C. R. Pattabhi Raman was a minister at the Center. He was the son of Sir C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar, who was Dewan of Travancore.
My first meeting with Ramana Maharshi was in the early 1930s when I returned from England after my studies. I accompanied the young Maharaja of Travancore to Tiruvannamalai. The Maharshi was the same serene blissful self with a friendly and kindly look on his face. When the Maharaja asked him what the first step was for atma vichara, he said that the very fact that he had come to Tiruvannamalai was the first step for him.
The next important occasion when I went to Tiruvannamalai was a few days before the Maharshi’s bodily demise. I accompanied my father, Dr. C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar, along with a friend. We were taken to the sage, who had been operated upon for a carcinomatous growth on his left arm. Apart from a few beads of perspiration on his forehead, there was nothing on his face to show that he was ill or suffering from pain. He proved beyond doubt that pain or sorrow did not affect a realized soul. A leading civil surgeon from Vellore expressed great surprise that the sage did not even want anesthesia for the operation and yet was able to stand the pain and the shock. Ramana Maharshi spoke a few words to my father and we took leave.
As we were getting ready for dinner, my father said to me that he did not want food and would have some milk. At that very moment, an attendant ran to us with a message from the Maharshi, “The elderly person will say he will only have milk. Let him eat some fruits also.” It was miraculous because the Maharshi was nearly half a furlong away and could not have heard what my father was saying.
The Maharshi was unique in many respects. Like Dattatreya of the Puranas, he did not have a guru as such. One could see on his facial expressions of joy when recitations from the Vedas and Upanishads were taking place in the Ashram. His path of knowledge was not rigid or exclusive.
Sri Ramana did not seek to establish any new cult but showed the direct way to Self-realisation. He taught as a jivanmukta (liberated soul), exemplifying Tat tvam asi (‘Thou art That’ of the Chhandogya Upanishad). Like Suka of the Bhagavatam, he was characterized by samatva (sameness in joy and sorrow and freedom from duality).
He frequently referred to verses from the Yoga Vashista wherein the Sage Vashista advised the young Sri Rama to fulfill his mission as avatara Purusha, all the while abiding in the Self. The ideal of Self-realisation is not visionary but is the very goal of life. Unswerving abidance in the Self, the one eternal Truth, whatever one may be doing, is well described in the Yoga Vashista: Firmly established in the vision that shines forth/ On the renunciation of all desires, and rooted/ In your own Being as a jivanmukta / Act playfully in the world, Oh Raghava.
To have seen the Maharshi in flesh and blood and have heard his word is our great fortune and most treasured memory.

The story of the world’s 1st poet- Rishi Valmiki
Tumblr media
The finest Indian poets, saints, and sages have been witnessed throughout history. Maharishi Valmiki is one of the identities that did stand out the most. Rishi Valmiki is known as Adi Kavi in Sanskrit literature. This means he was the first poet. He was the first person to write the epic Ramayana, which is one of the most well-known Hindu texts.
What is the story of the poet- Rishi Valmiki? Get an online astrology consultation by the world-renowned Astrologer Mr. Alok Khandelwal.
One of the greatest philosophers ever, Rishi Valmiki was a wonderful sage of wisdom, poetry, kindness, and mercy.
Valmiki’s birth
People who have something to do with Maharishi’s life disagree about something. According to one interpretation of Nagara Khanda from the Skanda Purana, he was born into a Brahmin family and given the name Lohajangha. He had a wife who loved him. To keep his family from going hungry during the twelve years of drought in their hamlet, he began robbing people.
Lohajangha once attempted to rob Saptarishi, a group of seven sages. However, Pulatsya Rishi, a Saptarishi, gives Lohajangha a mantra. Valmiki acquired his name from the ant hill or Valmika that covered his body after years of severe austerity and mantra recitation.
Rishi Valmiki was born in Sumali or Pracheta to a Rishi Bhrigu gotra Brahmin household named Agni Sharma. Ratnakar Daku was his name when he started stealing from people after a while. When he met Narada muni, they talked about his responsibilities. Agni Sharma started doing austerity and reciting a mantra called “Mara,” which means “death,” because he was so interested in what Narada thought and said.
After doing penance for many years, this Mara changed into Rama, but his body is still covered by an anthill. Because of this, he got a new name: Valmiki.
Works of philosophy
Valmiki rishi’s Adi Kavya (First Poem) Ramayana was one of the best things he ever did. The Ramayana is the first poem ever written in Sanskrit. Valmiki’s epic Ramayana is made up of 24000 shlokas and 7 cantos. It tells about everything that happened in Lord Rama’s life, from his birth to his 14 years of living in the forest. Ravana kidnapped Sita, and then there was a war between Rama’s army of monkeys and Ravan’s army. When the war was over, Lord Rama left this world.
Some Indian philosophers also thought that Yoga Vashista was written by Rishi Valmiki. Yoga Vashista is a conceptual story about what the sage Vashista and Lord Rama talked about. There are six books by Yoga Vasistha. Each one talks about different events and parts of life, such as Rama’s disappointment in nature and the suffering of people, Rama’s urge for salvation, other people who also want to be free, spiritual ways to be free, and the importance of people’s willpower and creativity.
His Role in Ramayana
Sage Valmiki was a very important part of the Ramayana, according to Uttara Kanda, which was taken from Sesha Ramayana. Rishi Valmiki let Devi Sita stay in his ashram after she was sent away. At the rishi’s ashram, where Devi Sita gave birth, Lava and Kusha were taught the Ramayana by their guru Valmiki.

Cultural Impacts
Maharishi’s philosophical art affected the arts and cultures of many places in the Indian subcontinent and some sections of the southeast. It inspired writers and poets from different cultures to rewrite Valmiki’s Ramayana in their language. It includes Ramacharitamanas, Krittivasi Ramayan, Molla Ramayanam, Torave Ramayana, and Kambaramayanam in Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, and Bengali, respectively (Awadhi).
On the walls of shrines and stones, different scenes from the Ramayan were carved. The stone in Nagarjunkonda, Andhra Pradesh, which depicts the encounter between Lord Rama and Bharata, would make the ideal illustration. Valmiki’s influence on the Ramayana can be seen in movies, TV shows, music videos, theatres, paintings, books, and temples today. Today, Hindus all over the world watch Ramlila, a dramatic version of the Ramayana, which is performed in India.
Rishi Valmiki has a temple in Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai, that has been there for 1300 years.
Maharishi Valmiki’s lessons
Maharishi taught us to follow Dharma and Karma through Ramayana:
Always tell the truth.
The truth will prevail despite how strong evil may be.
Unity makes people stronger.
Similar to Rama’s family, despite the circumstances separating them, their hearts remained united, which enabled them to overcome obstacles.
Honor your obligations with loyalty.
Follow the right path.
Respect and be kind to other people.
See and treat all animals the same.
Never hang out with or get close to a bad person.
Peace and harmony come from being able to forgive.
Not everything that shines is gold.

5 Top VC Funding Firms Focusing on Women-Led Startups
Tumblr media
Gone are those days when women were confined within the four walls of the kitchen. Today, from sports to business, women are standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the world; dominating every sphere unabashedly and fearlessly.
And as more and more women are realizing the significance of being financially independent, India is experiencing a great surge in the number of female entrepreneurs. However, the number of female entrepreneurs is still low as compared to men as seven out of 100 entrepreneurs in India are women.
Nonetheless, female entrepreneurs are excelling with their ideas and execution techniques. Some are even becoming business motivational speakers to help others who are trying to make a mark in their respective fields. But despite their good ideas, they are facing challenges when it comes to funding. Here is a list of five VC funding firms that are helping women entrepreneurs in India:
1.            Kalaari Capital
Founded by a true leader Vani Kola, Kalaari Capital is a leading VC that strives hard to help founders succeed and flourish in the business world. Vani is referred to as The Mother of Venture Capitalism in India, and there is a reason behind it. Kalaari Capital is an early-stage, technology-focused venture capital firm with $650 Mn in assets. Based out of Bengaluru, it has been empowering visionary entrepreneurs since 2006. Not content with being one of the first homegrown VC firms in India with a steadily growing list of startups in its portfolio, Kalaari launched Kstart, a seed fund initiative, in 2016.
Kstart focuses solely on seed-stage funding and differs from other funds in that it doesn’t set a valuation at the time a startup is raising funds from it. Kalaari has built a reputation for picking the best young minds and mentoring them to build successful enterprises, some prime examples being Myntra, Urban Ladder, Zivame, Power2SME, YourStory, and Bluestone, among others.
2.            LetsVenture
Founded in 2013, LetsVenture provides a common platform for startups and investors alike to connect. LetsVenture works with startups and investors on discovery, syndication, and closure. This involves managing due diligence and paperwork closure. There are 12000+ startups and 2200+ investors on the platform. Founded by Shanti Mohan LetsVenture has enabled more than 100 startups to raise over $40mn. Since its inception in 2013, LetsVenture has facilitated over $100 million in investments. Startups like Testbook, DailyNinja, Wishberry, MyUpchar, and Ketto as part of its portfolio, have 3,700 members.
3.            Saha Fund
Founded by Ankita Vashista, Saha Fund is a Bangalore-based venture capital and private equity firm. Saha Fund is India’s (and Asia’s) first venture capital fund that promotes women's entrepreneurship and is dedicated to making investments in women-led companies across different sectors. Saha is keen on companies that use technology to scale. If you too have a startup and are looking for funding, you can watch this video by Dr. Vivek Bindra- the best motivational speaker in India: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DsfZA5OmjQ
4.            She Capital
According to research conducted by She Capital, when women business owners pitch their ideas to investors for early-stage capital, they receive significantly less - a disparity that averages more than $1 million - than men. Hence, to encourage more women to participate in the Indian startup ecosystem and take on the boys’ club in the Indian unicorn ecosystem, Founder and former CEO of Mydala, Anisha Singh launched an early-stage venture capital fund, She Capital. The company was founded with a belief to help the next generation of phenomenal female-led businesses scale to their maximum potential.
5.            Qualcomm Ventures India
Founded in the year 2000, Qualcomm Ventures is the $1 billion venture capital arm of global tech giant Qualcomm, and the arm is highly optimistic about India’s technology-driven startup ecosystem. The firm believes in diversity and encourages different points of view and aims to help connect entrepreneurs to the resources, relationships, and deep industry expertise they need to succeed in the entrepreneur journey.
