So, not gonna lie, I hadn't even thought about the history of first contacts between the different aliens until today, so thank you for bringing it to my attention!!! I imagine it's been a while since any new planets/aliens have been contacted - maybe not, like, outside of living memory, but it's definitely been a few decades at least.

For exploratory first contacts: I think that record would have to go to the Varied!! Before the time of The Lost, they were super curious and far-reaching, and were what initially connected a lot of planetary systems socially. But they had their own policy kind of like the Prime Directive, so they would only contact those who were out exploring the universe peacefully already, and often would meet them far enough away from planets that if they chose hostility, the Varied could get away without a problem!

For first contacters, though, it's probably the Watchers (whose design I already have but am not going to reveal until they show up in the comic itself). They have no such Prime Directive, because they're really imperial-minded (even if that imperialism is less about resource and land acquisition and more about Attention Holding), and they basically went everywhere the Varied didn't, which was. A Lot of Places.

BUT. The ones who are most first contacted are probably aliens who either can't or don't participate in space travel - I came up with a rough idea for one such type for this ask, too! I imagine they're mostly burrowers, with no eyes to navigate the stars and a culture whose main curiosity of a planetary scale is creating more space for themselves by venting the core of their planet to thicken the crust without completely destroying its geothermal cycle.

(Based on pangolins, star-nosed moles, and sea urchins, all of which are burrowing animals!)

does anakin get more therapy but also hugs and kisses? i think he deserves them

aww thank you!!! I’m glad you liked it so much I remember writing it in like an afternoon because I knew exactly what I wanted to say and how I wanted it to go

anakin probably does get a lot of therapy and Jedi counseling that obi-wan coaxes him into actually listening to and accepting despite his tendency to ignore/not process Jedi advice if it’s steeped in suggestions to meditate etc etc

I think what helps this anakin most is that obi-wan gets a new padawan and he’s like a surly thirteen year old who was chosen by a master at 9 and then lost her during the war — and the padawan acts out and doesn’t want to talk and likes glaring at obiwan a lot and obiwan is just smitten and anakin’s like he reminds you of me 🤨

and obi-wan is like a little bit yes but he also reminds me of me at that age and that draws anakin up short because none of those qualities he sees in himself or in the padawan make him think of obi-wan but can rough edges like the ones this padawan have and the ones anakin have really be smoothed out into a man like obi-wan?

and then he gets to treat this young version of himself with kindness and gentleness he never shows himself and he can also see obi-wan, the guy he loves most in the galaxy, also treat this younger version of himself with kindness and gentleness

and it’s not healing via loving someone else but it’s healing because of tue love you have for others becomes the love you can have for yourself and that you learn to show yourself

the complicated relationship between gavrila and her father has to be one of my favourite things about the whole story and "weak hands" snippet is just the tip of the iceberg for them. it's fun to look for ways to shove little clues about father's toughts and feelings and behaviours in-between the lines, especially since gavrila is not the most reliable nor objective main character. i hope to share more snippets soon—

Mhm, I don't think she would be just... generally meaner, but in the context and position she would find herself in? In the mafia, where women aren't exactly held in high regard? Yeah, intimidation, ruthlessness and cruelty would be her ways to flip that situation on its head and be feared -> therefore not messed with.

Though I imagine, as she wouldn't just magically turn evil one day, having to keep up such a persona would definitely take a toll on her...

BOY DO I HAVE SOME FUNKY ANIMALS FOR YOU!!! I don't tend to draw on any particular mythos when creating Creachures - instead, I take different real-world animals with the vibes/functions/niches I'm going for and put them in a blender with a funky color pallette. Here's some illustrations I've done in the past for a few of them!!

First up, we have our Feathered Ungulates, the Dreamdancers and Spiritseekers (more detail on the Spiritseekers and varieties for Emarye, Sieril, and more coming to a tumblr near you at Some Point):
