieving the Carynthian rank and Nesta the Oristian rank, has woven into it the idea that the Valkyries reborn, under the training and tutelage of two Carynthian Illyrian warriors in Cassian and Azriel, are not quite Illyrian in technique and not wholly Valkyrie in technique, but something completely new that blends the two.
But what if, it's not only the new Valkyries that are going to benefit from the cross-pollination of fighting techniques? What if, as Azriel inevitably contends with his loathing of his own Illyrian people in ACOTAR 5, and clearly Nesta has been set up in HOFAS to play a big role in ACOTAR 5 as well (and with Nesta comes Gwyn and Emerie) — what if part of how both Az and, by extension, the Illyrians as a whole, come to terms with the fact that they were created to be almost monstrous soldier grunts for their even more monstrous Daglan overlords, and overcome the negative effects of that heritage, is to absorb the healthier approach to fighting and battle espoused by the Valkyries?
What if Az, with the Valkyrie trio and Cassian, help the Illyrians in part by showing them there is another way to be a warrior culture that doesn't cause harm to themselves (vis a vis misogyny and a rage-fueled approach to fighting), a la the Valkyries?
It seems both groups — Illyrians and Valkyries reborn — stand to gain and learn from each other, and it seems like the set up for ACOTAR 5 is the perfect opportunity to tell a story that features a symbiotic relationship between these two cultures.
(I also both wish and predict in tandem with this healing process that past clippings of female Illyrians' wings, centering Emerie but radiating out to them all, get healed and reversed through some intense creative (firstlight core under Ramiel?) magic. 👀)

My predictions for the rest of the ACOTAR series go something sorta like this…
ACOTAR 5: Elain x Azriel
Elain conquers her Mountain (the Prison). Spy Elain arc with a friendship with Nuala and Cerridwen. Azriel is her love interest and together they deal with their respective traumas. Elain finally gets to choose, and Azriel is finally chosen. A conversation between Mor and Az clears up the dynamic between them. A subplot involving a friendship between Elain and Lucien that leads them to mutually deciding to reject the bond. Koschei breaks free at the end of the book.
Theme(s): Fate vs Freewill, Self-Autonomy
NOVELLA: Prequel
A prequel novella surrounding the events of Prythian during the reign of the Daglan. Theia, Fionn, and Pelias are major characters. We learn more about what happened and about the dynamic between them. Koschei and the Death God siblings will also have some role, giving us more background on them. This sets up a potential full-fledged crossover series (Twilight of the Gods) or just simply introduces the idea of a multiverse for ACOTAR-only readers. Information learned in this will also set up things for the final ACOTAR book.
Theme(s): Power & Corruption, Hubris (?)
ACOTAR 6: Lucien x Vassa
Lucien goes back to the Spring Court or Humanlands to deal with Koschei. His love interest is Vassa and he has a friendship with Jurian. Eris and Lady of Autumn are also somehow involved. Koschei forces Vassa back to his creepy lake. Vassa’s relationships with the other trapped women is explored. Lucien discovers his heritage and spell-cleaving powers. Helion plays some sort of role in this. Lucien uses these powers to free Vassa and finally defeat Koschei, most likely with the support of the three Archeron sisters and the three bat boys. Vassa and Lucien end up reigning as High King and Queen of both Prythian and the Humans. The story ends with an epilogue that gives us a look into what the rest of the main characters do in the future and where other side characters end up.
Theme: Identity, Family
The End!

I'm slowly losing faith in sjm's writing altogether after hofas 😭 Bryce has to the most insufferably bossy & arrogant and immature and fucking cringe FMC she's ever written oh my god.
I. Just. Can't. Do. It. Anymore.
I wasn't going to answer this last night when you sent it, but I woke up this morning and have been reflecting on the book and now I want to.
Under the cut as per haters bookclub rules
I never liked Bryce to be fair, but who even was book 3 Bryce? I think my frustration is like- "canon this canon that. as if sjm cares" but like, LITERALLY. She doesn't respect the things SHES written and will literally undo things/changes things at a whim. And it's not like this is new, but it did feel particularly egregious in CC3.
I'm not going to speculate on why this happened because I don't know the inner workings of SJMs mind nor her contract with BB. I also don't care to assume best intentions here. This book was a sloppy mess and it doesn't matter because SJM's true gift is her fans who will write her out of it. The fans will make theories that piece her plots together and write endless well researched thinkpieces on why it wasn't out of character for Bryce to do x or Ruhn to do y.
My expectations were in hell coming in but I did genuinely think I'd enjoy parts of it because I typically like SJMs writing. What was to like? I don't want to rain on people's parades but it felt like at times SJM was working through a checklist of problems that sounded cool at first but then she didn't know what to do with, and so shit was just being magically solved like, three pages later just "because".
And I'm tired of being told that I shouldn't have expected ACOTAR 5 and thats why I didn't enjoy it. I didn't enjoy it because it was technically sloppy, repetitive, predictable, and bloated. Nesta Archeron couldn't save this book even if she was on every page (god how I wish) and I see people saying they wish it had been longer and resolved better which tells me that people do kind of understand the problems here. It's emotionless and flat. Who cared if Bryce died? ? I know tiktok will be taking vidoes of themselves crying but god how I was like, sure jan. She was right back like they always are, like that got old the first time Rhysand did it.
Anyway. Call me bitter I guess. Everyone is salivating for canon proof of the next couple for acotar. Be careful what you wish for besties.

I'm predicting that CC3 will set up more of Azriel's book (not to mention Nesta and Az together strongly suggests Elain will not be part of their POV considering Nesta and Elain were never really involved in IC business together and Az has already tried to keep her away from anything dangerous) however.......
If Elain is still living with Feyre in CC3, I imagine she'll make an appearance at some point.
But.....
If Elain is entirely absent from CC3, I think it means she and Lucien are elsewhere together.
If that's the case, I think SJM will pull a EoS / TOD / KoA situation where she left us on a Aelin cliffhanger at the end of EoS, took us elsewhere in their world (and away from Aelin) in ToD, then backtracked in KoA and picked up where we last saw Aelin in EoS.
So I'm thinking if we're left wondering where Elain is in CC3 (and Az's situation is left on a bit of a cliffhanger), instead of picking up right after the events of CC3 in the next ACOTAR, she'll take it back in time for ACOTAR 5 to Elucien's journey in order to fill in the gaps of where Elain was during HOFAS before leading up to where we left off at the end of Bryce's time in Prythian with Az in ACOTAR 6.

Have you noticed that being with Mor or Elain would benefit Azriel? Well, that is what he probably thinks? Because Mor is a member of the IC and Elain is an archeron. Let's say Mor and Azriel were mates or at least together, he would be a real part of the family from his POV. But Elain benefits him more, because if he were her mate, it would make him a brother in law to Rhys and Cassian. I feel like It isn't just that he wants some mating bond, but a mating bond with a specific person that could make him have any importance to the family.
I think the reason he choses to be blind about the glow in his chest for Gwyn and how the shadows react to her, is really because he doesn't expect her at all?.She's not part of the IC, she's not an Archeron and then there's the fact that she's also a lesser fae while Mor and Elain are high faes. Azriel thinks he's not a part of his family and he always gets so mad whenever he isn't allowed to do his job because it will make him think that he has no importance in the family other than his job. So the reason he tried it with Elain specifically is because with her, he has the chance to be "part of the family". And he dislikes Lucien because he thinks Lucien will take his place? Lucien has ties to literally every court and the human lands, Azriel does not. He's the mate of an archeron that could make him a brother in law to Rhys and Cassian, Azriel isn't. Lucien is high fae and a High lord's son, Azriel is lesser fae and a bastard born. Ain't no way he isn't jealous of Lucien. He probably even saw how good Lucien is with Rhys and especially Cassian (winter solstice when they talked about sports).
I have also noticed that he saved Elain on time in acowar before the hybern king or any other hybern person could hurt her. He even said something like "yeah of course, I was the one who saved her" in acosf, as if he was proud of it. But he was late to save Gwyn and the other priestesses. Well... he did save Gwyn, just the damage was already done and now she has to deal with a lot of trauma (he isn't to blame). He'll most likely blame himself for what happened to her.
I think that will blind him. His high expectations. The big wish to still be part of the family and not alone. In acomaf he agreed with Feyre and said something like he doesn't know where he fits (something like that). He'll probably try to ignore the growing feelings for Gwyn in acotar 5 until he can't take it anymore. He might want to refuse to fall in love with her but can't help it.
What is so beautiful about Gwynriel's story is that it's all so unexpected. Same as Elucien' story (Sarah herself said it). El/riel is just so predictable and too perfect.
This is such an interesting take... (also so so sorry once again for taking literally forever, you probably don't even remember sending this)
[he wants] a mating bond with a specific person that could make him have any importance to the family.
*elmo fire gif*
At this point, when Az says his brothers were given two sisters but he wasn't given the third (excuse me while I gag), I think that the real reason he's not naming Elain, on top of him not really knowing her, is the fact that he feels like being "left out" in this way says something about him. It's not at all about Elain, or even the Archerons. It confirms Az's worst fears if Rhys and Cassian were "gifted" mates from the Cauldron and he wasn't - like he isn't worthy of love, or worthy of a mate, like he can't have a partner who is meant for him because ultimately, he feels like he's not good enough for anyone.
The Cauldron failing to provide Az a mate - at least, that's what he thinks, but this is sjm and we know he'll have one - means that all of Az's worst fears about himself - failure to belong, to be good enough, to do enough - are confirmed. That icy rage in Az has to have a source, it's coming from somewhere. And given the direct connection with Az's anger and his protectiveness of his mother that Rhys mentioned in acofas, it would make sense for those issues to stem from his troubled relationship with his family. I suspect that he feels a similar sort of precariousness with the IC as well, like they aren't his real family because he isn't good enough. And the fact that Cassian has a mate, and Rhys has a mate, and it's been two years and Az is still waiting?
Yeah, it's no wonder Az seems to be spiraling.
And he dislikes Lucien because he thinks Lucien will take his place? Lucien has ties to literally every court and the human lands, Azriel does not.
I think this is a major reason why he's annoyed at Lucien. Az can't stand the scent of Elain and Lucien's mating bond. Lucien is a High Fae, friends with everyone, son of a High Lord, has a mate, basically someone that Az has every reason to be intensely jealous of. Az said that Lucien is honorable or whatever, but he is probably pissed that Lucien isn't seizing for himself the thing that Az would kill to have. A mate. And yesssss. what you mentioned about acofas with all the Archeron mates getting along and having a conversation like bros-in-law. On top of everything, Lucien is going to come in there and steal his besties, too?!
Az is likely feeling some intense insecurity about his place in the world right now. If I were to sum up his current mental state, that would be it.
His high expectations. The big wish to still be part of the family and not alone.
It's so strange that he can be so intense about what he deserves (e.g. a mate) and yet be so very insecure. It's not unrealistic, he just has a bit of warring emotions in there. I think that Az wants to belong, and while he does belong in the Night Court and with the IC, right now the whole mate thing is playing on his worst fears and making him question just how much he really does belong because secretly, he thinks he doesn't deserve anything he has.
e*riel isn't perfect at all too me, quite the opposite haha but I suspect you don't mean that word literally. It plays on every gender role trend I hate. It would be the most heteronormative ship sjm has written, and that's saying a lot lmao
god this got long but basically I think this is a really interesting thought and I agree with you!

What are some of your predictions regarding the next acotar/cc book?
What are your opinions on
- Gwyns heritage
- azriels future so
- Spoiler for cc2
Do you think cc3 plays for the most part in prythian? And do you think some tog characters are gonna be there too?
predictions are:
rhys is valg / related to maeve
azriel possibly the prince of hel ?
Aelin gets powers back
the Asteri were the ones that Amren served / rules the all the sjm universes
as far as Gwyn’s heritage, i honestly don’t think much of it. i def don’t think she’s related to lucien, and i don’t think she’s tamlins daughter. but maybe still related to him somehow but idk
i hope azriel doesn’t end up with elain. im team gwynriel BUT mans needs to sort shit out with mor first. i hope we see his pov without a relationship / SO in the way, unless it’s maybe gwyn but it has to be done right
as far as the end of CC2 i’m excited for the crossover but i hope it’s not the IC coming in and “saving” everyone, but rather aelins court. i want aelin manon and nesta as besties too lmao. i think it’ll mostly bounce between prythian and midgard, but mostly midgard because acotar 5 will be separate i think. im really hoping they find a way to bring TOG characters in and i think they will. sjm knows how popular and loved they are so surely she’ll at least bring in a few. maybe not aelin and rowan but i can see her using manon and dorian

Elucien’s book is going to give us so much political drama and I’m SO here for it. An Autumn Court version of Game of Thrones. A Paternity Day Court scandal (“Mister Vanserra, you are NOT the father” *crowd cheers*). A Spring Court uprising and Lucien “I did not sign up for this” Vanserra. A literal Mortal Lands civil war since one of the queens got turned into a BIRD. Actual DEATH GODS rising in power. I can’t wait.

My prediction about the next four books SJM will publish
I wanted to get this down somewhere, in part to process my angst about the possibility of what may come last in this next cluster of book releases 😫 but also to record the plot and character threads I am seeing as important heading into the next stretch of books SJM will release.
This includes HOFAS, ACOTAR, and TOG spoilers so it's after the break.
DISCLAIMER: These are just my guesses based on various interviews SJM has given both before and after the HOFAS release — THE ONLY SERIES BOOK THAT'S CONFIRMED IN THIS LIST IS ACOTAR5 BEING NEXT, and with that one, the main characters and plot threads I'll mention have also not yet been confirmed (beyond an avalanche of textual evidence 👀)
So, here are my predictions, circa 1.5 weeks after HOFAS was released:
➡️NEXT: ACOTAR5 - Az/Gwyn + Nesta and the Valkyries (which should also include Mor, ideally in a shared storyline with Emerie), Illyria / Ramiel / the Prison (and maybe a return of the pegasuses to Prythian), Gwydion and Truth Teller (not to mention the other two Made blades Nesta forged in ACOSF - also will Narben make an appearance? 👀), and I also think the first part of the Autumn Court drama may be told in this book - the truth about what happened between Mor and Eris, Beron's ongoing treachery, and Beron may die in this book making Eris High Lord (though some of these items may also be in ACOTAR6 instead - I do think the Mor and Eris story needs to come out in ACOTAR5 though, for Az to make peace with his 500 years of pining for her)
➡️FOLLOWED BY: A Throne of Glass crossover book - Shifter Fae + humans, more history and context about when the ancient Erilea Fae world-jumped to Midgard and served the Asteri, a story that creates threads and connections (of some kind, no idea how, and not sure which ToG characters it would entail) to Lidia (deer shifter with fire magic a la Aelin), Tharion (and the Mer as a people - ToG stans, remind me, were there mer in the ToG series at all? I'm pretty sure Rigelus says they hailed from the same world as the wolves and other Midgard shifters - I've read ToG in full but not as closely as ACOTAR and CC), and Ithan (wolf shifter with ice magic a la Dorian)
➡️THEN I AM THINKING: CC4: House of Many Waters - This would be the continuation of the story threads SJM did not resolve or finish by the end of HOFAS: Lidia's "service" to the Ocean Queen (and more RuhnLidia story with Brann and Ace 😍), Tharion/Sathia with Flynn and their earth magic / Avallen and the pegasuses, Ithan as the new Prime of the Wolves (and something with Perry - why did the antidote fade for her so fast?), Firstlight Zero, widespread distribution of the antidote, Ariadne (where did she go??!), and maybe more portal hopping to Prythian for Bryce, Hunt, Ember, and Randall (OH and maybe Ruhn here too, to get him in the same room as Rhys 👀) to further develop the cross-world friendships we saw forming in HOFAS
➡️WHICH MEANS FOURTH IN SJM'S AIRPLANE TAXI LINE WOULD BE (SOBS): ACOTAR6 - Elain/Lucien, Band of Exiles, Firebird retelling, Koschei, the mortal queens, and the conclusion of the big magical conflict that began with the finding of the Dread Trove in ACOSF, not to mention the Archeron sisters finally acknowledging and healing all of their familial baggage that was born from their collective and generational hardships from their time as humans (so Elain also coming to terms with her Seer powers and being Fae / no longer human - also answering the question: What happened when Elain went into the Cauldron?), I also think some of the Autumn Court drama would play out in this story Helion/Lady Autumn and Lucien's heritage (Day Court heir?), as well as more information about Papa Archeron from the time period of ACOWAR when Lucien traveled with him (LOTS of processing complex and problematic parents in this one!)
Again, these are JUST MY IDEAS - the ToG book guess is based on SJM saying after ACOTAR5 she's excited about the world her next book will be in which she implied was not the CC or ACOTAR world, and which will be emotional for her because of "who may pop up" - if that doesn't scream a return to her to the ToG universe then I don't know what would.
Then the 3rd and 4th predictions follow from that 2nd one being ToG and what I think she may focus on in it to add layers to her crossover - which seems like something she would want to do after how much work she's put into it so far.
I think there's a stronger and deeper fanbase for ACOTAR6 than there will be for CC4, so I think that could impact a decision to write and release CC4 first (since us ACOTAR stans would wait decades for the conclusion of that story and still buy a bazillion copies of it).
WHICH MEANS (SOBS), if these books are released one every 1.5 years on average... It may be quite a few years until we get our Elucien book 😭 ACOMAF came out in 2016. It would be PAST 2026 when ACOTAR6 gets released, over 10 years, until we get to see what actually comes of Elain's and Lucien's mating bond, if the above winds up bring true.
I swear, Eluciens are going to get the trophy for longest wait to see these two in their endgame, bless our patient souls 🏆
(There is always a chance the last two in the list will be in reverse order, with ACOTAR6 followed by CC4, but even if that winds up being the case, it would still be three books from now for ACOTAR6.)

Secret Santa here!
This is me just asking fun questions unrelated to what I'm working on. I'd love to know your thoughts on ACOTAR more!
So, tell me. What are your predictions for the upcoming books? Who do you think will switch sides? who do you think will die? who do you think will get together? do you have any wild theories?
In honor of the Suriel, rest in peace, spill the tea!
Oooo ok this is fun.
I think ACOTAR 5 will be Gwynriel. I think it will deal a lot with the Autumn court, considering Gwyn’s likely connection and Azriel’s dislike of them. I really hope it’s not a love triangle, but Elain will definitely be more present than in ACOSF to prep for the final book, which I think will be Elucien and the conclusion of the Koschei arc. I like the idea of Gwynriel being some sort of quest, where we can see them both at each other’s throats and growing together: Azriel learning that he’s wrong in his assumption that Gwyn needs his coddling and protection, and Gwyn learning that she is strong and there’s nothing weak about asking for help once in awhile.
I think, as far as death is concerned, anyone without a mate is in danger: Mor, Tamlin, even Eris (although I think he’ll remain in play bc Beron needs to die).
I don’t have a ton of theories… I need to reread. Most of my recent theorizing has been around Crescent City.
**HOSAB SPOILERS**
.
.
.
I do think Gwyn will play a substantial role with CC3 and getting Bryce back to Midgard, which will set up a path to ACOTAR 5.

i just finished the acotar series, and i have quite a few bones to pick. spoilers ‼️
1. NESTA HATE??
ok, so i get that Nesta can be REALLY rude at points, but no one that hasn’t gone through something similar to her can ever know what it’s like. being so depressed and mourning over someone is a terrible pain, and i completely understand WHY she said what she said. and also, people saying that they didn’t like her perspective; DOD WE READ THE SAME BOOK? i loved so much of acosf, i can’t fathom the nesta hate.
2. rhys..
ok so in acosf rhys was…questionable. he not only essentially threatened to kill her, but the bonus chapter with az?? is he an idiot? cause i think he is a completely different person around feyre, or she has some VERY rose colored glasses. rhys was so irresponsible in acosf, and i am beginning to hold grudge towards him.
3. bonus chapters
ok, so i was reading it right? and i was all , go elriel! but rhys (rhys 🤢) had to mess shit up, and now gwynriel is a possibility?? i don’t like it. i thought what elriel had going on was so cute, and i love gwyn, but her and az just feel awkward.
4. cassian
cassian 😍
5. predictions..
ok, so mor x emerie i think will happen.
i think for the next book in the acotar series, there’ll be a love triangle with az elain and gwyn.
nesta doesn’t entirely lose her powers (at least i hope not)
dude from the rite that helped nesta will come back.
these are just my thoughts, but i’d love to hear any other perspectives. also, should i read crescent city? i’ve heard mixed reviews about it but saw we get some more Az and Nesta in bonus chapters.
