Have Some TWST Fan Lore Part 1: The Arcane Exchange
First of all, credit to @cyanide-latte for coming up with the event name because it just sounds so lovely, doesn't it?
Now, the Arcane Exchange itself is a fairly straightforward "what it says on the tin situation"; it's Twisted Wonderland's version of a student exchange program.
For approximately three months a year (my friends & I are currently working off the idea that this begins very shortly after the end of Book 4's events), students from various arcane academies will host each other and participate in certain events meant to strengthen the bond between the schools without it necessarily having to be competitive. After all, one of the last events that happens before the students are sent back to their respective schools is the National Arcane Academy Culture Fair that mainly works as an expo/convention (aside from the SDC, but you know).
There's a fairly substantial number of students from each school that get selected to participate, and then those various groups are semi-randomly split up amongst the other academies. (i.e Night Raven will host only some of the students from the other academies. Meanwhile, the NRC students going abroad for the exchange will be separated among the other schools).
In the case of Night Raven specifically, all visiting students are distributed amongst the seven dorms in a shared learning experience 'like a great big sleepover'. This is met with mixed results most times, but nothing too crazy since there are enough empty beds based on the number of NRC students having gone off to the other academies.
Speaking of, lets get into the schools involved in the Arcane Exchange!
Night Raven College and Royal Sword Academy are the obvious picks, but that's also a rather obvious recipe for disaster due to their long-established rivalry...if left on their own, at least. Hence the inclusion of other schools to act as a kind of buffer that actually tends to work due to the neutrality of the other two schools.
Noble Bell College does participate(probably the least since they seem to be the smallest school in both scope & population), and the group of myself, Cy, @ramshacklerumble, and @simons-twsted-children have even recently discussed an interesting debate on whether Noble Bell is co-ed. This is important due to the final participant of the Arcane Exchange.
Corlux Key Seminary(CKS), a paramilitary arcane institution of my own creation that will be discussed in more detail in a later post. Corlux is explicitly co-ed in both students and staff; the gender distribution is almost perfectly split down the middle if not outright in favor of the female-identifying population. Despite this progressiveness, however, the Arcane Exchange a bit of an interesting sticking point for CKS (& NBC to a certain extent). While the male students can be assigned to whatever institution they like, the female students of both schools are only ever exchanged with each other. In regard to any potential PR nightmare an incident occurring on campus could cause, this makes sense. Doesn't mean it's not a bit sexist though.
The Arcane Exchange is a fairly standard practice that has even fostered some grand shows of academic comradery, though there have been some....memorable moments over the years as well. For instance, the Arcane Exchange that happened the year before TWST canon starts was Not Fun for NRC as hosts because both the RSA & CKS kids were terrible. As in 'it was considered the 'trial by fire' for both Riddle as a freshman-year Housewarden & the OctoTrio as the staff of the newly-opened Mostro Lounge' kind of terrible. As such, none of the Housewardens are particularly excited when the meeting before the start of the canon-year's exchange approaches. And they're about to feel a lot more ill-at-ease when Crowley rather casually drops this little bombshell;
For the first time since the start of this most noble tradition, Night Raven College will be opening its doors to a selection of female students from Corlux as a kind of experiment of 'broadening horizons & relations' between the academies. If this particular Aracne Exchange proves to be successful (meaning nobody does anything to 'embarrass' NRC and/or CKS), then there's the chance of expanding the openings for female students to participate at RSA's end of the Exchange as well as Noble Bell being able to similarly 'branch out' as it were.
Now that begs the question; is Crowley really about to let a relatively small group of girls onto an all-boys campus & just have them shack-up in the dorms? "NO! Absolutely not; I would never do anything so foolish and dangerous to those promising young pupils! As a matter of fact, I have arranged for all of the female participants to have accommodations all to themselves for their comfort and safety. Oh how generous I am; it's almost unnerving!" Now if only Crowley had thought to mention to the host of those accommodations that they're about to find themselves with a LOT more roommates than the usual weasel.
Apologies to one Gia Yugo...

Random question, Prince. Do you think Lydia had any banshee experiences before Peter bit her? Maybe little incidents she kind of shrugged off?
Tumblr media
I think it's most likely that she was slowly beginning to experience manifestations of her power. After all, Lorraine foresaw her need for supernatural protection. Peter's bite was simply "the spark that lit [her] fire" earlier than it might have happened naturally. For evidence, I want to look at three scenes from the show that indicated Lydia having supernatural insight before Formality (1x11).
The first is a flashback happening all the way in Season 5's Required Reading (5x06). Now, since it is a flashback, there is an air of unreality to it, but I'll argue that, while the details could have been different, the event still happened.
We know that Lorraine Martin was a patient at Eichen House, where she was in the care and ultimately murdered by Brunski. There was at least one situation where Natalie was called into the mental health facility. In the flashback, Lorraine had drilled a hole in her head. What exactly happened can be up to interpretation; it could have been Lydia's powers trying to warn her of what Valack was going to do to her. But we do know that Lydia found her way to the scene, only for Natalie to yell at her "I told you to stay in the car!"
Why did Lydia go in there? How was she able to infiltrate Eichen House, which as dingy and horrific as it was, still seemed to have formidable security? I would argue that Lydia got in the same way Meredith seemed to be able to get out when the other banshee felt like she needed to do so: her powers. Lydia needed to see what had happened to her grandmother, so -- much like her fugue states later on when she became a teenager -- she went where she needed to be in order for that to happen.
Now, the reason I think this really occurred and it wasn't a novel-induced nightmare were two separate scenes -- the first is in The Last Chimera (5x11) where a psychically traumatized Lydia warns her mother by repeating that phrase "I told you to stay in the car!" and Lydia's later reaction to Jackson's insistence that she stay in the car in Night School (1x07). Just it is possible that the traumatized Lydia was trying to warn her mother not to let Valack/Fenris take her to Eichen House, Lydia subconsciously sensed that something dangerous was going to happen to people she cared about (at the time, Allison and Jackson) inside the school. Her insistence on going inside could be instinctual, as she had no problem waiting in the car earlier that season, in The Tell (1x05).
That is also the scene which I believe is the third pre-Formality manifestation of Lydia's powers. She did not get a flash of insight in front of the Videos 2C, but she did scream. I would argue that this is the first scene where particular attention was paid to not only Lydia screaming, but on her face and her mouth while she was screaming. It was not just out of shock -- she had no idea that there was a dead body and Jackson had been attacked -- it was a reaction to Peter's presence and what he meant for her and all the people she cared about. The show wanted us to think the scream as noteworthy.
Because so does Peter. When the Sheriff shows Deaton the footage from the security camera in front of Videos 2C, they see Peter change from alpha-monster to human form a few feet behind the car in which Lydia is in. Why? In previous episodes, Peter hasn't shown any trouble staying in that form, so why take human form where he could be seen? My head canon is that he heard something in Lydia's scream, something that shocked him before leading him to realize that she would be perfect for his "back-up plan." Peter demonstrates throughout the show a wider knowledge of the esoteric than Derek does (the ritual to heal Cora, True Alphas, berserkers, even nogitsunes). I suspect he either recognized a banshee's wail the same way the Darach did or he was interested enough to do a little research in that laptop he transferred all of the Hale family files to a few weeks after he got out of the coma.

Devil May cry au everyone lives traumatized!
So so I wanted to combined two ideas of what if Eva survives and what if Sparda survived..
(We are under the assumption that Virgil is Dante's older brother of 5-8ish years like OG DMC 1 canon Near identical face/ different age )
The tragedy that separated the Sparta family affected each of its members differently.
----------
Eva was a woman of principle, a umbra witch a woman self-taught of the mystic ways of summoning demons with a monster fcking fetish . She got the demon boy she got the skills her life should have been happily ever after.
Then the damn attack occurred. She would admit it herself she wasn't the best mother.( Who let the kid run around with swords, she probably should have sent them to some sort of school instead of individualized education based off of their interests and needs. They probably should have gotten more experience with friends and other people who would care. ) But damn it all did she love her kids. They were her blessed children.
Eva looking through the ashes of the home. She Was not able Not even find her youngest son. Her eldest she feared was already gone dead. Perished cut down for the simple sake of being a hybrid.
Even her husband was gone.
She was all alone. First time in years. This is when she made her vow to hunt down the infernals of hell and eradicate those who sought to eliminate her family and her. Damn the umbra witch code. They were dead order barely surviving off of Madame Jeanne de Arc. She would look at heaven and Earth and hell for her children but she could not find them.
Not until decades later when they didn't even need her.
--------
The devil night Sparta was in mourning. The blaze and the battle had tooken so much from him.
"It's all my fault" he wept, as if the entire event was solely on his shoulders and not those of his enemies.
It's because of my fame, my notoriety and pride that enabled these freaks to have enough leverage to attempt to kill me and my family.
My entire family is eradication
was because of my greed for the limelight. It seems this world is worse f with me in it. "And so the devil Knight takes his self-imposed exile. Not knowing that his wife and children are in need of theirpatriarch.
---+--------
The eldest son was in a different position. He saw the army that his father took against. Then that would ultimately to his father's downfall. If only he had more power more strength he could have fought with his father and protect his family.
All alone, he wished he could have saved his family had he been a little bit stronger.
"I need more power I need to grow in power or else I will be weak and worthless pathetic
I lost my entire family because of that. No more"
____________
And last but the youngest son, he had witnessed his mother in her final moments and her words struck a chord with him
Hls mother said to live a better life, a happy life don't abandon your family heritage, But don't forget to live. Run away if you must, but be safe and live and grow strong to protect yourself and others.
Dante the youngest son would struggle everyday to bribe steel and make not only a new identity to get an education but to live and to grow. Eventually he would grow into a famous demon Hunter.
The devil brothers would meet again in a strange Tower. Their ideology opposed to one another
one for powers for power sake,
The other craved power for protecting oneself and others.
The family would truly meet up and be reunited during
The Qliphoth incident. Sparta could no longer allow such devastation upon the human world. Eva could no longer allow anyone to die of such a ratchet pain.
Dante was hired for this by a strange man named v
Along with his nephew that he has yet to revealed he knew.
Bayonetta and Jeanne also there.
Their with Eva.

man the games really never explore how traumatising that must've been for Phoenix (and maya). Like there aren't many instances I can think of where someone very close to the victim actually sees the body while they're still warm (closest I can think is athena? But I'm probably forgetting some). Like at that time in his life Phoenix had no one in his corner but Mia (and Larry? Kinda) And then she was just gone. And he saw her body!! Mia left the village and was probably also the only person Maya had that was looking out for her, bc Morgan definitely wasn't. and i think it's never really shown how traumatising that would've been for both of them. I never really see it in fanworks either? mia was his mentor and her big sister. she was someone who looked after them both... for a moment when she was gone they had nobody until they had each other. Augh
SERIOUSLY like okay one of the first things we really learn about maya is that literally everyone in her immediate family had gone and left her behind:
Phoenix: What about your family?
Maya: I only had my sister. My father died when I was very young. And I don't know where my mother is.
Phoenix: (Don't know...? So she could still be alive?)
[...]
Maya: About fifteen years ago, our family was involved in an... incident. There was a man, and he... he... He ruined our mother's life.
Phoenix: ("Ruined"...?)
Maya: After that, she disappeared. Several years after that, my sister announced she would "become a lawyer" and she left the mountain.
Phoenix: ... So, you live by yourself?
Maya: Yes. I've gotten used to it. Oh, also... I had to become independent, or I would lose my E.S.P.!
Phoenix: (I feel bad for her, all by herself up on that mountain...)
and of course as we know from justice for all, morgan is...morgan. and pearl is just a little kid, and morgan seems to do her damndest to keep her separate from anyone and anything so that pearl will listen to her and only her. mia really WAS the only one truly looking out for maya in any way, shape or form, even if she'd left her behind as well (at least she kept in contact! and maya canonically went down to the city to visit her sometimes. it's better than being wholly abandoned, at the very least). and phoenix!!!! it's mentioned in turnabout memories that phoenix does have friends in college (plural) but when we get to aa1 it really doesn't seem like he has any friends other than larry, who is...larry. and who phoenix seems to grow extremely discontent with following the events of turnabout goodbyes to the point where he seems to barely be able to tolerate him in aa3. and there could be many for reasons for phoenix's seemingly giant drop in friends, one being that he got accused of murder and rumors can be the death of anyone's social standing in a school environment and another being that he was studying LAW and had no fucking time for social connections other than one flaky friend who dropped in and out of his life seemingly at whim. or both! or neither! who knows!
but you're so right is the thing! the picture that is painted at the beginning of aa1 is that mia really was the only person in maya and phoenix's corner at that time and for that time frame between them discovering mia's body and phoenix promising maya he wouldn't abandon her they literally had no one else. they walked in on mia's body practically moments after her death and for a second there they were both truly alone. and mia was close enough to the both of them that she realized that and so she leaves maya a note that says: "take care of phoenix for me." and then down the line she looks at phoenix and asks him "...watch over her, will you, phoenix?" and phoenix says "of course." like it's not even a question. of course he'll look after her.
and the thing about aa3 is!! it doesn't explicitly have phoenix start saying things like "i blame myself for not getting there in time to save mia" because...it has godot to do that for him. godot IS very much phoenix's narrative foil and it sort of becomes really really really clear that phoenix...DOES blame himself for not getting there in time. because whenever godot throws those accusations at him:
Godot: It was two years ago... Mia Fey was pursuing someone. A man. But she bit off more than she could chew. She made a very dangerous enemy.
Phoenix: (Yeah, that's one case I'll never forget.) But... I got that guy! Personally!
Godot: Sure. Ms. Fey's murderer was caught. But that won't bring her back!
Phoenix: W-Well, no... but...
Godot: You were with her at the time. You and no one else. It was your responsibility! You should have protected her!
Phoenix: I...!
Godot: You say Mia Fey was your teacher! Well then, I'd say you've learned nothing, Trite! You robbed her of her life. And now... ...you've let her sister suffer the same fate!
Phoenix: (I... I haven't sentenced Maya to death...! No...!)
[...]
Godot: You were the only one who was there to protect her! But you let her die. It was all your fault.
Phoenix: I... It wasn't like that...
phoenix's rebuttals? are half-hearted at best. he tries (VERY weakly) to insist that at least he got redd white in the end, but the minute godot puts on the pressure phoenix is at a complete loss for words. he's BARELY denying it. he's trailing off the minute he tries. and i think the fact that he's doing that combined with the fact that godot is literally MEANT to be phoenix's narrative foil is pretty much proof that this is something that phoenix has actually thought to himself ever since mia died. he sat with her body until she went cold!!!! the idea that he wouldn't connect the dots and realize that if he'd just gotten to the office a little bit sooner maybe mia would still be alive is laughable.
but let's back up for a minute and talk about maya. let's rewind all the way back to turnabout goodbyes, when maya seemingly hit the lowest point she ever had in the games:
Maya: The letter! Did he take it?
Phoenix: Huh!? Oh... yeah. A-are you okay!?
Maya: ... I... I couldn't stop him. I jumped as fast as I could, but one shot from that thing knocked me out cold. I'm useless. I'm no good as a lawyer, or a medium! I can't even call my sister. Not even now, when we need her the most. I wish I hadn't woken up at all.
Phoenix: Maya!
maya spends the ENTIRETY of turnabout goodbyes wanting to be useful to phoenix in some way and getting so legitimately upset at the fact that everything she tries to do seems to go wrong. the conversation phoenix has with her and larry (where he tells her that he believes in larry and edgeworth over her, because this is aa1 and at this point phoenix is being driven by his idealizations and memories of the class trial) doesn't help matters, either. and at first you kind of wonder WHY it is that maya is trying so hard to be useful to phoenix, WHY she's taking it so hard that she can't fully help this guy who may be her new friend but is still someone she only met fairly recently, until you remember mia's letter: "take care of phoenix for me." that was what mia wrote to her, and in her eyes she's failing at the last request her sister ever asked of her. and maya arrived FIRST on the scene to find mia's body, is the thing. SHE would've found mia's still-warm corpse and realized that if SHE had been any earlier, maybe SHE could've done something to stop mia's murder. and now she seemingly can't even fulfill the last thing mia asked her to do. she straight up says she wishes she was dead. it's heartbreaking!
i've gone off on a whole tangent but i think my point is that while the games don't explore phoenix and maya's innermost thoughts about the traumatic experience of walking in on the body of someone you loved, there do seem to be nods to it that at least acknowledge that phoenix and maya DO have issues pertaining to it. but they also acknowledge that even if mia is gone, maya and phoenix have each other and will ALWAYS have each other ("you know i would never desert you!"/"you're one of us, nick!") and even if mia's death drags them down sometimes, having each other helps. they're looking after each other just like mia asked them to, but they're also looking after each other because they've grown to love each other over the course of the trilogy and have started to treat each other like the family they never had—no matter what comes their way, of course they have each other. of course maya will take care of phoenix. of course phoenix will watch over maya. of course. of course!

ponypop wip preview
I'm working on a multi-chapter (!) ponypop fic set years after canon, when Ponyboy is in college at the University of Tulsa. It's been really fun imagining what has changed since the events of The Outsiders, and what hasn't. Here's a snippet concerning one of those headcanons:
****
I guess I ought to explain a few things, including why Soda and I were still sharing a bed nearly seven years after Mom and Dad died. When we’d started, there was an unspoken assumption that it was a temporary arrangement. After Johnny and Dally my nightmares got worse again, but eventually they tapered off. It got to the point that I was almost relieved to wake up in a sweat to Sodapop gently shaking my shoulder and saying, “It’s okay, honey, it’s just a dream,” because it meant we still had an excuse.
Then maybe around 18 months since the accident (it’d be impossible to pinpoint more exactly) some sort of shift happened. Soda and I never discussed it, but I’m sure he felt it too. Sleeping together stopped being because of the nightmares, and started being because stopping would mean admitting that I was fine without him, and probably had been for a while. Stopping at all would mean that we could’ve stopped months or even a year ago.
I was never ashamed of sharing a bed with Soda, but I became chary of mentioning it in public. When I was sixteen or seventeen I’d said something offhanded about it at school, and a pig-nosed girl named Suzie Owens asked in shock if we were so poor we couldn’t afford enough beds. I went red as a lobster and informed her we had a four bedroom house with plenty of furniture; Soda and I just liked to share. Then she got a funny look on her face and asked what sort of baby still slept with his brother in high school. Luckily the bell rang and saved me from answering.
If there was a time to have gone back to sleeping separate with minimal embarrassment, that would’ve been it. But the incident didn’t make me want to stop. It just made me determined to keep it to myself better, and with that determination it became more impossible than ever to imagine stopping. Darry never questioned it, and Soda never mentioned missing his old room, and I never mentioned wanting mine to myself. It wasn’t my room anymore, anyway; it was Soda’s and mine. Our room, our bed, and what it came down to was that neither of us wanted to change that. We’d lost something irreplaceable when our parents died, and while sleeping together didn’t make up for it, at least we’d found something, a new sort of comfort and closeness, that we wouldn’t have otherwise. We saw no reason to give it up.

Who Made the Disruptor Invention First Theory: Zach or Aviva?
While Rewatching “A Creature Christmas”… I noticed this:
Tumblr media
Which reminded me of this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I realized that Zach and Aviva both have inventions that have the capability of disrupting/destroying other inventions, and they used these inventions to destroy each other’s inventions. My interest was peaked, however, because I started to wonder who created their disruptor invention first.
I will preface this post/argument with the fact that I am relatively new to the Wild Kratts Fandom, and I have yet to watch all the episodes. But, if my interpretation of the chronology of events in the series is correct, it was Zach’s Disrupto Beam that we first saw introduced in the series.
Since this explanation is pretty long, please see more below the cut 😊:
The Disrupto Beam was featured in the “Gila Monster Under My House” episode, which was one of Season 2’s episodes. The Tortuga’s Disruptor Blast was not utilized until “A Creature Christmas,” which was a Season 4 episode.
This leads me to two trains for thought. If I am correct in believing that this was the first time the Tourtuga’s Disruptor Blast function was used, then may it be safe to say that Aviva installed this function into the Tortuga after encountering Zach’s Disruptor Beam?
In the Gila Monster episode, Aviva vehemently admits that she cannot stand when her inventions are destroyed. Koki distracts Aviva and helps to calm her anger by convincing her to make a gila monster power disk that the bros can use against Zach. Aviva agrees and creates the power disks, but I am not convinced that she just let go of this incident.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Due to Aviva’s nature, I can see her wanting to best Zach and create an invention similar to his that could also be used to destroy his inventions like he destroyed her’s. This desire, in turn, led to Aviva installing the Disruptor Blast function into the Tortuga. Aviva waited patiently until the perfect moment to use this invention against Zach: The Christmas episode.
That argument only stands if I did not miss a previous episode where the Tourtuga’s Disruptor Blast function was used. If I indeed missed such an episode, and even if my assumption in this matter is correct, this leads me to my second point: that Aviva and Zach may have worked on such an invention together at some point in their past.
I know a lot of members of the fandom have recently been questioning what the nature of Zach and Aviva’s relationship was prior to the start of the Wild Kratts series. And it seems to be a general consensus that their backstory is much larger than the “rivals during one summer at camp” story.
A head canon of mine is that Aviva and Zach may have potentially gone to school together at some point, and the college rivals idea really speaks to me. I can imagine them as being the type of students that begrudgingly worked on projects together because they acknowledged that they each were very skilled inventors.
Tumblr media
Maybe one of the inventions they worked on together at some point was a Disruptor Beam/Blast of some sort? They both knew how to create this invention from their experience working together, so when they went their separate ways, they each created their own form of this invention. Perhaps, and this is just my opinion, with the intention of one day using such an invention against the other.
That was very long winded, sorry y’all. Hope you enjoy this little rant of mine!

Gonna talk about Book 2 underneath the cut.
Originally, I was gonna talk about both Books 2 & 3 in the same post since I had thought I had covered most of Book 2 thanks to my Savanaclaw bias, but I ended up proving myself wrong once I started working on this post so I’ll save Book 3 for a separate post lol My bias is just too strong apparently 😂
To start things off, Yuu & Grim get pulled into the investigation by Crowley cause Grim wants to be in the tournament, and Yuu is afraid of what will happen to her if she fails to be useful to Crowley, who’s the reason she has a roof over her head and food to eat.
The earlier interviews with the victims proceed more smoothly than in canon because Yuu does most of the talking and reels Grim in lol It also helps that Yuu is a girl since girls are treated pretty well in TW even by NRC guys.
(However, that’s not to say that Yuu’s presence is wholly welcome at NRC since there are some behind the scenes complaints about how a magicless student got into the school and how she shouldn’t receive special treatment just because she’s a girl.
That’s the extent of things, though, since none of the guys would actually go so far as to physically bully Yuu since they fear the repercussions. At the most, Yuu will occasionally hear snide comments, most of which she’ll just ignore. The only times she’ll react are whenever she hears anyone make a perverted comment about her since she’ll never let that slide.
Another thing that gets brought up by other students is that Yuu is a common factor in all the Overblot incidents, so she’s got a reputation thanks to that, which weighs on her mind more than she’d like to admit since she also finds herself wondering if she’s to blame for the incidents.
However, overall, Yuu ends up developing a positive reputation amongst the dorms once she plays a role in helping their dorms during the book events. She’s especially popular amongst the first years since she’ll help them out with schoolwork related questions or give them advice on how to talk to girls lol)
It’s during that first day of investigating that Yuu gets a vision of Trey falling down the stairs after he saves Riddle.
Even though she’s never prevented an event like this, Yuu immediately takes off running, much to Grim’s surprise/confusion, desperate to get to the staircase from her vision before it’s too late.
Fortunately, just as the events from her vision happen, Yuu appears behind Trey and Riddle, latches onto both of them, and uses all her strength to pull them backwards, resulting in them all falling to the floor/top of the stairs.
Much to Yuu’s great relief/disbelief, she actually succeeds in preventing the events from her vision from happening. She had always thought the future was set in stone, but now, she’s starting to think that’s actually not the case, which gives her hope.
Unfortunately, her happy moment doesn’t last for long since this is when Yuu learns that her Quirk has another drawback. If she prevents a serious injury from happening, she’ll take the pain of that injury, meaning Trey’s pain from canon gets transferred to her.
Because she had never prevented an injury before, Yuu is completely caught off guard when her ankle suddenly starts hurting. Riddle & Trey are obviously worried about her and insist on taking her to the infirmary.
When she gets looked over, Yuu is told that she’s showing no signs of injury other than the fact that she’s obviously in pain which confuses everyone involved.
Eventually, Yuu is able to put two and two together once she realizes that the pain she received was after saving Trey who would’ve been injured in the same place as her if he had fallen.
Needless to say, when Yuu reluctantly shares her theory, Riddle & Trey are less than pleased, but thankfully, Yuu is able to avoid a scolding for being reckless since she had no idea she had this kind of drawback.
More than anything, Riddle & Trey just feel guilty since they each feel that they’re to blame for Yuu’s current predicament.
Which is why Riddle fully intends to take responsibility for this matter and won’t allow Yuu to tell him otherwise.
This is how Yuu and Grim end up staying at Heartslabyul since Ramshackle is far from being a healthy environment for recovery, even though she’s technically not injured. Plus, there would only be Grim around to look after Yuu, which no one sees as a good idea.
Because there aren’t any vacant rooms at Heartslabyul and Riddle doesn’t think it’s appropriate for a lady to sleep in the same room as guys, Riddle volunteers his room for her to stay in since the dorm leader is the only one who doesn’t have a roommate.
While Yuu feels bad and doesn’t want Riddle to give up his room for her sake, Riddle refuses to change his mind. In regards to where Riddle stays, I could see Trey offering up his bed, fully intending to take the couch in the lounge, but since Riddle likely wouldn’t approve of anyone sleeping anywhere outside of their assigned rooms, Trey would either end up sharing his bed with Riddle or would just bring a cot or something else he can sleep on into his room.
In addition to temporarily moving into Heartslabyul, Yuu is taken off the investigation team because no one wants her to move around more than necessary. Instead, Grim will be working with the Heartslabyul guys to find the culprit since they all have plenty enough reason to wanna catch whoever’s responsible.
(Deuce is on the warpath to avenge Yuu, even though she wasn’t actually targeted/injured, and while he won’t admit it, Ace feels similarly.)
Yuu dislikes the idea of making the guys do all the work just because she’s in pain. It makes her feel useless, like a burden, and makes her think that Crowley will view her similarly since she’s not pulling her own weight.
(Yuu is very independent in this regard since she’s not used to people willingly helping her/offering her support. She was dependent on Mumei & Tokumei for money/education/etc. but everything else was basically on her, so she’s really out of sorts in this situation.)
She tries not to let her feelings show, though, since she knows Riddle and the others truly want to help her, which she really appreciates since it does make her happy. She just internally struggles with this thought process a lot during Book 2.
So, during this time while she’s “injured”, Yuu just goes to class using crutches and heads back to the Heartslabyul dorm, always with an escort, just in case something happens.
Thankfully, like in TABF, the effects of her drawback wear off after two days, so she’s pain free at that point.
The pain disappears while she’s alone at the Heartslabyul dorm, and upon realizing she’s back to normal, Yuu immediately heads out to join the others and help with the investigation.
(While everything happens within what looks like the span of a few days in the game, I like the idea of things being more spread out, so there are several days for the investigation and her time with Savanaclaw.)
Just after she leaves Heartslabyul and enters the room with all the dorm mirrors, Yuu has a vision that reveals everyone making the discovery that Ruggie is the culprit they’ve all been looking for.
Yuu is naturally very surprised by this as well as disappointed that someone she considers a friend is cheating like this, even though she knows this isn’t that unusual for NRC students.
Unfortunately for her, when her vision ends, she finds herself face-to-face with Ruggie who had been eying her in concern. He had been trying to talk to her but never got a response due to her being caught up in her vision.
Naturally, Yuu is immediately on edge since she knows the truth about Ruggie, but she tries to play it cool since she doesn’t want him to find out about her Quirk.
Regrettably, her efforts are futile since Ruggie has already found out about her power of foresight after spying on her and the others when they went to the infirmary the other day.
And because he’s so observant, it doesn’t take him long to tell that she knows something that she doesn’t want him to know, which he assumes is the fact that he’s the culprit.
Which is why he proceeds to use his UM to make her come with him to his dorm since Leona ordered him to bring her to the dorm, which Ruggie has been waiting for the right opportunity to do since receiving that order. The Heartslabyul guys had just been making this task difficult for him since they’ve been constantly with Yuu up until this point.
From there on, things proceed like I mentioned in previous posts.
As far as her dreams are concerned, Yuu initially just has dreams revolved around The Lion King, but when she starts staying at the Savanaclaw dorm, her dreams start to also show her memories of Leona’s past, which help her get a better insight into his character.
Eventually, after she comes to the Savanaclaw dorm, Yuu has a vision about Leona’s Overblot and is immensely concerned since she doesn’t want what happened to Riddle to happen to Leona.
For this reason, she puts off making escape attempts, although she honestly was reluctant to try anyway since she wasn’t convinced she could pull it off, because she wants to focus on doing whatever she can to keep Leona from Overblotting, which mostly consists of her trying to subtly check on his mental state since negative emotions play a huge role in the OB process.
All the while, Yuu’s doing her best not to panic since her instincts are telling her that the vision she saw was of a major event that she can’t prevent.
Her instincts are proven true when at one point she does try to tell Leona what she saw only to get a horrible splitting headache for her troubles, so she refrains from trying to tell him or anyone else what she saw.
Yuu’s earlier worries about being useless really come into play here since she’s panicking about Leona’s fate and feeling that she can’t do anything to prevent it, which frustrates her since why have a power like this if she can’t use it when it really counts?
There’s a period of time when Yuu just withdraws into herself since she feels alone due to being the only one in the know and because she feels that she doesn’t have anyone but herself to rely on, which parallels her life back in the underworld.
She’s just so worried about Leona and scared about what could happen to him if she fails, and the pressure is getting to her.
Ruggie and Leona, of course, take notice of Yuu’s change in demeanor. Ruggie gets worried about her thinking that her prolonged stay at their dorm is somehow having a negative effect on her well-being since she has less energy, seems paler, and just looks miserable, even though she clearly tries to hide it.
Leona thinks something else is going on, because he has seen her give him pained looks when she thinks he’s not looking, which makes him think he’s somehow involved with whatever’s bothering her, which bothers him more than he’d like to admit.
In the end, both Ruggle & Leona help Yuu out in their own ways to get over this rough patch. Ruggie fusses over her and spends a lot of his free time with her in hopes of figuring out what’s wrong and helping her feel better, providing the support she desperately needs.
Meanwhile, Leona just bluntly addresses the matter with her. While he doesn’t demand that she tell him everything, he tells her that he wants to hear something from her that will shed some light on why she’s been acting so strangely as of late.
Since she can’t tell him about her vision outright, Yuu eventually just admits that she feels powerless/useless because she has foreseen something horrible happening that she wants to prevent but she doesn’t think that she can do it.
While he doesn’t say as much, Leona gets the impression that whatever’s supposed to happen will happen to him since she’s been giving him all these sad looks while she’s been in this weird mood.
(Which means she’s been upset all this time for his sake, and he really doesn’t know how to feel about that.)
Since she told him that she is unable to share this vision with him, Leona doesn’t press the matter, which surprises her. Even though she doesn’t realize that Leona has figured out more than he’s letting on, she for sure thought that he’d demand more details about the vision and try to find a way around her drawback.
Instead, Leona just bluntly tells her to quit moping so much and to instead figure out what she can do rather than dwelling on what she can’t do. If she can’t prevent the event from her vision from happening, then she should come up with a strategy for how to deal with it once it happens; it’s as simple as that.
He also adds that she should make full use of her available resources. Rather than immediately assume she has to do everything on her own, she should see if there are other people she can make use of; the key is to work smarter not harder.
His words have a strong impact on Yuu because she realizes he’s right. Rather than get caught up in the despair of knowing what’s to come, she should focus on doing what she can to save him like how she helped save Riddle.
Thanks to her talk with Leona, Yuu goes back to how she normally is, much to Ruggie’s immense relief.
She proceeds to dedicate a lot of her free time to constructing different strategies for how to combat Leona in his OB form, knowing she can’t afford to be reckless against an opponent as smart as him.
And her efforts pay off later on when she finds herself going up against Leona with Grim, Ruggie, Jack, and the Heartslabyul guys acting as her support.
(It’s also thanks to Leona’s advice that Yuu is able to ask Ruggie for his help. Normally, she’d wait to see if anyone wants to help since she’d automatically assume that no one would want to help her if she asked, but this time she boldly asks for help because she needs it and wants to believe that she won’t be turned away.
Ruggie, of course, agrees since he can’t leave her on her own, and he wants a shot at Leona just as much as her.
Riddle also volunteers Heartslabyul’s services after hearing this conversation, and Jack offers to help as well.
It makes Yuu happier than words can describe.)
What Yuu didn’t account for was how irritated she’d be in this situation since she didn’t foresee Leona just giving up and disregarding all his dorm members’ dreams/feelings so selfishly.
That combined with what he almost did to Ruggie if she hadn’t tackled Ruggie out of the way in time results in Yuu getting genuinely angry for the first time in a long time.
And it doesn’t help that Leona taunts her at one point saying that he only interacted with her out of pity since she was like a dog that got attached to the first person that threw her a bone.
Thankfully, while those words do hurt to hear, they don’t affect Yuu nearly as much as Leona probably expected since she’s used to dealing with insensitive assholes, which she tells him point blank lol
Naturally, Yuu doesn’t let this slide, so she makes sure to be honest about her feelings about Leona and gives it as good as she gets.
Ergo, most of the battle consists of Yuu & Leona pissing each other off cause they keep throwing insults at each other/riling each other up. Meanwhile, Ruggie’s attempts to get Yuu to stop provoking the pissed OP lion go ignored, so he has many mini heart attacks throughout the battle lol 😂
(In regards to the battle formation, Yuu had created many that included all the people she was familiar with that she thought might be involved with the battle, so she was prepared for having the people that ended up on her team.
Ace/Deuce get put in charge of moving the NPC Savanaclaw students away from the battlefield. Meanwhile, Riddle/Jack/Grim/Cater go directly after the Overblot creature since Riddle’s got the power and Jack has the speed, the latter is something Yuu realizes after seeing his UM, which she briefly saw in her vision of Ruggie getting attacked by Leona.
Like in Riddle’s OB battle, Yuu acts as the decoy while Trey and Ruggie act as her support. Trey uses his UM to help mitigate the effects of Leona’s magic while Ruggie uses his UM to move Yuu out of harm’s way any time she gets in a position where she’s unable to escape on her own power.)
(I really love the thought of Trey asking Ruggie at one point what the hell Savanaclaw did to Yuu while they held her captive, and Ruggie is adamant that they are not responsible for Yuu’s current behavior. She was already violent when they got her 😂)
Another way Yuu ends up provoking Leona is by pushing her Quirk to its limits so she can see multiple steps ahead of him rather than just predict his first immediate move with each of his attacks.
It’s more taxing on her brain to foresee multiple steps ahead, but it’s necessary for someone like Leona who does this kind of thing naturally.
(During this time, I like the idea of Yuu cockily declaring that this time she’ll be the one declaring checkmate.)
Thanks to everyone’s surprisingly good teamwork and Yuu being an excellent distraction who kept Leona’s attention on her almost the entire time, the fight isn’t that much longer than Riddle’s OB battle.
As I mentioned before, the fight ends with Riddle’s group shooting off finishing attacks at the OB creature while at the same time Yuu rushes forward, ignoring the pain of Leona’s UM being used on her skin, and punches Leona in the face since she had declared earlier that she was gonna punch him and she had every intention to follow through with that promise.
With that punch, Yuu’s able to vent out the rest of her anger, so she’s a lot calmer when she talks to Leona once he wakes up after having briefly lost consciousness because of the aftereffects of Overblotting.
After releasing a huge sigh of relief upon seeing Leona wake up, one of the first things Yuu tells him is that his advice paid off. Because she spent the time preparing for his OB, she was ready when it happened and as a result was able to stop him and prevent him from being in such a dangerous state for too long.
She thanks him for this, even though she partially doesn’t want to because all of the frustrating things he did earlier.
Yuu then tells him that she prefers the Leona whose strength, brilliant mind, and confidence inspires her and everyone at Savanaclaw over the Leona who gives up and runs away from what he doesn’t want to face because it’s easier. She’d much rather see Leona face everything while wearing that insufferable smug smirk of his since that expression suits him way more than the look of despair he was wearing earlier.
Since she’s not confident that her words will get through to him, Yuu gives her all to show him the best smile she can muster as she tells him that she was really worried about him and is really happy that he’s okay. She would’ve been really sad if he had died, so he better not do something like that again.
Before a surprised Leona can respond, Yuu, who has been silently dealing with the effects of her drawbacks and the blood loss she had sustained thanks to Leona’s UM, finally loses the battle to remain conscious and passes out, much to everyone’s shock.
Because he’s the closest, Leona catches her before she hits the ground and  immediately notices how warm she is. Ruggie, who had been hovering nearby, starts worriedly fussing over her and hisses when he checks her forehead and realizes what a high fever she has.
Immediately, everyone starts scrambling since they need to get Yuu to the infirmary effective immediately. Despite being injured from the battle, Leona refuses to hand Yuu over, claiming he can still get her there faster than any of the Heartslabyul guys can.
In the end, it’s decided that Cater, Trey, and Ace will remain at the scene of the battle to look after the NPC Savanaclaw students and wait for Crowley and whoever else comes with him since he hasn’t arrived at that point.
Taking advantage of their track and field club member status, Riddle orders Deuce & Jack to run ahead to ensure there’s someone in the infirmary and to get help if necessary.
Meanwhile, he and Ruggie along with Grim remain with Leona who takes the role of carrying Yuu to the infirmary.
Because Yuu pushed herself to her limits with using her Quirk, her fever is a lot higher than the one she ended up with after fighting Riddle, and because it’s higher and because she put much more stress on her brain, she’s more prone to seizures, which she ends up dealing with shortly after being brought the infirmary, much to everyone’s great distress.
Thankfully, there aren’t any long-lasting side effects because of the potions Yuu was given, so there’s no brain damage or risk of scarring. However, she does remain unconscious and fever-ridden for the rest of the day, so she completely misses out on the tournament.
(In regards to Grim’s desire to play in the tournament, it’s unable to happen since without Yuu there aren’t enough players for their team since with Ace/Deuce and the ghosts joining him they’d still need one more player.
Plus, I honestly don’t think Grim would want to play without her, especially while knowing she’s in the infirmary with a fever. Because he’s such an awesome boss, he’ll remain with her to look after her cause someone’s gotta look after his henchmen.)
When Yuu finally wakes up, she still has a fever, but it’s low enough that she’s coherent enough to grasp the situation at hand.
Ruggie immediately starts fussing over her, telling her not to move a lot, and asking several questions back-to-back about her condition. Deuce is also fretting while he quickly hands her the sunglasses she got after Riddle’s OB which he got out of her bookbag since he can tell her eyes are still light sensitive.
Ace tells her that they saved her plenty of food and that he kept Grim from eating it all, so she better be grateful to him. Meanwhile, Grim protests and tries to defend his innocence lol
Jack gives her some water since that’s what she needs most after all the sweating she’s been doing because of her fever, which Ruggie is in full agreement with.
Yuu is in somewhat of a daze, but she goes along with the flow since she knows they’re all worried about her. So she obediently drinks the water and eats whatever she’s given while asking them what happened after she passed out.
After hearing everything that happened with the tournament and how Savanclaw had to play despite them being injured so those they attacked could get their chance at revenge, Yuu also learns about what all transpired while she was with Savanaclaw and how Grim and the Heartslabyul guys had been looking for her.
Deuce is the only one honest enough to admit he had been worried while Ace/Grim just complain about her causing them a lot of trouble with her disappearance.
Of course, Yuu can tell that they had all been worried about her, which means a great deal to her, since she never had people like that in her life before she came to NRC.
That’s why she musters up the best smile she can as she thanks the guys for coming to her rescue and tells them that she was really happy to see them when they showed up at the Savanaclaw dorm.
Since this is their first time having a natural Yuu smile directed at them, Ace & Deuce get flustered, Deuce especially, while Grim just smugly puffs up his chest and tells her that she should be grateful to have such a great boss like him.
Around that time, Leona pulls away the curtain around his bed, revealing that he’s been there the whole time.
Yuu is very relieved to see that he’s doing alright since a part of her had still been worried about him despite remembering that he seemed to be okay when he woke up after his OB.
Leona wastes no time in questioning Yuu about what happened to her since the fallout of her battle with him was way worse than her battle with Riddle.
Since she never got around to properly telling the Savanaclaw guys about her Quirk since she was reluctant to show all her cards, Yuu takes his opportunity to finally do that before explaining that she pushed her Quirk to its limits to foresee several steps ahead since she thought that was the only way to outwit a strategist like Leona who does that kind of thing naturally.
(Jack is naturally very surprised since this is his first time hearing that Yuu has a special power and is from another world. He knew she was doing something during the battle and that he didn’t smell any magic on her, but he really had no idea how she was pulling off predicting Leona’s movements.)
(During this time, Yuu also explains her most recently discovered drawback and how she apparently just experiences pain for two days since Ace/Deuce/Grim had been wondering about that.)
She knew there would be risks attached to this decision, but she didn’t want to take any chances of losing by going easy on him since that would just make everyone involved in the battle suffer as a result.
Unsurprisingly, no one is thrilled to hear that Yuu willingly put herself at risk like that, but the one who says as much is Leona who, having already climbed out of his bed at this point, mercilessly starts pulling on her cheeks since he can’t afford to get any rougher with her in her current state.
Leona calls her out for being an idiot and tells her not to be pulling stupid stunts that could lead to her having damn seizures, of all things.
He looks her dead in the eye and tells her not to do it again, but Yuu tells him that she can’t make that promise if she ends up in a life or death battle where her survival depends on her using her Quirk to such an extent. After all, death would be worse than having a seizure, wouldn’t it?
Her cheekiness earns her a whack from his tail and more cheek pulling, but Leona doesn’t try to refute her argument. Instead, he just continues to take his frustrations out on her and calls her a pain in the ass lol
Thankfully, Ruggie and Jack come to her rescue since Jack doesn’t like seeing the weak get bullied, and Ruggie doesn’t want Yuu’s condition to get any worse than it already is. Plus, he doesn’t wanna be Leona’s accomplice in bullying a girl lol
Meanwhile, Ace/Deuce/Grim are stuck between wanting to defend Yuu, enjoying her getting scolded, and not wanting to mess with an irritated Leona haha
After he finally releases her, Leona returns to his bed, fully intending to sleep, but unfortunately for him, he doesn’t get that luxury since that’s when Cheka arrives, having finally found his beloved uncle XD
Like in canon, all the guys get a big kick out of Leona’s suffering. Meanwhile, Yuu is internally squealing over how adorable Cheka is.
Yuu is a big softie when it comes to kids, and that’s doubly the case when they’re as cute as Cheka so she immediately adores him.
While there is some amusement in seeing Leona unable to do anything in the face of his adoring nephew, Yuu is mostly spending the time thinking how cute they both are together and how much she wants to hug Cheka haha
Eventually, Leona is able to distract Cheka by pointing out that Yuu has been patiently waiting to talk to Cheka and reminding the kid that it’s not good manners to keep a lady waiting.
(Leona, of course, just wants Cheka to bother anyone but him and plans to fully take advantage of the fact that Yuu appears totally smitten with his nephew. If she wants the kid, she can have him 😂)
Cheka falls for his uncle’s distraction and quickly goes to introduce himself to Yuu, and the two immediately hit it off since she’s so good with kids. It’s not long before he has climbed into her lap and made himself comfortable while he excitedly tells her all about himself.
The guys are all honestly a little impressed with how quickly Yuu wins Cheka over and how well she’s able to get along with him despite just having met him. Her motherly presence/instincts really aren’t something to sneeze at lol
Meanwhile, Yuu’s on Cloud 9 cause she gets to hug this adorable child to her heart’s content. If this isn’t a happily ever after, she doesn’t know what is haha
Fortunately for Leona, before Cheka can remember that he came here with the purpose of hanging out with his beloved uncle, not to chat with his uncle’s new pretty friend, Cheka’s guards finally find him, so he has to go, much to his and Yuu’s disappointment and Leona’s immense relief.
Leona’s relief doesn’t last for long since Cheka says that he’ll come back as soon as he can so he can play more with Oji-tan and Onee-chan XD
Eventually, Ace/Deuce/Jack take their leave since Riddle told Ace/Deuce that they couldn’t spend the night in the infirmary, and Jack doesn’t feel the need to stick around now that he’s seen Yuu regain consciousness.
Since Leona & Ruggle are injured thanks to the OB battle and exhausted from the tournament, they choose to remain in the infirmary since it really doesn’t matter to them where they sleep. Plus, they wanna keep an eye on Yuu who still has a fever, even if it is just a mild one at this point.
While Ruggie wants her to rest and get some more water/food in her, Yuu stubbornly climbs out of bed so she can walk over to Leona’s bed, much to Ruggie’s exasperation.
The reason for this is because, after spending a moment lost in her thoughts about today’s events, Yuu found herself feeling that she wasn’t completely done with Leona yet, and she didn’t wanna put this off until another day.
So, Yuu just climbs on his bed like it’s her own so she can complain some more since she feels like she took it easy on Leona during the battle, and she climbs onto his bed just in case she feels the urge to punch him again lol
In the end, while it wasn’t her intention, Yuu just takes turns between calling him out for his earlier awful behavior/attitude and complaining about how worried he made her and how she wants all that time she wasted worrying on him back 😂
While she doesn’t cry, there’s a noticeable wobble in Yuu’s voice and sheen in her eyes that convey her true feelings, which is why Leona doesn’t get annoyed by her behavior.
Obviously, he doesn’t like hearing what she has to say about how he acted leading up to his OB, but it’s hard for him to really get mad at her when she’s in such a pitiful state, especially when he can still see the bandages she’s wearing and the sweaty sheen on her red forehead, all ailments that she’s suffering because of him.
So, he just patiently listens to her, whether it’s her complaining about him, expressing her worry, or her trying to convey her respect/admiration for him in an attempt to get her true feelings across.
When he finally speaks up, Leona asks her about the smile she gave him before she passed out, which leads to the conversation I mentioned in a previous post.
In the end, that’s what gets through to Leona the most, but he still acknowledges everything else she says since he knows she’s being honest with him, despite how hard he might find that to believe.
Yuu eventually ends up wearing herself out to the point she just falls asleep on Leona’s bed, which leads to Ruggie complaining about how she’s too relaxed around guys lol
While Ruggie attempts to take her back to her bed, Leona tells him to leave her be since it’s better to have someone close to a fever-ridden patient anyway. This way if there are any changes in her condition they’ll be able to notice faster, and he’ll have a better chance of smelling an oncoming seizure since he now knows what kind of smell to look out for.
Ruggie goes along with the idea since his bed is on the other side of Leona’s anyway, so this means he’ll have less distance to cross to get to her if something does happen with her.
As a result, Book 2 ends with Yuu sleeping peacefully in the infirmary under the protection of two Savanaclaw students who are definitely more protective of her than they were at the beginning of the book haha

“So, what’s the story about?” - TW:OPT main genre/trope
Tumblr media
Hello there!
Welcome to the first entry of this celebration week!
Originally I was going to post this last Saturday or Sunday, however, I had a family problem that kinda drained our emotions, so I pushed it today. I might make another post after this, but we'll see.
For this entry, we're just going to talk about the main trope surrounding TW:OPT and maybe you can learn more about myself in a bit. I've separated this into five parts. Those are:
Magic Academy in a Magical World
Friendship & Family
Angst, Drama & Hurt/Comfort
Earn Your Happy Ending
Romance
If you guys have any questions or want me to elaborate more, feel free to ask. Enjoy reading!
Magic Academy in a Magical World
If I can tell you one silly fact about myself, I'll say this: my favorite Barbie movie is Barbie Princess Charm School.
I always have had a fascination with the magic academy trope or just special academy in general. Do they only learn how to play card games in Duel Academy or also how to design cards? How does the boarding system work with the Sorting Hat? What do the lady royals do once they graduate? Are you saying Fairytopia Elina spend her whole school life just to shoot a ball of blue light? Can we see more of the U.A. High School support class?
These tiny things can make a high school interesting, especially a magic high school that will tie with the world building.
Twisted-Wonderland goes through the same process. While I, like many others, got dragged in because of the twistified Disney villains, soon I was fascinated with the school system: the magic mirror sorting, the happy beans day and wish upon a star event, the fact that Scarabia has a heater controlled by either a magic gem or the fairies, everything about Ramshackle being an abandoned dorm, how many clubs are they, etc.
To this extent, you can ask about the magic system and the world-building: can you do magic with your cellphone, how does one develop their unique magic, how many races are there, how many languages are there, where does ghost come from, what the heck is Grim's species, etc.
So many questions, so few answers. Or I just didn't read enough.
When writing TW:OPT, I was playing it tame because there was already canon. Mostly as a guide on how the timeline will work.
And then I wrote the Ramshackle history and hoo boy I threw canon out of the window. So far, there is no canon lore for Ramshackle Dorm. In the fic, the Ramshackle Dorm is the oldest dorm (along with Pomefiore). However, it was shut down after an incident where someone exploded it.
I guess through time I've become daring.
Worldbuilding like making fan continents that were eventually debunked, headcanons around Queendom of Rose, you know, simple stuff. But then I tried more and more, like the new magic system.
I think that was the point where I just thought "wait, is the rewrite still relevant?" To put it short, I want to rewrite TW:OPT, mostly because I have some pacing issues and some inconsistent plot points. But at the same time I want to give TW:OPT my own flare. However, I feel like, despite claiming I don't have canon divergence, it might be too much. Maybe I'll talk more about the changes between the fic and canon soon.
But the bottom line is, the magical academy is interesting. Night Raven College is interesting. With the various space left, maybe I can just add my own spice. And then I just look in the entire world-building.
  Friendship & Family
I am on the camp who is glad that Twisted-Wonderland isn't an otome game. Yana-sensei says that she wants to explore more about the relationship between the boys and I'm so glad about that.
If there's anything I like best in fiction is the sense of brotherhood and sisterhood. As an older sibling myself, I love my brother dearly. So, seeing siblings or friends taking the stand to protect others will always warm my heart.
That's the greatest appeal in Twisted-Wonderland: the beautiful friendship between friends. The bond between Yuu, Grim, Ace, and Deuce. Riddle and Trey bittersweet childhood. Rook and Vil dynamics. Octavinelle mafia vibes. Everything about Kalim and Jamil.
There are so many relationships in this series, even outside your average daily days of (magical) high school boys. I'm always interested in Riddle and his mother's relationship, Leona and his brother's, and even Lilia and Silver. Familial love is fragile. Your parents can claim that they love you, but sometimes their action doesn't speak.
Just for a sec to talk about myself. I came from a simple family. It's not perfect, but cozy. Then 2020 came in and tested us. Now, we're still going through the healing process and there were times when I just stopped and think "Wow, my family is not as good as I thought it was." Fanfiction is my escapism for that warm family I carve. The same goes for friendship. As someone who was bullied for years throughout elementary and middle school, who now has a problem in communication because she doesn't know where to begin and nobody ever taught her how, I want to read those fics with the power of friendship. Seeing the characters having this growing friendship, something that I never had until I grew older, is beautiful. Seeing them navigate through their relationship, solving problems, even fights. Thus, I wrote Jonah with all these relationships: his blooming romance between Riddle and Azul, the respect he gets from Leona, the brotherhood between the first years, Birddad and Spiderson, etc.
I do want to talk more about I do still want to make that Jonah's relationship essay, but for now, this is what I'm aiming for Jonah. To have him bond with as much as he can, or at least be acquaintances with many of the cast. Because that bond will be put to a test.
  Angst, Drama & Hurt/Comfort
If you know anything about TW:OPT, you know that it has many, many moments of angst. Perhaps it's my love for tragedy, perhaps it's my need to see my favorite character suffer (I mean, come on, we've been at that pace). But one thing for sure is that I'm eagerly waiting for the happy ending at the end of the tunnel.
When I write TW:OPT the first time, I was trying to stick by the canon game story. Putting aside Jonah Argentum and Birddad Agenda for a sec, you can say the first part of the fic is really a straight adaptation. It was only after reaching Savanaclaw Arc that I decided "Okay, I think we need to change the plot." Mostly, it's because in favor of Jonah and his twisted villain. We all know what happens in the Savanaclaw Overblot battle. Leona disintegrated Joanh's arm, leaving him with a prosthetic arm made by Idia. Why Jonah has to lose his arm? I don't know. Why does Treasure Planet Long John Silver have a cyborg's arm? The actual Long John Silver only missing a leg (oh, and you bet Jonah will be losing his). But it was a delight writing that chapter and the overblot battle in the next.
After that, I told myself that I was going back to the original plan in straight adapting the game story.
But then JonAzul happen and hell went loose.
Octavinelle Arc, to this day, is my favorite arc to write. The many ups and downs, the drama, the tension, the broken friendships, it was fun to write and see the reactions after. The arc is a soap opera, a loose tragedy. But, in the end, it does ends, essentially, in a similar way to canon, the villain loses and the hero wins. However, the angst makes it feels different. But, because I'm the writer, I know that the angst won't last forever because there's always going to be a truly happy ending. And Octavinelle Arc's ending happens in the second part of Scarbia Arc. Octavinelle Arc is a tragedy, but their reconciliation chapter in Scarabia Arc promises a happy ending.
Scarabia Arc on the other hand is kinda tricky. Technically speaking, Scarabia Arc does end on a more bittersweet note even with the Oasis party. Kalim and Jamil would never be the same after the betrayal and you can see Kalim changes in Pomefiore Arc. Scarabia Arc, for me, I would rank as number two if I have to rank between all current storylines (only being beaten by Ignihyde, maybe Diasomnia will follow soon). When adapting Scarabia Arc, I knew this will be a bittersweet ending and I know I can't just finish it with just a single arc. This is the thought process behind Kalim Disappearance Arc. Scarabia Arc set the tragedy, but Kalim Disappearance Arc promises a happy ending.
I guess this is what you call hurt/comfort. The hurt can only work if you are promised comfort in the end (unless you are dedicated to making it hurt no comfort). If you want a happy ending, are you willing to go through the tragedy?
  Earn Your Happy Ending
I guess nobody is really questioning why the story in Twisted-Wonderland plays almost like their Disney Movies. It's the nature of adaptation. Twisted-Wonderland is a game where the Disney Villains are anime boys, how can they not make the story based on their movie? Yuu doesn't know why they see the vision of the Great Seven, but we know they are Disney Movies and are just waiting for an in-universe explanation.
When adapting for TW:OPT, I know I have to do something with the Disney vision and tried to think of an in-universe explanation (looking back, I think this was my first instance of diverging from canon). Thus the concept of reincarnation appeared.
You can say this is an adaptation of the time loop theory where time reset when we lost against the overblot monster in the beginning. You are 'cursed' to relive the story you were based on and if you're a villain, you are doomed to lose every time. And in TW:OPT, the worst ending is death and/or overblot.
For this, I did play it straight as seen in the final episode explanation. Riddle is not forgotten like a dream, Jamil is not shackled to his lamp, and Leona and Azul didn't die. But then, what happens? What happens after you cheated your overblot death? What happens after your supposed ending?
It's about redemption, mending the bonds, making your own future, finding courage, and just living. There is hope beyond the tragedy.
  Romance
To end this entry, let's talk about romance. As you know and I've said this a lot, I'm not a big fan of romance. But that doesn't mean I dislike romance. If I have to make an illustration, romance is like whipped cream on an ice cream sundae. It's good when it's just a little squeeze.
Though, I think this is a bit complicated. For one, if I'm allowed to go on a bit ramble, In addition, I've never really understood the concept of simping. I understand that you have your favorite character and you ship them with your oc. I do that too. But am I supposed to feel something more than just "wow, this looks cool"? Sure I want a pretty lady to step on me, but is that simping? Do I have to bark every time I see a sexy picture of my favorite boy? And sometimes this does make me feel left out because I just don't understand the appeal.
Opening up for a bit: until this point, I honestly can't figure out my sexual orientation. Maybe I'm aromantic or demiromantic. Or maybe I just haven't found the perfect guy. For now, I'm putting aside romance.
And I think this does reflect my writing and reading taste. While romance is not my big priority right now, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy romance stories. Now, this is something that I always have been confused about me for a while. I like shipping, I like romance fanfic, then why I don't vibe much with 'x reader'? It made me think "Ironic, isn't it?" I guess the simplest explanation is: "I like it when it's someone else romance's story, but I don't necessarily want it to be my romance story."
So, for example, I don't mind reading Vil/Rook fanfic, but I'll have a problem reading Vil/reader. I feel like most will understand. Sometimes the headcanon doesn't fit our expectations, sometimes the reader doesn't reflect us. But I guess for me, I just... I just don't want romance or relationships that much. So, why read something that's supposed to be a, essentially, romance fic that would indulge you in a fantasy when you don't want it?
I've learned through writing TW:OPT that a fic can be a part of someone's self-indulgence, just like how TW:OPT is for me. I can control how the relationship progress and who will end up with who. So if the headcanon or vibes don't fit my preference for the ship, I won't read it. "Don't like don't read".
When reading fanfiction, you kinda expected romance and shipping. And I like that. I love having my plate full of so many great fanfictions, but I have my own tunnel vision. I mean, we all have our favorite fan fiction tropes, right? So, if you can't take the romance out of the equation, just indulged yourself with your favorite tropes.
And if I have to pick one trope to explain the romance in TW:OPT, it'll be the slow burn!
Look, if watching danmei affected me in some way, it's strengthening my love for slow burn stronger.
I love slow burn so much. It's about the pining, the yearning, the 'I like them but I don't think they deserve me', the forehead kiss, the tiny things when their fingers accidentally touch, and the oh so many subtexts.
I can say four pairings that I push for in TW:OPT is a slow burn: Ace/Deuce, Riddle/Jonah, Azul/Jonah, and Jamil/Kalim. Among the four, if I can pick one pair to be canon in the OPTU, it's Ace/Deuce. I adore friends to lovers and idiots in love, and Ace/Deuce fits the bill. Jamil/Kalim is kinda tricky because while I do ship them, I don't think it's the time they got together. One simple apology probably won't fix nearly sixteen years of power imbalance.
Riddle/Jonah and Azul/Jonah, as I said, will be explained soon. But for now, both relationship is in the similar status of Ace/Deuce high school romance with more ups and downs than the Ace/Deuce sweetheart relationship. However, while Azul/Jonah is canon one-sidedly, Riddle/Jonah has a lot of hints as well.

“decisions were respected” Sorry but didn’t Scott violently throw Isaac against a wall more than once just because Isaac liked his ex girlfriend in canon? That’s the literal opposite of healthy...
Hey, anon!
This is in reference to this post about Scallison for the shipping meme, where I said that one of my favorite things about Scallison is that the show lets them have a healthy breakup, and even date other people while still remaining friends. The scenes you are referring to are a pair of scenes in 3x13 Anchors.
So lets’s take a look.
(under a cut bc it turns out that when you try to be comprehensive, things get v long v quickly 😅)
The Scenes
I’m actually gonna copy/paste the dialogue of both scenes (along with minimal action/inflection notation for context) so that we can really make sure we know what we’re talking about here, so bear with me:
The first of these scenes occurs as Scott and Isaac are getting ready to head to school in the morning. After some initial ‘hey, what’re you doing, are you heading to school’ dialogue—during which both boys seem a bit awkward—we get the following:
ISAAC: [anxiously] Can I ask you a question? SCOTT: Okay... ISAAC: Are you angry with me? SCOTT: No! ISAAC: Are you sure? SCOTT: ...No. ISAAC: [awkwardly] What's that mean? SCOTT: I guess I'm not really sure how I'm feeling... ISAAC: [nodding] Okay. ...Do you hate me? SCOTT: [sighing] No, of course not. ISAAC: Do you want to hit me? SCOTT: [taken aback] No. ISAAC: I think you should hit me. SCOTT: I don't want to hit you. ISAAC: Are you sure? SCOTT: Why would I want to hit you? You didn't do anything, did you? ISAAC: [stammering] No. I mean, um... What do you mean? SCOTT: I mean, like, you didn't kiss her or anything, right? ISAAC: No! Absolutely not. No. SCOTT: ...Did you want to? ISAAC: Oh, yeah. Totally. [scene cuts to hallway outside the room. Isaac flies through the doorway and hits the wall] MELISSA: Hey! You two teenage boys? Don't test my entirely un-supernatural level of patience! ISAAC: ...Feel better?
The scene then ends, and we cut to subsequent scenes of Stiles and then Allison also getting ready for school.
The second scene is much shorter and happens later in the episode, after Isaac saves Lydia from an arrow that Allison fired while hallucinating. He and Scott are in Scott’s room again, and he’s telling him about the incident:
SCOTT: Right at her head? ISAAC: Almost right through it. And she keeps saying the same thing-- that she keeps seeing her aunt. Whatever's happening to you guys is getting worse. If I hadn't been there, then Lydia would be dead. SCOTT: ...What were you doing there? ISAAC: Uh... [scene cuts to hallway outside the room. Isaac flies through the doorway and hits the wall] MELISSA: [groaning] Oh, you guys, come on! This house does not have a supernatural ability to heal! So, stop it!
But of course just the text of the scene isn’t enough to accurately convey everything in even a tiny portion of a larger narrative, because nothing happens in a vacuum. With that in mind, let’s look at...
The Context
The first of these scenes occurs immediately after the opening credits, and is the first time we see either Scott or Isaac this season. (Assuming you consider 3B a separate season, of course, which is a whole ‘nother can of worms. This tv show we all choose to enjoy sure is Something.)
Often, the opening of a season is used to reintroduce the audience to the main characters—letting us know where their characters arcs are starting, and what they’ll be struggling with this season. Teen Wolf did this previously (and did it well, imo) in 3x01 Tattoo. Act 2 of that episode begins with a series of four scenes showing our main characters getting ready for school in the morning, highlighting where everyone currently is, and setting up where their arcs are going to go.
Scene order taken by itself would seem to indicate that they were trying to do something similar in this episode. It starts off with the hook of Stiles’ extended nightmare sequence. He can’t tell dreams apart from reality anymore, and wakes up screaming. Cut to black, cue opening credit sequence.
Immediately after the first ad break, we get a sequence of three scenes. The first is the longer of the two Scott and Isaac scenes (which, as previously mentioned, occurs as they’re getting ready to head out to school). The second is of Stiles. He’s packing for school, and the audience learns that he’s been struggling to read when he’s awake as well. Finally, we see Allison leaving her and her dad’s apartment. She seems like she’s doing fine, if a little over-focused. But then she gets into the elevator, and has an extended hallucination/flashback of Kate.
We learn soon after this that all three of them (Scott, Stiles, and Allison) are suffering from the aftereffects of their sacrifice in the previous season. According to the explanations we get both from Kira and, later, from Deaton, they’re slipping into bardo, or the space between life and death, and there’s a door open in their minds.
Okay, problem established.
It stands to reason, then, that all three of those opening scenes are supposed to serve to set up this problem. We’re shown, in three successive scenes, that all three of our sacrificees are, as the kids say, Not Doing So Hot.
(yes I know the kids don’t say that, let me be an increasingly out-of-touch millennial in peace)
This is all well and good, and honestly makes sense! Under this paradigm, the Scott and Isaac scene should be highlighting that Scott is Losing Control. Bardo is affecting him, and it’s causing him to be more aggressive. Giving in to violence in a way that he generally holds himself back from. Heck, the scene even starts with Scott flexing his fingers, and we (and Scott) see the shadow of a clawed hand against the door.
In the context of the narrative, it makes sense.
Except.
eXCEPT—
The Framing
The thing about the medium of television is that, when we’re talking about a scene, we can’t just look at the narrative structure. We also have to look at the scene itself: how it’s shot and directed, how it’s edited, even what music is paired with the scenes.
In the Stiles and Allison sequences, the scenes are very clearly shot for tension and horror. Long lingering shots on the things that Just Aren’t Right. Music that heightens the tension. Stiles gets some nice lil scare chords over the shot of the book that he can’t read, and there’s a very quiet droning in the background of the Allison nightmare sequence that slowly grows into some classic horror soundtrack music.
Okay. So far that tracks with the narrative thesis.
Now let’s take look at the Scott and Isaac scene.
We start out with some of those lingering shots I was talking about, as Scott is halted in his tracks when he notices the shadow of the clawed hand. We see his own hand is human and unshifted. There’s quiet, percussion heavy music over this portion of the scene that increases in tension at this point. Shaken, Scott closes his hand into a fist, and when he opens it, both the shadow and his own hand are smooth and human. The tense music fades out to silence, and he breathes a sigh of relief.
Scott opens the door to reveal Isaac, which startles him. There’s a short musical sting to underline this moment, and then the background music cuts out completely, leaving us (and them) in the awkwardness of this moment.
And OH BOY. IS IT AWKWARD. 😬
You can kinda see the Awkwardness Inherent in the System in the dialogue that I pasted up at the top—it’s a lot of back-and-forth, short statements, trailing off... And both Posey and Sharman are playing up the awkwardness as well. Neither boy looks like they really want to be there, and that includes Isaac, who initiated this entire conversation.
But here’s the thing.
The thing that really frustrates me about this scene.
It’s not the sort of awkwardness that exists to increase the tension. The sort that builds and builds until it reaches a fever pitch and you know something just has to give. You know, the sort of tension that you would want to build if you were showing how the protagonist of your show is no longer fully in control, and is on a knife’s edge of lashing out at his friend and beta.
Instead, it’s played for comedy.
And once again, a lot of this is down to the music.
Before the dialogue that I quoted at the top even begins, the music starts back up, and this time the tense percussion has been replaced by light, pizzicato strings. (That may not be the exact right term, fyi, I only really know enough about music theory to be dangerous.) But you know, the playful, plucked strings that often accompanies comedic or otherwise not-serious scenes.
Background music tells the viewer how they’re supposed to feel about the events in a particular scene, and the music here is saying that we’re not supposed to find this whole confrontation that dramatic. In fact, we’re supposed to find it funny.
But it’s not just the music that that frames this scene as comedic. It’s also the fact that we don’t actually see Scott shoving Isaac. Instead, the scene cuts to the hallway, and all we see is Isaac flying through the doorway.
Now, obviously I don’t have a direct line to the director and editors’ minds here. But I would bet money that those particular shots were chosen 1). because it’s so much easier to do a wire pull stunt when you don’t have to show what it’s in reaction to, and 2). because it’s kinda difficult to show your main character directly doing a violence and make it funny.
But show someone yeeted into frame, and that’s funny. Right?
(Spoiler alert: not in this context, it isn’t)
Now, I know I’ve been focusing on the first scene a lot—partially because it’s longer and partially because it’s really the only reason that the second scene exists—but I do want to take a look at the second scene really quickly as well. It’s much shorter and generally adopts a more serious tone than the first one, mostly due to fact that we’re smack dab in the middle of the action at this point. The weird visions that the sacrificees have been having all episode have started endangering lives, and they can’t just wait for it to resolve on its own.
But then the focused, intent exposition is broken by Scott’s question of “why were you there.” Then smash cut to a near identical shot of the hallway, and Isaac yeeting into frame.
The thing is, this scene is entirely dependent on the previous one. It only “works”—and I use this term loosely—as a call back to the scene at the beginning of the ep. Heck, both even have the stinger of a frustrated Melissa at the end of both scenes, frustrated at all the boys-will-be-boys roughhousing going on in her house.
Much like the first scene, this one is also set up and framed for Comedy.
Which is um. A Choice.
But What Does It All Mean
What frustrates me about these scenes, at the end of the day, is that the narrative intention and the directing/editing seem to be fundamentally at odds.
On the one hand, it makes narrative sense to say that the purpose of the scenes is to show that Scott is losing control. That he’s being affected by bardo and the open door in his mind, and it’s putting the people close to him in danger. But then on the other, the way the scenes are actually used are as comic relief. As a way to release tension between very tense, dramatic scenes.
I don’t think it works, as I don’t personally find it funny at all. But that really does seem to be the intention.
Once again, absolutely wILD choices were made on the part of tptb, and I really wish anyone had thought for two seconds about the implications of all of this, but nO
Ahem.
So now (literally 2K words later I’m so sorry 😅) what does this tell us about the characters? Certainly no one here is arguing that shoving someone is a good or defensible choice, whether it’s due to forces outside the character’s control or not. But even taking the influence of bardo in mind, is it even in character for Scott in the first place?
Because canon can also be written inconsistently/out of character, especially when we’re talking about a long-running show like tw.
One’s an Incident, Two is Coincidence...
Well, we all know the end of that saying.
So let’s end by looking at a few patterns.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this, once again, eXCEEDINGLY long post, this is reference to a post I made about scallison. I said the following in that post:
And I also really like that they [Scott and Allison] didn’t get back together. That they were allowed to be friends. That even though sometimes it hurt to watch someone you love loved love become romantically close to another person, decisions were respected, and no friendships were broken over it.
The first pattern we need to look at, then, is this:
What’s Scott’s pattern of behavior toward Allison and Isaac’s relationship?
And does Scott’s behavior toward Isaac in these two scenes match the pattern, or is it an outlier?
3x11 Alpha Pact: Sacrifice Prep The revelation that Allison and Isaac have grown close enough for him to act as emotional tether for her is very visibly a blow to Scott. He looks like the rug has been pulled out from under him, but he doesn’t look angry or upset, just.... sad. In fact, it looks like he’s swallowing back tears. But he nods towards the two of them and just says, “It’s okay.”
3x12 Lunar Ellipse: “I look for my friends” This is the epilogue of the season. Scott walks into the hallway at all of his friends in turn. Satisfied. Happy. First at Lydia and Aiden, then at Danny and Ethan. Then he turns and watches as Isaac and Allison walk down the stairs, and they’re laughing, and so obviously happy, and Scott’s small smile grows. He isn’t jealous here—he’s happy for them.
3x14 Illuminated: Mutual Recognition Scott and Allison are both at Danny’s halloween party, but they’re not here together. He sees her from across a crowded room, just like he did at the winter formal, so many months ago. But so much has happened, and they’re different people now. Allison’s with Isaac, and he’s starting to having feelings for Kira, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt, and that he doesn’t miss the relationship he and Allison had. For a moment, his fingers slip away from Kira’s, and he and Allison share a sad smile.
Believe it or not, these are actually the only other examples I could find of Scott reacting to Isaac and Allison’s relationship. And uniformly across them, he’s sad, yes—after all, he loved her, and that relationship is very definitively over now. But he never seems jealous, and he isn’t angry.
So, if the Scott and Isaac scenes in Anchors don’t fit the pattern of Scott’s behavior towards the new couple, what pattern do they fit?
“Hit me.”
The teen wolf writers have a... really upsetting habit, honestly, of “resolving” interpersonal conflict between two characters by having the “wronged” party hit the other. Afterwards, the tension is almost completely broken between them, as if letting the person act aggressively in a way consensual to both parties has somehow solved the problem.
2x11 Battlefield: Derek and Peter After Peter comes back from the dead, he confronts the now pack-less Derek and offers to help him. Derek, likely remembering that Peter killed Laura and was responsible for most of the events of S1, attacks him instead. After taking a beating, Peter says the following:
PETER: Okay, go ahead! Come on, do it! Hit me. Hit me. I can see that it's cathartic for you! You're letting go of all the anger, self-loathing, and hatred that comes with total and complete failure. I may be the one taking the beating, Derek, but you've already been beaten. So, go ahead. Hit me if that will make you feel better. After all, I did say that I wanted to help.
3x13 Anchors: Scott and Isaac We’ve already discussed this scene in uh. Detail. So I don’t think we need to go into the specifics again. But just a reminder that this dialogue exists:
ISAAC: Do you want to hit me? SCOTT: No. ISAAC: I think you should hit me.
5x15 Amplification: Scott and Liam During the previous supermoon, Liam—swayed by grief, the full moon, and Theo’s manipulations—tried to kill Scott and take his power. They’ve since rediscovered an equilibrium in their relationship, and Liam’s back in Scott’s pack, but they’re both still dealing with the implications of that event. In this episode, they’re attempting to break Lydia out of Eichen, but they’re not as strong as they should be, due to the mountain ash laced through the building, and are having difficulty breaking down a door. Then, the following exchange occurs:
LIAM: Hit me. SCOTT: What? LIAM: Hit me! I'll get angry, then I'll get stronger. STILES: Hit him. Hit him! LIAM: I tried to take your powers. I tried to kill you. Hit me! STILES: He also left you for dead. LIAM: I wanted you dead!
6x16 Triggers: Liam and Theo No one actually directly says “hit me” in  this one, due to the circumstances, but the sentiment’s there. In this sequence, Liam and Theo are trying to convince Gerard and the hunters that the whole pack is hiding out in the zoo, so Theo goads Liam into hitting him, in order to stage a very audible fight.
THEO: Okay... Then they have to believe us.[shouts] Isn't that right? LIAM: [whispers] Why are you yelling? THEO: [shouts] You got a problem? Oh, that's right, you always have a problem! LIAM: [whispers] What the hell are you doing? THEO: [shouts] Shut up! [punches Liam] Yeah, you see that, Scott? Your little Beta can't even take a punch. And what do you think, Malia?
While there’s a variety of primary textual reasons here, all of them deal with personal issues between the pair, and all of them involve some level of catharsis for the person doing the punching. Taken all together, it’s honestly a pretty troubling pattern, especially given the inclusion of an actual canonical abuse victim initiating and receiving the violence.
TL;DR
This is a writer issue, not a character issue. The serious narrative context conflicts with the comedic framing in a way that is honestly baffling to me, and it doesn’t fit the established pattern of Scott’s character and actions. Moreover, it’s an example of the writers’ apparent belief that interpersonal conflict can and should be solved through consensual violence.
The pattern we do see, is that the Scott is saddened by the knowledge that Allison has moved on, but he’s glad that she and Isaac are happy. Similarly, Allison is saddened that Scott is moving on as well, because she does still care for him deeply. Despite their conflicted feelings, neither tries to disrupt the other’s new relationship.
On other shows, that would be a season-long, drama-filled plotline. Here, nothing.
And I legitimately love that so much.

** the disclaimer still applies: don’t fucking dogpile, don’t harass using this as a springboard. furthermore, do NOT @ robin about this for fuck’s sake she’s already taken far more than what was warranted and this is not about her **
@daciafelix, out of respect for robin’s request to lay things to rest, I will be speaking to you on a separate post here.
however, I will not be letting your replies on the post in question slide. I’m very angry with you, and I want you to fucking know it. I’ll paste the three replies here.
1:
mirrorofprinces go back under the bridge please. Robin, you should ignore the trolls, they aren’t solitary creature it seems. You apologized and you should move on. I am tired of seeing a good author beaten down by people who don’t seem to understand how nonprofit fictional worlds work, not to mention reality. Dear “Chinese diaspora” , your trauma is real, attacking people is not the way to solve it. This type of attitude is what got Archiveofourown banned in China.
what the actual fuck was this? “Dear ‘Chinese diaspora’“? you have the audacity to tell us not to attack people while mocking us in the same goddamn breath? the lack of self-awareness that takes is stunning. congratulations for lowering the fucking bar once again!
perfunctorily saying that our “trauma is real” means nothing when the rest of your response dismisses us wholesale as “trolls”, insults our cultural identity -- one that we have repeatedly explained is a complex, difficult topic -- asserts that we have no grasp on the politics of fandom, that we’re delusional, and then!! has the fucking sanctimonious presumption to blame us for CCP censorship of AO3 in china. whether or not you intended any of that is irrelevant, because you still fucking said all of it and we still fucking heard it.
you don’t know jack fucking shit about the 227 event and it shows. the lack of respect that you exhibited in this reply is unbelievable. I was fucking there when this went down, I cried for days. I watched my chinese friends having mental breakdowns in private forums, a chinese friend i had met literally two weeks prior on AO3 emailed me in dismay for what had happened -- this is someone who had been working up the courage to send me a message for literal months and we managed to exchange emails just before the firewall went up -- you don’t understand, you can’t understand the sort of devastation that was felt. if you did, you wouldn’t have brought it up like this as a cudgel for sweeping our legitimate pain aside. blaming the victims for the acts of a violent and oppressive government is a fucking shitty look.
2:
Cloudyfromoobsession I have read it [*the chinese diaspora statement], it makes me really disappointed. They treat fan fiction as some deep existential writing, which is not necessarily wrong but they have to acknowledge that not everyone is divining the meaning of life in a mdzs fic or any other fandom. Transformative work as a principle is based in the exploration of alternative visions starting from a canonical point, there is no rule that fan fic needs to appease a certain portion of the fandom or even stay true to canon.
I see that you have shit reading comprehension as well! not to mention a seriously questionable philosophy on the responsibility of transformative work as a whole. once again, you mock our genuine efforts to express something very important to us by saying that not everyone is trying to “divine the meaning of life” from a fic -- we never once said that fandom wasn’t supposed to be lighthearted and fun -- I’m pretty sure we said the opposite in fact! I love that you think that our concerns are a matter of taking things too seriously! you’re basically just telling us hey, it’s not that deep! let it go!
why should i fucking have to let this go when so many people act like you and have in every sphere of my life from the time I was born? why should I continue to bite my tongue, smile and play nice? because it’s not convenient when the model minority kicks up a fuss?
“there is no rule that fan fic needs to appease a certain portion of the fandom or even stay true to canon,” you say, like our race, identity, generational trauma, are just a matter of differing headcanons or taste. this isn’t about fucking appeasement, it’s about human respect and compassion. no, there’s no rule that all fic has to match anyone’s personal taste, but there is a fucking expectation that fic, and any other creative endeavor in this community, has a responsibility to examine its own impact in context. how explicit must the harm be before you put your foot down? if the characters said “ching chong” and chinese diaspora shouted it down, would you still say, “well, it doesn’t have to appease you”? “just look away”? “but I liked it”?
tell me to ignore my own oppression again for your personal comfort, I fucking dare you.
3:
mirror, as the author has asked to put all this to rest I will not engage with you. I’m well aware that Chinese censorship is a more complex issue and larger that a fandom spat, and yes it had nothing to do with chinese diaspora fans, it was the spirit of this type of “poisoning the well” I was invoking.Limited word comments are not good for exhaustive discussion. But being rude and dismissive to someone who apologized(I mean the author) makes you an immature bully. Good day
funny how you think you can act like you’re taking the moral high ground by acting like you’re complying with robin’s wishes to “lay things to rest” when you ignored her requests to stop defending her twice with your asinine bullshit. if you’re going to act like you’ve got the moral high ground, you better make damn fucking sure you actually have it.
I am going to give you. a sliver of the benefit of the doubt and try to believe that you didn’t intentionally try to justify your sinophobia using a turn of phrase with  antisemitic associations (one that was already discussed at length during the previous incident). I know that the history of “poisoning the well” isn’t terribly well-known, so this is just a reminder/to let you know that it’s a loaded phrase and should be used with caution, especially in a discussion that involves antisemitism.
in any case, you’ve already demonstrated an incredible amount of ignorance regarding chinese politics, so I don’t see any reason to believe that you are “well aware” of the complexity that underlies chinese censorship. the fact that you invoked it at all betrays how little sense you have of the history, how close it is, how much very real, terrifying harm has been wrought -- people love to use the CCP as a gotcha! to shut down or derail conversations about sinophobia. it’s an extremely common tactic, whether or not you realized it. do you all not realize that the people who suffer the most from an oppressive government are the people that live under its shadow? why is that so hard to grasp?
i have friends younger than me whose parents were close enough to tiananmen to hear the first shots ring out. the daughter of one of the photographers of tank man that snuck it out of the country is a year older than I am. my mother has been cautioning me for having political views since I was in middle school, citing the red guards of her generation and how they were manipulated and left to die by the CCP. I could tell you about shit that happened in my immediate family that would make your blood curdle. these stories are not unique or rare. keep that in mind the next time you want to whip out the CCP in an argument.
you’ve stated that limited character replies aren’t a good medium for discussion. fine. you’re welcome to pick this up in reblogs if you want. I’ve said my piece. good fucking day.

⭐ honestly there are so many things that I'd likevto ask which is why I want to ask a broaderish question.. How do you approach the characterisation of your "Main cast"? I think you have created some really great complex characters even though they do not exist in canon or even fanon (Germaine in example)
I hope this isn't too broad lol
no, i don't think it's too broad! just let me know if my answer doesn't actually touch on what you were wondering about haha
character creation for me tends to be spontaneous rather than conscious — i.e. i'm just writing my way through a scene and i'm like anyway, these people are new and they're friends or they're dating or they hate each other, and there's rarely a ton of forethought put into it. the vast majority of the ct cast was like that, i would say, except possibly michael, who was the first love interest i invented so there was a little more intention there
(but other than him i was really pulling things out of nowhere for the rest of the students especially — including with emmeline which sometimes surprises me)
the exception is, of course, the main cast. they and sara were very intentional, and i wrote little bio thingies for them before i started even outlining the fic. i mean the non-canon main cast, of course, lol — mary, dorcas (they're both canon but i've invented virtually everything about them, so), and germaine.
i did actually do a lot of hemming and hawing about how many girls there would be in lily's year in gryffindor. as discussed in a previous "my beef with j/k/r" instalment on this blog, the numbers of the hogwarts population really don't make sense at all, so i knew i could be flexible and kind of hand wave any questionable bits away. but the composition of the gryffindor girls was crucial in deciding lily's characterisation, imo — an easy way to convey implied characterisation is to show someone in contrast to the people around them. so: who is lily within the context of her friend group? is she friends with all the girls she rooms with?
separately, i've always liked writing friends in groups of four. in the planning stage of this i was like urghhh it's four girls, the four marauders, is that like too perfect....... and one thing i HATED was that people could then map on each marauder to each girl (lily = james is a bit questionable, though i firmly believe they're much more alike than they seem, but it kind of works.... mary = sirius, dorcas = remus, germaine = peter). and i didn't, and don't, want to make it seem like i've just made vaguely distinct female versions of each marauder!
i've made my peace with that risk, of course, and i think each of the girls is significantly different from "their marauder" (LOL) that it's actually fine — and, better still, if that thought occurs to anyone i hope that their characterisations will go on to provide interesting nuance to the parallels
but, anyway, tangent aside, i love groups of four because i think basically all my life i've had groups-of-four friendships. to absolutely go to bat for us foursomes, it's nice because no single person is the obvious odd one out, and each combination in pairs brings something different to the table — the role that doe plays in the group of four at large, for instance, isn't exactly the same as who she is in her individual friendship with mary, lily, or germaine.
the three main cast members came of some very clinical answers to those initial questions about lily.
one, i have always liked having mary be one of lily's friends, and in my characterisation of her she's obviously a great foil to lily, as a fellow muggle-born student. so, she was a lock.
two, i wanted to write one other canon order character, but i didn't want it to be marlene because in my reading of her canon mention, lily is unlikely to write a letter to sirius with her full name (paraphrasing but "i was so upset when marlene mckinnon died, i cried for ages") or, indeed, write a letter discussing how sad marlene's death made her, if they were besties and schoolmates. i went with dorcas because why the hell not? in developing her i then added all these thoughts
three, i felt the need to make up an oc so i could have absolute freedom over their fate. i had certain preconceived notions about mary and dorcas and what their stories would be, so there were other things (e.g. playing quidditch) that i wanted to have a friend of lily's do that they couldn't. plus, i wanted to write a massive lesbian.
another little sticking point, though, was that i (for a very SHRUG?? reason) didn't want lily to be besties with everyone she's lived with, but i didn't want to insert a catty rival into her dorm either. (now, don't get me wrong, i do love a good rival. i did, after all, write mary and amelia, and i am a known appreciator of carlotta meloni, and i adore TLE's marlene mckinnon. but i wanted the gryffindor girls to be like lily's safe space — a contrast both to her home life and to her recently-strained friendship with snape, where she's spent some time having to second-guess herself a lot. in my mind her friendships with all three of her besties coalesced at various points organically, until she was like wow wait i do actually have a home base here.)
the compromise was someone who was friendly with lily, but there's no strain on that friendship to be more than it is — which, sara and lily respect each other but have also learned they're not so alike that they need to hang out all the time. sara, to lily, is the girl you do things with because you're schoolmates, and then once you're out of school you amicably drift apart and occasionally leave a nice comment on their instagram
so that was how the gryffindors coalesced in my mind as placeholder figures. i will fully confess i start with tropes and then work out ways to deconstruct them or complicate them — as i've talked about in multiple of these questions, i think a lot of my characters are caught between sticking to their perceived label and acting the way they want to, aka the ripest high school drama fodder known to humankind
Wearing a fake smile and watching her sister’s sickening love life had put things in perspective a little. Why should she always do what was expected of her?
(we construct ourselves in contrast to those around us....)
mary started off as boy-crazy, doe started off as idealistic, and germaine started off as struggling to find her place. then i built up from those foundations, adding in tropey bits i enjoyed and wanted to engage with — i wanted doe to be passionately principled, but the gentler counterpart to mary, and even-tempered where lily runs hot. i wanted germaine to be a little bit thoughtless, changeable, someone utterly herself but still uncomfortable in her own skin. knowing, then, that the other two were going to be, how shall i put it, gentler hearts (LOL), i went back to mary and decided she would have this tough-girl, queen-bee persona.
then doe got her family background, which added in her ambitions and hinted at her future, and made it so her foundation would be threatened by events of the story. obviously i was writing mary in the aftermath of the mulciber/avery incident, so i needed to ask how much her take-no-shit vibe was threatened by it — and if not, why? how? unsurprisingly, even to people like amelia...
“At least I’m not overflowing with insecurity,” said Amelia. Mary laughed. The sound echoed through the courtyard. “We both know that’s not true.”
...the persona is put-on, but the "real mary" is so caught up in the invented mary that even she couldn't hope to uncover an authentic self...nor would she necessarily want to, because her affected self is still her...
wait don't get me started
germaine was already a quidditch player, and i wanted her to be a seeker because that's automatic investment in perhaps the single player with the most impact on the game — crucial for what i knew would be many, many quidditch sequences, where james wasn't always the most important pov! some of that seekery vibe leeched into who she is: she's searching, right from the start, for a sense of self that feels just out of reach:
“This year is going to be a year of change,” Germaine said [...] “Henceforth I will be going by... Gemma.” The girls looked at one another for a beat. Then Lily, Doe, and Mary burst into laughter.
she's more anxious and outwardly uncertain than her friends, and i wanted to consciously engage with that — proper teenage awkwardness, the kind that wouldn't really happen to Main Character lily, I Have No Sense of Shame mary, and I Am Overflowing with Good Sense doe. more than the other three, germaine is a normal person in the context of this world — she's not a muggleborn, so the war has a different impact on her; she's not the child of activists; she's not well-off. an absolutely spontaneous invention that i was really quite thrilled by was having her sister be crouch's secretary, because it's such a sudden, shocking realisation for her that she's got such a close connection in the thick of it
Germaine clapped a hand over her mouth. “Big news soon,” she mumbled. “Big news soon, that’s what Abigail said, only she didn’t say what big news…”
so germaine is really just... living her life, an indie coming of age film in which her friends' subplot is a fucking war LOL
i defined germaine in contrast to the other girls a lot when drawing out the characters for myself, mostly for a practical reason — i didn't want her to overlap too strongly with any of them, since she's the only one who's wholly my invention. i think some of that remains in her characterisation, but i decided to make it conscious instead:
Germaine saw herself as a happy medium, flexible enough to stretch sympathetically between her friends. But— What does it mean that I define myself in comparison to them? Nothing. She was only seventeen and she was finding her way.
i knew germaine was going to get the chaotic sporty romance pretty much right off the bat, but, fun fact, i hadn't actually picked out who her love interest would be until after i started spitballing other sixth years' names and had a basic idea of who emmeline was. wild!
i feel like i haven't said all i want to say but let's stop there or i'd go on forever, ha!

Crash Course: Billy and Tommy
For the uninitiated who just found out about these two via WandaVision, here is the sequence of events that leads to a) why the boys have different last names and b) why Tommy has white hair:
Vision and the Scarlet Witch, 1985: Billy and Tommy are born while Wanda and Vision are living a ‘normal’ life in New Jersey. It is later established that Wanda’s pregnancy was, initially, only a psychosomatic ‘hysterical’ pregnancy due to jealousy over her brother’s marriage to Crystal Amaquelin (Inhuman) and birth of their daughter Luna.
It is also later established (in Young Avengers Presents: Wiccan and Speed) that Billy and Tommy were actually created by Wanda, using her reality-warping powers and the power of an eldritch god which had inhabited her body, using fragments of the soul of Mephisto, lord of Hell.
During a battle, Wanda momentarily loses the focus which keeps the souls attached to the twins’ bodies, and they vanish. However, the fragments of soul which created them were purified by her love, and instead of returning to Mephisto, were instead reborn in the bodies of two boys living in separate parts of New England: Billy Kaplan, in the Upper West Side (later Chelsea), New York, and Tommy Shepherd, in Springfield, New Jersey.
Though it has been considered dubiously canon now, early on it was hinted that both boys were adopted at the same time; Billy also mentions having two brothers who are never named and only mentioned once.
Young Avengers v1 issue 1-6, April 2005: After the events of Disassembled. The Avengers are defunct, due to Wanda’s mental breakdown over the loss of her children caused a causality chain-reaction that led to the deaths of several Avengers (including Jack of Hearts and Ant-Man, Scott Lang). A group of boys, led by a time-displaced youthful version of Kang the Conqueror (Nathaniel Richards, a distant descendant of both Tony Stark and Reed Richards) is determined to change his destiny as a supervillain by reforming the Avengers and being a hero called Iron Lad and leading a team consisting of Patriot (Eli Bradley, nephew of Captain America/Josiah X, America: Red, White and Black), Hulkling (Teddy Altman, son of Captain Marvel [Mar-Vell] and Princess Anelle of the Skrull Empire, who is unaware of his heritage at the start and believes himself to be a mutant), and Asgardian (Billy Kaplan, who aside from being a massive Avengers fanboy doesn’t have an immediately recognized connection to the Avengers). Cassie Lang, daughter of the late Ant-Man, demands to join the team, calling herself Stature (she has stolen Pym particles and can grow and shrink at will) and later, after rescuing her family from a hostage situation, Kate Bishop insinuates herself into the team as well and is, at the end, simply called Hawkeye.
House of M, August 2005: The Young Avengers are too new to be ‘involved’ in the event, but the twins (and their creepy ‘brother’ Tyler) are present as small children in Wanda’s delusion. She re-lives their birth, and re-traumatizes herself in their loss. It’s a whole thing. Her daughter with Nightcrawler (TJ) from another reality shows up. (Nocturne is an actual bean please read up on her).
Decimation, January 2006: “No More Mutants.” 198 mutants out of millions are all that remain after Wanda’s proclamation. Fortuitously, two of those who remain are Billy and Tommy (and TJ)
Young Avengers v1 issue 7-12: Teddy is caught in the middle of an intergalactic power struggle: both the Kree and Skrulls want him, as he has significant positions of power with both races, and his mother (who he discovers was really his nursemaid who spirited him away from the Skrull homeworld to protect him) is murdered by the Super-Skrull. In order to rescue him, the Young Avengers use the Vision’s programming (now stored in Iron Lad’s old suit, now named Jonas) to track down another potential linked mutant. They break Tommy out of a mutant-research facility his mother had remanded him to after a run-in with the law. Tommy is unstable and violent, but it’s immediately clear he and Billy are twins and there is More To The Story. Billy drops the Asgardian name, starts calling himself Wiccan, and accidentally outs himself as gay (and dating Teddy) to his parents.
Young Avengers Special: Wiccan and Speed: Billy and Tommy go back to Vision and Wanda’s home in New Jersey to look for clues to their past. The Mephisto connection is established and it is confirmed that they are, in fact, Wanda’s children.
Civil War, 2006: After the New Warriors cause Nitro to detonate in front of an elementary school, killing hundreds of innocents in the process (known as the Stamford Incident), the government pushes through the Mutant Registration Act, forcing all superpowered individuals to either register with the federal government or else be deemed a risk and placed under arrest. This divides the Young Avengers -- Cassie, Kate and Jonas believe it is for the greater good, since they could still work as superheroes, just with government oversight, but Billy, Tommy, Teddy and Eli join the faction led by Captain America, which deems it unconstitutional and just plain wrong. They have a run-in with the Runaways, where they are captured by a mad scientist using Noh-Varr (Marvel Boy) as a mind-controlled soldier. Wiccan’s ears are covered with sound-dampening devices to prevent him using his powers, and he is forced to watch as the scientist attempts to study Teddy via surgical means. (it’s a little gruesome, fair warning) Later, during a night patrol these four are caught, and though they are quickly rescued, after Wiccan and Cloak transport them to another location, it turns out to be a trap, and Billy is captured and imprisoned in an extra-dimensional prison called 42.
It is speculated that he was imprisoned for anywhere from one to six months. It is also speculated that during this time, due to the verbal component of his powers (he must speak his will into being, at this point) that he was either comatose or muzzled during this time.
After being freed, Billy spends several months in shock, sitting at a window in a near-catatonic state, unable to react as his friends and family try to bring him out of it. Eventually, Teddy approaches him, and lays down an ultimatum. He proposes marriage, on the condition that Billy gets out of that window. In the issue’s last panel, they share their first on-panel kiss.
Tiny queers all over the world rejoiced.
The Children’s Crusade, 2010: The Young Avengers work on the sidelines for a while, until Wiccan accidentally overloads his powers during a fight with the terrorist group Sons of the Serpent. The Avengers want to put him on lockdown until he can control his powers, but he knows that if he can find Wanda, she can teach him all he needs to know. After busting him out of his ‘suite’ at the Tower, the rest of the Young Avengers accompany him to Wanda’s last known location -- Latveria, specifically its capital Doomstadt, ruled by Dr. Doom. There, they meet Magneto, and learn that Wanda has no memory of her past, and is a guest of Dr. Doom in his palace -- in fact, she is his fiance, and they are due to be married! Billy can’t let this rest -- he knows there’s more to it, and sneaks out of the inn they are staying at, leaving an apology note for Teddy and striking out on his own to break her free. It is revealed that Doom was taking advantage of Wanda’s amnesia in order to get access to the Cthonic power she still possessed, but after taking it for himself, Wanda’s memories return, and with the help of Billy, the rest of the Young Avengers (and absolutely no help from the Avengers or X-Men, who both show up to try and fight it out). In the end, Wanda embraces her two sons, promising to be a greater presence in their lives.
Sometime during this time, both Tommy and Teddy have begun permanently residing with the Kaplan household in Chelsea, NY.
Young Avengers, vol2, 2013: In an attempt to bring Teddy some happiness, Billy browses all possible realities to find a version of his mother who had not been murdered by the Super-Skrull. He appears to find one, but she turns out to be an extradimensional parasite called Mother, who can influence adults (here meaning anyone over the age of 21). Loki (still in his 10-year-old form due to having died and been reborn it’s a long story) appears, claiming he can help them vanquish Mother if they trust him, but America Chavez also arrives to try to discourage them. Kate and Noh-Varr have some sort of friends-with-benefits thing going and arrive with a spaceship. Tommy works at a tech-assembly company as a temp, where David Alleyne (formerly Prodigy, who lost his powers on M-day) also works. I admit my memory of this series is spotty since I wasn’t a huge fan, but it establishes that Billy is an entity known as the Demiurge, who created the reality America Chavez was born from and may, possibly, be the most powerful entity in the Marvel universe.
New Avengers vol4, 2016: Post-Secret Wars, in which a Cosmic Cube broke the Marvel multiverse and Dr. Doom attempted to put it back together again, with varying degrees of success.  Bobby Da Costa (Sunspot, formerly of the New Mutants) has inherited the vast wealth and criminal empire of the organization formerly called Advanced Idea Mechanics -- A.I.M. Now calling it Avengers Idea Mechanics, he gathers a team to protect the Earth from extradimensional foes who are, apparently, spawned from a hyperfuturistic alternate version of Reed Richards. Chimeras with floating crystals for heads are nullifying magic all over the globe, but Wiccan and Songbird figure out how to use her scream to shatter them. Then, a Cthulhu-like entity called Moridun infects Billy, and a future version of the Avengers arrive in the past to kill him, including a beardly, barbarian-looking version of Hulkling. Eventually, Billy figures out that Moridun feeds on negative emotions -- and well, I’ll let Billy’s words speak for him:
“”I know what poisoned thoughts are like, Moridun. I always have. I get anxiety. I don’t think I’m good enough. I don’t like myself, even though I know -- rationally -- I know -- doesn’t matter. I have bad days, bad thoughts. And sometimes... sometimes, yeah, they’re hard to fight. But I don’t let them win every day. And I’m damn sure not going to let you win today. You’re just a cheap little bully who likes breaking toys, Moridun --
and you shouldn’t have let me see you! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!”
I freaking love this comic okay you get to see future Teddy go back home to his husband who’s standing at the sink washing dishes and talking about their daughter Katie and I cried when I first read it.
Bobby also gifts the boys a SUPER SWANKY PENTHOUSE RIGHT OFF CENTRAL PARK.
At this point, there is also a Scarlet Witch solo series, which I highly recommend reading. She is shown owning her mental illness, cutting Pietro out of her life in order to maintain it, and coming to grips with the loss of Vision and reconnecting with her sons.
There is also the Death of Magic run, which establishes a lot of lore about Billy as the Demiurge. Unfortunately, during a lot of this era Tommy is nowhere to be seen.
However, at the start of the latest event, Empyre, we find out why: He’s moved out of the Kaplans’ and in with David, who he has been dating since the events of YAv2. He seems genuinely happy, which makes me happy.
Now: Billy and Teddy have finally gotten married. Billy is still working toward becoming the best damn sorcerer and potential pseudodeity he can be, Teddy has put down his destiny as the Great Unifier, and everybody’s just happy.
I don’t care what Marvel does in the comics anymore my sons are happy.
I’m sure I missed some details but this got WAY LONGER THAN I INTENDED IT TO.
OH YEAH THERE’S A WHOLE COMIC WHERE VISION TRIES TO ‘RECREATE’ THE FEELING OF BEING PART OF A FAMILY AND INSTEAD OF CONSULTING WITH HIS ACTUAL LIVING SONS HE BORROWS WANDA’S MENTAL ENGRAMS AND MAKES HIMSELF A CUTE LITTLE WIFE AND TWO CUTE LITTLE KIDS AND IT ALL GOES TITS-UP IN A HURRY GDI VISION
I don’t like 616 Vision he’s kind of a selfish prick
Viv Vision is a Gift though she doesn’t deserve half of what’s happened to her

First of all: I'm currently listening to the songs you added to the descriptions of Steven and Bucky and I LOVE 'em!
I would ask for Doc Roe/Legolas/Dr. McCoy, whoever you most feel like describing!
(I hope you and your stitched up hand are doing well!)
send me a character and i’ll list: ACCEPTING !
DOC EUGENE ROE <3
favourite thing about them : doc roe is another top tier favourite character of mine so i everything about him is my favourite <3 but i won't cheat & just say everything agdjfkglg so to give a specific thing , i love how roe will do everything he can to help the wounded. from running out amidst a firefight / bombings to get to them & get them out to telling off superior officers to sacrificing pieces of himself to ensure he can do his job the best he can. his dedication to that is on par to lipton & winters i feel. he was right there during the absolute worst bits of some of these men's lives , working not only to patch up their bodies but to keep them calm , talking to them & using their nicknames whenever they're wounded so those hurt know they’re in good hands & with a friend , whether they make it to aid station or not. i admire roe for that , in giving his all for the wounded & not letting anything get in his way for advocating for a patient or ensuring his patients know he's treating a man with personality & life back home rather than another number of men on sick call / list of the wounded.
least favourite thing about them : what is not to like about this man ??? agdjfkglg but seriously , the only thing i can think of would be his decision to draw away from everyone during the time in bastogne & become isolated , but honestly i can't blame him for using that coping mechanism with everything that was going on then. but he may have had an easier time of it if he didn't resist heffron’s attempts at friendships & perhaps opened up somewhat to spina , even if spina is a lower rank than him , but roe is the sort to help others before himself & continue to do so until he's used up. he's rather self sacrificing like that & that's not healthy. but again it was 1940’s so they didn't have much concept of mental health help or understanding in ways that we do today & even still today it's stigmatised so i can too see why he wouldn't be openly talking , just wish he perhaps think he had to separate himself from everyone , to create distance & choose his job as a medic over creating those tight-knit friendships as everyone else did.
favourite line : “You are officers, you are grownups. You ought to know!”
brOTP : roe & spina , roe & heffron , roe & luz , roe & malarkey
OTP : roe / heffron
nOTP : roe / winters , only because winters needs nixon & vice versa
random headcanon : back during training , a group from easy company were swapping scary stories they’d been told from where their from or ones their parents shared with them , there's all sorts being told & some overlays , but somehow they convince doc to tell one , so he tells the one of the rougarou & with his low way of speaking & lilting tone he manages to be a good story teller , he’s most likely imitating how his grandparents on his mother’s side told him it. he’s one of the only guys out of three ( luz & malarkey are the other ) to actually get everyone a bit spooked. not scared but it's definitely difficult to not think of it when a few days later they have an exercise that has them out in the swamps of north carolina
unpopular opinion : erm i’m not certain that i have any unpopular opinions on roe , hmm i don't think that i do , but if i think of one i'll come back to fil this out
song i associate with them : oats in the water by ben howard or the humbling river by puscifer
favourite picture of them :
Tumblr media
send me a character and i’ll list:
LEGOLAS <3 ( books / films )
favourite thing about them : another top tier favourite character of mine , i think you managed to pick every single ultimate favourite character in these fandoms xD that's very cool ! but back to the favourite , hmm i admire legolas’ ability to still find joy & happiness in the world even though his home has been besieged by darkness’ taint , & losses he's faced as well as the fight he's had to keep along with the rest of elves there. even during trials of the quest he was usually light & could find something to smile about. he has a lightness to him. yet he doesn't allow him to not see the reality of the situation or the quests’ weight , he is very grounded whilst being able to see the brightness that still lives in arda. he can sing , laugh , smile , & find humour even in dark times without seeming like he's clueless or ignorant or careless.
least favourite thing about them : i really don't like his characterisation in the hobbit films , but that's more due to writing than the actual character. i guess i would say least favourite hmm his prejudice against the dwarves , like i don't the elves have their sides & reasons just as the dwarves have theirs , but he really should go find it out for himself instead of just believing a long steeped prejudice & dislike. ( this is excluding the events of the hobbit films )
favourite line : “I go to find the sun!” or “How about side by side with a friend?”
brOTP : legolas & aragorn , legolas & gimli , legolas & elladan & elrohir , legolas & tauriel , legolas & faramir
OTP : legolas / gimli , although i see legolas as more asexual than anything
nOTP : legolas / éowyn , i love éowyn with faramir too much to ship this , so it's not that i hate it , just it isn't a favourite
random headcanon : legolas knows how to use a leaf as a musical instrument , by pressing it between their fingers & then bringing it to their lips to esstentially whistle against it , as do several in his patrol , during moments of downtime they try to play tunes on it & judge each other on how well it sounds or just laugh at the attempts or guess which song is being playing ( or trying to be played )
unpopular opinion : i think my unpopular opinion is in the fact i see legolas as aromantic asexual , tolkien never says that legolas gets married or has someone waiting for him back home , nor do i see he & gimli as anything more than friends. do i like the gigolas ship ? yes ! is it my canon when writing those two ? no.
song i associate with them : i love to see the wheels in motion by barry phillips or fear no darkness by adrian von ziegler or flight of the silverbird by two steps from hell
favourite picture of them :
Tumblr media
send me a character and i’ll list:
LEONARD MCCOY <3 ( tos / aos )
favourite thing about them : his dedication to his patients & profession , he will tell off the highest of admirals if it’d help his patient & he'd risk his own life / safety ensure a patient was helped like when he tended to mirror!spock’s injuries or when he stepped in to alter the course of the kal-if-fee to save both spock & kirk , no doubt he got into some legal issue with vulcan on that one. too i admire his ability to remain calm , cool , & collected under any circumstance. like when khan threatened him with a knife to treating the horta to learning he had xenopolycythemia to tending crew members he's come to know as friends & even family.
least favourite thing about them : i don't really like some of his xenophobic comments to spock , especially in tos , i know it transforms more into a banter / teasing thing between him & spock later in their friendship , but it doesn't fit his character to be the sort to try to change someone's ways to prove a point or think humans are better because we express our emotions. i know he's a gruff doctor who speaks his mind , but it just let very off with his character to have him say those things with actual meaning & intent
favourite line : “When the personality of a human is involved, exact predictions are hazardous."
brOTP : mccoy & kirk , mccoy & spock , mccoy & scott , mccoy & uhura
OTP : mccoy / kirk
nOTP : mccoy / chapel , nothing against it , it just isn't my favourite pairing , i much prefer chapel with rand more than anything
random headcanon : his fear of transporters actually comes from an accident he & some of his childhood friends had with a transporter , it all turned out fine in the end but it always left mccoy feeling a bit weird round them , then in school he learnt about all the transporter incidents / injuries that had happened & it just increased his dislike , not to mention when he got to medical school in seeing some of those sort of injuries first hand , & just being on the enterprise with all her transporter incidents it just keep piling onto it , although it means he's picked up some very good ways of coping with it , some good some not. i think that's why he's especially cranky when it comes to transports because he's nervous to hell & back so instead of being anxious , he just gets angry.
unpopular opinion : hmm again i'm sure if i have an unpopular opinion for mccoy … i can't think of any
song i associate with them : far too good by john smith , feels like home by sam tinnesz
favourite picture of them :

what i know about mha
from only looking at fanon content
this is thru the USJ incident bc im tired and i’ll make another post
okay so basic summary of the main plot:
midoriya is a quirkless boi until Sludge Villain blah blah blah 10-month-long-training for One for All which breaks his  b o n e s
i did see that episode and only that episode
so first day of school it opens on baku-hoe with his feet up and iida being like ‘hows about stop the FUCKING  D I S R E S P E C T’
and iida thinks midoriya knew about the rescue points, which he didnt but whatever
bakugo cursing a lot is probably not actually canon??? probably????
that said he probably does give ridiculous nicknames
so Quirk Assessment is a logical ruse by aizawa
love aizawa btw
he says the kid in last place gets expelled but not actually
midoriya breaks his finger to make a point
battle assessment with baku-hoe and midoriya
midoriya has fucking bunny ears on his costume?? bro??
something something the gauntlets go off even tho all-might said  n o

midoriya gets elected class prebident
he’s like ‘no??? dont do that???’
then reporters get in but it’s Actually a cover for the LoV to get in and steal the schedules for an attack on the USJ but shhhhh
iida is calm and directs classmates to safety and midoriya’s like ‘now That’s What I Call a Class Prebident’
so iida is class prebident and yaomomo (i cant spell her name i tried and now im sob) is vice presidente
then USJ which is the  t h i r d  d a y  o f  s c h o o l ?
b r o ?
our plot is moving  h e l l a  f a s t
so all-might was supposed to be there and he wasnt because he ran out of time
also midoriya has a crisis on the bus because he has friends???
so it’s just aizawa and thirteen
who the fuck is thirteen btw like they exist for one (1) event and just
never mentioned again
i think that they might have died in this attack but nobody cared to tell me
like they’re not a homeroom teacher or a first-year teacher of any kind??? whomst????????????
so the LoV warps in and everybody’s separated
our boi midoriya is sent to the Shipwreck zone with tsuyu and mineta
(fuck mineta all my homies hate mineta)
mineta gropes tsuyu like what the fuck
so minor villains r there blah blah blah
something something AIZAWA GETS FUCKING  W R E C K E D
LIKE ONSCREEN WHAT THE FUCK
MIDORIYA CANONICALLY  S E E S  I T  WHICH MEANS  W E   SEE IT
LIKE HE GETS POUNDED INTO THE GROUND BY A FUCKING QUIRK FRANKENSTEIN
dang heart been broke so many times
all-might arrives tho it’s fine it’s fine everything’s  f i n e
he turns into small-might after defeating the LoV and the nomu but  e v e r y t h i n g  i s  f i n e
aizawa’s quirk is damaged because HIS SKULL WAS TURNED INTO FUCKING SPATTER JESUS CHRIST
he do be a mummy rn
so that’s all on the main events for this post rn (like i said im tired) but here’s some misc (there might be spoilers?????):
i know that it’s not technically canon but like erasermic’s totally canon right
like not according to “the manga” or “the anime” but it is in my heart
shiggy’s a weirdo who just. has midoriya’s picture and carries it around to show to serial killers like wtf dude
AfO is midoriya hisashi No I Do Not Accept Criticism
todoroki is my conspiracy man like bro you go with your secret lovechild theories
(ngl he’s actually smart like this is the most logical conclusion bc who’s gonna say ‘all-might gave you a legendary quirk passed on through generations and that’s why the quirks are identical and why y’all r so close’ like no you’d think that all-might had a secret kid and that’s why they have a close relationship and have the same quirk)
i also love dabihawks like hell yeah
we have an Actual Canon Trans Character??? Holy Shit??????
do you know how annoying it is to see literally the same fucking name a bunch of times but one (1) letter changes in a handful of them and u gotta be like sherlock fucking holmes like “is this a new character or a typo??? nobody fucking knows!!!”
lookin at you, shota/shoto
and you, hisashi/hizashi
and you, kirishima/kaminari
ok the last one wasnt as bad but i wanted to complain bc i got them mixed up SO MUCH at first like GOD
i only remember kaminari because calamari :(
bakugo and kirishima are like,,, a Thing, right? like canon? canon-ish? canon in our hearts?
they literally have someone named tetsutetsu tetsutetsu like i fucking give up

Ah yes that infamous Au based explicitly on Without a Clue + a bunch of headcanons that don't match my vision of canon but I still like them. Today I wanted to collect my thoughts so uh ...
I. First Case- (The Gloria Scott.)
"Of all ghosts, the ghosts of our old loves are the worst."
...
So Sherlock Holmes has a lawyer father and a mother with a lot of love for the artistic things, so since childhood there is a bit of that conflict, because at that time the artistic-bohemian world slowly separated from normal-logic-exact life and he was always in the middle, going from one place to another. Nothing very sad, just a little isolated but with many pleasant memories of a childhood in the countryside and of some holidays in France with his grandmother and his cousin, who tried to be a painter for several years, the two got along very well and they wrote letters to each other.
Yes, yes, we get to that uncertain period of his youth, with disorganized studies, being a bad student - not because he is a fool, God if Holmes is a genius! but the limitations of being in a classroom, also surely he spent several years with private tutors who had to adapt to him, instead of the other way around, so it was complicated-, he has two friends Reginald Musgrave who is with him in a small theater club and Victor Trevor, whom he knows from that incident with the dog, everything is the same from here except that it happens slower, Hudson does not appear so fast to ruin everything, so there is more time for Holmes to fall totally in love with his new friend, he knows Victor's father and for some reason he is friendly with him, he tells him that his little hobby of observation could be a career, a real profession! and he could help people. Holmes could do justice.
In addition, having spent some time without adults who believed in him - because he did not have a great school performance - Holmes is comforted to hear the encouragement of Trevor's father, there are several visits, a deeper bond, time goes on, until that happens, the event that upsets everything, Victor asks for his help and only comes to help to unearth the truth, a horrible one that changes everything, Trevor never has his bright and cheerful smile again, a more shy one is the one he dedicates sometimes but his mired in melancholy, then one day he disappears, it takes to Holmes a long time to receive a letter, an apology but the damage is done, now Holmes does not want to know more about dark family secrets and does not believe that he can deal with the pressure of discovering the mystery sometimes it can cause more damage.
So give up that ridiculous dream.
One morning a letter arrives, one that he receives satisfied, is from his cousin and Holmes does not mind abandoning his disjointed studies in chemistry and other things to accept going to the small exhibition of paintings in an artistic neighborhood in France, then Sherlock decides to stay longer, it fits so good with bohemian men, he feels alive, he mentions something insecure on one occasion that he has participated in school plays, weird and eccentric guys ask him to interpret something, he does it, they clap, they say that he has talent, he wants to believe them but the voices of those who did it one time were now muffled, but they insist and after wandering for months he thinks about it carefully, What harm is there in a play? It is harmless.
So he practice, he spend hours studying people, he uses his little hobby of observation to have a dazzling performance, he perfects various skills, to be good, he dedicates himself with care and great dedication, it makes him feel full, it is a controlled way of unraveling the mystery of humanity, the deaths are false and the pain too, it is the ideal place and where he should be ... or not?
