Police are urgently searching for a man after two women were shot dead and a 1-year-old boy was abducted in Washington State before possibly fleeing toward the Mexico border on Monday, authorities said.
Elias Huizar, 39, a former police officer, is “armed and considered dangerous, and is likely to commit more crimes,” Washington State Patrol said. He was due to appear in court on Monday on charges of child rape, according to KNDU, NBC News’ affiliate in the Tri-Cities Area.
Police identified him as a person of interest after a woman was shot dead at the end of the school day at Wiley Elementary School in West Richland, in Benton County Washington.
Tumblr media
West Richland Police Department said in a statement that officers were called at 3.23 p.m. Monday and that “one adult female was pronounced deceased at the scene outside of the school.” The victim was not identified.
The shooter fled the scene and no one else was injured as the school was placed in lockdown, police said, adding that at this point it was thought to be an isolated incident.
But later on Monday night police said the body of a second woman was found at Huizar’s home after they had obtained a search warrant. No information was given about the woman except that she was “a known associate of the suspect.”
Washington State Patrol put out an amber alert for Roman Huizar, described as 2 feet in height, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Elias Huizar is described as 5ft 6in with brown hair and brown eyes and was driving a Silver 2009 Toyota Corolla. The alert said he was “possibly headed to Mexico” and urged anyone who sees him to call 911.
The relationship between Huizar and the missing child was not immediately clear.
He appeared in court on Feb. 15 accused with child rape, where a lawyer entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
Court documents seen by KNDU said that Huizar is alleged to have sexually assaulted a teenager while she was sleeping in his home in February this year. This was witnessed and reported by another teenager, the documents say.
No-contact orders were issued for the alleged victims in the case, who were described as teenagers, meaning Huizar can’t go within 1,000 feet of their schools, homes or workplaces, or have any contact with minors under 16.
Prosecuting attorney Anita Petra told the February hearing that this order would ban contact between Huizar and his own child.
The Yakima Police Department told KNDU that Huizar was an officer there from 2013 to 2022.

520 ARRIVED TODAY FROM WASHINGTON
627 MORE EVACUEES DUE ON SATURDAY
The arrival of 520 evacuees from Yakima Valley aboard a special 12-car train swelled the ever-growing population of the North Portland Assembly Center to an off cial[sic] figure of 3052. The trains reached here at approximately 6:00 a.m., one hour behind schedule, bringing evacuees from Wapato, Wenatchee, and Kennewick, Washington. The newcomers were greeted by several hundred early birds, who managed to forgo a few winks. The new arrivals got off the train by families and filed through the gate into the building to register and receive instructions before proceeding to their new quarters. Soldiers that accompanied the special train helped to carry small packages of the elderly evacuees as well as aid them in getting off the train. While the new arrivals were getting acquainted with the environment a crow of volunteer workers unloaded the baggage onto the platform. The population figures are slated for another boost tomorrow with the arrival of approximately 628 evacuees from Yakima, Toppenish, and Wapato, Washington. The Yakima Valley contingent of 528 is expected to reach here by a special train by 6:00 a.m., while another aggregation of  a 100 from Lyle, Washington is due here via bus sometime in the afternoon.

BE PREPARED
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law
To help other people at all times
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
The scout oath, watchword of a million American Boy Scouts.  Words familiar to millions of other follow Americans.  The Boy Scouts of America, the admiration of a nation.
Here as well as else where, the boy scout perform their daily duty of service in a typical scout manner.
In this center, the boy scouts carry on with their duty, being prepared whenever the need arises.  Being of service to the entire center in every possible way, besides their regular drum and bugle practices.  Each morning the boy scouts raise old glory to the mast; and each evening lower her to rest.  Ushering, guarding, first-aid, and numerous other lines of work are a part of the daily routine performed by the boy scouts.  From dawn to dusk, the services of the boy scouts never cease.
They need no words of praise or gratitude, for the tasks they perform are part of their duty to aid other people at all times.  And seldom are words of appreciation expressed to the boy scouts for the public knows too well that the tasks performed by them are in the line of their duty.  Without expressed words of praise of gratitude, the boy scouts carry on, knowing there is a job to be done.
To the boy scouts add our words of sincere appreciation.  The cooperative spirit of the boy scouts has proven invaluable to all of us.  That their spirits has proven invaluable to all of us.  That their spirit has proven invaluable to all of us.  That their spirit of cooperation should be a practice we must all acquire some day in the near future.  To you, we say "Thanks a Million."
MEMORIAL SERVICES
Services in commemoration of the dead which have been held annually will not be discontinued.  A joint Memorial Day service, sponsored by all the religious organizations, will be held in the Chapel, May 30, from 9 to 10 A. [in bubble letters]SCOOP.
Hello everybody!  I think I will quote a letter from a girl friend this time to show you how much they mis me on the outside.
(Quote)
My dear Stinky:
I miss you so much up here that I think I will add another boy friend to my list to make up for you Of course, honey, he can never take your place as he has money, looks, clothes, and the cutest sport coupe and stuff that you never had.  Have you still got that mop-hair full of knots?  Remember, sweet, on those full moonlight nights, when you and I used to sit under a spreading apple tree --- and untie the knots in your hair?  My goodness, it seems like a long time since you slapped me in the face and broke your hand, well, I'll always remain true to you so don't worry, and write back soon.
Lovingly yours
M. H.
(Unquote)
I guess this letter will prove to all you bums that I have some personality and from nowon[sic] please show some respect for me.  Nuff said, as I hate to talk about myself all of the time

BY THE GATE
I stood by the gate and saw them pass,
Sorrowful, yet eager and then alas,
With misty eyes and cheerful shouts,
"Be seeing you , in a month or there-abouts."
With feeling of anxiety and of aweness
I stood by the gate and saw them pass.

Stabilized version of the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film
from Wikipedia:
The Patterson–Gimlin film (also known as the Patterson film or the PGF) is an American short motion picture of an unidentified subject that the filmmakers have said was a Bigfoot. The footage was shot in 1967 in Northern California, and has since been subjected to many attempts to authenticate or debunk it. The footage was filmed alongside Bluff Creek, a tributary of the Klamath River, about 25 logging-road miles (40 km) northwest of Orleans, California, in Del Norte County on the Six Rivers National Forest. The film site is roughly 38 miles (60 km) south of Oregon and 18 miles (30 km) east of the Pacific Ocean. For decades, the exact location of the site was lost, primarily because of re-growth of foliage in the streambed after the flood of 1964. It was rediscovered in 2011. It is just south of a north-running segment of the creek informally known as "the bowling alley". The filmmakers were Roger Patterson (1933–1972) and Robert "Bob" Gimlin (born 1931). Patterson died of cancer in 1972 and "maintained right to the end that the creature on the film was real". Patterson's friend, Gimlin, has always denied being involved in any part of a hoax with Patterson. Gimlin mostly avoided publicly discussing the subject from at least the early 1970s until about 2005 ... Patterson and Gimlin both denied that they had perpetrated a hoax, but in a 1999 telephone interview with television producer Chris Packham for the BBC's The X Creatures, Gimlin said that for some time, "I was totally convinced no one could fool me. And of course I'm an older man now … and I think there could have been the possibility [of a hoax]. But it would have to be really well planned by Roger [Patterson]."
from Joe Nickell for CenterForInquiry.com
Philip Morris was born January 8, 1935, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, as Philip Morris Smith. At age eight he shortened his name and took to the stage with a magic act. ... In 1955, Morris and his wife Amy began selling theatrical supplies as a home-basement operation. One product was a gorilla suit, used especially for a popular sideshow illusion called “Girl-to-Gorilla.” (In this, Beauty is visibly metamorphosed to Beast, then suddenly lunges from the unlocked cage, stampeding spectators from the tent. ... About August 1967 (Morris recalled in a 2002 interview on Charlotte radio), he sold one of his gorilla suits to Roger Patterson, who used it in his famous hoaxed Bigfoot film on October 20 of that year. Morris informs that his suit was made in six pieces: head, body (a back-zippered fake-fur torso with arms and legs), and a pair of glove hands and latex feet. Patterson may have seen the Morris ad for gorilla suits in Amusement Business magazine, says Morris
from the Washington Post:
Bob Heironimus, a retired Pepsi bottler from Yakima, Wash., ... donned a gorilla costume and appeared in the famous grainy film clip that helped fuel the Bigfoot craze in 1967 and is studied by Bigfoot, Sasquatch and Yeti investigators to this day. "It's time people knew it was a hoax," Heironimus told us. "It's time to let this thing go. I've been burdened with this for 36 years, seeing the film clip on TV numerous times. Somebody's making lots of money off this, except for me. But that's not the issue -- the issue is that it's time to finally let people know the truth."
from Skeptical Inquirer, July/August 2004:
Moreover, several other people in the small town of Yakima have all vouched for Heironimus's story and can prove that they first heard of it shortly after the hoax was created. Heironimus claims that the Bigfoot costume was made of synthetic fur and bits of leather from a horse's hide. Patterson had added "breasts" to the chest of the Bigfoot creature. Heironimus also remembers that it contained football shoul- der pads inside it to "bulk it up," and that the head piece was, in fact, a dressed-up football helmet that had a mask attached to the front of it
In 1967, about two months before the film was made, Morris received a telephone call from Patterson: "I was the only one who was making a gorilla suit like that at that time. I knew what my gorilla suit looked like. It was brown. In the fifties and sixties, I made my gorilla suits only in brown. . . . Patterson asked me if I had a realistic-looking gorilla suit. I immediately asked him if he was a carny [carnival worker]. He said, 'No, I'm a rodeo cowboy. We're just going to have some fun.'" Morris recalls, "So I took one of my gorilla suits and shipped it to him. Parcel post, if I remember. It was a standard suit we sold to all our customers. Then, not long after he would have received the suit, I got a call from him. He said he had received the suit, and that it seemed okay, but, he said, 'I can see the zipper in the back.' I told him, 'Just brush the fur down over the zipper.' The fur on the suit was a material called Dynel. It was a nylon fiber, a popular material back then. It was used on lots of things, like plush toys, bathroom rugs, toilet seats. I bought it from my supplier in only two colors, black and brown. Then Roger wanted to know how to make the arms longer. I said, 'Find a shovel handle or a stick and slip it in the sleeves. Then attach the gloves to the stick.' That's how to extend the arms in a costume. You screw the gloves onto the stick. Then he said he wanted to make the shoulders more massive. I told him to go down to a local high school and get some old football pads—the coaches would probably be happy to get rid of some old, cracked ones—and put them in the shoulders." Morris stated that a six-foot-tall person could fit inside the suit. Bob Heironimus is slightly taller than six feet, and he was very muscular as a youth, especially in the shoulders, arms, thighs, and legs. Photographs taken of Heironimus in 1967 confirm this. Using a technique called photogrammetry, a study of the Bigfoot film done by the BBC calculated the height of the Bigfoot at just slightly over six feet. Regarding Bigfoot's gait, Morris states: "The Bigfoot researchers say that no human can walk that way in the film. Oh, yes they can! When you're wearing long clown's feet, you can't place the ball of your foot down first. You have to put your foot down flat. Otherwise, you'll stumble. Another thing, when you put on the gorilla head, you can only turn your head maybe a quarter of the way. And to look behind you, you've got to turn your head and your shoulders and your hips. Plus, the shoulder pads in the suit are in the way of the jaw. That's why the Bigfoot turns and looks the way he does in the film. He has to twist his entire upper body." Heironimus also confirmed that he had to turn his entire torso, instead of just his neck, because of how he was constrained in the suit.

Took a day trip to Yakima to facilitate a Master Gardener State Foundation Board strategic planning retreat. The first pic is my dashboard view as I crossed the beautiful Columbia River - all blue skies and calmness. On my return trip, I-90 was closed per a pretty nasty fire in Medical Lake, so I took Steve's Scenic Route as an alternative route. Then, as I headed up the road home, I saw we apparently have another fire just north of us, too! As I am typing this, an evacuation order for the north part of our county was issued 😨. All in an August day up here!
