Our Skyy 2 x Bad Buddy x A Tale of Thousand Stars Ep 2 Stray Thoughts
Congratulations to Bad Buddy and A Tale of Thousand Stars for getting the longest name I think I’ve done since a Japanese show.
Yesterday, we finally got to see Pat and Pran again, and I didn’t realize how much I had missed them. We entered their lives between episodes 11 and 12 to see how they’re handling keeping their relationship secret. We had some funny hijinks, but a deep melancholy rose up within me about how much being in the closet actually hurts. Pran accidentally punched Pat in the face and Pat accidentally hurt Pran’s feelings because of this façade. Still, Pat and Pran have such a physically comfortable dynamic that you have no doubt that these two are enjoying a long-term physically intimate relationship. Also, Ink and Pa are clearly a power couple now.
As for the plot, Pran needs to get permission to put on a play from the owners of the personal story, so we’re now in a crossover with A Tale of Thousand Stars. Pran is dying from being outdoors, and is also worried about leaving Pat behind. Phupha has passed out, and Tian is about to stab Pran. Also, Pran and Tian look way too much alike, and this feels very intentional.
I do like that the school was unwilling to sign off on Pran’s play without permission from the owners of the story.
Tian and Phupha are fighting about whether Tian will stay in the village!! Call Celine! Call Whitney! We need to fix this!
I like that Mix is able to hold his jaw the saw way Tian does again.
Yes, children! Let chaos reign!!
Oh, Pran says he has OCD. It’s not surprising, but now it’s something explicit.
Excellent, the gays are bonding over taking care of the kids. I was worried Tian would be beefing with Pran for the next two episodes.
Really, just Ohm, Nanon, Mix, and Earth are just way too attractive. It’s legitimately distracting.
So Tian and Phupha have been together for years at this point, just like Pat and Pran.
Pran is like all of us, reading his gay little stories on his laptop. He’s fangirling hard over every detail about Tian.
Pat made it! These two instantly started flirting. Tian noticed right away.
The eye game at this dinner is incredible. The talent Aof gets to work with these days, I swear.
Instant tears as Phupha read their story with the OST playing in the background.
Losing it over Phupha and Tian arguing instantly about who fell for who first, and Phupha claiming misrepresentation.
I like seeing Pat and Pran wrestle/cuddle, but I hope they actually used the mosquito net.
On the real, though, there’s no way Pran can help Phupha and Tian reconcile while he’s creating distance with Pat.
Oh, I’m here for Pat pointing out that he and Pran also fought about who fell first. There’s some potential here.
This water looks legitimately cold. I don’t think Nanon is acting there.
Yes, boys. Let’s revisit their steps. Cosplay as the couple you just met.

I am having so much fun with this! I am feeling so much about the Tian conversation where he laments that Phupha never compromises or bends for him. I know that had to sit with Pran, who came here alone to prove he didn’t need Pat. Very excited about us getting a four-part BB x ATOTS story. I thought the crossover was going to be a lot smaller than this. Instead, we’re getting something really compelling out of both stories.

Blowing off some love interests your own age for ones definitely not your own age.
Whitney hanging out with his friends when he spots you, and starts to make his way over. You're by Leighton's car, resting your arms on the rolled down window, talking. As if you two would have something to talk about so casually. He thinks Leighton is smirking, but can't be sure. The old fuck runs a finger over your knuckles but reaching up to touch you chin and you smile. Whitney feels his hands curls into fists and you laugh softly before standing up, smoothing down your uniform. Leighton starts up the car but idles a bit before pulling out of the parking lot, you giving the car a lasting look. You notice Whitney stare, hard and heated, so you smile before heading back to where you dumped your bag.
Robin and you walking back from school, chatting idly about the lesson you two shared when the car pulls up, his damned car. Robin grinds his teeth as the window rolls down, winning smile and looking perfect, as he woke up ready to be a smarmy son of a bitch. You wave Robin on as Avery leans closer to the window, murmuring something. He struggles not to stomp his foot like a child when Avery opens the door for you and you get in. The orphan walks slowly back to the orphanage, sunny day less warm. He spots the damned car and stops in his track at the sight of Avery kissing you, his hand tucked between your thighs.
Alex taking you to the riding school, partly for a date and partly to scope it out. He already knows how to ride a horse and cackles as you struggle, but come on, you're also giving a nervous little laugh that's very cute. He wants to show off for you, so he tells you to watch him as he rides ahead, making sure to get to keep in sight to you can see him urge his horse to jump the fallen tree trunks. Alex leads his steed through the jumps before urging her around, grinning back at where he left you before his smile dropped. Remy's pulled up beside you, even gotten down from his horse and swung up onto the saddle behind you. His stomach curdles as Remy takes your reigns from you, still shushing the unsettled horse, murmuring something to you. You're blushing but its not from the son as Remy even rests his hand on your thigh, as if to push them apart so you sat more comfortably on the saddle. His rival glances up from you and spots him, and his lips curl into a smirk before looking back at you.
Sydney was kind enough to walk you to the doctors, despite any reservations against the professions, due to one man. That same man reading off his clipboard, and smiling at you. Sydney hadn't been allowed in but the doctor hadn't shut the door all the way and now he feels like it was on purpose. Like he was daring him to watch. The doctor laughs at something and you smile before beginning to undo your shirt buttons. Sydney's fingers curl into fists. Harper fiddles with his stethoscope before placing it against your chest, the tips of his ears a vivid pink. You look at the doctor with a strange warm look and the doctor leans in to whisper something in your ear. Puts a hand on your stomach.
Kylar scurrying towards the English classroom, his satchel feeiling light in the wrong way, now that its missing his forgotten notebook, still on the floor of the classroom. He pauses in front of the door, about to turn the handle, when he looks through the slat in the door. You're with... Mister Doren. And.... And... He's touching you. Large hand pressed against your stomach, few of his fingers slipped into the shirt, stroking the skin. Your own hand is... Is... Tucked into his unzipped trousers, moving oh so slowly as you to look at each other, impish grin on your own face. Doren murmurs something, and drops a kiss against your shoulder, your other hand sneaking up to unbutton a few buttons of his own shirt, dark chest hair peeking out. Kylar shivers, takes a few steps back before fainting.
One of them rounding the corner and seeing you chatting to Mister River, the Maths teacher leaning against his doorframe, holding the books close to his side, an uncharacteristic half smile on his lips as he looks down at you. He rubs the back of his neck as you lean forward, and his eyes drop from yours, to your lips, to your throat before flicking back up. He says something about probably needing to head off now so you two aren't late.
Quinn stealing the show but having you on his arm at some event. They see you and wave you over, but you have to give an awkward smile and wave them off. Quinn doesn't notice and instead wraps his arm around your waist, pulling you in for a kiss on the cheek and you smile to yourself at it. His hand slides a bit lower and you blush. They have to stare as Quinn teases you and presses more kisses against your skin before capturing your lips.

And the NPC’s opinions on Alorhna.

(I’ll only be explaining Alorhnas relationship with the LI’s she’s currently interacted with the most!)

Black = nonexistent.
Green = neutral.
Blue = friend.

Red = enemy/threat.

Robin - childhood friend: robin is someone Alorhna grew up with and cares for in a familial way. While robin is in love with Alorhna she doesn’t feel the same way, she entertains his love and lust to keep him placated but for the most part tries to keep respectable boundaries.
When Bailey began selling Robin to the docks, Alorhna couldn’t stand idly by and took on his debt. This made robin fall even deeper in love with her, but it did make Alorhna more irritated around him and avoided him more often than not.
she still cares for him but he’s so weak-willed and it causes her to worry for his safety, especially when she sees he is very capable of paying his own bills if he really strives for it, just like any of the orphans they grew up with.
((Basically, their good friends just robins needs to stand up for himself more, Alorhna is stressed having to protect Him :D ))
Alex - friend, bestie, cowgirl.
Working on Alex’s farm while living the moors with the great hawk was the easiest way to raise money as well as have a safe place to live away from Bailey.
Alex and Alorhna quickly became Gal pals as they worked hard on the farm to develop the fields and grow in prosperity. Alex was the friend Alorhna needed during her recovery from the pain Bailey and the town had caused her.
Working on the farm with Alex helped keep Alorhna focused and helped her become stronger physically from all the labor of taking care of the animals and fields, and thanks to Alex Alorhna learned a few more things about farming and tending. She was safe space just like the great hawk.
Alex’s growing affections for Alorhna was slightly different than robin as alorhna was able to accept them a bit better but still kept a relative distance.
Eventually Alorhna would move into the farms, and continue to help rebuild the farm and fight back against remy. Living on the farm allowed Alorhna to have a peace of mind away from Bailey and still be close to the moors.
Alex helped Alorhna change the playing field, as now she was able to fight back more effectively against the cruel hand she had been dealt without fear or worry, as now she had a home and a family she could count on.
(I don’t see Alex as much of a lover as I see her as a friend. Just like most of All the NPC’s Alex falls for the Pc but she’s more than just a lover, she’s a friend, she’s family. She helps the Pc have a safe place to rest their head and continue marching forward into the fight.)
Whitney - nope. Can’t stand him.
Alorhna and Whitney simply do not get along they never have and never will. Whitney seems to have budding feelings for Alorhna but his bullying habits do nothing to assuage her to his side.
He was the cruel beginning of her bullying and one of the reasons why she couldn’t stand school at the beginning.
When alorhna returned from her period of time when she was missing and in the moors Whitney thought he could reign terror on her again, but boy was he wrong.
Alorhna had come back a force to be reckoned with. And it was a crude awakening for the boy who once had the world at his feet to be thrown down by someone he once mistreated.
(Personally don’t like Whitney, I haven’t dismissed him however as he’s a good way to raise combat fame 🤷♀️ Alorhna is very easily capable of defending herself now when she needs to especially against the likes of him so at best he’s an annoyance and nothing more)
Kylar - Alorhna isn’t quite sure what to make of Kylar, but she helps him out when she can. She feels a uneasy familiar connection to him that she can’t quite grasp yet.
Kylar seems to have an ever-growing obsession with Alorhna that is borderline dangerous at times, especially when he kidnapped her out of jealously. Alorhna managed to calm him down and placate him with her calm demeanor and voice.
But the mystery around him intrigued her quite a bit and she chose to let the incident play out. With her strong wings and nimble skill of skulduggery she could have escaped kylars manor any time she wanted, but when curiosity strikes you have to follow it right?
But the more she discovered the more she hungered for the truth. When Kylar showed her a portrait of his parents Alorhna was shocked half to death. Alorhna bears a striking resemblance to kylars mother. While Kylar seems to be completely unaware Alorhna has her own theories.
Kylar would eventually find a place in her heart when he helped build the lab in the orphanage loft, even earning a special.. reward from Alorhna for his great help.
His stalking tendencies are a little much but at least he keeps her safe from other stalkers.
((It’s my own personal head-canon that the PC and Kylar are half-siblings as it’s heavily implied when you first see the portrait of kylars family. In my AU, it’s canon that Alorhna and Kylar are siblings sharing the same mother, this doesn’t stop any lewd interactions between the two however. 🙃
While Kylar is currently unaware that Alorhna is his sister, Alorhna has already begun suspecting that Kylar may be her half-brother. ))
Great hawk - honey, love, feathered husband.
The great hawk saved alorhna when she collapsed in the moors, after having run away from Bailey, Alorhna was severely fatigued starving and dehydrated. She was very weak when but thankfully the great hawk had seen her form above and chose to save her.
He nursed her back to health in his nest in the highest tower, safe from any danger that may be searching for her.
At first Alorhna was petrified, from one danger to the next she thought she had met her end, when she arouse from her slumber to find herself stuck in a tower with no one expect a gigantic bird. At first very untrusting and unwilling she yelled in fury at the hawk.
The great hawk however was Unfazed and would bring her food from around the moors that she found most pleasing, like berries and fruits from the meadows. And as time passed Alorhna began to regain her strength and then some, being able to eat more food than she ever could at the orphanage and rest as much as her body pleased without threat of Bailey or her goons to attack her at night or of being sold to dangerous criminals to appease Baileys payments.
For the first time in her life, Alorhna felt safe.
After a few weeks Alorhna began to trust the hawk and he began to have faith in her, opening the trap door to allow her to come and go as she pleased. But she never strayed too far from the moors, adventuring to know the land better so that she may traverse between the farms and the tower that much easier.
To stay closer to the hawk whom she had begun to grow to love and care for. As time passed Alorhna became much more nimble and her voice became as sweet as honey from having been singing by the Hawks side, the hawk who saved her life and showed her that life wasn’t just about survival but also about thriving.
She wasn’t quite sure how it happened but after about two months she grew wings! Strong wings, and with her husband at her side she learned to fly.
Alorhna could have stayed at the moors forever and lived a peaceful life as a harpy. But life isn’t just survival it’s about thriving, so after a few more weeks of practicing to fly, she returned to the town.
but every few weeks when she had a break from school Alorhna would fly back to the moors to spend time with her feathered husband and bask in the safety of the moors and the freedom they granted her.
(Heheh here’s some backstory of how Alorhna became a songbird :3, if you couldn’t tell the great hawk is one of my favorites, Sydney being the first but the great hawk is a close second he’s just the best.)
Sydney - sweet angelic boy.
Sydney is the reason why Alorhna joined the temple and it’s strict rules and policies that limited her freedom. He’s been her childhood crush for years and one of her closest friends.
Sydney would always have a place in her heart for helping her find a good job to help pay baileys payments when the issue first arose and for protecting her in school when she was merely trying to study but would become the victim of bullies.
Alorhna had loved Sydney since the first day she saw his smile.
Once they made it to high school Alorhna and Sydney got that much closer, and eventually fell in love. It was a rocky road between following and respecting the temples practices and sneaking off to sin when no one was watching.
Falling deeper into love and lust and just barely skimming the edge of what they could do, of what they could be together.
When Alorhna disappeared Sydney never stopped praying for her, nor believing that she was safe and would someday return. And that she did, much more beautiful and strong than before but still he loved her at her lowest and loved her even more knowing she was safe and even stronger than when they first met.
A few weeks after her return, Sydney approached Alorhna with the intention of becoming ‘Promised’
Which alorhna proudly and excitedly accepted.
And under the light of the temple, they became
‘forever as one’

Black wolf - doggy boy. Bark bark.
Alorhna doesn’t have any strong feelings for the Black wolf, at best she sees him as a companion, at worst a big fluffy pet.
He kidnapped her when she was gathering fruits and other plants in the forest near the time of the Blood moon. It was a begrudging time for Alorhna having been stuck in the wolf cave for days due to the black wolf and many of the wolves in the pack’s infatuation with her.
She did eventually warm up to them but it’s not in her nature to be submissive. Shortly after the pack began to trust her, Alorhna challenged the black wolf and became the next pack leader, now the wolves look up to her as she manages the pack.
But As she has other responsibilities, such as the temple, managing the farm, the cafe and visiting her lovely feathered husband, she’s not around much in the cave. But she does stop by every once in a while.
((Honestly I don’t feel any one way or another to the black wolf, he just exists in the game and I just accept it, maybe I’ll write some more lore for him in my AU but for now hes just there))

Probably will edit this more in the future as Alorhna meets and interacts with more NPC’s and gets more lore and background of the town and those that reside in it.

HENFORD, Windenburg (SNN) - - Queen Katherine honored her late father, George I, at a special memorial service Tuesday on the front lawn of Sumpterson Estate in Henford.
The Service of Thanksgiving to honor His late Majesty, who died last March at the age of 61, included several poignant tributes to the late monarch including musical selections from Whitney Houston, chosen by the King himself. Several of Houston's songs were inspired by King George and Queen Rowena's wedding day, palace sources confirmed.
The monarch, 31, was joined on the front row by her husband Rainier, Prince consort and two eldest children, Prince Phillip (7) and Princess Grace (4). The 5 month old twins, Prince Michael and Prince Samuel, were not in attendance.
The monarch also honored her beloved father through her style — and she wasn't the only one. Queen Katherine opted for the blue Duchess of XVIII dress by her favorite designer, @rustys-cc, teamed with a wide-brimmed hat by the same designer, while Grace wore the navy Little Lady of Dress & Hat by the designer.
The blue hue is the color of King George's official livery. Known as "Cavalier Blue," it has been used for staff uniforms and private cars since 1992.
Queen Katherine also wore The Windsor Sapphire brooch, one of the most famous pieces amongst the Jewels of the Crown.
Her Majesty was joined by several other members of the royal family including the Earl and Countess of Boykins, and the Earl and Countess of St Peters behind her on the second row. The royals also wore shades of blue.
Rowena, Queen Mother also wore a special shade of blue, along with The Cullinan III and IV brooch that was a subtle nod to King George; said to be one His late Majesty admired the most. Attendees, including the Duke and Duchess of Kent and Princess Anna, also wore the color.
Zarah, Queen Dowager chose black to honor her late son, also wearing the Royal Family Order of George I.
Dame Whitney, a native of Brindleton Bay, performed five of her hit songs, including 'I Will Always Love You'. King George was very vocal in stating that Houston was his favorite singer, and had the star perform at the palace on three different occasions during his reign.
The multi-hyphenated singer, actress and producer was invested by His late Majesty in the Order of the Companions of Honor and created Officer of the Order of the Windenburg Empire (OWE) in 1997 for her public service to Windenburg in arts.
She then received the prestigious DWE honor, which stands for Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the Windenburg Empire, in June 2022. (seen above)
Houston is the most awarded female artist of all time. Her list of awards include 2 Olivias, 7 Gramee Awards, 16 Simsboard Music Awards, and 23 Windenburg Music Awards, amongst a total of 416 career awards.
A close friend to the royal family since the early 90s, Dame Whitney's voice "filled the memorial with love", said one guest.

Waiting to Exhale - My Take Aways
Bernadine Harris (Angela Basset) - What this always put together gorgeous housewife taught me, was to ALWAYS have your own money!!!! And no matter how comfortable you are with your man to make sure that you know what is going on financially. She taught me to not settle for second choice!!! Unlike her character in the movie who when approached by a young Wesley Snipes in a vulnerable moment, who was open to being the black mistress. She also taught me that when you get married having something of your own is smart and don’t let your man talk you out of it! And like the old saying goes lets when a woman cuts her hair change is a coming!
Robin Stokes (Lela Rochon) - This gorgeous, accomplished beauty taught me so much! Don’t think just because dude who isn’t conventionally attractive a and will give you want that you’ll be happy. In this movie I noticed that her character and many others had sex with guys who often were terrible in bed. I feel her character was probably the most sexual out of all of them and yet I she only seemed to enjoy sex with one emotionally unavailable man! I also find in the particular gif above behind her was mammy doll, even though she was clearly portrayed as a sapphire like character. I do love that they gave her some power by showing when her telling her partner the way she wanted to be kissed and being honest about what she wanted out of life. I also liked that for the most part when men weren’t performing she kicked them to the curb.
Gloria Matthews (Loretta Devine) - I love Ms. Loretta in everything I’ve ever seen her in! I loved her as the Gloria in this movie. One thing I learned from her character is that trusting your feelings and your intuition is essential to having a great love/sex life. I think in this movie she showcased herself as a loving mother who for years had put her love life on the backburner and merely focused on her business and her son. I love her vulnerability in this movie and how when confronted with her son’s father’s sexuality she NEVER allowed it to make her bitter nor did she spend too much time trying to change him. I also love when confronted about her son-husband tendencies she LET HIM GROW AND LET HIM GO!
Savannah Jackson (Whitney Houston) - While each lady got her own storyline, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say that Savannah was the main character. Like all the other accomplished ladies in the group Savannah’s love life was in the toilet! I find that she was the most honest out of all the ladies when confronting her issues with men. While she did waste just as much time as her friends on dusty men, emotionally unavailable men, she always knew they weren’t what she wanted. When confronted with what/who she thought she wanted like many of us she ignored ALL of the red flags. However, my favorite part of her character is when the 33 year old understand that she is GROWN and no longer has to carry the burdens and fears of her mother about being “alone”. She realizes that her life with a terrible two timing loser of a man is more lonely than her without a man. I adore her character.
I know this movie definitely has issues and that unfortunately some of the those issues still reign true today. Waiting to exhale is truly a classic even more can be learned from this movie. But I believe the biggest takeaway is that moving on doesn’t always look like a new relationship. Sometimes moving on is a good set of girlfriends, meaningful careers, and allowing yourself to feel the hurt, but not letting it make you bitter. Moving on doesn’t always look like your husband comes back and regrets losing you which Bernadine initially wanted, or your ex decides he wants you and was going through “a phase” which Gloria hoped the case was for her man. Letting go may mean exploring how you can experience your dream even if it’s not in a traditional way like Robin decided to do after her first experience of letting her dream go. Letting go may even mean that we have to admit we’ve been the *sshole and accept where we went wrong like Savannah did when she took accountability when confronted with the bs she has initially been accepting. The women despite the title of the movie, didn’t wait to exhale, they there lives back and took a deep breath and moved on! They let go and when they did everything flowed in perfect 90s harmony. Enjoy the movie guys if you haven’t watched it already be sure to.

I wanna ramble about my hc of Larry being a gym leader in Johto for a second so excuse me please--
He was originally sought out by the Johto league while still living in Unova. Grimsley had just taken the spot on the Elite Four so the family was actually back in the news for a while, which means Larry was, too. A lot more trainers were talking about him and their battles against him; mainly in the context of "I just battled Grimsley's brother!" So the Johto league wanted to scout him out to join their gym line up. They had an opening coming up soon. And he's a normal type specialist, exactly what that gym was equipped to handle. And they've heard a lot of positive things about his strength as a trainer and his team at the time. So they tracked him down and offered him the position. He only accepted because of the hourly wage and battle commissions, which is a valid reason to accept a job.
Larry was already familiar with Johto. He'd been there plenty of times growing up because it's where his mom is from, his grandparents lived there when they were still alive, and at this time his uncle was the owner of the old estate. He was not nervous about the move whatsoever. He knew his way around like half the region and he had one trustworthy family member to not feel homesick. I mean he was like 20, he was young at this time, still figuring out life. Anyway, Larry felt comfortable at the start.
For the remainder of the previous gym leader's time until his retirement in less than a month, Larry actually caught and trained several normal type Johto pokemon with him. It was a specific request by the league that he use some pokemon native to this region instead of his Unovan team. Which made sense. It would make the challengers feel less intimidated; afterall Watchdog, Herdier, Audino, and Bouffalant aren't native to Johto! The only exception to this was Staraptor, getting to be used with higher level trainers to give them an extra challenge. It's actually something he asked for personally. His main Johto team for the gym is as follows: Furret, Smeargle, and Dunsparce. Blissey, Granbull, and of course Staraptor were often reserved for those higher level trainers. Sometimes, though, some trainers would specifically ask about his Unovan team wanting to battle them instead. It was pretty rare he would agree to it. He still had to follow the league's rules even though he technically had full reign over the gym and was his own boss, the league more so being a moderator to make sure things were fair and running smoothly.
When he finally got full control of the gym and took on battles, he didn't exactly stand out much. He was like every other gym leader. Besides taking the job to heart that is. He was merely conducting his position as gym leader according to how the league told him to plus as freely as he wanted to to as well. He did his job as efficiently as possible. In trainer surveys about his performance the average answer was always something along these lines "He lacks the energy that the others have, but he was still a challenge so it was still a lot of fun. I'm more than eager to rechallenge him in the future." His title was "A man of silver in a golden city"— which was supposed to be a reference to his lack of enthusiasm while living in such a lively city like as Goldenrod.
He was only the gym leader of Goldenrod for almost exactly six years. He left it all to Whitney, seeing her as ready and strong enough now. He was getting married soon, his soon to be wife wanted to move back to her home region of Paldea as she simply missed it, and he honestly didn't mind the change. He already had a job offer from the Paldean league which he was ready to accept as well as applying to a second job due to the lower wage and half the battle commissions going towards the league. Admittedly, he did enjoy his time in Johto. He grew to care for his new team a lot, while still caring for his other pokemon, too. He accepted the Paldea job pretty easily thanks to his positive experience in Johto.

The Tale of the Golden Snail (a Fairy Tale from the East with Curse element in it)
Before going deeper, I want to say that CPC depictions is lacking eastern (Asia and Africa - and maybe southern America as well?) fairy tales that depicted on the media - the closest of the eastern tale depiction is the magic lamp from "Aladdin" which is from middle east asia. Jack finds the Braided Island that inhabitants with people with appearance that different than him, is also similar with how westerner see easterner folks [which either got amazed by their exotic appearance or horrified with them to point of being racist]. It's a shame IMHO because as someone from East, I want to say that Eastern Fairy Tales is a giant gem box that ready to be explored.. Especially from my own country, there's many fairy tales with curses on their story - like becomes animal (monkey, snail etc), petrified to becomes a stone (Malin Kundang) or born cursed (example, has face of a gourd). I like to introduce my own country and it's culture but without being posh doing it, slow and honest introduction by said my country as Batik Kingdom - islands based Kingdom from faraway place from the continent where Plaid-Pastel-Polygon Kingdom resides. I am headcannon-ing that Frederick reads fairy tale from faraway continent as well, based on ep 34:
Well, let's move on to next topic which is about the Golden Snail Tale!
Once upon a time, Daha was a prosperous kingdom under Prabu Kertamerta's reign (Prabu means a king in English). He had two beautiful daughters: Galuh Ajeng and Candra Kirana.
When these two princesses had come of age, a crown prince from the Kahuripan kingdom came to propose a marriage. Raden Inu Kertapati was a handsome, strapping crown prince from a prosperous kingdom, so Prabu Kertamerta welcomed him and accepted his proposal.
Despite Princess Galuh Ajeng being the eldest, Raden Inu Kertapati chose Princess Candra Kirana. It rose Princess Galuh's wrath. She plotted a devious plan to expel Candra Kirana from the palace so she couldn't marry Raden Inu Kertapati.
She sought an evil witch to cast a spell on her sister. She wished Candra Kirana became so disgusting that no one wanted to get near. Not long after that, the witch cast a spell on Candra Kirana to become a keong emas (a golden snail). Before she threw the snail into the river, she told the princess the curse could only be broken by meeting Raden Inu Kertapati. [Note: the curse is broken not by "True Love's Kiss" but could simply by meeting the beloved, this nice insight]
In another version of this tale, the one that cursed as golden snail actually a queen which got cursed as bad karma by bad mouthing a 'magical' golden snail that she founds at the street. I take the most popular version instead because the character's name fits better ("Kirana"). Kirana is my OC of my planned multiple chapters fanfic series, her summarized backstory as the following: A witch cursed her to becomes a golden snail every night and teleported her to far away place (similar with Thermidora's story) - the Male Monastery site.
Kirana meets Whitney and they're platonically becomes close - her ideal that every curse could be broken eventually leads Whitney to becomes a curse breaker [which very important as being the one that recognize Frederick's curse properly]. Meanwhile Kirana go to get more informations and money so she could return to her kingdom someday, by becoming a journalist/reporter. This will be important plot point later on

One day, a poor old lady caught a snail on her fishing net. When she saw it was a beautiful golden snail, she brought it home and kept it in a crock (an earthenware pot).
The next day the old lady went fishing. Unfortunately, she only caught a few fish. She was devastated because she could only buy a bit of rice. Imagine her surprise when she found plenty of food on her dining table. Feeling so hungry, she ate them without asking questions. Since this bizarre experience occurred every day, one day, the old lady pretended to go fishing. Then, she sneaked back into her hut and found a beautiful maiden cooked and cleaned.
She immediately confronted the maiden, who happened to be the cursed Princess Candra Kirana. As soon as the princess told her story, she became Keong Emas (golden snail) again. That's the beginning of the friendship between Candra Kirana and the old lady.
In the meantime, the news of the missing princess spread throughout the kingdom of Daha. Feeling that she had no other competitors, Princess Galuh Ajeng tried her hardest to replace her sister as the bride of Raden Inu Kertapati.
However, since Raden Inu Kertapati was deeply in love with Candra Kirana, he set off on a journey to find her. Knowing this, the evil witch shapeshifted into a crow and followed him.
When the crow talked to him in human language, Raden Inu Kertapati was amazed. He believed it was a magical creature that could help him found Candra Kirana. So, he followed the crow's leads. He didn't realize that the crow led him further away from Candra Kirana.
One day, Raden Inu Kertapati met an elderly, who asked for some food. Being the kind person he was, the prince happily shared his food. It turned out that the elderly was a wise man; who knew the evil crow had tricked the prince. So, as a payback to the prince's kindness, he hit the crow until it evaporated into a puff of smoke. Then he told him where to find Candra Kirana.
Thus, Raden Inu Kertapati set off to Dadapan village. It was a long journey. Several days later, the prince ran out of provisions, so he approached the closest house to ask for water. Imagine his delight when he saw Candra Kirana was cooking in there. He rushed into the house, and their reunion broke the curse.
Soon the couple returned to the kingdom of Daha and told the misfortune of Candra Kirana. Afraid of King's wrath, princess Galuh ran to the woods. That's the last time anyone heard of her.
In the end, Raden Inu Kertapati and Candra Kirana lived happily ever after. They invited the old lady to live in the palace and took care of her.

Endling is the word for the last of a species, the last of their kind. They’re often named - notable examples are Lonesome George the tortoise, Toughie the frog, Benjamin the Thylacine and Martha the Passenger Pigeon.

39. Shock-white.
Hair going white from shock (hi Percy) seems to be caused by your fight-or-flight response going into way overdrive. See, when your sympathetic nervous system is engaged, it turns off functions that take energy away from immediate survival - it’s why your throat goes dry and you don't feel hungry when stressed, bc digestion is a huge energy sink. And it seems like it can sometimes go bonkers and just. Stop producing pigment, too. Apparently the pigment can sometimes resume production. Fun fact, I had a prof who went white in his early 20s! He's since passed but was the absolute coolest ;;

One of the de Rolo children's favorite books growing up (bar Whitney, she thought it too sad) was one about endangered and rare creatures, magical and benign. It was an old book, one Frederick had grown up with actually, so many of the species listed were now extinct. One entry, about a single surviving frog, forever calling for a mate and never hearing a reply, stuck with Cass and came back to her during the Briarwoods' reign. She found that old book.
We have to remember there was a period where each of them likely thought themselves the last de Rolo. Had to plan accordingly. I imagine Cass did her best to stow away family records and portraits, where the Briarwoods wouldn't destroy them and mildew wouldn't ruin them. Recited her family tree when she could - as a calming strategy (as I use in New portraits) and just to make sure they wouldn't be forgotten. Percy lost two years, so by the time it really hit him he was less focused on preservation and more on vengeance - he didn't try to remember because it hurt too much. But it crossed his mind that, maybe, he might need to give up the name if those on the List were too powerful and his vengeance was half-made. Go into hiding and become a secret de Rolo.
(Even once they found eachother, neither considered the possibility of more de Rolos, of another generation, until Vex and Percy eloped, and then it was a moment of o h. Oh, oh there is a future. I'd like to think Percy did away with the secrecy early just to tell her, because this is their family and she should know that Vex is a de Rolo, now, too. There's one more. They're not alone anymore.)
I HC that the family actually goes shock-white fairly easily - it pops up a fair deal in their mother's side, perhaps with an aunt who had an accident on horseback who went white at a similar age Percy did.
In AUs where Vesper isn't planetouched/an Aasimar, I could see her hair going white due to a fairly mild trauma compared to Percy's or Cass' - say, idk, a brush with illness, or a single fairly shitty day. It DOES scare the hell out of Percy to see Vesper's coming in white, though, and there's a period where he's on a crusade through the castle to find out what could have happened under his nose to do this to her. He doesn't know that it could be a mild thing. Once his fears are settled, though, Percy feel a lot better about his own hair, the thought it's not necessarily a mark of his trauma, that it could have gone white anyways.

the best chart show of all time
okay this is for @necroissants who asked what the SWR1 Hitparade is, and i've decided to reply like this because i love talking about this and will take every opportunity to do so.
idk why i'm doing this in english but this is chaotic enough for all of tumblr, so...
SWR1 Hitparade is a chart show, hosted by a radio station in south west germany, that's based completely on audience votes. it's been on since 1989 and has since become an annual event. voting starts in october and the songs are played the last week of october (this year it's from 24th-28th). they play around the clock and only interrupt the show for ads and for the hourly news cast (or for, like, traffic emergencies). that means they usually play more than 1000 songs.
the best thing: ANYONE can vote for ANYTHING. which means, if you're in, idk, australia, you can vote. everyone has 5 votes, and you have to vote strategically, because your #1 song gets 5 points from your vote, your #2 song gets 4 points, and so on.
but when i say you can vote for anything, i do mean ANYTHING. old classic? obscure jazz? pop song from your childhood? joke song? all fair game!
... of course, that doesn't mean that your obscure jazz fave will be played or even in the top 2000 songs (that's the number of songs on the list they published last year). but what it does mean: the most batshit absurd, entertaining chart show with amazing music.
highlights:
if it gets enough votes, they'll play a certain song several times, because the regular/live/unplugged/cover versions all count as different songs. (looking at you, hotel california)
songs that usually get a shorter version to play on radio, or don't get played on radio at all because of their length, get played full-length. that means all the dire straits, deep purple, ac/dc, metallica, and pink floyd songs that are 10 minutes or longer get played. yes, even pink floyd's shine on you crazy diamond. full length. 26 minutes. and jethro tull's full 44 minutes of thick as a brick.
(that's one of the reasons this program is really loved by classic rock fans)
but you can get anything in there! helene fischer, pink, die toten hosen, sting, snow patrol, elton john, die ärzte, zaz, udo lindenberg, udo jürgens, katie melua, johnny cash, whitney houston, linkin park, twisted sister, aretha franklin, britney spears... literally anything... nathan evans' version of the wellerman song made it into the top 20 last year!
most hilarious consequence of this (for me) was a couple of years ago when they played stern des südens by fc bayern united, followed immediately by bayern by die toten hosen. comedy at its finest!
they also play like. biene maja. and karl der käfer. and there's a song, about one-and-a-half minutes long, sung by an animated monkey and horse, singing about bananas and oats. it's a cult classic. it always makes it into the top 10.
also: i really wish more people knew about this but as a consequence of how fucking regional this still is, there are several songs that are INCREDIBLY south (west) german... mir im süden by füenf, das badnerlied AND das württemberger lied (both regional hymns from, like, the 19th century), oinr isch emmr dr arsch by schwoißfuaß...
the top 10 stay mostly unchanged most of the time. the battle for top 1 has been largely fought out between bohemian rhapsody and stairway to heaven for years now. (queen's been #1 steadily since the movie came out but it's always pretty close, and before the movie there was a long reign of led zeppelin.)
there's always surprises, though! last year abba's don't shut me down (which had only been released about 4 weeks before voting started!) came in at #9!
as with many things, i've only come to really apprecciate this since i've moved out of sw germany, but i know it's a HUGE deal for many families there... and for some years, now, for me, too. there are stories about people basically not sleeping because they wait for their favourite song... because you have never experienced FOMO until you've stayed up til 1am, only to wake up the following morning to realise they've played one of the songs you voted for twenty minutes later.
it's completely unhinged. it's amazing. it's one of the highlights of my year.
