I wish I lived in a world where every time I told someone I was ace, I didn't have to immediately have to follow it up with a whole PowerPoint and speech about what asexuality really is and how it is not just about sex just for them to barely understand.

We need more representation. More character rep. More people talking about the true definition of asexuality. More people talking about how both boys and girls can be asexual.

Saying that I'm ace is nerve-wreaking enough, I just wish I didn't have to continue to explain myself like I'm some alien.

Am I the only aspec person that is always a bit scared when my friends start dating?

Because I love them dearly, I truly do, and I wish them only the best but every time that happens I take a backseat in their life and their partner becomes their priority. Which I understand! A romantic partner is someone who is very important to you and I absolutely get that! But it just...hurts because you're always the second option, you always know that when the time comes you'll be pushed away in favour of a romantic partner.

And I'm not jealous, I am so happy for them, but for me it's always hard because it feels like friends aren't as important, I'm not as important, as a romantic partner.

Hey just so you know, a lot of the 'furniture' design you've been reblogging is AI generated. They're not real woodwork, pay close attention to the absolute lack of true symmetry and it becomes easy to spot.

Thanks for looking out for AI generated art. However, in this case it's completely unwarrented. I scrolled back to see which posts you were probably referring to, and I found them all to be legitimate. The antlers furniture had a source (can be found on mobile, couldn't find it on desktop), which lead to an archive. The chair, at the very least, is in the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna.

The second post with the white curled furniture had its caption removed, but it was originally posted in 2014. The pieces are designed by Lila Jang.

The third post (almost a month ago!!) with the nouveau art bed and various other furniture also had the caption removed, but is a collection of furniture currently in the Musee D'Orsay in Paris. When you look at the furniture, you can see shadows from multiple light sources. They all check out. If you look even closer (might be harder to spot if you don't know furniture construction) you can spot joints and different colourations of different wood parts, but the carvings are all smooth.

I studied furniture making & conservation. Furniture has always been funky and wonky. Do you have any idea how hard it is to make furniture truly symmetric, especially before we had industrial machines? Hell, most of the time people didn't even want their furniture perfectly symmetric! It was most definitely the norm, but when Baroque and Rococo rolled around, they threw all that shit out of the window and made everying asymmetrical on purpose. The shapes and bodies were mostly still symmetrical, but the carvings and other decorations like marquetry or gildings were not. Especially Art Nouveau loved fucking around with shapes (check out Gaudi's work if you want to take a look at "AI" furniture from the 19th century) It only came back during the Empire, and in modern furniture. And even then, artists have always loved fucking around with shapes! When I started furniture making, everyone was talking about this CNC created Glitch Wardrobe by Ferruccio Laviani, created in 2013!

I might have missed (some of) the post(s) you were referring to, but from what I could find, everything was legit. Whenever I encounter furniture posts, I zoom in and look at the construction. Not because I'm paranoid for AI, but because I enjoy figuring out how it was made. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, furniture is not all squares and rectangles. Hell, most of furniture history has been anything but. It's not as straightforward as you might think. Give furniture some credit. It's got a wild and expansive imagination and history, and it's very underappreciated.

For context I'm not around/across phobic, I am one myself

Like, we have green and purple, make the fald with those two if you are designing it the way the commonly used one is

And even then I'm a little iffy about it because using an aro/ace flag doesn't really show the diversity in the community

I might be overthinking this but it's like saying that the romantic attraction you feel and the sexual attraction you feel are the same, which is rarely the case.

(also if anyone could tell me where the aroace flag came from that'd be great I'm very interested)

If you don't stand with all of the LGBTQIA+, you stand with none. People seem to forget about all of that within fandom.

If you NEED someone’s sexuality stated in that specific term we only now use (and largely in the west), you don't stand with us (looking at you, acephobes).

If you NEED specific characters to have sex, you don't stand with us--referring to how objectively aspec characters are mostly just sexual in their tags and fanart.

Can they have sex? Obvi-fucking-ly. But when there's contextual evidence that they're aspec, what the actual fuck, why are they constantly fucking!?

Ace people deserve as much representation as anyone else in fandom spaces, sex is not the be-all, end-all of adulthood or relationships and it's immature to see it as such. Nonsexual intimacy is real and just as legitimate; even more valid when an arguably canonically ace character is present.

And porn--yes porn, because smut is just porn with words--being so, SO prevalent in fandom is also an issue: there are MANY minors in fandom and no, "we're not all responsible for taking care of the kids," but we sure as fuck have a role in it. When there's 90% smut, laden with tags like non-con, dead dove, incest, sex-pollen/heat/sex curse (noncon means to sex) etc, that--and get this--NORMALIZES that shit. If you think it doesn't, that's like saying we haven't all been conditioned to feel that skinny-ness is normal and fat-ness is abnormal by the media; that heteronormativity and heterosexuality hasn't been normalised to us based off what we consumed whilst younger.

Can ace characters and other characters still fuck? Where the hell did I say that's not allowed whatsoever. Where, in the fuck, did I declare smut unacceptable. Nowhere. That's where.

This is what I'm saying: ace characters deserve to be ace in fandom, ace people by extension deserve that representation and not that feeling of alienation because they identified with a character but find nothing but smut.

What I'm saying is not everything has to be about sex! Have your horny and write your horny, but it's ludicrous for SO MUCH of fandom to be revolving around sex, especially when you can hardly find any non-sexual story about a certain character/ship!

What’s more, it’s fucking acephobic for there to be nothing but objective allosexuality!

And save the "do it yourself," I fucking am and maybe I'd like to just be able to read some good non-sex-revolving stories for once.

This is for all the aces and baby aces: you're not wrong for not feeling the very, very many sex tags, nor are you wrong for interpreting the character(s) as ace. And neither are you not-ace for enjoying the sexy tags or stories. Don’t let anyone force you out of a place you enjoy, especially if it’s an escape for you like so many find with fandom.

PS: “if you don’t like how it works, then don’t be in fandom.” Really just puts the nails in your acephobic coffin. Why the hell should we (and minors) be excluded from spaces that’re supposed to be inclusionary just because y’all can’t fucking control yourselves.

I was just reminded of the time I came out to a family friend as ace (something I don't do/none of my family knows) and they responded with "I'm part of the Lbgtq+ too!" and I was really excited only for them to hit me with "I'm A for Ally" and I don't think I've come out to anyone since.

(Side note- I didn't identify as Aro yet and since I've started to identify as Aro I haven't told anyone so even my close friends might not know, oops)

For someone who has only told a hand full of people, I have so many stories (not really like four)
