#ask reply #genuinely I was pretty proud of Charlie’s look #so the fact so many folks liked her made me so happy #I really wanted her to stand out even against other ghost kids #so she got this monochromatic look to her #like she’s been a ghost so long she’s lost her colours #along with that she resembles the puppet more #almost like they fused into one by this point #I really tried to make her both ghostly and eerie #but also cute and friendly #so I think I found that perfect balance #I’m glad one of yall took note of her oversized sleeves #I thought it was a cute design and kept that ghost vibe to her #I gotta draw her again soon!!#we all love Charlie Emily here 🖤🤍

The Ares/Waterland section of the book has been my favourite part for a long time. Not only did this episode do justice to it as an adaptation, it improved upon it in SO many ways.

Ares becoming likeable (which is SCARY) and being the one to set Percy against Gabe, Hephaestus and Annabeth's connection, the visuals of the Love Ride, Grover's plan (whatever the hell THAT is, I am INVESTED), the use of "What is Love?" (second best use of it since Black Panther), the theme of family and found family seriously being delved into...

I love how Percy and Annabeth being in the tunnel actually gained real romantic will-they-won't-they tension due to the hug, which Percy says could be platonic but those who haven't read the books won't know for sure! Plus, it's not just an "ew boy and girl on love trip ew" joke which was always so lame to me in that book.

And again, Show!Ares being likeable and funny is SO much more engaging than his book counterpart (who, imo, is just kind of a War from Good Omens clone). Because I got so sucked into that performance and his dialogue that I forgot who he was and then he got SUPER scary REALLY fast. That's really really good acting and writing.

Maybe it's just because I'm a huge Psych fan and seeing Timothy Omundson alone got me but truly, I almost cried a little?!? This episode was major improvement from the book and I cannot wait for more.

i cannot stress enough that even if you intend to do sports with your dog, even if you intend to work your dog you should get a type of dog you can enjoy living with WITHOUT sports and/or work. Dogs cannot do sports/work forever. Sometimes they need a break from sports/work due to injury. That is just a reality and you are going to have to live with that sportless/workless dog (even if temporary).

yet more frame-by-frame atsv analysis, art style edition!

I still cannot fucking figure out what art medium earth-50101 is supposed to be, my best guess is, like, paint/maybe markers over linework? in any case there's the fun little detail that even though pretty much everything in mumbattan has very distinct outlines, the colours aren't perfect --- sometimes they go outside the lines or don't fill the whole space inside the lines.

like, look at how the colours of the clothes and scarves bleed out past their outlines here! and check out the outlines vs. the shading of the background --- they don't quite match up. the somewhat messy colouring only seems to be for colourblocking/base colours, though. that horse's finery is very detailed and looks very precise!

here's miles crashing through the street a couple seconds later for comparison:

look at him and his sharp outlines and crisp colours! it's subtle enough that it's not distracting, but miles is still very obviously sticking out from the rest of the crowd here

something else I noticed just now: miles still has his comic-book shading dots where the light hits him, which no one else has

on the contrary, the place where the light is coming from (the right side of the frame) has some darker lines staining it --- I'm no artist but I think they might be simulating the look of art done on a canvas rather than on paper?

gwen does not seem to be retaining her watercolour anywhere except her own universe, but although she adapted to earth-1610's style before, she's apparently keeping the comic book look in mumbattan too. didn't know you could do that! (she's even got the comic-misprint motion blurs!)

then we've got pavitr, who actually also has the comic-style shading dots (which is admittedly a little confusing since nothing else in his universe has them?). other than that though he follows his universe's style pretty much exactly --- very distinct outlines, messy colouring but precise details. you can see it most clearly on the close up of his mask, where the outlines of his eyes are perfect but the red of the mask bleeds out into the background.

(another miles for compare/contrasting!)

oh wait are pav's shading dots supposed to be the "canvas" showing through the lighter colours?

I think they are! you can see it much more clearly here, it looks less like dots and more like a crosshatch kind of texture --- I think it is canvas. mystery solved!

TAZ Sapphic Week Day 5: Haunted

I keep seeing people being super upset about Logan using the repaired chassis instead of his original. I understand why people are upset and this isn't to say that you shouldn't be.

But I'm seeing posts like "the 'mechanics won't have the time to do it' excuse is bs, they were able to do it fast enough in Australia". Bestie, they had to break curfew and use both Logan and Alex's mechanic crews to do that. Like please remember (1) it's not just the seat that was swapped out when Alex took over Logan's chassis, every other non-chassis part of the car had to be swapped as well and (2) the mechanics are the ones pulling all-nighters to build/re-build the cars, and that isn't exactly a sustainable work environment.

Phandom, are y'all okay?

Has anyone else noticed the trend recently of Maddie and Jack are absolutely terrible parents?

Like, don't get me wrong, they're not the greatest parents ever... But they're not always some kind of supervillain/evil scientist power couple who can't look past their own biases to change their opinion in the face of new evidence.

I'm kinda specifically talking about the DPxDC side of Tumblr (mostly because of how much I've been reading in that crossover territory the last few weeks), but I think the general fandom has been falling more and more towards irredeemably evil Drs. Fentons as well.

I mean, I get that it's a trope of the Phandom for the Fentons to disecc Danny. Like, that's not the issue. Or at least, not the whole issue? 'Cause I love a good trauma-filled angst fest as much as the next phan.

There just... Used to be a balance, I guess? Like for every couple of Fentons Bad Parenting there would be a fic of the Fentons accepting Danny. It wouldn't be easy, and there was a boatload of delicious angst in that, depending on what Maddie and Jack had done to Phantom before finding out he is their son. There were fics exploring Maddie and Jack dealing with the emotional fallout of their son dying due to their negligence and not even noticing.

But lately, it's just been Maddie and Jack are terrible people. Full stop. No nuance or shades of grey to them.

And I know there are a ton of people in this fandom who have never even seen the original show and write amazing fanfic anyway. They've learned from what we put out there, and maybe that's why there are no new good parents fics.

But, like, remember when Danny Phantom used to be a very thinly veiled allegory for coming out to your parents? I know not everyone's parents are loving and accepting. I'm not trying to diminish anyone's experiences or anything and I think this has devolved into somewhat incoherent ramblings... And this just may be because I have been in this fandom for over a decade now. I may just be overthinking current trends.

But, are y'all okay? Like, seriously, babies.

Do you want a hug? A cup of cocoa? A parental figure to look you in the eyes and say that your feelings are valid? That you are wanted and appreciated just the way you are?

Fighting for my life trying to contain the misinformation that blue team doesn’t communicate or work together or share resources like STOP IT YALL

Red Team works together very well but that doesn’t mean other teams don’t!!! Blue team works incredibly well together!! Just look up the clip of the Tubbo bbh vs Fit and Etoiles fight! Their communication and team work allowed them to split up Etoiles and fit so they could kill Etoiles!

Literally the entire day Tubbo and bbh were organizing and directing their team to get personal tasks and gather resources for the team while they (Tubbo and bbh and Aypierre) completed the contract missions!

I’ve seen several posts listing out the things red team did that helped them win that no one else was doing and I was flabbergasted because blue team checked every single box! They communicate, the help each other, they dish out tasks and priorities to get things done! They reach out in vc or chat when they need help or direction! They grind resources for each other! Like what the hell?

Stop spreading misinformation that red team is the only ones being a team. Yes we all have our favorites and are all biased but don’t dunk on other teams when you don’t actually know what’s going on with them!!
