oh. so. this dream and this vision and this exchange after and everything that has been building to here.
All that rage, all that desperation, Imogen's knowledge that Liliana's judgement is flawed and searching for any reason to understand, searching for a way to bring her out of it. Bring her back.
"Show me" and she does and.
Its- beautiful, its wonderful. Its the unmaking of the world and of history and it feels- so good. For a moment Imogen feels something she hasn't for YEARS. A life and a possibility and a future full of peace she hasnt had for ages, hasnt even bothered hoping for. For a moment, Imogen sees it, but more importantly- she feels it- the freedom, the peace, the dream. Stronger than any vision. She sees it. She feels it.
And she wakes up, and she- unknowingly, perfectly, mirrors her own mothers words, looks around, asks- did you see it? Did you all see that? (I wish you all could see what I could see-)
They didn't- of course they didn't. They saw Liliana, too far gone, spouting nonsense, they saw her reach out, they saw the refusal to listen to reason. They did not see the vision. (They couldn't have. Even if they'd seen it- would they have understood? How could they? No beautiful vision would have captured the thing that left the awe in Imogen's lungs- the peace. The freedom. The finality of, finally, finally, being free of this gift that has only been a curse.)
They didn't see the vision. They saw their friend, tapped on the forehead after hopeless pleas. They've been seeing their friend make further and further excuses for someone they know is a danger, someone siding with people they are working so hard against. That has hurt them. They've seen the way she can't quite denounce Liliana. They've hedged around it: If she's not on our side, will you be okay- You know if she's not on our side, we'll have to-
They've been watching. They're seeing plenty. They did not see the vision. They couldn't have.
They saw a fruitless conversation. They saw their friend rebuffed by someone she loves. They saw her wake up with a strange kind of light in her eyes and- say.
What if its not so bad? (The world ending. Half of the world being eaten. Innocent lives lost. Our loved ones cut down for a fever dream and delusions of power and grandeur. Us, cut down, for some stupid plot for a moon and petty revenge against the gods and a desire to end the world.) They've been watching her, make halfhearted arguments, sidle away. Make increasingly desperate excuses. Ask: What if.
(Its so easy to ask, what if. Its so dangerous. Sometimes the if is used to hide away lives and lives of collateral, of blood red loss. Sometimes the if has already been answered and paid for, and the act of asking is its own form of violence, all over again.)
"Well Imogen, I wish my family didn't have to die for her brighter tomorrow."
And the way Imogen collapses, a little- presses her face into her hands and crumples under the weight of the reminder, like voices piling in after weeks of being in blissful quiet in a forest. Like reality breaking in after a beautiful dream. "You're right. I'm sorry. You're right."
"I swear, I wanna see this through, I do."
"She just presented this vision of- it didn't seem so bad."
And the Bells try to help, to be kind. They say: We understand why this must be hard for you. She's someone you love, its hard to deal with them thinking a different way. What did you see?
They are trying so hard, to reason through it, to balance their own hurt with kindness and sound arguments to lead her back. They want so badly, to lead her back. Have her back.
The problem however, is not the soundness of the argument, is not the reason or the logic- but the overwhelming allure of that sensation- of that promise- of the hope- of the ideal. Of a mirage that already drew Liliana in. That is pulling Imogen's gaze, despite. Despite, despite, despite.
Hope is such a tricky thing to kill.

teenage Wriothesley's absolutely single-minded, self destructive quest to kill his parents, no thoughts spared even for a second for what might come for him after
him kneeling in a puddle of his and their blood and feeling faint and wondering whether he'll wake up again, thinking that he's fulfilled his purpose and it doesn't really matter either way
slowly realizing through his hospital stay that he'll have to figure out how to live a life now
arriving at the Fortress and deciding that this place now will have to be who he is

Sirius gets a bunch of various lethal presents from his family post-Prank, and each one is a message of “just do the killing yourself.” Bella sent a cursed set of knives that cause agony to whoever they’re used on, Narcissa sent along a bunch of poisons, Andromeda sent along some kind of enchanted communication method so she can alibi him out as well as more enchanted knives but these always hit the target, Regulus handed him a hand of glory after class one day and Sirius really wants to know why Regulus even had this thing (he stares at his brother for a couple seconds before just shrugging and thanking Regulus, and telling Regulus that he’ll let the Slytherin team win the Quidditch game this weekend as a thank you and Regulus very nearly beats his brother with that Hand of Glory because Slytherin doesn’t need victories just handed to them and they win on their own; Sirius raises an eyebrow and hums under his breath, and Regulus has to leave before he commits fratricide), and even their parents get in on the murder presents, sending on a bunch of Dark books that may not be banned but that’s more likely because nobody remembered they existed than anything else. The Marauders are sitting at the breakfast table, looking at these murder gifts Sirius just received with his mail, and none of them have a clue what to say, there’s no rule book for “your best friend’s bizarre and homicidal family just sent him a bunch of murder methods, right in front of your breakfast.” It’s totally silent at that part of the Gryffindor table, all of them staring at the gifts (aside from Sirius, who’s focusing on Narcissa’s letter that details the different poisons she sent)
sksksks imagining sirius dealing with the disappointment of not just his friends (which like, only really means remus lbr) but also his family.
the only difference (and quite a big one too) is that the former is because he tried to kill someone and the latter is because he didnt do it properly. which is obviously the bigger problem here. the blacks have got their priorities straight.
so, sirius is stuck in the middle juggling to diametrically opposing judgements. no wonder poor guy was so tortured. literally being pulled in two directions.

Karmaaaa since we were talking about self ship, tell me about yours!
lovely sera ty for asking!! ✨
[putting this under a read more bc I like to ramble haha]
I’m gonna break this down into jjk!self and selfship!!
[gotta precursor this with @/killalluchihas' / @/grilledsquids' good vibes/bad juju fic is what started this whole collective brain exercise since the first couple chapters and I've been ruminating over taking bits and pieces of world-building concepts and crafting a sort of canon divergence au? while still holding onto canon's hand very gently. and all of this is open to changing ofc]
✨
jjk!self:
basics: vivi, caucasian, mid 20s, they/she pronouns
country/faction: american sorcerer, pesters her personal auxiliary manager to take on missions/contracts internationally.
I headcanon that a certain majority of american sorcerers (depending on region) hand out binding vows like candy (which is mostly seen as an archaic practice linked within traditional roots / ties down their jujutsu sorcerers like cattle for slaughter depending on vow rules / also ties into how far they've gone into education for jujutsu society / various accolades that build up over their career get them fairer rates for vow rules).
background:
- height is 5’6”ft / 167 cm.
- true neutral <3
- latin designation: 6/6 or VI/VI (read as 6, 6)
- they live in no-man's-land aka florida, which has a separate function as a peninsula for america's barrier upkeep and linked ley lines.
- innate technique is called chimera (shapeshifting the physical form to whatever the mind can conjure; form changes slightly depending on which nickname is being used at the time; has a partial transformation running at almost all times, cannot transform into anything from blocked memories or anything that breaks binding vow rules).
- picked up RCT healing at a young age (due to the inherent healing properties of IT), was her ‘calling’ card. however has never gone through schooling to become a doctor at any point in time; therefore ‘healing’ is split between the physical mind/body and the cursed spirit/energy, and is entirely learned by firsthand and battlefield experience.
- knowledgeable about international jujutsu society cultures and practices relating to healing, therapy, and contingency planning.
- currently an independent front-line illusory scout and battle medic.
- has her own personal auxiliary manager on call 24/7. they report to them for correspondence and mission updates/statuses back home, the only way to not be under higher-ups jujutsu society’s thumb entirely.
- race-tracked through jujutsu schooling to get it out of the way. doesn’t agree with the black/white thinking that most under jujutsu society live by. is considered an ‘outcast alumni’ because of this. angers their own higher-ups because they prefer to work with auxiliary managers vs sorcerers on rotation.
- pen pals with yuki tsukumo <3
binding vow(s): so far vivi has 3-4 binding vows, as follows:
#1. binding vow of never using her true name (purposefully forgot it and any relation to the name and family line, extending to forgetting family members, basically jujutsu society's version of a reverse witness protection program linked back to user). all names given are nicknames for different people. vivi is the most common one. also uses their call sign / latin designation: 6/6 or VI/VI, usually just for bureaucracy purposes. in return, coupled with loss of memories of [redacted], gains binding vow #3.
#2. binding vow of picking up languages easily when carrying a rune necklace (cursed tool) that stores said languages overtime. has to wear the necklace for at least 12 hours per day for it to be viable. suffers from dyscalculia in return.
#3. binding vow of the usage of ‘blood circle’ cursed technique (was gifted by a dearly departed friend. exchange is having memories of them erased from the mind entirely).
- user-based AOE (that cannot be turned off completely; rule 1).
- anything outside of the circle has a 50/50 rate of getting hit.
- anything inside the circle (besides the user; rule 2) has a 100/0 rate of getting hit.
- certain variables nullify the terms (user has to consciously be aware for the nullification to work, rule 3. ie. gojo’s infinity still working within the inner circle’s space).
- personal auxiliary manager has a bound machete to be used as a special grade cursed tool, which is the main weapon to be used. however, can use other items as long as previous rules are withheld.
#4. [redacted]
✨
selfship:
honestly for selfship reasons I think they gojo and jjk!vivi get on each other's radar by yuki's interference (let her have a bigger roll in this, gege did her dirty).
after a few missions together with yuki in america spread out over a year, and with vivi's insistence that they want to go abroad for missions, yuki's like "y'know one of the big hot shots in japan-" "the cult guy?" "HAHA. no. uh, not him." and then from there it's vivi and their manager getting on a red-eye flight to scope out the japan's jujutsu scene and get into contact with their jujutsu schools of overlooking any missions as an international support-based unit. and then it's working with different teams and then boom battle healer AND an illusory scout for top squads? say less.
naturally gojo gets curious of how many missions have been completed lately with little injury and no deaths and goes to investigate. from there it's a cat-and-mouse game of vivi dodging gojo, their manager updating them on various factors back home, and trying to learn through the grapevine whether yuki needs to join her to beat in this damn cult leader whose minions keep popping up at the oddest times.
✨
that's all for now!! ty for reading if you've gotten this far <3
