Do you think Richard ever had/would get a pet, especially after DBD to help him recover? Like a dog or something?

Sorry this is so long, typing it all is frustrating sometimes but I will sacrifice for you because I think the answer is interesting ahaha 😂

I think as a child, Richard and his little sister really wanted a dog, especially Richard!

I think he had (/has) bad anxiety, struggled with school and found it hard to make proper + lasting connections with people. So, many of his relationships (continuing into adulthood too) often tended to be shallow and unfulfilling and thought a dog might help battle that loneliness. He also thought that the dog could help keep his little sister safe against bullies when he couldn’t protect her (he got into fights a lot as time went by).

I think Richard’s dad was abusive but it often showed up in ways such as extreme policing of money, food, clothing, etc.. combined with his manipulative and impulsive nature. Therefore, the idea of the family “rebelling” against him really pissed him off. Richard’s mother was complacent in the dad’s abuse and because of his manipulation she even agreed with some of the rhetoric he would use to control the family (for example, sexism about women staying silent and hidden away or using religion in a twisted way to justify his behaviours so they’d sound right when they weren’t)

I’m pretty sure I made this up but, I found this “Richard lore” I had written somewhere about his dad that is uberrrr dramatic but I still like it, so I’m gunna include it here 😂… Despite his fathers’ warnings, sometimes Richard would wait by the neighbours house and play with their dog through the fence when his dad wasn’t home. Once the dad found out, he decided the only way left to stop all this was to properly scare Richard into submission. He took Richard to a friends’ house and purposely riled up their hunting dogs so they’d freak out and held Richard’s face down next to them to prove a point that dogs were violent and used to keep people “in line.” I think after that Richard wasn’t too fond of dogs after that cause,,, trauma obviously. Even as he got older and that fear potentially started going away a bit, dogs still put Richard on edge sometimes (loud and energetic big dogs in particular) but it’s getting better now.

That being said, I think he still likes the idea of having a pet. A dog, even. And although he’s too scared he would mess things up with a pet, a part of him will always mourn the youth and childhood that he never got to experience. Maybe it would feel like he was reclaiming part of his life..? Who knows, but I have a feeling that once he worked through some things, he’d actually be a good animal person, it’s just best to start with experiencing other people’s pets first for now ❤️

Can you imagine this man cuddling puppies?! Picking them up, nuzzling them, giggling and stupid mushy stuff. His big brown eyes getting all squinty cause he can’t stop smiling!

Richard's favorite cookie 🍪

I DONT KNOW AHHHH 😂

Instantly, THESE kind of cookies came to mind!

Personally, I’m not a massive fan of these. They’re not gross I like them sometimes, but over all they’re just eh.

HONESTLY I don’t think HE even likes them all that much. I think he was just joking around to be annoying and didn’t even really know what they were but didn’t want to admit that he’d never had them so he got them to prove a point because he thinks he’s hilarious.

I think one of the main reasons he would eat them is to spite people (*cough cough* me) by saying he needs a cookie that had a bit of everything and has to be equal parts 😑. When really he’s just a pig who likes to irritate people.

SO, being too tired to go get others AND admit he was wrong, he just gave in and it ended up becoming a thing!

So even though they’re not his favourites, PLUS he doesn’t really even like coconut, he always ends up getting them anyways for the lols and because he becomes attached to them and the memories that come with them now 🥺😂.

OK THIS IS GETTING LONG AND GOT NON COOKIE RELATED (I wrote a whole rant and had to delete it lol) SO IM GOING TO DO A SEPARATE POST BECAUSE THIS IS TOO FUNNY HOLD ON!!!!!!!

Behold. A random post about Richard and sweet food.

So, the “Richard’s favourite cookie” rant got a little long and didn’t really stay on the topic of cookies so here’s the other part @btv-grace 😂

When you go shopping with Richard and end up in the sweet food isles you can never buy ONE box of cookies or ONE carton of ice cream or ONE kinda of whatever with Richard around.

I think he gets lowkey anxious about picking one because what if it’s the “wrong” one (me too Richard me too lol).

He gets frustrated cause he doesn’t know what half of them taste like so he’s going to buy 5 different ice cream flavours so that he can try them all.

THEN on the way back home or while you’re leaving the store he’s gunna get annoyed cause he didn’t get any of the ice cream topping stuff so he’ll fight with himself on whether to go back and get fixins or whatever and SUDDENLY hes all the way on the other end of town in the big grocery store because he didn’t think there’d be enough options at the small one and he’s taken, like, an hour to get ice cream from the corner store.

BUT BUT BUT HERES THE KICKER AHAHAH

THIS MAN. HAS THE GALL. To get salty and tease YOU for taking 10 MINUTES to pick out the one that you want?!?!!!!!!!!

He sits there whining and scoffing like;

“Come onnnn, you’re taking forever! I could’ve eaten it all by now.”

“Just pick one, it doesn’t matter!”

“🙄😑🙄😑🙄😑🙄😑🙄”

AND once you start being like “Richard hold on lol let me pick one you dummy!” Or start ignoring him, he’ll follow you and start giving his trashy unasked for opinion on everything you pick, just to be cheeky. You don’t even have to pick it up, all you have to do is LOOK at it and he’ll be like “EW. You don’t want to get THAT one 🙄. Psh, GROSS.”

Like. Richard. This isn’t even FOR you.

This ones for ME.

And he starts bringin out the smirks and stupid cocky smooth boy attitude and is all like oh please, ik you’ll give me some of whatever you get, just tryna help out myself out lol 😉!

It’s all in love of course, you have to be able to take his teasing in stride, but it is frustrating some times. ESPECIALLY if you’re like him when it comes this kind of shopping but don’t want to bother him with your emotions.

But you know what, in the end he’s absolutely right. You probably DO end up giving him some and if you don’t then he steals some when you’re not looking.

Richard and money

Behold. Another random post. But this ones about Richard and money instead of food.

I feel like Richard has a very love hate relationship with money.

On one hand, sometimes he doesn’t mind blowing money, it makes him feel like someone special and he’s starting to like spending it on people, even if he pretends he doesn’t. It makes him feel like a better person and likes helping people out, since he’s been in bad situations himself multiple times.

BUT.

Sometimes, he has bad days. When he’s frustrated, disassociating and anxious, he gets really stressed and frustrated about wasting money, food, throwing it around and stuff.

I think a lot of this probably comes from his childhood. I think his dad was abusive and one of the things he was obsessive about was money, even though they were, for the most part, perfectly fine. It would show up in small ways most of the time, such as; freaking out about the lights being on, doors being left opened, food “going to waste,” but many times it would escalate.

I think the other part is from after he left home and hit hard times. After he left/got kicked out he obviously did a lot of crummy things to get money and have control. He’s had the high of being paid for dirty work and feeling like a king, and the low of barely scraping by and the feeling of overwhelming, tiring guilt.

I don’t think Richard has a lot of money, but I think he gets that “I just got paid” mentality and will spend it too fast and then realise that was a really bad idea but over time he gets better at managing it all, especially with help of Connie who wants to feel helpful and totally inserts herself into the situation 😂.

Richard and gifts

This ones kinda a tag along to the Richard and money one but more about how he spends it on you and his friends and stuff.

He likes he idea of getting little gifts for people. I feel that he’s the kinda guy that, with close friends, sees stuff at the store and takes a pic of it and when he sees you is all like OH HEY! Look what I saw, it totally reminded me of you!

But what he won’t tell them is that he actually wanted to get it for them but was worried about money and scared that they wouldn’t actually like it so he didn’t and feels really horrible and guilty about not getting them stuff even though people have caught on before and have tried to assure him it’s fine.

To be honest, he’s not a massive fan of getting offered free stuff from Whitsend and places either, it makes him kinda uncomfortable because it feels wrong and makes him feel like a charity case which puts him off a bit. But over time he learns it’s ok to accept those things. But he still promises to pay them back somehow at some point.

It could be billions of years later and one day when he gets a chance to help you with something he’ll joke about his debt being paid but nobody even really remembers that they did something for him in the first place LOL 😂

I was just commenting with @applesauce1131 on a post about how Jason doesn’t really interact with the kids anymore but it’s funny cause he probabaly put like at least HALF of all the Odyssey kids’ lives in danger at some point or another 😂

BUT if they were getting their lives endangered, at least they were having fun doing it!

And THAT lead to me imagining the hilarious concept of all the kids in Odyssey rushing off to tell their friends about the crazy stuff they did with Jason and when they see him in the streets they all be like

“Oh my gosh guys look it’s Jason!! Hey Jason, I heard what happened the other week with ——— , everybody’s talking about it. Can you take me next!?! PLEASE!!? I’ll be good!! I WONT EVEN TELL MY PARENTS AHSBSJKSKSJ”

Like, sorry, but anybody who’s anybody in the town of Odyssey has had their life put in danger by a Whittaker, thems the rules my dudes 😂💀
