The Mythology of Keyblades: Riku the Beach Boy of Avalon
This theory is partially Crack and partially a genuine investigation into the usage of Arthurian mythology within the KH series.
Tumblr media
(this line from Monty Python & the Holy Grail inspired this whole theory: all i had to do was replace the referenced [Lady of the Lake] with Riku)
If you've loitered about the Kingdom Hearts fandom enough and read enough interviews with Tetsuya Nomura, you'll soon conclude that Riku is Tetsuya Nomura's Favourite Child in this series. Riku is the driving force for most of KH's story beats & Riku has played deuteragonist to Sora, story-wise if not in gameplay, in every game that isn't a prequel. Riku seems to gain a new & unique special ability with every game (often at a harsh price). Yet, for all the time the audience spends with Riku... the series is very careful about revealing anything about the boy beyond his utter devotion to Sora. The game even encourages players to Forget and Overlook the integral roles Riku plays in the series, typically via throwing a Kairi between him & Sora.
Jokes aside, while Riku's Secret Anime Prince coding is STRONG, it is not the point being explored here: there are 2 seemingly nonsensical Disney Crossovers established prior to most everything else: 'Alice in Wonderland' (something somewhat explored in my 'Princesses of Light as Stars' series of tinhattery) and 'The Sword In The Stone'. This post shall examine the latter, an animated adaption of the King Arthur myth, and how it is represented in KH not solely through the character of 'Merlin' but as the underlying principle behind the x-blade, Keyblade Wielding & how Riku acts as Kingdom Hearts itself.
Boy at Beach Distrubiting Swords
Let's start with Riku's Keyblades: he has had more than one, not due to gears or keychains but due to... apparently being able to churn fresh swords from his Heart as the Plot Requires.
The different keyblades used by Riku throughout the series thus far are the following:
Kingdom Key (Sora's default keyblade)
Souleater/Way to the Dawn (Riku's default from KH1 until KH2.9)
the Keyblade of Heart (while possessed by Apprentice Xehanort's Heartless, AKA Ansem Seeker of Darkness);
the [Combined Keyblade/"Gayblade"] (alongside Sora)
Braveheart (Riku's current keyblade)
(given that King Mickey found Kingdom Key-D in the Dark equivalent of the Destiny Islands & the whole "x-blade was made of light & darkness" thing... THAT keyblade, currently wielded by King Mickey, may ALSO come from Riku)
That's 5 different keyblades (6 if we include Kingdom Key-D), and ALL have been seen onscreen with at least 1 other, typically Kingdom Key, marking each of these keyblades as being 'distinct' and 'separate' from each other. Before figuring out what Heart Maths may be at play here... a brief interlude.
Young Adult Gifts Toddler Giant Sword: More Wholesome than it Sounds
Tumblr media
Supposedly, the ability to [manifest] & "wield" a keyblade is only possible through a successful Bequeathing Ceremony: Terra performed such a ceremony for Riku in BBS. This, however, is a method passed on by the Master of Masters & subsequent schools of keyblade masters: given... literally EVERYTHING seen on "traditional" schools of keyblade mastery, this Premise is Factually Dubious. The series shows multiple characters manifesting or otherwise wielding keyblades without any such ceremonies: even assuming that these rites "carry over" through acts of Posession and Cloning, the Need for a ceremony becomes questionable. This would not be the first (nor last) time in the KH series that the "knowledge" of Foretellers, Mentors & Scholars prove to be Assumptions rather than Absolute Fact.
Exhibit A: Axel & Accidents
Tumblr media
Axel is the best example as, unless we are later informed that Subject X performed the ceremony on Lea (or that Roxas or Xion did so without knowing), Axel has never been part of nor possessed by an existing keyblade wielder: his keyblade is entirely his own, a surprise to all.
Sora & Kairi were never formally bequeathed a keyblade though the latter "accidentally" inherited the ability from Aqua in BBS. Sora never had such a ceremony, the KH Wiki (dubious resource that it is) explains Sora's keyblade wielding as being a result of Ventus sleeping within Sora's Heart: I think it is more likely that, unlike the Formal Ceremonies of past keyblade schools may have taught, Hearts do not actually require outside recognition of "worth" in order to manifest a keyblade.
Once Upon A Meteor Shower
Tumblr media
Riku's Heart entrusting Kingdom Key to Sora in KH1, a last-ditch effort from its Light to keep to its Oath of Protection, strikes me as being more "faithful" to what we have observed of keyblades in-game. For all that the formally schooled Keyblade Wielders past recited "May Your Heart Be Your Guiding Key", no one embodies the intent of this principle more than the entirely self-taught Sora: Riku and King Mickey likely next closest in trusting their Hearts over what they have been taught.
A Heart entrusting its physical manifestation to Another due to the Connection between them seems a "Truer" bequeathment than the (admittedly heartwarming) recitations of a stranger. Keyblades may NOW be deemed "weapons" to conquer Darkness... but the original x-blade was made of Light AND Darkness, a union of forces working in balance rather than opposition. The first x-blade was a tool for Protection, not Hurt: a creation of Heart and, thus, of Love.
Exhibit B: Body & Hearts
Tumblr media
A creation of "Heart". As in, 1 heart = 1 keyblade. Multiple hearts in 1 body? Multiple keyblades.
Roxas is the Go-To example: the Nobody Twin of Naminé, created when Sora "unlocked" Kairi from his Heart whilst Ventus slept within it.
Roxas, in his every appearance, is capable of Dual Wielding: a keyblade from Sora, a keyblade from Ventus. Upon gaining an independent, replika body... Roxas can still, apparently, dual-wield.
...despite no longer sharing the Hearts of Sora nor Ventus (nor Xion).
(as this is a Riku speculation post, not a "what the heck is up with Roxas" one, i'll just... put a Pin in this mystery for now but the "maths" of 1 heart = 1 keyblade are, indeed, still facts of canon: Nomura confirmed as much when revealing the Above Album Art he made for Utada Hikaru's KH3 songs)
Exhibit C: Proof of Concept
Tumblr media
Then we have Aqua: she lost her keyblade between saving Ven & falling into Darkness. The keyblade of Master Eraqus came to her aid: this is consistent with the established concept of Bequeathing Ceremonies. It's uncertain whether the same person can bequeath keyblade-wielding to multiple persons but it seems likely given the scale of the Unions in KHX.
(At that same point in time, the Heart of Eraqus was hidden within a Nort'd Terra: 3 Hearts existed within Apprentice Xehanort, all of them in conflict with each other, to varying degrees.)
The keyblade Aqua receives, the keyblade of Master Eraqus, is named 'Master's Defender'. This was originally the keyblade of the Dandelion Brain but was passed onto Ephemer and from pupil to student until eventually being inherited by Eraqus. This seemingly aligns with the concept of Masters 'bequeathing' keyblades to students, specifically THEIR keyblades.
Interestingly, Riku has never wielded Terra's keyblade (or its likeness, via keychain) 'Earthshaker/Ends of the Earth' after its being bequeathed to him, likely due to its remaining with Terra's 'Soul', the 'Lingering Will' within his armour. If this is the case... NONE of the keyblades Riku has conjured or wielded are a result of his Bequeathment Ceremony. Terra's Keyblade becomes a 6th (or 7th) keyblade connected to Riku, albeit an unused one.
Speaking of Terra...
Tumblr media
Xemnas (the Nobody of Apprentice Xehanort AKA 'TerraNort') is NEVER seen wielding a keyblade, let alone two.
...but he DOES wield two [lightsabers]/'Ethereal Blades'.
If Xemnas had ever believed in his own personhood, it's plausible that he could have dual wielded keyblades like Roxas... though the conflict between the Hearts of Xehanort & Terra are unlikely to have cooperated long enough for dualwielding to be sustainable in combat.
Back to the Beginning
Tumblr media
Kingdom Key was formed by the Light within Riku's Heart. That Light entrusted itself to Sora while Riku himself was lost in Darkness. Riku is later seen wielding a different keyblade, 'Soul Eater'. Given that KH1 sets up a premise of there being 'two' Kingdom Keys, one of Light & one of Darkness... perhaps 'Soul Eater' was made from the Darkness within Riku's Heart. Maleficent or Ansem SOD would know better than most anyone how to create such a thing.
(it's still Weird that Riku's Heart is the ONLY Heart we see capable of manifesting TWO, simultaneously existing & separately wielded keyblades: Riku using Souleater never prevented Sora from using Kingdom Key; Souleater becoming 'Way to the Dawn' did not affect Kingdom Key; and Riku & Sora use each other's keyblades interchangeably in KH2, even dualwielding at times)
While Riku is possessed by Ansem SoD (the heartless of Apprentice Xehanort), he wields a keyblade forged by the hearts of 6 of the 7 Princesses of Heart: this keyblade is named 'Keyblade of Heart' or 'Keyblade of People's Hearts'. This is an artificially made keyblade, wielded by an entity made up of at least 4 people's Hearts (Riku, Xehanort, Terra, Eraqus) and it does not seem to survive past Ansem SoD's defeat.
During the events of KH2.9 (at the 'Drop Point' between the first timeline of KH3 & Sora's First Retcon), Riku and King Mickey find themselves struggling in the depths of the Realm of Darkness. They had hoped to find the missing Master Aqua yet their journey has only proven the point of Master Yen Sid's preventing such a rescue 10 years prior: alone, surviving the journey to the abyss would be all but impossible. Similarly, Sora immediately post-DDD would not have survived the pace set by Mickey & Riku: Sora needed the lessons and confidence boost he found through Herc & Meg before he was truly ready for Aqua's Attempted Rescue.
Before Sora has his Hero Moment (complete with Riku's slow-mo heart-eye reaction to it), Riku's keyblade 'Way to the Dawn'... breaks. Riku also spontaneously gets a Hair Cut. Not due to any attack landing on him from the Demon Tide nor due to any bout of Gay Agony: just... "randomly" (Sleeping Realm Theory covers this).
So then Riku casually manifests a BRAND NEW KEYBLADE, while not at all possessed nor acting as a Heart Hotel, and that keyblade is Braveheart.
(which is basically Kingdom Key but Make It Modern)
It's also in the Realm of Darkness that Sora & Riku first wield their Combined Keyblade whilst in the same plane of reality: in DDD, they wielded their blade across parallel dreamscapes. The [combined keyblade] in KH3 looks exactly as it did in Dream Drop Distance: half Mirage Split, half Nightmare's End.
How Many Hearts Does 1 Riku Have?
The highest number of "hearts" occupying 1 Riku is 10, in KH1: his own, Xehanort's & Terra's, the ghost of Master Eraqus (still biding his time for Maximum Drama), with the 6 Disney Princesses of Heart smooshed within the 'Keyblade of Heart' the Riku Vessel is wielding.
By that time in KH1, both Sora and Riku have wielded Kingdom Key. Riku had also acquired & begun wielding the 'Souleater' keyblade.
Kingdom Key is the keyblade born of the Light in Riku's Heart: a sword entrusted to a Crowned Prince from someone hidden within water, a gift that marks its wielder as a saviour and a fate-chosen king. Sora bears Riku's Crown, a pendant he is never seen without, and Riku (& his Heart) was sinking within both literal (storm and tide) and metaphoric (falling into darkness/sinking within deep waters) waters when Sora receives Kingdom Key. When Sora arrives in Traverse Town, the Final Fantasy & Disney characters there hold Kingdom Key in reverence: the Key follows Sora so THEY follow him too.
There is an Irony about every keyblade-related argument Sora & Riku have in KH1: Kingdom Key WAS Riku's before it was Sora's, the authority of the sword & reverence given to its wielder WAS on "loan" from Riku... but, ultimately, the wielder chosen by the Physical Representation of Riku's Heart & the Light within it?
Yeah, no, sorry Riku: your Heart Likes Sora More.
After KH1, Riku never attempts to "reclaim" Kingdom Key: it's probably during the events between KH1 & KH2 that Riku realises that Kingdom Key is not only a literal manifestation of his own Heart but that he believes Sora to be the best person to wield that "Heart", that "Destiny".
Even if Riku had not somehow managed to manifest the Souleater/Way to the Dawn keyblade, needing to "borrow" Kingdom Key during his year-long vigil at Sora's bedside... I doubt he would have KEPT the sword or that it would let itself be "kept".
Riku's unique connections to both Light AND Darkness make it somewhat reasonable to conclude that 'Souleater' is the Dark counterpart to Kingdom Key: a keyblade formed by the Darkness of Riku's Heart, a keyblade that evolves to 'Way to the Dawn' and Riku's efforts to master his Darkness and return to the Light.
(this still begs the question: how the heck does Kingdom Key-D fit into all this?? no, i'm genuinely asking: what is up with that keyblade)
ALTERNATIVELY! Kingdom Key-D was very logically forged by Riku's Darkness, manifesting in the Realm of Darkness alongside the Fallen Destiny Islands. This makes it Interesting that Mickey could carry it around prior to personally meeting Riku but, regardless of any realizations on its nature & likely relationship with Riku (or Sora), Mickey wields this keyblade-D from KH1 onward.
(This potentially leaves Mickey's Original Keyblade, seen in BBS, as yet ANOTHER keyblade available for Riku's use: the count has risen to 9, 8 if excluding Key-D.)
So... if Riku's Darkness forged Kingdom Key-D, what was Souleater & what IS Braveheart?
Alt #1: Riku, like any Strange Pond Person, can summon as many Magic Swords as Destiny Requires because... he is Literally Kingdom Hearts & that leaves ALL hearts "free" for his use.
Alt #2: The keyblades Riku wields (Souleater, Way to the Dawn & Braveheart) are all manifestations of SORA'S Heart. Sora may be oblivious as to why he is so fixated on Riku but, if Chain of Memories is anything to go by, Sora's HEART knows what it wants, damnit! Even without any allegedly required Bequeathment Ceremony, Riku is a "Child of Destiny" and had already crowned Sora as one too: just as Riku's Heart reached out to Sora, Sora's Heart may have reached BACK for Riku. Thus both boys end up with Keyblades: each holding onto a piece of the other (somewhat literally).
This gives additional explanation to their easy trading & wielding of each other's Keyblades in KH2: the keyblades "belonged" to BOTH boys and always had.
This interpretation easily applies itself to Sleeping Realm Theory, too: 'Way to the Dawn' still "broke" because of Riku's Sacrifice but instead of figuratively representing Riku's Heart "breaking" via his actually Dying, it would represent physically the effect that Sacrifice had on Sora: his Heart broke, "dying" with Riku.
Alt #3: Riku's extra keyblades were from Maleficent, "Ansem", Ansem &/or King Mickey. The timeline allows for Maleficent's providing Riku with the 'Souleater' keyblade: it does not QUITE align for the broken connection between Riku & his Would-Be Fairy Godmother that we can assume happened upon her death in KH1, nor account for any effects caused by her subsequent "resurrection". The timelines required for the other candidates to be involved are not consistent with that of the games nor supplementary canon.
Before wrapping up, let's acknowledge the Giant Crowned Rainbow Sword in the room:
Tumblr media
The [combined keyblade], wielded by Riku & Sora in DDD & KH3, is a manifestation of "their Hearts [beating] In Tune". It is That Simple: any efforts to straightwash its existence WILL cause plot holes so just Accept The Gayblade is Gay.
That the Gayblade just so coincidentally resembles both the Ultima keyblade(s) and various x-blades, definitely fit most description of what the x-blade is & how it can be made?
These are also Just Gay. Kingdom Hearts has been building up to (gay) Love being the Ultimate Power of the series from its very beginning: it has ALWAYS used heart imagery and symbolism, used Disney Couples to mirror the changing relationship of Sora & Riku, used "the connections between hearts" as a child's understanding of love (in all forms).
The logical evolution for a Coming of Age journey about a Boy & his Best Friend, in a series that repeatedly uses & is named for 'hearts', who have become stronger as their hearts became more attuned... is for said Boy to realise, acknowledge and recognise that the connection of their hearts has Changed into something less platonic: romantic love, like that between couples in Disney films, like Riku (& Selphie) brought up to Sora through star-shaped fruit before ever exploring those stars personally.
The [combined keyblade] was naturally forged through mutual devotion: its existence implies that the fabled x-blade of legend was ALSO forged by mutual love, that Kingdom Hearts chose its guardian because of Love, that the x-blade's legendary strengh came from its need to protect its dearly Beloved: there is no Straight Explanation for Sora & Riku being able to make the combined keyblade.

So, about this “child of destiny” thing—
I’m guessing that we, the Player, are once again going to be the protagonist of Missing Link, playing out the “second life” of our protagonist from Union Cross. During the game we hear of this “Child of Destiny” prophecy, and as it progresses, things start to become so dire that the Player deems it necessary to “jumpstart” the prophecy and create the Child of Destiny by taking a promising young child and raising him on Destiny Islands. However, this child, believing with unwavering faith all his life that he is this Chosen One, becomes a master of Darkness rather than Light, thus becoming Mom and Luxu’s “scapegoat”—playing into the idea that one cannot manipulate or puppet fate artificially. And given the description of the Child of Destiny in the prophecy, the most obvious candidate seems to be Sora.
But, on another note, this has me wondering—is the prophecy actually genuine? Or is it, perhaps, something created artificially? After all, before it was mentioned in Dark Road, this is the first time we’ve ever heard it mentioned. Where would it have come from? I suppose it could have been written in the Book of Prophecies, but honestly, that seems unlikely—if it was in there, it makes no sense that it was never mentioned in Union Cross. Since we don’t to our knowledge have any other sources for prophecy, it seems at least a possibility that this prophecy was created in the hope that it would fulfill itself via someone’s belief that it would come to pass. The most likely candidate to do this, I think, is Brain—he is in possession of the Book of Prophecies, so he could easily claim that as a source, and he has expressed a desire to defy the fate set out for them within its pages. And, if we, the Player, truly are the protagonist in Missing Link, we’re the perfect candidate to attempt to fulfill this Prophecy—after all, we never read the Book, and we trust Brain completely, so of course we’d try to see the prophecy to fruition.
The other option is that the prophecy is something created by MoM and/or Luxu. I can’t think of any real motive for this, aside from perhaps finding an exceptional Keyblade wielder of Light to defeat the remaining vessels that hold True Darkness. Additionally, as I said earlier, in the Secret Reports, Xehanort is referred to as their “scapegoat,” which further implies their pulling of the strings.

Quick guide to Time Travel 101 via KH.
YO SUP.
So with this being a popular topic in terms of story relevance and just an overall general note of curiosity. I wanna dive into the many aspects that certain characters used to flow through the river of time in this series. Some go by these particular rules, some are able to break them altogether, while one in particular got deleted for the sheer scale of what he did. (CoughSoraCough.) So I wanna make notes of them here.
I. The Old Man Xehanort Method. (The most rule bound.)
Settled here is the most known method that also holds it’s host of confusion. You can successfully bring your heart back to the past, and essentially hold the means to manipulate your past self. However, it comes a central caveat once the time travel ride is over.
- Naturally you just up and vanish from the point you’ve traveled to.
- Your memories are also snatched as a result.
These caveats are part of the rule of respecting the Immovable Wall, or what I’ll just coin as ‘The Past’ right now. The goal of this time travel isn’t to bring massive alternations to time. Rather, compared to splitting time into multiple branches, it dedicates the task of keeping it in a streamlined fashion while you pluck at threads. So any memories of future knowledge are forbidden when it comes to being retained. The biggest benefit to take from this is to use loopholes to your advantage. What CAN be accomplished for instance is what we see in 3D/KH3. Where Xehanort can bring past versions of himself to the present day to become his henchman. You can also (as Sora shown in Re:Mind) create smaller events as long as they DON’T interfere in what The Past considers important. (Like how they faced and fell the Demon Tide over two (Three when u count Re:Mind) times during that first time. Meanwhile, are able to defeated after the time reset.)
The unknown addition to benefit is also taking whole or fractured hearts he collects into the present time. (Like the successful experiment of using Monster Inc’s world to restore Vanitas’s body.) It comes with the ability of letting Y Xehanort phase in and out to these particular points to explore. (Which I assume is from the No Name-Keyblade. Seeing how it altered his keyblade.) These however, are very lucid and require Replicas to keep them stabilized in the present, they return to their rightful points in the past once they’re destroyed.
So with Young Xehanort at the helm back then with the new abilities burned into his heart, he can complete his orders made by Old Xehanort, but still end up being present for the line of required life that’s cemented in order to become the old man. In the KH mythos from how they’re building it, there’s particular rules/protections granted so people who can Time Travel can’t create those sinister means of just wiping you out of existence while you’re a baby, and in turn, branching all these different lines of existence.
tl;dr: Time manipulation with this method can be used mainly to bring the past to the present for a momentary amount of time (In order to have his 7/13 requirement in terms of strong hearts for the Keyblade War.) Particular alterations in the past can be achieved.
Also in terms of limitation. Xehanort can only travel from the point he was born until his most recent day. Nothing beyond.
II. The Master of Masters method.
Imagine the means of what Xehanort used except on a much, much larger scale. The Master’s method doesn’t play on the idea that you need a body at that particular point. Rather, your heart can freely travel and as long as you meet the requirements of having a being that exists that has clear and concise memories of your. (Luxu in this case), and the Medium, in short, just a fragment of your body or an article or trinket you’re well known for. (Like the No Name Keyblade or Brain’s hat), you can literally reform out of pure energy. Maleficent showed this best during her revival in KH2! (She’s a case of jumping from Future to the Past to the Future again. You’re allowed to keep your memories in your mind this way. Compared jumping from the Past to the Future to the Past again. ‘The Past’ will negate that knowledge unless you just stay in the future.)
In comparison to Xehanort’s method, this has a lot more freedom of being a prime witness to the events at hand. There’s no need to worry about having a body at the time, and there’s an incredible scale of freedom as in they can actively exist and insert themselves in a certain point of time as they see fit from Point A to Point B.  Their memories are able to be perfectly retained (as the MoM showed, and also Brain at the end of Union X when the processes go right), BUT, depending on where they’re active within time, they still have to play by the similar rule. Unless it’s the most present day in time, only small nudge and pushes in terms of events can be made within The Past.
Consider the more advanced version of the Xehanort method in this context. With Luxu being his Waypoint throughout the river of time, instead of a certain point, the Master can hop back and forth with incredible ease within time. From all the way back to that day in Daybreak Time when he sent Luxu off, all the way to KH4. This is easily hundreds of years.
Many, many years where a wise mind can tinker and tune many unknown events to spawn within the present without anyone’s knowledge.
III. Misusing the Power of Waking. (You’re honestly just boned at this point.)
Through the power of this particular ability and collecting Hearts by the wrong means, the power becomes grand enough to genuinely create miracles, that is, at the cost of damaging time itself. Which Sora did shown by this glossary article here.
Tumblr media
Now granted, this may come to be within the future titles, but due to the overall lack of knowledge I can’t really extend any sayings on how this works. Though the result is proof of what this very concept does. You can succeed in cracking and shattering the ‘The Past’ for a interval long enough to where you can create an entirely new future. It comes to show how this very power can be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.
At the same time, it’s why the price of actually performing such an action will make the Great Rules of this multiverse literally delete you out of existence as a form of punishment, stripping you of this same power that allows you freely cross between realities.
Hope this helps u out a lil bit. Feel free to ask any questions on more specifics you may have.

Brain’s reveal may not contradict KH3′s Reports after all
I'll eventually make a video about this, but I always like to write out my thoughts first. Let's look at the Report in question.
Observations, Excerpt 2— Amid the chaos, I bequeathed my Keyblade to one of the Union leaders, just as the Master instructed. ... And now, Keybladeless, I must depart this land to fulfill my final task. This means casting my own body aside and sojourning my heart in vessel after vessel—as many as it takes.
So, we can rule out two possibilities
Luxu possessing Brain, because Luxu stated multiple times he cares about the safety of the Union Leaders, and it contradicts the idea that Luxu no longer has his keyblade.
Luxu looking exactly like Brain, because that also contradicts the idea that he longer has his keyblade.
I believe that is simply Brain himself in the desert.
Brain gave his Keyblade to Ephemer, and therefore had no way to protect himself against Darkness or Heartless. Luxu said it would be a shame if his life ended here (which I think was genuine, not a threat), so Luxu may have given Brain No Name to protect himself. Once again, Luxu implies multiple times that he worried for the Union Leaders' safety.
Brain being the one to hide the box in the desert also explains why Xigbar has no clue where it is in KH3. After Maleficent arrived from time traveling, Xigbar races to find the box before her. But even Luxord lists the ideas that Xigbar playing a prank, forgetting where the box is, or the box going missing on its own are unlikely. Luxord deduces that Xigbar is trying to find the box himself to prevent others from tracing it back to him.
If Luxu opened a Corridor of Darkness so Brain could reach the Keyblade Graveyard (since the worlds are separating and Brain has no means of fast travel), Luxu may have given Brain the black coat to protect himself.
Tumblr media
LEFT OVER QUESTIONS:
"But if that's Brain in the desert in this scene, why is he voiced by Luxu's VA in Back Cover?"
Remember in BbS, Young Xehanort's line “This world is just too small.” was voiced by Riku’s VA in both English and Japanese. So meta-wise, having a pre-hired VA voice one line of a different KH character isn't all that strange.
"But then why did Xigbar suddenly know where the Box is in KH3's epilogue?"
This is more theoretical, but I personally think it's because Brain purposely hid the box in a way where it's only discoverable AFTER either the Light of the Past scene or the Tear in Time occurs.
Because Brain's speech about overwriting the destruction of this world never amounted to anything with data or real Daybreak Town, I now think Brain (or the Virus, you pick) was never talking about Daybreak Town, but rather KH3's climax. All the Guardians fell, and the past page of the Book was fulfilled, but then suddenly the ending was overwritten in the same timeline. We're lead to believe this was due to Sora resurrecting too many people, but that simply doesn't add up-- why would that cause something like that?
If Eraqus mentions how the final page can be overwritten, as well as knowing about the Light of the Past, it's possible Eraqus got this information from Brain himself or passed down via their lineage.
My point being, if Brain himself hid the box and is somehow involved with the Tear in Time, and Xigbar himself recognizes that the Tear happened, it's possible Xigbar knew that the Box would be much easier to find, so went out again after he faked his death.
EDITS
(these edits are mainly for myself to reference when I make this into a video LOL)
June 4:
devereauxrobx points out that this may be why Xigbar needs KH3′s Keyblade War to occur before the Lost Masters can be awakened.
steamwhistler2 makes a really good point that Maleficent herself says the Box may literally not exist until after the Keyblade War occurs.

After much more research and discussion, (and taking the precious time of many of my mutuals.). Here are other possible parallels between Stranger Things.
_________________________________________
Stranger Things/ Kingdom Hearts parallels.
_________________________________________
"The road collapsed when the clock advanced. If only I'd made it in time... But there is no time in this place, only...the clock."
— Aqua, in the Realm Of Darkness, after the road collapsed near the "Castle Of Dreams". To bring the road back she has to use the clock that is on the Castle. While doing so Aqua experiences flashbacks of her past especially moments with her friends.
Tumblr media
In the 003 trailer "Creel House", there's a song playing called "Dream A Little Dream Of Me". The Castle Of Dreams is from the Disney Movie Cinderella that came out in 1950, in the decade which the Creel murders happened. Cinderella is literally about a young girl who suffers from the abuse of her own family linking back to the many subtext and text of the show about family abuse. Cinderalla also lives in the attic of her mother's house just like... the Grandfather Clock in the Creel house. (There's also the whole father killing his children, talk about family "abuse"...) The Mother of Cinderella also has a cat called Lucifer. (Satanic panic and religious symbolism and again f*cking cats are coming back in this show.)
And of course, the romance plot (that most of you know and which you all know what I think IT relates to...).
_________________________________________
Ansem The Wise/DiZ (Darkness in Zero)
Ansem the Wise is the sage-king of Radiant Garden during Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. In order to protect his people from the darkness, he spent much of his time studying the heart with his apprentices, but was eventually exiled to the Realm of Darkness when they were corrupted by that same darkness led by a Xehanort, a young man who lost his memories and is actually a young man named Terra who got possessed by an old man to be his new vessel. This same man wanted to conduct strange and dangerous experiences that Ansem The Wise forbidden him to do so. After being banished to the Realm of Darkness, he himself gained dark powers, renaming himself DiZ (Darkness in Zero) and setting out on a quest to avenge himself throughout Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts II.
It's also implied that when someone is lost in the Realm Of Darkness, he forgets why and how he got there. Only the feelings remain, Ansem The Wise remembered the hurt he felt but not really what happened. (Although this could be taken as a figure of speech.)
Tumblr media
If you know the DiD theory, this is very similar to the theory that the Mind Flayer is actually Will The Wise, who via his experience with the Upside Down became this being set on revenge due to the fact he was hurt. But it is said that he is so old, he does not remember it's true home or where he comes from (which fits with Ansem.). Though unlike him, we don't know why he wants to kill everything outside of Hawkins and why he is so hellbent on not being hurt.

There is also the fact that Xehanort later takes Ansem Identity because Ansem was everything he wasn't. At the same time, the real Ansem became another person altogether. Ansem, Seeker of Darkness and DiZ (Darkness in Zero). Don't know if that could relate to season 3's character arcs or the show in general where people hide themselves behind a mask.

This one is more interesting.
This is Ventus and Vanitas. They are basically part of the same body. When Ventus was training to be a Keyblade Master under Xehanort, Xehanort removed the darkness from Ventus's heart, damaging him severely, which created a being called Vanitas. This being is made of pure darkness and represents only negative emotions and is even the source of beings called Unversed. Creatures made of negative emotions.
It reminds of the mysterious connection Will, El and Billy have AND the connection to the The Mind Flayer. A monster literally called the Shadow Monster that brings the worst memories of your life to be reexperienced again. If that isn't focusing on some negative feelings, I don't know what it is.
Vanitas also has the tendency to use thunder and ice as his magic which you know fits with the Mindflayer.

Heather also dissapears in the Void in 3x03 very similarly to Aqua when she falls in the Realm of Darkness.
And Terra and Billy have that "inner uncontrolable darkness" trope kind of thing but ultimately their will is able to fight back in some way. Also one of the themes of Terra is "Rage Awakened" which you know, really fits Billy.
And as for Will, well he and Ventus are sleepyheads and I speculate their stories to be very similar.
Their also basically a bunch of dead people and zombies. Some are even "replicas" which you know... with all the characters who have a mirror imagery in ST, it kind of fits.

Let's just say, this is very DiD theory-ish. The famous theory of @kaypeace21 and @strangertheory .
And let's just say, without getting too complicated that these characters are all connected. They're the same person while also not really being that same person. 😅

This one is also self explanatory.
These things are Heartless, they attack worlds and it's living beings to drag them into the Realm of Darkness. (Sounds like anybody you know ?).
But the thing that is interesting, the black demon thing is called Chernabog based on the Devil, Satan himself (fits with the religious symbolism and subtext of the show) and Chernobog,
In the Slavic myths, Chernabog (named Chernobog) is a black god of darkness, night, evil and death (and many other edgy stuff) who contrasts with Belobog, the white god of light and the two are in eternal conflict. This could explain Chernabog's fear of light. Chernabog and Belobog are similar to Satan and God, or Ra and Apep.
He can corrupt your soul, ressurect and control the dead (sounds like something I know) and attacks small villages from his volcano by sending evil spirit. He even has... fire. (You know what I mean ?)
Fun fact, the Duffers said they were inspired by storms during the eruptions of South American volcanoes.

Two characters who look very similar and have a mysterious connection that is never really explored.
Ventus, just like El who thought to be Will, was thought to be Roxas by the fandom when he first appeared. He was frozen to death when we first see his face. "He likes it cold..." and Billy used ice so that Heather could be under the MF's control alot faster.

Thoughts — KHIV Trailer: Mysterious Voice
Based what Nomura said about the mysterious voice in the Famitsu article, it’s going to be much harder for us to discern who it is – or is it? Prior to the new article, the only detail we’ve had concerning the identity of the mysterious voice is that it isn’t Blaine. Many have speculated that it was Young Xehanort given his awareness of Quadratum but that’s been debunked for the moment. However, there are two new details about the mysterious voice/character; firstly, it’s character has been present throughout the series, and secondly, this is the first time they’re being voiced. Who do we know that’s been around for most of the series but hasn’t had a voice?
Some people have begun speculating it’s the Player from KHUX since they’ve technically been around via Xehanort (the dumbest plot twist in this series). It can’t be Ephemer because he has voice lines, and his first appearance was in KHX. For the moment, I can only think of one possibility. They’re likely someone or rather ‘something’ much closer than you’d think – the Darkness. Darkness has been around for the entire series, and they’ve never been voiced. As we know from KHUX, they are capable of understanding and speaking in human speech. That’d make the most sense.
The other possibility would be Light for the same reasons as the Darkness. That said, unlike Darkness we haven’t seen any Entities of Light in the series that we know of (and no, the Guardians don’t count). One could argue that the Master of Masters could count given the popular theory that he is light. Even if that was true, it still wouldn’t count in this instance since we’re all familiar with his voice. But who’s to say that the Entities of Darkness only have one voice? It could be multiple voices. The one in the trailer may be one of them. In that case, it boils down to ‘which’ entity of darkness it is.

Let's talk about the KHUX finale as a whole rather than just as the piece we only just got.
So we started off with with Lauriam and Ventus alone in Ventus' room, and Lauriam is conflicted about Ventus because they have no way of knowing whether or not Ventus destroyed Darkness or whether it retreated back within Ventus (I mean we know that this Darkness is Vanitas but they don't), in which case Lauriam seems to contemplate taking out Ventus, only Strelitzia reminds Lauriam that giving into his negative emotions is exactly what Darkness wants - which obviously spooks the hell out of Lauriam and he turns around to find that she's not there. Having had time to think about this, I'd say that what I believe happened to Strelitzia after she was struck down by Darkness was that her Heart took refuge within Lauriam's, much in the same way Kairi's and Ventus's Hearts did with Sora's Heart in KH and KHBBS respectively. You might recall that Sora even saw Kairi at one point while he Heart was still within her Heart.
What does this mean though, well I believe that Strelitzia will return thanks to the Data Luxu pulled of her in Data-Daybreak Town, which is what he sent to the future via the Ark. Think of it as similar to how Roxas and Namine were brought back in KHIII, once Lauriam releases Strelitzia's Heart, it can join with the Data-Strelitzia, which is likely vacant, as the Data versions of the Dandelions were all occupied by their own Hearts presumably when they became Unchained and crossed into Data-Daybreak Town.
Moving on, Elrena is brought into the story to reveal that her Chirithy had seen Luxu and Strelitzia, which leaves hope for the others about Strelitzia, but doesn't do much more than confuse them otherwise and get her to join the party as they make for the Ark. Seriously, Elrena was completely underused in KHUX. I still think it's odd how Lauriam and Elrena act entirely different from Marluxia and Larxene, and I think it is even more odd how Nomura specified tht Lauriam and Marluxia are different characters rather than telling the interviewer who had asked the question what we are meant to believe: that Lauriam is Marluxia's Somebody.
To be clear, I don't think that he's not, simply that 4 years go by between when he, Elrena, Ventus, and Skuld woke up in the future and KHBBS and then nearly another 10 years (presumably) before Marluxia is found by Xigbar and Xaldin and Larxene is found by Xaldin and Lexaeus. We have no idea what happens then, and both had completely lost their memories, making it even more hard to say. However, Lauriam was shown waking in Dwarf Woodlands, while Elrena woke in what I assume to be Enchanted Dominion, both of which were some of the first Worlds to be swallowed by the Darkness when Maleficent began her pursuit of Kingdom Hearts at the end of KHBBS, so maybe that's how they fell to Darkness?
After Luxu sends the True Dandelion forward via the Ark, I noticed that, while Darkness explains its intention, it mentions that it plans to 'accompany the chosen one into the future to lay claim to Worlds not yet created'. This is odd, because later it explains that there are five Darknesses still in Data-Daybreak Town, and since only four of them confront Ephemer, Skuld, and Player, then that all but confirms Lauriam's suspicions. What's more, is that it engages Luxu in battle and then is missing when Brain, Lauriam, Elrena, and Ventus arrive in Daybreak Town to utilize the real Ark.
Where did Darkness go? Not within Ventus, as it would have had no opportunity to do so, and there's already an iteration of Darkness in there. Luxu is the only other candidate. It was revealed in the second part of the finale that the Master raised his apprentices in order to give the seven strongest iterations of Darkness a tangible form so that it could inevitably be struck down. This was the entire reason for the Keyblade War, and why the Foretellers had to be sacrificed. The conversation with Luxu all but confirms that those seven of the original Thirteen Darknesses were already destroyed, as they discuss how, after the Keyblade War, only the six Darkness we've now seen remained and found themselves within Data-Daybreak Town. The Master reveals this to be another part of his scheme, as Daybreak Town and its Data counterpart were constructed to act as a cage for Darkness that would be sprung as soon as the first pod of the Ark it utilized.
This trap is something Darkness knew after watching the Master compose the Book of Prophecies, the Master intentionally excluded Enchanted Dominion from the Worlds realized in the real world, instead trapping Maleficent within the Datascape much in the same way that he had done to Darkness. Darkness then helped Maleficent reach Daybreak Town via the virtual Ark in order to then have her use the real one, thereby triggering the ends of both iterations of Daybreak Town, which would motivate the Dandelions to use the Ark themselves, unknowingly providing Ventus to Darkness after another iteration utilized him to take the place of Strelitzia. While it would travel into the future to lay siege to Worlds not yet in existence, the other Darknesses in the Datascape would spread across the Data-Worlds. However, Darkness didn't concern itself with the parts of the Book of Prophecies which it considered unimportant to itself, which ultimately proved to be its undoing, because it missed out on the true plans of the Master, as Luxu later confirmed.
On the topic of Luxu, let's discuss his meeting with Brain, as well as his appearance in the Keyblade Graveyard. The most important part about these two parts is to know that, even though it appears as though Luxu possessed Brain, he didn't. Brain has just always resembled Luxu for whatever reason. I wonder if this could have something to do with iterations of the same person from two separate Worldlines? Why do I say this, because they made a point of noting the similarities between Skuld and Ava as well, on two separate occasions, and I would guess that with what we've seen in the finale, that it was intentional for this exact reason. Does this mean that all the Foretellers look like the Union leaders? I'd say no, I mean Ventus and Gula appear to bear physical similarities from what we can see (height give-or-take, jaw structure), but for sure Ephemer and Lauriam do not resemble Ira and Aced.
The two seen in the finale are clearly different because Luxu was stated in his Secret Reports of KHIII to have passed on No Name to on of the Union Leaders amid the chaos of the destruction of Data-Daybreak Town. The only one he came into contact with was Brain, so clearly Brain got No Name, thus its a done-deal, both are Brain, right? Wrong - as Brain then awakens generations later in Scala ad Caelum, not by using the Ark but by using Ephemer's memories passed down through the generations all the way to Sigurd, as his Waypoint, while his hat acted as the Medium. I believe that when Luxu claimed that Brain's life had to end, he merely passed on No Name to Brain and taught him how to unlock his Heart - or become Unchained, thereby allowing him to partake in said time travel and see through the destruction of Daybreak Town. I think what we see of "Brain" in the Keyblade Graveyard is like the scene from KHX:BC where Luxu arrives in the Keyblade Graveyard with No Name and the Box, just with his hood down, otherwise it wouldn't make sense for Luxu to have No Name, as he said he didn't have it anymore in the Secret Report.
I wonder if, given Master's Defender belonged to Brain originally and eventually makes its way to Eraqus - Brain's suspected grandson - if that means that Brain recclaims Master's Defender when he gets to Scala ad Caelum? I really felt for Ephemer toward the end because it became evident that when Ephemer and Skuld attempted to escape, Ephemer was caught in the destruction of Daybreak Town and left alone in the past. Although he created Scala ad Caelum from the ruins of Daybreak Town and began a new lineage of Keyblade wielders, it's sad that he died without the friends he had come to know throughout KHUX. I wonder also what Ephemer did with that last copy of the Book of Prophecies that Brain gave him - could it still be hidden somewhere in Scala ad Caelum?
In the end, Player had to fight Ephemer and Skuld in order to convince the 4 iterations of Darkness left in Data-Daybreak Town that he was on their side, as they did not seem to realize that their comrade had left with Ventus. This led to Ephemer sending Player and the Darknesses to Game Central Station, wherein Player trapped them and Data-Daybreak Town came crumbling down, just as the Master intended. This resulted in all the Dandelions falling into a deep Sleep, with their Chirithy's becoming the Dream Eaters we know today in order to protect them - only Player chooses not to Sleep and his Heart becomes a part of Xehanort's when he is born.
What's interesting to me about this is that we see Xehanort's mother, who looks sort of like Skuld, but I theorize is actually Brain's mother, which would thus make Xehanort the brother of Eraqus, but what I want to know is who that cloaked figure could be? Maybe it's Brain, who somehow knew about Player's Heart and took Xehanort away from Scala ad Caelum because Player's attack on Ephemer and Skuld (which I assume Ephemer would leave some note about for Brain, considering that Sigurd makes it sound as though they knew Ephemer was coming). I'm really not sure, but considering that Eraqus' grandfather isn't around anymore, that means he'd have had to have disappeared when Eraqus was young, and if it was because he was off with Xehanort, that could certainly explain it, but who knows.
Anyway I think that's everything I have to say about the finale (I hope it is at least lol) Let me know your thoughts below :) KHUXDR still has to finish later this year, so maybe these questions I have won't go unanswered for long.

KH: What is Repliku/Riku Replica Really?
Follow up post to “What is Namine really?”
Because of all the people that get to be saved and exist on their own by the end of KH3, Repliku isn’t one of them? Why is that?
What if there is a real reason why he actually couldn’t be with everyone?
and why wouldn’t Repliku appeared to have aged the same alongside Riku?
What if he wasn’t kidding when he says to Riku that “They already have you?”
Consider this
Throughout the series, whenever someone talks about the replica program, never do they actually ever say if they were successful at recreating a Heart, even a fake one from Data
This is something that Zexion attempts for Roxas from the data inside twilight town, but all he can gather from there are Roxas’s memories of the fake twilight town, his actual heart is still inside Sora
and this is something that Riku Replica in Chain of Memories claims that Vexen did to make him
but Zexion claims to be working with the data that Vexen had stored from Chain of Memories, where he was unsuccessful in doing so, since Zexion had no idea how to do so for Roxas
and Vexen himself, never actually claims that he was able to create a heart, it’s a feat that no one, not even Ansem the Wise has claimed to fully master
Tumblr media
The purpose of the replicas was always only as physical vessels for an already existing real Heart, for the eventuality of KH3′s final battle where all the various forms of Xehanort from across time would abandon their bodies in their pasts and time travel as hearts to the future, which was enabled by all the body replicas waiting for them to inhabit
and as we see with Xion, seeding a heart from bits of memories given form and experience, was both unexpected entirely and unintended for the replica program and not something that they knew could happen yet with Repliku, since by the time they even realize what happened with Xion in Days, Chain of Memories was over and done with already
The intention with Xion was only ever to have a physical copy of Sora, a puppet with no heart or will that they could command as they pleased that contained all of sora’s powers and memories, but not his heart, having a Real Genuine Heart, again, was never the Point of making the replicas
Namine built all of Riku Replica’s memories from scratch sure, but a real genuine Heart was a canvas for those memories that had to come from somewhere else back during that time, it was something they Needed for the early replica program to work, not something they were able to Make for the replica program
sooo... then how exactly did they make a replica version of Riku’s Heart?
Well, they couldn’t, obviously, so then the real question is, where or when rather, did it come from?
The answer is Repliku’s Heart isn’t as fake as we think, in fact, I’m very sure it’s actually really Riku’s Heart
or at least, a version of Riku’s Heart
Travelled back from the past, when Ansem still had a presence in Riku’s Heart back before the end of KH1
Repliku was actually their first successful experiment not just with replicas, but with the replica’s intended purpose, of transporting a person’s heart from the past, and allowing them to exist alongside the same person’s heart in the present via a replica body
and even better
you know how Repliku looks in KH3? All glowing and without a physical form?
Tumblr media
Doesn’t this look a little familiar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Little blurry, but it’s exactly what Sora did in the Remind DLC
Threw his Heart through time, to a place where it already existed, and he exists in a form that’s basically just his Heart from another time, caught in this sort of glow
Now, Repliku never changed or did anything or broke any sort of causality like Sora did, jumping all through other people’s hearts and trying to change the future, all Repliku did in KH3 was time hop to the future briefly and then go back without changing anything, but the method was the same
He hitched a ride with KH3 Riku when they met in the timeless Dark Realm, to see something important through, and when Riku defeated the Evil Repliku brought to be here as one of the 13 darknesses, Good Repliku and the defeated evil one disintegrated together and faded back to whence they came
So you kind of have to ask, what exactly was even the point of showing that good Repliku still existed within Riku in KH3, if KH3 was never going to revive him to exist alongside the other fallen folks like Roxas Xion Ventus and Namine?
We didn’t need Repliku to find a replica for Namine, Riku and friends were already doing that
Instead, the point was to show that Repliku has always been Riku the whole time, just a version of himself from the past, flung to the future
Confirming that he was never meant to be a separate Riku from Riku, and that all of Repliku’s feelings and memories are genuinely Riku’s from the very beginning
basically, with all that in mind
Rewatch this scene where the Evil Repliku from KH3 meets with Maleficent
https://youtu.be/LbXiZdKUo4s?t=324
and I think this becomes even clearer
Maleficent recognizes Evil Repliku in KH3, saying he is the same as the one she knows from KH1, though she couldn’t say from “when”, and this Repliku acknowledges her back, saying she’ll fall to the darkness “again”
if it was just Repliku recognizing her, it wouldn’t mean much, since we know his memories are fake anyway
But Maleficent returning that recognition? With all that she knows about darkness and hearts? Means that even the first Repliku from Chain of Memories, is a Riku she would recognize
She knows Repliku is just a version of KH1 Riku, but from a different “when”, this to me is the key for this theory
This line doesn’t stick out the first time you watch this scene, because in this scene we don’t know yet that Evil Riku is actually Evil Repliku, the player is led to believe that its just Riku from KH1 time traveled to be here, it’s only in the final confrontation with Repliku that it’s revealed to be Evil Repliku, making this scene with Maleficent stand out A LOT and have a different meaning
So to recap:
The linear timeline of where and when Riku’s heart was throughout the series?
Young Riku in KH1 gets his heart infected with Ansem’s darkness and eventually falls into the dark realm
During his short time in the dark realm, Ansem time travels their heart a short while into the future, into a replica in Castle Oblivion, and Namine does as she’s told and rewrites his memories to suit the Org 13′s purposes as the puppet Repliku, proving both the memory and the time travel replica experiments a success
The original Riku wakes up in Castle Oblivion on his own and meets with the Replica version of his time travelled past Self, Repliku
At some point during this time, (likely the point where Namine had scattered his heart) Repliku gets time travelled by Ansem’s Darkness into the future, in KH3 where he is Evil Repliku, one of the 13 darkness’s
Once Evil Repliku is destroyed in KH3, he goes back to where he came from post-Namine scattering in Chain of memories, and he goes on to face the OG Riku trying to prove his realness.
He fails and falls to the dark realm, where his heart sat waiting in the timeless darkness, and eventually Old Riku from KH3 shows up, and Young Repliku’s heart tags along to the future and does all the things Good Repliku does in KH3
It’s after merging a little bit with the Evil Repliku in KH3 and leaving the replica body behind for Namine, that Good Repliku rejects Riku’s plea to take the replica for himself and exist in the future, since Good Repliku knows that his place is in the past, since he is Riku and he doesn’t need to be here in KH3, since he’s already here as KH3 Riku
and so when Evil Repliku is destroyed and goes back to where he comes from, Good Repliku chooses to go back to the past, all the way back to the very first point that Riku ever time travelled via Ansem’s influence and live on from there
and also when everyone is KH3 questions if it’s Young Dark Riku or Evil Repliku that is this version of young Riku, they’re both correct
and, just like Young Xehanort, before he ever met his future self, standing on the beaches of Destiny Island, knowing somewhere deep in his heart that more lies out there, the memories of his future adventures all throughout time as his other selves remain inaccessible, sleeping in his heart. They unconsciously direct his actions in the future and in the past, and is indeed the first thing that makes his heart feel that his world is just too small, and that there must be something beyond just these Destiny Islands...
Young Riku first builds a raft with his best friends because this world is just too small, and his Heart somehow feels and knows that there is more than just these Destiny Islands..
Fitting dontcha think?
So when it comes to feelings for Namine, it’s the same between Sora and Riku
the memory of Namine exists somewhere within their hearts, and even though it stemmed from how Namine changed their memories, and it was revealed to both that the memories were fake, both individually decided that regardless of the memories being fake, their feelings and choices were real and they choose to continue having affection for Namine
Sora as a close friend, and Riku as someone close to her
all that just to explain why the heck Repliku didn’t get revived in KH3 and why it’s Riku who gets with Namine in the ending instead lol
The answer was: Because it was always the same Riku and the same Heart and the same affectionate feelings all along!
*edit*
one last thing to add to this...
Of all the battles with the 13 darkness’s, each group that is fought always had some sort of connection with eachother
Marluxia, Larxene and Luxord - Luxord was actually supposed to be appear in chain of memories, but ended up being cut and moved to KH2, but otherwise all three still share that theme of the Cards from Castle Oblivion
Terra-Xehanort and Vanitas - They were the bad guys from birth by sleep, pretty obvious connection
Saix and Xion - The major emotional players for Roxas and Axel from 358/2 days. Saix is the one who rejected Xion and Roxas the hardest due to jealousy, was originally friends with Lea as Isa, and Xion obviously is the third in the trio with Roxas and Axel
Xemnas, Ansem and Young Xehanort - All time travelled versions of Xehanort
and then finally we have Riku Replica and..... Xigbar?? What? What could possible connect the dude who suddenly revealed he was actually a time travelled version of another character all along and we never knew until now? And even had multiple time travel adventures? To Riku Replica?
Hmmm What Indeed 👀

Have you watched the KH Ux Finale? Now we have the somewhat squicky issue that either Xehanort holds the heart of the Player-Character from Ux or even worse, is the actual reincarnation of the Player. It has been clarified that there are/were 13 "main" Darknesses, six "lesser" ones and seven "greater" ones which are sealed away inside the five Foretellers, Luxu and the MoM himself. Four "lesser" are tricked by Player and sealed away in the digital realm, one is in Ven and the last is unaccounted
Tumblr media
Okay, so. Obviously no, I hadn't seen that. It's so bad it physically hurts me. So. So. I'm suffering now; give me a second.
So what you're saying is that Nomura likes Xehanort so much that he took the character who physically tortured and abused a young teenager (at best) and changed that storyline into 'saved Ven from the Entity Of Darkness within him.' Instead of it being, you know. Him demanding Ven 'use his darkness' to defeat the summoned heartless until he lost his patience and dragged it out of him via stabbing his heart. Which is what actually happened. So. This is a retcon that says 'that abuse was okay because it wasn't actually abuse!' This... well. Mm. Let's just say this is not a good 'plot twist' and move on.
Because you're also saying that Xehanort is actually a good guy now, thanks to Nomura. Like. He's not even a 'misunderstood bad guy,' which is what Nomura tried to make him out to be at the end of KHIII. No. Now he is the heroic Player Character from KHUX, the one who has saved the world /jazz hands/ and is such a good person. (And somewhere in there he went from being completely silent and saying pretty much nothing [something acknowledged IN CANON] to being someone who waxes soliloquies at the drop of a hat. What growth!) So. So Nomura has just. Erased. The actions Xehanort has taken over the course of a dozen games in order to play the Fable III plot twist, and with all this time and all these games, Nomura has done a worse job of it than FABLE III.
I guess taking over Terra's body, telling Vanitas to take Ven's heart again (explain how this even works with this new storyline?!?!), using and manipulating Riku and taking over his body, turning every single one of Ansem the Wise's students into Nobodies (including Lea, Isa, and Ienzo), trying to take over Sora's body, using Roxas and forcibly taking his memories to create Xion, whom he treated as a tool, and finally taking over a bunch of bodies by inserting pieces of his own heart, were all secretly just really good things! Necessary evils!!! In reality Xehanort is actually the hero all along!! Not Sora! Not Riku! Not anyone!! Xehanort!!!
And there are Entitities Of Darkness in people who should be dead but, obviously, because Nomura's incapable of allowing anyone to remain dead no matter how many thousands of years have passed, they're alive! Guess we have to go on a hunt for them or something! Let's make these random KHUX characters pivotal to modern-day Kingdom Hearts! This is good storytelling; after all, these are definitely the most riveting characters out there. It's not like we've grown to care about certain characters and haven't been given much of a reason to care about these newbies.
And the digital world! Oh, thank goodness! I was worried that wouldn't show up again; that was the best game in the series by far. Placing the high stakes on what happens in the digital world also makes them feel more real and threatening than if it took place in the actual, real world. (It's also good that we're doing the 'locked away because the previous fighter couldn't kill them, so now we the next gen of fighters must do that' trope, which hasn't been done to death. And I'm sure Nomura will dodge the minefield of overused portions of that trope, since he's such a great writer.
I could complain more, but I think you get the gist, lol. This is a travesty. I'd already largely decided to pretend that the events of the past couple of games hadn't even happened, save for the miraculous return of the trios we care about, and this just solidifies my choice. I just. Can't believe Nomura has gone this far down the hole of pretending Xehanort's actions can be erased. I've played these games since I was eighteen (fifteen years ago, people!!). That's fifteen years of knowing Xehanort's name (yes, I waited to play until KHII first came out) and hating him for everything he'd done to people. It's FAR too late to pretend there's any redemption possible for him. (He who still hasn't apologized to anyone but Kairi [and that one's up in the air, since he was just 'the Xehanort in Kairi's mind'], hasn't made reparations, and has only 'helped' the team in the same way Isa 'helped;' the storyline told us he did and expects us to swallow it.)
Basically, I can't believe Nomura thinks telling us Xehanort is actually a good guy all along is going to make us all nod and say, 'yeah, yeah, definitely, I agree.' The final insult is to tell us that the Player Character people have poured their hearts and souls into for four some years is actually Xehanort. (But, I mean, now you can Insertion Sue yourself straight into Xehanort without a problem! Something I'm certain everyone wants to do, not just Nomura!)

Are Roxas & Namine "twins" as some say? Some say Namine was made from Sora's body like Roxas. Others say she wasn't made from his body, and that instead his darkness was the catalyst that allowed her to exist upon releasing Kairi's heart, because Princesses of Heart normally can't form Nobodies due to a lack of darkness. I know the two were created due to the same act, Sora's sacrifice in Hollow Bastion, but isn't Namine ultimately Kairi's Nobody regardless? Sorry for inundated your inbox, btw.
Aw, you’re fine. It’s nice to have some consistent things in here!
Namine’s situation is kind of... ambiguous? KH2′s Ansem Reports actually have Ansem initially come to the conclusion that Namine was the result of Kairi’s heart leaving her body to go into Sora’s at the start of KH1...
Naminé is a Nobody, created when a young girl's heart left her body. Yet she has no corresponding Heartless. This is because the "young girl" in this case was a princess. Kairi, a resident of Radiant Garden over which I had ruled, was one of the Seven Princesses that uphold the realm of light. With no darkness in her heart, Kairi produced no Heartless, and instead of vanishing, her body remained in the realm of light.
In other words, both the Nobody called Naminé and the Heartless—proof of a lost heart—are extremely unstable beings who lack the bodies needed to produce a Nobody. Therefore, they also lack Kairi's memories. One reason for this may be that Kairi's heart did not return to the darkness when separated from her body, but rather migrated to another vessel...deep within Sora's heart. [...]
She is a "non-being" in the truest sense of the word; having not even become a Nobody and with nowhere left to go, she is but the most fleeting of shadows.
-Secret Ansem Report 9
...before expanding on this in the very next report and identifying the incident that caused Namine to come into being as the moment when Sora released both his and Kairi’s hearts from his body near the end of KH1:
Naminé. As I have written before, she is a most unusual being. Born of the same process as a Nobody, but lacking virtually all the elements of a Nobody. [...]
I have arrived at a hypothesis. I believe that Naminé was born as a special type of Nobody when Sora attacked himself with the Keyblade, causing his and Kairi's hearts to leave their bodies simultaneously. Naminé emerged as Kairi's Nobody...but the body and soul necessary to exist as a Nobody belonged to Sora.
When a person's heart is stolen, a Heartless is born with no sense of self, and the body and soul left behind give rise to a Nobody. But what if one willingly releases one's heart from one's body? Sora and Xehanort retained their selfhood even after becoming Heartless.
Then there are Kairi and Naminé. Kairi was exceptional for having had no darkness within her heart. Also exceptional was that her heart, once freed, migrated to a new vessel—Sora. The combination of the two theoretically unlikely exceptions may be behind this anomaly.
-Secret Ansem Report 10
Basically what I get from these two together is that when Kairi’s heart left her body at the start of KH1 and went into Sora’s, the universe said that that should have created a Nobody, but the process lacked some crucial components (i.e., the heart succumbing to darkness). So when Sora did it, the universe created Namine as a sort of IOU for when Kairi’s heart originally left her body
But she still lacks critical components of one. As Ansem states, Namine did not actually have a body, her form being more of a... physical projection much like a Heartless creating a “body” of darkness. Like, Namine is basically a glitch in the universe. She does not have a heart, soul, or body and yet she exists despite it all because the universe registered “Kairi’s heart left her body and this should have produced a Nobody for her” and “Kairi’s heart left a body whose heart was taken by darkness” and created Namine out of nothing because by all rights it should have created something but lacked the necessary parts to
So she’s 100% Kairi’s Nobody, but created using Sora as a medium
Ultimately, whether you consider the two to be twins is up to interpretation. Genetically twins? No, not at all, because Namine doesn’t... have genes, technically, because she doesn’t have a body (I... assume). Spiritually twins? Yeah, I’d say that’s viable considering that they were both produced via the same act by the same two people. Ansem even indicates that Roxas is the way he is because of what Kairi did to Sora’s Heartless:
Apart from Naminé, Nobodies retain their memories of their time as humans, but Sora's Nobody, Roxas, has lost Sora's memories. This is likely because Sora's time as a Heartless was short, having recovered his heart and returned to his human form soon after leaving behind Roxas, his Nobody.
It would seem Roxas is much like Naminé. Naminé is Kairi's Nobody, but came into being via Sora's body and soul.
Likewise, Roxas is Sora's Nobody, but was left behind because Sora's Heartless regained human form using Kairi's heart instead of his own.
-Secret Ansem Report 12
So in theory, had Kairi not revived Sora, then Roxas would have retained his Sora-ness instead of ending up with no identity and Ven’s appearance. So it took both Sora and Kairi to make both of them as their own people as opposed to just remaining themselves but without their hearts
Namine as an entity doesn’t exist without Sora in the equation, Roxas as an independent personality doesn’t exist without Kairi in the equation
They’re as much “twins separated at birth” as, say, Repliku and Xion back when I called them that. Repliku and Xion were a pair of Replicas created together, but programmed with different personalities at different times, derived from different people. Likewise, Roxas and Namine were born at the same time and are wholly the Nobody of one specific person, but only exist due to the combined acts of both of the parties that created them
At least, that’s how I see it. I’m wholly open to any configuration of their relationship because it is so weird and ambiguous, and for the most part I don’t really think of them as biological siblings, or even emotionally siblings, but they are, to an extent, spiritual siblings and I think it would be interesting to see them feeling a strange connection to each other due to the circumstances of their birth

Unconventional Wayfinders - Xehanort x Eraqus
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this one yet. I like the idea, but I’m wary of my execution. Oh well!
~~~~~
               Fingers work their magic, gliding through ebony hair. The pampered would absolutely melt into oblivion if he could; instead, he just soaks in the sunlight streaming in through the window and indulges in the feeling of someone playing with his hair. So relaxed is the young man that he begins to drift away—that is, until the magic stops and a digit taps against his nose.
               “Eraqus, aren’t you supposed to be reading?” Book aside, silver eyes—sparkling from that afternoon light—peer down at the lap in which the slacker rests his head.
               The response is an unashamed grin. “Maybe.” A brow arches at him. “Come on Xehanort. I’m not bothering your studies.”
               “So,” the studious replies sharply. “If you don’t study, when the test comes around, you’ll try to get me to cheat for you again and we’ll both get caught and get detention…again.”
               Chuckling, Eraqus reaches up to swat silver bangs from the other boy’s face. “Maybe next time you should double check before throwing the most obvious cheat sheet right in front of the Master’s face.”
               “Or—” The book snaps shut. “—you could study and do your test without getting me in trouble…again.”
               “I thought you liked risk.”
               “Sure, but I’m not a fool—you should know; you’re king of that field.” Fingers pinch at a cheek.
               The boy in white pushes the fingers from his face, still smiling like the royal fool he is. Then something that’s been dancing through his thoughts for a long time slips past his lips. “Hey, get a piercing with me.”
               Understandable is the look of shock on his partner’s face. “What the hell are you talking about?”
               Granted, it is a very odd request, but there is certainly a motivation behind his suggestion; he can display his affection all he wants in smooches, snuggles, and sneaky spots, but those are things that can fade in the fleeting moments following said acts. That’s not to say Eraqus will ever forget his beloved’s greedy kisses or the embraces that make him feel like he’s more than just another face in a bloodline of world defenders, but those affections, filled with so much adoration, always leave him anxious that his happiness will one day vanish—all he wants is some physical proof that these moments happened. Having thought long and hard about the decision, this is the solution that emerged.
               “Let’s go get our ears pierced,” he repeats, sitting up. “Come on. It’ll be fun!”
               “I’m sure it’ll be painful…”
               “Only for a while—Urd says it’s not that bad. Even Bragi got one.”
               “Okay, first off, Bragi would jump into a hole for a bag of candy. Second, Urd is probably the one who threw the bag down there.”
               An attempt to defend his friends is made, “That only happened once!”
               “But it happened.”
               “Just—come on! Please!”
               There’s an initial resistance, but Xehanort cannot withstand his boyfriend’s puppy-eyes for long—Era knows; Era checked. The “simple request” has to be considered a bit longer than an average request but he does inevitably give. “Fine.”
               “Yes! Let’s go!” Grabbing his hand, the excited boy drags the other out of the library.
               “Now?!”
               Yes, he wants to go now.
               By the time they arrive at the tattoo parlor that’s been scouted out for a few weeks, Eraqus is sure his companion is only seconds away from reconsidering his life choices. Various art pieces adorn the ruby walls and black furniture is set to accommodate guests. There are tables and chairs behind the show-case counter with a variety of bottles and tools looking ready to torment someone at disposal.
               “What can I do for you boys?” the man behind the glass counter.
               “Hi.” A wave is added to the greeting. “We’re here to get our ears pierced.”
               He’s far more relaxed than expected. “Cool. What do you have in mind?”
               And thus they have approached the first obstacle. “Er, actually we haven’t decided yet.”
               So the man goes over the variation of ear piercings, shows some example pictures, and explains how to care for new piercings. When there’s still no decision on the type of piercing, there’s a gesture to case, offering a look at the myriad of jewelry they have.
               The second his eyes lay on the black bands, Eraqus knows which ones he wants to share with his boyfriend—it seemed like fate to him. His finger points into the glass. “These ones.”
               They clink as they fall onto the counter for the two to inspect, but the instigator is already sold. “You sure you want these ones? Cuffs usually go in the cartilage which is a bit more painful than your usual earlobe piercings.”
               Xehanort eyes the shorter boy who grins and declares, “Yep. I want these ones—one for each of us.”
               “Alright. Who’s going in the chair first?”
               Now in the face of imminent pain, Era starts to get cold feet. While he is a key bearer and is no stranger to pain, he’s not exactly a fan of it and prefers to shy away. He’s fully aware his reaction is a little silly, but good ol’ Xe heaves a sigh and announces, “I’ll go first.”
               Stone eyes watch on as the first boy speaks with the piercer about placement of the ear décor as casually as talking about the weather on Scala. True to his persona, he shows no apprehensions.
               “You wanna hold his hand?” the artist offers the onlooker.
               This immediately brings up an objection from the first victim. “Pfft. I don’t need anyone to hold my hand. Let’s just do it.”
               A sheepish grin via Era is given; the artist shrugs and turns back on the boy in the chair. The faintest hint of concern finally flashes in those silver eyes, detectable only by the boy who knows him best. Nevertheless, with a simple blink and only the slightest of twinges, the job gets done. Once he’s free, Xehanort looks to Eraqus—ear just starting to react to the piercing.
               “How does it look?”
               The gleaming metal brings about a strange happiness within the shorter male. In Eraqus’s mind, it’s a mark—a claim—and it makes him absolutely overjoyed. “It looks great…I guess that means it’s my turn?”
               The boys swap out and the boy with black hair feels the nerves coil in his gut again. A marker taps against his ear and the placement is confirmed. As the needle is being prepped, his heart beats louder in his chest. His gaze turns on the other boy.
               “Guess I’m not quite as brave,” he admits, hand upturned in requisition.
               There’s a mock of annoyance but fingers interlock and hold firmly. “It’s not that bad, you wuss.” Nervously, the second victim just smiles.
               There’s a warning and the muscles in his body tense, his fist curling tighter around his partner’s. A sharp bite takes hold in his ear but he knows better than to flinch away. Instead, focus goes to the reciprocated squeeze in his hand. It feels like forever but eventually the pain dies down, blood rushing around the spot which is unlikely to die down soon.
               Elated and relieved, he hops up. “Phew! I’m glad that’s over!”
               “Glad? You’re the one who planned this whole thing,” his boyfriend scolds.
               “That doesn’t mean I go around poking needles through my ears in my spare time.”
               The good-natured artist chuckles. “Alright.” A mirror is propped up for their viewing. “Wha’chu boys think?”
               Once again, Eraqus is very pleased at seeing his shiny, new adornment, but that euphoria is nowhere near the hit he gets from each glance at the matching piece worn by Xehanort. Bleeding through his brain is the thought of how beautiful the mark he’s chosen looks on his dearest.
               “It’s perfect. Thanks.”
               Xe bounces his shoulders. Several more words of gratitude are given before the couple pays and heads home. The boy in white is more chipper than usual on their trek and his companion’s admiration of the light-heartedness is not missed.
               Back at the castle, the pair ambles along the student dorms.
               “So we’re supposed to spray this on our ears twice a day?” questions the boy in black, holding up a mini spray bottle.
               “That’s what he said.”
               A hand riffles through silver hair, only to quickly retract with a grimace; his ear is now notably upset at having been impaled.  “Why did you have to pick a helix piercing?”
               Despite his beloved’s griping, Era eyes the band with a little smile. “I thought it looked cooler. What? You don’t like the cuffs I picked?”
               “Why cuffs?”
               This is where the shorter boy feels a bit sheepish in admitting his cheesy reasoning—but if anyone would understand, it would be Xehanort. “Because they have stars in them.”
               What Eraqus is referring to is the star-shaped holes in the black metal. Years ago, shortly following the arrival of the non-native boy, he told his classmates about a fruit from his home world that is rumored to bind two people’s destinies should they share one—it grows in the shape of a star. Now Eraqus had no way of finding Xehanort’s home world, let alone this magical fruit; so in hopes the symbolism will be enough—even if it’s just to remind these boys to take control of their own destinies—he chose the jewelry based on a fantasy.
               “You’re such a sap.” This is no doubt Xehenort’s attempt to lighten the heavy implications. It’s worth noting the tint of pink bleeding across his nose.
               With a childish huff, Era folds his arms and storms ahead into his room. “Fine. Don’t wear it. See what I care. You just had a needle in your ear for nothing.”
               Just as he’s shirking off his haori, a pair of arms slips around his waist. “I said you were a sap; I didn’t say I wasn’t gonna wear it,” the taller hums, chin falling on a shoulder. “It’s cute that you believe in such fairy tales.”
               Stony eyes roll. “You’re rude.”
               He can’t resist the nuzzle against his neck. “You’re adorable.”
               There’s little resistance to being pulled around, but Eraqus is in for a surprise when the hands against his shoulders push him down onto the bed. He has just enough time to sit up before the other straddles his lap. It feels like a balloon swelling in his chest as his face is captured and drawn close. However, the normally hunter-like gaze is surprisingly soft and warm.
               “Silly, symbolic jewelry or not, no matter where our paths may take us, I’ll always find you in the end.” Even his voice holds that sincere emotion.
               Xehanort is not one to blatantly lay himself out for anyone—even his partner sometimes struggles to reach through the indifference. But the moments where he does let his guard down tend to be most cherished by the shorter boy as he knows they are the most important. No matter what happens, he knows Xe will hold true to his words and maybe that’s all Era needed to keep his peace of mind. It’s still going to fill him with happiness to see his little tag on his boyfriend’s ear though.
               The sweet instant is short lived, transitioning easily back to the wolfish nature more suitable for the boy in black. With a dangerous gleam, he leans closer. All tension melts in submissive boy’s anticipation.
               “On the other hand, if you wanted some sort of proof of your claim, there are certainly other ways you could’ve left a mark,” the instigator whispers against pink lips, putting every strand of black hair on end.
               “Wanna demonstrate?” His mind is already lost to the desire for affection.
               With slow, deliberate draw of his tongue along the bottom lip, Xehanort lowly replies, “Oh you know I’m going to.”
               He pushes his partner down onto the bed and indulges Eraqus in his greed.
Shibuya: The Digital & The Dream
The Shibuya Sora's in, is a Data-copied version of Shibuya. I believe that a real Shibuya did exist and was destroyed or is possibly sleeping. The M.O.M 'copied' the world as Young Xehanort did with Toy Box and Traverse Town before it fell or from wherever it currently is (probably the realm of death). I think that's why there are cars just stuck in the middle of the crossroads, there were people driving them but this world is a copy without those who resided here like in Toy Box.
The most important aspect I wanted to make note of is the architecture, that which is decorated in the Scala language/symbols. These have been present in at least two different worlds, in two different ways (I believe).
In Twilight Town, there are poster boards with posters that have that language on it.
However in Scala ad Caelum, much like Shibuya, the architecture and many signs are plastered with the Scala language.
It's heavily hinted at via Xehanort's glitching and the device that shows how Daybreak Town became Scala ad Caelum that the latter is what became of the Data-Daybreak Town, most likely after 'Darkness' wrecks house.
The M.O.M recorded future versions of the worlds in the Book of Prophecies to be projected for the Dandelions to collect light. However, I think just like Young Xehanort did, for the worlds he didn't place inside the BOP he has the power to make a copy/or copies of those worlds, removing the inhabitants as he so chooses for whatever the reason.
And in the secret ending, Yozora digitized The Final World/Sora's SOA into Shibuya by his will. Yozora probably has the power to wander between dreams and data (his eyes).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Shinjuk Riku's in, may be a Dream-version of Shibuya/Shinjuku. This Shinjuku could be a sleeping world, what with all the DDD Parallels this ending gave off or maybe Riku's dreams are connected to Yozora's which is why the latter can enter his dreams.
a quick mobile thought so i dont forget LMAO
I think YX has something to do with Verum Rex because in ReMind during the axel/kairi vs xemnas/isa/xion conversation they mention that Xion was brought back thanks to Even’s data records of her and “Young Xehanorts many experiments” probably in reference to YX’s speech in Toy Box about figuring out how hearts belong in bodies. But if YX was both present in Toy Box and traverse town, then chances are another experiment of his how to duplicate or split worlds. And its possible Verum Rex was somehow integrated into Toy Box in a similar manner that Shibuya was integrated into Traverse Town via the iconic graffiti wall. Shibuya is a separate world but parts of it somehow got “built” seamlessly into Traverse Town POSSIBLY influenced by Joshua’s dreams which made up traverse town in DDD. But I still cant help but think Verum Rex as a videogame is a similar situation.
not to mention traverse town being split because of the widely assumed “oh its just cause riku is in soras dreams so there’s 2 worlds because its each from their own perspective” doesnt make ANY sense because the TWEWY gang was separated BEFORE sora and riku even ARRIVED, so we know YX had something to do with the 2 traverse towns like Joshua states himself
If Luxord's somebody truly is from Verum Rex and he ends up there after KH3, it'd mean he became a nobody for the second time there since nobodies are recompleted in the place where they lost their hearts. If this truly is the case, how did Xehanort get him or if not Xehanort, how did he cross to the Kingdom Hearts world on his own? What are your thoughts on this?
I don’t actually like talking about Unreality, Quadratum, or similar aspects of Verum Rex as of right now because there is just so little to go off it. We don’t know how they work, so there’s never really a lot for me to say unless people want me to make stuff up out of theory, but I don’t like doing that.
The most I can say is that Apprentice Xehanort seems unsure when he tells Kairi
“However, if you arrive in a world thats neither of light nor darkness, but somewhere on the other side, your task will be far from easy. If that happens, you must abandon your search--we have failed.”
Like he doesn’t quite know the exact specifications on how to reach this other world. So if LATER Xehanort somehow reached this world again to re-contact Luxord for DDD/KH3, I’m assuming it means between BbS and KH3 the modern/up-to-date Xehanort (so maybe Ansem or Xemnas) learned how to reach this other world. That OR Young Xehanort learned while time traveling, thus forgot when he returned to his own time. Young Xehanort, in my opinion right now while we have so little to go on, is my best bet since he’s the one responsible for gathering all the members of the Organization (emphasized in ReMind when Saix Xigbar and Master Xehanort are talking). True in KH3 it seems the current/non-time-travelers reentered on their own, but in DDD it seems all the organization members had to rely on Young Xehanort, which is why they “ran out of time” and eventually all faded away-- even the supposed non time travels like Luxord and the others. Perhaps they used Young Xehanort not as a portal of time, but for space/distance. Maybe during DDD Luxord could not physically reach the Kingdom Hearts world and could only do it later. I do NOT know if this is how it works AT ALL, but you asked me for my thoughts, so there they are haha!!
Still though, other than the “other side” being somehow connected to dreams, I really can’t say much else on how either Xehanort OR Luxord crossed over. They may have crossed over like how Kairi could have (but didn’t) like Apprentice Xehanort mentions in MoM, or they may have crossed over via dreams, like Riku and Yozora, or the Final World like Sora, Yozora, Riku, Nameless Star, etc. OR there’s a whole other method of reaching/exiting that world that we’re completely unaware of.
Alternative — Protagonist Kairi, Interlude II
DISCLAIMER: This is part of a series posts featuring a fictional scenario where Kairi is the protagonist. There are major and minor differences from Kingdom Hearts throughout these posts. This is simply my vision of what the story could be. You may consider this an AU fanfiction.
INTERLUDE II — XEHANORT Skuld taught him about the keyblade and trained him in using it. She even helped him call forth his own keyblade. Understanding the connection between hearts and the keyblade, Xehanort pondered using the keyblade to reach the Great Heart. Noticing the darkness growing within him, Skuld worried he'd succumb to it. One day, he went back to Radiant Garden’s heart chamber and used his keyblade on it to forge a path to the Great Heart. Instead, he opened the World Gate, which caused an earthquake and attracted the Heartless imprisoned beneath Ansem’s castle.
Skuld arrived. She slayed the Heartless and sealed the World Gate. Believing he'd fallen, she turned her keyblade on him. They reluctantly clashed. Then, the Great Heart appeared in the sky. Upon seeing it, Skuld's mind collapsed. Xehanort escaped. After stopping and looking into a mirror, he realized he’d fallen to darkness. Suddenly, his body was struck with excruciating pain, and he passed out. The Great Heart strangely vanished.
Xehanort awakened the next day. Based on what transpired, he concluded that his brief battle with Skuld caused the Great Heart to appear – a clash between light and darkness. He returned home to find Skuld gone without a trace. Believing Ansem was responsible for everything, he stormed his castle. In a fit of rage, he killed his apprentices. When he realized Ansem was innocent, he left in search of a new light but not before threatening to kill him if he talked.
Xehanort spent the next few weeks searching for another wielder of light. During this time, he discovered he had the ability to sense faraway hearts (since darkness is attracted to hearts) and used his link to those hearts to traverse the worlds beyond via his keyblade. Realizing he'd likely become a Heartless soon, he decided to extend his search to find someone capable of containing and wielding darkness.
One day, a couple of Heartless attacked a little girl (Kairi). Upon saving her, he noticed that her heart was pure light and she possessed great power. Since she was still young and didn't know anything, he decided to wait until she realized her power. A short while after that, a swarm of Heartless broke through the World Gate and shattered Radiant Garden. Before the world collapsed, he snatched Kairi and brought her to another world — Destiny Islands. After dropping her off at an orphanage, he left the world. He hoped she'd realize her power by the time he'd return — ten years later.
Dark Ops
I’m planning a fanfic where Aqua actually escapes the Realm of Darkness on her own and is hellbent to kill Xehanort. Some of the dark spells get to her head and it drags Kairi into her dangerous bidding. They young princess, unfortunately, is egotistical and fascinated about proving her power. They begin the journey without anyone’s surveillance or assistance. They are going dark.
I always had an idea that Aqua could have escaped the realm of darkness. This is my take on an alternate universe if that were to happen. This is a mix of KH and a bit of CoD culture. I also wanted to include Kairi in here since Square Enix has misersably screwed up her character development. I will personally ensure that Kairi will be as strong as fans would want her to be, in a gruesome, twisted ways. This will be uploaded via AO3, so stay tuned.
