it's so weird to me that horses aren't utilised more in acotar or carriages or ships??? like mortals seem to use them and eris rode into battle on a horse, but how are regular fae getting around if they can't fly or winnow or do they just exist and not go anywhere else

can they visit other courts? are there relationships strictly limited to the court they reside in?

Do fae’s purr? Is it something they can do? I’m a sucker for big monsters that purr. If not purr do they growl? Or better yet BOTH????

The fae in my au absolutely purr and growl! They make all sorts of noises that humans don't to different degrees. König especially is very noisy, initially he was supposed to click and chitter like a bat when he was curious about something, but I couldn't find the right words to describe it so he hasn't done it yet.

Ghost absolutely makes a lot of angry noises: growls, snarls, a good throaty rrrrrrr. But he has to put a little work into purring because he's not used to it. It probably sounds similar to how humans "purr" sort of low in the back of his throat.

König is much more animalistic and uses noise to express himself first before speaking. I think of him like an overgrown cat: chuffing, proper purring, growling, he could probably do a good little chirrup if he was particularly happy with something. All deep in his chest, good rumbly sounds the Liebling likes the lay her head on and listen to.

Soap doesn't make as much noise. Definitely still has a good growl, but I think he's just more comfortable with speaking. He also is supposed to click, but it's more of a danger/warning sound, a little more insect than bat. He kinda freaks Liebling out.

Gaz is in the same boat as Soap. More reliant on his words, but he chuffs like a big cat too. He and Soap have similar hunting styles so they have similar vocal tricks. I think he is out of practice purring because he hasn't been too attached to his previous darlings. But once he finds the One he's a purring machine.

Bonus: Love starts purring when she settles in to being fae touched and it freaks Liebling out the first time it happens. Liebling growls and König on accident and gets fucked within an inch of her life.

Price does not click but he does everything else. He spends a lot of time around the fae and in the fae wild so he's used to making noise. That said he's only gonna growl once before he bites. Another big cat exhale purr-er unlike König's sustained purr, this is a calming sound mainly, for putting the 141 boys back in order.

#this is where i categorize König as a small cat despite his size #this is mostly based on how Fae different boys are and the way they function within fae society #also god this isnt really a spoiler but Soap is sort of... spider-y #he traps and hunts darlings in a very specific way #fae au

Listen, I know fae society is shit to changelings, but it’s kind of funny that Jack is saying that to Kieran, who’s taken a mortal as his consort.

Idk man, I feel like the fae royal with the mortal partner who’s on track to sire an army of changelings from how incurably horny he is for his lover is not as likely to discriminate against them as you think.

when the intrigue starts intriguing (fic snippet under the cut because what do you know. sharing my writing still gives me the Horrors)

(so i have a lot of thoughts about Cameron as a betrayer even though he is one in this fic, because he's seriously just looking for a reason, ANY reason, to not betray anyone at all. he's desperately trying to find the tiniest of ways to excuse himself into doing the right thing, and Neil WILL NOT GIVE IT TO HIM. not even out of malice, he just wears his heart sewn to his sleeve like it's fucking applique. this plays into a bunch of dynamics re: fic that essentially end up as "jesus CHRIST, this guy isn't suited for politics", but i think it's summed up well here - Cameron asking Neil for a reason to make him stay, to stop him from reporting back to Neil's father, and being met with mockery, because in Neil's view, what's the point of befriending a traitor? they remain a traitor anyway. and then from Cameron's view this is the final straw on the back of the camel.)

I was wondering, do Love and Liebling ever see what’s hiding under the obscuras? Do they ever know the true face of the monsters beneath the masks? Liebling got a little peek when fae!König first arrived. I’m so curious what ghost and König are really hiding 👀

I hope you have a wonderful vacation in Spain, and that you get to rest and relax while you’re there!

Liebling sees through Ghost's obscura every time he enters the shop and it scares the shit out of her every time. That said she is only seeing his mask, not his real face. I don't think she would ever get to see his real face tbh, but it's not for her to see so *shrug*. König on the other hand very much does show her his face. He's very nervous about it but she asks and he can't say no to her. (Un)Surprisingly she likes his true face a lot, mostly because it's him but König still wears his hood around her. Mostly for his own comfort.

Ghost drops his obscura for Love after a lot of coaxing, and when she complains that she meant his face not a mask he hesitantly shows her that as well. He is painfully human under his mask, desperately clinging to the fae wild but... it's there plain to see, what once was and what their children will look like. Love adores his true face, and he gets used to dropping his mask and obscura at the door when he gets home. I think the human face he shows normally is pretty close to his true face, just less. I don't know how to describe it, but it's not as much Simon as his true face is. Like with Soap I think he looks too alive, just past human, like the light on an angler fish he's enticing. But he's also scarred under the mask, and that's what I think he's hiding more than his humanity.
