"I was thinking, why don't we go out tomorrow to that restaurant you really like? To celebrate and all."

"I'd really like that." You call back, glancing over at your boyfriend who is still busy washing dishes at the kitchen sink. Though he isn't looking directly at you, you can just make out the excited look in his eyes and the toothy grin gracing his lips. He's been like that since you told him about your promotion at work. Honestly, you didn't expect him to make such a fuss over it. It was a relatively small promotion, just a raise and a slightly higher title. But that sunny expression on his face could make someone think you'd hit CEO status.

"I'll make reservations after I finish up here." His words are barely audible over the running water. You're about to thank him when your phone buzzes to life beside you.

Incoming call from Boo Seungkwan.

Seungkwan? You think, narrowing your eyes at the screen. Why on earth could he be calling you and not Hansol?

"Hello?"

"Y/N!" His excited voice comes through the speaker. "You're not busy right?"

"Not really, no. Why, what's up?"

"I— well we all wanted to call and congratulate you on your promotion!" A chorus of voices flood your phone and you take it you're on speaker with the rest of the members.

"That's very sweet of you all, thank you." It's nice, having so many people in your corner cheering you on. "But how'd you know? I only just found out about it a couple hours ago."

"You're joking right?" It sounds like Chan. "Hansol won't shut up about it in the group chat."

"He talks about me?" You ask no one in particular

"Yeah, like an annoying amount." That's definitely Mingyu.

There's a short altercation on the other side of the call, probably Seungkwan trying to wrestle his phone back from various members. But you don't pay much mind, the warm feeling in your chest taking over all other senses. You let your gaze drift back to Hansol, who is now on his laptop, nodding along to whatever song is currently playing in his head.

"Just, give it here—! Sorry about that," Seungkwan's voice jolts you from a daze. "Anyways, we just wanted to give you our compliments. We'll let you get back to your night."

Good, because tears are already welling up at your lashes and you're not sure how much longer you can hold back the stitch in your throat. "I appreciate it, tell everyone I said thank you."

You hang up before Seungkwan can respond and promptly make your way to the kitchen. Hansol's nose is still buried in his laptop, eyes squinted as his fingers peck at the keys. "Okay," He says upon the realization of your presence. He hits the enter key rather dramatically. "Reservations are made and you're . . ." His words teeter off when he looks up, met with your tear-filled gaze.

He takes a beat. Brows furrowed and head cocked to the side. "–You're crying. Shit, wait— why are you crying?" Hansol panics. He rushes to you, taking your face between his warm hands. Holding you the way one would hold fine China. Carefully, his thumb comes to swipe a stray tear from your cheek.

"You tell your members about me?" You sniffle. Hansol's eyes go wide and his mouth opens and closes like a fish before he conjures up an answer. "Was I not supposed to?"

The pure concerned cluelessness in his voice makes you giggle and he seems to relax when he realizes he's not in trouble. "I just didn't know you bragged about me like that, it's sweet."

"I am so proud of you," Hansol speaks with unashamed sincerity. "Why wouldn't I brag about your accomplishments?"

For whatever reason you just didn't gel well with Jeonghan. Some people aren’t meant to get along and the two of you were strong proof for that theory, all starting from your first meeting.

You'd just bought your very first car and while you had an abundance of enthusiasm you weren't the best at parking. So on your first day driving into the studio you drove round and round the car park looking for somewhere when you saw two spaces. You went back around to get the space when someone sped in and took one of them. You were annoyed but determined not to drive anymore and so you decided to take the space next to them. You were driving into the space when you realised you had the angle wrong so you were about to stop and reverse back to straighten up when the car hooted you. You jumped and stalled, shaken up and rather pissed the driver was so rude. You saw the driver raise their hands yelling at you and now you were flustered and embarrassed. You finally managed to get in the space but were angry with the driver and pretended to be on your phone waiting for them to leave first. When they did you got a good look at them and swore to memorise their face. He looked familiar but you couldn’t work out why.

Later that week the CEO said he wanted all his groups to meet particularly your group being the most successful girl group and Seventeen being their most successful boy group. You were going to be doing a stage together and it should be very fun a collaboration. So you were pretty excited to meet them as you'd managed to stay away from any gossip and didn't really know much about them. All you knew was the basic facts, what their leader was called, they had 2 Korean-American members etc so you went in pretty blind but you froze as your eyes went straight to one member.

It was the guy from the car park! The one who hooted at you and made you panic. He seemed to recognise you too as he leaned in to one of his members while watching you and whispered something to them. You blushed, trying to tell yourself he wasn’t talking about you, you were just being paranoid but considering his first words to you, you were right to be suspicious.

"Got any better parking?" Jeonghan asked about half an hour into training. It was the first time he’d spoken to you and there was no greeting or smile, just a rude question. You glared, annoyed he'd try and embarrass you in the middle of a work thing. If you'd been friends it could’ve been light and fun but this way it just seemed like he was trying to pick on you. In response you just shrugged "have you got any less precious about your car?". He did not like that response. "I'm not precious about my car but I do get worried when someone's about to crash into me". "I wasn't going to crash into you, the car had literally stopped and I was getting into reverse". "Whatever" he shrugged walking away and you glared after him well and truly annoyed. After that it was a sell fulling prophecy, you believed he was a mean person and that's all you saw. You got tunnel vision and only noticed the bad things he did. "See how rough he was with Dino?" you commented to your members one day after practice "honestly thank god Scoups is the leader, imagine if it was left up to that bully". Your members didn't say anything, they were just used to this by now. You and Jeonghan had this unhealthy habit of being drawn to one another in the most chaotic way possible. Classic example when the choreographer started spliting your groups into sub-groups for the performance, you got Scoups and Jeonghan. Your face must've said it all because the group started laughing. They were all very aware the two of you didn’t get on and if they weren’t the comments you and Jeonghan made about each other would’ve soon clued them in. Jeonghan didn’t find your reaction funny though and his eyes were fixed on you as he sauntered over to you. "Look I'm not too please either princess but we can't always get what we want". You hated that nickname. Jeonghan had taken to referring to you as princess or her highness and it annoyed you to no end! How dare he Imply you were high maintenance or entitled. Especially when he wasn’t exactly an easy-going ray of sunshine.

Because of this friction your mini group was taking the longest time to learn the choreography and so the staff made you stay behind to get it right. Scoups stayed at first but then your and Jeonghan’s bickering wore him down and so he left the practice room telling you to figure it out and he’d be back in a few hours. He figured the two of you would either kill each other or find a way to work with each other and right now he’d accept either.

He was kind of right.

You and Jeonghan did tire yourself out after a while of arguing and decided to try and nail the choreo. However you soon recovered and began arguing once more just this time about the dancing. “You were fast” Jeonghan snapped as you finished before him and you rolled your eyes “or you were slow, notice how you’re never the one in the wrong?”. “Ow I admit when i’m wrong see you’re just never right”. "Eugh you are the most annoying person in the world!" you cried and Jeonghan smiled sarcastically "coming from"."What's does that mean?" you asked and Jeonghan shrugged "what it sounds like, you're the difficult one here princess". "Don't call me that!' you snarled and Jeonghan smirked coming closer "what princess? Why? What are you gonna do about it". You glared as Jeonghan stared right at you and felt the tension reach a breaking point.

"You're an asshole!" you spat and grabbed him by the scruff of his jumper. Jeonghan thought you were finally attacking him until you kissed him. He was surprised but kissed you back quickly and yanked you towards him abruptly. You jumped but soon settled against him and deepened the kiss. "So much for hating me" Jeonghan muttered and you rolled your eyes "shut up" and kissed him again.

The kiss was good but not because it was sweet or gentle. It was simply a new way for the two of you to get your emotions out at one another but this way was a lot more enjoyable even if you did hate to admit it. Before you knew it clothing was coming off and Jeonghan quickly locked the door before coming right back to you.

When it was over you both lay panting unable to speak which was a novelty. You recovered first and found your clothes and got dressed in a hurried state only now realising what had happened. Jeonghan however was as smug as ever and watched you with a smug smile. You quickly hid your frown and rolled your eyes "this doesn't change anything" you told him and stormed from the room.

You both knew that was a lie.

It had changed everything and now you’d found a better outlet the two of you couldn’t seem to stop using it. It was the first thing on your mind when you saw Jeonghan and the way he looked at you told you the feeling was mutual.

You soon got into a system of meeting at his place after training and would text one another if you were in the mood, which was often. You hated having this thing with Jeonghan but felt drawn into this arrangement without wanting any part of it. Worse Jeonghan seemed to know just how to play you. Now Jeonghan was aware of the effect he had on you he used it whenever he could and he was damn good at it. He’d keep his hands on your waist during dance practice or whisper things in your ear while you were stood close together. It seemed to be a game, to see who cracked first and he was so good at winning. He'd won every time so far but today you were determined he'd be the one to crack. You’d planned this ahead and today was the day Jeonghan was going to crack. So you walked into the training room pretty confident with how you looked. Jeonghan had previously commented on this top so you wore it and made sure your outfit looked perfect. "Wow looking fancy Y/n" one of your members called and you smiled "thanks, I've got a date later so thought I'd get in the mood now". If Jeonghan wasn't paying before he certainly was now but he was a master at eavesdropping so he just carried on chatting with Wonwoo acting as if he wasn’t listening. “Oww exciting! Who with?” your member asked. You spied a glance over at Jeonghan and seeing he wasn’t listening you tensed a little annoyed but carried on “well I can’t say who it is but he’s a kpop idol and really talented”. Your members were soon gushing over your date, really happy for you and you made sure to talk loudly about it. However Jeonghan still wasn’t really reacting so you took it further.

At your first break you noticed Jeonghan was with Joshua and Vernon so you figured this was the perfect time. "Hey Joshua and Vernon, can you help me with something?" you asked going over to them. They of course nodded and you smiled "the guy I'm meeting later, he's American and I was wondering if you could give me any tips". "Tips for what?" Vernon asked and you shrugged "well I've only ever dated Korean men so is there a difference between Korean and Korean American guys do you think?". Both guys thought before nodding "maybe...I'd say Korean American guys are a little more chatty and forward" Joshua explained. You smiled "that's good, I like it when guys aren't scared to tell a girl how they really feel". "Yeah you won't have a problem with that we're usually pretty opinionated" Joshua laughed. "Good to know" you said under your breath looking at him and Joshua laughed again blushing slightly. "Also are there any lines you can teach me in English? I thought it might be funny if I could flirt in English with him". Vernon laughed "lines? You might want to handle this one Joshua". Joshua smirked "okay there's a few but I have to warn you I don’t have a great success rate with them”. In response you just smiled at him “I find that very hard to believe” making Joshua blush.

Jeonghan watched as you flirted with Joshua under the pretence of practising for your date and got more and more annoyed that you didn't even once look at him. You just kept gawking at Joshua and laughing at everything the boy said. He knew you were doing this to annoy him but he was ashamed to say it was working. He didn’t like seeing you flirt with his members. Worse was how Joshua was clearly loving it and kept flirting back. When the break was finally over he felt like cheering but it didn’t end there.

As you were walking out after the training session had ended you smiled at Joshua "you're a really good English teacher, if this works out with this guy I'll have to keep coming back to you...which honestly might be a pretty big incentive in itself". Joshua blushed again as you flirted with him and shrugged "well that's fine by me, here take my number. Then if you have any questions on your date tonight you can text me when he goes to the bathroom". You smirked taking it "thanks Joshua I definitely will!". Only then did you make eye contact with Jeonghan and you smiled triumphantly at the anger there. "See you Monday!" you called and walked away. Joshua laughed watching you walk away "she's...fun". "Yeah she's super amazing" Jeonghan said rolling his eyes and Joshua nodded "ow yeah I forgot the two of you hate each other". "I don't hate her she just....you know those people who always seem to rub you the wrong way? That's Y/n for me". Joshua shrugged "weird, I think she's nice". Jeonghan rolled his eyes "well you would think that, she was all over you and you were living for it". Joshua narrowed his eyes "I was helping her with her date". "And blushed anytime she flirted with you, not to mention giving her your number! You somehow made it all about you and her". Joshua raised his eyebrow and Jeonghan sighed "I'm sorry...I've just had a shit day and I'm taking it out on you which isn't right. Just ignore me". "No worries" Joshua nodded and they dissolved into silence. You of course didn't have a date, you just hung out with some friends but Jeonghan didn’t know that. You texted Joshua thanking him for the tips and the two of you kept talking. When you walked in on Monday he came over cutting Jeonghan off from whatever he was trying to say and you smirked. You kept flirting with Joshua and when you went into dance positions Jeonghan's eyes were boring into you. "Do I have something on my face?" you asked him. He shook his head "I know what you're doing and game on". You shrugged confidently and acted like you didn’t even hear him. You didn’t take him seriously until later that week all your members went quiet when you walked into the dressing room. "What?" you asked and they laughed. "What?" you asked again and your friend smiled "tell her it’ll be fine!". One of the members turned to you "okay but promise you won’t get mad!". You shrugged "well that depends on what it is...". "Y/n!" they all called and you nodded "okay! What is it?". "I’ve got a date with Jeonghan!" one of your sweetest members called Bomi cried and you paused "what?". She nodded "I know you hate him but I've always found him so hot and he’s been flirting with me and I of course flirted back...then today he asked me out and I said yes". "Now try to answer as her friends and not Jeonghan's mortal enemy" your friend smiled at you. You ignored all the thoughts going on in your head and smiled "that's great! I'm so happy for you".

Inside you were a storm of emotions but you kept telling yourself this was what he wanted, he was playing with you. That’s all. You figured you could just wait this out until Jeonghan got bored or he revealed his true self to Bomi but that didn’t seem too likely after their first date.

"He was the perfect gentleman! You know how everyone says he looks like an angel well he is one. He pulled out my chair for me, opened my door, even walked me to my front door and gave me a kiss on the cheek because he said that’s what gentlemen do" Bomi cried in awe. Your blood was boiling but she went on and on about how special Jeonghan made her feel. "He was so attentive too! He kept complimenting my dress and makeup and hair! Asking if I was warm enough, even in the car what music I wanted on. He was just amazing". "Wow I'd love to meet this Jeonghan one day" you replied sarcastically but you were dead serious. Who the fuck was this guy and which one was the real one? The guy he was around you or the one he was around you kind sweet member...you felt you knew.

Your main tactic with this new development was to simply act like you didn't know. That did work for the first few days but then Jeonghan got wise to it. He soon realised you had to have heard about it and to make sure he actually came to your dorm to drop her off from a date. He made eye contact with you and smiled sweetly as he wrapped an arm around her waist. You bit your tongue so hard you tasted blood.

One of your members suggested Jeonghan stay for a bit. You shot her a glare but she ignored you and Jeonghan accepted. There was no way you were going to spend your downtime with time pretending to be nice so you stood up. “Here take my seat” and stormed upstairs. You thought you’d been clever to avoid him but Jeonghan was sneaky and of course he managed to find his way to you. You heard your door open and figured it was your leader so shook your head “i’m fine just tired”. You heard a chuckled and turned to see Jeonghan leaning against your door “cute room” he said closing the door. You glared “what are you doing here?”. He smiled coming to sit across from you on the bed “just thought I’d pay you a visit and tell you how nice Bomi is”. You nodded “she is” and moved away from him, pretending to be busy sorting your wardrobe. “You know I never thought getting back at you would be this fun but it is” he grinned laying back on your bed. “I’m happy for you” you replied and he smirked “no you’re not, you’re jealous aren’t you?” he asked standing up and following you.

You turned further into your wardrobe and snorted at his comment "for me to be jealous I'd actually have to care about you so obviously not". You’d spoken harshly but Jeonghan just smiled "you sure about that princess?". "I told you to stop calling me that" you cried angrily spinning around. Jeonghan ignored you and just carried on "because from where I'm standing you're green with envy. You want me just admit it". You rolled your eyes "you're delusional". "No you are, whatever guy you took out on that date...do you really think he'll be able to beat me? Do you think Joshua can make you feel the way I did...make you respond the way I do?" he asked smiling. With every word he got closer until he’d trapped you against the wardrobe. "You know he can’t so why are you pretending?" he practically whispered. Jeonghan stroked your cheek and you were leaning into it instinctively before you froze.

"What about Bomi?".

As much as you were liking where this was going there was another person to consider now but Jeonghan didn’t think so. "What about her?" he asked his eyes trained on you. "Well you've been on four dates and you’re considered a thing". "Keeping tabs were we?" he smirked but you didn’t smile. "I don’t want to hurt her" you told him. “She won’t know” Jeonghan tried but you shook your head "no this ends now".

That was the first time you saw the boy flustered. "There’s no need to be hasty. Bomi and I aren’t exclusive, I don’t need to tell her who i’m also seeing and therefore no reason we have to stop" Jeonghan replied "this way everybody gets what they want". He was so good with words and looked so beautiful you almost caved but you couldn’t. Bomi was your friend and you’d never hurt her in this way.

So tearing your eyes away from him you shook your head "no, this is over. It was childish and toxic. We’re done". Jeonghan stared at you shocked and you were surprised at how strong your voice sounded too. “Y/n...” he tried but you shook your head “get out right now or I’ll tell Bomi and everyone everything” you said “I mean it Jeonghan!”. He nodded raising his hands “okay i’m going” and he quickly left the room.

Once he’d gone you collapsed into your chair and couldn’t believe you’d just done that. You knew you’d done the right thing so why did it feel so crap? A few minutes later you heard the front door slam and watched from behind the curtains as Jeonghan got in his car and drove away.

Two nights later was the collaboration performance and it was awkward to say the least. You and Jeonghan were literally not speaking or even looking at each other. You performed the dance with emotionless precision and stepped away from each other as soon as it was done. The performance was over and everyone bowed and waved to the fans. You forgot to smile until Joshua grabbed your arm "well done!" he called and you smiled "thanks!". "After this" he continued "if you wanted to go out sometime...well you've got my number". "You smiled "are you asking me to ask you out on a date?". He shrugged "maybe...most definitely" and with a grin he walked away.
