I don’t know why it came to mind, but back when Rogue One came out, there was this review about how Jyn and Cassian in particular were so muted (either because of acting, directing, or both) that it was difficult to really feel like they were angry at Eadu or that indeed they felt much of anything at any point, and so it was hard to attach to them. The speculation, iirc, was that this was actually deliberately done in order to keep audiences from getting too upset by what happens and makes the overall spectacle more enjoyable with just a touch of pathos.
I know different people experience art differently, but ... damn, I was “????????????” then and I am now, because every time I see or am reminded of their scenes (but esp the Eadu confrontation!), I’m impressed by how they manage to convey so much emotion without it seeming overwrought or OOC for two fairly reserved people.

If you still think this is isreal defending itself, you're ignoring the signs. This is a genocide. These are war crimes. More than 25,000 civilians have been murdered. This is not okay.

It's easy to jump to the conclusion that the NCR and New Vegas got destroyed in the series purely out of spite, because Bethesda is coping and seething that people like FNV more than any of their Fallouts. I'm also leaning towards that interpretation myself, although I'm not ready to attribute that specific intention to Bethesda just yet.
A much more charitable, but also more likely interpretation is this: Bethesda has a very superficial understanding of Fallout, and they're incapable of going in any new and interesting direction with it. And that's why they destroyed the NCR and New Vegas, because they represented humanity rebuilding and looking towards the future (albeit still with heavy doses of old world nostalgia, but FNV has already said plenty on the topic). Their continued existence in canon forces Bethesda to think about the future of the setting, when all they want to do is sit in their postapocalyptic sandbox that hasn't been cleaned up in 200 years and wank about the BOS, Vault-Tec, and 1950s American aesthetics. So they had to go.
Well, whichever one it is, it's clear that Bethesda has absolutely zero respect for the work of Obsidian/Black Isle. Or the Fallout setting in general, for that matter.

Page 4. ---- Man Charged With Stealing Relief Vouchers Now Denies His Guilt ---- TWO FURTHER ARRESTS ---- Young Men Plead Guilty to Charges Preferred Against Them - Counterfeit Investigation Continues ---- "While, the police continued investigations concerning counterfeit direct relief vouchers of the St. Vincent de Paul Society found in a vacant Notre Dame street east apartment, Alcide Carmel, 5001 Notre Dame street west, appeared before Judge Tetreau yesterday and asked permission to change his former plea of guilty to the charge of stealing vouchers from the Hochelaga branch of the society. Carmel was charged with having stolen vouchers to the value of $300, the allegation being that he obtained them from Louis Mayer, vice-president of the society for the parish of la Nativite d'Hochelaga, who appeared with Carmel on their arraignment a week ago and pleaded guilty to the charge of conversion of vouchers. Permission for a changed of plea was given by the judge. 
Two further names have been added to the list of those accused in connection with frauds arising from St. Vincent de Paul direct relief vouchers. 
Fernand Rheault, 23 years of age, 2105 Chambly street, and A. Guerin, 23 years of age, 1433 Valois street, both of whom have pleaded guilty on arraignment before Judge Tetreau charged in connection with St. Vincent de Paul frauds, are awaiting sentence, which is set in each case for January 17. The former, assistant secretary of the Ste. Jeanne d'Arc parish branch of the St. Vincent de Paul society, was charged with having stolen direct relief vouchers to the value of at least $150, and the second was charged with having negotiated the vouchers. 
In admitting their respective charges, accused volunteered to reimburse the society with the amount stolen. 
"You stand charged with very serious offences," Judge Tetreau said, in refusing to be party to such an act at this stage. "You have pleaded guilty, and nothing you can do now can alter the charges against you." 
MANY FAKE VOUCHERS. In the meantime, action by the police is proceeding in the case of counterfeit direct-relief vouchers found in an unoccupied apartment on Notre Dame street, near Nicolet street. It was divulged that the vouchers, to the values of 25 cents and 50 cents, found hidden under a carpet, numbered several hundred, amounting in value to about $250. Other information is to the effect that many more thousands of counterfeit vouchers were either destroyed by fire or thrown into the St. Lawrence when the sensational investigation was sprung by the municipal police. 
Experts have declared that the counterfeits are well made but in certain respects can be clearly distinguished from the regular vouchers .

Not to get too intense about it, but I really do love a good retelling, but my criteria for good retellings are... not high, but perhaps more specific than they are for most people. If I had to make a list
A good retelling must understand the original text and its context. If one is retelling a Greek myth, you must understand not only the plot of the myth, but the author should also at least understand the intent behind the myth, both in charitable and uncharitable interpretations.
A good retelling must add something new by telling this story again. You can't just say that this is the same story... but in space! You have to know that the creation of a different context for a story fundamentally creates different themes and understandings, and take advantage of that. To go back to Greek myth, Hadestown is fundamentally a retelling of the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. However, instead of solely focusing on Hades as a figure representing Death, Hadestown focuses on Hades as a patron of the wealthy, the lord of all wealth hidden beneath the earth as much as the bones that also lay there. The story is then reframed as not just the story of Orpheus and Eurydice but also of the story of an early 1900s company town wherein Hades is the exploitative boss. Orpheus is voice of the downtrodden, traveling to this place of the downtrodden and trying, in his own way, to affect some tiny bit of change. In what I'd consider one of the seminal songs in the musical, "If It's True," where his simple action of singing this question about whether this is the only way things have to be awakes the deadened workers and their collective force makes Hades respond.
A good retelling must stand on its own even if the audience is unfamiliar with other tellings. Knowing the original should enhance the experience, but it should not be necessary. Sorry to keep using musical examples, but The Tain by The Decemberists is still a great song with solid lyrics, even if they're abstracted from the original story of The Cattle Raid of Cooley. They change the lyrics to more modern ideas, with references to Charlemagne, cars, and so on, but the through-line of the story is very clearly there. The story even ends with a direct question to Medb - was all that really worth it?
I dunno where I was going with the rest of this, but those are my thoughts on the matter.

"What do you mean I'm being transferred!" You shout to your manager
"My supervisor has requested that you be transferred to the branch closer to her for more... direct communication." He says. His eyes are wide, a small tremor takes over his right hand. For a former Army NCO to be that scared, she must be something.
"Have I done anything wrong?" You say.
"No, in fact you've been the best worker here. That's why she wants you."
You pinch your nose. "Is there anyway out of this?"
"I'm afraid she's made it exceptionally clear that there isn't."
"Fine. What's the address."
"I'll write it down."

You arrive at the office the next morning. The first leaves on the trees are turning red. It's luckily a shorter commute than your old office, but you're still pissed. You had climbed up from the pit of internships into a cozy position and office. You were the first trans, no scratch that, woman to get into management. This was bullshit.
You step in. The front desk is empty. You sit down and wait. And wait. And wait. Finally, a blonde worker passes by. The first thing you notice is that her outfit is less than professional. She wears a skirt that barely goes below her legs. Her stockings hug her tights very tight. Her blouse is basically open, showing off her admittedly very beautiful tits in a pair of lingerie. If you weren't so pissed you'd be turned on. You're glad you wore slacks today.
"Hey," You call to her. "Do you know where..." You check the slip of paper in your hand. "Miss Maverne's office is?"
The woman looks at you. Her make up is ruined, lipstick smudged, mascara spilling down her face. Her hair is messy. You could swear that you can see the outlines of hands on the sides of her face. Her pupils eclipse her blue eyes. She looks as if she barely knew where she was. After a long pause of blank stares at you, she says, "Do you mean Mistress?"
"Uh..." You're paralyzed by the absurdity of the situation. Have you stumbled onto a porn set by accident?
After a long minute of the girl thinking where you could almost hear the AOL noises playing in her head, she perks up and says, "Oh, you must be new here! I'll take you to Mistress!"
Her hand shooks out and drags you through a set of doors and into the office. You look around. You see many workers with the same blown out eyes, dazed looks, and slutty office wear around you. All women. One of them is drooling at their desk while colors flash on their computer. You wonder what the hell is going on here. You arrive at a large set of doors. "Here she is!"
A secretary sits at a desk next to the doors. She's wearing what couldn't even be charitably called an outfit. Just a few strips of cloth prevent her from being fully nude. On the exposed parts are very visible hickies.
"I brought a new recruit for Mistress!" The blonde hair girl says
The secretary pouts "But Mistress isn't accepting anyone till..."
"That's quite alright secretary, thank you." A woman's voice says. You look to your right, then up. The woman is at least 6'2", and she's wearing heels. Her towering over you is an understatement. She is wearing the only proper work outfit of slacks, a blouse, and jacket. Still, there is an aura of lust around her, like she could wear anything and still look sexy in it. Two grey eyes pierce into your soul. She grins.
"You're both very good girls, you can leave now" She says. The two girls shutter and wander off. "Now, Miss Claire Hall, would you please step into my office."
You're led in and sit down in a very comfortable chair. Miss Maverne continues to look into your very soul and says
"You're probably wondering why you're here right now."
"Yeah I am, what the fuck is this?"
"This is your new office for the foreseeable future. I picked you because you're special. It's not often a woman rises the ranks of this business."
"Thanks?"
"Good Girl."
A blush strikes your cheeks. You're really glad you wore slacks today. That compliment shouldn't have hit that hard.
"Now did your old boss give you any information about your new position?"
"N...no" you stutter out, still in minor shock from the compliment. "Just the address and your name."
"Wonderful, well, you noticed that the front desk was empty right?"
"Yeah?"
"You'll be working as the receptionist there."
"What!" The rage breaks through your flustered mind like a hammer. "May I remind you that I have years of experience in programming, administration, planning, and managing under my belt?"
"So does every other worker here. You might've been a big fish in a little pond there, but here you're puny, and you'll start where you deserve." She stands up, and you can't help but internalize her words a small bit. Still your indignation burns it.
"I'm leaving. I don't deserve this humiliation." You get up and walk to the door.
"Stop." You freeze stiff.
"Walk back." You walk back.
"Sit and stare into my eyes." You sit back down into the extremely comfortable chair and stare up into her eyes. They looked grey before but now hints of green and blue scatter in. You can't help but dive into them, trying to discover their true color. It feels like you're sinking deeper and deeper into an ocean of warm homey
"Aren't my eyes pretty?" She says.
"Yuh." The words don't move right and come out wrong.
"Don't you want to keep having the privilege to stare into my eyes?" Her voice is so beautiful.
This time the words don't even come out, you just nod.
She pulls out a contract and pen. "Then sign this."
You grab the pen but it falls out of your hand. "Oops! Let me help." She says in that musical voice. She takes the pen and places it in your hand, then pulls it to the paper. She guides it into a passable signature, then smiles.
"Good Girl." You shutter.
"Right, so first things first, your breast enhancement surgery is next week."
Sanity floats up above the honey ocean. "What?"
"And that outfit is not approved. At least the four top buttons of your blouse must be unbuttoned. Pants are not allowed, only skirts that are above the mid thigh."
"Excuse me?"
"It's all in your contract."
"I didn't sign this!"
"Is that not in fact your signature on the paper?"
You look down and see a perfect replica of your signature. Fury boils in you.
"Fuck that! I'm leaving!" You get up.
"Where are you going Miss Hall?"

I'm haunted by the beautiful potential in an Edwardian-era Persuasion.
A setting just after WWI, another time of major social upheaval--blurring class barriers, new ideas about gender roles, further crumbling of the aristocracy
Sir Walter blindly clings to the old order, barely thinking about the war except to lament the impossibility of getting good servants these days
Elizabeth Elliot styles herself as a bit of a women's rights activist, claiming this is the reason she remains unmarried
Anne would have served as a nurse if her father had allowed it, but of course he couldn't permit an Elliot of the Elliots to undertake such ugly work, so she stayed at home quietly undertaking the usual home-front charitable work
This war deepens the story's melancholy. There's not the same sense of the men returning home as conquering heroes. The world is changing, but is it worth what we've lost? Can we have hope for the future when all our optimistic dreams led to such slaughter?
The best way to retain some of Wentworth's glamour is to make him a flyboy. However, given their short life expectancies, I'm not sure how realistic it is to have him and several buddies survive the war.
A "band of brothers" in the trenches is also a decent analogue for their relationship
Harville's injury meant he was invalided home fairly early. Benwick's probably a wartime poet suffering from shell shock that only got worse after his fiance died in the influenza epidemic.
Louisa and Henrietta are of a slightly younger generation that hasn't been quite as scarred by the war. Their relative innocence makes them refreshing to a war-weary returning soldier
It's possible Wentworth is so shaken by Louisa's accident (and thus needs Anne to take charge) because it sparks some kind of PTSD flashback. (Though that may not be the best direction to take the character).
There's just so much potential to explore the layers--old wounds and new possibilities, finding ways to heal and grow and rebuild after pain and loss

since zionists want to act obtuse about why we're criticizing a superbowl ad, here's an explanation from before the ad even aired. it was openly designed to act as pro-genocide propaganda. fighting antisemitism is a worthy goal but that's not what's happening here:
"The New England Patriots’ 81-year-old owner, Robert Kraft, writes seven-digit checks to the right-wing Israeli lobbying machine AIPAC, but his personal, political, and financial ties to Israel run deeper than the occasional donation. The multibillionaire married his late wife, Myra, in Israel in 1963 when Kraft, then 22, was older than the nation itself. Together they set up numerous business, athletic, and charitable ties to Israel, a record of which is proudly proclaimed on the Kraft company website. In particular, the Kraft Group boasts of its 'Touchdown in Israel' program, where NFL players are given free, highly organized vacations to see 'the holy land' and come back to spread the word about 'the only democracy in the Middle East.' (Not every NFL player has chosen to take part.) Kraft also attends fundraisers for the Israel Defense Forces, currently—and in open view of the world—committing war crimes in Gaza."
Now, as Israel wages war against the civilians of Gaza—more than 25,000 Palestinian have been killed with at least 10,000 of them children—Kraft is again flexing his financial and political muscles in order to defend the indefensible. His Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS) will be spending an estimated $7 million to buy a Super Bowl ad titled 'Stop Jewish Hate' that will be seen by well over 100 million people. Under Kraft’s direction, the ad’s goal is to create a propaganda campaign to counter the reports and images from Gaza that young people are consuming on social media. 
... The content of the Super Bowl ad is not yet known, but FCAS has afforded Kraft the opportunity to make the rounds on cable news saying things like, 'It’s horrible to me that a group like Hamas can be respected and people in the United States of America can be carrying flags or supporting them.'
This is Kraft enacting the mission of FCAS: fostering disinformation. He is far from subtle: A Palestinian flag becomes a 'Hamas flag,' and people like the hundreds of thousands who took to the streets of Washington, D.C., last month to call for a cease-fire and end the violence are expressions of the 'rise in antisemitism.' Without a sense of irony or the horrors happening on the ground in Gaza, Kraft says he is giving $100 million of his own money to FCAS, because 'hate leads to violence.'
Let’s be clear: What Kraft is doing politically and what he will be using the Super Bowl as a platform to do is dangerous. He appears to think any criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic. For Kraft, it is Jews like myself, rabbis, and Holocaust survivors calling for a cease-fire and a Free Palestine that are part of the problem. Kraft seems to think that opposition to Israel, the IDF, and the AIPAC agenda is antisemitism.
... Right-wing Christian nationalists, with their belief in a Jewish state existing alongside their conviction that Jews are going to Hell, are welcome in Netanyahu’s Israel and Kraft’s coalition. Left-wing anti-Zionist Jews are not. The greatest foghorn of this evangelical right-wing 'love Israel, hate Jews' perspective is, of course, Donald Trump. Kraft, while speaking of being troubled by events like the Charlottesville Nazi march and the right-wing massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue, counts Donald Trump as a close friend and even donated $1 million to his presidential inauguration.
No one who provides cover for the most powerful, public antisemite in the history of US politics should ever be taken seriously on how to best fight antisemitism. No one who funds AIPAC and the IDF and opposes a cease-fire amid the carnage should be allowed a commercial platform at the Super Bowl. But given that the big game is always an orgy of militarism, blind patriotism, and big budget commercials that lie through their teeth, perhaps that ad could not be more appropriate. We can do better than Kraft’s perspective on how to fight antisemitism. Morally, we don’t have a choice."

It's November 2015
My entire life is about to come undone. I will be removed from my Christian university for interrupting an invited speaker comparing homosexuality to pedophilia and murder. I will come out publicly for the first time in my life and Iose the majority of my friends. I am pulling bread from the oven. I yell to my boyfriend that it's open for his stewed apples. An hour drive. Hugs exchanged. While I help my mom with clean up, my dad asks my boyfriend how night classes are going. When we leave, my mom sneaks money to him, knowing I'll fight her on it. "Go out to eat this weekend!"
