how to clip (redneck ash atthebell edition aka not the most efficient necessarily)

my best methods for clipping & posting to tumblr

tl;dr use clipr for downloading clips from twitch, other methods vary by mileage

Clip on Twitch & Download using Clipr

IMO, this is the best method for posting clips. Twitch clips don't always display properly on Firefox, and it also means that if the clip ceases to exist on Twitch for whatever reason, it's still uploaded to Tumblr. You can also guarantee the quality you're downloading in, which is usually 1080p unless the streamer has for some reason lowered their stream quality (happens by accident sometimes).

Downsides: 1) You have to be able to download the clip to your computer, and doesn't work on mobile. Well, it could, but it would be way more difficult and I don't know why you would do that to yourself. 2) If the moment you want to clip is longer than 60 seconds, you have to use another method. Twitch only lets you clip something that long. I bemoan this fact every day.

Screen capture on your computer

The pros of this method are that you aren't limited to 60 seconds, and if you're trying to clip something from a YouTube video, it's easier than trying to download a YouTube clip (have never been able to successfully do this myself) or downloading the entire video and then editing it down to the moment you want to clip.

The cons are that you have to make sure you're not screen capturing sensitive shit from your own computer, and you have to turn off all other audio and make sure your volume levels & video quality are at appropriate levels (aka don't have your volume super low, don't have the video on 480p if possible). If you're clipping off YouTube, you have to deal with having the channel's watermark in the corner, but otherwise it's great for when you want to just clip something from Twitch but it's longer than 60 seconds.

How to do this (on Windows):

Remember to put your computer on DND (Discord as well) and put the video on highest quality and decent volume levels. Press Windows key + G (if that's your configuration) and select "Start Recording" on the capture window. Remember to give time for the scrub bar and shit from YouTube or Twitch (or whatever) to go away, so go back a little bit before where you want the clip to start. Record until you've got what you want, then open it in whatever video editing software pleases you. You can find the recording in Captures on your computer (usually in some folder chain in Users) or by just pressing Windows key + G again, it'll let you open the recording in file location. I use Microsoft Clipchamp to edit because Windows Media Player crashes my computer and I'm not going to pay for nice editing software rn. Anyway, edit out the bits with you moving your mouse around and the video player UI and get it to whatever length you like. Save or redownload to your computer, upload to Tumblr.

Downloading off Twitter

Use twittervideodownloader or twdown. Copy the video address from the video and paste it, then download in whatever quality you'd like. Please attribute said clips, particularly if they went through the trouble of adding subtitles or you're using their translation (or just to let people know where they came from-- i.e. is this from a cc's own IG story, or is it a random fan recording them; the latter means you maybe shouldn't be reposting this video). Translation itself is often a thankless project so it's very appreciated to acknowledge translators. Also if someone else went through the trouble of clipping something, it's just nice to acknowledge them for it. Preferably include a link to the original tweet. This method is best for just needing stuff off Twitter, for IG stories that someone else already screen captured, or if the only clip you can find is on Twitter and the original vod/video is gone for whatever reason.

Extra fun tips:

If you are a frequent clipper, get in the habit of naming your files! If you're keeping them all on your computer, for organization's sake, it will save you SO much time and energy if you just have names on your files. It doesn't have to be anything crazy formal; for example, my format is just "oct 12 cellbit scared by sign tts;" date followed by a very short description.

Similar to the above, it also helps to include some amount of context to clips when you're posting them, particularly if you're not liveblogging. Sometimes people rb clips onto my dash and start freaking out about some kind of lore going on and it's like dude this clip is from two months ago, calm down. Please turn on timestamps also for the love of fuck.

You can download videos straight off Tumblr! If someone else already posted a clip you like and want to have on your computer, you can download it off the dash or off their blog and just have it, no extension or screen capture or website needed. One of the very cool things about this website!

Related, if you really want to find a clip that you know was already posted to Tumblr by someone else, use people's archives. They're also one of the actually functional parts of this website. You can filter by post type, month, and tags, which can usually get you closer to finding what you're looking for than searching will.

RoyalArchivist tends to post and reblog a lot of clips, so they're a good resource alongside myself, pix pixiecaps, and jay cellgatinbo, all of whom clip like maniacs. I also just reblog a lot of things and have a pretty extensive tagging system. RA also has a timestamp archive for QSMP with notes about lore and things-- please check that out if you're interested in helping document events or looking to find a certain moment.

MCYT Archive Project has public vods spreadsheets for QSMP as well as other MCYT projects that are incredibly extensive, so if you're looking for a moment and you remember the date, you should be able to find the vod on the sheet. You can also use the vod archives in junction with wiki articles to figure out exactly or approximately when something happened (the QSMP Miraheze wiki includes citations in their articles, which is a massive help for this kind of thing).

Finally, I am a lunatic who figured this all out through trial and error. There are probably other, somewhat more efficient methods, like I said at the start. If you know of any, please (politely) add onto the post.

a/n: someone tell me how to get 3 pictures aligned together on tumblr, mobile (comment or msg me) hopefully this makes up for me not posting for a week. this was requested by xevr, have a nice hiatus. <3 (feel free to request)

You checked the time, it was 1:35 am.

You ran your fingers down your face, awakening up to reality, because you were so immersed in this book that you lost track of time and maybe disrupted your sleep schedule.

You turned around to see your partner, Trent, how calm he appeared, white disheveled sheets starting at his lower abdomen, dreadlocs tangled up against the pillow. Soft breathing coming from him, back muscles slightly tensed. He was quite the sight.

You put your book down on the nightstand and decided to fetch a snack before returning to it.

You got up cautiously, keeping an eye on the others' motions so as not to wake him up.

When you got out of bed, you kept your eyes on him as if you were approaching something hazardous and wanted to tread softly, and didn't pay attention so you stubbed your toe on the corner of the bedstead. (ouch. relatable.)

SHIT, you said internally; biting inside your mouth to refrain you from making any noise. Making a sour expression.

Trent grumbled quietly and turned to the left side; you paused for a moment before exhaling slightly when you heard him snoring again.

Limping, you headed to the kitchen of your shared flat.

"Dark as hell," you said to yourself. Luckily for you, the moonlight projecting through the balcony window saved you.

You observe Prince and Koba resting in their cages, which is excellent; another obstacle to avoid if you want to wake up Trent. The dogs are notoriously loud.

You stood your ground for a minute, thinking about a plan of how to get a successfully.

After some thought, you tiptoed over to the, your gaze shifting to the dogs. You stubbed your toe on your way to the kitchen.

CHRISSTTT, you thought internally once again. You quietly fell to the ground touching the toe that was stubbed twice.

You stayed on the floor for awhile gathering your thoughts, why do I do dumb shit, the hell is wrong with me, AAAAAAA— you stopped thinking and got up you limping got worse and it hurt to tip toe again.

Why the hell is it so quiet at night, you kept yourself steady on the kitchen island counter, and inhaled and exhaled 3 times and returned to finding a late night snack.

It was dark, like pitch dark, no moonlight no nothing. You relied on your hands to guide you the way.

You sighed again, recovering your calm. You took a step and saw that it was safe to take another, so you did. You walked 3 steps to the main counter, where you brought your hands and move them side to side.

OOPS—

You dropped something, trying to wonder what it was it that echoed, sounded like a platistic cup, why this shit still going, you thought to yourself and you bent down trying to track the cup.

You grabbed it and placed it on the counter. You sighed, you didn't recall that getting a late night snack would be this difficult.

You raised your hand, looking for the cabinets; you located one and opened it. You just felt plates inside it. You carefully close the cabinet again.

You made your way slowly to the island counter, moving your hands trying to find something, literally something edible at least.

Your hands made contact with a glass bowl, you brought it closer to you and felt was inside, it felt like fruits.

JACKPOT

You took a bite of the fruit, and dropped your head.

You swore that you were just gonna burst put in tears and laughter because of your stupidity.

It was fake; it was a fake fruit.

You removed your teeth from the decor, and dropped it on the floor.

You felt around the counter again trying to see if you could find anything again. You felt a bag, you grabbed it and inspected it. It was a chip bag.

THANK GOD, You opened your chips, they were loud. Feeling relieved, you ate one and crunched on them, feeling satisfied. You sat on the floor enjoying your chips happily.

You heard faint steps, becoming louder.

The kitchen lights opened, blinded by them you rubbed your eyes getting used to the lighting.

Busted , you thought.

"...babe?"

You grimaced, "..down here Trent"

Trent appeared from where he was standing; you could see him clearly; he was very adorable, wrapped in a blanket; like a burrito."

"Fucking freezing in here" He said, scouse accent thickening.

"Why are you on the floor...eating chips...at nearly 3 in the mornin'.."

You shrugged, "Late night snack?"

"Is that the reason why I heard noises coming from here?"

"Yes. stubbed my toe 2 times, 'ought to feel pity for me." You said reaching down to massage your big toe.

Trent laughed, you rolled your eyes.

He sat besides you, you two didn't say anything for awhile.

"I was trying to stay quiet to not disturb you from your sleep.." you admitted under your breath.

Trent kissed near the corner of your lips. "Thank you" he muttered in your ear, his breath hot near your ear.

"Now then, let's head to bed." He got up, giving you a hand to remove you off the floor.

You opened to door to and made your way to the kitchen, and you saw Trent in his usual fitting white underarmour shirt, and grey sweatpants.

He's on his phone doing god knows what, and you've just bought new groceries.

After placing them on the counter, Trent put his attention onto you.

"What'd you buy?"

"Fruit."

"..fruit?"

You grabbed the platter of fake fruits and dumped them out. Muttering to yourself, "who the hell just buys fake fruit."

"It's for decor, babe. Trent stated

"Y'know last night I bit into one of these thinking it was an actual fruit."

Trent bursted out in laughter, you rolled your eyes and began replacing the fruit.

Sinopsis: Geto's S/o is a Disabled Non-Sorcerer

Reader: Neutral/Female

Genre: Headcanons

Warnings:small divergence from Canon at the end, friends to lovers, soft Geto, Reader is DISABLED (Which type of disability will not be specified, but it is one that makes mobility difficult, which could be using crutches, lack of limbs, wheelchair, etc. I will try to be vague about it, to cover as much as possible), Reader gets to receive BULLYING (NOT FROM GETO! Japanese society is considered very inclusive and everything, but people with disabilities don't have a very good time), some Soft yandere Geto? More like how he would act if something like that really happens in canon, Angst with Fluff. LONG POST

okay, I figured that you and Geto could probably be either 1- neighbors or 2- having gone to the same school (before being a Sorcerer obviously).

Be that as it may, Geto has known you for a long time, since you were young he remembers to give you a hand when you couldn't on your own (whether pushing your wheelchair/reaching for your crutches).

He always felt that he naturally gravitated towards you, he thought it was because of his belief that Non-Sorcerers needed protection, and in your case it was more serious, because of your disability, he felt that he had to take care of you.

but he soon realized that that wasn't really the reason, because despite your cadences, you were really capable, you were smart, creative, you had a good academic and even motor level, so he felt calmer in some way, knowing that he wanted to be with you to Bc of YOU in general.

Thus a beautiful friendship was born.

Geto was a very fun friend to have around, especially because, in general, he was very attentive so that you didn't feel left out.

It was like that even when they were little, if there was a game where you couldn't play, he would change it so you could be in it too. Translated to today, if he saw that his teammates were leaving you aside, he would intervene to assert yourself.

God forbid someone made a bad comment about your disability around him☠️

Geto didn't tolerate that shit.

For the same reason, when he went to Jujustu High, he was a little worried that you didn't have anyone who had as much experience helping you as he did, although at that moment you reassured him and wished him luck in his "new school".

...yes, at first you didn't really know what Jujutsu High was, you always had the feeling that Geto had certain strange qualities, but you just thought he was eccentric.

(Geto definitely ate several curses that tried to get closer to you or your home over the years)

Although Geto helped you with what you will need, he also wanted you to do things on your own so that you could have more capacity and generally feel more "normal" so to speak. obviously things that wouldn't make you uncomfortable.

That's why you had a lot of confidence in yourself, even when he left, it was another reason why I thought you would be fine without him. that someone else might be able to take care of you.

and at first, everything seemed to be going well! You continued going to high school, getting weekly updates from Geto (whether in person or via text), and everything felt almost unchanged. except that...

You realized that, apart from Geto, no one else dared to talk to you now. It wasn't even because you didn't try, people saw you (with a strange expression) and said goodbye immediately.

and you tried MANY times, again, and again, and again, and again, but always the same, they saw you and walked away in a hurry, with that expression on their faces.

That was your story during the first part of the year, where you also identified the feeling behind those faces.

disgust.

"It's normal" they used to say when you complained to someone "if you can't keep up with others, they'll leave you behind or you'll isolate yourself, you're not trying hard enough."

That just made you feel worse obviously.

but you didn't dare to share that part with Geto, not when you saw each other and he was so happy to see you and tell you about his classmates (normal classmates, apparently), especially a "Satoru" who always appeared in his anecdotes, it was nice to see him this happy.

You didn't dare to break his bubble with your "meaningless problems" so you only talked about the academic part and things at home, and he believed it.

In a way, these outings were what helped you stay sane, because the loneliness of the first year was overwhelming.

but the second year was worse. much worse.

They already knew that you wouldn't do much against isolation, so they took a step further, aggression.

At first they were typical comments from someone ignorant (not necessarily malicious) but they escalated to hurtful jokes and more unpleasant comments as time went by.

although at least one or two people took pity on your situation and started helping you when you had problems with your disability (previously, most of the time only teachers did it). and you talked about them as "friends" (although they were barely acquaintances) when you hung out with Geto, thus managing to elude his radars for another year.

that's what you thought, Although Geto began to notice certain changes in your attitude in the second year, he thought that maybe these "friends" could be toxic friends, which made him ask you out more often.

You even got to meet his teammates! Satoru and Shoko. Although you felt that they were leaving some things... out of the conversations, they were fun, especially Gojo, you understood why Geto was so delighted with him.

Even at one point when Geto left them alone with you, they continued talking to you about the most normal things, even joking that Geto talked about you every now and then at school, as if they were insinuating something...

but Geto returned before they continued with that.

Does anyone remember that scene where Geto and Gojo are riding a bike together? They'd probably try that on you, with a LOT of precautions Obviously, but you'll get it done somehow (is this even physically possible? Don't ask) and WOW it's almost like flying.

this would happen a couple more times in the second year, while you weren't even HALF as close to Shoko and Gojo as Geto, they were definitely good people that you enjoyed hanging out with. almost friends, so to speak.

While things at your own school weren't getting better, but at least they weren't trying anything besides verbal bullying, a part of you feels like you should have expected it.

Your family was not happy about this, they were much more aware of your situation, but since there was no physical damage, they couldn't do much, and you didn't want to waste their time.

The bullying would continue even if you changed schools, you knew it. they knew it.

At least you still had Geto and that helped you cope with everything.

That was until the third year, where everything went to hell.

That was the first thing Geto noticed.

He decided to be honest with what he did at Jujutsu High, even if he didn't give all the information, now everything made MUCH more sense, it's the first thing you remember from that year.

The third year was a blur, what started as typical school bullying turned into direct physical violence and more direct grievances.

hide your things, throw them in the trash, shake you and pull your hair, make rounds to push you, pinch you until you cry, hit you with a ruler-

Everything escalated so quickly that your family decided halfway through the year that you would no longer go to school, but instead study at home.

How so, you never told Geto this, mostly because you only let him tell how he was doing lately and if he asked, you would just tell him some family drama story.

This time he didn't buy it from you.

And to make matters worse, your relatives accidentally spilled the beans on HIS parents.

There was no escape, you had to tell him.

and surprisingly he wasn't mad at you. not at all.

Rather, he was angry that he didn't ask more deeply, knowing that there were holes in your story, and maybe help you through the whole process.

but he settled for comforting you and giving you a hand now that you would be more within reach than before.

If your family had some business to attend to and couldn't take care of you, Geto would offer. Obviously they were skeptical at first, but they realized very quickly that there was nothing to worry about.

Those days it would practically just be the two of you doing things like kids your age, playing some games, watching trash TV, taking a break from the outside world.

Geto also ends up learning even more about your condition to be able to take better care of yourself these days, although he believes that it is best to ask your family for advice since they are the ones who interact with you the most during the day and know best how to treat your specific case.

Although you also care a lot about him, even if you don't fully understand his "job", you don't want him to neglect taking care of you.

You only make him fall even harder, honestly.

If you are even an "unofficial couple" at this point, Geto is very careful with you, in the sense that he does not want the world of Jujustu to reach you in some way.

Maybe that's why he doesn't share much of what he does in Jujutsu High, not only because technically he shouldn't, but because he feels that if he tells you EVERYTHING he would be tarnishing you in some way - it's just that you're so friendly and cute! He wants to keep you always like that!

Then, when he is spiraling down, you are the first to notice and try to talk to him, but at first he seems to avoid you :(

Maybe it doesn't last long (maybe a week) before he comes back (practically running) and apologizes for it, he just can't handle seeing you hurt because of him :'(

He also continues to show worrying behavior, when he talks about the Non-Sorcerer for example, you can see the HATE in his eyes when he talks about them, saying frankly creepy things, only to completely turn around and say that it doesn't include you, you're different, you are good.

You try to talk to Shoko and Gojo but you don't have their contacts, and you honestly don't know if it's a good idea to ask Geto for them in his current state.

and one day... it just happens, the last straw.

and Geto disappears for a time, a time that seems eternal.

and the last thing you remember about it is already being in the cult. without having an idea of how or when, but you were already there.

but...do you feel strangely safe?

As You could, you leave the comfortable room that you wake up and search for any clue that tell you what they hell just happen.

Your family is also with you, but unlike you, they are much more bewildered by the whole situation. Everyone is dressed in strange clothes, well, except for you, you have clothes quite similar to what you wear at home.

When you least realize it, Geto is with you, by your side, asking how you feel (as if he hadn't just fucking kidnapped you all), he's different, you notice, he's much calmer.

although he looks noticeably more irritated when talking to your family (he even goes so far as to call them "monkeys").

and basically explains to them WHY they are all here.

You are an exception to his rule, and your family can stay as long as they take care of you (because he wouldn't even let some stranger or "monkey" take care of your condition).

You don't understand much of what he's talking about, but that seems to be his intention. and is again incredibly gentle when addressing you.

Being with Geto is a delight, even when he's evil, you know he's up to no good, but there's little you can do to stop him. So you do what anyone would do, accept their advantageous situation.

Besides, it's not bad at all.

Geto introduces you to the family, who although they were VERY skeptical of you at first, grew fonder of you much faster than they want to admit.

Except for the twins, they already had you in high regard because of how Geto talked about you.

Now that he has the resources, rest assured that he will get you things to make your condition more manageable (if he doesn't get some Sorcerer who can alleviate the symptoms, but he will still get them for you just in case)

YOU. ARE. SPOILED. ROTTEN. It's not even fun now, before young Geto would have done anything so you could stand on your own or walk towards him, but nowadays it seems like he doesn't even want you to move a muscle. Just stay on his lap and let him pamper you.

That's another thing, it becomes considerably more Clingy. He respect if you don't want to have contact due to sensory overload, but the man is literally SHAKEING when he can't even give you 3 hugs.

You also become more chubby, he insist that you should eat more to be more healty(Even insist on spoon feed you if youre having a Bad day). Maybe he just don't want to see you in a sickly state like in the School days(he still has a Little guilty for that).

Don't misunderstand, if you want to improve your condition, Geto will give you all his support (and that of the family alongside yours, they are your cheerleaders🤣), any progress is an achievement.

Do you know those videos of paraplegic brides who walk to the altar (even if it's with a support)? If you do that with Geto (whether the evil one or Teacher) he will most likely start crying (from happiness and pure love)

Your family went from = completely approving to = HATING HIM WITH ALL THEIR SOUL. Geto is the same, but he realized that it would put you in a bad mood if he referred to them as "monkeys" (at least in front of you), so they made a "Cold War" pact, they only say things to each other when you are not close.

Like:

Geto:(make sure youre gone)MONKEYS

Your family: INSANE, LUNATIC, UGLY, KYS--

if we're talking about an AU where Geto doesn't turn evil (aka, free therapy) IT'S ALL FLUFF.

Mimiko and Nanako LOVES YOU!(independent of the AU) and will definitely defend you from any idiot who thinks making fun of you is "fun"

(in canon no one would even dare to look the wrong way in your direction thanks to Geto's protection)

In general he is much more open to letting you do things.

He is still cuddly, but at a "normal" level so to speak, he can die at any moment despite being (along with Satoru) the strongest, so he greatly appreciates the moments with you and the girls.

He often goes with you with Shoko, who becomes something of a close friend of the family.

Gojo makes many many MANY "lovebird" jokes when the two of you are around, or when Geto calls you to check on you, you can hear Gojo mockingly affectionately.

In general, Geto sees you as someone precious, and that your disability (apart from not preventing you from being a capable person) only highlights your soft and friendly personality despite everything, how you approach life, sincerely he just wants to take care of you.

He loves you very much regardless of your abilities.

having little or no access to the internet is smth ppl talk about but in a detached, intellectual sense because people online talking about it generally aren't the people experiencing it for obvious reasons.

obviously, I can get on the internet. I live in the country, so I can't get wifi and rely on mobile data with a slow signal. I can really only stream about four to ten hours of video a month, depending on the time of year (winter sucks bc everyone is clogging it up, stuck at home), and I'm stuck with primarily text-based sites with about 50-70% of pictures loading.

And it's a super mixed bag. There's the obvious hurdles it causes to education and work. It's annoying getting news - I rely more on public access, which is debatably a good thing compared to social media.

There's also the fact it hinders businesses here from modernizing, which is probably hindering our local economy. It's hard to figure out what the menu is or who's hiring if the website hasn't been updated since 2004

It's also nice- I feel like I'm outside a lot, I don't really stress about social media. I do doom scroll, but it's very limited by my mobile data cap and bad signal. I could easily live without subscription services- I pay for Hulu, mostly for my dad in the cities and some friends, but I still use DVDs and CDs, and it's cool that I don't have to keep paying for them to be able to watch them. I also just don't really watch television seriously. So there is that. not saying it doesn't suck, being cut off from wifi, but there's some good points, just before I get really negative in a second.

It makes it harder for women to find domestic violence resources. also lacking computer skills makes it easier for the abuser to catch them. not having access to women outside the community is also fucked because many women in communities like mine think abuse is normal, largely because they haven't had exposure to people from places where the abuse present here is abnormal.

It also makes it difficult for anyone in need of a lawyer to find one taking new clients. When I was living in a city and needed one, it took one google search. when a friend here needed one, it was a lot of phone calls and word of mouth. most people going to court don't tend to have time for that shit, or the disposable income to spend that time. also a lot of probation, parole and public defenders rely a lot on convicts having access to wifi. also a fun fact: many jails and prisons expect inmates families to have wifi to manage commissary, video visits, and lord knows what else.

and then we can also talk housing- a lot of tenant unions make the error of organizing primarily online. my issues with that on the organizational side are for another post, but many of the people I talked to when I was in a tenant union were not technologically literate, didn't have access to internet or other technology, or couldn't access the necessary resources in their language. most of the work we did was home visits, phone calls, or in-person as a result.

Also basic services- a lot of banks, utility companies, health insurance, they want you to do everything online or over the phone and it's not really feasible. I have to plan to come into town early to do a lot of this, even just to make phone calls. and it's ass when applying for jobs because you can't always be in town or somewhere with a signal, so you end up missing calls or emails and seeming unreliable.

The Pros and Cons of Silent Hill: Ascension

Hey there! Are you planning on sitting through Silent Hill Ascension, either because you're excited, want to build up hype/support for further Silent Hill projects, or maybe you're curious about what new shit show Konami's cooked up? Well, I've sat through the first two days, and let this post be a quick run-through on the good, the bad, and the very, very ugly about Silent Hill: Ascension!

Pros:

There's honestly very little, but I'll run through them nonetheless.

Voice Acting is, right now, okay. Some actors are clearly better than others. I have to give special shout-outs to Rachel Hernandez and Xavier Candless. They're both doing really well with their characters so far and I'm excited to hear how they'll act in more emotive scenes. Of course, we're only two days in so we'll see how that changes.

Silent Hill Ascension features minigames which average around "okay." I'll talk about it more in the 'Bad' section, but the good ones are fun little brain teasers that I find satisfying enough to solve. This is not across the board, but it's enough of a positive that I felt it okay to list.

The site is functional enough that the catch-up videos seemed to work without any hiccups (edit: so long as there isn't a livestream occurring at the same time. If you want to play catch-up 30 minutes before the new stuff is released, odds are the livestream will cut in and mess up your video). Plus, the grace period for decision making is very generous so far, ranging from a full 24 hours to multiple days, so they do give you enough time if you can't watch live.

Credit where credit is due: the monster/creature designs are genuinely well-made. You can clearly see where the budget went, and it was towards making these things look cool and be animated well enough to translate that creepy factor. While nothing is abundantly original right now (we've yet to see the flaming box head guy) I won't short-change the monster designers and animators here, they put effort into this.

There was a bit of misinformation spread around that you'd have to pay to participate. Thankfully, that's not true, you can "play" Ascension without paying a cent and I, personally, wouldn't call this a "pay-to-win" type of game with its set-up. In other words: DO NOT PAY, it's absolutely not worth it here.

Bad:

Animation quality shifts from middling to horrible. The main criticism I have for this "experimental idea" is that everything Ascension tries, the 2000s nailed long before. If you've ever seen one of those 3D straight-to-TV movies that airs on cartoon networks during the holidays, congrats, their animation is likely better and has more charm than Ascension. Characters in Ascension move stiffly, either emote too much or not enough, and lip syncing seems off no matter which language you pick. Animation in SH1 is easily better than this, so don't expect a visual spectacle.

As an addendum to this: Ascension is dark--no, not the content, it is literally hard to see. Going into a Silent Hill-adjacent media, you expect visibility to be impacted by fog. Ascension, on the other hand, skips the fog entirely and just makes everything dark. It is incredibly difficult to see anything that's happening (this includes QTEs which, hoo boy! look at the next segment for that). I don't want to be cynical, but I truly do believe that part of the reason why is to cover up the stiff animation. Until Dawn and other Dark Anthology games had some moments of animation weirdness, but Silent Hill Ascension is easily worse than that on a pure technical level.

App and website responsivity is baaad. Minigames are designed for both platforms with zero differences, but this means some minigames are better on desktop than on mobile and vice versa. Two minigames stand out as particularly mixed/bad: a find-the-object game and a guitar minigame. The find-the-object game was better on desktop because your hovering cursor could find clickable areas more easily than on mobile. The guitar minigame was just bad--it wasn't a rhythm game, it was a game where you had to click finger positions for chords on the guitar strings and, my god, it played horribly no matter which platform I picked (though mobile was noticeably worse) and actually hurt my ears.

As an addendum to that, the live QTE events (yes that's a thing) ALSO suffer from this lack of responsivity, with more destructive results. Live participants were abruptly thrust into QTEs with no warning, no tutorials, and no preparation. There were 4 types of QTEs: a quick button press, a hold-release button, a rapid-tap, and a quick swipe. Of these, only the hold-release and rapid-tap worked regularly. The quick press barely responded, and the swipe indicator is practically hidden due to it being borderline invisible.* While you can try the minigames over and over as much as you want, the QTEs are limited to the live showings and cannot be "replayed." In addition, they have been heavily implied to be a major determining factor as to whether or not characters survive, so if every character's fate is based on successful QTEs, every character is going to die in this show, no matter what you do. This is why I said it's not pay-to-win, you can't pay your way through live QTEs, and this set-up feeds into the unsatisfactory system the entire "game" perpetuates. Even if YOU do well, decisions are based on the community, so if they fail, tough nugs.

The story isn't shaping up to be anything remarkable. There's no major hook in the opening scene and even less of a hook for the three scenes that followed. I'm not intrigued by the "horror" being shown, the way this is being shot and told is more confusing than anything else and, while there are some 'good' actors in this, a majority of them are bad and lack any hutzpah to sell the continued experience. I'm going to hold out for the end of the week, when the first "episode" is done airing, but if nothing hooks me I'm not going to continue.

Ugly:

The "Battlepass." Oh dear god the Battlepass. By paying $20, you can get more "influence points," which you can use to determine actions in this game. You also get exclusive little emote stickers for the live chat (oof) that are, at best, a cringey nightmare and, at worst, absolutely stupid and useless. You also get accessories for your avatar (did I mention there's an avatar? it's so pointless I don't even know WHERE to put that tidbit). Why is this even here? You already have freemium options where you can buy influence points, what does a battlepass add?

The "live chat" just shouldn't be there. I'm sorry, it shouldn't. You can already see the community casting votes and helping with QTEs, having a live chat that is barely moderated with hundreds of thousands of people signing on at 9 to watch the stupidity unfold is a bad idea. It also contributes to the stupidity of the Battlepass system--I don't want emotes, I don't want a 3D avatar that can appear in the show if I give enough points--so nix the whole thing. EDIT 11/1/2023: I kinda got my wish! After the amazing lack of moderation on launch, they've either temporarily OR permanently disabled the live chat! Unfortunately, the video's dimensions to compensate FOR live chat have not been altered, so there's a big gap of black negative space where it should be. People can only reply with the dumb stickers the devs have shoved into this, BUT if you have the battlepass, you can apparently type messages! Ironically, this retroactively gives the battle pass an actual fucking purpose since it gives you a privilege, and the stickers serve a purpose since they're the only way for non-battlepassers to communicate in live chat. Fucking brilliant, they've stumbled backwards into an unintentional solution. EDIT 11/4/2023: Genvid's CEO, Jacob Navok, has made various claims on twitter that of course they tested they tested their AI moderation for basic slurs, it's just that the system got overwhelmed by day 1 traffic. Well, I absolutely DON'T believe that (the testing, not the overwhelmed thing, connection and stability were terrible day 1) seeing as people are getting around not being able to TYPE swearing and horrific racial slurs into chat by simply making their usernames swears and slurs without any letter substitution (a la leetspeak). Here is a link to a video of someone who was streaming Ascension and had the chat open, only to see have someone with the user name "Fuck_[n-word]s" in chat (I'm not typing the actual slur fuck that). When he goes to try and flag the user, he is given no ability to report the username. So, yeah, even if you see some incredibly racist/bigoted shit, you can't flag the user and report them to, y'know, assist with the absolutely real robot-powered moderation that totally exists! If there was the most BASIC moderation in the world to catch english swears and slurs, that username would not have been permitted under any circumstances, so I fully do not believe this fucker.

The decisions themselves shouldn't have labels. What I mean by that is that, so far, every option has three possible options. These options are labelled under three categories: redemption, suffering, and damnation. In other words, the watcher can literally see the paths leading towards the "good, neutral, and bad" endings for Ascension. This shouldn't be a thing, period, because it immediately introduces biases into your choices. Every option so far has been massively skewed towards the "redemption" path because people aren't blind, they can see the "good" ending on the horizon, and they want to go for it. The worst part is, the options on their on aren't explicitly good or bad, so if they got rid of that labeling it'd still work. idk, it just feels stupid. (NOTE: day 2 introduced ONE choice that doesn't have this same labeling system. No clue if that's a bug or if there are going to be decisions that don't have a label. Even then, it seems like a small decision in the overall scheme of things, so... :shrug:)

Yes, the decisions are permanent, thus denying you the ability to see 2/3s of whatever Genvids has worked on. I just think that's dumb and, though many in the community have criticized this already, it feels even dumber when watching the show play out live. There's no way that the money Ascension could possibly make would subsidize the effort put into this if you're effectively nixing 2/3s of anything you can see (and it does seem like major alterations to the characters and their routes so far, nothing minor, so... yeah, you're missing out on a LOT). This also means that because of the audience effectively being enticed to pick the clearly labelled "good path," if you put any effort into a different choice, odds are you wasted your time with minigames for the day. This means Ascension is set up to be as unsatisfying as possible for individuals, and only satiates half of the community engaging with it. There is no way this is going to last the entire scheduled 6 months this is intended to run for if this is the system they're operating under.

In conclusion: give this one a pass. If you're really curious, you can watch now and get a good idea of its future quality. This isn't remarkable at all and looks more like a time sink than anything "fun."

I still don't understand why this isn't a video game, other than Konami hoping some suckers will pay for the influence packs and get them more money than a $60 one-time-purchase. Quantic Dreams and Supermassive "Dark Anthology" games are really fun and well-liked because of the CYA angle they take. This could've made a decent amount of money if it were just, y'know, a normal game.

*MINOR EDIT: tested the QTEs on desktop instead of mobile and they were better overall: prompts respond easily to mouse clicks and aren't nearly as invisible on my phone screen compared to my desktop. If you are REALLY interested in trying it live and getting a feel of the "authentic, live experience", I'd recommend accessing the site on desktop over downloading a mobile app.

Yeah I know I keep editing this honestly BUT I do have a big-ass critique I just noticed relating, again, to the minigames.

Here is a screenshot of the rewards you can receive for your performance with the minigames. You are rated on a scale of 1-3 stars, with a failure being 0 stars. In return for your performance, you gain "Interactive Points" and EXP. Tell me, after looking at this screenshot, what the problem with these rewards might be:

Do you see it? Well, if you don't, let me point it out to you.

THE AMOUNT OF INTERACTIVE POINTS YOU RECEIVE, THE CURRENCY YOU USE TO ACTUALLY MAKE DECISIONS AND PROPERLY CONTRIBUTE TO THE STORY, GOES DOWN IF YOU DO WELL AT THE MINIGAMES. THE GAME ACTIVELY PUNISHES YOU FOR PLAYING WELL.***

100 interactive points, by the way, is not enough to vote on a decision! You need 200 minimum. You also cannot repeatedly play the minigames to farm IP or EXP so, once you get two stars, you can't get the rewards for three or vice versa. And remember, if you're not a battlepasser, you only get two of these minigames per day.

Why on earth is it scaled this way? The difference between two stars and three stars is the exact same, why does it not increase when you do the minigames well? 100 for one star, 200 for two, 300 for three, it's so god damn easy AND you can still keep the scummy interactive point packages they sell!

But, I here you asking, what does the EXP do? Well, ignoring that a 10 EXP difference is exceeding minimal, EXP gives you... nothing!

Yeah, not even kidding with this one. There does seem to be a leveling system attached to your profile, but I cannot see a single thing connecting it to rewards (which are across the board useless), giving you a power boost with your voting, or just giving you perks. As far as I'm aware, EXP doesn't grant you a god damn thing, and that's the only increased reward from doing well.

***CORRECTION (because nothing in my life can ever be simple): the minigames DO reward you better than the screenshot above. Just did today's minigames and I got 330 IP from a 2 star ranking. However, if that's the case, I GENUINELY do not understand why this is labelled incorrectly? This doesn't even add up correctly (the 1 star + 2 star ranking should equal 300, NOT 330).

So, at best, the site is poor at labelling things (which wouldn't surprise me, the UI is a mess most days on this) OR my view of the site/rewards are bugged! Who fuckin' knows at this point. Sorry for the long rant y'all but honestly? Considering I only noticed the labelling earlier today and couldn't test this until the reset happened, I could only go off the labelled point system above.

I WILL say that tonight was the first night the community succeeded at the endurance scenes! I'd be happier about that if the game itself gave a shit, because apparently, what we do does not matter (as this game seems rapt with telling us)

Yes folks, despite the community succeeding two (2!) of these long ass, repetitive QTE events, for some fucking reason, Karl's hope went down further! This is, again, despite the fact that the community AT LARGE succeeded for the first time since the premiere date, but we still lost! Fucking how.

Writing Fight Scenes Part 7 - Basic Ground-fighting Terminology

So a lot of what you see in movies is (bedazzled, unrealistic) stand-up fighting/sparring that involves things like punches and kicks. But the reality is, most fights don't remain 'on their feet.' In this post, I'm going to talk about why most realistic fights go to the ground, the goals of ground-fighting, and some basic terminology

Before that, I should mention that I am going to be speaking from a grappling perspective. Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are very similar martial arts, the main difference being the fact that bjj is usually performed while wearing a gi. I've always found this impractical, as many of the submissions (I'll explain this term in a minute) that rely on clothing are difficult to execute if a character's opponent is wearing civilian clothing

Importance of grappling

Above all else, a character who is good at fighting will know how to grapple because it is far easier to fall than it is to stand back up. A character loses their footing? Gets tackled/tripped? Catches a fist to the face? They're going to the ground. On the other hand, once a character is on the ground, their opponent might not be so kind as to allow them back to their feet. So, what do they do?

Goals of grappling

Returning to standing position

Like I just said, it's quite hard for a character to come back to their feet after they've hit the ground, but it can be done. A character would want to 1. Create space from their opponent, 2. Move quickly (to avoid giving their opponent the chance to stop them) and 3. Protect their head, especially if their opponent is still on their feet

Pummeling/TKO/Knockout

TKO, by the way, stands for 'technical knockout,' and describes an instance where an opponent is deemed unable to fight back even while conscious, usually due to an incessant beating. If two characters are grappling, one can maneuver into a favorable position (like sitting on the chest) and just beat the shit out of the other. This is great if you have a more brutish character because the most technical part is getting into a good position

Submission

These are a little trickier to describe, because there's a lot of them. The goal of a submission is to either force an opponent to submit (no shit, right?) or to forcibly stop a fight by knocking them unconscious/breaking something. The two main categories are chokes and breaks

Chokes:

Blood chokes - these aren't as scary as they sound. They target the veins/arteries on either side of the throat to stop the flow of blood to the brain. They take hold pretty quickly but typically don't hurt at all, unless you pass out I guess

Air chokes - these are illegal in the ufc, because you can easily do damage to the throat structures. As you might guess, your character is just squeezing the hell out of the actual column of an opponent's throat. Also, they take longer to set in. Only let your character perform an air choke if they're a massive cunt/out for blood

Breaks:

This is actually another umbrella term. In reality, there are actual breaks, and then dislocations, hyperextensions, cranks/bars, and some that fall into multiple categories

Breaks - you guessed it, your character breaks bone. The most common ones are wrist, arm, elbow and knee (these two also fall into the hyperextension category), leg and ankle breaks. I've broken too many of my own bones to enjoy writing OR reading these, so

Dislocations - again, pretty self-explanatory. Shoulder and knee dislocations take precedence. Gross

Hyperextensions - mostly elbows and knees. Disgusting

Cranks/bars - this is the one I think I need to explain the most. Cranks aim to fuck up muscles, tendons and ligaments by wrenching joints beyond their normal mobilities. I see the most shoulder and knee cranks. Whump writers, you'll love these because you can go slow, drag it out. That being said, if you make me read that, I will show up in your backyard

Basic Terminology

So I already got some terms out of the way, but grappling is a whole different world than stand-up fighting. Have y'all ever heard 'jiu jitsu is gay' jokes? They're right actually

Rolling - the actual act of grappling with someone, usually for practice. It is NOT out of the ordinary for a character who does martial arts to say to their buddy, 'hey, you wanna roll?'

Clinch - 'the clinch' is kind of an intermediary stage between stand-up fighting and grappling wherein a character and their opponent are still on their feet, but they're holding onto each other. It kinda looks like a dynamic hug tbh, but really, they're fighting for a more advantageous position, so that a given character can knock their opponent to the ground

Mount - one character is flat on their back while the other straddles their chest. Ideally, the character on top (dominant position) would either sit high on their opponent's chest/collarbones, or they would sit directly on the diaphragm and squeeze with their knees

Guard - one character is flat on their back with their legs crossed around the other character's torso, who has their knees slightly spread for balance. The character on the bottom has the advantage if they can trap and pull their opponent's face to their chest, and cross their ankles high on their opponent's back. Conversely, the character on top has the advantage if they can sit up as straight as possible

Half-guard - think scissoring, almost. One character on their back/side and one sitting/kneeling upright, each with one of the other's legs crossed between their own. Same rules for advantage as guard. I don't really like this position because I don't like having my legs tangled up, it's too easy for my opponent to try a knee bar

Side control - one character flat on their back (preferably with their knees bent upwards) and the other laying on them perpendicularly, face-down. The idea here is to be as heavy as possible, to stop the character on the bottom from moving. Female characters want to press using the weight of their hips, male characters want to press using the weight of their chest; to trap a female character, lay closer to the hips, and to trap a male character, lay on the chest.

Rear mount - actually not as terrible as it sounds! Both characters on their asses, one behind the other with their arms wrapped around the torso/the ankles hooked behind the knees. DO NOT let your character cross their ankles when they are the one behind, holding their opponent. It is an EXCELLENT way to end up with broken legs (don't worry abt why)

North-south - ...69. I hate this one too, it's way too easy to get my knee fucked with

I hope this was helpful, and if not helpful, at least amusing. I guess the idea of this post was to give you some key words to google, in case you want to do more in-depth research (i.e you want your character to perform a cool submission but have no idea where to start looking)

So. Woke up to this shit and I've been trying to understand how I feel about it all day. And I just need to understand what @staff 's priorities are?

You took away user icons on the desktop, implemented these "mutuals" and "followers" signifiers in notifications on mobile (haven't checked if it's on desktop yet), and you say you're trying to make this site more user friendly, especially to new users. I'm lost.

My argument isn't whether we wanted those signifiers or not, but putting them in the notifications is so cluttered. This makes those same notifications at worst impossible to access for certain users, and at best fucking annoying. Why not leave the icons alone and then introduce those signifiers beside or underneath the url on posts? I hate using this word, but it would visually be more streamlined and organized. That's just one option, but there's plenty more that are better than what has been done. I don't need to take any classes on UI/UX design to think of that.

All of these changes that frankly disregard what we have been begging to get fixed for years in preference to new people, causing beloved features to be either more difficult to access or completely disappear, is absolute bullshit. And we've already seen evidence of staff accounts openly mocking the user base, a majority of which has been here for 10+ years. We know you bitches are hiding and we'll find you again.

If you want to keep the reputation of being the good site others can seek refuge in when their social media tanks, maybe stop following the trends of currently tanking social media. And respect your users. Is that too much to fucking ask?

[Image ID: Moving on to Gil-Galad and Elrond. When Elrond says ‘you owe me that’ Gil-Galad snaps. El is not ‘owed’ anything just because he followed his king’s orders. Does Gil-Galad still listen to him in the end? Yes, because he cares for his opinion, and Elrond knows it.]

Ok so I feel like whenever someone makes a post on like…accessabiltiy surff you get a bunch of people saying like “I have (x) can I use this?” Or like a bunch of people apologizing for stuff they clearly need.

So like upfront imma say this. If big stalls improve your life in ANY way, any way at all, use them. They would not improve an abled’s life what so ever, and if it improves your life, you are 100% worthy of using it. Invisible conditions, mental conditions, just physically being too wide for a small stall, I don’t care. Use it. Everyone’s quality of life is important, including yours.

Also I know this post is long, but I don’t feel like…yk answering a bunch of questions about this so I’m gonna try and answer the ones I’m able to anticipate, but that being said, please do ask questions. Just be nice and make sure you read the whole psot first

Ok? Ok. Let’s get to the post

So this psot is specifically about the big bathroom stalls in the multi stall bathrooms. Not the signle stall family ones.

I feel like a lot of ppl who have never needed the big stall jsut don’t understand how important it is to keep it clear for someone who does need it. Because here’s the thing.

In my book? If you don’t need the stall, don’t use it under any circumstances UNLESS:

1. You are about to have an accident/be late to something important and everything else is full

2. You need to change a baby and the thin stalls are too thin for that

3. You are a caretaker for someone who does need that stall

Think of the big stall as equivalent to the bathroom of opposite gender. You wouldn’t just walk in if you didn’t apsolutly have any other choice.

(Obviously with some trans and NB ppl this either doesn’t apply or whatever but if this analogy works for some it’s worth putting it in)

Now, some ppl may read that and think that I may be too strict here. But I’m not. Here’s why.

See, what not a lot of ppl really know about us is that…when you’re the kind of person who needs that big stall, you most likely waited a long long time before getting up. Because getting up can be painful, difficult, exhausting, etc. meaning that not only could you jsut be making us wait in general, you could be making us experience a lot of pain because it fucknig hurts to hold it in. And that’s ON TOP of our preexisting conditions too

Secondly, sometimes these conditions can cause people to need to go right away! Incontinence, bladder/bowel problems reallt arnt as rare as people seam to think.

And even beyond that, my very fun nerve disorder does this thing where sometimes my bladder is completely numb and then I only realize I have to pee when I have like…15 mins max before I piss myself.

Alos, here’s a comment that actually inspired thsi psot. It’s on a quora question asking if disabled ppl should get priority for big stalls.

Some ppl may think this is reasonable—it isn’t.

1. How can you KNOW there isn’t a disabled person waiting? Not all disablities are visable

2. What if a disabled person coems in once the abled begins to use it?

Also I just wanna say again. Not all disabilities are visable. If you see an “abled” person using a accessible stall, don’t say a damn thing. Don’t. I don’t care what amazing one liner your prepared for this occasion. I don’t care about whatever vigilante justice you think you are doing. Because they are probably disabled and tired of y’all’s shit.

I know this post is being very, very angry about ppl who hog our stuff. But in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t a crime or anything outwardly horrible. The world won’t burst into flames on the off chance that person using the stall was truly abled.

All I’m asking is for people who don’t need this stall to really take in what I say and at least think about it.

Also I listed a lot of sanarios and such about us needing a stall quickly. Although that’s not true ALL the time for us, it’s ture for us wayyyy more than it is for y’all. So that’s why I put emphasis on it

For anyone who doesn’t know, I suffer from chronic fatigue, anxiety, and some weird ass nerve conditions we’re still trying to figure out. It’s definitely a huge part of why I can’t post as often as I’d like.

The creator above is my best friend and they have a bunch of crazy health conditions (including west Nile, migraines, and a benign brain tumor in the worst spot possible), all of which add up to a life of difficult mobility. They’re trying to be a disability advocate and v-tuber to help combat the shit rng they’ve gotten.

But yeah… I honestly forgot where I was going with this. So, to my fellow disabled peeps, happy disability pride month!!! I’m gonna try working on some disability pride fanart, hopefully ill actually post it before the month is over 😅

And to my able bodied mutuals, just be more open and willing to talking about disability and asking “hard” questions. I can guarantee it’s not awkward for us to talk about. It’s our day to day, there’s nothing off or weird about it. And be willing to listen. There’s a lot of things people hate on (my poor sweet yagi Toshinori) because they only view it from an able bodied point of view. Some of that really is just awesome representation of the shit we have to deal with. And sometimes it gets icky and ugly, but it’s nothing to be ashamed about. Also, don’t be afraid of it, there’s a decent likelihood that you’ll end up disabled at some point in your life: it can and does happen to anyone

I’m not gonna lie anon you’re probably gonna have to unfollow me. I do it for fun, I’m not likely to stop, and I don’t think blocking the posts will help all that much, because then what you’ll get is a dash clogged with blocked posts. Plus it’s difficult to both spam reblog a post and also tag every instance of it, especially on mobile web tumblr, which is what I use.

BRUH 🫠 IMAGINE THAT

Obviously, Azul and Vil won’t just keel over and let their seats be taken so easily 😌 but I really feel as though it’s possible for Jade and Rook to do it if given the right motivation! For example, the twins stated in episode 3 that if they “get bored” of Azul, they won’t hesitate to turn on him and challenge him for his position as dorm leader. I don’t know when or why exactly the brothers would eventually lose interest in following Azul, but if it happens then Azul will need to fend off not one, but TWO reasonably competent magicians. I think the number of enemies, combined with the help of Floyd’s UM that can deflect magical attacks, puts the twins at a significant advantage over Azul 💦

I see Rook as someone far less likely to turn on Vil for the seat, as Rook just seems content so long as he is able to view beauty. He also sees something beautiful even in traditionally horrible or ugly things, so it would also be difficult to present him with someone Vil has said or done that is so bad that it spurns him to conclude that Vil isn’t worthy of being dorm leader. (Side note: YO????? 😭 THAT PART IN EPISODE 6 WHERE THEY’RE RUNNING THE SIMULATION…………… and Fake!Rook is all like, “I cannot allow someone who has sullied the throne with such an ugly act sit on the throne of the Fairest Queen any longer”… MAN THAT WAS HOT.) Rook just challenges Vil for the fun of it because he wants to experience getting stepped on by Vil��s heels 😂 with the dorm leader seat on the line to push Vil to take their battle super seriously—but Rook gets so intense about it because of his own passion and ends up accidentally triumphant???? It’s harder for me to gauge who would come out on top between Vil and Rook, but I think Rook does have a slight advantage in that he has ranged attacks with frightening accuracy (being a huntsman and all) and is able to sneak around without detection, so there’s also the element of surprise to account for.

Both of those battles would be SO hardcore??? IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, Azul and Vil afe actually very similar. Both of them were bullied as children, but they went about proving their bullies wrong in different ways!! Azul chose revenge and accumulating mass wealth and power, whereas Vil pushed himself to transcend typecasting in an industry that heavily focuses on looks. Azul and Vil have a lot of personal stakes in their dorm leader seats and what those seats represent to them: their hard work and efforts to change themselves, and to prove their bullies and the world that they were wrong about them. I sure hope Crowley has medics on standby for these duels cuz 🤡 it sounds like it’s about to get bloody (not literally bloody, but bloody as in everyone is out to fight fiercely)…

OH MAN, and the absolute SALT that results from it???? I can’t imagine that Azul or Vil would be satisfied with being demoted 😔 I don’t know if tattling on them to someone else would do anything (what are you realistically gonna do, run???? Fight?? Nag J word and Rook? What’s that gonna accomplish? Can we really do anything to stop them????), I think Azul and Vil would be petty bitches and immediately challenge Jade and Rook for the dorm seats once they’ve recovered from their own injuries, and they’d never let up until they claw their way back to their respective crowns—

OKAY BUT ON THE SUBJECT OF DIRM LEADER JADE AND ROOK (the REAL hot shit) 😌 We’re told in the game that dorm leaders are allowed privilege to alter their own dorm uniform; I think Rook might alter the skirt of his dorm leader clothes so that it doesn’t drag across the floor??? Like, it looks elegant, but I can see why that would hinder mobility and get dirty easily. He can probably pin it up in a knot or something? I think the crown too—while iconic—could interfere with hunting, as the metallic material is reflective and could easily give his presence away; he’d probably have to remove the crown or wear some less conspicuous alternative if he intends to continue his errr… “hunting” 🤔

As for Jade, I think he’d go for a more “concealed” look to mirror his non-dorm leader clothes, with a completely buttoned jacket, or maybe just slightly unbuttoned—just enough to imply that he has something hidden up his sleeve, and by the time you realize what it is, it’s too late to escape him. I also think he’d just. Have a lot of fun with the various elements and freedoms afforded to him as dorm leader????? Maybe use the scarf to literally “rope” people in, like how Ursula uses that one strand of kelp or whatever to drag Ariel over to discuss a deal? Or utilizing the magical cane/staff to direct people’s eyes to his!

Why You Need To Stop Using The 'Read More' Feature

Got this question in a DM and wanted to answer it publicly because I do this a lot:

"Just curious, what’s your issue with read mores? Only reason I ask is because it makes tag browsing a Lot more eye-friendly and less word-wallish".

I realize a lot of people are new to Tumblr in the last few years, and therefore likely don't know this about the way Tumblr's formatted. But with the way Tumblr is set up? If you put something behind a "read more", it effectively means the ONLY accessible copy (period) will only ever be on your blog. Ever.

With the way Tumblr's built, if anything ever happens to your blog- Tumblr deletes your account (intentionally or accidentally, the later of which happens a lot more often than people think); you delete your account (maybe you just don't want to be on Tumblr anymore); even if you simply just change your username ... It's gone. Permanently.

It's gotten better these days in regards to regaining access after a username change specifically. It didn't used to be like that, however, and this is a recent change in the last couple of years. But sometimes it's still difficult, and tumblr doesn't always properly reconnect the read more to the new username.

References to the post and its content will always exist on the site, of course, because people have reblogged the main text with the read more inclusion. But clicking through the read more will no longer connect to the post. It will connect to a 404 ... There is no way to access that content ever again unless someone else has retained a copy of it outside of the read more; that content within the read more is permanently lost the second your account is gone.

As someone who lived through Tumblr's truncation era, where it would truncate a post on its own if the reblog chain got too long, and turn it into a "return link"? It literally makes it frustrating and outright impossible to engage with content (new or old, since accounts are always changing) on this site sometimes.

And y'know ... Sure. If you're a personal blog, then that's not a big deal. Who care's if your journal post is lost except maybe you. And that's good! It has a really good use, there, actually, as an additional level of safety and privacy; I 100% support its use in this instance!

But 99% of the time, what gets read-more'd isn't personal posts. It's important "long posts" with a lot of really good, often important or useful information; stuff like financial 101 info, posts about how not to be shitty Human Beings, worldbuilding info, sewing tutorials, or just general good advice and what not; etc. Things which are knowledgeable, and helpful, and should be retained.

These are often also predominantly things which mobile culture, in recent years, has started outright shaming people for making "too long" and therefore tricked people into thinking it's "a courtesy" to truncate and make as short and hypersimplified as possible when it's not; because ultimately our attention spans have gone to shit and we'd rather whine about having to scroll past longform content (which often actually isn't even that long when viewed on a proper platform and not from a phone screen) that someone we followed (presumably because we enjoyed what they repost) posted ... Rather than, say, learn a new skill or read something interesting or more engaging than the same regurgitated, simple-minded, easy to mindlessly engage with / consume bullshit we always see.

It's also an utterly asinine courtesy in the end, given the fact that Tumblr has explicitly given us the option, in recent years, to self-truncate posts very easily with a lovely dashboard setting literally called "Shorten Long Posts". A setting which people could turn on of their own volition- rather than demanding everyone else conform to their own short-attention-spanned ideas of false "courtesy" ultimately borne of shitty Mobile Dominance and a MicroTech Supremacy that needs to actively die.

Regardless of what it is exactly, anyways, this content is often stuff that deserves to be kept in the public sphere irregardless- especially if you wrote it for public access in the first place and effectively intended for it to be some kind of creative commons content to begin with. Yes, even if it's in an outdated format- and especially if there has been commentary and / or criticism added. Because people deserve the context for that commentary.

This is why you always see me automatically pull that content out of the read more and use that tag. Because there needs to be a secondary accessible copy somewhere just in case. And I will always stand by this; I will always be anti-read more and anti-mobile dominance and anti-microtech supremacy, and its affect on our internet culture. Especially after being on this site for 13+ years (and on the internet in general since I was 8).

Creators should stop putting their posts beneath read more's ... If individuals want shorter posts on their own dashes, then they can use the "shorten long post" dashboard feature themselves, that Tumblr introduced to the dashboard settings.

So Raiga is my favorite swordsman, then Kisame, then Kushimaru, and then zabuza and the Hozuki brothers.

I think that for the time before Raiga met Ranmaru when he felt empty inside, he tried everything to fill that void. Killed people in different ways, tried different hobbies, did drugs, drank, and had sex.

I think this is how we got Buntan. While I can’t imagine him r@ping someone, I can imagine him having a one night stand or visiting a brothel. Which would be why he didn’t know about Buntan. I can see him having sex with this lady, and being like “hmm this isn’t working. On to the next thing!”

I get the image of him being really awkward, too, adding to why Bun’s mom hates him. Picture it: Raiga’s in a bar, drunk, moping to another random drunk dude about how he feels like he’s dead inside. Dude says something like “well, get yourself a woman! A good shag will fix you right up!” And raiga’s like “no cap??” And the next day attempts to seduce the first woman he sees. She probably is either thinking he’s so awkward and strange he’s cute or recognizes that he’s got the swords and agrees to sleep with him bc she doesn’t want to get zapped or stabbed. Either way, they get to a room and he’s like “okay, I’m a guy and you’re a girl and we’re naked… now what?” And she rolls her eyes and is like “ugh fine I’ll do it” and then after she falls asleep post frickle frackle he’s lying awake, staring at the ceiling like “well that didn’t work.” And just leaves. I doubt the ninja schools have a good sex Ed program so it’s possible he wasn’t even thinking about a child being a consequence.

(I know someone who was part of the Amish community that when she was 15 a boy convinced her that women couldn’t get pregnant their first time and she got pregnant and was tossed out of the community. So I think it’s a situation where he knew where babies come from but didn’t connect all the dots.)

Anyway, this man found an ailing child and, while having no experience in child care, was like “well shit I can’t NOT take you with me, can I?” And they figured out a dynamic that worked. I was a special Ed teaching assistant. Caring for children (and adults) with mobility disabilities is difficult. You add that Raiga didn’t have any classes like I did on how to care for someone like that, and it’s impressive to me that he successfully managed to not only keep Ranmaru alive, but he was THRIVING and loving life! Being a parent brought Raiga deep fulfillment, so I know DAMN WELL that if he knew Buntan existed at all, let alone that her mother at the very least mentally abused her by telling her she was worthless etc, he would have grabbed her up SO FAST and been like “look, a boy and a girl, I have a matching set!”

And as everyone knows, caring for children is expensive. Raiga figured that out pretty quickly I think. He knew he needed money, a stable place to live, and that usual Anbu level ninja work was extremely dangerous. It’s probably the only work he knew, and bc he was raised to be a murdering machine, he doesn’t think “oh well I could be a cashier at a ramen shop” like a normal person. He saw the opportunity to take over the gold mine and took it. It not only gave him the means to care for Ranmaru properly, he could safely keep him on his back at all times, and do his funerals.

I think if Tsunade would have come to the mine herself, she could’ve been like “okay, if you come the Konoha, work for me and stop the funerals, we’ll let you and Ranmaru stay together in the village.” And everything would have been fine.

IMO kiri did have sex ed, like people knew about sex and pregnancy because replacing the population was a BIG DEAL, but even so completely ignorant raiga is important to me. maybe it doesn't make sense but raiga's mind is a mess in so many ways.

imagining raiga trying TO SEDUCE A WOMAN IS SO FUNNY HDKFNGJHN he checks out a book from the library and learns about pickup lines. hey girl, nice eyes, he says. the girl just stares and he stares back because he figures she's got to say something at some point, he did the thing!

his relationship with ranmaru was a trainwreck but he did take care of that boy!!! he cooked food for him, which it didn't seem like people were doing beforehand! (it's amazing ranmaru survived long enough for raiga to pick him up--the villagers who were just like here's some cold potatoes and carrots young lad! ough the iron deficiency) so i love the thought of the mom, instead of keeping her a secret, gave buntan to raiga to raise bc she didn't care to. i feel like he would have been forced to be too responsible to go around holding funerals.

"he could safely keep him on his back at all times" you're making me think about how weird it must have been for people to see him before and after ranmaru--hey buddy? you uh. you got a little something on your back there. do you think you need to go to the doctor?

i couldn't imagine konoha taking in a rouge nin at that point, because the protocol for rogue nin was pretty hard set, but i love the thought of them being around more >W<

and for the record, here's how I think Buntan's conception happened: her mom was a prostitute around Katabami, and Raiga's little clanmates were going to her brothel all the time so he decided to check it out. he only went once and cried afterwards, sex was so unpleasant for both him and the lady. she already hated him for being the leader of all these obnoxious men who keep coming around, but when she got wind of the funerals she was horrified. and then she found out she was pregnant and it was a no-win situation whoever the father was, but then the baby came out with the double-ringed blue eyes and it was such an oh no. she drank, she kept everything about raiga a secret other than that he was worthless because she was afraid if bun knew anything more she would really turn out like him. unfortunately this opened the door for shizuma to bamboozle her with talks about what a hero her dad secretly was and how she's carrying on his legacy. it was a trick! it was bait! run, buntan!!

Another really interesting theory to me is one made i think by forgivememadre, that raiga was in an unhappy arranged marriage in kiri!!! AGHH i conceptualize him as literally having lightning god ancestry, bc i love kiri nin being descended from spirits and other creatures, and kiri wanting to continue that lineage makes sense to me. ough.

he makes my brain go brrr too. he has a permanent apartment in there -w-
