you will blaze like fire (and lack the oxygen to keep yourself burning)
Dandelionkit blinks. “I want Lionblaze to mentor me,” she says, her voice barely above a mouse’s breath.
Squirrelflight crouches over her, tail draped around Dandelionkit’s thin shoulders. “I’m sure he’d love to,” she says quietly. “I’ll ask Bramblestar if he can, okay? But only if you eat your herbs.”
Dandelionkit looks down at the chewed-up bundle at her paws, eyes impossibly tired. “Do you think he’ll name me Dandelionblaze?”
Despite herself, Squirrelflight purrs. She runs her tail along Dandelionkit’s white-splotched back, hoping to encourage her to eat. “If that’s what you want,” she says. “I once knew a cat who picked his own name, too. I’m sure you can have a say.”
The pale ginger she-cat nods, beginning to lap up the pulp. “I’d like to be like him, momma. Lion,” she clarifies, as if Squirrelflight wouldn’t know. “He’s so strong.”
“You’ll be strong, too,” Squirrelflight says, willing herself to believe it. “Stronger, if you eat your honey. Lionblaze never took his herbs.”
The small kit manages around half the pile before she gasps, little sides heaving. The herbs come up with bitter, awful-smelling bile, and then Dandelionkit coughs and coughs and coughs, frame shaking and rattling and spasming—
(Squirrelflight has never felt so helpless.)

With the hopes that squilf lives to get them, who do you think gives her her lives? Leafpool would for sure give her one with Firestar and Sandstorm too, I'd like to see Hollyleaf give her one and show some appreciation for adoption, I realize I'm just listing her family so Feathertail probably would too
NO dotc cameos NO field guide cameos idc what sort of fanservice the erins think they're providing i HATE it, such a massive cast and you waste such a personal and touching moment on characters that don't even know each other. why the FUCK IS LIONHEART GIVING BRAMBLE A LIFE AND NOT HOLLY THEY DIDNT EVEN KNOW EACH OTHER-
anyways this is like. my ideal fantasy squirrelflight's nine lives where characters are more fully realized but hear me out:
Firestar - Change or justice
Sandstorm - Perseverance or loyalty
Leafpool - Love
Hollyleaf - Family
Dustpelt - Diligence
Shrewpaw - Friendship
Dandelionkit & Juniperkit (im cheating i know but theyre a package pair) - Fun/Playfulness/Taking time to enjoy life while it lasts
Feathertail - Adventure or acceptance
Foxleap and Rosepetal (cheating again but imagine they both show up and they do some playful banter about who's gonna give their old mentor a life) - Mentorship/Knowledge/Learning

Humanized Warriors: Brambleclaw
The Bramble man himself, or as I call him, huge wasted character potential. You had such an interesting arc you could have gone down... ):
▲ Brambleclaw
Name: Bradley 'Brad' Gunther Jaeger
Clan: Sect of Thunder | Sect of Storms | Order of Apollo | ThunderClan
Rank: Elder
Leadership Period: November 2012 to January 2096 (83 years and 2 months)
Birthday: January 11th, 1914 (Capricorn; Earth Sign)
[Capricorn is a grounded Earth sign and responsible, disciplined, with good self control but also a know-it-all, unforgiving, and condescending. This can fit Brambleclaw’s established character after TPB quite well. Capricorn also correlates with the MBTI type ESTJ, which is also what Brambleclaw is typed as.]
[His Ascendant sign is Aries.]
Current Age: 184 years and 1 month (as of end of Thunder) | Looks 75.35 years
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Height: 192.5 cm (6’3”)
Weight: 104.3 kg (230lbs)
Ancestry: 35.94% English, 25% Swedish, 17.19% German, 12.5% Japanese, 6.25% Scandinavian, 3.12% Irish
Description: Bramblestar has a large, tall, sturdy, muscular frame with broad shoulders, a broad head, a broad chest, and a rectangular-shaped face. He has tanned skin with neutral undertones and a long scar stretching from his right shoulder to left breast. He has short, thick, sleek, dark brown hair that darkens to black at the roots, and wide-set, upturned, pale amber eyes.
After having his body possessed by Ashfur, his body became rather damaged. His body put on weight and he hardly washed or groomed himself, his hair being oily and unwashed and he stank. He gained a scar on his leg, scars on his face, somehow a scar on his buttcheek*…a scar on his neck, a deep scar on his shoulder, and cuts on his face, sides and mouth. And to top it all off, Ashfur gave Bramblestar’s body a bad haircut. ):
Immediate Family
Mother: Goldenflower
Father: Tigerstar
Sister: Tawnypelt
Half-brother: Hawkfrost
Half-sister: Mothwing
Wife: Squirrelstar (formerly*)
Adopted Sons: Lionblaze, Jayfeather
Adopted Daughter: Hollyleaf
Sons: Alderheart, Juniperkit
Daughters: Sparkpelt, Dandelionkit
Name Meanings and Decisions
Bradley is from a surname that originally came from a place name meaning "broad clearing" in Old English. Bradley as his name comes from a funny headcanon of mine that Goldenflower had a difficult birth with her second child because his shoulders were so broad he got stuck for several hours. Goldenflower herself just liked the name. But also he’s Brambleclaw, his name would be “Brad”.
Gunther means “war” combined with “army, warrior”, and highlights his physical prowess. Rather than give him the same warrior name as Tigerstar, Firestar named him after Bramblestar’s own strengths. (Qualities, Firestar would note, were also positive qualities of Tigerstar.)
Jaeger is a variant of Jäger, meaning "hunter" in German, from Old High German jagon meaning "to hunt". Altogether his names mean “warrior and hunter in a broad clearing”.
-
Additional Notes(*):
Ashfur tried shaving after 111 years. It did not go very well.
I think it's much more interesting if Squilf and Bramble realized their relationship was toxic in SqH and agreed to divorce for each other's wellbeing. This makes their relationship in TBC even stronger as its coming from a place of genuine care for one another and the desire for each other's happiness.

Made me sad with the Dandelionkit short, BUT NOW I'm saving her!
Feathertail knows she shouldn't be doing this, that it's against the laws starclan has, but as she pads into Thunderclan's nursery, she can't seem to find reason to care. Gently, she licks a sleeping Squirrelflight's cheek, before bending down to touch Dandelionkit. However, before she can speak, a flash of ginger catches her eye.
"You shouldn't be here, Feather." Firestar whispers, voice soft as he sits beside her.
"I can't let Squirrelflight lose this kit. She's lost so much, gone through so much..." Feathertail says, eyes blazing. "I--"
Firestar waves his tail, gently brushing it over Feathertail's muzzle. "I know. I said you shouldn't be here, not that I was going to stop you. In fact, I'm going to help. The strength of two is better than one."
A purr erupts from Feathertail, and she blinks gratefully at Firestar. "You always were my favorite Uncle." She replied, voice warm.
Rolling his eyes, Firestar touches his nose to Dandelionkit, his fur gradually getting brighter. "With this, I give you strength. Use it to protect your clan and your family."
Watching as the energy Firestar gave to Dandelionkit settle in the kit's body, Feathertail spoke "With this, I give you energy. Use it to play, hunt, run and learn." she murmurs, focusing on the joys of her kithood, playing with Stormfur and Dawncloud, and presses her nose against Dandelionkit's nose.
The kit gives a contented purr, breathing growing stronger and tiny claws flexing. The two starclan cats purr, outlines beginning to fade as dawn began to break.
Dandelionkit wakes, energy coursing through her veins. Tail waving, the kit purred, tackling Sparkkit. With a giggle the two sisters start fighting, waking up the entire nursery. Both are in trouble, but the look of wonderment and astonishment never leaves the clan's eyes as Dandelionkit continues to grow stronger every passing day, soon growing bigger than both Sparkkit and Alderkit.
The clan whispers about Starclan saving her, like they did with Poppyfrost, but the kit pays no mind to it, eagerly playing with her den mates.
Eventually, their apprentice ceremony comes, and she is named Dandelionpaw, and her mentor is Poppyfrost. As she grows, ginger and silver patches of fur appear, growing larger each passing day. Soon her fur is all silver and ginger, with only her body size and shape giving away her tigerkin heritage.
awww, thank you nonnie. this is sweet!

*edit finally crumpled down and changed Emberkit back to Firekit. They’re an original character after all, and their prefix did fit them. So changing them back to orange tabby, and back to the name Firekit.
Alright one last kitten post for Starkit’s Prophecy Redux Iterum verse- this time with Starkit II’s kits with Jazzstar.
Though this verse their parentage will be changing (still connected to Jazzstar and Starkit though the First not the Second).
Now onto their name changes
Fluffykit
Fluffykit is the only one of the siblings not named after someone interestingly enough. Which is even more surprising when he is rather important from how much he is written.
He is actually the easiest, and I gifted him my favorite prefix, Dandelion-. The other possibilities was Daffodil- or even Light-.
But Dandelion- works with a long furred cat and honestly I just love it too much to pass it up.
And Y’know I’ll discuss suffixes with the three too, and Dandelionkit is a -heart of -dusk. While him and his entire litter are described as good fighters from birth, Dandelionkit loses any fight by himself.
Which hey that’s a newborn kit you may say, and yeah but look at Starkit’s Prophecy. We got Tigerkit and Starkit II fighting and killing people from the womb.
He’s a -heart due to how dedicated he is to the cause. Sacrificing himself and even in his dying breath he doesn’t regret it, claiming this was his “destiny” to die there. He doesn’t follow his mother into her weak willed attempt at evilness and chooses his Clan.
Which could make him a -dusk as well due to his loyalty and dedication to the Clan.
So either Dandelionheart or Dandeliondusk
Firekit
They difficult to pin down, as they’re only mentioned twice. Once when they’re born and said to be bright ginger and named, and the other scene was them helping their siblings fight Tigerstar. They I can only presume named after Firestar.
Which another thing- we don’t actually know Firekit’s gender. The wiki lists Firekit as a she-cat, but there is nothing in the texts saying this from what I can get. So I’ll elect to just calling Firekit a Jack as of right now, and going with that. Our non-binary representation.
However we have nothing to go off of besides their two appearances as to what they’re like, so probably just get a -stripe suffix. Or we could do -claw or even -fang to help them stand out more. Cause we have Nightclaw and eventually their brother who is for sure getting -claw.
And I’m sure the kits would’ve been fantastic hunters too if they weren’t in fights 24/7.
So either Firestripe or Firefang
Tigerkit
No naming after his name has to go but-
Tigerkit is the most important of the three as he is what the Prophecy was actually about! Yes Starkit was going to kill her newborn son to save the forest!
…yeah
So we get his birth, he’s kidnapped and raised to be evil in the matter of minutes. He is seen beating up Tigerstar for… training I guess. He’s also married his (half) Aunt, Rainstar.
He also helps kill his brother after being hit once by Tigerstar, and then he’s beamed away by Starkit II.
Yeah not much to say about him. He’s important, but like everyone else he’s flat as hell. But what we do see is him being dedicated to the evil cats whose motives I still don’t know, and he’s a good fighter to make Tigerstar be bloody and exhausted.
Now finding something similar to Tiger- was… difficult. Since Starkit the First is a religious fanatic Nightclaw is relatively the same in that regard and wouldn’t want a lot named after the big Three. So finding something similar was hard.
But the Tiger in the Iterum religion is best described as the sky… if I remembered that correctly god. And Dusk- fits a dark brown tabby cat! So Dusk- he becomes.
Though he doesn’t fight being kidnapped.
Either way, I’m giving him -claw. Despite the absurdity of it all, he’s a good fighter, the best of his siblings from the looks of it all. I would almost budge and go -heart, but it took a magical beam to eradicate him and also suffix naming hierarchy puts skills over top of personality.
So the final one of the litter, Duskclaw.

I just binged Love What is Mortal in two days and I just want to say - you're an amazing writer, the way you were able to weave a story that not only fits into the warriors universe, but expands on things we'll probably never learn in canon in a way that makes sense (also it was definitely better written than any of the newer books, plz take over for the Erins) is amazing. I really hope we get more warriors content from you in the future!
I do have a couple of questions though if that's ok?
Generally speaking, what's the time frame of Love What is Mortal? If I recall correctly Leafpool mentioned the flooding from Bramblestar's Storm in one of the earlier chapters and it ends with Juniperkit and Dandelionkit meeting Hollyleaf so I'm guessing it ends right at the beginning of AVoS or a little before the beginning?
I feel like it was heavily hinted that Ashfur either went to the mortal realm and started the whole Bramble possession arc, or went to whatever exists outside of starclans itself (likely the place where Jake resides.) I did see in one of the asks you answered that Mudclaw would still be hunting Ashfur down, so I'm just curious if we'd ever get maybe a novella or a snippet of that scenario depending on where Ashfur went exactly? Or maybe if not a fic to read, would you be willing to explain what might have occurred?
The last thing I'll ask right now is about Patchkit and Larchkit, are they still with Appledusk? Or was Petalkit implying they faded away? I thought it was probable it was the former, but reading about how many kits get left without families or kin around because they are still waiting for closure or something that will help them move on, made me think perhaps those two were able to move on after spending time with their father whereas Petalkit chose not to stay with him.
Again, I really love your work!! You deserve a good break and some good food. Make sure to drink water and rest! Sorry if all these questions have been answered or are a bit much, feel free to not answer them if you don't want to!
You binged it in TWO DAYS? I'm impressed! LWIM is 226,638 words, which according to the website Wordcounter is the equivalent of 503 pages. You're freaking awesome!
Thank you for the nice words! LWIM really was a passion project for me. It's fun to take the afterlife of warrior cats and expand on it, seeing as it's so ripe with potential. I'm glad you enjoyed the story, and I'd be happy to answer your questions!
You're right as to the timing: it ends a little bit before the beginning of AVoS.
You might be wondering how Ashfur's shenanigans factor into that timeline. As of the end of LWIM, he escaped from Starclan. Now, he's out galavanting somewhere in the greater afterlife. Neither Sorreltail nor Mudclaw are particularly interested in letting him get away, but I think they'll meet some resistance from some of Starclan on that.
As for Ashfur, he's going to try to stir up trouble for Starclan. He knows what he wants to do, he just has to figure out how. In one of the latter chapters, he taunted to Hollyleaf about the plans he has for Squirrelflight and Bramblestar.
If I were to write a sequel or short story, it would probably take place not long after LWIM, and follow all the way through into TBC. Sorreltail would be the POV character, on a quest to track down her half-brother. Mudlcaw would undoubtably be involved, but as to what capacity, I'm not sure. If they can get along, a Mudclaw & Sorreltail dual-investigation might be fun. I think Sparrowfeather would make an appearance in this, as location-wise he would probably be somewhere in the broken remnants of the PONS.
You're right on the money with Patchkit and Larchkit. They stayed with Appledusk until they were able to make peace with their own lives and with what happened with Mapleshade. They have long since faded away. On the other hand, Petalkit disliked Appledusk so much that she ran away and never found closure with him or herself. She's not in a great place at the end of LWIM. For all intents and purposes, she feels abandoned by pretty much everyone: Mapleshade, for making reckless choices that bound her for an eternity to the PONS instead of Starclan; Appledusk, for his presumed infidelity and perceived lack of interest in being a parent to her in the mortal realm; Patchkit and Larchkit, for not agreeing with her revulsion of Appledusk and finding peace without her; and Snowfur, who she has a lot of mixed feelings for. THAT one is a whole can of worms that she'll have to sort through.
Now Petalkit is with Hollyleaf. It's what Mapleshade would've wanted: someone trustworthy watching over her.
Perhaps, Mapleshade wouldn't have had qualms with Sorreltail watching over her too, but that might be a little too painful for our calico protagonist. The death of Honeyfern is very fresh for her, and after all, she still has work to do.
Thank you SO much for reading my story, and for sending an ask!

30, 19, and 5?
30. What drawing are you least proud of? How can you improve it?
this iconic piece. id love to redraw it one day, im very proud of how firestar came out but sandstorm and dustpelt always looked wonky to me. the anatomy is still really well done but id want to 'smooth' out and add more fluidity to the movements id also add a better background/minimal backgrounds. and alot of the designs have been changed completely like my brokenstar, tigerclaw and sandstorm. overall all my old art id re-draw and add too. alot of my hypo kit art i do not care for.
19. Where do you think kittypets/rogues/loners go when they die? StarClan? Dark forest? Somewhere else? Explain
i think canonically they're ghosts? even though darktail and his allies were spotted and killed in the darkforest... i dont know. overall I like the idea of kittypets being ghosts so they can haunt their owners, but i think itd be better if they just ceased to exist.
I also have the idea that kittens that die should not be sent to Starclan-instead they're just reborn, especially kittens who were stillborn or died only after a few days like finchkit, flickerkit, juniperkit/dandelionkit, nightkit, mistkit etc etc.)
5. Who was your first oc?
cat named 'Maplestripe' or 'Mapleeye' and she was created way before i even knew of mapleshade.

How beautiful and sad, check out this traditionally painted piece of the legend herself Squirrelflight. This piece depicts Squirrelflight surrounded by burning flowers, which the original author gave meaning for in their post. If you want to know exactly what flowers are depicted here and what they mean in regard to Squirrelflight I recommend you check out the original post. But in general, I have to agree that Squirrelflight has one of the hardest lives in the Warriors series. She lost so much in regard to her emotions and her family members. Of course she still has her two kits, her mate (somewhat) and grandchildren along with her nephews and their kits but most of her immediate family are gone. She lost her father Firestar to the Great Battle and her mother Sandstorm to the journey to discover Skyclan again. She lost her sister Leafpool to a rock slide. Her niece and adopted daughter Hollyleaf died in the Great Battle. Her two kits Dandelionkit and Juniperkit passed away when they were extremely young. She lost her mate Bramblestar for a time and had to suffer through his abuse and destroyed mental health in the most recent book. Her adopted kits Jayfeather & Lionblaze hated her for a time and wouldn’t speak to her. Her ex mate Ashfur went intense and almost destroyed the clans in her name, not to mention he abused her when she thought he was her mate. Many of her friends no longer speak to her, like Crowfeather, Tawnypelt, Stormfur, Daisy, etc. Overall she had an extremely difficult and tiring life and it’s honestly amazing she came out the other side okay. I honestly love this character and I’m so happy that she is getting more attention in the fandom and in the more recent books. Squirrelflight for the win! But what do you think? Do you think there was a cat who suffered more than Squirrelflight? Do you think she deserves all the attention she’s been getting? Leave all your thoughts in the comments below. While you are at it, consider leaving a like on the original post as support like that motivates artists to continue creating which gives us more content to post. okay please tell me who pushed who down that hill i wanna know
OK HI YEAHH thrushpaw (oswald) pushed cinnamonpaw (chuck) down the hill (its more of a cliff? but i keep on flipping the terms cuz idk what to call it)
(everything is undercut cuz i kinda got rambly sorry)
thrushpaw has been seeing this dead cat named rabbitstar (mix of pittrap and faz frights will afton) from the moment hes been apprenticed and is made to train in the "dark forest" (kitty cat hell) in his dreams, and aspenpaw (astrid from nexie, you dont know her) has been seeing this "imaginary" friend from kithood called dandelionkit (the nexie doll) and since shes thrushpaws age and they only trust eachother to keep this a secret (cuz the other guy training in there is a middle aged medic whos nuts)
a since aspenpaw is from shadowclan, cinnamonpaw has overheard their meetings of them talking about it and w the other apprentices is making jokes like "haha not as bad as training in the dark forest", just think of it as accidently stealing 100 billion dollars and your friend keeps going "its almost like you stole 100 billion dollars" but your being made to be a murder machine by a really old dead guy in your dreams
cinnamonpaw and thrushpaw USED to be close but because of this situation kinda stopped talking for abit, thrushpaw then asks cinnamonpaw to meet up someplace at night to make it more secretive and cinnamonpaw chooses the most random place that thrushpaw has never been too, a short cliff ish thing
the converstation is just like "hi yeah can you not do that" "but weve been friends for awhile!! you should have told me" and it esculates to thrushpaw getting so mad he pushes cinnamonpaw off a cliff, but since thrushpaw doesnt know this location he doesnt know its actually MUCH higher and has spikey rocks underneith (rabbitstar tells him "congrats you killed someone" and thrushpaw tells him to fuck off)
that morning cinnamonpaws body is found by foxflip (pete), aspenpaw and nettlethroat (millie) and foxflip is PISSED because the day before he lost an eye (but thats another storyline dw about it)
TLDR: cinnamonpaw (chuck) keeps telling the other preteens jokes about training in kitty cat hell because he overheard thrushpaw (oswald) and aspenpaw (astrid) talking about it and they go have a convo at night at some place thrushpaw never has been too and it esculates where thrushpaw thinks it would be save to push him and get him minor bruishing or something and he managed to accidently break his back on those rocks leading his brother to find his body along w aspenpaw .. whoops
now cinnamonpaw watches him at the starclan (kitty cat heaven) border sorrowly while thrushpaw is out there being taught to fight

I present a little one-shot :)
(Author's Note: this is based on an au where Bramblestar died after the events of TBC and Squirrelflight promptly took over as leader)
Two cats were climbing up a stone hill under a rising moon that was waxing close to full. When they reached the top they paused, gazing first at the moon and then at the pool of water shining with moonlight in the hollow in front of them. The cats' shades of ginger were tinted silver in the night.
They were both silent for a moment before the smaller of the two cats spoke. "Are you sure you're ready for this, Squirrelflight?" His mew sounded tired. "A lot has happened. I doubt Thunderclan would resent you for needing a little more time to recover."
The second cat, much fluffier and a brighter orange, heaved a sigh. "I'll be fine, Alderheart." She lightly brushed her tail over his haunch. "And you know as well as I do that I don't really have the time to grieve right now. Jayfeather can manage with the vigil."
They were referring to Bramblestar, of course. Though they had managed to retrieve his spirit after Ashfur had imprisoned him and taken over his body for several moons, the stress had proven too much for their late leader to bear. Bramblestar had died in his sleep one night shortly after the Lights In The Mist had returned from the Dark Forest. Jayfeather had assured her that his passing had been peaceful, but Squirrelflight still felt an aching guilt over what was lost.
"Well, we had better start soon then." Alderheart stepped closer to the Moonpool and Squirrelflight followed. She could understand why he would want to change the subject; Bramblestar had been his father, too. "Lie down here and touch your nose to the water." Squirrelflight followed his instructions as Alderheart did the same.
As Squirrelflight fell into sleep, the stone hollow around her disappeared and she found herself standing in a bright, starry clearing of flowers and ferns. Alderheart sat next to her, a sudden calmness about him; she glanced at him and he blinked reassuringly.
Mist swirled around the clearing as starry cats began to step into the clearing; Squirrelflight felt joy mixed with sorrow to recognize some of her old friends among the ranks. Shrewpaw, her childhood best friend who had died in the old forest; Feathertail, who waved her tail excitedly in greeting as she passed by; her parents, Firestar and Sandstorm; Dandelionkit and Juniperkit, her beloved children gone too soon; and at the lead of the ranks was her dear sister Leafpool. The auburn tabby's eyes were bright as she padded up to Squirrelflight, her tail held high.
"Hello, and welcome, Squirrelflight," Leafpool mewed warmly when the two sisters were standing nose to nose. "We've been expecting you. I'm sorry for all that you've been through in these last moons." Touching her nose to Squirrelflight's, she continued, "With this life I give you the gift of patience. Seeds don't bud overnight. Use this gift to allow youth to grow gentle yet resilient." Squirrelflight felt a deep peace wash over her, and Leafpool dipped her head and returned to the ranks.
The next cat to step up was a black molly, her eyes a bright green. Hollyleaf, who Squirrelflight had raised as though she had been one of her own kits. "With this life I give you insight," she mewed. "Use it to better understand the intentions of others so that you can use your fairest judgment." The two cats touched noses and Squirrelflight felt a jolt of energy like lightning, followed by the feeling of calm after heavy rain. Hollyleaf blinked at her. "I never got to thank you," she murmured. "You were like a mother to me, and you risked so much so that I could have a good life. I'll never forget that." Squirrelflight's heart ached with joy as Hollyleaf returned to the ranks next to Leafpool.
Squirrelflight raised her tail in surprise at the next cat to walk into the center of the clearing; Purdy, the old tabby that she and Bramblestar had met on their journey to the sun-drown-place many seasons ago. "Hey there, youngster," he meowed heartily. "Were you worried you'd never see me again?" There was a glint of amusement in the old cat's eyes as he continued. "For this life I give you laughter. In your darkest times it's still important to find some joy in your life." They touched noses and for a moment Squirrelflight felt like a kit playing mossball again. Smiling, Purdy added "Good job, kiddo." before dipping his head and stepping back among the ranks.
Larksong was the next cat, his black coat now glossy and showing no sign of the illness that had taken his life a few seasons ago. "With this life I give you the gift of acceptance. Sometimes whatever happens may be out of your control, but you can still continue to move forward." There was a somber, quiet confidence in this life as Larksong touched Squirrelflight's nose to grant it.
"Sparkpelt misses you so much," she mewed quietly.
"I know. I'll be waiting here for her and our kits." Larksong's eyes glittered with sorrow as he turned back to the ranks.
Squirrelflight felt a pang of grief at the next cat to approach; Flickerkit, one of Sparkpelt and Larksong's kits. "With this life I give you the gift of hope," he mewed. The kit was so small that Squirrelflight had to lean down for him to touch her nose. She felt a sparkling radiance from this life before Flickerkit skittered back to sit with his father.
Rosepetal padded up next, her starry coat tinted pink. "With this life I give you the gift of confidence. Lead Thunderclan with the same sureness that you showed to me as my mentor." This life felt like floating along on a steady, gentle current.
Sandstorm was next. "I'm proud of you," she mewed. Purring softly, she continued, "With this life I give you the gift of guidance. Help your clan to do the right thing as though they were your own kits." Squirrelflight felt a warmth like the sunlight with this life.
Firestar appeared next, touching noses with Sandstorm as she passed to return to the ranks. "With this life I give you the gift of intuition, to follow your heart so that you may know what is right." As they touched noses, Squirrelflight felt her pelt crackle as though lightning could strike at any moment. When her pelt smoothed again Firestar blinked at her affectionately and sat in the ranks next to Sandstorm.
The last cat to step into the clearing was Bramblestar. Squirrelflight felt grief tear through her to see him here again; he had only been dead for a day but she felt like she had lost him so many seasons ago.
Bramblestar's eyes were solemn. "With this life I give you the gift of integrity," he meowed. "Remember that whatever happens, the cats of Thunderclan still have each other and should be able to trust one another." Squirrelflight tried not to notice Leafpool and Hollyleaf narrowing their eyes in the ranks as Bramblestar touched his nose to hers; this life came with a feeling of bitterness, smoothed over by sunlight finally poking out of overcast clouds. Bramblestar bowed his head and turned back toward the ranks.
"Wait," Squirrelflight mewed hoarsely. "Don't you have anything else to say to me at all?"
Bramblestar looked over his shoulder, his eyes apologetic. "Do better than me," he mewed reluctantly. Bramblestar padded away and took his place among the ranks and Squirrelflight tried her hardest not to let her tail droop.
Leafpool twitched her ears irritably but quickly regained her composure. "Squirrelflight, you are now the appointed leader of Thunderclan. Starclan have given you our approval. Lead your clan well and remember the gifts that we have given you. From this moment forward you will be known as Squirrelstar."
"Squirrelstar! Squirrelstar! Squirrelstar! Squirrelstar!"
The ranks of Starclan were still cheering her name as Squirrelstar drifted back into the waking world at the edge of the Moonpool.
Sitting up, Squirrelstar felt a new inner strength that she hadn't had that morning. But the mixed feeling of grief and guilt was still there and Bramblestar's strangely formal words had stung her like nettles.
Alderheart was stirring beside her; he sat up and the two cats sat by the Moonpool in silence for a few moments. Still neither cat spoke as they left the stone hollow and began their trek back down the moor.
They hadn't quite reached the Windclan border when Alderheart finally broke the silence. "Are you okay?" he asked quietly. "You seemed a bit....tense."
Squirrelstar hesitated; she didn't want to involve her kits in problems that she had with Bramblestar, but she didn't want to be dishonest either. "I thought he might be more welcoming," she said slowly. "He seems to still be distant, even in Starclan."
Alderheart paused by the border. "Maybe he doesn't have much to say."
Squirrelstar paused beside him. "Surely he had something to say," she insisted. "He was unable to reach me at all for moons. He said he was glad to be back before he died. Why would he have nothing else to say now?"
Alderheart eyed her steadily, his eyes narrowed to slits. "Squirrelstar. I don't think this is actually about the ceremony. Is it?"
Squirrelstar twitched her tail irritably. No, she realized. It wasn't just about what Bramblestar had said — about what he hadn't said — to her at the nine lives ceremony. There was something else, something that had been gnawing at her for a long time. But that was something for another day. For now she had a clan to lead.
Squirrelstar gave herself a shake to clear her mind. Then she looked at Alderheart again. "Come on," she mewed. "Let's go home. Thunderclan is waiting for us."

this is from u/nugssssssssssssssss on reddit:
to start with tnp, there is nothing in it that points to or would end up as abuse or manipulation. it was all friendly banter and petty disputes over small things that would amount to nothing. aka 90% of apprentice fights. all except one thing at the beginning where squilp blackmails bramble into letting her go with him on the starclan given journey. this isn't stormfur to feathertail where they're inseparable siblings, but one bratty apprentice that follows around a young warrior that has lots of mental trauma from his bastard father being gutted right in front of him to him growing up in a clan that he had to work twice as hard to get respect in.
PoT is second and the only thing here is the end. sunrise pg 307 "Why?" "I had to! She's my sister!" "And you couldn't trust me?" The words echoed. "And you couldn't trust me, don't you think I would have helped you, if you told me the truth? But it's too late now." he was rightfully pissed off here, as a lie that big and important to a family/relationship is.
OotS just has a few parts, that are all just Brambles walking away from squilf when she tries to do anything with him, or him treating her as if the only past she had with him was the journey, as he was still recovering from being betrayed like that. The Last Hope pg 328 where he chooses her a deputy proves he has forgiven her, though he will forever be hurt by it. "Squirrelflight." "Really?" "There is no cat I trust more."
In sqh i admit he's no angel, as with squilf. but most of the parts are understandable from his pov, and the readers. She brings up kits a couple times after he said no because running a clan is hard enough, and he doesn't want kits clouding his decisions as that would heavily sway them, and he wants best for the clan. Squilf also multiple times undermines him, when a deputy is supposed to still be under their leader, and not in charge of everything. He loves squilf but sometimes even questions that, which is unnecessary as he should know he loves her very much, and vice versa. some points from this are pg 382 "Why am I here? Am I going to die?" Bramblestar's scent still lingered on her tongue. "I want to go back!"
This shows that she still loves him and (obviously) she wants to go back to him and the rest of Thunderclan. pg 383 "I don't care what happens. I need to go back and make things right with my clan, and Bramblestar. My kits are there."
pg 385 "Tell Dandelionkit and Juniperkit that I'll be back, and when Bramblestar comes we'll be a family." pg 391 "Don't be sorry. Don't be sorry for anything. I was so worried. I love you so much. We should have never let things get so bad. I'll never let it happen again." and on the final page, 416, "I'm glad we're not arguing anymore."
"So am I. I don't know what I would've done if you'd died. I don't think I could've gone on without you."
"Of course you could have. Your clan needs you. I know you would never let them down."
"I'm only strong because of you. Promise me we'll never argue like that again. That we'll always talk things out before they get too bad."
"You have to trust me, you must always know that you and Thunderclan are the most important things to me. I would never let you down." (Rick Astley fades in from the background)
"I know, and I'm sorry I ever doubted you. Ever since you were an apprentice you've challenged me. And it's always made me stronger. You've helped me see things in a different way."
they made up, all is well. presumably in the few moons separating sqh and TBC their relationship became even better to when they first were mates. don't feel like i need to mention this but there's no way in hell i'm counting impostor as brambles, primarily because… well... it isn't
You know the very thing I hate about this community is how much it chucks around the word abusive. As someone who is close to a lot of people who have been through/are going through abusive relationships. It's pretty sickening that it's now used as a buzzword/weapon against ships they don't like. Now it feels like it means "these couples disagreed at some point and argued. Therefore abusive." Which is dangerous. Squirrel and Bramble are just that. A couple who have gone through a... lot of rough patches. But to call Brambleclaw abusive is fucking insane. Brambleclaw doesn't isolate Squirrel from her friends. He doesn't hit her. He respects her boundaries Just because they argue doesn't make him abusive. And I'll be honest, after all Bramble has gone through. (Basfard father, intimacy issues, most of the cats he was close to turned on him, or died, his kits didn't turn out to be his, one of them died, the kits that WERE his half of them died.) I think he has a bit of a right to be like. "Uhh, no I'm not having more kits." And honestly if the roles were shifted, squirrelflight being asked by Brambleclaw to have kits. They still would've called Bramble abusive for trying to pressure her into it. Like holy shit this community sometimes.
Millie yelled at blossomfall one time for doing something stupid and risking her life? Why that's abuse and makes her a terrible mother of course! Squilfpaw blackmails bramble? Why that's perfectly fine! Probably Bramble’s fault!
‘People who claim “squirrelflight’s hope didn’t happen” or “it’s not abuse”, are just finding excuses.’
First off yes I’d like to believe SqH didn’t happen though I know it did. I’m not “just finding excuses” by believing that it isn’t abuse. I legitimately believe that it isn’t abuse at all.
‘It’s clear as day he uses mental abuse in this super edition. Bringing up the kits argument time and time again just to make her upset when things aren’t going his way, claiming she doesn’t love him just to make sure she follows him to show she does love him, claiming she has to follow his every step if she wants to be a good mate/deputy and basically can’t have any opinion of her own.’
He brings up the kits part when she brings it up, and once or twice more. It isn’t anything big. She brings it up twice, in the heat of arguments at that. He is genuinely thinking in these times that she may not love him, although we all know and even deep inside he knows that isn’t trie. It’s a lot of weight in his shoulders being leader, and a deputy that denies every order outright may worsen it. He never says anything about “claiming she has to follow his every step if she wants to be a good mate/deputy” although a deputy is not above a leader, so the deputy does have to follow the leader still. Sure it’s sometimes better to go against the leaders words in dire or important situations, but squilf does it at basically every right and left. He obviously allows her to have an opinion.
‘Dismissing her feelings time and time again, etc. This, this is clearly abuse. You don’t have to had this happen to you to notice that. If the victim feels like she could die and her hesband wouldn’t care, than you must know there’s something wrong right? Like how many times didn’t Squirrel think that if she died, Bramble would just forget about her and take a new mate? This is not a healthy relationship at this point.’
He never dismisses her feelings, just doesn’t fully take them into account. He has to still have at least a portion of the populations support with things, or else it would be another Rowanstar. I have been through abuse my whole life, from emotional, mental, and even sexual abuse for a short period. I have been through it all and nothing of the sort comes up here. Once again like Bramble earlier, if she died, he would care. He even stated that he wouldn’t know if he would be able to go on being leader without her. He would never forget her and never take a new mate. I don’t know where on earth you got that from. Sure it’s not a perfect relationship in SqH, anyone can see that, but it’s definitely a realistic one. It is one of if not the most relatable and realistic relationships in the series.
There are many things that people don’t take into account like actuality, logic, (brambles) emotions, stress, etc.
Sure there are abusive tendencies on both sides but tendencies don’t always mean that they’re going to be/are ~~~. Example: Not every kid that hurts animals and likes fires are going to be a serial killer. It’s a very slim chance still, and many grow through what they do and regret it later on. At the end of SqH they made up, and as much as we know have had no problems since, well, between the two of them. cough Ashfur Possession cough

the moon glows softly tonight, my dear
When Squirrelflight’s kits are born, Hollyleaf is thrilled for all of two heartbeats.
The dark red kit is strong-looking, big like his father; the molly with a pelt of flame squirms across the former’s back, mewling as loudly as her little lungs can manage in the dim light of the nursery. But then there’s the remaining two: a pale, pale ginger who’s little more than a scrap of fur and a dark tabby who looks more dead than alive. Hollyleaf’s ears pin back at the sight, thinking desperately about the injustice of it all — how fair was it, to have Squirrelflight’s first litter spend half their lives hating her, and then for two of her second litter to die?
When she meets Squirrelflight’s gaze, she sees a similar thought reflected back: my kits are dying, and there’s nothing I can do. “Alderkit, Sparkkit, Dandelionkit, and Juniperkit,” she says instead, brushing her tail over each one. If there’s hesitation as she indicates the latter two, Hollyleaf doesn’t comment; instead, she huddles close to her mother and stares desperately down at the too-small, too-weak kits.
“They won’t die,” Hollyleaf says without thinking.
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep,” Squirrelflight whispers.
“They can’t—” Hollyleaf’s voice breaks off. Jayfeather and Leafpool are gone; Squirrelflight’s kits had been born too early and too late all at the same moment. Squirrelflight had begun kitting nearly a quarter moon early and soon after the medics had left for the Moonpool — unexpected on every count. Hollyleaf, standing in for her mother as deputy, had sent Rosepetal, Molewhisker, and even Sandstorm — the fastest cat of her generation, and still quick on her paws seasons past — barrelling toward the Moonpool, but the journey was far and their paws, while swift, were not swift enough for the birth. Or the aftermath.
Hollyleaf and Brightheart, with what little healer’s training they possessed, had done their best; but Juniperkit was barely moving, even with tongues grooming his fur the wrong way and every chewed-up herb the two she-cats could think of placed on his tiny pink tongue. StarClan, please, Hollyleaf prays as she stares at the herbs and dried berries at her paws. I know I have done everything wrong. But Squirrelflight does not deserve this unkindness. Help me! I’m begging you!

Uhh used to have an au where Pinestar took Tigerkit when he left (ig he told Sunfall he was leaving and stole Tigerkit in the night?)
Anyways, Tiger, ends up like a father figur to Rusty, and leaves to join the clan with him. Bluestar and some of the other cats recognize Tiger, so that gives him and Firepaw more credibility. Also Tiger keeps Dustpaw and Sandpaw from bullying too much.
I had him still turn evil in the au, but honestly that's optional
this is awesome!! i made a similar au recently ! this ones cool tho.. hmm i think i mightve gotten some of these events out of order but whatever itll still make some sense i hope - pinestar taught tigerkit to be more chill and kind than evil and mean like he is canonically -tiger pushes this onto rusty who is less brave and more chill - i think tiger should stay not evil sooo darkstripe and brokenstar r the big bad guys - tiger becomes tigerpride, firepaw is still firepaw and gets apprentices to tigerpride - ravenpaw is apprenticed 2 darkstripe . darkstripe kills redtail but notices ravenpaw and tries to kill him with poison . dark hears some1 coming so he runs away be4 who ever this is finds him - the cat who finds raven is whitestorm, who went out to look 4 darks patrol cuz hes taking a while to beat up those riverclan cats - spottedleaf notices raven was poisoned so shes a little suspicious of dark -ravenpaw still goes to live with barley - brokenstar still drives out windclan, spotted still gets bonked by clawface. - firepaw -> fireheart - yellowfang joins. cinderpaw still gets bonked by the car - fireheart and greystripe bring back windclan like normal - swiftpaw and brightpaw live. they still go out to fight the dogs tho, which was planned by darkstripe. they live because tigerpride, fireheart and longtail save them. - swift and bright r still very injured (brightpaw got the face injury, swiftpaw got one of his legs bitten off) but theyre alive. bluestars not nuts anymore so they dont get bad names. after they are healed, bluestar names them swiftspine and brightgaze. - brindleface dies, runningwind lives, gorsepaw lives. - darktries to kill brackenpaw with poison (sorrelkit style). tiger catches him. darkstripe is exiled and makes a little band of bad guys with a bunch of shadowclan cats and rouges - darkstripe announces himself as shadowclans new leader (darkstar) - uhhh lionheart died at some point tigerpride is the new deputy - darkstar schemes with riverclan and bloodclan -bluestar dies with fireheart, tigerpride and her kits by her side -tigerprides goes 2 moonstone and gets his 9 lives - stonefur almost gets killed by blackfoot but lives (barely). - pretty much the same thing happened with the battle agaist bloodclan but replace tigerstar with darkstar - after tigerstar dies much later on and firestar becomes leader. bramblestar never becomes leader in this au because i dont like him. other stuff: - tawnypaw stays. shes named tawnycall and bramblepaw is named bramblespike. - gorsepaw lives like i said and is named gorseheart. after tallstars death he leads windclan instead of onestar - tigerstar has secret kits with sasha. he wants to keep them but knows itll proooobably be too obvious if he keeps them cuz hawkkit looks so much like him. he gives them to riverclan and greypool takes care of them (stonefur is a brother figure to hawk and moth) hawk isnt evil, but moth still becomes a med cat for reasons unknown. she just felt like it . - leafpool still has kits but trusts tigerstar enough that she asks if she can tell the clan the truth, but hand them to another queen to be raised. he agrees - squilf doesnt have kits with bramble. she still has her kits but with another cat (idk who it would be). dandelionkit and juniperkit live. this is really long im SO SORRY you just gave me many ideas

The Barn AU
So, I’ll be honest with you this AU kind of came out of no where but I’m... kind of in love with it now.
This AU pretty much destroys canon from the very beginning.
Into The Wild goes as planned except Sandstorm and Dustpelt become warriors alongside Graystripe and Fireheart. Also Sandstorm isn’t nearly as cruel to Fireheart and Graystripe and while Ravenpaw runs away it’s made clear Fire/Gray/Sand/Raven are a thing.
Fire and Ice is when we begin really changing shit. Brackenkit and Cinderkit stay kits who aren’t apprenticed to early. Graystripe still falls in love with Silverstream but he ropes Fireheart and Sandstorm into it so we get Fire/Gray/Sand/Silver.
With two of their partners in places where they can’t date them while still in Thunderclan, Fire, Gray, and Sand come up with the idea of moving into the barn with Raven and Barley. They of course invite Silverstream who longs for adventure outside of the clans and wants to be with her partners.
So everyone separates from the clans and moves into the barn. We work into a full polycule with Fire/Gray/Sand/Silver/Raven/Barley and it becomes clear Sand and Silver are pregnant with Fire and Gray’s kits respectively
Silver still dies while kitting, going into unexpected labor while out with Gray, Fire and Barley. Sand gives birth to her kits at the same time while in the barn with Raven but obviously she lives and Sand and Raven don’t find out Silver is dead until the others return.
Sand nurses Featherkit, Stormkit, Squirrelkit, Streamkit (Leafkit who was named after Silverstream rather then Leafstar who doesn’t exist in this au or fucking Spottedleaf) and eventually Cloudkit who Fireheart receives from Princess after visiting her just as he does in Forest of Secrets.
Tigerclaw does the dog thing but he does it without getting exiled from Thunderclan. Then he tries attacking Bluestar and Bluestar fucking kills him, putting the problem to rest so no one has to worry about it. Though he could also have been killed by Scouge while trying to make a deal or something. Admittedly, it doesn’t really matter. Point is, bitch is dead.
Featherpaw is still called on the journey, sneaking out after receiving prophetic dreams. Her siblings all end up following her and long story short, Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt end up getting stuck on a journey to the ocean with six apprentices.
Sharptooth isn’t a thing because I say so and as such no one dies on the journey. Though at some point Featherpaw does get some pretty severe injuries (maybe from trying to catch a hawk with the prey-hunters or something).
Stormpaw and Brook (who is also younger in this au) fall in love like in canon but instead of Storm moving in with Brook, Brook comes with Storm to the barn to stay with him.
Crowpaw and Featherpaw fall for each other and when the group gets back Crowpaw decides to join the other apprentices in the barn (it’s not like Windclan ever treated him particularly well anyway). The polycule welcomes him and gives everyone warrior names (Crow is insistent on the Feather suffix cuz he’s a fucking sap).
Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt are the ones who handle convincing the clans they gotta leave and like in the new prophecy (pretty sure it’s in Dawn) the clan cats stay in the barn for a few nights to prepare for the full journey.
When the clan cats leave a few stay behind. Dustpelt and Ferncloud along with Birchkit, Larchkit, and Hollykit (because they’re afraid for their kits survival on the journey as they should be and Dustpelt doesn’t want to leave his best friend and brother behind). Shrewtail (Shrewpaw who lived from the accident with the pheasant he’s just got a messed up leg, think Cinderpelt but a front leg) because well, his parents are staying with his younger siblings and he’s infatuated with Squirrelflight. Lostface (the dog incident happens but Fireheart isn’t wasn’t there to rename her), Swiftscar (he lived the attack but he’s fucking covered in scars and he’s missing a tail and leg) who both find themselves enamored with Cloudtail and their daughter Whitepaw also stays. Sorretail also stays, finding interest in Streamheart.
Streamheart also learns a sufficient amount of medicine from the different medicine cats in each clan after showing interest in the subject before the clans leave.
After the clans leave things sort of just... progress slowly. Fern and Dust’s second litter all live and they have Foxleap and Icecloud once the three earn their warrior names (Birchfall ofc, Larchwing and Hollywhisker). Though Hollywhisker dies at some point just before Feathertail has Crowfeather’s kits which end up being the three and they named Hollykit after her.
Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Hollyleaf are all named and because the three prophecy isn’t rlly a thing and they were never lied to or anything they a) don’t have powers and b) Hollyleaf doesn’t die ridiculously early
Breezepelt is also born at some point to Feathertail and Crowfeather, though whether it’s with the three or a separate litter is undecided and doesn’t particularly matter. Either way in this one he’s not nearly as much of a dick.
Birchfall and Whitewing have Dovekit and Ivykit together.
Graystripe meets Millie who moves with her housefolk somewhere nearby and she gets intergrated into the polycule where they eventually have Bumblekit, Blossomkit, and Briarkit
Stormfur and Brook have Larkkit, Breezekit, Pinekit, and Featherkit (unlike the other similar names this isn’t done because Feathertail is dead. Storm just really loves his sister).
Shrewtail and Squirrelflight have Alderkit, Juniperkit, Dandelionkit, and Sparkkit (and no one dies)
Lostface and Cloudtail have Amberkit, Snowkit and Dewkit.
Streamheart also passes down the information on herbs she gained meaning that many of the cats understand it (Lostface and Swiftscar also help having been locked in the medicine cat den for quite awhile).
Alderheart also finds Twigkit and Violetkit at some point but they’re just kits who were abandoned that he takes in to raise (maybe with Velvet though I don’t know enough about her to confidently add that in).
Essentially the barn cats sort of just grow on their own and become a group a bit like the sisters in that every cat sort of acts like the kits parents. They let in outsiders freely and it’s sort of it’s own peaceful little society. Because of the peace there’s little death and carnage as well so cats live for long periods of time (Ravenpaw’s cancer is a myth here, it doesn’t exist, begone angst).
