you know what really gets my goat... all the people on that sub got to experience at least 4.5 decades of life. they got to explore and travel, they went to college, they found love, built families, established careers and got their name out there, they got to make some sort of mark in the world....all of them except for the kid. this dude was only 4 years (maybe 3) younger than me. he was barely a legal adult, still a teenager. prob didn’t even know much life outside of school, prob was only now starting or hadn’t been to college yet, hadn’t had a chance to experience life as an adult yet.... and he wasn’t even really supposed to be on that sub. 

he *didn’t* want to go. he was TERRIFIED. he was the only person on that stupid tuna can death trap with any semblance of common sense. dude basically got dragged there by his rich ass dad  (literally the richest family in pakistan for crying out loud) bc yall know how it is with rich ppl (SPECIALLY the billionaires) : business over everything, live to work but don’t work to live, family is secondary, etc etc...dude probably didnt get to spend much time with his dad bc he most likely wasnt around most of the time and was all work work work but knew he (the dad) wanted to go, prob wanted him to go as well and tried persuading him to join. and even though something didn’t feel right to him, it was father’s day weekend and he must have felt like he owed it to his dad to go and took the risk bc he trusted his dad/wanted to make him happy even though his gut feeling said not to and he really didn’t want to do it. ik he ‘was an adult’ technically, but he was literally only 19 and parental approval gets people to do stupid shit they probably wouldnt otherwise do against their better judgement...  

they literally confirmed (his aunt) he only went to bond with his dad...and instead his dad basically dragged him to both their deaths....this is so fucked. irresponsible and selfish. everyone else knew damn well at their big ages that was stupid and it was only a matter of time before something seriously tragic happened. and this guy knew better than to drag his kid into this knowing he probably would do it just bc it was his dad and a grown ass adult that could probably be trusted bc he’s ‘wiser and more experienced in life and knows better than a 19 y.o’ ...and now they’re all dead. literally fuck off for this

have been reading fic & thinking abt my relationship to fic, which is of course also among other things a mirror of my relationship to my own psyche, and like—i think all the discourse abt its being ~internalized misogyny~ to mostly/entirely read m/m is not ultimately, whatever the truth of it, all that helpful, either to readers or to Women! but of course that doesn't stop me from feeling weird guilt abt the fact that i don't read more f/f than i do, because if there's anything i love to do, it's feel unhelpfully bad abt myself on the slimmest of pretexts…

however! i did end up reading some f/f earlier, specifically transfem f/f, and it got me thinking—basically what i'm usually mostly reading fic for is the romance/sex, right? like, don't get me wrong, i love when a fic gives me a gorgeous double helix of, like, casefic and romance twisted together, that's ideal, but fundamentally most of the time the feeling up is what i sat down at the table to eat. so in a complex aegosexual way it's a fantasy i'm—not projecting onto, exactly, i don't want to be one of the people in it; but, like, lurking in the wings of with eyes big love-crumbs, to steal a phrase from a relevantly-named poet. :) and so it's no wonder that mostly i don't want to read cisfemme4cisfemme stuff, because that's not a dynamic that feels like it has any room for me, or even like i'm particularly welcome in the room. but like. if it's trans women? i'm there, i love that for them and for me. if there's a butch? i might get tripped up by our differing lenses on gender feelings and stub my toe a little but even so i'm probably here for it. (thinking here abt that one butch/femme geraskier ~cisswap which is, like, a gorgeous bruise i keep periodically pressing. <3)

Oh look I can finally participate in this!!

So this is my OC Henry. He's from a (failing) rich family and has a passion for Pokemon history and mythology, a self proclaimed "Pokemon Mythologist" if you will. He has some self discovering adventures in Alola and then goes on to travel the world to gather as much stories as possible.

He also ends up running into and befriending an immortal Volo. Volo is confused as to why this fox boy decided that he is friend shaped.

I appreciate the detail of Pterano and Rinkus' contrasting approaches to Sierra‘s temper. It is primarily interesting to me because he reacts differently to both.

Pterano told him to settle down twice. In one instance, Sierra became impatient and wanted to find the stone right away. Another time was when he was about to strike Ducky. Both attempts fail to bring his temper down. It only adds fuel to the fire.

As someone with a slight temper myself, I can relate. Telling an angry person to calm down won't work. It makes them defensive and will only worsen their anger.

Which is exactly what is happening between Sierra and Pterano.

Sierra becomes defensive over it:

“Self control my tail bone! I’ve been putting up with that whiny little voice since we took off! It’s driving me nuts!“

While raging more than before, to a point where Pterano and him almost fight. It was a defensive reaction, his way of saying that he showed self control the whole time but now it's gotten to a point of exploding.

In contrast, Rinkus knows exactly how to handle Sierra's more impulsive nature to lash out, and it's worked more than once. That is what I find so interesting about their relationship, especially since Sierra also treats him a tad differently from anybody else. It really gives the impression that they have been around each other for quite a while.

Rinku's suggestion to leave Ducky behind is not out of any malicious intend. It’s because he knows Ducky is the problem for Sierra and right now, she only adds tension to the group. Can't have the two of them fighting when they still need to find the stone, after all.

His suggestion works - Sierra doesn’t attack his leader. In fact, compared to his rage before he becomes quiet and stares down at the little swimmer, contemplating that option.

It’s not just once. Rinkus has his ways to cool down Sierra.

They all want the same thing - to gain the power of the stone that they still must find. Sierra apologizes and admits that he got a little out of line.

The only reason he went after Pterano again was because he riled him up with that one verse. It’s one thing to be absorbed in yourself and sing about it - another to drag your companions down.

“Let him lead us to the stone.“

That’s where it clicks for Sierra and he is entirely willing to play along, his temper cooling down and he is remotely calm during the rest of the song.

#rinkus deserves more credit for putting up with both pterano and sierra #the guy was becoming frustrated himself #you can tell he becomes annoyed with pterano #but he remains patient enough #he had to play referee with pterano and sierra the entire day man #'when i'm finished with him he won't even squeak' #Rinkus looks so done #the thing is he didn't even have to do that #he could have easily thrown sierra under the bus #let him face the consequences of his actions #since yknow pterano is leader for a reason and it takes for both of them to get him and that is only with the element of surprise #which yeah i guess that's why he didn't throw sierra under the bus #but like i said up until the end #it was always “we / us” #anyway rinkus has more patience than sierra or i could ever have in that situation #;fiery temper (sierra) #;partners in crime (sierra & rinkus)
