#WHY DID THEY KILL OFF KARLI

Bucky Barnes is the best super soldier
How it was subtly emphasized in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier:
He always holds back
With the Flag Smashers and even with John Walker. We could see the difference in the last 3 episodes. Sebastian Stan did an incredible job making it clear in a subtle way.
Tumblr media
I want to mention that famous "Stay there" scene, and how it was visible Bucky was not punching as hard as he can in the fight with John.)
This is the thing about Bucky, he isn't after the kill, he just does his part. He doesn't try to show off his skills or that he is a good guy. He doesn't try to play the victim role, either. In the scene where Zemo fake-activates the Winter Soldier in Madripoor, he just makes a point. He's obviously not even trying hard.
If he wanted those in the club dead, they would be. But his self control was wow. Sebastian acted so well, his exes said everything.
Tumblr media
*And to be honest, even when he was TWS, he could have killed everyone, but he didn't. He could have killed all of the Avengers in Civil War is they were his mission, but they weren't. This is how Natasha survived when she met him, too. It depended on what kind of mission he had (if he wasn't allowed to be seen, then the witnesses would die too, but otherwise? He didn't bother).
2. His skills
People tend to forget how smart and good at making strategies Bucky is. He's been fighting (even though he hates fighting and never wanted to be in the army) for years before he was even captured by Hydra. And this is the reason why government still want him, after all. They can use his strategies as a leader (*cough* Thunderbolts *cough*).
In the last episodes of TFATWS, we could see how he outsmarted everyone. Karli was so terrified of him.
Tumblr media
3. Karli Morgenthau
And talking about Karli, the phone call was interesting:
She asked him if he's not tired of fighting for the wrong side, and then told him she's fighting for something bigger than herself.
"And with all the bodies you've collected, have you ever been able to say the same?"
The first thing I wanna point out is how everyone talks about the deaths Bucky caused when he was controlled by Hydra, but everyone ignores the fact that all the Avengers killed far more, but since we consider them the good side, we just don't care.
Clint, Tony, Steve, Wanda etc. They all cause(d) far more deaths than "two dozen" (known assassinations - to quote Natasha), and neither was controlled. The double standards are something else, especially for Clint. (One of the reasons why Tony was on the other side in CW was because of his guilt, after all.)
The second point is how Bucky's answer says a lot more than we might realize at first:
"You don't think I ever fought for something bigger than myself? That's all I ever tried to do, and I failed twice."
Even as TWS, Bucky had to be convinced he is on the right side, that what they do is to save the world, to give "the world the freedom it deserves".
Even brainwashed and put to sleep all the time, he had to be lied to. Bucky as TWS was a victim too. He is not a victim only because he didn't have memories or control, but also because they lied to him and used him as a toy. That milk scene is so loud. (And I am gonna talk about it in a different post). He had no rights, no choices. He was used to being tortured.
[And I wish they explored it more. We deserved and deserve a WS film - maybe with him in Romania getting back his memories, writing in his journal etc.]
"You think your cause justifies all this death, but in the end, the nightmares won't go away. You're gonna remember all the ones you killed. Trust me. Don't do this. Don't go down this path."
Despite being on opposite sides, Bucky still said this to Karli, trying to help her, to make her see the big picture, sharing how he felt and feels.
He is on "the right side". He is a hero, and Bucky being thanked by that man for saving everyone's life was touching.
Tumblr media
4. Baron Zemo
You can see how smart, strong, and rational Bucky is when he decides to break Zemo out of jail (his plan was amazing too), risking so much (his relationship with Wakanda people and his own freedom) to get his help for the mess. He puts the cause above his own (huge) trauma. And this makes that moment in Madripoor even more disgusting (he is treated as an object, as a toy):
Zemo: Tell us what you know about the super-soldier serum. And I give you him, along with the code words to control him, of course. He will do anything you want.
The way he keeps his composure, reacts and manages the situation... absolutely incredible!
This conversation also says a lot:
Zemo: The desire to become a superhuman cannot be separated from supremacist ideals. Anyone with that serum is inherently on that path.
Bucky: Maybe you're wrong, Zemo. The serum never corrupted Steve.
Zemo: Touché. But there has never been another Steve Rogers, has there?
Tumblr media
Bucky positions himself below Steve, who's considered a good hero, a good person... like no other. But Steve never had to go through what Bucky did: from being kidnapped like that, to being tested on, to falling off the train, to being tortured, and used, and brainwashed for decades, and put to sleep when he was not needed and having n "keepers".
Also, interesting how all Steve wanted was to fight (for a good cause, but still)... and fighting still means violence, meanwhile Bucky never wanted to fight, not even before becoming TWS, in the army (and yet he is still great at fighting. And he is deadly, even when he holds back.). All he wanted was peace.
Despite not getting the "perfect serum", despite being brainwashed, put to sleep, and forced to fight for decades, he is still himself. He never gave in to the dark side for real. He fought in his own way. The first thing he did when he woke up was to choke the Hydra guy with a whole new arm!
Bucky is so underrated: from his intelligence and fighting skills, to how human he is. Being flawed, keeping his sassiness and charm from the 40s, but getting more mature and carrying his past on his shoulders... he's so relatable and real. And every day, he shows Zemo he is wrong.
The show he makes in his final scene with Zemo is absolutely fantastic. He doesn't just prove the point he isn't defined by the serum and Hydra (AND not even by Steve, thanks to Sam. His speech made him realize the important thing about himself: that he decides who he is, not others - even those who know him before becoming TWS- "And this might be a surprise, but it doesn't matter what Steve thought. You gotta stop looking to other people to tell you who you are." parallel to "Steve believed in you. He trusted you. He gave you that shield for a reason. That shield, that is… that is everything he stood for. That is his legacy. He gave you that shield, and you threw it away like it was nothing. [...] So maybe he was wrong about you. And if he was wrong about you, then he was wrong about me."), but also that he is superior.
Tumblr media
When Zemo tells him that he decided to let him alive (probably so he can kill Karli) and basically calls him a killing machine: "programmed to kill", Bucky plays the role, lets Zemo talk him into killing Karli, and then Bucky watches him waiting for his own death.
[Also, Bucky's line: Imagine my relief is hilarious.]
The acting was incredible: the shock on Zemo's face and the amusement and somehow relief on Bucky's after he pulls the trigger and lets the bullets fall... He proved him he's THE standard of the super soldier. Because despite everything he went through, he is the best.
Zemo telling him to cross his name off felt like a fresh start (+ telling Nakajima the truth).
5. John Walker
John, on the other hand, is lucky Bucky is an understanding person. He gets what is like... the pressure, the environment, the loss, and even tries to help.
Bucky: Don't go down that road. Believe me, it doesn't end well.
John: I'm not like you!
Of course he is not like Bucky, because Bucky has control. He is not killing to get revenge in a cynical way.
"That serum doesn't exactly have a great track record."
John kept judging Bucky every time they spoke, somehow placing himself above this "broken" man.
"This is all really easy for you, isn't it? All that serum runnin' through your veins. Barnes, your partner needs backup in there. Do you really want his blood on your hands?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is so wrong on every single level, especially because Bucky didn't choose to take the serum, and he always had his friends' back. He's loyal and ready to sacrifice himself.
The "funny" part about this is John ending up taking the last super soldier serum vial. All the judgement, the disgust, the patronizing tone, just to do that. Plus, of course, to kill someone with the shield.
(John proves Zemo's point about super soldiers, and Bucky does the opposite.)
And what is it easy for Bucky anyway?
He's under government conditions (so CACW coded), he has a vibranium arm that I bet the government would try to take after he dies (HOPEFULLY WHEN HE'S 200 YEARS OLD IN HIS BED, as Sebastian wants too) if he isn't in Wakanda, he is haunted by nightmares (which also can mean he is still Hydra's TWS in another universe as we found out from Strange), and he has to learn how to live for real. He's smart, charismatic, has values and principles, and he's incredible.
Tumblr media
We need to see his version of TWS going after everyone Hydra helped. TWS is him, a part of him, and doing that on his terms, having control over it would help him heal.

I said I'd never do jumblr content again and yet here I am because this keeps coming up and it's like the only thing I can think about. That said I will not hesitate to turn off reblogs if y'all are horrible in the notes again, and be warned that I will be blocking anybody who supports any of the theories I mention immediately
There is no such thing as a conspiracy theory that isn't antisemitic. There is no such animal
Antisemitic conspiracy theories go back thousands of years. The ones that still have the most hold on culture to this day are the blood libel, and the protocols of the elders of zion
The blood libel was an accusation that would be brought against Jewish populations in Europe often but especially around Passover claiming that we were killing Christian children for ritual purposes, usually to use their blood for baking matza or other nonsense (it is important to me that you know that this is nonsense. It is horrible and damaging but also to the core a ridiculous lie that never at any point made any sense. They just didn't care). Debatably this trope is present in the merchant of Venice. Undebatably Jews were killed because people did and still do sincerely believe this
The protocols of the elders of zion is a fictitious document published in Russia at the very beginning of the 20th century, supposedly detailing the meetings of the Jewish people who secretly run the world. The protocols were almost immediately proven to be a rip off of another document - ah, plagiarism - but that hasn't stopped antisemites from embracing it wholeheartedly (special thanks fuck you to Henry Ford for publishing them in his newspaper, spreading it across the USA). It built on previous antisemitic tropes, from the greedy banker trope (Jews were forced to be money lenders in medieval Europe as it was forbidden in Christianity and Jews weren't allowed to join any guilds, preventing them from making money in any other capacity - the reason why there are so many Jews in Hollywood is identical, but in the early 20th century) to the concept of dual loyalty (i.e. Jewish are loyal to ourselves above all else and cannot be trusted to be loyal to the country where we live, see: modern trope that every Jew is probably loyal to Israel and the subsequent idea that it's okay to ask every single diaspora Jew how they feel about Israel immediately upon meeting them). It's also worth noting that the word cabal, used to denote the shadowy organizations that supposedly control the world, comes from kabbala, which is Jewish mysticism
The idea of lizard people, created by a guy literally named Icke because he is a gross human being, was designed to repackage the antisemitic shadow cabal concept to be supposedly more palatable
Most qanon theories also build on all of this, such as world leaders preying on children (remember pizzagate?)
But more importantly conspiratorial thinking always positions you as the good guy standing against a mysterious "them", an other which is influencing things behind the scenes. The Jew is the ultimate other, and specifically an other that supposedly forms a shadowy world government, controlling everything and yet somehow not managing to get rid of antisemitism (see: protocols of Zion, lizard people, we control Hollywood and the government which is of course conspiring against you). There is no way to decouple the idea of an evil shadowy organization (usually also referred to as a cabal to really hammer it in) from antisemitism and antisemitic tropes
And this means that even supposedly "harmless" conspiracy theories attract antisemites and train people who aren't necessarily rabid antisemites to confirm those kinds of biases. Obviously Qanon and lizard people are antisemitic, but what does the moon landing have to do with Jews? Well, it was Hollywood and the government that faked it, obviously. Hell, even the conspiracy that Taylor Swift is secretly a lesbian and is either still secretly dating or is exes with Karlie Kloss is riddled with antisemitism -
Okay so I need to explain my position on this because I fucking hate this conspiracy theory, and the fact that most people simply won't acknowledge that that's what it is. Firstly, Taylor Swift has stated that she is not gay or considers herself an ally at least three times off the top of my head, and specifically denied that she was dating Karlie Kloss. Secondly, outing people is wrong. Thirdly, the conspiracy theory hinges on the idea that she would be risking her career by coming out, except that she's proven that basically no controversy can come in the way of her career, she's already "come out" as an ally, donated to glaad and the equality act, promoted queer musicians & artists & designers (there was a song in the reputation tour that was dedicated to a gay designer every single night of the tour). So what's stopping her from coming out at this point? Mysterious forces, clearly. The antisemitism in that I've already explained, but also the virulent antisemitism among Kaylor shippers aimed at her husband and at the fact that she converted to Judaism is fucking disgusting
Again: even a supposedly harmless conspiracy theory leads to antisemitism and attracts antisemites
A few years ago I tried to rewatch white collar cause I remembered really enjoying that show as a preteen and after around a season I just couldn't stand it anymore, because all I wanted to do was jump into the universe and yell at Mozzie to shut the fuck up because these conspiracy theories were barely presented as a joke and never challenged even once by any of the characters. When I rewatched that 70s show it also fucking sucked, but at least it wasn't showing up in every single episode. The blacklist focuses entirely on a literal Cabal, that's what they're called
This stuff is so normalized and it's fucking everywhere and it's exhausting. Jews are to this day being murdered over this. I can't change the world by myself, unfortunately, but if you don't have a specific person to blame for your troubles, shut the fuck up. Just shut up. There is no conspiracy against you. Sometimes life just sucks. Or definitely does for the Jews who get shot at over this shit
Again, I'll be blocking anybody who parrots this bullshit in the comments but especially fucking gaylors y'all are one of the main reasons that being a fan of Taylor Swift's music is fucking unbearable. Just accept you can connect to music made by somebody different than yourself it's not that difficult of a concept

all this love - bucky barnes x reader
Tumblr media
I took all this love I found, and I hope that it's enough Is it enough? - only love by pvris
Plot: After John Walker oversteps, Y/N makes sure that her boyfriend Bucky knows just how much she loves him. Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Female!Reader  Warnings: John Walker being an asshole, some violence (not from Bucky), slightly graphic mentions of injuries and blood, a few mentions of Bucky’s past as The Winter Soldier, and the anxiety/self doubt he has afterwards. As always, if I miss any triggers please let me know! Notes: Some of you may know but I love PVRIS, and I love this song, so of course I had to write something for Bucky using it. Not beta’d, so any mistakes are my own. Also, thanks again to @staticscreenwriting / @astartothemoon for my dividers!
Y/N scans the room, keeping an eye out for Karli and the other Flag Smashers. As she does, she suppresses a sigh. She loves accompanying Bucky and Sam on their  missions and helping them as best as she can, but this time it’s different. For once, she can’t wait to get home. Mostly because of their company - John Walker.
At first, she tried to be civil, even though she, like the others, doesn’t agree with him being made Captain America. And Lemar is friendly enough. But John’s done nothing but be annoying and rude to them all ever since they joined forces. At least once this is over, they can forget he ever existed.
Right now, John’s complaining about something yet again, angrily pacing around as he does. “John, just calm down. We’ll find Karli soon.” Y/N insists. Immediately, John stops, his head whipping round angrily. Despite how annoyed he makes her, the glare John gives her at that moment strikes fear into her heart.
“Don’t do that Y/N. Don’t fucking patronise me. You have no idea of the pressure I’m under.” He warns. As soon as he takes a step towards her, Bucky and Sam are by her side, ready to shield her if needed. Bucky’s face hardens angrily.
“She wasn’t patronising you, John. And you better watch your tone. Don't talk to my girlfriend like that.” Bucky warns, his eyes narrowing slightly. However, instead of backing off, John keeps going, this time turning his attention to Bucky.
“Or what? Are you going to go all Winter Soldier on me?” He scoffs. Bucky visibly tenses at John’s words. Protectively, Y/N steps forward, reaching out for Bucky’s hand. “This is really easy for you, isn’t it? All that serum running through your veins.” John continues, not caring about the obvious effect his words are having on Bucky.
“Watch your fucking tone….” Y/N hisses. Yet John ignores her warning, continuing his verbal tirade on Bucky.
“I mean, does anyone here really trust him after what he did? Who’s to say he’s not working with them, or that he won’t try to kill us too?” Y/N’s anger grows, and she tightens her grip on Bucky’s hand.
“John.” Sam warns. Bucky opens his mouth, about to defend himself.
“What? Don’t act like you don’t agree. He’s a monster who doesn’t deserve to be here.” And with those words, Bucky’s face falls. He turns and looks at Y/N, his eyes shimmering with tears. The sight breaks Y/N’s heart. Before she can say anything, Bucky turns and storms off.
“Bucky! Bucky, wait!” Y/N calls after him. Just as she’s about to go after him, John’s smug voice sounds once more.
“I don’t know why she’s going after him. He’s not worth it. She’s too good for someone like that, anyway.” He murmurs, clearly intending for her to hear him. Y/N’s blood boils, and her fist clenches.
“Y/N….” She registers Sam’s voice beside her, warning John to be quiet, and for her to control her anger before she does something she regrets. And for a moment, she considers doing just that, and simply going after Bucky. Yet, John’s next words seal his fate.
“Besides, I’m a much better choice. At least I’m not a murderer.” Y/N turns around, marching right up to John. He sneers at her, the look making her stomach churn. But she’s too blinded by anger to think about that right now. “See, she understands-” John’s words are cut short by Y/N’s fist connecting with his nose. A sickening crack fills the room, and John hisses as blood begins to pour from his nose. “You fucking bitch.” He hisses, lunging for her before being pulled back by Lemar in the nick of time, whilst Sam pulls her back, protectively grasping her arm.
“Say that shit about my boyfriend again, and I’ll end you.” She warns, her voice like venom. Sam’s voice sounds again, telling her to choose her next words carefully. Of course, she knows he’s right, but she ignores him, too angry to even think straight. “He never chose to be a killer, but you chose to be an asshole.” She blocks out whatever the rest of John says, consumed by her desire to find Bucky safe and well.
“I’m going to go find him. Can you deal with…that?” She gestures vaguely in John’s direction, and Sam nods.
Y/N visits several places to try and find Bucky: a park, a number of coffee shops and bars, searching high and low for the brunette super soldier she loves more than anything in the world. And yet, there’s no sign of him. With each failed sighting, Y/N’s stomach churns more and more with anxiety, and her heart pounds more and more. Bucky is fast, and he could be anywhere by now. The next time she sees John, she’s going to do more than break his nose. Suddenly, her phone starts ringing, and for a moment, her heart almost stops, thinking it’s Bucky.
When she sees Sam’s name flash up on her caller ID, she can’t help feeling disappointed. But she knows Sam is Bucky’s friend too, and he wants to help find him just as much as she does.
“Any sign of him?”
“Nope. Checked everywhere nearby I could think of. Any news on your side?”
“None yet.” He replies, and she sighs. “Look, I’ll take the wings and see if I can find him. You go to the house and see if he’s there.”
“Okay.” Sam can immediately pick up on the anxiety in her voice, and he sighs.
“Y/N. We’ll find him, alright. I promise.”
“I hope you’re right.”
Tumblr media
As soon as she steps into the house she shares with the boys, Y/N immediately senses that someone is there. Her heart rate picks up. Bucky. Maybe he’s here. “Bucky? Babe, are you there?” She calls. “It’s just me.”
“Go away.” A quiet, yet familiar voice calls. Despite how much her heart wrenches at the sound of pain in his voice, Y/N breathes a sigh of relief. He’s here, and safe. Y/N immediately sets off towards his voice, quickly texting Sam to let him know that Bucky’s okay. Bucky sits huddled beside their bed, curled up into a ball. He doesn’t even look up at her when she enters. The sight makes Y/N feel like a hundred daggers have been stabbed into her. She kneels down in front of him, gently placing her hand on his knee.
“Bucky, sweetheart, it's me.”
“I said, go away.” Bucky’s voice is muffled, but she can tell he’s been crying. Her eyes fill with tears, and she has to stop herself from finding John and punching him all over again. The fact someone like him, someone so rude and cruel, could make someone like Bucky feel so awful about himself infuriates her. “John’s right. I’m a monster. I don’t deserve anything good, especially not you.” Bucky sniffles, and Y/N’s heart breaks all over again.
“No, you’re not Bucky. What you did all those years, it wasn’t you. They tortured you and brainwashed you. It wasn’t your choice.” She insists. “The serum never corrupted Steve, but it didn’t corrupt you either. They made you a killer. It wasn’t your choice.” Bucky looks up at her then, the skin around his eyes red from crying. Y/N’s face softens. “You’re making amends and showing people you’re sorry. That says a lot about you. John has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about. He’s just an asshole.”
“But the serum is still in me. W-What if I hurt you?”
“You could never. All you’ve done is show me love and support. Honestly, I don’t think you’ve got an evil bone in your body.” Bucky takes her hand, squeezing it tightly, which Y/N returns. Even before they got together, Bucky has supported and protected her through it all, and now it’s her turn to do the same.
“You still deserve someone better. Someone who isn’t as broken and messed up as me. I thought I wasn’t good enough for you ever since we got together, and even John sees it, too.” Y/N leans in, gently kissing his forehead.
“Hey…I love you, Bucky. Nobody else, just you.” She insists, cupping his cheek in her palm and using her thumb to wipe away his tears. “And I love you just the way you are. To me, you’re the best person in the world. Don’t listen to John Walker. He’s not even half of the man you are. I know I can’t possibly take away all your pain and trauma, but I’ll be here to tell you just how good you are and how much I love you every day.”
“You’re such a good person, Y/N.” Bucky mumbles. “So kind, and so loving.”
“So are you. And you show me that every day.” Bucky shuffles forward into her embrace, wrapping his metal arm around her tightly.
They sit together for a while, Y/N letting Bucky cry as she holds him protectively, and whispering reassurances in his ear. “I’m going to be here forever, Buck. You’re stuck with me, I’m afraid.” She tells him when they pull away. Bucky manages a chuckle at that, and it makes her heart flutter. He gazes at her, smiling like she hung the moon.
“I’m glad. I don’t think I could ever survive without you in my life.” Smiling, Y/N leans in close, gently kissing his lips.
“Me neither. Good thing that I’m not going anywhere.” Bucky takes her hand, pressing a kiss to it. Suddenly, he notices the bruise developing on her knuckles, and his eyes widen.
“What happened to you? Did he hurt you? He can say whatever he wants to me, but if he hurts you, then there’s going to be a problem.” Bucky insists. Just as he’s about to get up, Y/N stops him.
“Don’t worry. It wasn’t him that did it…sort of.” Bucky’s brow furrows, and Y/N chuckles. “I punched that smug fucker right in his face after what he said to you. I probably broke his nose, actually.” Bucky gasps.
“You did that for me?”
“Of course I did.” She shrugs. “He doesn’t get to mess with my boyfriend and make him feel like shit without facing the consequences.”
“Thank you.” Bucky smiles. “At least let me get you some ice, though.” He helps her up, gazing at her with a smile. Y/N’s stomach flutters once more. “I’m the luckiest guy in the world to have you protecting me, you know that?”
“Well, you protect me, so it’s only fair I return the favour.” He kisses her lips once more, and Y/N smiles. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”

A general problem the MCU has is that while they may be good at bringing up potentially interesting and complex takes on real-world issues or things that could shake up the status quo, they're not good at commitment, and usually have the issues get solved in anticlimactic fashion, whether that be by the end of the same project they were introduced in, or have them get solved offscreen.
Like, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, they raise a legitimate issue through bringing up the topic of how immigrants and refugees are treated. Setting aside Karli falling into the same trap as Killmonger of "villains who suddenly kill a bunch of innocent people at random because they were raising too many legitimate points, and we need the audience to not root for the", the issue is resolved through Sam effectively giving a "Do better" speech to the politicians while the deportation issue is solved offscreen.
Setting aside that they come off more like a HYDRA manifesto, the Sokovia Accords could've been the foundation for a discussion about acceptable forms of oversight for superheroes. But it really just amounted to a plot device to allow the airport battle to happen, they're pretty much forgotten once Zemo enters the picture, they're mentioned a few times in Ant-Man and the Wasp and WandaVision, and then Matt Murdock's scenes in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law reveal that the Accords were repealed offscreen.
Secret Invasion seemed to be on track to deconstruct Fury's habit of using superpowered people to help him, by having it reveal that he basically exploited alien refugees. But he doesn't actually solve that issue by the end (in fact, when it comes to defeating Gravik, he exploits G'iah having superpowers and wanting to avenge her parents to utilize her as an assassin).
I very much agree with you.
The MCU likes to bring up certain points of discussion but they seem to believe that either the audience is too stupid to understand complex storylines or they just want something easy to digest that won't upset anybody (mostly the execs).
It comes to show that while in the past the superhero movies were all about celebrating the heroes and their "otherness", nowadays we get organizations like the TVA justified by the narrative, the governments are protected and the blame is deflected towards the heroes like Bucky, or a series that could have made a fantastic story regarding Fury, Shield and their shady missions turns out to say... absolutely nothing at all.
What they did to the Flagsmashers and Karli was so utterly disgusting that I can't even begin to say how mad it made me. Hell, Secret Invasion was dealing with refugees as well (the alien-kind but, still). So why not try to connect the two somehow? We had Nick speak to Talos about racism, much in the way Sam gets to mention some of it especially when he's with Isaiah, but nothing ever comes out of it. They're short lines that can be quoted in tweets and memes but they're pointless when it comes to the story being told in the series.
And maybe that's the problem, it would seem that's all Marvel wants. It's like their "queer rep". They want something quick, short, and ambiguous that won't bother anyone too much. Probably because they're one of those who think "both sides" are equally right and wrong and so they don't want to alienate anybody.
And one of the reasons I hate this is that when it really comes to it... does the existence of heroes really change anything in the MCU universe? When it comes to external threats they're essential, but with internal affairs? They always stop the immediate threat but everything else that made it happen is left as it is (the worst offender is CW, the Accords and that damn Raft. "Oh let me break my teammates out of here but watch as I do nothing to help the other inmates or anybody else that will be sent here in the future". WTF is that?!!).

The Twin Flame - Chapter 18: "The Story of Us"
"I'm dying to know, is it killing you like it's killing me? I don't know what to say since the twist of fate when it all broke down and the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now..."
Tumblr media
John looks up from the screen, facing the security guard, "You said that Sam and Bucky were here on the day this happened?"
The guard quickly nods. "Yes. Along with a woman."
"Do you have the woman's name?"
The guard frantically nods again, looking back at his screen to the visitor's log. "Regina Phalange."
Lemar covers his mouth, attempting to stifle the chuckle that leaves his mouth. John grimaces, his gaze hardening at the guard. "Regina Phalange? Like from Friends?"
The guard winces, stammering, "She said it was french. You don't think they had anything to do with this, do you?"
"Let's go," John mutters, tapping the counter as he pushes his weight off the desk. John turns back offering a halfhearted smile, "Thank you, sir."
John and Lemar walk down the prison hall, away from the guard's station in search of anything else they could find about Zemo's escape from prison.
And the mysterious woman that they couldn't stop hearing about.
"What?" Lemar questions, trying to break the pensive expression on John's face. "Come on, John. You don't seriously think that Sam and Bucky would've broken a guy like Zemo out of prison. Last we checked, they hated the guy as much as the next person."
"And an unknown female," John hisses. "It's not like they aren't hiding things from us already."
"Not wanting to work with us is not the same as hiding things, John. You can't let that get to you."
"Lemar," John imploringly states. "I think that's exactly what they did. They were as desperate for leads as we were. It makes perfect sense."
"You know as well as I do that you can't accuse them of something like that with out a hell of a lot of evidence to back it up."
"And what about the woman? That just happened to be here too? There's a reason we've never met this lady, Lemar," John doubles down. "They're hiding something. They're hiding her."
"Maybe she's shy," Lemar offers, desperate to talk John off of the ledge he just kept wanting to leap off of.
"Or maybe she's exactly the person we've been looking for. Think about it, there's a reason they used an alias."
"Regina Phalange is hardly an alias, John. Anyone with access to Google could figure that one out. And if they were really trying to hide her, why would they bring her here?"
"I don't know," John admits, his voice pensive and detached as he mulls over their next move. "Which is why you and I are just gonna run with this for a minute."
"John," Lemar implores. "Think about this. Really think about this."
"Do you trust me?"
Lemar sighs, his shoulders reluctantly slumping in defeat. "You know I do."
"She's dangerous, Lemar," John states. "And look at what happened here, it's already chaos."
"You're right," Lemar agrees. "So I guess what happens next isn't a strictly on the books type thing, is it?"
John rests a comforting hand on Lemar's shoulder. "If we get this done, you really think they're going to sweat us on the how?"
"Guess not."
John smirks, a calculating glint in his eye. "Then, I think we've got some digging to do."
-
"Donya Madani," Sam enunciates into the phone. "She's a refugee, yeah."
"Okay, I'm on it," you hear on the other end of the line.
"Okay. Call me if you get a hit."
"Hey, Sam?" you hear Joaquin interrupt before Sam hangs up. "Does this mean I'm not Reckless Idiot Number 2 anymore?"
"Let me know what you find and I'll let you know."
"You okay?" Bucky asks Sam, though Bucky keeps one eye on your pensive expression.
"Yeah. Just thinking about all the shit Sharon had to go through. And Nagel referring to her as 'the SHIELD asset'," Sam replies, nudging his head towards you. You barely hear their conversation, too lost in your own thoughts about what Dr. Nagel said about them still keeping you in the dark. About Karli Morgenthau and a million other questions that no one seems to want to answer. Questions you're not even sure if you can gather the strength to even ask, much less the strength to hear the devastating answers. "Like she's not even a real person. Just makes me wonder how many people have to get steamrolled to make way for The Avengers, for SHIELD, for that hunk of metal."
"Well, depending on who you ask, all those things saved a lot of lives."
"Yeah, I get that, all right. But maybe I made a mistake."
"You did," Bucky easily replies.
"Maybe I shouldn't have put the shield in a museum," Sam continues. "Maybe I should've had her destroy it."
"Look, that shield represents a lot of things to a lot of people, including me. The world is upside down, and we need a new Cap and it ain't gonna be Walker, so before anyone destroys it I'll take it from him myself."
Just as you're about to say your first words of the entire flight, Sam's phone starts vibrating. He picks it up instantly, "Hey. Yeah, okay. Got it."
When Sam hangs up the phone, a solemn expression remains on his face. "They found Madani. Dead. She died near Riga, a city near the Baltic Sea."
"I have a place we can go," Zemo offers. "I, for one, am looking forward to coming face to face with Karli."
Your eyes shut for a moment of the name again. You'd never heard it until today, and now you couldn't stop hearing it.
Bucky eyes you for another moment as Zemo calls to the front of the plane, "Oeznik, we're changing the course."
"Who's Karli Morgenthau?" you whisper, forcing yourself to swallow the knot in your throat.
Bucky's blood runs cold, hearing the whisper of a question before Sam can make out your words.
"What?" Sam questions.
"Who's Karli Morgenthau?" you repeat, your tone uncharacteristically quiet and cold.
"She's-"
"And I suggest you tell me the truth this time," you interject before Sam can finish his response.
Sam deeply sighs, dread pooling in the pit of his stomach because he knows you're not going to let this go. "Karli Morgenthau is the leader of a rebel organization in Central and Eastern Europe."
"And what did Dr. Nagel mean when he said that you were still keeping me in the dark?" you finally ask, voicing the question that had plagued you since you first heard Karli's name. Your eyes flicker back and forth between Sam and Bucky, neither of whom seem all that keen on answering your question. Their silence is your answer. "What did Karli Morgenthau do with the vials?"
Sam takes a deep breath, his eyes shutting because just from your cold, detached tone, he knows you know.
Once again, you take his silence as your answer. You clench the armrest beside you as indignant anger courses through you. Maybe it was hypocritical, but it hurts that they both kept something of this magnitude from you. "How many of them are there?"
"Seven," Bucky finally responds. "There's seven of them."
"There are seven of them," you slowly repeat, enunciating each syllable because it doesn't sound real.
None of it feels real. It doesn't feel real that there are people just like you running around without you even knowing about it. It doesn't feel real that the person your trusted most in this world kept that from you.
It just...doesn't feel real.
It feels like a convoluted dream based on one of your greatest fears. Like some great illusion of smoke and mirrors designed to flood your entire being with a paralyzing mix of adrenaline and fear.
At this point, your voice is barely above a whisper, your throat closing with so many overwhelming emotions that you're not even sure how you're still upright. "How long have you both known?"
“It’s comp-” Sam starts.
The lights flicker above you as you desperately try to maintain control over yourself. But even now, it's clear that you're fighting a hopeless battle. “How long have you both known?”
“Since John Walker was made the new Captain America,” Sam reluctantly replies.
"That was weeks ago, Sam," you seethe through gritted teeth, holding onto the armrest like it's your life preserver in this blindsiding storm.
Strangely enough, grasping the armrest does bring you back, if only a little, if only because it reminds you of the searing pain traveling up and down your arm.
Sam nods, trying to remain calm as the plane starts to sway a bit too much in the night time sky, "We- I didn't want to drag you into this unless we had to."
"Whose idea was it?"
“What?” Bucky responds, carefully watching your reaction.
It's impossible to miss this time, the way your chest heaves as you try to regulate your breathing. The way you grip the chair like if you let go, you'll fall apart. And he certainly doesn't miss the hurt and angry expressions that keep alternating across on your face.
You sharply inhale, only to jaggedly exhale, “Whose idea was it to lie to me?”
“The both-” Bucky starts.
Sam cuts him off before Bucky can finish a new lie, “It was mine. I told Bucky and Torres not to say anything.”
You wince, even more hurt flashing across your face. In this moment, you feel so incredibly stupid. It was gut-wrenching that everyone around you already knew, you were just the last to know. Again. Like always. The last to know. The one no one ever truly trusted, always on the outside looking in. “Joaquin knew too?”
“Yes.”
You lick your lips, your face furrowing as you settle on anger. It's a common theme these days, settling on anger because it's so much easier to dissect and process than the feelings of hurt and betrayal.  "So let me get this straight, you've been on my back about lying to you the entire time I've been here, when you've been doing the exact same thing the whole time?"
“It’s not the same thing!" Sam vehemently defends.
"You're such a hypocrite, Sam," you snap, the plane violently rattling as you stand up out of your seat.
"You ran away - I was trying to protect you!" Sam frustratedly exclaims, rising out of his seat to maintain eye level with you. "That is not the same thing!"
You shake your head, and though Bucky can tell your royally pissed off, your words are contained yet laced with so much hurt-filled anger. Once again, your words are quiet, but he knows they cut Sam deep, “You’re such a bad friend.”
"I-" Sam starts again.
"Okay, maybe we stop airing our dirty laundry while we're flying thousands of feet in a giant metal tube," Bucky interrupts, stepping in between the two of you.
"Good idea," you scoff, eyes narrowed at the two of them. "And I would storm out, but we're in an enclosed space so I'm going to sit next to Zemo!"
Sam throws his hands up as you walk away from your seat in front of him to the seat in front of Zemo, "That's great. Really great."
"Please," Zemo offers, as you sink down in the seat in front of him. "I happen to enjoy your company."
"Thanks," you half-heartedly reply, staring out the window at the cloudy night sky.
Sam's mouth opens again, closing it when he realizes that there's nothing he's going to say that's going to change the sight before him. He's in complete and utter disbelief.
When did this become the story of the two of you? When did it become a dramatic tragedy plagued by unending plot twists and more trials and tribulations than any person could possibly know what to do with?
That story had always been complicated. It had always been a difficult road. He just couldn't tell when you both decided you were better off facing that road alone.
He had regrets, plenty of them. He knew you had your own too.
And it didn't matter what anyone else might've thought, even what you thought, he never regretted the moment you'd burst into his life. He never regretted involving himself with Nick Fury, with SHIELD, none of it. He couldn't deny that it made his life a hell of a lot more complicated, he still wouldn't have changed how any of it went down.
There'd been an instant friendship when he met you, like fate had brought him to a missing piece of his family. He never had that sense that he needed to worry about you taking too much for him or him taking too much from you. You both gave and seldom took.
He'd crossed the line for you so many times. You'd crossed just as many for him. But time marched on, lines turned into trenches. Crossing wasn't just crossing a line anymore, wars were waged, lives lost, backs stabbed.
And there was nothing either one of you could've done to change that:
"How's Rhodes?" Sam asks, feeling Tony's gaze on the back of his head from across the glass barrier.
"Flying him to Columbia Medical tomorrow so... Fingers crossed." Tony stops speaking, taking a moment to choose his next words very carefully, "What do you need? They feed you yet?"
Donning a full prisoner's uniform, Sam turns around with an incredulous chuckle,"You're the good cop now?"
"I'm just the guy who needs to know where Steve went."
Sam angrily crosses his arms. "Well, you're gonna have to go get a bad cop because you're gonna have to go Mark Fuhrman on my ass to get anything out of me. Or, you know, just shoot me down, you're good at that."
“I knew it wouldn’t,” Tony stops, even as the words leave his mouth he hears how vile they sound. He still says them anyway, “I knew it wouldn’t actually kill her.”
Clint loudly guffaws from across the room, "You hear that? He didn't think it would kill her when he shot her point blank. Stark friendship at its kindest!"
Sam bitterly snorts, shaking his head at Tony, “Do you hear yourself? You shot a supposed friend down. You shot her. And now she’s somewhere in this God forsaken prison.”
“Maybe you should’ve thought about that before you kept dragging her into your fights!" Tony seethes. "Can't fight your own battles so she’ll do it for you, right, Sam? You talk about SHIELD, about Ross when you’re no better, you’ll exploit her without a second thought. She trusts you without a second thought and you take advantage at every turn. Don’t blame me. Blame yourselves.”
"Anything to not blame yourself, right?" Sam counters, schooling his expression to hide the sting of Tony's words.
Tony's words hit him in his most vulnerable spot, so hard that it feels like he can't breathe. Because no matter how much Sam doesn't want the words to ring true, he can't shake off the sense that Tony is right, that you're only on the Raft, chained up and alone, because of him.
"I just knocked the A out of AV. We got about 30 seconds before they realize it's not their equipment. I was wrong, Sam. That's clear to me." Tony flashes him a small holographic screen, an image of an unconscious man in a suit strewn on the ground, "Just look, because that is the guy that was supposed to interrogate Barnes. Clearly I made a mistake, Sam. I was wrong. Now tell me where Steve is."
Sam scoffs, shaking his head. "No."
"She's all alone right now, if you didn't already know that. Might do some good to have a visitor, can't be that hard to convince Ross to let me see her."
The thing was Sam already knew you were somewhere in this prison. All alone. He could still see the panic in your eyes when they separated you and Wanda from the rest of them. He tried to hold onto the foolish hope that maybe they decided to have an iota of humanity and not separate the two of you.
He also knew that it wouldn't really matter. They could've thrown you in the cell right beside him, but still there was nothing anyone could have said, could have done to prepare you for the feeling of being locked up all over again.
Even worse, because the guards paid them no mind, he had no way to find out anything about your whereabouts, if you were okay or not, he knew nothing.
Sam tried a diplomatic approach at first, simply asking the guard if you were alright, how you were holding up.
Then, Clint tried demands. Threatening to kill the guards the second they got out of here unless they told them how you and Wanda were doing.
Scott tried to appease, to joke and appeal to their sense of humanity.
None of it worked.
A snort of disbelief leaves Sam's mouth. "You're gonna bargain with my friend's life? That's a new low for you, Tony."
Tony grits his teeth, sneering, "She was my friend too."
"Was, operative word."
"Did she say that or do you speak for her now, Sam?"
"No, you do a good enough job of that on your own," Sam counters, though he has more than half a mind to tell Tony where Steve is just to find out if you were okay.
"15 seconds, Sam. Choose."
Sam just can't stop picturing it. You in a cell, all alone. God knows they weren't kind to you before, now there was nothing stopping General Ross from laying all the pressure he possibly could to force you back into line. He almost can't believe the words as they leave his mouth, "You go, you go alone and as a friend."
"Done," Tony agrees.
-
And this was what was going to tear the two of you apart, a futile war of pride after endless amounts of miscommunication, mistakes, and missteps.
Was it killing you like it was killing him?
Right now, you were both faced with the reason that honesty had always been your rule number one, why trust had always been so cherished in your friendship. And you were both learning that lesson in the harshest, most cruel of ways. Watching as everything you'd built crumbled to nothing, while you were both pretending it meant nothing.
Sitting in the deafening silence, all alone, watching as you sat only a few feet away from him and still so far out of reach, all he knew was that he liked it a whole lot better when you were on his side.

6 Months Later…
The locked case hidden in the basement wall taunted (y/n). She knew what she was hiding, but couldn’t bring herself to ever talk about it. There was too much history and (y/n) couldn’t bear to hurt Scott again.
She’d been out with Bucky helping him buy some furniture when it happened. Her phone rang, Unknown being the caller ID. She was glad for the timing since Bucky was caught up in talking to the salesperson.
“Hello?”
“Thank you for completing my mission, (y/n).”
That voice.
“Zemo?” she questioned, causing Bucky to spin around. His eyes went wide, fear crossing his features. He hadn’t heard that name in six months. He quickly apologized to the salesperson and led (y/n) outside. He took her phone and put it to his ear.
“What do you want, Zemo?”
“Hello, James. I was just thanking (y/n) for her services.”
“Why now?”
“The Power Broker was closer than we thought.”
“Who was it?”
“I believe you know her: Sharon Carter.”
“Dammit. Where are you?” Bucky asked, looking around as if Zemo was going to pop out of nowhere.
“Riga. See you soon, James.”
Zemo hung up and Bucky gave the phone back to (y/n).
“We gotta go to Riga. Zemo gave me information that’s gonna help us out a lot. As soon as we get in the car, call Sam and Scott,” Bucky explained as he grabbed her hand and led her back to the car.
While Bucky drove, (y/n) did as he said. She called Sam first, who agreed to join but didn’t want to talk to Zemo. However, when she called Scott, he outright refused.
“No. I’m not doing this.”
“Scott, we need you.”
“I thought all this was over.”
“Scott,” she began, trying to hold back tears, “I wanted it all to be over, too. But when trouble calls, we’ve gotta answer. It’s just how we are.”
“I don’t want to lose this happiness we just found.”
Bucky took her phone again, realizing (y/n) was getting nowhere with him. Now wasn’t the time for a couple’s fight.
“Scott, we need to go. Zemo gave me the name of the Power Broker and we need to meet him to discuss it. There’s no other option.”
“Shit. Okay. Who’s going?”
“(y/n) and I will meet with Zemo. Sam’s staying in the States and he’ll be up to the house in about two hours.”
“Where are you guys?”
“Coming down the street. We’re each gonna pack a bag and leave.”
Everything played out surprisingly well. While Scott talked with Bucky about the mission, (y/n) managed to sneak her case into the car. She wanted to leave it behind but didn’t want Scott to find it.
Bucky and (y/n) made it to Riga in hours. They’d taken a quinjet from the Avengers Compound’s arsenal. Bucky didn’t want to waste any time. He landed in an inconspicuous area that hid the jet well.
They made their way to the safe house where Zemo said he’d be. Bucky knocked and entered, (y/n) following. Zemo was waiting on the couch, a glass of whiskey beside him.
“Hello, James and (y/n). Sorry to do this under rushed circumstances, but we need to move fast.”
“Wait, what exactly is going on?” (y/n) asked, wanting some clarity on the situation.
“I have found out who the Power Broker really is,” Zemo briefed.
“Well, who is it?”
Zemo glanced at Bucky before answering, “Sharon Carter.”
In a quick moment of realization, (y/n) replied, “That’s why she shot Karli.”
“What?”
Remembering the situation from over six months ago the best she could, (y/n) described, “Bucky and John were off intercepting the rest of the Flag Smashers. When Sam, Scott, and I were inside, Sharon shot Karli. There was a disagreement beforehand about working with Batroc. Sharon wanted Karli to work for her again, but Karli pointed out that they wanted different things.”
“Like a bad breakup,” Bucky commented.
Bucky and (y/n) piloted the jet back to New York. Zemo sat in the back, eyes wandering to the case strapped to the wall. He knew what was in it, but he couldn’t bring himself to take it. The items inside belonged to him, but he wasn’t so sure about that anymore.
The jet landed outside the compound. Sam and Scott were already there, waiting outside. Bucky exited the jet first, telling Sam and Scott everything Zemo had said in Riga. Meanwhile, (y/n) and Zemo stayed back for a minute.
(y/n) unstrapped the case from the wall, handing it to Zemo. “You’re gonna need this,” she said before stepping off the jet.
Zemo opened the case, revealing his coat, mask, and loaded gun. The pen he’d given her was in there as well. He put on the coat, adjusting it since it had clearly been folded a while. It felt right but it didn’t. A piece of her resided in the coat despite her wearing it for a short time.
Manhattan was buzzing. Sam was perched on a building while Bucky, Scott, (y/n), and Zemo were split up on the ground. Sharon and Batroc were due to be in the area any minute. The two made an appearance in the park. Sharon whistled, and a good number of people stood up and got closer to her.
There were more Flag Smashers.
Bucky and Scott moved closer. Zemo and (y/n) hid in plain sight. They were the only four in the park who hadn’t gotten closer to Sharon. Batroc said something in her ear, then she looked around. (y/n) checked her guns for the final time as Sam’s voice counted down over the comms.
“Five.”
“Four.”
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One.”
Sam swooped in, tossing the shield into a tree behind Sharon. She looked up, seeing Sam coming straight for her. She stepped out of the way, resulting in Sam knocking over Batroc. Sam grabbed his shield after he landed, strapping it to his arm.
“Didn’t expect that from you, Sam.”
“You betrayed us. All of us.”
Sharon threw the first punch. Scott, Zemo, and Bucky took on the Flag Smashers while (y/n) fought Batroc. She used all the moves the Red Room and Natasha had trained her to use. Batroc was strong, but he was cocky. When she finally knocked him down, she heard a gunshot.
Everything felt like it went in slow motion. The bullet traveled straight to an unsuspecting Scott.
“SCOTT!” (y/n) screamed as the bullet hit him. She ran to him, barely catching him as he landed on the ground. Sharon stood proud, gun still pointed. (y/n) looked down at Scott.
“(y/n), I’m no good at goodbyes.”
“Scott, don’t say that, it’s okay,” she tried to provide assurance as tears filled her eyes, “We’ll get you out of here, you’ll be alright.”
“I can’t feel anything.”
“It’s okay, Scott. Relax. Let your mind go.”
“I can’t, baby, I don’t wanna go yet.”
“It’s time, Scott,” (y/n) said, giving into the fact that Scott was dying in her arms.
“You were supposed to be,” he coughed, “(y/n) Lang.”
Scott’s last words rang in her head. He took one last look into her eyes before his body went limp. Her hand running through his hair was the last thing he felt.

river rambles about viktor (real) (not arcane)
viktor. viktor mazur. envy. feliks' really tall spider freak boyfriend. spider dude taylor exploded into a bazillion bajillion pieces. viktor has a lot of silly little things I could call him! he's a lad. a very big lad. a very big spider lad. i adore him. i really shouldn't, because he's one of my main villains for my first comic part, but wow, he's one of my favorites!
as you can tell from my penchant for drawing him, I have problems in my brain. one of them includes liking a polish guy who bisected himself and attached him to a giant spider. he's probably my favorite antithesis villain, because I think jesse takes the spot as my favorite villain overall. jesse is just TOO funny to kill off. they say "slayyyy" and then shoot someone. viktor on the other hand? he kind of just... sulks in his cave all day, sometimes eating people. such a lad. love them both.
perpetually 24, viktor mazur is a former polish prince who has been confined to a cave for 500 years. he used to be a man who prided himself on researching anatomy and the body, seeking ways to improve his and others' health, but ultimately 500 years of being trapped in a cave have worn him down to a pallid man starving for a meal. feed this lad. he is a very jealous person, stewing in rage at seeing friedrich's collection of notes he isn't allowed to touch despite being accomplished in the medical field, or watching karlis pull bitches he could never get. his jealousy often boils over to hate or at the very least violence (sorry, feliks). it didn't help that he spent a good chunk of his adult life hanging out with the worst people in Europe in the 1500s, the Sins. there are a lot of reasons why viktor took the moniker of Envy.
one of viktor's closest friends was a latvian man, andris. andris is karlis' brother, but so, so, *so* much more tolerable. i cannot tell you how much I hate karlis. andris and viktor were the... most normal. of the sins, I guess. i mean, they weren't karlis, who valued pleasures of the flesh more than people. andris and viktor often worked together, although andris more assisted viktor with his research of the body than andris coming up with his own discoveries (andris is not very scientifically inclined). outside of scientific settings, they did both value each other. i bet they went to festivals together.
don't ship them together, though, andris is heterosexual. plus viktor already is dating a man named feliks, although feliks comes around 500 years later and andris and viktor haven't seen each other in also 500 years.
honestly, in an alternate universe, viktor would have been completely against friedrich. friedrich hoards knowledge, seeing himself as the only person fit to distribute or consume it (which isn't something shared by his descendant jesse, but they go to pretty wide lengths to obtain arcane knowledge they seek). he would not have been against him for moral reasons ("killing gods to try and obtain godhood is not right!"), but more "you're a nasty bitch let me into your library". i mean, he already disliked Friedrich because of his habit of hoarding knowledge, but *he* chose to follow him. and viktor *did* want to do the whole godhood thing.
viktor laments his decision to edit his body with a giant spider, and try and ascend to godhood, but honestly... yeah, it was his fault. the sins weren't a cohesive group, but they wanted the same thing. the only one who could get 'justified' would be andris, with karlis goading him to join him in godhood. but really, yeah, the sins are to blame. i love viktor as a character, absolutely adore him, but you have to understand: viktor helped kill several gods, killed the magical beast he was bonded with, grafted it to his body, injected himself with ichor, and now waits in a cave sticking people with his webbing then eating them later. he's a great character, but don't go around calling him the scrunkly. rotate him in your brain while keeping in mind of his crimes.
he will not stop rotating in my brain. i can't stop it. i might as well become a viktor mazur blog he is stuck in there. like a spider in a web... omg spider reference.

This isn’t real. There’s no way that it could be. You’re just having a nightmare, Kris, a very livid nightmare. Colton would never do this.
“Kris, hey, it’s me,” Colton says, throwing that ugly mask to the side. His grip on you loosened slightly, bending down to make eye contact with you. “What are you doing here?”
That shook you out of your shock, anger suddenly flowing through you. “What am I doing here? What the hell are you doing here?!” You shout as you shoved him away from you. “I’ve been looking for you for months! Months, Colton! Only for you to be a part of a frickin’ terrorist group?!” Your voice grows louder as you continue to push him back.
Colton grabs your hands to keep you from shoving him again, his strength easily overpowering you again. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. I am not a terrorist. We’re just trying to keep the GRC from screwing people over because everyone came back from the Blip,” he tries to explain to you, but you wouldn’t hear it. You couldn’t hear your little brother saying that the Flag Smashers were a good thing, not when they’ve killed people to make a point.
You use your foot to kick him in the stomach, the movement making him let go of you as he falls backwards onto the ground. “Colt, they are killing people. I understand what Karli is trying to do, but she is going about it the wrong way. You do know that, right?” You inquire, looking down at him.
His eyes glare at you as he pushes himself off the ground. “You have no right to talk to me about that. I know what you and your team have done in the past, you’ve always done what was necessary,” he points out as he shoves his finger in your face.
Shaking your head, you swat his hand away from you. “We never intentionally hurt innocent people. I would never kill anyone just to prove a point, let alone someone that didn’t deserve it. Are you telling me you’re okay with the way Karli is handling this?” You question him, gesturing with your hands for emphasis.
Colt’s gaze looks away from you at that, swallowing hard. “I didn’t know it would go this far. I… I didn’t mean for it to,” he tells you, biting his lip.
Your face softens as you look over your little brother. “Then why didn’t you come back? Why didn’t you come back to me?”
With a now clenched jaw, Colton looks back at you. “You know why. It’s for the same reason it took you so long to even come and find me,” he spits out, making you close your eyes. He was right. You did know.
Before you could even say anything, Bucky busted into the room, stopping when he saw you and your brother, but he doesn’t know the latter. Colton shares a look with you before running off, Bucky starting to go after him. You’re quick to grab Bucky’s arm to prevent him from going any further. He shoots you a confused look, though you just shake your head before leaving the room in search of the others, Bucky watching you cautiously as he follows behind you.
Both you and Bucky find the others just in time for Bucky to catch a knife right before it hits your face. You don’t have enough time to thank him before you're both launched into combat with the other super soldiers. You’re careful to dodge each blow, trying to use their momentum and own strength against them.
Once Bucky knocks down his guy, he’s quick to come over and assist you, punching the guy across the room. “You’re welcome,” he grunts, causing you to roll your eyes at him.
You then see one of the other super soldiers wrap his arms around Walker to hold him down as Karli charges at him with a knife. Before any of you could move into action, Lemar pushes her out of the way. As he tries to stand back up to stop her, Karli lets out an angry yell as she punches Lemar’s stomach, which makes him fly across the room until his back crashes into a column. A gasp leaves your lips as you see Hoskins’ body continue to lay there, unmoving.
John yanks himself out of the super soldier’s grip, swiftly making his way towards his friend’s body. “Hey. Hey. Hey,” John starts chanting, patting Hoskins’ face. “Lemar. Lemar,” he continues desperately.
The super soldiers take that as their chance to get away, all of them running in separate directions. Sam and Bucky take off after them while you hesitate as you continue to look at John. John’s gaze looks over at you before he gets up and launches himself out the window using the shield. Your eyes widen when you come to the conclusion that the Flag Smashers and Bucky aren’t the only super soldiers here, which prompts you to run out after them.
By the time you finally make it to the street with Sam and Bucky, there’s a crowd of people gasping and holding their phones out. Your heart stops when you see what is causing all the attention.
One of the Flag Smashers’ bodies is lying on the ground, beaten to death. And above him, is John Walker holding a bloody shield.
Your hand flies up to your mouth as you continue to observe the scene before you. “Johnny… What did you do?” You say to yourself quietly, your eyes never leaving the man that you once considered your friend.
Suddenly, Walker takes off running, pushing past the people that all started to gather around. You all take off after him, following him all the way to a random warehouse. Slowly, you all start to approach him as he gets up from where he was sitting on the ground.
“You guys should see a medic, you don’t look so good,” John says as he starts to approach you as well before trying to leave the building. You warn him to stop, which makes him turn back to you. “What? You saw what happened. You know what I had to do. I killed him because I had to! He killed Lemar!” He shouts, whipping back towards you.
Bucky steps up, putting himself between you and Walker. “He didn’t kill Lemar, John. Don’t go down that road. Believe me, it doesn’t end well,” he tries, but judging by the way John looks at him, it’s to no avail.
“I’m not like you,” he spits out.
You step out from behind Bucky then, slowly taking a few steps towards Walker. “Listen, it was the heat of battle, okay? If you explain what happened, they may consider your record. We don’t want anyone else to get hurt, Johnny. And I know you don’t either,” you say to him softly, reaching your hand out towards him. John turns his head to look at you and you offer him a small smile, anything to get him to turn himself over.
“John… You gotta give me the shield, man.”
As the words leave Sam’s mouth, you shut your eyes. He shouldn’t have said that.
John’s eyes leave you as he looks over Sam and Bucky behind you, an expression you know all too well written over his face. “Oh, so that’s what this is,” a sickening chuckle leaves his lips, “you almost got me.” He looks back at you, shaking his head. “I should’ve known better, huh Krissy?”
Your eyes cast downwards as you step back between Sam and Bucky, John scoffing as you do so. “You don’t wanna do this,” he warns all of you.
“Yeah,” Bucky speaks up again, glancing over to you. “We do.”
All three of you charge at John then, you being quick to dodge John’s swing in your direction, only for Sam to get kicked away behind you. Bucky grabs the shield, trying to pull it from John’s grasp, but gets punched back when he tries for Walker’s gun. As he goes to bring the shield down on Bucky, you kick John in the side, causing him to stumble.
That gives Sam and Bucky time to get back up as you all take turns trying to hit John, him using the shield to block all of your tries. John gets low and swings his leg, tripping both you and Sam, leaving Bucky to fight him one on one. Bucky repeatedly punches the shield with his vibranium hand, pushing John against a pole. He goes to pull the shield away again, but John pushes him off and ducks, causing Bucky’s swing to hit the pole instead.
Sam tries to get back up but is once again kicked off to the side by Walker before he throws the shield at Bucky, sending him across the room. John charges at Bucky, trying to take the shield back from him. He then grabs the shield and yanks it from Bucky, causing Bucky to fly into a pole. As he hits the ground, electricity starts sparking around his left arm, making Bucky twitch as it does so.
You and Sam both start to advance on John then, Sam using his wings to aid you. You try to take the shield from John, but he just throws you back against a crate, which causes you to groan from pain. Before he can hit you, Sam uses his wings to push him back.
As you push yourself back up, Sam continues to fight John, using a wire to try to pull him up into the air with him. John uses the wire against Sam though, yanking him back to the ground, but in doing so, the shield flies from his grip.
Immediately, you make a break for the shield, grabbing it just before Walker can. John starts throwing punches towards you, but you dodge them, barely. A frustrated yell leaves his throat as he gives up and charges you, pushing you backwards until your back hits the wall. Still, you refuse to give up the shield.
“Let go of it, Kris!” John shouts angrily, grabbing both sides of the shield and tossing you to the side.
Your back hits the ground, but you still won’t let go of it, even as pain starts flowing through you. “No,” you hiss through gritted teeth.
John lets out another yell as he grabs the shield, throwing you and it over his head. However, he doesn’t let go of the shield, so your body gets flung over him as your arm stays with the shield. A disturbing sound is heard as your arm pops out of place with your shoulder.
Bucky is finally brought out of his daze when he hears your scream fill the air. As he pushes himself off the ground, he sees you on the ground holding your left arm close to your body and John standing over Sam, who is now wingless, with the shield, ready to strike down on him.
Quickly, Bucky rushes over and knocks John off Sam just before the shield can hit him. Both Bucky and John then start fighting one on one again, John getting the upper hand and hitting Bucky in the face with the shield and pinning him down on the ground. John tries to push the shield through Bucky’s chest, but Bucky just manages to keep him from doing so.
Sam runs to Bucky’s aid and punches John in the face and then grabs the shield, pulling it back with the help of his jetpack. Bucky sits up and pushes John backwards, gritting his teeth as he gets in Walker’s face.
There’s a loud snap followed by a scream from Walker as Sam finally pulls the shield from John’s arm. Bucky pushes himself off the ground just as Walker gets up as well. “It’s mine!” He yells as he charges Bucky again, but is met with Bucky’s fist as it connects with his face.
Bucky grabs John by his legs and swings him to meet Sam with the shield, the impact making them all hit the ground as the shield clatters in between them. Pushing himself to sit up once again, Bucky picks up the shield as he stands up. He walks over to stand above Sam and drops the shield beside him. The shield wasn’t his main concern anymore.
You’ve managed to make yourself sit up when Bucky drops to his knees beside you, blood trailing down his face. Neither of you say anything as he looks you over, his eyes lingering where you’re holding your left arm against your side. He looks back to your face, an apology written in his eyes and on the tip of his tongue. You slowly shake your head before you drop it to lay your forehead where Bucky’s neck meets his shoulder. A shaky sigh leaves Bucky’s lips as he tenses for a second before he slowly wraps his arms around you–minding your injured shoulder–and buries his face into your neck as he holds you close.
                                                ★
“How did you say you hurt yourself again, sweetie?”
You’re taken out of your zoned out state as you look up at Mrs. Joan from across the table at the veteran shelter in Brooklyn. You’ve only been back for a couple days, and after your restless night, you decided that you needed to get out of your apartment. So, you ended up eating breakfast with the veterans that you used to visit when you first moved.
You offered the elderly woman a smile. “I just tripped while going down the stairs at my apartment complex. I just wasn’t paying attention,” you tell her, gesturing to your arm that was currently in a sling.
The woman eyes you suspiciously as she hums, taking a sip from the coffee you had brought her. “Well, I suppose it’s a good thing it happened after you got back from your little vacation, huh? That certainly would have spoiled the fun,” she comments as she dabs her lips with a napkin.
A scoff is heard on the other end of the table. “Little vacation? I thought she finally got smart and got out of here after being gone so long,” the older man grumbles. “Could have at least brought a souvenir back with ya.”
Mrs. Joan swats her hand towards her husband. “Oh, Stan, stop it! She’s a young woman, she can go wherever she wants to,” she defends you, making you chuckle quietly.
“Besides, who said I didn’t bring you back anything?” You ask as you reach into your jacket pocket and drop some Turkish delights onto the table. Stan’s eyes light up as he sees the little treats, a laugh escaping your lips when he quickly grabs them off the table. His wife starts laughing along with you, shaking her head at him.
    “Did I miss something?”
You turn to look back in your seat, your eyes widening slightly when you see Bucky standing behind you. “Bucky? I didn’t know you were back,” you say, tilting your head.
“Yeah, but just for a couple hours. I was hoping I could steal you for a bit?” Bucky asks, gesturing back towards the shelter’s door.
Before you could answer, Mrs. Joan beat you to it. “Of course! You could steal her for as long as you like,” she tells him, sending a wink your way. Bucky chuckles, looking away somewhat shyly as you roll your eyes along with Mr. Stan.
You get up from your seat and say your goodbyes to the couple before following Bucky out of the shelter, him holding the door for you as you do so. “How did you know I’d be here?” You asked, turning your head to look at him as he began to walk beside you.
“I figured after everything that happened the last few days you’d want to go somewhere quiet,” he answered, licking his lips. “How’s, uh, how’s your shoulder?”
You shrug with your non injured shoulder. “I’ve had worse. Did you deal with Zemo?” You knew that was where Bucky was going when he had left Riga. You had wanted to accompany him, but it was him that suggested that you just go home for now.
He nodded, shoving his hands in his jacket. “The Wakandans took him to the Raft. I actually have a package from them that I need to give to Sam. I was wondering if you’d come with me?” He offers, looking at you expectantly.
Stopping just outside of your apartment building, you take a deep breath. “I… I think I should sit the rest of this out. You and Sam can handle it without me,” you inform him, refusing to meet his eyes.
Bucky’s eyebrows furrowed together as he gave you a questioning look. “If this is about your shoulder, you held your own pretty damn well against Walker considering what he’s juiced up on,” he reassures you.
You shake your head. “It’s not… Well, it is, but not just that. It’s about Walker. It’s about my shoulder. It’s about Colton. It’s about Karli. It’s about every damn little thing, and I just need a break, Buck. I just can’t seem to do anything right.” You lean back against the wall as you run your hand over your face. You didn’t mean to say any of that, why did you say anything?
Bucky’s face falls as he goes to stand in front of you. “You’re doing what you can, Kris. We both are,” he tries, but he’s not sure what he can say to make you feel better. He wasn’t exactly the best at this. “I told you I would help with finding Colton. We can–”
“I already found him,” you quickly cut him off. You finally meet his eyes then, seeing the confusion in them. “Back in Riga, before Hoskins…” You trail off, biting your lip.
Realization washes over Bucky as he puts the pieces together. “He was that kid you let go wasn’t he?” He inquires, resting his hands on his hips.
You slowly nod your head, turning to look away from him. “I don’t blame him, y’know? I probably would have done the same thing if I was him. I’d have nothing to do with me either,” you admit, rubbing your nose. Bucky doesn’t say anything as he watches you, his eyes showing his symphony. “I mean, I didn’t have anything to do with him either. I only started looking for him because I was tired of being alone. What kind of sister does that to her little brother?” You bite your knuckle as you fight back your tears. You were an awful person.
There’s a firm grip on your shoulder as Bucky turns you back towards him. “What Colton got mixed up in has nothing to do with you. He was the one to make that choice. Whatever happened between the two of you isn’t any of my business, but from my experience as a brother, nothing is ever easy when it comes to siblings. There’s always going to be fights, fights that make you hate each other, but in the end, you’ll always be there for each other no matter what.” Bucky remembered every fight he had with Rebecca and he would do anything to be able to have another meaningless fight with her again.
Tears start to escape your eyes as you shake your head. “When I came home after what happened to Calican… I said some awful things to him. Unforgivable things. I hadn’t seen him for nearly a year before the Blip even happened.” You used the back of your hand to try and wipe away your tears. “I can’t save anyone, Buck. I couldn’t save Calican, I couldn’t even save Walker from himself. How am I supposed to save Colton or anyone from the Flag Smashers when I can’t save myself?” You cried, your voice breaking at the end.
You deserved everything that was happening to you. You deserved to be alone.
Bucky watched as you started to shatter, the broken pieces finding their way into his heart. He knew that you were scared, just like how he had been, like how he still is. But somehow, your broken pieces seemed to fit perfectly within his.
With his metal hand, the hand that has killed so many, the hand that you always reached to hold, he cupped your cheek, his thumb gently stroking it. As he watched you close your eyes as you leaned into it, he nearly felt whole again. “You saved me.” Bucky tells you, because despite what you might think, you did.
Your eyes opened as the words left his lips, yours opening slightly in surprise. You almost wanted to tell him differently, but after seeing the adoration in his eyes, you couldn’t even mutter a single word.
A warm feeling started to swell inside you as you continued to stare into his eyes. How could you tell this man that was out of his own time that he also saved you? That he was the only one that could understand you even when you couldn’t understand yourself?
    You couldn’t tell him.
    But you could show him.
Your hand gently grabbed the back of Bucky’s neck, pulling him closer to you, so close that your lips were brushing against his. This time, Bucky didn’t hesitate as he finally allowed himself to give in to you. Your lips were granted the satisfaction of finally being able to taste him, his other hand falling down to your waste to pull you closer to him, still minding your injury.
The two of you could have stayed like that for eternity, basking in the blissfulness of each other. The only thing that could stop you was the need for air. Neither of you couldn’t help the smile on your faces as you laid your forehead against his.
Things may not be okay right now, but at least you had each other.

I don’t think a popstar needs to come out as a democrat and actively work on not letting trumps into office but a guy who’s brother is married to a trump definitely does need to do that so yea idk how Taylor and Josh are comparable at all. Auntie alison is shitty but she’s literally some lady we have no info about except that she’s a trumpie so idk why a lady who might be a trumpie and who Taylor might not even have good relations with = having ivanka trump as your sister in law (a choice). Karlie did choose to get married into it and personally for me it was for money, she loves josh definitely but waiting around and getting mad at him for not proposing but still yk waiting and getting proposed to defs was because of money not love sorry I just can’t believe she’s that pure lol. So Taylor doesn’t need to talk about politics she can stay silent Karlie on the other hand has to because she chose to get into a family directly associated with trumps. Taylor is legit some popstar with a racist relative karlie is idk an active gold digger who married into the kushners the least her and josh can do is do what they’re doing tbh and honestly good on them that trevor noah loves them and all lmfao.
Josh was Dem and doing talks with Bill Clinton for years before that and campaigning for Obamacare. Karlie has spoken on all these issues.
Josh came out as still Dem in 2017 and did a whole profile for Forbes.
They both gave money to Dem candidates in the midterms and the primaries and to Biden.
Idk dude like what the fuck else do you want Joshlie to do except die? How would that help?? Or should they go Kill Bill and kill his family?

Without much care for the expense, you dived upon Zemo’s couch, that was within his secret hideout, closing your eyes, and laying upon the comfortable furniture. The Baron simply scoffed at your behaviour, whereas, Bucky concealed his amusement, to Sam’s dismay.
Since the Falcon had called for your help, along with Bucky’s, the two of you had gotten close, always tailing each other on missions to ensure that the other did not get hurt, and there being no snide remarks emitting from the once winter soldier in your presence.
He was an utmost gentleman, and that was when Sam Wilson realised, the old man was trying to court you, as was done with more respect and less bluntness back in his war zone days. The man could see the adoration resonating in the eyes of the other, and he went to open his mouth, until Bucky turned abruptly towards the kitchen, Zemo trailing back over to Sam and you.
At his presence, you groaned, feeling his judgemental and high ranking eyes glaring predominantly at you, clearly wishing to sit on the space that you were occupying. Though, you made no movement to move, and instead, kicked your shoes off.
Sighing, Zemo rolled his irises around in the pools of his white, finally giving in to sharing thus another luxury with you and your darned companions. “There are bedrooms upstairs, you may take one y/n.”
At that, you smirked, moving upright to stand, making it clear that it had been your plan all along. “Thank you so much Helmet, is it to the left?” He nodded, wishing to get his hands rid of your presence, that was keen to trail away.
“She used to be a con artist before she joined the team, it’s clear she still carries some of the attributes.” Sam mumbled out into the air, watching as Zemo squinted honourably towards him.
“You tell me that as though I did not do my research before I became invested in stopping all superheroes, her included.” He simply sipped his tea, twiddling with the foil of a Turkish delight as he sat down, pleased that he now could.
“Was that an threat towards her to me?” It was no surprise, they all knew not to trust this man, he had done enough damage when he was free the last time, and now, it would be strange to suspect any different from him.
“No, simply a statement for now. I’d not have included her if your Labrador of a super soldier was in this room, but to my luck, James is not.” Another sip of his drink became audible in the air, as Sam turned around.
He was right, Bucky was no longer within the walls of the room, and his eyes began to flicker. They’d have seen him exit if he decided to leave, perhaps but he had been an assassins for a long time, so who knew, and there was no sign that the front door had been opened, no cold air was blowing inside.
But, he could have went upstairs, and gone to another bedroom. Who was he kidding, he’d be in the same room, it all made sense! And all along, he had been right, there had been something to suspect.
Though, the investigative part needed to know that he was right, and so, he, with the shadow of Zemo that he was defiant with not leaving behind, for he could run, the pair walked quietly up the steps.
Zemo pointed to the door whence they had reached the landing, and Sam, with a strained face, opened the door quickly, only for you and Bucky to jump away from each other.
Your hands fell reluctantly from Bucky’s shoulders, and he himself licked his lips, trying to rid the evidence of your lipstick from his mouth. But it was to no avail working, the pair of you had been caught out, and surely, the two of you would never hear the end of this.
“I knew it!” Sam bellowed, pleased that he had been right to have his suspicions all along. Bucky rolled his eyes at Sam, zipping up his fly that no one else but you, had realised had been undone. But the action drew attention to the feature, and it soon dawned on Sam that the pair of you must have just finished something before Sam had barged in. “Y’all are gross!”
“And you seem to be rather oblivious Samuel. It was clear that these two came up here to fuck, and I am surprised that you are only just discovering this now. Some would think you were asleep on jet, when the pair suddenly decided that they both needed to use the bathroom, or when I was beating up the dance floor in Madripoor, that you were incidentally left all by your lonesome as the two of them disappeared into the crowd.”
He took another sip of his tea that he had carried up here, and you crossed your arms, whilst Bucky scowled murderously towards the two men that had intervened where they shouldn’t have.
“The fact that you pay that close detail to us is weird.” You stated, your nostrils flaring as you stared at the Sokovian. “Do you not have anything better to do?” You retorted, causing Zemo to put his cup down on its adjoining plate that was held in his spare hand before he responded.
“Not really, no. Whilst you have taken me hostage, it is either watch the drama that is ongoing in your little group, or think about the mission ahead. And as much as I would like to kill Karli-“
“No.” Sam scolded him, frowning at the man, who only rolled his shoulders back before continuing, being strictly against taking a girls life, he allowed him to speak more, no matter how irritating the rest would be.”
“However, it has been clear to me from the very beginning what the two of you have been doing, and whilst this oaf has not accepted it, it was far too easy to put the pieces together. It’s like you never told him about that time that you used your con skills to make Sam get food whilst you were going against the accords, and Steve was occupied with bringing the team together, and you had some of your own fun in the front seat, where he had been sat.”
Sam’s eyes widened, and so did Bucky’s. “I’m going to kill you!” They both said simultaneously, Sam’s aimed at Bucky whilst Bucky’s words were prompted towards zemo.
“Seriously, you’re creepy dude!” You whisper shouted as you held Bucky back, Zemo smirking in reply.
“I hear things, and I’d say for a con woman, you speak far too much to your lover, and the walls here are only thin.” And with that, he picked his mug up once more, after having already spilt the tea.

“Would you care for a Turkish delight?”
You bite the inside of your mouth in annoyance, refusing to even look at him. Instead of forcing your eyes to focus on a spot in front of you, not moving them in the slightest. Zemo waited for a few moments before sighing and turning away from you.
“You’ll eventually have to talk to me, y/n” he exclaims as he walks over to the kitchen side of the room. You were sitting in the safe house Zemo had provided. There wasn’t much to do, just sit and wait till the funeral started. Zemo sought to communicate to you to keep you two occupied, but you didn’t want to talk with him, so you didn’t. You just sat on the settee, staring at the sofa opposite you while Zemo walked around looking through the cupboards for food.
You were pissed when Bucky revealed he broke Zemo out of prison.
The avengers had been your family. Whenever you needed them Steve would be there to offer you advice, Tony there to make you laugh. Nat there to beat up whoever required it. Everything was wonderful in your life. For once. And he had ruined it.
He caused the family you loved to split, hate each other, and that left you alone. So alone. Losing both Tony and Steve made you more mad at Zemo. He robbed the last years you could have spent with them, so yeah, no wonder you refused to talk to him.
He loved to annoy you, though. Any moment he got he was beside you, creating sarcastic remarks about what was happening, trying to joke around with you. Trying anything to communicate with you. The worst of it was when he insisted you had to be his date on the mission in Mandripoor. Feeling his arm wrap around you, a kiss to your temple, the smell of his cologne flooding you, drawing you in. It pissed you off knowing how easily you fit into the role of his date. Yet you knew deep down why. Every time he made a snide remark, you had to bite your tongue to stop making one back. Every time he tried to joke with you, it took all your effort not to snort. You hated him and everything he does, yet you could sense a fondness growing for him, just a slight one, in the deepest corner of your heart. Left there to be locked away. Never acknowledged.
“So, the new Captain America, huh? What’s he like?” you hear Zemo ask, leaning on the counter of the kitchen table, his eyes burning into the side of your head.
You feel bile rise to your mouth as he spoke.
John Walker.
John fucking Walker.
If you hated Zemo, you despised John Walker. Just thinking of him brought a scowl to your lips. Steve meant everything to you. He was a father figure to you. He stood for all you believed in. He was your hope, your light in the darkness. And John Walker seemed to tarnish it. You wouldn’t have minded him if he was a different mascot for America. If he became America’s new hope. It was the fact that they called him Captain America. That he had the shield. The title belonged only to Steve. He claimed he wasn’t trying to replace Steve, but that is what he was doing. Him being called Captain America felt like a spit on Steve’s memory. People would forget him, everything he did for the country he loved. They would only focus on John Walker, and you detested that.
You didn’t blame Sam for giving away the shield, unlike Bucky. You could understand why he did it. That shield held such a responsibility, such a legacy it seemed impossible to ever live up to. No, you blamed the people who took the shield away from the museum. Without Sam’s permission. They should have asked Sam. But of course they didn’t care. They didn’t care at all.
“I see by your reaction that your impression of him isn’t a pleasant one,” Zemo says, bringing you out of your thoughts and back to reality.
“Have you met him?” he asks
You try to hold back your opinion, but John Walker made you so frustrated, you knew if you didn’t rant about him you would burst.
“Yes. He’s a dick,” you spit out
Zemo quickly straightens up, surprised you actually answered one of his questions.
“Oh? Are you finally speaking to me.” he inquires, walking around the kitchen counter towards you.
“Don’t push your luck” you mutter, side eyeing him as he sits down opposite you. Sam and Bucky were out leaving you alone with Zemo. At the moment you were all waiting till the funeral. Zemo claimed there were a few hours to kill before everyone had to gather. Sam and Bucky decided to check out the town, make sure they knew it well in case a situation occurred where we had to dash. They had forced you to babysit Zemo.
“No, no, I like to hear you talk. Please, if talking about how this new Captain America is a dick is how I get you to speak to me, then let’s continue.” Zemo says, pouring out a glass of whisky for you and him. He holds the glass out to you, an eyebrow raised. You sigh, grabbing the glass out of his hand and drank, feeling the warmth creep up your throat. Zemo chuckles as he watches you, leaning back on the sofa, his arms resting on top of it.
“My, my. The man must be terrible if just the thought of him is making you talk and accept drinks from me,”
“He’s so infuriating! He thinks because he is Captain America he can stick his nose in other people’s business!”
“Ah, so he is one of those people. Doesn’t understand boundaries. How rude,”
“And get this, he got annoyed at us! Telling us we should stay out of his way when he is the one getting in our bloody way!”
“No” Zemo fake gasps
“Yes!” you exclaim, going into a rant, “I can’t even bear to call him Captain America. He doesn’t deserve to be called that. His actual name is John Walker. He claimed he wasn’t trying to replace Steve, but that is exactly what he is doing! And how he talks to me as well. He’s so condescending, treating me as if I am a kid while trying to compliment me and act like he’s all that in front of me,”
Zemo’s eyes narrow and he places the glass down on the table between you two, “You mean he flirts with you?”
“If you could call that pathetic excuse flirting. I suppose. It pisses me off though,”
“I can imagine. He sounds nothing like what Steve was. Nothing like his legacy,”
It was your turn to narrow your eyes, watching Zemo curiously. “I assumed you hated Steve”
“I never hated him. No. I can admire what he stood for, I just find unrealistic. All superheroes are flawed. Innocents will consistently be collateral damage while superheroes are allowed to exist.”
You stare at Zemo, amazed. Not realising the silence you were making. You had always thought he hated Steve. It always seemed that way. Yet he didn’t? Knowing he didn’t hate the guy you always viewed as a father figure mattered to you. And you don’t know why.
Zemo stared back at you. He was studying your eyes, trying to figure out what you were thinking. He didn’t realise what he thought about Steve would have affected you, but it appears he was wrong.
“Don’t worry y/n we’re back and guess what! We found your fav-” Sam shouts, opening the doors of the room and strutting in but he pauses, noticing you and Zemo staring at each other from the sofa’s. “What’s going on here?”
Zemo is the one to pull out of the eye contact trance, smirking as he looks over at Sam, “We were just discussing John Walker.”
Bucky who had followed Sam in grounded at hearing Zemo utter that name. “Perhaps you two would like a drink and join us in considering how much of a dick he is?” Zemo asks, raising his glass to them.
A few hours later you walked down the street following Zemo to find his associate. You didn’t appreciate how secretive he was being, but you understood it. He had many people who wanted to get him, and the second he wasn’t useful to us. He would be doomed.
“It’s too dangerous for you guys to be pulling this shit” you hear a whiny voice shout. Peering up, you notice John Walker and his sidekick ‘Battlestar’ or whatever jogging down the steps towards you.
“Ah! How did you find us now” Bucky shouts with his arms raised, striding towards them.
“Come on. You really think three Avengers can walk around Latvia without drawing attention,” his friend responds.
“No more keeping us in the dark,” John mutters angrily
Zemo, who you were walking besides, turns his head to you, “I understand what you mean by infuriating”
You chuckle as John looks angrily between you two, “You can start by telling us why you broke him out of prison,”
“He did that himself technically” Bucky replies, and Zemo grins at you, as if bragging about it.
“Aw, this better be an unbelievable explanation-” John Walker exclaims, reaching up to you.
“Hey take it easy before it gets weird,” Sam suggests, interrupting John.
“I know where Karli is,” Zemo reveals to John Walker, his seductive accent sticking out from the rest of them. He tries to walk past John. You, Bucky and Sam follow, but John stops him, placing a hand on his chest.
Zemo glares ahead, disgusted at John for even daring to touch him.
“Well, where” he says, getting into Zemo’s face
“All we know is, it’s a memorial so we are going to intercept her there,” Sam adds, trying to defuse the tension.
Zemo grabs John Walker’s hand and pushes it off him, striding forward again, and you jog to catch up with him.
“See why I call him a dick now,” you whisper
Zemo smirks, looking back at you, “Yes. He’s perfectly exasperating”
“What? No. Wait. No! No! Stop. Hold on. Stop. Okay?” John exclaims running forward and stopping you all in your tracks again after something Sam had said. “I think we are way past reasoning with her”
Zemo just stares ahead, fed up with John while you groan in annoyance. Not being able to even bring yourself to look at the man in front of you.
They argue for a few moments while you and Zemo stand idly to the side, Zemo glances at you rolling his eyes making you giggle. You smack his arm slightly trying to get him to stop making you laugh, but that only makes Zemo chuckle along with you. Eventually they calm John down but he glares over at Zemo, “We will deal with you later.”
“I’m sure it will all come to an agreeable conclusion” Zemo says, gesturing with his hands. He walks ahead, searching for his associate while John Walker moves beside you. You try to pick up your pace, but he keeps up.
“So working with a criminal now. Not very avengery like. I thought Zemo hated Steve. I wonder what Steve would think of you working with him,” he mutters peering at you.
“Need I remind you-you are also working with him now,”
“Come on, darling, don’t be like that,” John responds grinning, placing his palm on your back.
“Get your hand off me” you growl scowling at him
“Most women would fawn over me” John cockily resorts, still not removing his hand
“She asked you to remove your hand” you hear Zemo state, glancing over you see he had stopped walking forward, turned around and was now glaring at John. “Do I need to remove it for you?” he says angrily.
John frowns at Zemo. Finally, taking his hand off you and striding up to Zemo. Zemo tilts his head, his jaw clenching in fury as he stares at John.
“You are nothing but a dirty criminal. Don’t think for a second you can talk to me like that,”
“I will when you are being rude and disrespectful towards a lady,”
John scoffs, peeking over to you, then back to Zemo. Everyone else was standing to the side, not sure if they should intervene or not.
“What did she suck you off or something?”
Chaos ensured.
Bucky and Sam had to leap forward to stop Zemo from launching onto John while Battlestar had to hold John back. “Too far man, too far” he muttered to John
Zemo was snarling at John, his teeth bared in rage. His hair had fallen loose from their usual position and was hanging down over his forehead, giving him a more wild look. The vein in his neck stood out, twitching. His eyes were raging with fire as he looked at John. He kept trying to push past Bucky and Sam to get to John, but eventually gave up knowing it was futile.
You were standing at the side, shocked that John would have the ego to say something like that and at Zemo’s rage towards John for saying it. John adjusts his head. Not looking you in the eyes, but looking in your direction. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t of said that”
Pulling your senses together, you walk up to John, glaring at him. “Yeah, you damn well shouldn’t have. You’re a dick. Nothing like Steve. You never will be,”
John wrinkles his nose in anger, frowning at your remark. You walk over to Zemo now that Bucky and Sam had let go of him. You give him a nod, showing your appreciation, and he nods back, though still glaring at John.
“Who I choose to associate myself with is none of your business. Who I choose to suck off is none of your business. Perhaps you can go fuck yourself and learn a bit of decency,” you spit at him.
A brilliant thought crosses your brain for another way to twist the dagger of your dislike into John. You reach out and grab onto Zemo’s hand, clasping it.
The action causes everyone to turn wide eyed to you. Including Zemo. He glances down at your hand in his then back to yours, surprise in his gaze but he immediately covers it up turning back to John smirking. He turns to behind himself, then back to the group.
“My associate is up ahead,”
You all turn to look forwards and see a little girl staring at you. Walking forward again, gripping his hand, Zemo nods to the girl as you all approach.
“Hello my friend,”
He holds out some money, a lot by the looking of it, and says to her, “This is for your family”
The girl hastily snatches it, obviously in need of it, and you can’t help but feel your heart warm a bit, seeing how kind Zemo was being to her.
“Can you show us the way?”
She beckons with her hands and walks forward. Zemo looks back at you, nodding to make sure you were okay, then follows her.
“What the hell” John murmurs from behind.
Following the girl, she leads you to a building. She turns, pointing inside a doorway, and runs inside not to be seen again.
“Karli’s in there,” Zemo tells the rest of the group. Sam replies and heads inside to talk to her while John suddenly grabs Zemo’s arm and yanks him against the machine on the wall.
Zemo moans as he is shoved into it, the hard outer piece hitting into his chest roughly.
“Hey. You’ve got ten minutes” John shouts to Sam as he takes out a pair of handcuffs and attaches them to Zemo.
“Really” Zemo mutters as John cuffs him to the machine.
“Then we are doing things my way,” John declares ignoring him
“Aggressive” Zemo jokes, though from his eyes you could still see the anger he harbors towards John.
He twists his head to watch John stride forward, staring at Sam, then back to him. “But I get it”
You wander over to stand by Zemo as you wait for Sam to talk to Karli.
“This day has brought a lot of changes. This morning you refused to say a single thing to me and now just moments ago you were holding my hand,” Zemo speaks quietly to you.
You shoot him a glare, “I did that to agitate John,”
“Sure, that was the only reason” but you knew from his eyes he didn’t believe you. They sparkled with amusement as he looked down at you.
“That cuff must bother you” you mention glancing over at them.
“I don’t mind. I quite enjoy cuffs, in the right setting of course,” he quips.
You turn on your side, looking at him, your lips curling into a smile. If we are going to play that game, you thought.
“Oh, what setting would that be?”
Zemo’s smile deepened, enjoying seeing you play along, “I’m sure you would like to know”
“Do you have to do this here!” John exclaims, glaring at the two of you. You quickly step back from Zemo, forgetting that you two had company. Your eyes snap to Bucky’s with worry, but he wasn’t looking at you. He glared at the ground, not seeming to care what was happening between you and Zemo.
After that Zemo tried to engage you in conversation again but you effectively ignored him, going back to how you were treating him earlier, which you knew was frustrating him.
John was looking down at the shield, then squeezed the bridge of his nose with his fingers, panting. Both you and Zemo glanced up, watching him cautiously. You glanced at Zemo and he stared back, confirming you were both thinking the same thing about Walker.
He got up and started shuffling towards the doorway. Both you and Bucky eyed at each other for the first time with the same recognition in your eyes. You leave Zemo’s side to walk over to where John was.
“No, no, no. This is a bad idea,” John mutters as he paces around. Zemo watches him like a hawk while you and Bucky stand side by side, arms crossed.
“It hasn’t been ten minutes, John. Sit tight,” Bucky replies.
“Don’t do that. Don’t patronize me,” he spits back, pacing around.
“He knows what he is doing,” you reply
There’s silence for just a moment. You watch as John turns towards you and walks fast, hitting his fist against the shield, “I’m going in”
Bucky walks forward and places his hand on John, stopping him from moving further.
He tries to antagonise Bucky, trying to make him guilty for what could happen to Sam. And you could tell his words were influencing him.
“You will not be going in till ten minutes are up,” you state sauntering over to them
“Oh, so the whore has something to say,” John spits out
In the back, Zemo growls, tugging on the cuffs that connected him to the wall. You feel the outrage prick up on you as John’s remark.
“Don’t call her that” Bucky says, glaring at John
“She’s been openly flirting with the terrorist over there, so yeah, I think it’s appropriate to call her that,” John bites back
You rush forward, attempting to punch John in rage, but he was able to sidestep you and brings the shield up, connecting it harshly to the side of your head. Pain soars across your face as you fall down onto the ground. You groan, your eyesight going dark around the sides and black patches covering parts of what you could see.
“BASTARD” you hear someone shout with a beautiful accent. From the floor, you can’t make out much of what is going on. Someone with a metal arm attacking another guy. A man with a shield being attacked by a man in a trench coat. It was all too confusing for you. You just wanted to sleep.
You could feel yourself fading in and out. Your eyes begging to close. You could hear shouting. Someone talking.
Your head was raised. Someone was holding it in their hands. Your vision is blurry but as they get nearer your eyes could focus on them. Beautiful brown eyes, messy brown hair, cute thin lips. It was him.
“Y/n!?” Zemo shouted at you, “Y/n stay with me”
“My head hurts” you mutter to Zemo as he lifts you up, placing you against the wall. Slowly your eyesight came back, and you could see your surroundings. Only you and Zemo were left.
“Zemo, where is everyone?” you ask turning your head, but in doing so it makes you feel incredibly dizzy. You groan as Zemo places a hand on the side of your face to stop you moving.
“They went after the Sam,”
“I need to help them!”
“No, you need to stay here and recover,”
You look over at the wall then back to Zemo, “How did you get out of the cuffs?” you ask
“Ah well…” Zemo says and glances down at his hand, your eyes follow and widen seeing his hand, bruising covering it, his thumb sticking out at an odd angle.
“You broke your hand to get out!?”
“Well, I couldn’t let him get away with saying those things and hurting you,” Zemo mutters, smiling slightly but you could see the pain flickering in his eyes, “I gave him a well-deserved punch in the face”
You chuckle at the thought. Leaning forward, you kiss him lightly on his forehead, a gesture of you wanting to ease his pain. You move back just in time to see him looking at you, surprised, before your vision faded.

TFatWS’ Missing Scene in Episode Four
One of the many reasons I'm certain that the production and edit of TFatWS was an epic cluster-fuck is that they thought Sam could ask 'what about Bucky?' in response to Zemo's unwavering declaration of 'supersoldiers must not exist' and the next moment we see Zemo and Bucky confront each other, Zemo has already backed off killing him and they never give any explanation as to why.
So. I’m usually not one to say things with absolute certainty, but: There was a missing scene in this episode. There has to be a missing scene somewhere in episode four that should be all about confronting Zemo's bias towards Bucky. Sam's 'what about Bucky?' line just doesn't make any sense without it.
From the beginning of Episode 3 we know that there's an ideological battle going on between who Zemo thinks Bucky is and who Bucky (is trying/to be/figure out/etc.) actually is. Zemo thinks that the Winter Soldier is still a part of him; Bucky is trying to prove (to himself, mostly) that it isn’t. Zemo is trying to prove that Bucky/Winter Soldier should not exist just like the other supersoldiers that he's killed before; but by the end of the show he’s amended that. And that’s kind of a big thing for a character that, up until now, has shown himself to be fairly committed and absolute. We know by everything we’ve been told about him that Zemo doesn’t just change his mind once it’s been made up,,, and yet,,,
Zemo starts off committed to the mission of killing all supersoldiers and moves to try to prove Bucky’s ‘faulty character’ to Sam in Madripoor (re: that ‘fall into form’ bit, trying to prove Bucky is eventually going to fall back into becoming the Winter Soldier and to show how dangerous he is), and later tries to prove it to Bucky himself in Sokovia as a last-ditch effort in what has basically been all cases of not-so-secret tests of character. In all of them Bucky wins. Zemo loses the ideological battle about and TO Bucky. And while we might be able to see the final blow made by Bucky at the memorial (re: not killing Zemo) and Sam's disarming blow in Riga ('What about Bucky?') we never actually get to see The Turn. The moment when the doubt comes in and Zemo's ideological fight starts to crumble.
And it's so easy to know what this is supposed to look like! In The Dark Knight it's the moment the passengers on the ferry boats don't blow each other up. In Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory it's when Charlie gives back the Everlasting Gobstopper. You’ve seen it before. It's the moment when the 'villain', who has a conviction of understanding towards the 'protagonist', is upended in their conviction by an act, usually of heroism or nobility, shattering the antagonist's preconceived notions about them.
So where the hell is That Moment where Bucky is proved to be noble in the test of character to Zemo??
May I present, exhibit A:
Tumblr media
Zemo is down, right next to Walker, and Hoskins has the exit behind them.
Tumblr media
Bucky and Sam are up and farther away and looking down on them.
Tumblr media
(Note: Sam and Bucky's eyeline is right where Zemo should be)
The scene cuts (jarringly) to Karli with her crew, planning to take out Walker before it cuts again to Sam and Zemo and the line of 'what about Bucky?' comes up.
Tumblr media
And speak of the devil, Bucky barges in and talks about how crazy Walker is.
Tumblr media
And let me just say, this is fucking weird.
I know the first thought is, ‘how did Zemo get to the Riga apartment and on the couch?’ but that's not (totally) what I'm thrown by.
Instead I’m wondering why the fuck is Bucky barging in talking about Walker? As in, not already with Sam and Zemo?
Last we've seen them, they were all together. Reasonably we are to assume at least Bucky, Sam, and Zemo should still be in the same place since they have been together for most of the episode. So, where has Bucky been? Why were they separated?
These are all questions your audience are going to have (at least subconsciously) when you cut from a scene where they were all together and then establish in the next one, that they’re not. This is screenplay/editing 101! The edit here is confusing as fuck and we're never given an answer for it. Since Bucky's first words are a roundabout, 'Walker is nuts bros' I don't think it's a stretch to assume Bucky was with Walker, right??? And then to add even more confusion:
Tumblr media
WALKER!??
Why? Why the fuck is Walker popping in this scene demanding Zemo??? WhY. When just five minutes prior he had him! There's so much basic logic missing here!!
Walker was literally standing over Zemo in the previous scene with all of them. There was Hoskins at his back and Sam and Bucky were far enough away that Walker obviously had the power over the situation. If he wanted Zemo why didn't he just take him then??
There isn't even an established reason as to why Bucky and Sam would defend him at that point since they had found Karli and lost her (on top of Zemo breaking free of his cuffs and shooting her, which is against Sam's mission to save Karli) so by now Zemo has outlived his usefulness in the mission. Or as Zemo would say, lost ‘his leverage’.
Tumblr media
It’s obvious that, even to Zemo, he had thought once Karli was found at the funeral that he was going to be turned over.
They really don't have a good reason why they'd stand in Walker's way in that moment either. Walker is a person that is technically meant to be their ally at this point and it makes sense for him to arrest Zemo and for Sam and Bucky to stand aside for him to do so.
(Later in the scene in the Riga apartment where they do stand in between Walker and Zemo, there's a little more power in Sam and Bucky's hands since Walker is barging in on their turf and it’s then established that Bucky and Sam aren’t feeling Walker’s vibe over Zemo’s.)
So.
The logic of the edit here is that:
Walker is in a prime position to take Zemo into custody but for some reason just doesn't.
Zemo and Sam end up back in the Riga apartment without Bucky.
Bucky comes in later complaining about Walker.
Walker and Hoskins follow, literally kicking down the down to now bring in Zemo.
Like
There’s a missing scene here bros. And dollars to donuts that it’s the same missing piece that explains why Zemo changed his mind about Bucky.
So Marvel,

Making Amends
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Words: 2900+
Author’s Note: The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (kinda) spoilers if you haven’t watched it. Uh, someone send help because I’m falling in love. I hope whoever reads this enjoys it as much as I did writing it. Much love to you all! xoxo
"Who's Y/N?" Dr. Raynor asks Bucky and his head snaps up, narrowing his eyes a bit. The therapist raises an eyebrow at his reaction to the question.
Bucky gets up from the couch before snatching the phone from her hands, not answering her question. He swallows thickly as he looks at the text you sent him, asking if the two of you could meet up.
He can feel his heartbeat quicken as Bucky hasn't seen you in almost eight years. The super-soldier licks his lips as he thinks about the last interaction he had with you, remembering his metal hand wrapped around your throat.
"She's someone I wronged years ago," he finally answers while continuing to stare at his phone.
"Well, you're working on making amends. Why don't you start with her," Dr. Raynor suggests and Bucky presses his lips together before slowly nodding his head.
The brunette sighs and texts you back, agreeing to meet up before showing his therapist the text. Bucky shoves his phone back into his pocket before standing up.
"I need to go. See you in a couple of weeks, Doc," he mumbles while walking out of the office.
Bucky runs his hands through his hair as he walks out of the building, thoughts of you filling his mind. He wonders why you want to meet now after eight years since the incident.
You happened to be strolling through the airport grounds when hell started to break loose. You were merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. Your eyes widened when you noticed a quinjet in one of the hangers, never seeing one of the Avengers vehicles up close.
Your eyes looked around everywhere as you tried to see if you could spot any of the mighty heroes. Two figures ran towards you and you jumped when one of the airport towers started to fall in front of the wide-open hanger.
"This isn't good," you mumbled to yourself and took a couple of steps back.
Everything started to happen so fast that you didn't see Captain America and The Winter Soldier run towards you. You went to move out of the way when the long-haired man wrapped his metal hand around your throat.
A gasp leaves your lips as you breathed in as much air as you could, your hand gripping his metal wrist. "Bucky, let her go," Steve told him and you could feel his grip on you tighten.
"I-I'm sorry," you squeaked out as tears filled your eyes, glancing towards Steve. "I-I just wanted to see the quinjet up close. I won't tell anyone I swear."
Your eyes met the Winter Soldier's cold blue ones before the super-soldier dropped you from his grasp. You gasped and started to breathe heavily while scrambling to get off of the floor.
Bucky's phone ringing snaps him from the memory he's having and he fishes the device out of his pocket. His breath hitches in his throat at your name flashing across his screen.
"Hello?" He hesitantly answers and your giggle comes through the speaker.
"Hi, Bucky," you greet him and Bucky swallows the lump in his throat as he sits down on the bench. "I'm sorry for calling all of a sudden, but I've been thinking about you."
He furrows his brows, not expecting such a warm welcome from you as Bucky licks his lips again. "You have?" Bucks asks.
"Yeah! The reason I asked to meet up is that I happen to be in New York for the first time in years," you explain to him and Bucky nods his head. "I know the first time we met wasn't exactly a fun one, but I figured we could put that behind us."
"Absolutely," Bucky sighs in relief, wanting to apologize to you for almost killing you that day in the hanger. "I've also been thinking about that a lot."
"Oh! That's great. Do you want to meet up for coffee or something?" You ask him and Bucky agrees. "Great! Uh, there's a quiet Café on the main drag that's right near the bookstore-"
"Oh, yeah, I know the one that you're talking about," Bucky mumbles and you mutter to yourself incoherently, a smile coming to the super-soldiers lips. "I'll see you in an hour?"
A grin settles on your lips as you look out the window of your hotel room, nodding your head before verbally agreeing with the plan. You bid Bucky goodbye and hang up the phone, sliding the device into your back pocket.
You've thanked Steve a few times already for providing you with Bucky's number. Captain America told you all about his past to try and make up for how he reacted in the airport hanger years ago.
You didn't blame him for his actions as you understand the reason why he did what he did. You just hope that the two of you can put your past behind you and be friends. "Here goes nothing…" you trail off before leaving your hotel room.
-
Bucky sits in one of the booths, fiddling with the gloves on his hands as he waits for you to arrive. He chews on his bottom lip when the bell attached to the cafe's front door chimes, making the super-soldier turn his head towards it.
His blue eyes soften at the sight of you. You're looking around the Cafe frantically before your eyes meet his. A smile comes to your lips as you give him a small wave and start walking towards him.
"Hey, Bucky," you greet and the brunette stands up from his seat. "You look great. The haircut suits you well."
Bucky awkwardly smiles and runs a hand through his hair. "Thank you," he whispers as his heartbeat quickens. "You look great as well. It's been… a while for sure."
A chuckle leaves your lips as you nod your head in response, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. "Do you want a coffee?" You ask him and Bucky shakes his head, politely declining your offer. "Okay. I'll be right back, hold on."
He watches you from the booth as you order your coffee. Bucky lets out a huff of breath, trying to relax his nerves before you come back over here. Am I really ready for this?
"So, what have you been up to?" You ask the brunette as you sit across from him. You look into his eyes while sipping the scalding hot coffee, awaiting his answer.
"Uhm, not much really. I-I go to therapy every few weeks. It was one of the requirements for my pardon," he explains and you nod your head in response. Bucky clears his throat and scratches the back of his neck, feeling the leather gloves tug on the small hairs. "I've been trying to make amends with people who I've wronged."
You hum with an eyebrow raise, swallowing the liquid before speaking. "Oh, that's good. Is it working? Like, how are you feeling about that?" You question him and Bucky swallows thickly.
I still have nightmares every night. He thinks to himself as he stays quiet, not really knowing how to answer the question. "Uh-"
"I hope I'm not prying too much," you cut him off with wide eyes, just now realizing your intrusiveness. "I just… Steve's told me quite a bit about you and I know that you almost killed me when we first met, but I find you intriguing, Bucky."
Bucky smiles softly and shakes his head, not noticing any sign of fear in your eyes. "You're intriguing," he states and you can feel your cheeks heat up at his words. "I had my hand wrapped around your throat and here you are, trying to be friends with me. It's incredible really. Something I've never seen."
You shrug your shoulders while fiddling with your fingers, a shy smile on your lips. "I believe in everyone having second chances," you mumble to him and Bucky nods his head.
"Well, I'm really glad you're providing me with a second chance," he softly whispers as his heart flutters in his chest.
-
You run down the streets of lower Manhattan, quickly making your way towards the building the GRC are held in. You heard about the hostage threat on the news and for some stupid reason, you wanted to be close to the action.
Once you make it to the front of the building and stand behind the police barricade they have set up for the public. Your eyes see Bucky's figure walking around on the other side and your eyes widen.
"Bucky!" You call out, causing some heads to snap your way. A blush covers your cheeks while mumbling an apology.
The super-soldier walks over to you and looks around him cautiously. "Y/N, what are you doing?! You shouldn't be here!" He quietly scolds and you look up at him through your lashes, heavy breaths leaving your lips.
"You know me… I like an adventure. You remember the airport incident," you remind him, and Bucky's jaw clenches.
"Unfortunately, I do, yeah," he comments and grabs a hold of your hand before leading you off somewhere else. "Listen, Karli and her team are here and she's using people against us. I don't want you getting hurt."
Your eyes trail down his chest, noticing the metal all he's currently sporting. "You changed it," you whisper and reach your hand out, gliding your fingertips along the cool surface.
Bucky swallows thickly as his eyes move from your face to your hand on his arm. "Y/N," he softly mumbles and your eyes move to his blue ones. "Please do me a favor and get out of here. Please."
"Okay," you tell him while nodding your head, causing the super-soldier to let out a sigh of relief. "Be careful."
Bucky chuckles and mumbles incoherently as you lean on your toes, kissing the corner of his lips. The laughter dies on his lips as a blush covers his cheeks, his hand moving to grip your forearm gently. You pull away from him and smile up at him before making your way back towards your apartment.
You begin to feel uneasy during your walk home, looking over your shoulder every few seconds to make sure no one's following you. A small scream leaves your lips as you find someone wearing a mask in front of you, blocking your path. You take a couple of steps back and swallow the lump in your throat as your back collides with someone.
You didn't have time to say anything before getting knocked out by one of the men, losing consciousness instantly. A member of the Flag Smashers easily picks up your body before bringing you to their leader, Karli.
When your eyes flutter open, you see a shorter redhead standing in front of you with a phone pressed to her ear. "Listen here, Bucky. I don't want to hurt you guys, but you're giving me no choice," she starts and you begin to panic slightly as you feel your wrists bound together behind your back. "So, I'm gonna make a deal with you. You and Sam pack it up and leave… or I hurt your precious Y/N."
Bucky's breath hitches in his throat at the sound of your name, his eyes dancing around the area he's standing in. "I swear to God if yo-"
"You've got one hour to make a decision," she cuts him off before hanging up. You look up at the girl as you breathe heavily, chest heaving rapidly. Karli walks towards you before crouching slightly. "Let's hope Bucky cares enough about you to listen."
"Sam, they've got Y/N," the super-soldier informs him through comms, his heart pounding in his chest as Sharon runs up to him. "We need to find her before Karli does anything to her."
"I know where they are," the blonde mentions to Bucky, and his blue eyes snap towards her. "C'mon, I'll show you the entrance."
Sam finally joins the two as they stealth their way through the building, avoiding any member of the Flag Smashers as best as possible. "She'll be okay," Sam reassures Bucky who clenches his jaw in response, hoping that he's right.
A pained yelp leaves your lips as one of the members punches you across the face. You lean your head back, growing tired of the questions Karli's asking. "Fuck you," you growl and spit some blood onto the floor beside you. "You think you're helping but you're making it worse."
Karli's nostrils flare up before nodding her head once more. The same man who's been beating you the past thirty minutes throws another punch at you, causing the chair you're sitting in to fall back against the concrete.
"You should think before you speak," she snarls before walking away from you. "C'mon, leave her here. We've got shit to do."
You pant heavily as you lay helplessly on the ground, the chair crushing your hands beneath you. "This is what happens when you adventure off, Y/N," you say to yourself while staring up at the ceiling.
Your ears perk up at the sounds of multiple footsteps, your heartbeat quickening as you think they've come back to finish you off instead. "Y/N?" Bucky calls out and a weight lifts off your shoulders while a sigh of relief leaves your lips.
"Bucky," you cry out and attempt to move.
The super-soldier kneels beside you before lifting your chair. "Hey, you okay?" He asks softly and you nod your head.
"As okay as I can be," you whisper with a pained smile. Sam undoes your restraints as Bucky places his right hand against your cheek, stroking your bruised skin gently.
"I'm sorry," you both say simultaneously, earning a chuckle from the brunette in front of you.
Bucky helps you stand up, his metal hand resting on your waist while the other grabs a hold of your hand. "I'm gonna give you my address and the key to my apartment," he tells you and you nod your head, listening carefully. "Go there and stay inside until I get back, okay?"
"Y-Yeah," you whisper and grab the key from his fingers, gripping onto it tightly. You swallow thickly as the pain begins to take over. A hiss leaves your lips and Bucky looks down at you with a worried expression. "You happen to have a first aid kit at your place?"
"Under the bathroom sink," he informs you, and you nod before heading towards the exit.
Bucky calls out to you and you glance over your shoulder to look back at him. You watch him as he quickly walks over to you before capturing your lips with his. A short gasp leaves your lips while wrapping an arm around his neck, threading your fingers through his hair. He pulls away after a few moments, his heavy breaths fanning your lips and you let out a soft chuckle.
“Come back alive and there’s more where that came from,” you whisper to him and Bucky lets out a laugh before shaking his head.
“But I’m one who kissed you,” he reminds you and you shush him, giggling.
“Well, if you want more, come back alive, mmkay?”
Bucky licks his lips before nodding his head in response, pressing a soft kiss to your lips once more. “I promise, now go,” he demands. You bite your lip and nod your head, continuing to walk towards the exit.

You sit on the kitchen island counter, swinging your feet as your eyes are glued to the television screen. It’s been a few hours since you arrived at Bucky’s apartment, your eyes widening at the very little furniture he has in the place. A sigh of relief leaves your lips as Sam comes on screen, the newscast recording the speech he’s currently giving.
You can hear the doorknob jiggle and your eyes snap towards the front door, watching Bucky walk through it. “Buck,” you whisper out with a grin on your lips, his blue eyes glancing towards you.
The super-soldier waltz’s over to you before wrapping his arms around your shoulders, bringing you into his chest. “I’m glad you’re alright,” he whispers and you nuzzle your face into his neck, inhaling his scent.
“I could say the same about you,” you tell him while dragging your fingers through his hair.
Bucky pulls away from you and drags his hands down your sides, kissing your forehead softly. “You get everything bandaged up?” He asks you and you nod your head, grinning like a fool.
“Yeah, nothing needed to get bandaged, but I’ll have some killer bruises,” you laugh and Bucky frowns, his eyes casting down to your torso. “I’ll be fine, Bucky.”
"I just worry," he whispers and your heart flutters in your chest. You bring your hand to his face, stroking his cheekbone gently as the brunette leans into your touch.
You lick your lips as you reach into your back pocket before pulling his little booklet out. "I, uh, found this lying open when I got here," you inform the super-soldier and his blue eyes look down at the small notebook. "I crossed my name out for you."
Bucky gently takes the book from your hand and shoves it into his jacket pocket before lacing your fingers with his. "Thank you… for reaching out to me that day."
You grin, leaning forward to kiss his lips gently and Bucky hums into the kiss. "I'd do it again in a heartbeat."

one shot, where john walker is really rude to reader(insults her & shit), but she stands up for herself. they(her & john) get into a fight & bucky finds out by surprisingly swinging by her apartment. of course bucky is pissed, but he tends to her wounds. then for some stupid reason, john shows up at readers apartment & bucky loses it. but it ends in bucky admitting his feelings to reader n some fluff 😩

Y/N sighed, as she plopped onto the couch after a long day. She, Bucky, and Sam had spent the whole day researching the Flagsmashers to try and track them down. It took all day, partially because Bucky needed a little extra help with learning how to use his laptop. She chuckled at the memory, grabbing the remote to turn her TV on. Suddenly, a loud, aggressive, knock interrupted her thoughts. She sighed and leaned her head on the back of her couch, taking a moment to debate leaving her very comfortable spot, before getting up to answer the door. Y/N knew that she probably should have peeked through her peephole before answering, but she wanted to return to the comfort of her couch as soon as possible. She opened it to see none other than John Walker, greeting her with a smirk. Y/N rolled her eyes.
“What are you doing here, John? How the hell did you even get my address?”
“All government property has GPS tracking in it," he said, pointing to her laptop on the kitchen table behind her. She turned and frowned as he continued. "Look, you need us, me and Battlestar, to take down Karli.” She looked back at John, laughing at Lemar’s alias.
“No way I’m letting someone who goes by Battlestar help me out.” He glared at her comment. “Or you, a Captain America wannabe.”
John took an aggressive step closer, way too close for Y/N’s comfort, as he replied. “I am Captain America, whether you like it or not.”
"You'll never be Captain America," she snapped back. "You don't have what it takes." He glared at her and put his face right in front of hers.
"How would you know? You're a pathetic excuse for a soldier," he spat and Y/N grimaced at John's spit landing on her cheeks. He looked at her, his eyes examining her body. She hated every second of it, his stare making her feel grimy all over, like she immediately needed a shower. “Who’d you fuck to get into the Avengers anyways? Bet it was Steve.”
John’s comment was immediately followed by Y/N’s fist connecting with his cheek, forcing him to stagger back into the hall. She’d heard concerns about her abilities as an Avenger before, calling her weak, fragile, a bitch, etc. But she knew they almost always came from misogynistic men, and was able to shrug their comments off because she knew that she could easily beat all of them to a pulp, no problem. But thinking that she would sleep her way into becoming an Avenger crossed a line. Especially someone she respected and had admired as much as Steve.
John held his hand to his cheek, where he’d been hit, and looked up to make eye contact with Y/N. He smiled and before stating in a condescending tone, “That was cute.” John kicked her in the stomach, launching her onto the floor of her apartment. As she groaned and started to get up, John chuckled and kicked her down before she got to her knees. He went to kick her again when she rolled away, dodging his kick and standing up quickly, panting as she responded.
“God, do you ever shut the fuck up?”
She kicked her leg up to deliver a roundhouse kick to John’s face, spinning around to punch his nose. He stumbled a couple steps back, regaining his balance before swinging a punch towards Y/N. She caught his fist before it hit her and John took the opportunity to use his free hand to grab his shoulder and knee her in the stomach. She gasped, getting the wind knocked out of her. He then threw her into a shelf, shattering several photo frames on the ground. She landed on her stomach, attempting to get up by pushing her self up on her forearms. Y/N felt a warm liquid on her cheek and touched it, pulling it away from her face to see her fingertips covered in blood.
“Asshole,” she mumbled, before standing up to continue fighting.
Several moments ago, Bucky had made the decision to show up at Y/N’s apartment. He pressed some random keys on his computer, and now there was an error message that wouldn’t go away on his screen. Stubbornly, he tried to fix it on his own but ended up making it worse. He sighed in defeat, closing his laptop shut and tucking it under his arm before heading over towards her apartment. Bucky was just down the hall when he heard the sound of glass shattering, his leisurely stroll turning into a sprint to Y/N’s door.
Bucky arrived to see you pinned up against a wall with John’s hand around ur throat. Your hands were desperately clawing at John’s, attempting to free yourself from his grasp. Fear and terror consumed him before a wave of fury took over. Immediately, Bucky launched into action, dropping his laptop in the process. He ripped John away from you, tossing him on the ground. Bucky moved to hover over John, punching him repeatedly in the face. Y/N finally caught her breath and crawled over to Bucky, placing a hand on his shoulder, signaling him to stop. He kept his eyes on John’s bloody and bruised face, lowering his fist.
“Touch her again, and I’ll kill you,” he snarled, releasing John from his grasp.
John rolled over, took a moment to catch his breath. Bucky was standing, fists still clenched by his sides, as he watched John get up and exit Y/N’s apartment without another word.
He closed the door behind him and immediately spun around to see Y/N struggling to get up, attempting to push up from one of her knees. Bucky instantly rushed to her side, helping her to her feet. He grabbed one of her hands in his own and placed his other hand on the small of her back, as he guided her to the couch. He examined her and felt a pain in his chest, looking at her black eye, cut cheek, and her bruised neck outlined with John’s handprint. Without saying a word, he stood up and returned with a first-aid kit from her bathroom. He sat back down and immediately started to tend to her wounds. As Bucky started to disinfect the cut on her cheek, he spoke.
“That was stupid of you,” he mumbled, gently dabbing antiseptic ointment on her cut. It was a drastic contrast from his behavior only minutes ago, nearly ready to murder John. He took a bandaid from the kit and delicately placed it on her cheek. Bucky then moved his hand to assess her black eye, his thumb softly grazing a soft patch of skin under her eye. She frowned and lightly pushed his hand away.
“I would’ve been fine on my own, you know.”
“Sit still so I can take a look at your bruise.” He responded gruffly, lifting his hand and attempting to look at her bruised eye again. She shoved his hand away, this time more aggressively, and tried to stand up.
“Just leave me alone,” Y/N said, wincing and clutching her abdomen in pain, causing Bucky to grab her waist and slowly lower her back down onto the couch. Fucking John Walker.
“Y/N.”
She pulled his hands off her and reluctantly sat down to face him.
“You don’t need to defend me, Bucky,” she spoke, Bucky sensing anger in her voice. “I’m not some weak, helpless civilian. I’m a god damn Avenger for christ sake!” As Y/N shouted, her voice wavered and her eyes started to well up with tears.
Her arms were crossed in front of her chest and Bucky sat with his hands resting on his lap. Although she was speaking to Bucky, she felt like she was more-so trying to convince herself of what she was saying.
“I know,” he said calmly, but with a stern tone, keeping his eyes locked on hers.
“Okay, so leave me alone.”
“I can’t.”
“Why not!”
“Because I fuckin’ care about you!” Bucky shouted, causing Y/N’s face to immediately soften.
Her arms dropped to rest in her lap and she froze as Bucky softly raised his hand to cup her cheek, captivated by his touch. He cautiously moved, worried she would push his hand away again, but she didn’t. His thumb gently caressed her non-cut cheek and he pulled her face close to his. She felt his breaths fan her face as he spoke.
“I know you’re one of the strongest Avengers,” he started. “And I know you could kick John’s ass any day of the week. But I care so much about you and I need you to be okay.” Bucky’s lips hovered over Y/N’s, lightly brushing against hers.
“I need you, Y/N.”
She responded by crashing her lips onto his, moving her hands to hold his face closer to hers. The kiss was full of passion, love, and unspoken feelings. When they broke apart, gasping for air, Y/N smiled at him and ran a hand through his hair.
“I care about you too, Buck.”
Bucky had never seen such a bright light in his 106 years of living.
