#40 - How Do I Feel Better About Myself?
The most important relationship in your life, bar none, is the relationship that you have with yourself.
The reason is... you have to be with yourself 24x7, decade after decade after decade. And if you don't have a good, loving, empowered relationship with yourself, and instead you have a negative relationship with yourself, it's very painful.
Wherever you go, there you are! There's no escaping what goes on inside your mind and emotional system.
There can be painful thoughts, sometimes self-loathing thoughts, sometimes quite toxic thoughts toward ourselves. We may think and say things to ourselves we would never think or say to another person about them, but we would allow and tolerate ourselves having our mind run those thoughts about ourselves. And all of this leads us to not feel good inside!

Dungeon23 but make it Monster of the Week (the genre and the game)
With everyone working on their fun little dungeons (affectionate), I wanted to do something a bit more applicable to my upcoming projects. Since Chicks with Dice is rapidly coming up on our MotW campaign—Disaster Lesbians Guide to the Apocalypse—I wanted to spend the next year working on coming up with an adventure per week.
These are meant to be compact plots with a limited number of moving parts. The goal is to create one part of the adventure per day over the course of a week (Sunday-Saturday) and end the week with something that MIGHT be useable in an episodic format. To break that down, I've assigned each day to a segment of the narrative. I'll explain after the cut!
On Sunday each week, I'll be coming up with a Plot Hook. This is the elevator pitch for the episode, and is the most subject to change as the story evolves over the week. The pitch serves as a guide for developing the subsequent days worth of detail, and creates an anchor for the storytelling.
Next, on day 2, I'll be coming up with the NPC dramatis personae. This will consist of 3-4 plot relevant NPCs and key details about their characterization. These serve to guide the storytelling by making clear motivations and desires.
On day 3, it's time to develop a location. The location can often be ancillary to the plot in the broad sense, but creating 1-2 major sets within the location will serve to guide the action forward by way of giving you a place for your story to proceed from.
Up next, is conflict. This is where I finally pull together the elements of hook, character, and location to create the central conflict of the adventure. This should be no longer than a paragraph and is meant for to be kept "private" from the PCs since the investigation is part of their job.
Fifth, I'll be writing a series of possible resolutions to the plot based on a Nathan Fielder-esque simulation of expected character actions. These are intended to be easily replaced and discarded once the characters begin interacting with the adventure, but are necessary to serve as initial signposts for the story. I want to have an ending in mind to keep it from meandering, but not be so attached that the story feels like it's on rails.
Sixth is a quick outline of a combat scenario. This doesn't necessarily mean a physical confrontation with violent actions, but is rather the duel between players and NPC that is used to serve as a possible climax to the adventure. It is a challenge for the players to overcome in some way. It could also be a puzzle, or some sort of magical conundrum like a time loop, as long as the players can win in some way.
Then, on the final day each week, I'll focus on rewards. This will be things the players can earn through the adventure that may help them in a future endeavour. This can be material items, lore, allies, or any other type of boon one might gain through a successful adventure.
All of this is getting recorded in Goblincow's A6 journal because I love nothing more than writing challenges done by hand! I'll be keeping these mostly private since they're liable to be featured as stories on an AP podcast (which you should check out!). Instead, I'll try posting monthly story summaries using the tag #Motw52, which you can feel free to mute should you so desire.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022) Directed by James Gunn After "Werewolf by Night" which was also really well made, we now have another Marvel Studios Special Presentation in the form of a GotG Christmas Special from James Gunn. It runs just around 45 minutes but actually felt much shorter than that (almost like a short film) to me. The plot involves Mantis and Drax deciding to get a gift for Peter Quill so as to make it a great Christmas for him. It was a sweet little episode, very entertaining and though it's a simple story, there is some world building at play here which will pay off in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3". This is rounding off the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 ("Wakanda Forever" being the last movie, this one being the last TV show). Main titles are done by @sarofsky_design like some other James Gunn productions, and with its Christmas theme, the end credits are in the usual Din font but instead of white, they appear in red and green. I drew the older version of Groot from this special, the drawing is done with 0.5 mm 4B mechanical pencil on A6 Campap sketchbook. You can swipe to see a scan. ANDROMEDA-SIX How Mass Effect: Andromeda, but good
Finally, I got some time to go through the new episode of A6 and in this connection I had a desire to talk about this game.
Like most games that I spend my life on, this is a visual novel in which you (MC) try to build a relationship with one of the proposed love interests + follow the development of the plot. The setting of the game is a sci-fi, which for me (fantasy fans) is somewhat unusual, but my love for the Mass effect and the intriguing description of the characters did their job and in the end I caught the hook once again: “We have a cool an idea with cool characters, in the plot there will be secrets of the intrigue of romance, but the demo / chapter 0 / episode 1 / prologue will come out someday. ” However, in the situation with Andromeda, my expectations were not in vain.
Let's talk about the visual component. To be honest, for me this is the most ambiguous assessment parameter. Subjectively, the appearance of sprites and CGs is functional and not repulsive, but objectively ... it could have been better. What I like about the visual component is the backgrounds and colors. The backgrounds are beautiful, pleasant to the eye, combining well with character sprites and not drawing attention to them.
I’ll say a little about the plot to avoid spoilers. First of all, the plot is good in that it slightly draws attention from the characters and their problems. Secondly, events are developing dynamically. At some point, it even seemed to me that it was too dynamic, but evaluating the dynamics from a height of 4 episodes, I don’t think so.
In my opinion, the most important component of such games are the characters. And to be honest, initially, I was interested, but my expectations were greatly underestimated and the first episode did not inspire much hope. However, I found that despite the seemingly typical archetypes of the characters, I have no desire to quit any of the route. Yes, I also have favorites, but even if the character is not of my type at all, observing the relationship is still very interesting.
! Further there will be hints of spoilers of episode 4!
IMHO, episode 4 is the best of those that have been published at the moment, change my mind!!! It led us to the moment when all the actors came together, the relationship with each of the love interests was identified, and also showed some of them from a new perspective.
Speaking of LI:
Juniper: Absolutely not my type. Characters by type: “Ah, MC, I'm so terrible and dangerous. And you are so beautiful. A ray of light in this terrible world filled with darkness. I want to hug you. NOT. You can't, you have to leave. GO BACK ”extremely annoy me. But June was able to pleasantly surprise me by showing that the chivalry and self-flagellation inherent in it is not the only thing in this character. Special attention deserves his reaction to the disclosure of the identity of MC. His reaction is the most rapid and even unique, which makes his root much more interesting.
Calderon: Also not my type. Too command, stiff dick without any spicy. I thought. How wrong I was. There is plenty of spicy in our captain. But not only that. He can be quite caring and condescending. Even to some extent sweet. But I still don't regret calling him a d*ck. He deserved it.
Bash: Finally my favorite! The very first thing that catches your eye is that it’s fun to flirt with Bash. Talking to him is fun, and his reaction to the flirting remarks is incredibly sweet. The dark past gives it depth, but does not obscure the interaction with it. And also. Cool dentures give +100 charm.
Ryona: Again, not my type XD. Angels with a good heart, but creepy skeletons in the closet are certainly interesting, but they scare me a little. Moreover, romance with her is too sugary sugar. However! If you compare her route with others, then this romance is to her advantage.
Ayame: WIFE. Cheerful, lively, but capable of being serious and gloomy. Flirting with her is good, and her reddened face is pretty. The best girl! We are going further.
Damon: So ... I chose him as my favorite before I saw his sprite and decided for myself: “Well, this is shit, but I'm ready to go for it.” And episodes 1-3 told me that my opinion was correct. This is that wonderful character that has the title "D*ck No. 2" and "The main pain in my ass." Honestly, the route with him is when you move from the state “but he is not so bad” to the state “only the screen prevents me from embedding in his muggy face”. And then episode 4 comes out and I die of tender feelings and understand that I suffered for good reason. But for "D*ck No. 2" I do not apologize.
Vexx: People who want to build a relationship with him are obviously drama lovers and hurt themselves. It is sad, painful, but that's good. The discussion with Vexx in episode 4 was one of the most interesting parts of the whole episode, if not the most interesting. Sad but tasty. Give more.

Bernie Sanders gave Washington whiplash this week — and it was all part of his plan. Barely 24 hours after the Vermont senator publicly rejected a $3.5 trillion spending deal following a Monday meeting with President Joe Biden, he turned around to tout it as the most transformational policy proposal in nearly 100 years.
The shift in tone was a tactic Sanders used to coax moderate Democrats into going far higher than they might have otherwise felt comfortable. After he had insisted on shooting for the moon with a $6 trillion budget proposal, $3.5 trillion suddenly looked pretty reasonable.
The episode revealed a conciliatory side to the liberal icon often depicted by the media and Republicans as wild-eyed and well to the left of his party. Sanders has opposed some of Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s policies and nominees, but never in instances when his vote would prove decisive. He’s also softened his opposition to a bipartisan infrastructure deal, recognizing that he can't alienate his fellow Democrats if he wants to move his own agenda.
Still, the Independent from Vermont isn’t quite ready for the “P” label. “It’s not that I’m more pragmatic. It’s that there are 50 members of the Democratic Caucus. And unfortunately not all of them agree with me on everything,” Sanders said in an interview. “It was important to have a vision going forward of where we needed to go. And I think that was the right vision,” Sanders added. “Obviously, it was a vision that was a little bit more comprehensive than some of my colleagues.”
Even after two presidential runs garnered him national stardom and effective ownership of the American left, Sanders has toiled in the Senate minority with few levers to pull. This Congress, as the Senate Budget chair and a member of Schumer’s leadership team, the 79-year-old is one of the most powerful people in Democratic-controlled Washington. He also seems to be having a good time after decades of prowling the Capitol with gruff rebuttals for reporters delivered in his signature Brooklyn accent. After his interview with POLITICO, he was pressed by another reporter to take “one more question.”
“She makes me speculate,” he teased the second reporter, his voice rising in playful incredulousness. “One more question?!”
Jokes aside, moderates surmised it wasn’t easy for Sanders to shed his uncompromising stance on this year's massive spending blueprint, which is still perhaps months away from becoming law. Tester, who quickly endorsed Sanders’ budget blueprint, despite reservations, observed that Sanders likely “had hesitation” in coming down by $2.5 trillion.
“It may have been one of those deals where it was: ‘Look, Bernie, if we don’t get this, we can’t do anything.’ And he decided to move with it,” Tester said of the haggling. Yet senators on the Budget Committee viewed Sanders as taking an extreme position precisely so that it would yield a compromise all the more fruitful for liberal Democrats. If Sanders had started off endorsing Biden’s number of $4 trillion, it’s possible he and other progressives might have had to settle for a number lower than the $3.5 trillion they agreed upon. “Bernie Sanders is like a human embodiment of shifting the Overton Window,” said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who serves on the Budget Committee. “We wouldn’t be there without him putting out $6 trillion.”
With a ceiling of $3.5 trillion, Sanders says he can pursue all the changes that he’s prioritized, just not for not as long as he wants. That raises the possibility of future fights over the extension of programs like the expanded child tax credits championed by Democrats. Nonetheless, Sanders argues every chance he gets that he’s pushing “the most consequential piece of legislation passed since the 1930s for working people.” On the price tag alone, he’s right: If successful, the current social spending bill will be the biggest ever passed by Congress.
Those ambitious aspirations, and his influence on the Democrat Party’s agenda, make Sanders a handy villain for Republicans. The GOP tried to use his possible ascension in the majority as an attack line in the Georgia Senate races -- only to see Democrats win those contests, giving Sanders the budget gavel. Senate Republicans still try to tie vulnerable Democrats to Sanders, more so even than Biden or Schumer. “We applaud Bernie Sanders’ commitment to socialism and his influential leadership pushing 2022 Senate Democrat candidates to the far left,” said Katharine Cooksey, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee.
In addition to his central role in the Democratic caucus, Sanders also has the ear of former presidential rival Biden. Since winning the nomination and throughout the first six months of his presidency, the president has kept Sanders close. White House chief of staff Ron Klain essentially had an open-door policy with Sanders as he pushed for a $15 minimum wage earlier this year. That hike was ultimately crushed by moderates and the Senate parliamentarian, an early blow for Sanders.
But Sanders returned quickly to press Biden to embrace an expansion of Medicare coverage for dental, hearing aids and vision. During a private Oval Office meeting ahead of the budget announcement, Sanders “made that case passionately” again and Biden “gave his full backing,” said a senior White House aide. Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, said Biden “deeply respects Senator Sanders’ unflinching commitment to fighting for working people."
Medicare expansion is included in Senate Democrats’ budget proposal, though it’s unclear whether Sanders will be able to lower the Medicare eligibility age as he set out to do months ago. Nonetheless, Sanders seems close to cinching a major change to an entitlement program that's helped define the party's legacy for generations.
For many years, Sanders played “a kind of gadfly role,” said David Axelrod, who served as an adviser to former President Barack Obama, who Sanders briefly entertained primarying during the 2012 presidential campaign. But now, he added, Sanders “has comfortably shifted into the role of deal-maker."
“You're seeing a very pragmatic Bernie Sanders, but he's pragmatic in a principled way,” Axelrod said, observing that Biden and Sanders, “who really were from different places in the party, have come together in the sunset of their careers to do something potentially historic.”
Asked if Sanders is a pragmatist, Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) offered a clipped “yes” for an answer: “I don’t want to get him in trouble.”
This isn’t the first deal Sanders has cut, and it probably won’t be the last. In 2014 he memorably teamed with the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on a landmark agreement to reform the scandal-plagued Veterans Affairs Department. As part of that agreement, Sanders signed off on expanding private care access for veterans, a concession directly at odds with his long-standing commitment to single-payer health care. Sanders also struck an alliance last year with Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) in pushing for new pandemic stimulus checks.
“He’s obviously a passionate advocate. But he also understands this is a moment that we can’t let go by,” said Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a member of the Budget Committee and Democratic leadership. “He was able to read the room.”
Sanders is already digging in for the next round of fights. He may have centrist Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and the rest of the Budget Committee on board with his budget plan, but he still needs to win over more conservative Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. Manchin said he hasn’t yet talked to Sanders about the proposal.
Once again, Sanders is drawing a line in the sand, saying he’s not coming down any more from $3.5 trillion. Time will tell whether this one is real or tactical. “No. Quite the contrary,” he said, hinting that progressive allies across the Capitol might drive the price back up. “We’ll see what happens in the House.”

Spoilers for Andromeda Six episode 5 under the cut. These are my thoughts concerning the whole episode and theories about things going forward.
Once again, do not read if you ain’t caught up
I’m pretty sure that Vexx, if he ain’t dead, will end up in a coma or just seriously injured. For angst’s sake, I’m hoping for coma. And I know, I know, I was pretty anti-Vexx in my previous walkthrough, but welp. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No need for my characters to do anything, the universe is paying him back generously.
“But he didn’t intentionally betray us!” Tell that to my MC’s eldest sister. ....Uh-oop---

Let me stop ragging on him. I sincerely do wish he gets help and therapy and retire in solitude.
June still manages to hurt me, even when I was playing on separate save files with different LI. I don’t see him as monstrous, even when he was Hulking out in the lab. His parents were experimenting on he and his twin in the womb. They didn’t have a chance at all. But there’s a comment June made this episode that got me thinking: is his dad dead and did June kill him or is he the scientist that Zovack picked up on Orion? June’s mom better run, he likely to pull a King Kong move; go to the highest building and throw her off it.
Wasn’t a big fan of Damon at first. After several playthroughs on ep4, I warmed up to him but he really brought it in episode 5. I love that once you get past his sarcastic, snarky behavior, he reveals he’s not just a bad boy with overwhelming sex appeal and flirtiness, he’s got feelings. 🤤🤤🤤 That’s my Kryptonite! BYE THE BOY IS MINE.

Another LI I apparently wrote off too quick. He was such a bastard I couldn’t help choosing the sassy and bold options, wanting to put him in his place but it quickly turned into this Dom/bratty!sub thing and I’mdone. It’s clear to me that in episode 3-4, my boy was pent up and ready to lock MC in the Captain’s quarters and have them screaming “MORE”. Then he just flat out admitted it in this episode and I am uNDONE.
Aya, woooooooooo. I thought she was bossy and in charge, I ain’t even lyin’. Baby girl know she fione and be using that to maximum effect. Instead of my usual blush-y tentative dialogue choices, I decided to go full on bold and sassy again. aND HER REACTIONS JUST ABOUT DESTROYED ME. The amount of times she blushed and was taken aback had me rollin’. And then while in Cursa, she said, “Please, I’m really not that strong”. 😳😳😳 The soft sub energy here...
Bash captured my heart from day one. Ilovehimandhedeservestheworld. He’s always very upbeat and optimistic while not afraid to do the hard things. This time around, I got an emotionally stunted/repressed blush-y MC again. Only instead of being (understandably) a crybaby about the tragedy of their family being murdered, instead they chose to be aloof. Don’t think about it, don’t think about it, it didn’t happen, or if it did, I can’t be bothered to think about it, the people need saving-- Immediately Bash recognized this self-destructive behavior but instead of lecturing, offered an ear for venting and whatever they needed. #HusbandBehavior/YouCANBETHEKING
Ryona is a Queen. Periodt. There’s a subtle strength to her that always appealed to me, honestly. I liked that in episode 2, when those guys who had beef with Tilaari people as a whole, at first she didn’t even rise to the bait, but when my MC, a little start-something-but-can’t-back-it-up Tilaari prince, threw something at them, and they were about throw hands, she swooped in and p much handled it til June scared them away. I like that dynamic, to switch the trope from damsel in distress to man in distress (because he’s an idiot). There’s this aura about her that makes you wanna automatically respect her, and episode 4, again, she proved her competence and this trend continued in ep 5. Even strong people need someone to take care of them.
Hooooooo boy this was long. Sorry!
If y’all got to this far though, you have my respect. I honestly think the end goal is whether or not the MC will take the crown or remain with A6 crew. And if I’m really honest with myself, I doubt some of these LI will stick with MC if they decide to continue on as the next Peg’asi ruler. Also, I think Cursa being independent will come up again, too. I doubt we’re just hopping planet to planet for nothing...

Andromeda Six Episode 3 and a whirlwind of emotions (spoilers, I guess)
So.... when is episode 4 coming out? Hahahahaaha.... I was just left wanting more after that episode that I want to start the next immediately. I’m ready to take odd jobs this quarantine season so I can make donations to the devs!
No seriously, I’ve been waiting for ep3′s release the moment I opened my eyes this morning. I’ve been doing a lot of things while refreshing itch.io’s page to know if Ep3′s has already been released just yet. And the moment I saw the new files, I jumped right into it!
I went to the Traveler with June as the LI and boy.... It broke my heart. June seems to have the most beef against the royal family you’re part of. And I can’t blame him if he can’t separate the shit the government did to him and to his family from you.... his calm and composed demeanor melted away and revealed the hurting man inside. Honestly, I just want to hug him really tight.
The fact that when you’re pursuing him as a Love Interest adds more to the drama... To think that the person you risked your life to save, became friends with, and eventually, a potential lover, is actually a part of the family who just practically destroyed your life and the lives of those around you, leaving you scarred for the rest of your life. You know that it’s not that person’s fault but you can’t help but see their shadow in that family. Damn, I really want to know how this pans out. I’m sensing one hell of a stormy romance here.
And I’m more than willing to take that dangerous ride with him.
And about the new guy...
Damnit... I need a new playthrough for him! I mean, I still love June... but my ghaaadddddd..... I think a romance with this guy will be dramatic.
I thought Vexx is a red-haired Damon, but no.... he’s in a different level of complicated. Damon can be catty (pun intended) at times but at least he’s genuine in his own way. But Vexx, I’m sniffing another angsty romance drama here as he, on the outside, just says that he’s just using the Traveler to know the secret passages in the palace, and he’s actually a part of the Big Bad’s (Zorvack? I forgot the name) faction. And yet when you pick the flirt options (especially the second one) there are hints that he actually cares about our MC. Another sign that maybe he cares more than he actually admits is instead of capturing the Traveler or just executing her, he just warns her to stay away from the A6 crew and live her new life away from him and them.
I’m certainly looking forward seeing him in the future episodes!
Oh, speaking of Damon....
Ok, we’re definitely friends now. ;) Despite, you know, suggesting that they should just deliver the MC to the enemy just to clear the bounty on their heads. I don’t know what’s going on with that guy’s head... but his fondness for cats closes the deal for me. Although can I at least be a part of his cat-sneaking operation while having him as a Love Interest? Why do all the flirt options must be about the sexual tension? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I just want to sneak a cat with him.
To my surprise, Cal is actually pretty calm about this. I really expect him to be anal about this (well, he is kind of that way in the first part of the episode) but after his initial outburst, he’s supportive and understanding on what’s happening with the Traveler. He even apologized for treating your MC badly at first. He’s certainly a refreshing LI after being entangled with the previous LI’s with complicated personalities.
Honestly, I now see him as Steve Rogers with a temper. hehehehe....
Although I’m curious if this stable relationship is going to last in the future episodes or if something or someone will throw a monkey wrench in this smooth moving gear? (A part of me wishes that it happens because I thrive on dramatic chaos. Mwahahahahahahaha....)
All in all, waiting for this episode is worth the wait. There’s not much plot action since this tackles more on the A6 crew (and Vexx’s) backstory and character but I’m quite fine with it.
The other thing that I like about this episode is that you can somewhat alter the MC’s personality (Emotional, Aloof, and Strong) and that carries on in the future conversations. I hope that it also gets carried over in the future episodes. It adds to the roleplaying factor to the story.
I hope that the next one comes quickly... Damon’s excited to go back home to Cursa. XD.
