The Son Imparts Life
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. — 1 John 5:12 | Cambridge Paragraph Bible (CAMB) The Cambridge Paragraph Bible of the Authorized English Version, by Scrivener, Frederick Henry Ambrose, 1813-1891. In Scripture, we shall always find the Lord of all using gentleness most worthy of love; for He does not repay with equal wrath those who blaspheme Him, although He knows that they deserve such bitter punishment. Rather, imitating the most gentle of physicians, He heeds not the insults of his patients who are mad, but patiently applies to them the fitting remedies, curing what gives them pain. Although railed against at times, the good physician truthfully explains what is for the improvement of their health, persuades them to be diligent in what is for their good, and makes known the cause of their sickness. Yes, in this very manner the Lord Jesus Christ both bears with those who blaspheme Him and does good to those who revile Him. He binds up the wounds of them who insult Him, and most clearly reveals to them the cause of their sickness– their unbelief in Him. Christ is fighting against that disease, but never against the patient, never against the sinner, whom He fervently wishes to restore to health of body and mind.
Saint Cyril of Alexandria; Commentary on John 8:15 (paraphrased)

Unbearable
Today’s Gospel sounds harsh, even cruel.
Someone who wants to follow Jesus asks to first bury his father. The way Jesus responds?
Of all the things you and I have ever heard someone say at a funeral, what Jesus says isn’t one of them, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”
What the man was asking went beyond grieving the loss of a parent and the need for closure. For him, burying his father was a sacred duty. It would dishonor both his father and God for him to not give his father a proper burial. And yet, it is God – the Second Person of the Trinity – who is saying this.
Which means what? That God has had it, that God is done with His own stuff? Not at all.
While Jesus says it in a jarring way, the point is not to offend but to get through to him. To break through the numbness, the autopilot that we so easily slip into when we are in the worst parts of grieving a loss.
In order to give him what he needs to get through what’s hurting him the most.
Jesus is saying that he doesn’t have to do this alone. In fact, he shouldn’t even try. That to deal with all that he is dealing with, he needs to do it with God.
And that starts with following God, drawing close to God, making God his first priority.
Not as a way to avoid his duty to his father. Not in an attempt to avoid grieving and somehow magically skip right to closure and healing (which never works).
In fact, it’s just the opposite. Doing it with God will give him the grace to fulfill his duty. Doing it with God will give him the strength to grieve the loss.
It works the same way for you and me. By putting God first, we have what we need to be able to deal with all that life drops on us.
“The difficulties of life do not have to be unbearable. It is the way we look at them - through faith or unbelief - that makes them seem so.” – Brother Lawrence

February 18, 2024 - Exhortation
This is not a year to shrink back, but to allow what He has told you to affect you deeply. Lift up your gaze to see His eyes locked on you and your Christ vision. You must continue to dream with Him and do great things. You don't have to trust in economies to bless you because you have God's eyes on you. And as He did for the Israelites in their new land, He will do for you as you remain confident in Him.
Turn from timid trust to bold confidence in your Father who loves you. Whatever your assignment is -- see your life with the perspective that God has His caring eye on you, and partner with Him by continuing to implement your Christ calling with what He has placed within your hand, knowing that He will send the rain. You are a city set on a hill that draws all to Him.
There are many sources around you attempting to pull you from believing God in this season. Unbelief is a sin (John 16:8-9; Hebrews 3:12). It is the single thing that kept Moses' generation out of their promise; and after all they had endured, they chose to cower backwards in unbelief and tested God by not believing that He would make good on His promises. Don't be deceived into reading the internet to foretell your future when your times are read and written in Heaven. You will bear fruit that remains for God's advancing Kingdom because your roots rest in His unfailing stream.
"So why would I fear the future? Only goodness and tender love pursues me all the days of my life..." (Psalm 23:6 TPT)

What a Disappointment!
Have you ever been disappointed with somebody? What’s a good example of a huge disappointment in Mark 9:14-29, even after 3 years of preaching, ministering to, and teaching the crowds, they all still didn’t get it: When they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them. When the whole crowd saw him, they were immediately overcome with awe, and they…

Unbelief is rooted in rebellion
Unbelief is rooted in rebellion and arrogance, which is essentially is false worship (1 Samuel 15:22-23);
Samuel said,
“Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obedience to the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed [is better] than the fat of rams. “For rebellion is as [serious as] the sin of divination (fortune-telling), And disobedience is as [serious as] false religion and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you as king.”

Thomas was doubting Christ’s resurrection (John 20:25), while Peter sank while walking on top of a body of water (Matthew 14:28-31) and he also denied Christ three times (John 18:15-18; John 18:25-27). We will all struggle with our faith at times. As we are told in Scripture, Christ told a man, “All things are possible to him who believes,” and the man replied, “I do believe; help my unbelief” (Mark 9:23-24). That man knew he had faith, but it wasn’t what it should’ve been.
No one has perfect faith, there’s always room for growth; not even Christ’s apostles had perfect faith. Thankfully, it’s not about us but it’s all about Him. As D.A. Carson said, it’s not about “the intensity, or the clarity, of the faith exercised. But [we are saved] on the ground of the blood of the Lamb.”
I like how John Owen put it, “A little faith is no less faith than a great faith; yea, a little faith will carry a man as safely to heaven, though not so comfortably, nor so fruitfully, as a great faith.”

Guess who has a Swiss cheese for a brain and has two weeks to complete an entire uni course? This one! *aggressively pointing at my own sobbing face* So that's fun. Thankfully it's nice and interesting and involves mostly watching lectures and filling a worksheet on them. There's still hope.
In other news my holiday starts in August and we're going traveling with my SO to a nice, beachy place. I have permission to buy new notebook to take with me. So,
As 550 follower appreciation (seriously!! I ❤️ you all) would you like me to write prompts/publish a prompt list beforehand and fill those/do a small beachy scene for all the ROs?
I'm finishing the update when I get back so the August deadline is still holding up. I might emit one scene and add it later but it's mostly lore.
Again, thank you all who follow this! 🙏

Do You Have Unbelief In Your Heart?
It’s so easy for unbelief to creep into our hearts. And that is why we need to constantly check our hearts and see if we are walking by faith or if we have unbelief in our hearts. Unbelief can come so stealthily. When things are not going the way we expect, or prayers don’t seem to be getting answered and it seems like we are hitting a wall, that is when unbelief can creep in and the negative…

God's Testimony about His Son
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. — 1 John 5:9-10 | New King James Version (NKJV) The Holy Bible; New King James Version®. Those who feel little or none of the work of God in their own hearts are not willing to allow that He works in others. Many deny the influences of God's Spirit, merely because they never felt them. This is to make any man's experience the rule by which the whole Word of God is to be interpreted; and consequently, to leave no more divinity in the Bible than is found in the heart of him who professes to explain it.

If one came back from the dead
While pondering the scripture of the rich man and lazarus there was a request from the rich man to abraham. The rich man wanted abraham to send lazarus to the living to warn his brethren, thinking it would make them believe. Abraham responded that this would not work. We see an example of this when Jesus was sent from heaven and worked many miracles but many still would not believe.
Luke 16:19-31
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Matthew 12:22-24
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

Lent?
We're having lunch and I'm aimlessly scrolling through the Hellsite. I spot a weirdo "Lent guidance" app narrated by Jim Caviezel. I pop by the calendar app, boot up my inner (and defunct) CATECHISM.EXE binary and nod with a pout. Yarp, it's definitely Lent Season for those who care.
I ask Walt if he's ever tried fasting for Lent. He doesn't verbally reply, instead widening his grey eyes and bobbing his Rage Sandwich as if it were an implicit answer. I grin. "Guess not, right? You're more of the sin often and sin joyfully crowd," I joke.
Still chewing, he settles with a finger-gun. I field Sarah with the same question. She frowns.
"Once, maybe? For Catechism class? I think I cut back on something dumb like peanut butter or Nutella or - I don't know. You?"
I peel back the years in the back of my mind. "I tried going without desserts for a month, but that mostly just made me eat more fruits on Friday evenings. I grew up in the eighties and early nineties' respective recessions, so pricey meat alternatives were off the table. That's it, I think. My grandfather made a big show of cutting off booze for a month and then got absolutely plastered right after Lent..."
Privations never really were much of a House Gremlin thing. We mostly just followed supermarket sales and splurged on whatever it was that was on sale and cut back on anything expensive and nonessential. It sort of makes modern-day moral posturing feel empty.
Obviously, that Lent app has to come with some sort of Premium feature you're asked to pay for. I wonder what its dumb name is, considering the subject of the app. Grace Plus? Extra Faith? Get Touched By Jesus in All the Right Places and Cosplay as Saint Therese of Avila Who's Totally Not Having an Orgasm?
