I decided to make a list of my top ten current favorite series on the WEBTOON app!

1) Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid

Summary: A dark retelling of The Little Mermaid set in the 1920s in Japanese-occupied Korea.

Rebel fighter Uihyeon gets shot off a cliff by the police and falls into the sea. Su-a, an illiterate housemaid, rescues him from drowning and falls for him. Uihyeon’s co-conspirator, Haesu, mistakes Su-a for a spy and attacks her. The botched assassination attempt leaves her permanently unable to speak….

2) I’m The Grim Reaper

Summary: Scarlet just died. She has no memory of her previous life, but she apparently committed some great sin and has been sentenced to eternity in Hell.

Satan offers to spare her this torment, on one condition: that she become a Grim Reaper, and kill one sinner every day for the rest of her immortal life.

She teams up with an attractive young police officer named Chase, who may be the key to solving the mystery of her own death.

3) Castle Swimmer

Summary: Kappa, a young merman, is “The Beacon” - a hero foretold by multiple prophecies.

Siren, prince of the shark-men, has been told all his life that if he kills the Beacon, the terrible curse on his kingdom will be lifted. But, when he meets the handsome hero, he just can’t bring himself to harm him…

4) See You In My 19th Life

Summary: Young Juwon and Seoha are best friends. On Seoha’s ninth birthday, 12-year-old Juwon is killed in a tragic accident.

Juwon is reincarnated in the next life as Jieum.

Twenty years later, Seoha is a rich but traumatized CEO. Jieum remembers her past life and gets a job at Seoha’s company, with the hope of meeting him again.

5) To You Who Swallowed A Star

Summary: Jiu is a teenager, living separately from her parents due to family drama.

She meets two children next door, Hayul and Hajun. They’re very obviously neglected, and Jiu takes on a parent-like role, making sure her neighbors get fed.

Hajun develops romantic feelings for Jiu, which she rejects due to his age. But, over a decade later, they meet again. Hajun is no longer the innocent child Jiu once knew. He’s become a famous K-Pop idol!

6) From A Knight To A Lady

Summary: Estelle is a brave knight, fighting to win a war. But, she dies when one of her fellow soldiers betrays her (and their country).

She wakes up in the fragile body of Lucifela - a noblewoman from the very kingdom she was at war with.

Lucifela allegedly tried to kill herself after the crown prince broke her heart. Estelle now has to live life as Lucifela while she hunts down her own murderer.

7) The Wolfman of Wulvershire

Summary: Carina’s family expects her to settle down, get married and have children. Free spirited, promiscuous Cari doesn’t want to do any of the above. But when the Duke of Wolvershire holds a ball, she reluctantly attends.

On the way to the duke’s castle, she meets a handsome but penniless half-elf named Ren, who has been hired to perform music at the ball. Carina is interested in him immediately. But, on the night of the ball, Ren’s younger sister is murdered. Rumors began swirling that “the Wolfman” is responsible, but surely this an urban legend…right?

8) Suitor Armor

Summary: Fairies and humans are at war with each other. But, when a young human nobleman finds the fairy Lucia orphaned, he decides to take her in, and raise her as his own.

Lucia wears a corset to hide her wings and pass as human. Not even her adopted sister, Kirsi, knows the truth.

When Kirsi is betrothed to the king, the sisters meet the court mage, Norrix. Norrix has enchanted a suit of armor to come to life.

Lucia is the only one to treat the suit of armor - whom she calls “Modeus” - like a sentient being. Even Norrix is surprised when Modeus develops the ability to speak.

9) The Remarried Empress

A classic that shows up on pretty much every WEBTOON rec list lol. But, for good reason!

Summary: Navier has been raised since childhood to become the future empress. She always knew that her destiny was to marry her childhood friend Sovieshu and rule the kingdom at his side.

But, Sovieshu cheats on Navier with a commoner named Rashta. Navier is horrified when she learns that Sovieshu plans to divorce her and make Rashta his new wife and queen.

But, Navier doesn’t get mad - she gets even. The foreign Prince Heinrey falls for Navier, and declares that he is more than willing to make her empress of his kingdom.

10) Midnight Poppy Land

Summary: Innocent editor Poppy Wilkes moves to the big city and falls for the handsome Tora - not knowing that Tora is a high ranking and dangerous enforcer in the local Mafia.

I'm sorry, I have to get this off my chest, y'all. The last chapter of Wolfman of Wulvershire(Spoilers btw) actually fucked me up. This man Lionel wanted to get with his cousin, burnt his cousins' house down with her husband still inside, and threatened to hurt her all with her baby in the car. I swear, I want to see Lionel suffer. Just the worst death, electric chair this motherfucker.
