SR-71 is on display at the SAC Museum in Ashland, Nebraska. Many folks may recall the SAC Museum in Bellevue, Nebraska, just north of Offutt AFB. In 1998, the new museum moved indoors to its current home in Ashland, which is much more accessible to the public. The new building also allowed the aircraft to be moved indoors and protected from the elements to which they had previously been exposed. The name of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) Museum was officially changed to the Strategic Air & Space Museum.
In 2015, the museum announced another name change to the current Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum to reconnect to the museum's original mission of preserving the history of the Strategic Air Command while promoting interest in aviation and science among the general public. After the end of the Cold War and the shutdown of SAC, the State of Nebraska built a new building for the SAC Museum. It is just off Interstate 80, about halfway between Lincoln and Omaha.
The SR-71 is dramatically displayed in the museum atrium.
Why, Nebraska? After the end of World War II, it was determined that the Midwest was the safest place in America in case of a nuclear war. Today that is not true; Russia has the entire United States covered.

61 years ago Accutron "Astronaut"
By the summer of 1962, Bulova decided to add "Astronaut" on the dial of the Accutron wrist watch in honor of the X-15 pilots and Mercury 7 astronauts. Photos also show the Accutron at the wrist of many support- & test pilots but a lesser known fact is the use of the Accutron "Astronaut" by CIA pilots flying the A-12 Cygnus!
The Mach 3+ capable Lockheed A-12 “Cygnus” first flew in April 1962 but got an upgrade with J58 engines in January 1963. Constructed of Titanium, this successor of the U-2 “Angel” & precursor of the Lockheed SR-71 “Blackbird” only saw operational reconnaissance action for ten months in 1967-1968 above North-Vietnam & North-Korea. During long missions, some lasting up to 5 hours, the fuel remaining was insufficient to provide the needed heatsink for the air conditioning system leading to high cockpit temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius!
Ordinary wristwatches worn on the outside of their pressure suits by military pilots couldn’t hold up to these temperatures. After a few try-outs, the battery-powered Bulova Accutron Astronaut GMT pilot watch held up to testing, so the CIA - Central Intelligence Agency decided to furnish the Accutron tuning fork watch to all CIA pilots flying the A-12.
James Irwin was one of the test pilots flying the YF-12 which made its first flight on August 7, 1963. He later flew to the Moon on Apollo 15.
Moreover, the David Clark company developed the S901-E pressure suit which came with added calf, thigh pockets together with a special watch pocket-lid in the left-hand glove of the white aluminized outer layer suit.

“Yes, she really does. Also, Four, please stop trying to flirt with her through battles. Nobody’s going to be wooed by good you can open the brella shield.”
Four snapped up, a defiant pout on her face. “That’s just what you think, but I’ll have you know that a lot of girls are very impressed by how good I can open the brella shield.”
“Oh yeah? Why don’t you go and ask one of those girls out, then?”
Agent Four was silently glaring for a few seconds, trying her best to set Marie on fire with her eyes alone. It didn’t work.
Finally, she got up, grumbling all the way while dusting off her clothes.
“I,” she announced loudly, “am going home. I will see you tomorrow, Marie.”
