a/n: inspired by an army's "bts as haikyuu characters" post on twitter and @haikyuuublog 's post about haikyuu as ship/trope dynamics, correct me if im wrong (ur content is so entertaining it inspired me to explore bts and hq's dynamics lol). anyway, it's about time i unleash the armyweeb in me *dramatically chuckles*

but together (even though they may seem like an odd match) they get along pretty well

kenma (yoongi) goes with the flow with whatever kuroo (hobi) feels like doing

i mean,

kenma played volleyball for kuroo and yoongi applying facemask infront of thousands of people ON LIVE because he's with hobi

also, let's not forget the ten years history both pairs have in common

I’m back with the next episode of IB. Kinda interesting and genuinely an episode where I didn’t have much crack material on and was kinda invested in what was happening. Maybe I also liked it cause Shivaay was quiet throughout and didn’t say something that was elitist, harassing type or too terrible to ignore. Lol. Now enjoy the rest of the liveblog!

E13: Sensible Things Happen

- Yay, unlike IMMJ2 there is a hospital here.

- Shivaay has a heart condition? Interesting.

- OMG OM IF YOU EXISTED IN IPK THE STORY WOULD BE DONE IN TWO SECS. Like just as the doc said that the poison was spread by touch - he immediately knew WHICH WOMAN IT WAS EVEN THOUGH HE WASN’T PAYING FULL ATTENTION!

- That means we have Arnav saying “oh no, my love and my brother in law betrayed me” to which Om would be “no bro, Shyam was harassing her. I saw Khushi’s resistance and I actually stayed by the terrace to hear the next half of the sentence”. Ah, Om…

- Detox process? Interesting… I thought they’ll administer the antidote but cool, I’m happy with that I’m seeing.

- Damn, Rudy remembering all the bro advertisements. He is legit remembering all the advertisements. I guess he owned the PR company, no wonder he’s so hurt.

- Ok but seriously, my heart is aching for these two bros.

- You know when the infallible member of the family collapses, everything around it collapses too.

- OH OM AND RUDY, you guys are breaking my heart. Poor boys. Also, thank you for normalizing affection between brothers?

- I WANT TO MURDER THIS BUAJI. YES ANNIKA THANKS FOR THE HONORS. Oh, I like that they put Shivaay’s music to Annika’s anger here.

- Can I say Shivaay’s dad is such a good actor. Like without a word he literally shows how devastated he is!

- Yay, Shivaay is safe (I’m only happy for the other bros and storing my hate because I know he’s going to do some real shit to Annika later).

- Ok… so this is the new 4Lions aesthetic of putting old songs in between. I see. Interesting.

- This is, in short, a MAHA ADVERTISEMENT. Can’t figure out for what though…

- Yes Annika, I feel the same. He may have problems, a thousand enemies, everything - but it will never make him less of a villain.

P.S: I was so upset when IB released cause that’s how much of prominence I wanted for all the 3 IPK Bros - Arnav (Shivaay), Akash (Om) and NK (Rudy). So I vowed to never watch this show...

So I started the hogwarts au like i dunno, 3 weeks ago? And i wasnt like, sure into dsmp lore by then. I like threw myself into the mcyt fandom shdhs.

I think I was like, kinda in it, finally understanding how to keep up with the lore, but only really paid attention to the ccs I already knew about (the dteam, wilbur and tommy, some others).

So when I made the hogwarts au I like, it was still good. But because I'm me i did it the way i wanted, and decided to center the au mostly around the charas i knew. Idk if i mentioned it anywhere but i made a list of like, the charas i cared about most to least.

The ones near the top were the ones I knew the most about, so I decided to put a list of like 10ish of the ccs i knew the most about and only went into the complicated lore (what their wands were, what their pets were, their patronuses, etc) for those ccs

But heres the problem

Now more stuff has been added to the dsmp, and I'm finally caught up with lore so I'm like, actively here now. I joined around like, ok so I first heard of and was looking at the smp when the s1 finale happened. Then I spent maybe like 2 weeks figuring shit out? I think i started actively watching Tommy's streams (he was the only one i watched at first besides george, now i still mostly do tommy and techno but i also love watching Karl's streams, ranboos, but the rest of the lore is a lil hard for me to keep up with lol @starwither on tumblr is my savior) like, maybe a week before i made the hog au. Ok I'll be honest i dont remember the exact timeline, but luckily for you it's not relevant at all

So the problem is, over the past 3 weeks I got into the lore officially sticking with the streams, exploring different characters, and actually looking at the rest of the streamers instead of the main ones I lister previously

So now, like, for example I did not know who fundy was at all. I had heard of quackity and realized he was super relevant to the schlatt arc cause I think I was catching up to that at the time so he was on the lsit, but I didnt know shit about fundy besides that he was Wilbur's son in canon so I was like "ok I'll make him younger than will but idk him so I wont put him in the list"

But now I've watched more shit and like--- I'm love him🥺🥺🥺

But I already went and added all the random facts and itll be so much work to add fundy and ranboo and the ppl I know better now that i think will be more involved in the stories cause ik them better

But ugh so much workkkkk😔😔😔😔😔

But honestly I'm probably gonna do it

At least for fundy and ranboo (and possibly quig and pete they're not dsmp but they're crazy relevant cause I mean look at their mccs)

I'm p sure there are others but those are the main 2 I can think of that I didnt know shit about before

Ugh the problem is also that I just dont know nobody

Like captain puffy I decided to make a prefect literally last second so thered be 2 relevant chara 5th year prefects, but like, that was a guess I havent seen a single stream of hers. I'm thinking I'm gonna go through mcc vods of diff teams to try and knock off 2 stones at once (learning charas AND deciding their strengths and weaknesses in the hcc and quidditch n stuff)

Last night I went and finally did quidditch shit (I dont know how quidditch works I had to do research shdhshd idk shit) and I didnt have enough charas

I based it on rocket spleef (yall dont even know this yet my tumblr followers yall get sneak peek) and so I had like, maybe 10 charas I wanted for sure on teams. Then I had like 4ish that didnt do mcc but i thought i wanted them on a team (example: minx)

And that sounds like a lot yeah

Then I realized that it equals out to like 3 members per house and theres supposed to be 7----

So I kinda bsed the rest of the team

I went to the list of caring most to least, looked at the least section cause that's streamers that I dont know ANYTHING ABOUT but they're still current mcytbers/streamers so yeah

And I basically just threw all the ones who were in mcc into it 🤡🤡🤡

And I also bsed their houses so bad cause I DONT KNOW THEM HSHDSHS so it's probably fucking awful but I once again do not care

I still only ended up with 5 ppl per team but it's fine I mostly just didnt add some chasers theyll just be Generic BG Character That's Probably A Fandom Character That I'll Yearn For Someone To Comment About

I cant wait to post the quidditch chapter smile

WAIT

Now that I have a blog for this stuff I can finally start talking about my Bendy and the Ink Machine/Undertale crossover(?)!!!!

Alright, so the WIP title is Flowey and the Ink Machine. I don’t have the whole BG story mapped out yet, but I wanna talk about the basics!!

Alright! So.

The story/game starts with a kid (Frisk), who wonders into an abandoned animation studio on the seedy outskirts of their city. It’s rumored those who go never return, but for whatever reasons draw Frisk to the Underground in UT, they decide to go.

The first level is nearly identical to BatIM, except instead of the Dancing Devil Darling, the cartoon was about a Flower. Flowey the Dancing Flower. And his misadventures with his friends, Chara, an Angel, and Asriel, a goat boy. The “antagonists” of the show are two skeleton pilots, Sans and Papyrus, and their militaristic boss/fish person, Undyne. (Bear in mind, the names would all be changed to period appropriate).

Complete with creepy cardboard cut outs and everything, the child explores and eventually restarts the ink machine using the tokens from the six fallen children (in this case, employees I suppose? Maybe the employees children?), then gets startled by some sort of goat looking demon and falls (Asriel’s human soul form but ink demon-ified).

Now. There would be five (maybe six) levels. They’d wouldn’t be named as such, but they’d represent The Ruins, Snowdin, Waterfall, Hotland, and I haven’t decided if New Home and The Barrier should be one or two levels (but I’m leaning toward two).

The searchers, lost ones, and butcher gang members would be the side character monsters you meet throughout Undertale. You don’t have to kill them.

In the Ruins level, aka the first one after you fall, it plays out similarly to BatIM, except Toriel replaces Sammy, and instead of trying to sacrifice you, she’s trying to prevent you from going further. She knows what happens to those who continue, and wants to protect you.

After you inevitably convince her, she lets you continue on to level two, Snowdin. Sans replaces Boris, and in a very odd way, Papyrus replaces Alice. Instead of tasks, you have to complete difficult and convoluted puzzles, with the, well, lack of aid from Sans. They both mean well, they do. But the characters are almost more like their Horrortale counterparts in their levels of sanity. They’re, you know, bizarre ink-cartoon amalgamations. Obviously they’re not “okay”.

After you solve all of the puzzles, the brothers admit going forward is a death sentence, and you wind up hanging out with them for a little before resolving to continue. They warn you of the Ink Demon.

Level three would be Waterfall. Undyne replaces Norman at this point, as far as mechanics go, and you try to sneak through to the safer part of the level. If you succeed, you do not have to fight her and you can get to Hotland. Otherwise, you have to fight and abscond to continue. You are still being occasionally harassed by the other monsters and the Ink Demon.

At this point, you’ve reached not just Hotland’s level, but the cores as well, (the old ink machine), which replaces Bendyland (including all of the puzzles and whatnot). Mettaton would replace Bertrum, while the Amalgamates replace Brute Boris. They are much more ever present, and Alphys does not sick them on you as Alice does, she cannot soothe them until they are tired out from chasing or fighting you. She replaces Allison, in that regard, by saving you and guiding you to the next level. New Home. The Ink Demon is almost ever present by this point.

Sans judges/warns you in the administration office type area, and then you head the rest of the way to the Machine.

Asgore is there, claiming he will use your soul to complete the machine and save all the souls of those trapped inside it. But before you can fight him, the Ink Demon reappears, and absorbs the souls of all of the other ink creatures to become The God of Hyperdeath. You fight, blah blah blah, and he turns out to be Asriel, and he returns all of the souls to the ink beings and lets you go.

Here’s where things get grim folks.

After you spend time with everyone, the only way to save them, is to turn off the machine. They know this. And they let you. You can escape while the building is collapsing, and that, is the end of the game. Everyone is free now. Not as heartwarming as Undertale, but I’d argue it’s kinder than BatIM.

There’d be a lot more in the game to reveal the back story, but since I haven’t settled on that yet, it will remain unspecified for now lol.

And there is a geno version, but I figured I’d make a separate post for that!

So yeah!! I doubt I’ll ever get around to writing out an actual fic for this, now that I think about it. Oof. But I definitely wanna flesh out more of the story, and finalize some character designs!! (I wanna change Papyrus and Sans’ already lmao)

I’d really like for Joey and Henry at least to still play some role in this, I’m just not sure how to tie it all together yet!! But I’ll figure something out!! Eventually...

In which God-like!Yuzu and Extra!Yuzu strike again. Plus Mao, Akiko and Kanako being really cute XD

Keep in mind the footage+jpn subs are repeated very often because the clips are short and the narrator needs more time to speak. Hence the subs are translated only once - so don’t worry if you see more jpn text boxes than you do my translations.

Narrator (N): Cut-Out TV, part 8!

(introduces the professional lip readers)

[00:31 onwards]

N: First off - figure skating. Starting from Hanyu Yuzuru, who won the gold medal in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

N: With tears, the one who moved all of Japan - Asada Mao

N: And Suzuki Akiko, Murakami Kanako.

N: It started 3mths ago at the Japanese Nationals for figure skating. After all the programs had ended, the representatives for the Olympics were announced.

N: The ones who were chosen as representatives were announced, following which they would proceed to the rink. Once on ice they would greet the crowd in the centre of the rink, or it was so assumed...

Next up (after pairs), the one whose name was called, Suzuki Akiko, appeared from the bottom of the stairs. And so...

Hosts: Taking off those shoes must be difficult right? (t/n: they're referring to the blade covers)

Akiko: (subs) Do I go to the centre? (t/n: she literally says "spin?" which refers to greeting the crowd on all 4 sides)

N: After confirming with her team mates what to do,

Hosts chatter in bg: ahhh i understand this; yes I can understand this situation

N: Suzuki greets the crowd.

N: Next up, Asada Mao also comes up from below the stairs, where she can't actually see the ice. As she does...

Hosts: ahhh you don't know what's gonna happen (in this situation)! Ah, Mao-chan, Mao-chan

Hosts: did she confirm with them? Ah! No, Mao-chan!

*Mao turns to Akiko then jumps to the centre*

Hosts: Ahh so cute! Ahhhhhhh, yes thank you (t/n: he's replying to her bow as if she were greeting them in real life)

N: When we look at it from another camera angle...

Akiko: (subs) Are you not going to spin (greet the crowd)?

Mao: !!

N: To Mao, who forgot to head to centre and instead lined up with everyone, Suzuki said...

Hosts: If it was an unspoken agreement, it may have been better to just tell everywhere (to greet the crowd)

N: With Suzuki's sudden question, Asada somehow managed to scrape by without incident.

N: Even then, you can hear laughs from the crowd

Hosts: her expression is good isn't it?

Mao: I forgot!

Hosts: Ah she forgot!

N: And then, after this, N: Murakami Kanako, who is also coming up from where she cannot see the ring, arrives energetically.

Mao: Did you greet them? *to Akiko*

Hosts: This is beginning to feel like they're pranking every single one of them

N: The result is...

*Kanako makes the same mistake*

N: Then, we shall see it again from another angle.

Mao: Will she be like Mao (t/n: she's referring to herself in 3rd person) and forget? Or will she do it (greet)?

Hosts: Tell her (what to do)!

Mao: Go to the centre and greet the crowd! Akiko: Spin! Spin! Kanako: Ah, the greetings!

Hosts: Aha! Hey hey what are you saying so pompously Mao-chan? You didn't do it yourself either! (t/n: this guy really likes her hahah) 2nd host: Wow even these things happen (to them)

N: Asada, who was wondering if (Kanako) would make the same mistake she did - and as expected... Seeing as how they were all waiting in an area where they couldn't see the rink, it can't be helped.

Hosts: But this is a thing right, definitely. If you were waiting below, you'd be worried about what to do too.

Kanako: You didn't greet the crowd either? Mao: I had no idea Mao: So I just lined up!

Hosts: Ah Mao told her (that she made the same mistake), how great of her!

N: In the midst of all this, the next one to come on scene is...

Hosts: He's here! Ohh!

N: Of course, he too, has been waiting below the stairs where he cannot see the rink...but...

Hosts: If it's like that he wouldn't know either right? Tell him! Tell him!

*Yuzu greets the crowd*

Hosts: Ah!! As expected!! As expected of big brother! He's definitely the big brother! Yea big brother! Amazing. (t/n: they don't mean his actual age, they mean that he's acting like one who's experienced)

N: Again, let's look at it from the other angle

Hosts: I did wonder a little bit if he would or wouldn't do it.

Hosts: He's a guy you don't have to worry about isn't he.

N: For someone in his teens, it's (an) excellent (example).

Hosts: Totally different!

Yuzu: Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu! (t/n:usually translated as "pls take care of me", basically a common polite phrase used in greetings) Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!

Hosts: Ah!! He's saying "yoroshiku onegaishimasu"! He's the best at greeting people (properly). He's great.

N: Seeing Hanyu like this, Murakami unconsciously goes... *arrow pops out with Kanako's name*

Kanako: So cool!!

Hosts: He's made of different stuff, definitey.

N: This was the pleasant scene that took place at the announcements of the Olympic team members.

N: The revival after his injuries, he celebrated it with his coach.

Host: Hah! That's the guy people say look like me. (t/n: Brian Orser)

N: Right after that!

Yuzu: It's all thanks to everyone! Thanks to everyone! Thank you very much!

N: (He showed us) the image of him always cherishing his fans.

N: On top of that, this episode in April where he did his exhibition (2015 WTT)

Commentator (live on scene): Just hearing this music come on makes me excited, Parisienne walkways!

N: The programme he skated to that day was actually the SP he skated to in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. With the thoughts of wanting to show it to the Japanese people who were not able to see it live, he worked hard at this exhibition

Commentator (live on scene): There it is!! It's pretty isn't it?

N: He wanted to show the perfect program he had skated at the Olympics once again in this exhibition

Commentator (live on scene): It's extremely refreshing!

N: Exhibitions are shows that are not scored. Even so, Hanyu took on the pressure (of skating clean) all by himself.

Yuzu: Thank you!

N: Amongst the extremely satisfied crowd...

Hosts: He looks relieved

Yuzu: I was so nervous!

as most peeps well know, my bg is SEVENTEEN TEEN TEEN and ugh i love all their songs so much this is a real struggle but i think Pretty U, Beautiful, NO F.U.N, Healing and Fronting are the ones I listen to most consistently ??? (this was my biggest struggle in my 19 years idk man i like all their songs listen to them all)

ThatBlueSinger had been singing ever since she graduated from grade school. She is the lead guitarist and singer of the BG band, otherwise known as Blue Galaxy band. She is the leader of the band and she was the one who recruited her members. She started singing at the age of 13 when her school picked all of the best singers at her middle school to compete with another middle school. Her band was doing absolutely fine until…..

She died.

Then…. who was I talking to?

Tales of Zestiria - Forget Not Your Duty But Be Not A Slave To It Either

I just beat Tales of Zestiria. And wow, it is unlike any game I’ve played before. The story is gripping. The music is amazing. There are fights in this game that are so intense that after beating them you just feel exhausted. Or maybe it was because I was mashing the left mouse button way too much. Maybe I should get a controller some time. Hmm…

So is Tales of Zestiria my favourite Tales game? Well that’s a tough question. If I just stripped Zestiria down to it’s highlights then yeah, I’d have to say it’s the best. But here’s the thing. Between those highlights there are long stretches of time that you’re not doing anything.

There’s tons of backtracking. You have to complete sidequests and get 15 of these random items. There are objectives that are counter intuitive and you’ll need to Google them or you will have no idea what to do. There are unanswered questions and the story just doesn’t feel well put together. And that final boss… From what I hear it’s basically impossible unless you spam Rose’s dream slasher arte whenever he’s going to use his cheap one shot move which violates the number one rule of ending video games: don’t make the final boss overpowered.

So let’s start with the most important part first. The camera. Everyone has to know about the camera. Honestly it’s fine. You’ll just be button mashing for most battles anyways. I don’t know why people complain. To be honest it’s more funny than annoying.

There was one time I found the camera to be annoying. In a boss fight early on. With a boss named ‘Dragonewt’. Basically this guy will kill you in like 2 or 3 hits and you do basically no damage against it so you have to keep dodging until a cutscene triggered. And it was in a small room which made it difficult to dodge.

This is sort of a once in a game sort of a boss. Most of the bosses are easier but the bosses are still pretty tough. You get an option to retry a boss if you fail without having to reload a save or anything which is cool. I think I beat every boss within 3 retries with most beating them on my first try. Died a lot though. There was even this giant elephant boss that killed everyone in my party in 1 hit so I had to come back later.

In fact there are a lot of hard ‘boss’ enemies on the map. I’m not sure if this is a new thing, it feels like it could be in a previous Tales game but it’s new to me. Basically they’re weirdly coloured sometimes, although not necessarily always, huge monsters on the map. There’s usually one per map with other monsters on it. They don’t respawn. Don’t battle them immediately as they’ll most likely tear apart your entire team. Wait until you’re over-leveled, go back, and kill them for massive grade.

Speaking of grade there’s this new mechanic called the Lord of the Land. It goes with the plot of the game that you’re supposed to clear malevolence from the world. The Lords of the Land… well I’m not really sure what they do but it definitely has something to do with malevolence. The first 2 are part of the main quest and the rest are side quests. Basically they give you boosts when you’re in their land once you gain enough grade while in their land. It’s a fun little mechanic that makes you actually want more grade before the inevitable grade shop at the end.

But of course the biggest change is the new combat system. You’ve probably heard how battles take place on a modified version of the minimap rather than on a separate screen. It means no loading at the expense of the camera angles. There’s also no surprise attacks however you can get multiple enemies attacking you at once in a ‘dangerous’ encounter.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to changes to the combat system. The biggest change are the seraphim. Your party will usually consist of 2 humans and 4 seraphim which is good because you need at least 1 human fighting for every seraphim. Don’t ask me why that’s just how it is.

The Seraphim come in 4 elemental types: water, fire, earth, and wind. And there’s also quite a focus on elements. You even unlock the ability to use each of these elemental types outside of battles to get to new areas. It’s not quite metroidvania but it’s nice.

Also the big thing about Seraphim is you can switch them out during battle and while they’re switched out they can actually heal. Plus there’s a new armitization feature. Basically a human, except Alicia for some reason, can combine with a seraph (seraphim is the plural of seraph; I beat the entire game without knowing that) to be more powerful. Some people think this is overpowered. I don’t think so because you basically lose one party member while you’re doing it which on the harder fights, the ones you actually want to be strong in, is incredibly important. But I use armitization because a dead human and a seraph can armitize which will revive the human saving a life bottle. This sort of makes seraphim feel disposable.

I feel bad saying that because the seraphim are the best characters. Especially Edna the sarcastic one. I thoroughly believe if she was not in this game the game would turn out completely different. She delivers some of the most memorable lines in the game. And her interactions with Michleo, which she gives various names to such as Meebo, are just priceless. Also she has a really good side-quest with her brother Eizen, who I’m told is making an appearance in Tales of Berseria. Definitely beat this one even though it’s right at the end of the game when you’d rather be beating the final boss. It’s a real tear jerker.

The other characters are great too, although they’re a bit stereotypical. Also there’s Alicia who everyone seems to be disappointed didn’t get a large role in the game. One of the big things in this game is that most humans can’t see Seraphim which is a really big deal in the beginning. And makes for quite some drama. But at the end it’s almost like a forgotten fact and not brought up at all.

There’s also a lot of dialogue in this game. When you fight new enemies you will get a little dialogue about them. And there’s a bit of dialogue when you’re walking around but not too much. And there’s a new skit style, but to be honest it feels a bit unnecessary and change for the sake of change when you realize to fit all the characters on screen at once some are always covering each other especially Edna and her umbrella. It actually reminds me of something a reviewer said about Dawn of the New World. See this is what happens when you listen to reviewers. Also many of the skits can only be played at save points which is weird to say the least.

Also this game must have been a pain to translate for. There’s puns and jokes everywhere. However I don’t really like the parts of the game where two people say the same thing at the same time. It just seems unnatural to me.

Back to battling. There is really a lot to the battle system here. I don’t think I can cover everything in this article because, well, I don’t know everything about the battle system. It’s really complicated. They try to explain it with the monoliths and skits but to be honest they’re not really well paced and most of the time I didn’t really care and just wanted to kill hellions.

But even if they were done better I don’t think I could have learned everything. There’s just too much stuff. But I can tell you the basics. There’s this new SC system which appears to be a replacement for MP, or whatever the Tales games called it. Now every attack uses it and it recharges really fast. You start with full SC at the beginning of a battle but as you battle more and more you start with less and less. Until you go to an inn.

By the way you now need to buy a food item from the inn to stay there. Which is weird, I had to Google it to find that out.

So anyways if you don’t go to the inn you’ll be guarding a lot during battles to up your SC. Which I guess is sort of realistic. There’s also BG but that’s just your energy for mystic artes and armitization.

Back on the inn thing. There are a few dungeons quite far from inns which is disappointing. You may want to fast travel but this takes quite a lot of gald (it’s actually % based).

Also the reason why there’s fast travel is there’s no world map. In most Tales games I’ve played there’s a world map and half way through the game you get a way of flying wherever. Not the case in Zestiria. You’re not a comically big giant next to a city anymore. The world is divided into a bunch of maps like what you’d find in other games. I really don’t like it. There’s just so much backtracking now. Don’t cheap out like me and not use the fast travel. It’ll make the game so much more bearable.

Zesteria is one of the first Tales games to be released on PC. So how is it on PC? Surprisingly good actually. I heard some people say this is a ‘poor PC port’. When I think ‘poor PC port’ I think no mouse input, having to use arrow keys for everything, and in general a terrible experience for anyone playing with a keyboard and mouse.

So by that definition Zestiria is definitely not a ‘poor PC port’. The mouse and keyboard feel just like how it would normally work. The only problem is some of the keybindings are a bit off and the right mouse button is sometimes used in place of the escape button. I think once you start moving the mouse it switches from keyboard only to keyboard and mouse controls. So for some things like adding accessories (which is separate from costumes in Zestiria), it’s better to avoid moving the mouse. Also the ‘reload’ option sometimes reloads the wrong save. But it’s not that much of a problem.

But other than that it’s a perfectly usable PC port. Although if you have a controller hanging around I’d still recommend using that. There’s too much clicking in this game. Made me feel like I was going to get RSI at some points.

But there’s a few other things that make this game not pass for a native PC game. For one the battle keybindings are on the main menu. Who does that, right?

Also apparently it’s capped to 30 FPS. I wouldn’t know, I played the whole game with a mod that ups the cap to 60. Although it’s a little weird when you get to cutscenes which are still at 30, actually they’re at 24.

Which brings me to the best thing about Zestiria. In many games there’s just that one feature you wish every game would copy. Well this is it. When you keep on trying to walk through a character you actually walk through them. This is genius and would have been so great in Fallout and Far Cry.

Also the side quests are much easier to find now. No longer do you need a wiki to find them. They’re now marked on the map. However sometimes I wish I had a quest log to keep track of all the random quests. Also quest objectives are marked on the map (only if you’re on the same map) which is sort of weird because they’re too frequent and when there’s no objective it’s really hard to tell where to go. But I guess it’s fine.

The map has also changed. A lot of locations have a lot of vertical height and the way the game chooses to handle this is now the map displays content based on your height and you can scroll to look at higher and lower locations. Also the only way to move the map is to use the WASD keys not clicking and dragging like any normal game. Oh well. The map is not quite intuitive. I wish they did it a bit better.

One thing I saw mentioned in this game are the locations look generic. Which is true. Some locations look cool but most of them fall in your generic temple, outdoors trenches location, indoor cave, and water temple. Actually I think the water temple is another case of people picking on something because it’s just fun to pick on. And it’s true, the water temple is pretty annoying. Although the wind temple is also pretty bad; it’s just so big.

So in conclusion I really liked Tales of Zestiria. Sure, it doesn’t have the trademark final-boss-that’s-really-only-the-half-way-boss and no one betrays you in this game. But it’s a really interesting and fun game which I really enjoyed playing after playing so many serious western games.

Reviewing Zestiria is hard because even though it does so much right it also does so much wrong. Especially the very mid-game that just feels like it’ll drag on forever. And the story isn’t particularly memorable. But you can’t overlook the fact that Zesteria has some really nice ideas, characters, and plot points.

OK, so maybe it’s not the best Tales game ever. But if you had a shortlist of most complicated Tales games ever Zestiria would definitely be on that list.
