📓📚📒📖
chill mah dude
📓 - I would like to, one day, write a fic of the events leading up to Keldor's coup in the Core/CGI series. We got the "I, Skeletor" novel, but that's about Keldor and Randor in their early teens. Randor is not king yet and their parents are still alive. I want to write a fic taking place when Adam is six, Randor is King, and Keldor is laying plans for his coup.
📚 - I also wanna one day write a really ambitious fic that utilizes the prophesy from the Classics-Line comics. In the Classic-Line there's a prophesy that when the Three Towers are restored, the "great kings" of Eternia will return to the living. But in the comics, the only kings that return are Randor and Miro and, I'm sorry, but those dudes ain't that great. If you're gonna put in a prophesy about "the great kings" then use the great ones! King Grayskull for example! Have the prophesy bring back King Grayskull! Like, come on! The gimmick is right there! Also, the prophesy does not specify the great kings having a "good" alignment, so in my version of the prophesy, King Hiss would also come back. He was a "great" king of Eternia. Full roster of "great kings":
D'Vann Grayskull (alignment: good; goddess: Zoar)
King Hiss (alignment: neutral; goddess: Serpos)
Hordak (alignment: evil; goddess: Horokoth)
Skeletor (alignment: chaotic; goddess: Bash-Or)
Four kings, one for each goddess.
They'd each also have a sorceress.
Grayskull - Veena
Hiss - Teela
Hordak - Entrapta
Skeletor - Evil-Lyn
📒 - I wanna do a cute ship fic for Skeleteen that makes excessive use of the trope "Identity Porn". Identity Porn is when one character has 2 identities (think Superman and Clark Kent) and the rest of the characters they interact with think they're 2 separate people. I've dipped my toes in this idea already. But with an OC that I kinda high-key hated. Next time I wanna try it with a canon character. (Probably Ram Man II, I don't know why, he's just the one I picked out and stuck with.) The premise is, Skeleteen is unrecognizable as Skeleteen without his helmet. Ram Man II would happen upon Malkyn when he's doing some innocuous thing while not wearing his helmet and they would become friends with Ram Man II having a huge crush on Malkyn. When Malkyn shows up to their meetings with bruises or bandages, he assumed someone's been mistreating him and Malkyn needs to be rescued. He has no idea that the injuries come from their own battles together. One day Malkyn shows up riding Skeleteen's gryphon and Ram Man II assumed Malkyn might be Skeleteen's beast trainer, that would mean that Skeleteen's been the one beating him and Ram Man vows to defeat Skeleteen and free Malkyn once and for all.
📖 - multiple AUs where Zalesia is never destroyed with varying impacts on the present depending on where I wanna take the story.

Evil-Lyn
So when you look up the backstory for the Masters of the Universe character Evil-Lyn, there was kiiind of an origin in the ‘80s: a man named Michael Halperin wrote a series bible dated December 1982 where Queen Marlena’s backstory as an astronaut from Earth was elaborated with a crew consisting of jealous second-in-command Evelyn Morgan Powers, Doctor T.E. Scope and biologist Biff Beastman who crashed separately from the escape pod she was in and turned evil because reasons. (Biff Beastman!)
Apparently every Filmation writer who read this was like “WTF no that’s terrible” because it was never mentioned and contradicted by Marlena’s whole spacecraft splashing down with her alone, intact enough to put in a museum.
The 2002 cartoon brought back Halperin and Filmation staff writer Larry DiTillio, but the latter came up with an original backstory: she raised somewhere called Zalesia by her undead sorcerer father, the Faceless One. The day she met Kelddor, the future Skeletor, she was a witch thief who looked like this:
Tumblr media
Despite undead sorcerers almost always being evil, Daddy seemed to be on the side of good. Why she spent decades rebelling with Keldor/Skeletor was left unexplained when the cartoon was canceled after 39 episodes.
Here’s where things get goofy: there was a 2004 comic NOT by DiTillio that tried to explain the mystery: Lyn’s father, King of Zalesia, was a contemporary of King Grayskull. That’s the era she was born in...
Tumblr media
... and when Zalesia was being destroyed by a god-beast during her infancy (it was the Faced One’s fault), a time-traveling Keldor appeared in his palace and offered to raise her somewhere safe.
... except that would be HORRIBLY creepy when the 2002 cartoon treated Keldor/Lyn as a couple and Skeletor/Lyn as exes, so apparently he immdiately left her with the Faceless One thousands of years later in his time of origin? What a convoluted baby delivery service.
I just want stories where Evil-Lyn tries to make Keldor visit her undead dad and be really uncomfortable around this undead goody goody, then one day he dies and it’s ironic.
Oh yeah, and Evil-Lyn Classics action figure was given a biography with the full name Evelyn Morgan Powers despite being from an alien planet, so when the Faceless One got a toy, he was suddenly Nicholas Powers. Eh, it makes sense if you have an alien named Duncan.

new fic idea! (actually old fic idea that I'm revisiting)
Years ago, a childless couple in the middle of nowhere are asked to taken a woman's child. The woman doesn't identify herself to them, but she's human with gold skin and white hair, and dressed in purple armor. What's more interesting, the woman is human, but her child is Gar, blue skin and pointed ears, and her white hair. The couple is confused, but they're happy to have a child, so they promise to raise him as if he were thier own.
Its now the present, some time after He-Man destroyed the Ram Stone, and the Sorceress notices Evil-Lyn outside the castle digging in the dirt and trying to collect the shards. The sorceress remembers that Lyn is the last Princess of Zalesia and that the Ram Stone was sacred to Zalesia, and so she does not try to stop her.
When Lyn returns to Snake Mountain, she's cornered by Skeletor who notices that she's collected all the shards of Ram Stone and decides to use them in one final plan against He-Man and Castle Grayskull. It's said that only the blood of the royal line of Zalesia can reform the Ram Stone, and look how lucky he is, the last Princess of Zalesia already works for him! Myehehehehe~! But Evil-Lyn refuses, saying she'll never let him use her culture's sacred artifacts in his schemes again.
There's a fight. Evil-Lyn escapes to the protection of the Faceless One, but Skeletor gets the Ram Stone shards.
Now he just needs someone with the blood of Zalesia to reform it for him...

We're back in the main era of the timeline and Keldor has just arrived in Zalesia. His welcome isn't exactly warm, but he does manage to find one friend in Beastman... and possibly a second friend in the resident city ghost, the Faceless One.

My stupid brain comes up with AUs faster than I can write them.
Here's my new AU:
I already did a "Zalesia was never destroyed and is still a powerful city in Randor's time" fic. I wanted to do something where Zalesia is destroyed, but instead of being wiped out completely the survivors of Zalesia become a nomadic people. They still worship the ram and are powerful warriors and sorcerers. They just don't have a big city with giant monuments anymore.
But that was all I had. How was I going to build a story with this?
Then I was thinking of Keldor (as I so often am) and was thinking "what if Miro loved him and Miro wasn't the problem?" What's the problem? Why is Keldor estranged/banished/separated from the rest of the royal family? Well, what if Keldor was the son of Miro's mistress, the woman Miro actually loved. When Miro's legal wife (the Queen) finally gives birth to a son, Randor, Keldor's mother fears for his safety (maybe even his life). Now that there's a rival for the throne. What if Keldor's mother resolved to smuggle her son out of Eternos.
The Zalesian Nomads just happen to be passing through the Plains at that time, and Keldor's mother gives him to the Zalesians to protect and raise. And so, Keldor grows up under the protection of the ram goddess of Zalesia.
Donno where to go from here.
Does he get mixed up with Hordak?
Does he try to conquer Eternos?
Does he become Skeletor still?
Like, a long lost heir is a great premise for a story. Lots of political drama and family drama. And if I play up the falcon goddess Zoar and the ram goddess Bash-Or there can be spiritual drama too. Man vs Man, Man vs. God, and Man vs. Himself, all in one!
But I'll never write it.
If someone else wants to write it, please do! I'd love to read it!

Before the new MotU series is released in July, I wanna try and make the fandom nice for all the new fans its gonna bring in looking for content.
I wanna have nice soft couches and pillows stuffed with fluff.
The rickety library ladder for anyone who craves a lit of adventure!
A blanket fort for anyone who just needs to sit and have emotions.
In the corner there's a hookah filled with something other than tobacco.
A dimly lit isle with shelves of obscure lore.
And a curtained-off section in the back with a clerk checking IDs.
Couches and Pillows:
"Carrots" - mlm, Trap Jaw/Tri-Klops, domestic fluff, grocery shopping, fake married?, Trap Jaw and Tri-Klops are shopping at the farmers' market together. [COMPLETE]
"Grilled Cheese" - family, mlm, Trap Jaw/Tri-Klops, domestic, fan kid, parenting, parenting a disabled child, cooking. Trap Jaw doesn't like his blind daughter using the stove. Tri-Klops disagrees. [COMPLETE]
Rickety Ladder:
"Gleam of Destiny" - AU, Evil-Lyn is never rescued from King Hiss, Zalesia is never destroyed, Keldor never becomes Skeletor, and yet, Eternia still does not have peace... [IN-PROGRESS]
"Two Brothers" - prequel, quest fic, family, Keldor is young and naive and just wants to save his father, Randor is learning what it means to be King, Marzo is there to make things difficult. [IN-PROGRESS, hiatus]
"Two Heirs" - next gen fic, Skeleteen might be Skeletor's heir but that doesn't mean he plans to carry on where Skeletor left off. He just wants a nice chill reign with no wars or meddling heroes interfering with his real plans. ...but the Unnamed One has plans of his own... [IN-PROGRESS]
Blanket Fort of Emotion:
"Dream Weavers' Retreat" - taking place at some point during Adam's tenure as He-Man. Adam wakes up one day and everything is perfect. The Evil Warriors are friends with the Masters, Skeletor doesn't exist, Eternia has peace, everything is wonderful! ...which means that something must be terribly, terribly wrong. [COMPLETE]
"Inexplicable Disappearance of Prince Malkyn of the House of Keldor" - title is longer than the fic (jk, its not), prequel, once upon a time Skeletor wasn't Skeletor. Once upon a time Skeletor was Prince Keldor. Once upon a time Prince Keldor had a son. ...He doesn't anymore, though. [COMPLETE]
"Possessive" - dark fic, toxic relationships, toxic ex, Evil-Lyn sneaks out to meet a boyfriend. Skeletor is not pleased. [COMPLETE]
Hookah Filled w/ Something Other Than Tobacco:
"Who's Your Daddy?" - AU, crack, crack treated seriously?, Skeletor is Prince Adam's father. [DISCONTINUED]
"Family Dinner on Eternia" - crossover with SPOP, Adora is reunited with her family and Marlena wants to know what kind of person raised her daughter, so she invites Hordak to dinner! Hordak brings Entrapta. Catra wasn't invited, but she barges in anyway. That was bad enough, but it turns out King Miro is still alive and he would like to have a nice family dinner with both his sons and insisted that Randor invite his estranged brother. ...So Skeletor's coming to dinner! And he's bringing Evil-Lyn and Skeleteen with him! [IN-PROGRESS, hiatus]
Dimly Lit Shelves of Obscure Lore:
"untitled" - a fanon AU of a canon AU, everyone lives/nobody dies, based off the "Masters of the Multiverse" comic and taking place in the Anti-Eternia universe. Adam didn't die in the final battle, and his Uncle Keldor takes him out to do a little street art to cope with the trauma. One the way back there is a minor incident and Adam over-reacts. [COMPLETE]
"Aftermath" - Anti-Eternia universe, taking place after the "Masters of the Multiverse" comic. King Randor doesn't understand why his son never came home after the final battle. Everyone else who was corrupted by Anti-Truth did. [COMPLETE]
"Sorceress" - sequel to "Aftermath". Teela no longer has a place in the guard and his struggling with her own guilt and trauma. Keldor is still trying to figure out how to be the new He-Man and thinks this traumatized girl would make a good Sorceress of Grayskull. [COMPLETE]
Curtained-Off Section (MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO ENTER!):
"Inconvenient Arrangements" - crossover with SPOP, Entrapdak, past-Hordak/Keldor, Hordak and Entrapta are forced to marry. Overall, things could have been worse. [IN-PROGRESS, hiatus]
"Negotiations Between Fangs and Hornes" - mlm, King Hiss/Faceless One, PWP, King Nikolas is tasked with bringing the terms of the treaty to King Hiss. ...Negotiations go differently than expected.

I hate having a hyperactive brain that comes up with AUs faster than I can write them.
So,
Who wants to hear about a new AU that I'll probably never write!
This one will actually take place during Adam's tenure as He-Man. (I know, right. Me coming up with a fic that takes place during the main time period instead of a prequel or sequel! Am I feel okay!?)
There's a new McGuffin that the Sorceress wants Adam to find before Skeletor does. But the McGuffin can only be touched by a descendent of Zalesia (its not the Ram Stone, Adam already destroyed that). And Adam's all like, "So... you want me to try and free the Faceless One from his curse, or make friends with Evil-Lyn, 'cause freeing the Faceless One sounds easier of the two."
And the Sorceress would go on an explanation that there's one other descendent of Zalesia. The child Evelyn had before she became Evil-Lyn.
In this AU, instead of giving her baby to Mighty Specter, Evil-Lyn found some rando villagers somewhere Skeletor would never look to raise her baby for her. So, 'Skeleteen' would be the same age as Adam in this AU.
The Sorceress sends He-Man and Man-at-Arms to go find Evil-Lyn's son.
I've decided, the village Evil-Lyn left him in is on the far-south plains.
Tumblr media
Nice and cold so that its a totally normal thing for people to walk around without any skin showing (unlike the rest of Eternia where everyone runs around in fur bikinis).
It's a lot harder to tell a person is Gar instead of human when they're dressed like this.
Tumblr media
And perhaps the Sorceress failed to mention that Evil-Lyn's son is also Gar.
He-Man and Man-at-Arms just roll into this southern village and ask for the "mysterious orphan that was dropped off here 18 years ago". And he's He-Man, he's the Legendary Hero of Eternia. Nobody asks why. They're just like 'Skeleteen' you should go with him.
There's a moment of shock when 'Skeleteen' removed his mask, goggles, and hood and he's got blue skin and pointed ears under there. But Adam's a good sport and has learned to roll with it when weird shit happens. All the Sorceress told him was that he's "Evil-Lyn's son", the Sorceress didn't say anything about who Evil-Lyn's baby-daddy was, and its not like Gar are unheard of. Adam even has a Gar friend! Sy-Klops. So, of course he knows all about Gar. And Skeletor's got a Gar working for him, Trap Jaw. And Trap Jaw and Evil-Lyn work together. Obviously, Adam would never assume... after all, not all Gar are related! But, like, the connection is right there...
They go on their adventure and get to the place the McGuffin is and Skeletor's already there with Evil-Lyn.
There's the obligatory fight.
In the commotion, 'Skeleteen' manages to grab the McGuffin.
And Skeletor has this moment. A Gar? That's also a descendent of Zalesia? And is approximately 18 years old?
Skeletor disengages from his battle with He-Man and launches into the classic "Join me and we can rule as father and son" speech.
And He-Man's like, "WHAT!?" This seems like information the Sorceress should have told him before she sent him out to find this guy. He-Man never would have let him get close to Skeletor if he'd known. He was assuming Trap Jaw. He forgets sometimes that Skeletor used to be Gar.
'Skeleteen', meanwhile, is just this country bumpkin who got thrown into the absurd power struggle between titans. He was just enjoying his happy little life in the South Pole, farming cabbage and pickling eels. Then He-Man had to roll in and ruin everything. So, he doesn't wanna take He-Man's side. But Skeletor is straight-up evil. So he's not gonna side with Skeletor either, daddy issues be damned.
So, he keeps the McGuffin and fucks off.
Fuck them both!
He's gonna keep this McGuffin and he's gonna use it!
'Skeleteen' leaves (and Evil-Lyn goes with him to teach him how to use the McGuffin, and general magic, and to protect him from Skeletor, and because she wants to get to know her son). And they become another neutral faction like Zodak or the Faceless One. Definitely against Skeletor, but not on He-Man's side either.
Anyway, have a rough sketch of what 'Skeleteen' would look like.

ya know how you get one idea and then that idea gives birth to other ideas, and then other ideas, and then others, and before you know it your head is just spiraling out of control and all you can think about are your ideas...
Anyway-
Here's my new idea!
Nick (the Faceless One) never rescued Evil-Lyn from King Hiss.
Evil-Lyn was raised by King Hiss as his adopted daughter, and when Zodak trapped all the Snakemen, he trapped Evil-Lyn too.
Nick followed the Council of Wisdom's instructions and forsook his daughter, he didn't even try to rescue her. The people of Zalesia did not like that, they wanted thier princess back and they did not think their King should have bent to a foreign power (the Council). So, as punishment, Nick's own people curse him to become the Faceless One. He's no longer King, just a ghost that haunts the city.
Zalesia is never destroyed, it continues to live and thrive, but they isolate themselves now, so that no other forgein power can control thier leaders. Zalesia does not agknowlage the authority of Eternos or King Miro/Randor/ etc. They also don't have any Kings of their own anymore and instead are ruled by a board of representatives from their community (they also don't like the word "Council").
When Keldor is exiled from Eternos, instead of finding Hordak and getting involved in that mess, he ends up in Zalesia. Which is accepting of any and all races so long as they forsake their ties to the outside. Keldor experiences no racism in Zalesia, and he likes it. Kronis and Beastman are also there for much the same reason, no racism. They can live comfortable lives in peace. (Keldor still wants to be a ruler one day, though, but instead of usurping, he becomes an active member of the community and maybe eventually becomes one of the community Representatives in the ruling body.)
Then, Zodak frees the Snakemen because he wants revenge.
The Sorceress gives Adam the sword and tells him to become He-Man and protect Eternia from the "great evil", which is King Hiss, not Skeletor. In this AU, Skeletor does not exist.
When King Hiss returns, he brings with him all his Snakemen and his adopted daughter, Evil-Lyn.
Meanwhile, back in Zalesia, the Faceless One can sense that his daughter has returned to the world and he has a new chance to save her! But, he's cursed and can't leave the city, so he has to act through a proxy.
One night, Keldor's having a normal evening in Zalesia. Minding his own business, and just generally having a great time, when the city's resident ghost appears before him and bestows on him an impossible task: to rescue the lost princess. And he gives Keldor the Havoc Staff.
Perhaps Keldor teams up with He-Man to defeat Hiss, I'm not sure...
But, in the end, Keldor rescues Lyn from King Hiss and returns the lost princess to her city. As a reward, Keldor gets what he really wanted all along: to be ruler. The board of Representatives name Keldor the NEW King of Zalesia.
The first King Zalesia has had in 1000 years.

Did you ever just have a random scenario that was floating around in your head that you had to put out there?
I’ve always wondered what would happen if Zalescia (sp?) wasn’t destroyed but frozen in time. And somehow the curse is lifted, it rises from its sleep and it’s people are alive and well and love their ruler. Evil-Lyn is legitimate royalty and will serve as queen. How would Randor deal with her as a peer and the Masters deal with having to work out trade routes, land rights, safe passage, etc? Would Skeletor use this as opportunity to increase his own power and try to make a little prince so his bloodline is secure? Would Evil-Lyn decide she loves ruling and legitimately wants to nurture and care for her people so Skeletor’s goals aren’t really hers anymore?
It’s all just swirling around in my noggin :)
I love this idea! And I'd love to read it! You should totally write it!
I have had ideas about Zalesia never being destroyed before (one of which is even posts on AO3 right now!). It's an AU taking place in the 2002 cartoon continuity where when Keldor is rejected by the Council of Elders, instead of finding Hordak, he finds Zalesia and apprentices under the Faceless One.
But that's very different than what you described. If I understood your scenario correctly, Evil-Lyn is still one of Skeletor's minions and did not grow up in the version of Zalesia that was frozen in time. That's a really interesting idea and could be a source of a lot of tension. I can't imagine a city would very readily accept a Queen that wasn't raised in their culture and doesn't fully understand them.
At the same time, Lyn might want to take some time to learn about her people and where she comes from. But she'd have pressure on her from Skeletor to take control quickly and use the city and its resources to defeat He-Man.
Or, Evil-Lyn could rally the city behind her to overthrow Skeletor and she take over as the ultimate Evil power on Eternia.
I see a lot of possibilities with your idea! :D
I'd love to read it and I hope you write it one day!

Deleted Scene from my current fic!
From chapter 2 of "Gleam of Destiny". I deleted this scene because it doesn't really fit with the flow of the rest of the chapter, the transitions between it and the scene before it and the scene after it feel really abrupt and awkward. It makes the chapter feel choppy.
But, I still like it. So, I'm posting it here. You're free to read it if you're interested.
("Gleam of Destiny" is an AU fic from Masters of the Universe 2002 reboot in which Zalesia is never destroyed, and so when Keldor is rejected by Miro/the Council of Elders, instead of finding Hordak, he finds Zalesia and the Faceless One becomes his mentor instead. Chapter 2, the chapter this scene was cut from, takes place in the Preternia era before King Nikolas becomes the Faceless One.)
The High Shepherdess stomped through the Temple of the Shepherdesses, being led by a concerned Shepherdess acolyte, with two members of the city guard in tow.
“And nobody thought to ask why the King was in a part of the Temple that only trained Shepherdesses are supposed to be in?” She fumed as they power walked.
“Everyone just assumed he was here to see you, Your Excellency.” Explained the acolyte nervously.
The High Shepherdess suppressed the urge to snarled at the younger woman. It was an understandable assumption to make. King Nikolas was her brother-by-law and they were in the middle of an on-going family emergency. Even so, the High Shepherdess would never invite someone who was not meant to be in this part of the Temple to see her here. Not even the King. Not even her brother-by-law. Not even during their family emergency. It wasn’t just about privacy. They stored dangerous things in this part of the Temple!
The acolyte held a door open for the High Shepherdess. “He’s in here.”
She hadn’t even turned fully when the High Shepherdess saw him lying on the cold stone floor in front of a brazier. It didn’t take much to realize what he was trying to do. Perform a divination without any sort of training.
“Help me roll him on his side!” The High Shepherdess dropped to her knees next to him and tried to lift one of his wide shoulders and role his bulk over.
The two guards knelt down to help her. Rolling Nick on his side, resting his head on one arm, and bending one of his knees to keep him from rolling back over, just in case.
Confident that the idiot wouldn’t choke himself on his own vomit, the High Shepherdess stood back up and gave the room a more critical examination. She needed to know what he took.
The Havoc Staff was leaned against one wall, off to the side and out of the way. There was a worktable that held the remains of the goat he gutted for the entrails, and a tray of the bloodied butchering tools. A second table held a small burner, a kettle, and a tankard like the kind men liked to drink beer from, and two storage jars she recognized as being from the Temple’s storeroom.
Next to her, the acolyte leaned over the brazier to see what the burn patterns in the entrails might have told their King.
Seeing the acolyte move out of the corner of her eye, the High Shepherdess grabbed the lid to the brazier and slammed it down over the entrails. “That is between King Nikolas and the Goddess.”
She turned her attention back to the storage jars. Both leaves and vines. Nick drank both leaves and vines. She checked the kettle to see if there was any water left in it. There wasn’t. She checked his tankard to see if there was any tea left in it. There wasn’t. But there was a dark ring around the rim, showing her how full it had been. Too much. Nick drank too much.
“Um… Your Excellency? His pulse is really weak.” Announced one of the guards. She was kneeling next to Nick’s prone body, two fingers pressed to the inside of his wrist.
The High Shepherdess turned to the acolyte. “How long has he been like this?”
“I- I don’t know.” Confessed the younger Shepherdess. “I just found him like this and then went straight to find you.”
The High Shepherdess bit her nail with anxiety. She lost her sister, her niece was kidnapped, and now it looked like her idiot brother-by-law was in the process of accidentally killing himself.
“He’s in the hold of Bash-Or.” She said aloud, speaking more to herself than the other people in the room. “If he still has a journey to compete here, she’ll return him to us. If not…”
She trailed off.

I’m gonna preface this by saying that I know nothing in the MotU franchise is ever written with critical analysis in mind. You are not meant to actually think about Masters of the Universe, you’re just meant to buy them.
That being said...
How did Nick Powers/the Faceless One raise an infant in the isolated ruin of Zalesia?
Zalesia is a ruin. A destroyed city. The only residents, himself and his daughter. Its located in a remote and dangerous to cross desert where literal fire pits up from the sand like the Fire Swamp from the Princess Bride. The Faceless One cannot leave Zalesia. He is cursed to stay there.
People have no reason to come to Zalesia so there aren’t gonna be any caravans or other travelers or traders coming to Zalesia to bring supplies. Faceless can’t leave so it’s not like he can just pop on down to a grocery store for formula and diapers.
So, like, how in the hell did he manage to keep an infant alive? Never mind raise her to adulthood!
