#Tony stark x pepper potts
Note
Can you do a Natasha x fem Reader based off wildest dreams by Taylor Swift? The idea I had was something like R and Nat having feelings for each other and then end up kissing or something a one of Tony’s (Tony is R’s dad) parties. They end up have a secret relationship because R is scared to come out to the team and especially her dad. But they end getting caught by Thor who accidentally tells Tony and the team at a dinner or something. But there’s a happy ending
Tumblr media
Note: I do apologize but I kind of changed the ending on this but I do hope you enjoy it.
Warning: secret relationship, reader is closeted for the beginning, kissing, angst with a happy ending, drinking, self-doubt, miscommunication
Relationships: Natasha x Stark!Reader, Tony x Pepper x Reader (platonic)
If there was one thing about your father, he could throw a party, and most of the time, you had no idea why a party was happening. You knew the team returned from a mission. They saved the day, were the heroes, and now they were drinking and partying. All expect Natasha Romanoff. The Black Widow was nursing a Long Island iced tea outside the party. She was wearing a black mesh jumpsuit. The top was sequined with a deep v-neckline and long sleeves. It was a showstopper. Every head seemed to turn towards her but ignored every advantage, man or woman.
You sighed, stood up from your spot at the bar, and pushed your way through the party to the outdoor balcony. You felt her eyes on you as the door closed behind you, and the sounds of the party became muffled. She would come; you just had to wait. So you walked to the patio set in the corner and sat down.
The cool summer air caused goosebumps to form on your skin. You enjoyed the cooler weather, and the sun blasted the city during the day. It recorded high temperatures this year. “You are going to get sick wearing just that,” you knew she was smirking without looking. You were more focused on the city skyline.
“Come keep me warm then,” this time, you looked at the Russian as she walked over to you. She sat down next to you, her thigh barely touching yours, but you felt the warmth she gave off. This was the nature of your relationship with Natasha. Constantly flirting, teasing touches, and longing looks at one another. That was it. It was as if you were both too scared to take that final step. “Are you not enjoying the party?” You turned to face her. Your arm bent on the back of the couch, and you rested your head in your hand. “The talk of the town is that you’re a hero.” You were caught off guard by the bitter laugh that escaped from her, and she sipped on her drink. You frowned.
“I’m not a hero.”
“I think you are,” she said, placing her hand on your thigh. You were wearing a skirt, so you enjoyed the feeling of her hand on your skin.
“You look good,” she said, changing the direction of the conversation. Did you wear this for me?” You rolled your eyes but placed your free hand on top of hers.
“No,” you deadpanned. “I don’t want to inflate your ego, Romanoff.” She smiled and moved closer to you. You thought she was going to kiss you. Instead, she rested her head in space between your neck and shoulder. “Nat,” your voice shook. “What are you doing?” She hummed, and the vibration caused a shiver to travel down your spine.
“I was thinking about kissing you,” she pulled away, and you felt the warmth of her breath on your lips. “What do you say to that, pretty girl?”
“I’d say, what are you waiting for?” Her lips were softer than you expected. Her hand moved to your cheek, keeping you close as the kiss depended on it. She ended it. Her lips were red, and her cheeks were rosy.
“Let’s get out of here,” she whispered. “Drive out of the city, away from the crowds.” You have never moved so fast in your life.
Now, your relationship with the Black Widow has changed. The longing looks were still there, but the flirtatious behavior was replaced with stolen kisses when the team wasn’t looking. Too often, Natasha pushed you up against the tower’s walls and kissed you as her life depended on it, always ending before the team caught you. No one knew, especially your father. For six months, Natasha and you kept your relationship a secret. Even when you knew Natasha wanted to show you off at every party, cuddle with you during moving nights, or claim you as hers. It was you. You weren’t out yet to Tony, and the man was trying to set you up with every eligible bachelor in the city. You were so scared he would be disappointed in you. So you hid, and you pretended it wasn’t kissing you.
*
You woke up to an empty bed, and the spot Natasha had slept in the previous night was cold. There was the lingering scent of her perfume on her pillow. You had an apartment a little away from the tower. Tony told you often that you could live in the tower, but you liked the sense of privacy. It was also the perfect place to be with Natasha, away from the team. You could be all over her, which you were last night, and a fight broke out.
You were needy and missed your girlfriend, which caused you to be attached to your girlfriend like a koala. She laughed it off at first, poking fun because she was usually the one that constantly wanted to be close to you. You grumbled something about being unable to hug her all day, which was true. You were both so busy the only time you could touch her was at night or early morning before your busy schedule whisked you away from one another. As the night carried on, you noticed a shift in her mood. With Natasha, it was up in the air on how to deal with it. Sometimes, she was honest and told you the truth. Other times, she bottled everything up and shut down.
You decided on the direct approach and asked what was bothering her. She was quiet for a moment and focused on the Bond movie that was playing. It was her night to pick, so you weren’t surprised when you returned from the bathroom to see it queued up on the TV. ‘Are you ashamed to be with me?’ she asked.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the first time she’s asked you this question. As soon the question was asked, you knew the direction was headed. Over the past six months, it was the only thing you fought about. Hurtful words were said on both sides. She was tired of being your secret. Even though you fought about it before this time, it felt final. She was almost fed up waiting for you.
You sat in your bed and stared at the clothes she had left in your room. Most of them were folded neatly in the space you made for her in the dresser or hung up in the closet next to yours. These clothes were from two nights ago when you ripped them off your girlfriend. You slumped back in the bed, pulled Natasha’s pillow over your face, and inhaled your scent. You needed to get out of bed, but the weight of the fight and waking up to Natasha being gone was soul-crushing. Sighing, you force yourself out of bed to take a quick shower.
You were part of the lead team of scientists at Stark Industries. A position you had to work your ass to get the position and prove to everyone you were more than qualified. You heard the whispers and saw the dirty looks, that everyone believed you got the job because Tony Stark is your father.
Braiding your hair, you entered your kitchen and found a note on the counter. You recognized the handwriting of your girlfriend. ‘Your breakfast smoothie is already blended, and I peeled some hard-boiled eggs. Maybe we can do lunch if you aren’t busy. Forever and Always.’
It was a saying the two of you said. Instead of ‘I love you’, it was ‘Forever and Always.’ Natasha found it easier to say that than the L-word. You kissed the note and placed it in your pocket. Still, your heart felt heavy.
*
There was no time to see Natasha between meetings, running experiments, and writing reports. You were exhausted and missed your girlfriend. It wasn’t until 3:30 when you saw her. She was in the kitchen, cutting her sandwich into triangles. You always found it funny, but she claimed it tasted better. Your eyes locked onto hers pointed to the side hallway and walked over there. With your back against the wall, you waited. You heard her footsteps as she stood in front of you. “Hi,” she smiled.
“Hi,” you responded and kissed her cheek. But you refused to move away, basking in the warmth she always gave off. You put her arms around her neck and hugged her. Her hands found their natural place on your waist. “I’m sorry,” you whispered. “I’m so sorry. I’m just so scared.” You felt her nod and gently pulled back so she could face you. Your arms remained tightly around her neck.
“I know,” she said. “I’m sorry, too. Forever and always, I promise.”
“Forever and always,” you whispered against her lips. She kissed you softly. In hindsight, getting lost in how Natasha kissed you was a bad idea. You bite her bottom lip, and the gasp she releases lets you deepen the kiss. Her grip on you tightened, and she pushed you back against the wall. You moaned, and it only seemed to spur her on. Kissing Natasha was everything. Every time she kissed you, it took your breath away. Gently morning kisses or rough, passionate kisses against your kitchen counter. You could spend your entire day in her arms and her lips on yours. “Ah, Lady Stark, oh-” you jumped at the sound of the God of Thunder’s voice. His eyes flickered to you and Natasha, whose arms were still around you. “How long has this been going on?”
“6 months,” Natasha answered. You’ve lost your ability to speak. The god smiled.
“Very well. I will find you later,” he winked at you and returned the way he came. Thor knows you thought. Someone on the team caught you. It was only a matter of time before it got back to Tony or Pepper. The Avengers were superheroes, super soldiers, and trained spies, but they were horrible secret-keepers.
“Sweetheart,” you snapped out of your thoughts by Natasha’s voice. “Are you okay?” You nodded, unsure if you were.
“I have to tell Tony and Pepper before it gets back to them through someone else.”
“Do you want me to?”
“No,” you cut her off before she could finish her question. You desperately wanted her to be there but needed to do it alone. You were the reason your relationship was hidden for so long. “Sorry,” you ran your hands over your braid. “I have to do it alone,” you placed her hand over her heart. The steady beat calmed you down. She put her hand over yours and kissed you softly. The kiss was so gentle it felt like a goodbye. You kept your forehead against hers and closed your eyes. There was so much you wanted to say.
What would your last request be? Would you tell her to remember you? She took you to the beach for a date. You stood in a nice dress and stared at the sunset, red lips and rosy cheeks. ‘Remember me there,’ you thought. ‘Say you’ll see me again even if it’s in your wildest dreams.’
“Forever and always,” you said again.
“Forever and always.”
*
You promised Natasha that you would find her as soon as you were done talking with Tony. Luckily, you had some paperwork to give him, so the visit had a more tangible reason to see him. You opened the door to his office as a dart was thrown, and it hit the door frame. “Oops, sorry, kid,” you rolled your eyes and pulled the dart out of the wood.
“For you,” you dropped the pile of folders onto his desk. “We just need you to verify our numbers are correct, and then we can move on to the next phase.” He groaned dramatically and flopped down into his chair.
“You know I promoted Pepper to CEO, so I didn’t have to deal with paperwork.” Your mother was a saint. You chuckled and aimed at the dart board. You threw it and hit the bullseye.
“It’s your project,” you said, walking over to the board and pulling out the darts. We don’t want another Ultron,” you saw him roll his eyes.
“You make one robot that goes rampant, and it’s all everyone talks about,” you laughed and threw another round of darts. “Do you need these back now?” He pointed to the files.
“No,” you sat in the chair and crossed your legs. “Can I not spend time with my sperm donor?” You ducked at the stress ball he threw at you. He hated it when you called him that, but you loved getting a rise out of him. “Actually,” you folded your hands. “Can we talk about something?” He sat up in the chair. It was rare for you to see the man so seriously.
“Are you dying? Pregnant? Did you kill someone?”
“No!” You laughed and scratched the back of your head. “I uh shit,” you weren’t sure why you were so nervous. You knew the man was an ally. Stark Industries was at every event during Pride.
“Angel,” he smiled. “You can tell me anything, and I won’t be upset.” Angel was the name he called you since you were a baby. You were born very premature and got sick so easily that the doctors weren’t sure if you were going to make it. But you recovered.
“I’m gay,” you whispered. “I’ve known for a while,” you said before he could say anything. “I’ve been so scared to tell you.” He stared at you, blinking a few times, but remained silent. “Right, sorry for wasting your time. I’ll go.” You stood up quickly, knocking over the chair. You left it on the ground and stumbled out of the office. You needed to get out. You needed to go.
*
Natasha was getting worried. She thought it was taking a lot longer than she thought it would. She asked the AI where Tony was, and the Black Widow walked into a shit show when she entered his lab. Tony was frantically moving holograms around, but they flashed red, and he would try again. Pepper was no better. Her phone was pushed against her ear, and she was pacing. Back and forth. Back and forth. “Are we being attacked?” She asked, making her presence known. Tony glanced at her before focusing back on whatever he was doing.
“I don’t have time for whatever stupid prank Yelena or Peter pulled. Whatever they broke, just order another one,” he began to work again. I have to find her.” He said it mostly to himself. It was a mumbled and throwaway comment, but Natasha heard it. ‘I need to find her,’ Tony said. Natasha grabbed Tony by the shoulder without thinking and threw him into the chair. She steadied him so he wouldn’t fall over.
“What did you say to her?” She asked, crossed her arms, and took a small step back.
“How do you-” he squinted his eyes at her. “Look, I didn’t say anything to her.” He threw his hands to the side. It clicked in Natasha’s head. She knew you better than you knew yourself sometimes. You took his silence as rejection. “Now move so I can find our daughter.” But Natasha stayed.
“Where have you looked?”
“FRIDAY can’t find her,” Pepper ended her call and walked over. “I’ve called some of her favorite sports, but no one has seen her.”
“She’s either turned off her phone or blocked me from finding her.” Natasha always believed you were more intelligent than him, but she knew where you would run off.
“I know where she would go,” Natasha turned on her heels to leave.
“Wait,” Tony called out. His frantic voice caused the Black Widow to stop. “Why do you know so much about her?” Right. If you took off, you wouldn’t have told him. Slowly, Natasha faced him.
“I’ve been dating her for six months,” she said. “So I will find her and make sure she’s safe.”
*
You knew your time was up when you heard the quiet chime of the front door. You waited until strong arms circled your waist and pulled you flush to her chest. “Found you, my love,” you smiled and chuckled. Of course, she would be the one to find you. She was the only one who knew about this place. “Tell me about this painting.”
You told her a story that captured the emotion of the painting in front of you. You stood in a small art gallery way past closing hours, but the owner gave you the key. You were an investor here, meeting the owner in Central Park while they were painting. The art gallery was small, and it showcased local and small artists. It was peaceful, and the place gave your mind a break. You kept the gallery a secret, protecting your space from the crazy personalities of the Avengers.
“Is he mad?” You finally asked. Natasha shook her head and kissed your shoulder.
“No, he’s worried he couldn’t find you,” she chuckled softly. “I may have told him we are dating.”
“Oh,” you whispered. You felt oddly okay with him knowing, even if he wasn’t going to accept you as you were. “Where is he?”
“Well, I told him to stay at the tower,” Natasha sighed. “But he’s stubborn, and I caught him and Pepper following me.” You laughed, not surprised that Tony Stark couldn’t follow a car without getting caught. You spun around to face your girlfriend, arms around her neck and hugged her tight.
“Forever and always,” you whispered.
“I love you too.” The three-word statement shocked you and made your stomach flip. Your heart filled with butterflies. You were happy and terrified but mostly happy.
You were startled when you walked out of the gallery, and your dad bulldozed into you. His arms wrapped around you tightly. “I love you,” he said. “I love you and support you even if you have questionable taste in women.” You let out a watery laugh and wiped away your tears.
“Thanks, Stark,” Natasha rolled her eyes with a small smile on her face.
“I will support you. I will always want you to be happy,” Tony continued.
“We love you no matter who you love,” Pepper said, getting out of the car and joining you. “No matter what.” You collapsed into your parents’ arms and cried against them. A weight was lifted off your chest, and you felt free.
*
The next Stark Party, you were sitting on the couch. This time, Natasha’s arm wrapped tightly around your waist and your hand on her thigh. It seemed second nature that the two of you were attached at the hip. No one batted an eye. When looking back at it, you seemed a little silly. But now you were free to live your life to the fullest.

You had been dating Tony for the past three years, you met when he bumped into you in the restaurant you worked at. The air was knocked out of the both of you, you not only because you hadn’t expected to be nearly knocked down on your ass or the feeling of a strong arm wrapping themselves around your waist just before you hit the ground. Him because he wasn’t expecting to knock into the most beautiful woman he’d ever laid eyes on.
From that day on Tony came into the restaurant just to see you, spending money on food he didn’t eat sometimes he would just sit at the bar and talk to you if you were manning it.
Six months after your initial meeting he asked you out even though there was an age difference between the pair of you, you said yes.
Everyday since you two were dating was different, he spoiled you to no end from expensive gifts to lavish trips to beautiful places. The love you two shared was something you never experienced before, it was pure. It was genuine.
You had never been happier.
Tumblr media
For the past five months Tony was becoming distant from you, he was always working on projects that he never let you in on which you understood, you didn’t need to know the ins and outs of his business. Whenever you were lucky enough to spend time with him he was on his phone texting. When he came home from work he would go straight into the bathroom and you’d be lying in bed hearing the shower running.
For five months you tried and tried to get him to slow his work schedule down worried for what it was going to do with his health but all he replied with was yeah I will, but it never happened.
Today was your four year anniversary and since he hadn’t said anything about what you two would be doing you had decided that you’d surprise him at work with a home cooked meal since you knew he wouldn’t leave to go to a restaurant as work was too busy. Hopefully he could spare thirty minutes of his time to spend with you. It was your anniversary after all.
Getting out of the car you walked into the tower, greeting the receptionist with a smile receiving one in return you go into the elevator. The higher the box went up the worse your nerves got.
It’s just Tony, you thought to yourself.
Once the door opened you looked around to see any of the hero’s you had become friends with in the now four years you had been with Tony but you couldn’t find anyone so you headed straight to Tony’s office. Knocking on the door twice you opened the door.
And that’s where everything that had been happening in the past five months where Tony had been acting strange and distant had all made sense.
The man you was in love with, the man you stood by when everyone slated him, the man that defended you publicly when you was being called a gold digger, the man who has now officially broke your heart.
That man was sitting on the couch in his office with a blonde woman sat on his lap. Lips locked together. Her shirt on the floor. His hands roaming her torso.
“This looks bad...”
That’s all what the man who you have loved for four years, the man who you have just caught cheating on you, said when he heard you drop the containers off food on the floor.
“What is it babe? Oh it’s you” the blonde said when he pulled away from her, she saw where he was looking so she turned to face you.
Your heart dropped.
It was Pepper.
With your eyes fixed on his you stumbled backwards knocking into the door frame on your way out. Turning around you walked as fast as your legs could carry you back to the elevator, with every step you took you could hear Tony behind you.
“Y/n. Y/n, baby slow down. Please just wait” thanks to the wait of the elevator he managed to catch up to you.
“Baby it-it’s not what-“
“How long?”
His heart clenched painfully at the way your voice sounded so small, seeing the way you flinched at him touching you crushed him. Tony knew that he only had himself to blame. He also knew he was going to have to tell you the truth, knowing for a fact that you were going to be leaving him forever when he told you broke his heart.
“Y/n-“
“How long”
“S-six mo-months” Tony’s stomach sunk when he saw your hand go flying to cover your mouth, hearing a muffled sob coming from you.
“W-why?”
“Y/n-“
“Why. Why Tony?”
“I-I-I…I don’t know”
He doesn’t know. He doesn’t know why he’s been cheating on you for the past six months. He doesn’t know why he’s cheated on you and thrown your three years relationship down the drain.
He doesn’t even have an answer to give you for breaking your heart into millions of pieces.
“Wasn’t-“ No. No you wasn’t going to ask that. No way was you going to ask the cheater ‘wasn’t I good enough’ or ‘what did I do wrong’. He was the one that cheated, not you. No way was you going to ask all the questions that you wanted to ask because he simply did not know why he had been cheating on you for the past six months with his assistant.
The same assistant that knew you two were dating.
“Y/n baby please-“
“Babe have you told her?” Pepper’s voice cut him off this time.
Tony’s eyes went straight to his shoes finding it easier for him to shake his head without looking at you.
“To-told me what?”
What could be worse than finding out that your boyfriend had been cheating on you for six months?
“I’m pregnant! We’re going to have a baby”
That’ll do it. That was worse.
You and Tony agreed that you’d both start trying to get pregnant when you celebrated your three year anniversary. It just wasn’t working but you kept trying. Until eight months ago. You found out you was pregnant, the way Tony’s face lit up with tears streaming down his cheeks when you told him he was going to be a father engrained it’s self into your memory.
A month after that happy day you woke up to cramps in your stomach, Tony rushed you to the hospital where they told you that you had lost baby Stark.
Maybe that’s what drove him into the arms of another woman. A woman who was the same age as him. A woman that could give him what he’s always wanted.
A woman that simply wasn’t you.
“D-do you love her?”
Tony frowned at the question, he expected you to call him names or something. He expected you to tell him that he was worse than the devil himself but no, no you asked him if he loved Pepper.
“Y-yes”
“I-I wish you two t-the best.” Tony’s sad eyes filled with tears, the itch to ask him why he was sad for gnawed at you, Pepper looked smug.
Turning to Pepper you looked her in the eyes “you know the saying don’t you? What they do with you…they do on you”
You were rather proud of the fact that you didn’t stutter when looking at the woman who was sleeping with your boyfriend. Seeing her smug smile drop when she understood what you were implying turned your pain into satisfaction.
Tumblr media
“Y/n?”
“Hel-hi Tony”
“I knew that was you, hi”
It’s been six years since you last saw Tony, a year after leaving you met a divorcee a few months after moving to a new town. Things moved quickly between the pair of you, a year after meeting him he proposed, a month later you were married, eight months later you gave birth to your daughter. Finding yourself pregnant four months after giving birth to Ali, several months afterwards you gave birth to twin boys Harvey and Jackson.
“Hi Tony. What are you doing here?”
Here being in the town you lived in with your family, here being in the car park of target.
“We had a mission just dropping off for some food, what about you?”
“I live here”
“Oh, so how have you been?”
“Fine. What about you?”
“Fine. Fine. I-I messed up Y/n/n badly! Turned out that the baby wasn’t mine an-and I’ve been trying to find yo-“
“Momma!” You turned around to find Ali running at you full speed, her pigtails flailing around as she got closer to you.
“Momma? Y/n is she mine?”
“No-“ you had to laugh at his question. Luckily he hadn’t touched you in them five months of him cheating on you, it was impossible for him to be the dad of your beautiful baby girl. “No she’s my husbands”
“H-husband?” Tony stuttered, eyes going straight to your ring finger. Heart sinking when he found a shiny diamond ring sitting there.
“That would be me, nice to meet a friend of Y/n’s. Baby the twins made me get them a new toy”
“Made you? Your an adult, they are only children”
“They’re scary babe”
Tony stood there awkwardly watching the interaction between the woman who he has never stopped loving, and her husband.
“T-twins? You have three kids?”
“Yeah, they practically run the house. Always outnumbered with the three little rascals” your husband said smiling proudly. “Oh by the way I’m Andy, nice to meet you.”
“Tony”
“Yeah I know who you are. Come on baby we need to get going home” Tony didn’t like the way Andy’s voice was towards him.
“Coming love. It was nice seeing you Tony, I’m sorry about the baby. I wish you nothing but happiness, goodbye”
You didn’t even let him say anything back to you before you took Andy’s waiting hand as he had Ali in his other arm.
Getting into the car with your husband after he got Ali into her car seat, you smiled at the twins and Jacob - your stepson - then at your husband.
After finding out about Tony’s betrayal you thought you would never find love and happiness again but life lead you to Andy, the man who made you feel loved more than Tony ever did. Andy made you feel happier more than Tony ever did.
“Let’s go home”
As your family’s car pulled out of the parking lot Tony’s eyes never left the vehicle.
He had lost his everything the moment he let Pepper kiss him that first time. Now six years on he had truly lost his world to another man.

For You: Part I
This is for @spiderlinging who decided this level of angst needed to exist.
Have thoughts on a follow up, unsure if I'll do it.
Edit: decided to make this multi-parted.
Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V | Part VI | Part VII | Part VIII | Part IX
›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹›‹
It had been a week since the last battle with Thanos. A week since the Blipped had returned everyone, a week since Peter awoke to Dr. Strange leading him through a portal straight into battle.
A week since Tony died.
It's all Peter can think about. The only thing he can think about. Not how traumatizing two battles back to back was, not the chaos and insanity of war, not even of how happy he should be that May and Ned and MJ are actually okay.
Instead, it's Tony, Tony, Tony. His thoughts had revolved around the older man for years now, so it wasn't new. But normally it was excitement, arousal, anticipation, joy. Now, though, it's hugging him as he felt like he was being ripped apart by the Blip. The joy of finding him and being dragged to him in a fierce hug, mid-battle, the billionaire's hands running through his hair. His voice, soft and full of this sort of grieving happiness.
"Peter," he'd said, "oh god, Peter."
And finally it was Mr. Stark's face as he sat dazed against a piece of wreckage amidst the chaos. How blank his eyes were, how little of the man was left, barely hanging on.
That face haunted his dreams, the emptiness filling up his nightmares.
And now here he was, at a lake house he could've never seen Tony living in, with people around him crying and mournful. Like they'd lost a friend when Peter felt like he'd lost a limb. Like his whole heart was being shoved out onto that lake with the last part of Tony Stark he'd ever get to see. Behind him, Happy was talking quietly to Morgan, Tony's kid - Peter's goddaughter, apparently.
He never knew you could make a dead person a godparent before, but there's a lot of things Peter never knew.
Like the thing is - Peter thought he knew grief, knew loss. His parents when he was a kid, Uncle Ben just after he'd gotten his powers. These were huge, space-taking people in his soul but losing Tony? Losing Tony was worse than anything he'd ever experienced before. He felt bad about it, sometimes. Because shouldn't his family have been the ones that meant the most, hurt the most? But then again, Tony had been everything. He'd always sort of thought he loved Tony in the way someone might love an idol, like his feelings were somehow offset by hero worship and being a teenager but it was so much more than that.
It might've started off that way, but after years of knowing him, being his friend through tough times and glad ones - it morphed along the way without him really noticing it. Got deeper, got more meaningful with every lab session and every time Tony said, "Just stay the night kid, you know where your room is. Aunt Hottie doesn't need to be woken up at 3AM with you coming home anyway."
The teen thought he'd cried every ounce of pain from him in the week since the battle, but as his eyes misted up again, he turned and headed around the back of the cabin. It was empty of people on this side and he slid down in the corner where the porch extruded out of the building. Hands covering his face, barely aware of the rotting, damp leaves under him. He just needed a minute to get it together. Just one minute and he'd -
A sound of footsteps approaching, light ones, made him stand back up again and wipe his face free of tears. He knew from experience that his eyes would be a horrible red against how pale his skin was, but there was nothing to be done about it.
Around the corner came Pepper in her funeral clothes, looking at him blankly. It was clear she'd been looking for him but he couldn't figure out why. They just stared at each other for a second, neither moving, and as the moments ticked on he got increasingly uncomfortable and awkward around this powerhouse of a woman he'd never really spent time with.
"Sorry, I just needed to step away for a - "
"He did it because of you, you know," she said, voice as neutral as her face. He blinked at her.
"I'm sorry, what - ?"
"He did it for you." And there was the anger. Her face transformed with it, skin flushing a red that clashed with her hair in a way that was still, somehow, beautiful. It was easy to see why Tony picked her out of everyone. Before he could say anything, she continued. "He told me," she said, tears clouding her voice, nose stuffing up with emotion, "that he'd figured it out. Figured out how to save everyone."
She laughed and it was the most hateful sound he'd ever heard. Shaking her head, smiling in a way that said 'fed up', she said, "But I knew. I knew he didn't do it to be the savior of humanity. His ego was always big, and he was always willing to sacrifice if he thought the price was worth it." She stopped again and stared at him, face contorting.
"He saved a lot of people," Peter agreed, spidey-sense screaming at him and he didn't know why. Every hair on the back of his neck stood on end, and he felt like he was being bombarded. It was nauseating.
"He didn't save people, Peter," she screeched, stomping toward him, hand fisted around a cloth handkerchief, finger pointing at his face. "Tony's ego was always enough to think he could save the world," she continued, voice as mad as a wolf's growl, "but he didn't do it for them. He did it for you." She hissed out, "He kept your picture in the kitchen and just stared at it - all the time! Stared at it like you were some missing part of him and if he just looked long enough you'd reappear." She laughed again, rolling her eyes.
Behind her, a crowd was appearing. Sam and Bucky first, eyes scoping out the situation like the heroes they were. Then Happy, peaking around. The other teenager - Harley, Peter remembered - was further back, near the trees, watching with a ducked face, riveted.
"Tony saved the universe," she agreed, voice even more watery. "But he didn't do it for them - he did it for you." She had moved forward enough now to jab her finger into his chest. "He could've killed everyone with his stupid time travel bullshit," she spat, jabbing harder. "He could've undone reality with it, he could've made it to where Morgan never existed." She sobbed and the anger started to drain from her, head bending. "But it didn't matter as long as he got you back." She sobbed again and as much as his heart was rending itself atom by atom by what she was saying, he couldn't fault her anger, her rage, her sadness.
He stepped forward and she dropped onto him, letting him hold her weight up as she continued to sob.
"He did it for you."
And Peter had never heard anything worse in his entire, fucked up existence.
How was he ever going to live with himself now, knowing this.
How?

Annoying Neighbour - Part 4
Tumblr media
A/N: It seems like it’s been a minute since the last update on this one huh? Two years, damn. Anywho here it is. Leave a comment, like and reblog if you enjoyed reading!
Pairing: Single Dad! Tony Stark x Reader
Warning: Angst? Yeah.
Word count: 1.8k
Annoying Neighbour Masterlist
.
“Hi, I’m Pepper, Tony’s ex-wife. You must be (Y/N).”
It had been an awfully long ten seconds before a reply finally fell from your lips. A weak ‘yeah’ that was barely over a whisper before Tony’s ex-wife clasped your hands together in a firm handshake. The kind of handshake that had you wonder if she was gauging your character and intentions with her husband…well, ex-husband.
A part of you wished to disappear from the site while another part wanted to stay put. The woman was quite stunning. A part of you pictured Tony and Pepper together as the ultimate power couple.
“Were you here to check up on Tony? He’s dandy.” Her tone made you so self-conscious, it was ridiculous. The way she spoke was condescending, even if she probably didn’t mean it.
“Um. Yeah, I actually brought him some food.” You pointed to the take out boxes that sat on the kitchen counter, shifting uncomfortably as Pepper let out a small chuckle, shaking her head.
“Well, aren’t you sweet? We actually were quite hungry.”
We.
What did she even mean? And where was Tony? Why wasn’t he here? You knew it’d make you feel better if he was. At least you had hoped for that.
Shifting uncomfortably on your feet, you decided it was probably best if you left. Pepper clearly wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon and Tony wasn’t here for an explanation.
“I’m gonna go. It was nice meeting you, Pepper.” You mumbled, giving her a small smile and a nod before heading out the door.
“I’ll tell him you stopped by!” She called after you, her tone almost mocking at this point, you thought.
Your brain was on overdrive by the time you reached your house. Why was Tony’s ex suddenly in his house? How in the world did she know about you? And most importantly, where was Tony? There were too many questions that needed answers.
As stressed as you were, a way of coping with that stress made you grab a pair of rubber gloves and scrub your kitchen clean. You didn’t know why but it always made you feel better. Even as a child, every time you were upset, you’d either take a walk outside, clean out your toys or do something productive, a habit you had picked up from your mum.
About an hour later, your doorbell rang, revealing Morgan clutching the hand of a man you didn’t recognise.
“Hi Y/N!” she greeted you cheerfully, making you grin wide as she hugged your legs.
“This is Uncle Rhodey. Daddy’s best friend. Uncle Rhodey, this is Y/N, she’s my friend.” She introduced the man who offered you a kind smile and his hand. Morgan in the meantime was distracted by a painting you had on your living room wall and made a run towards it.
Rhodey explained he was dropping Morgan off at her home but there had been a sudden turn of events, which led him here. He was hoping you’d look after her for some time while Pepper and Tony had a chat. Whatever that meant.
“I’m really sorry to spring this on you, Y/N, and I understand if you’re busy or not comfortable, it’s just that, she insisted on spending time with you.” he nodded towards Tony’s daughter, who was now busy looking at magazines you had lying around your table.
“It’s okay. I wasn’t busy and I like her, she’s a good kid.” you smiled politely at the man, before taking her small backpack from him.
“Tony mentioned he’d pick her up from here later.”
Oh. So he was talking then. Just not to you. And Pepper and Tony were going to ‘chat’ while you played babysitter to their daughter. Shaking your thoughts away, you thanked him as Morgan waved her uncle goodbye before closing the door and letting out a sigh. Certainly wasn’t how you imagined your day to go.
“What were you doing?” Morgan piped up, looking around your house curiously.
“Well, I was thinking about baking chocolate chip cookies, and I wouldn’t mind some help. What do you say?” you grinned watching her face light up at the mention of cookies.
You had always been good with children, it came quite naturally to you and Morgan was definitely a well brought up child. All thanks to her wonderful father, you thought. You were probably too quick to judge but Pepper didn’t seem like someone with a maternal instinct although she was a mom. With what Tony had told you and the fact that Morgan never brought her Mom up in any conversation you had had.
“Are chocolate chip cookies your favorite, Y/N?” she asked whilst mixing sugar and butter with a whisk as best as she could.
“They are. What about you? What do you like the most?”
“Cheeseburgers. Daddy and I love cheeseburgers the most.” she watched you beat the eggs and sift flour, bring the mixture together after adding chocolate chips which she mischievously snuck into her palm.
“Do you like my Daddy?”
You paused for a moment as you opened the door of the fridge to keep the cookie dough to chill, contemplating the answer. It was easy though. You liked him. A lot. It was bordering on more than like for you. Until today. Now , you were not so sure.
“I do, honey. I like him.” you gave her an honest answer, smiling a little as her face lit up again.
“He likes you too. He talks about you a lot.” Morgan offered you some chocolate chips she had stolen, making your heart jump hopelessly at her candidness.
You had some time to kill before the cookies would be ready to bake so you asked her to pick out a movie to watch while you cleaned up. The window of your kitchen overlooked Tony’s living room, which is how you’d often converse with the man. There was a flurry of activity that caught your attention as you scrubbed mixing bowls.
It was Tony and Pepper. Walking around the living room, deep in conversation that you secretly wished you could overhear. You saw Tony rub a hand down his face before Pepper approached him, placing her arms around him and cupping his face. Your heart sunk to your stomach as you watched them kiss.
“Y/N! I think we should watch Frozen! Come quick!”
The bowl clattered in the sink as you pulled your gaze away from the scene that had stunned you. Taking a deep breath you tried to ground yourself, pulling the curtains close and continuing with your task at hand.
“Be right there Morgan!” you tried sounding as cheery as you could, blinking tears away and offering her a big smile.
They kissed. Right in the living room, right before you. Albeit unaware that you had witnessed it. Your brain worked into overdrive as the movie played, Morgan hummed almost every song enthusiastically as she sat next to you, blissfully unaware of the goings on.
This was such a mistake. How could you have been so stupid? Getting involved with a man who had a family? They were divorced, sure. But there was no denying that they were still a family. It was always complicated with families, you knew that. But let yourself get swept off your feet by Tony. The last few weeks now seemed like a dream that had suddenly just come crashing down.
By the time you finished both movies, Morgan was half asleep in your lap and your eyes hurt from keeping unshed tears at bay. You made sure she was comfortable and covered her with a blanket before heading into your kitchen to bake the cookies.
There was a knock on your door as you paced about the kitchen while the cookies cooled down on a rack. In your heart you knew who it was, and your mind was screaming on the inside, cursing you for getting involved in this situation.
Tony stood leaning against your doorway waiting as you opened the door, the sight of him almost making you tear up again. But you couldn’t let him know what you saw. Though a part of you wanted an explanation.
“Hi hon. I wanted to say how sorry I was for not coming by earlier. You know there was a lot that happened with Pep–”
“Morgan’s asleep on the couch.” you cut his speech short, opening the door further to let him in before heading back to the kitchen. He figured you would be upset but he was prepared to apologize. What he wasn’t prepared for was how you were avoiding meeting his eyes.
“Thank you Y/N for looking after her, you really didn’t have to. And look, about what happened–”
“We made these together. But she fell asleep. So here.” you handed him a small container in which you packed the cookies, still avoiding his gaze as he picked his kid up in his arms.
“I understand you’re upset. But you have to let me explain, Y/N. Please.”
You gave in and lifted your gaze up to meet his eyes. Yet another mistake. It felt like your heart shattered all over again looking into those brown orbs that held earnesty. You quietly walked away and held the door, silently hoping he’d leave you alone. You could not deal with this, not right now.
“Could I come by later today? I really need to talk to you. Please Y/N.”
“This was a bad idea, Tony. I don’t think we should see each other anymore.” your voice shook as you uttered the words, blinking away tears that welled in your eyes.
You couldn’t wait any longer. So you did what you had to and shut the door on Tony’s heartbroken face before he could stop you. Sinking to the floor, you sobbed into your hands, aware of the fact that he was probably still outside your porch, listening to your crying.
It had to be done. Getting involved with Tony Stark was a big mistake.

“Mr. Stark, could we pick up now where we left off?” Senator Stern calls out behind him, sitting along with a panel of other dumbass officials who seem older than the furniture they’ve surrounded themselves with. Tony’s attention, however, remains on Pepper. Can you really blame him? “Mr Stark. Please.”
When Pepper shushes him away, he turns around. “Yes, dear?” The people witnessing the shitshow let out a collective giggle.
“Can I have your attention?” Stern asks.
“Absolutely.”
“Do you or do you not possess a specialized weapon?”
“I do not.” He’s being honest.
“You do not?” Stern bites back.
“I do not,” He repeats.
“Care to explain that?” Stern questions.
“Mr. Stark’s answer to that question will be contingent upon your definition of a weapon,” Y/n chimes in. And man, isn’t it great having a sister who’s a lawyer? Tony thinks he won the lucky draw with it all because his sister is a little shit just like him who doesn’t really believe in half-assing anything… Or maybe he’s like her…? Whatever, that’s beside the point. The point is that she might have gotten the degree on a whim, but she definitely is the best lawyer money can buy and Tony doesn’t even have to pay for it!
“The Iron Man weapon.” Stern replies foolishly.
The Iron Man weapon? He thinks. Would’ve been less insulted if he called it a fucking robot.
“My device does not fit that description,” Tony answers.
“Well… How would you describe it?” Stern throws back.
“I would describe it by defining it as what it is, Senator.”
“As?” Stern prompts.
“It’s—It’s a high-tech prosthesis.” The crowd chuckles again. “That is—that—That’s actually the most apt description I can make of it.”
“It’s a weapon. It’s a weapon, Mr. Stark,” Stern surmises, pissed off and clearly annoyed. Is it bad that Tony’s having fun with that?
“If you are to classify the suit made by Mr. Stark—which I would like to remind you is something that you just did out of your own volition—but if you insist upon calling it a weapon, made by him in his spare time, which he bared all the expenses for, then this council meeting would become considerably redundant, as not only is that his private property, but it’s also legal for him to own as it is his part of his second amendment right to bare arms — your extremely vocal support of which won you your current seat, Senator. Isn’t that correct?”
Stern lets out a laugh, and Tony does too. Because that is a fucking hilarious defense.
“You can’t be serious. You can’t compare a whole suit of armor with missiles attached to it with a gun he can just carry around,” Stern argues. “It’s a weapon—a weapon capable of a lot of damage, examples of which we have already seen.
Y/n keeps leaning on her seat, casual as ever, completely unperturbed. “We never called it a weapon, Senator. You did. All we are stating are the facts; the suit is private property, invented, designed, and built by Mr. Stark exclusively, with his own money and his own resources. Why would the government have any claim on it whatsoever?”
Stern scoffs. “Let’s start with the fact that the second amendment does not apply to automatic weapons.”
Y/n just shrugs. “As per the constitution, ‘automatic weapons’ encompasses machine guns. No part of the suit can be classified as an ‘automatic weapon’ under those stipulations. On the other hand, a rocket launcher? Sure. But Mr. Stark has the necessary permits to own such weapons dur to his previous career as a weapons developer.”
“The suit does not fall under the second amendment,” Stern’s losing his shit right now. Tony wishes he had popcorn. “It just can’t. It is armed with at least hundred missiles. You cannot legitimately argue that it’s the same as owning a shotgun.”
“Senator—” Y/n sits up, and he knows it’s time to pull out his phone and get ready to click pictures of Stern’s face ‘cause she’s about to rip him apart. “—Here’s where you’re going wrong… The suit isn’t technically a joint unit. It is assembled by Mr. Stark as per his requirement. The different parts of the suit that you were so eager to classify as a weapon are all separate entities for which Mr. Stark has the required certification to own. The suit, lovingly referred to as the Iron Man suit is the intellectual and physical property of Stark Industries therefore it belongs solely to Stark Industries the corollary being that Mr. Stark and I own the suit. And if the government wants to use it for its own purposes, they are welcome to try making their own, or,” she shrugs again with a smirk, “ask real nice with a cherry on top.” Then she fucking winks.
Stern looks fucking red. His jaw clenches, he wants to curse at Y/n. Actually, Tony thinks he might want to throw the mic at her. But instead, he recomposes himself. “That, Ms. Stark, is absolutely absurd.”
“Is it?” Y/n challenges.
Tony feels like he should intervene, or Stern might actually throw the mic at her. He feels bad for the poor guy. I mean, come on. After that, he needs a softer touch. “Please, if your priority was actually the well-being of the American citizen—”
“My priority is to get the Iron Man weapon turned over to the people of the United States of America,” Stern argues.
Yeah, fuck this.
Tony’s conciliatory tone is gone. He leans in closer to the mic in front of him, “Well, you can forget it. I am Iron Man. The suit and I are one. To turn over the Iron Man suit would be to turn over myself which is tantamount to indentured servitude or prostitution, depending on what state you’re in.” The crowd laughs. “You can’t have it.”
“Look, I’m no expert—”
Tony cuts him off “In prostitution? Of course not. You’re a senator. Come on!” The crowd chuckles and he basks in it, holding up a peace sign. But when he looks back at Pepper, well, let’s just say she’s not impressed at all. He mouths “No?” and she just shakes her head in disapproval. He looks over at Y/n then. Mouths again, “No?” Smiling, she mouths back, “Yes.”
They smile at each other.
“I’m no expert in weapons. We have somebody here who is an expert on weapons,” Stern continues while fidgeting with his tie. “I’d now like to call Justin Hammer,” that makes Tony look up, “our current primary weapons contractor.”
This day just took a turn for the shit.
Justin Hammer walks in, with his shitty little face in his shitty little suit, wearing his shitty little glasses, and takes a seat.
Tony leans towards the mic again, “Let the record reflect that I observed Mr. Hammer entering the chamber, and I am wondering if and when any actual expert will also be in attendance.”
Hammer just lets out a small chuckle, taking a sip of water. “Absolutely. I’m no expert. I defer to you, Anthony. You’re the wonder boy.” Asshat, Tony thinks to himself. Hammer makes him nervous. In like a concerned-for-the-wel-lbeing-of-people kinda way, he looks over at Y/n. She just shakes her head, indicating Tony has nothing to worry about. “Senator, if I may,” Hammer continues as he walks over to the podium in front of them. “I may well not be an expert, but you know who was the expert? Your dad. Howard Stark. Really a father to us all, and to the military-industrial age. Let’s just be clear, he was no flower child. He was a lion. We all know why we’re here. In the last six months, Anthony Stark has created a sword with untold possibilities. And yet, he insists it’s a shield. He asks us to trust him as we cower behind it. I wish I were comforted, Anthony, I really do. I’d love to leave my door unlocked when I leave the house, but this ain’t Canada.”
“If he is so afraid, Mr. Stark and I would like to urge Mr. Hammer to move to Canada or if he’d like, Stark Industries has a great home security system we could install, free of charge as a gift to provide comfort,” Y/n deadpans. Her face is so damn calm it almost comes off as sincere.
Hammer looks very justifiably unsettled. “You know, we live in a world of grave threats, threats that Mr. Stark will not always be able to foresee. Thank you.” He walks back to his seat. “God bless Iron Man. God bless America.”
“That is well said, Mr. Hammer,” Stern says with a small smile. “The committee would now like to invite Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes to the chamber.”
“Rhodey? What?” Tony looks back towards the doors, he notices, however, Y/n doesn’t move an inch.
As Rhodey walks in, Tony gets up and meets him halfway to greet him. They shake hands.
“Hey, buddy. I didn’t expect to see you here,” Tony comments.
Rhodey looks at him, “Look, it’s me, I’m here. Deal with it. Let’s move on.”
“I just…” Tony tries but Rhodey cuts him off.
“Drop it.”
Tony throws his hands up, “All right, I’ll drop it.”
Both of them walk over to the seats. He sits back on his own seat meanwhile Rhodey takes a seat right next to Y/n.
“Hey Y/n,” Rhodey greets her with a smile.
She smiles too. “Hey, Rhodes.”
“You knew about this?” Tony asks her, as Stern asks Rhodey to read off some report.
“You pay me to know this kinda shit,” she replies.
“You’re billing me for this?” Somehow despite all the twists and turns, this is the most surprising thing to happen to him today.
She makes a face that’s something close to pure disdain. “You bet your iron ass, I am.”
“I have before me a complete report on the Iron Man weapon, complied by Colonel Rhodes. And, Colonel, for the record, can you please read page 57, paragraph four?” Stern instructs.
“You’re requesting that I read specific selections from my report, Senator?” Rhodey’s tone makes his disagreement absolutely clear.
“Yes, sir,” Stern insists.
“It was my understanding that I was going to be testifying in a much more comprehensive and detailed manner,” Rhodey argues, in the most polite-Rhodey-esque manner possible.
“I understand,” Stern states with disinterest. “A lot of things have changed today. So if you could just read—”
“You do understand that reading a single paragraph out of context does not reflect the summary of my final—” Rhodey’s protests are cut off.
“Just read it, Colonel. I do. Thank you,” Stern says dismissively.
Rhodey looks over at Y/n then, as if asking for permission in a way. When she nods, reluctant he begins, “Very well. ‘As he does not operate within any definable branch of government, Iron Man presents a potential threat to the security of both the nation and to her interests.’ I did, however,” Stern tries to interrupt him, but Rhodey doesn’t budge, “go on to summarise that the benefits of Iron Man far outweigh three liabilities and that it would be in our interest—”
Stern talks over him without any shame whatsoever. “That’s enough Colonel.”
Rhodey continues regardless. “—to fold Mr. Starkinto the existing chain of command, Senator—”
“That’s enough,” Stern shuts it down.
Tony decides to be a nuisance because, well, he hasn’t done that in a while “I’m not a joiner, but I’ll consider Secretary of Defence, if you ask nice.” The crowd laughs. “We can amend the hours a little bit.”
“I’d like to go on and show, if I may, the imagery that’s connected to your report,” Stern says, pointing
“I believe it is somewhat premature to reveal these images to the general public at this time,” Rhodey argues.
“With all due respect, Colonel, I understand. And if you could just narrate those for us, we’d be very grateful.”
Maybe Stern was one of those kids whose parents gave him actual coal on Christmas when he was a little asshole throughout the year, Tony thinks to himself. And that coal is what seems to be stuck up his ass, because what else could make the bastard so fucking insufferable?
“Let’s have the images,” Rhodey says, pointing over to the TV in the corner of the courtroom. As the images begin to show up, he narrates, “Intelligence suggests that the devices seen in these photos are, in fact, attempts at making manned copies of Mr. Stark’s suit. This has been corroborated by our allies and local intelligence on the ground indicating that these suits are quite possibly, at this moment, operational.”
While Rhodey gives his statement, Y/n looks over at him. “Do the thing,” she says.
“The thing?” Tony asks, playing dumb.
She rolls her eyes. “Just do it. I send the files over to Jarvis, they’re uploaded and ready to go. Can you just do it?”
He smiles, pulling out his phone, he looks over all the footage once, and yep. There they are. Remember how he said he won the lucky draw having his sister as his sister? Her previous work experience comes in real handy when you need top-secret information that the government isn’t exactly interested in sharing.
Holding his phone up to align with the screens, Tony begins, “Hold on a second buddy. Let me see something here.” He connects his system to them as the code begins to infiltrate the system. “Boy, I’m good. I commandeered your screens. I need them. Time for a little transparency. Now, let’s see what’s really going on.”
“What is he doing?” Stern is panicking.
“If you will direct your attention to said screens, I believe that’s North Korea,” Tony narrates as a video of a suit plays on the screen. It falls over, crashing and burning in their efforts to replicate his suit. The clip ends with blood splattering over the screen which is absolutely a sign of a well-functioning suit of armor for sure.
The crowd behind them loses their collective shits.
“Can you turn that off? Take it off!” Stern calls out to no one in particular. However, Hammer springs into action, trying to turn it all off. Tony suspects it has something to do with what he knows might show up next.
“Iran,” Tony notes as video footage of a suit flying plays. It does well enough, for all of five seconds before that too crashes. And judging by the fire, probably also burns.
Hammer continues his futile tries to turn the screens off.
“No grave threat here,” Tony says, smiling. And then, for the big one. “Is that Justin Hammer? How did Hammer get in the game?” This is so much fun because while Hammer tries in utter panic to turn the screen off it is playing a video of Justin Hammer, himself, standing next to a suit, commanding it to make movements that it barely follows, before fucking up altogether and twisting a complete 180 degrees.
Tony, Y/n, and Rhodey exchange a look where all can’t help but smile at the incompetence, while the crowd behind them gasps in shock and fear.
“Justin, you’re on TV. Focus up,” Y/n remarks with a cunning grin.
Just as not-TV Justin finds the plug and unplugs the screen, Tony says, “Wow. Yeah, I’d say most countries, five? Ten years away? Hammer Industries—twenty.”
“I would like to suggest the council consider hiring a new primary weapons contractor because, well, that—” she points at the screen”—and also because while Mr. Hammer might be right in his claim that Mr. Stark might not be able to predict every single threat, he can at least build a fully functional suit of armor—much unlike your expert witness, Senator.” Y/n smiles with a challenge in her eyes as she speaks.
This reminds Tony of when he was a kid and Y/n would trip the kids who’d try to take away his toys. Was she abusing her powers a bit? Yes. Did they deserve it? Yes.
Hammer rushes back to the mic to state, “I’d like to point out that that test pilot survived.”
“I think we’re done is the point that he’s making.” Stern is standing up from his seat and he seems so lost, it makes Tony feel a little bad for the poor guy. But then again, fuck him. “I don’t think there’s any reason—”
“The point is, you’re welcome, I guess,” Tony states.”
“For what?” Stern asks, dumbfounded.
“Because I’m your nuclear deterrent,” Tony says easily. “It’s working. We’re safe. America is secure. You want my property? You can’t have it. But I did you a big favor.” He stands up and turns around to face the crowd. “I’ve successfully privatized world peace.” He throws out two peace signs for good measure while everyone stands up and begins to applaud him.
“What more do you want? For now!” Tony shouts out over the cheers. “I tried to play ball with these ass-clowns,” he comments, turning to point at the council who look wrecked.
“Fuck you, Mr. Stark. Fuck you, buddy,” Stern spits out with utter hatred. “We’re adjourned. We’re adjourned for today.”
“Okay,” Tony says casually, putting on his sunglasses.
Tumblr media
“You’ve been a delight,” Stern says, every word drenched in venom. Meanwhile, Tony gives him a thumbs-up, sends a couple of flying kisses his way, and walks out of the room surrounded by the cheering crowd.
It’s later that he’s seated in the car that he realizes, he left Y/n behind.
“Jarvis, call Y/n.”
“Calling Ms. Stark,” Jarvis replies.
The call connects.
“Hey, where’d you go?” He asks, hands on the wheel. He’s waiting now, stationary as ever.
“I didn’t go anywhere, you decided you’re the savior of the American people, and walked out to let said people laud all over, so in turn, I decided to hitch a ride with Rhodey,” she answers, sounding… frustrated?
He begins driving. “Are you mad at me? I thought that went pretty well.”
“It did go well. Up until the point you decided you’ve developed a god complex at the end and announced yourself as the nuclear deterrent.” Yeah, she’s definitely frustrated.
“But, come on! I am all of those things,” he argues, with a very slight mocking tone.
But apparently, she doesn’t agree because he’s met with a sigh from the other end.
“Look, Tony, you told me you needed to do this to help people, to make your life worthwhile—that’s why I wanted to help you out.” She pauses. “I saw something really fucking great in you. It’s always been there, but I—I see it come up to the surface when you’re wearing that suit, which is why I was ready to fight the government to let you keep it. But if you’re gonna be the same arrogant asshole about it then I, myself will salvage your suit for parts and sell it off on eBay.” Now she sounds downright pissed off.
“Y/n, come on—” she cuts him off.
“There are people out there, you know?” Her voice is hushed, it puts him on edge.
“What people?” He asks.
“When I was looking into countries trying to develop similar tech to the Iron Man suit, I found people out there who could replicate it, they just haven’t gotten around to it,” she tells him in quiet whispers.
“Yeah?” He’s freaking out a little now… only a little. “Like who?”
“About half a dozen of them… But most prominently, Howard used to work with this guy, Anton Vanko. He got deported to Russia in ‘67 after he was accused of espionage, he died a couple months ago.”
“So a dead guy then?”
“He had a son,” Y/n bites back. “I’m trying to figure out if he has the designs, but know this, Tony, he does have the skills to pull it off.”
He’s freaking out a lot now, so much so that the car feels almost claustrophobic to him now. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” He says instead.
There is silence on the other side for a while and then, “I’m right behind you, Tony. Always. But you gotta be better.”
The call disconnects.

// Closed Starter for @freckledboss
Having a secret identity was proving to be quite the annoyance for Tony. Since he cave, he'd been hiding his medical condition, that was threatening his life and required him to now always wear a metal chest plate with an electromagnet built in, keeping he shrapnel imbedded in his chest from reaching his heart.
It was a big secret to keep, but it wasn't his only one. The other one was really big.
TONY STARK WAS IRON MAN.
Keeping the secret had meant that he could help fight crime and keep the world safe, but it also meant he had no one to rely on and help when he needed it.
LIKE NOW FOR EXAMPLE.
Tony had had his ass kicked. He'd won the fight he'd been in, but he had left battered and bruised with what felt like might be internal bleeding and several broken bones. He'd made it back to his workshop but the suit had lost power before he'd reached an outlet to charge it and he'd sunk to the floor, fairly certain her was about to die.
He supposed this was one way to let the world know who he was.

New Tony x Pepper smutty one shot!
Tumblr media
Can’t Just Expect Sex…
18+ smut
The latch on the door had barely slotted back into place by the time Tony’s hands were upon her hips, holding her against him from behind.
“Are you looking for something, Mr Stark?” She asked, willingly staying where she was with his hands still against her.
“Found it.” He dipped his head forward to whisper into her ear.
“Oh, ‘it’?” Pepper scoffed, trying her best not to instantly fall to the mercy of his hands trailing down her sides and his lips planting light kisses down the side of her neck.
“Mhmm…” He mumbled, lightly flicking the tip of his tongue against the crook of her neck, “Sorry, baby, I mean you…”
“It’s okay,” Pepper smirked, faintly brushing against the crotch of his pants when he drew her in closer to him, “I’ve found ‘it’, too…”
“Do you wanna… do that again just to make sure?” Tony whispered into her ear; his lips parting to allow a moan to escape directly into it when she pressed against him a little harder this time.
“Like that?” Pepper asked, biting her lip to try and hide her grin as her nails soothingly traced back and forth against his forearms while they remained wrapped around her body.
“Do I have to get on my knees and beg you to turn around and kiss me?” He almost huffed out his question, his lips immediately returning to her neck as he waited for her response.
“Tony, you are my boss…” Pepper swallowed hard, tilting her head to the opposite side, “You ask me to do as you see—“ Her words were cut off by him spinning her around, smacking their lips together desperately as she mumble against his lips, “—fit.”
“I’ll tell you what I see fit, Miss Potts…” Tony breathed against her lips, “This little situation we’ve got going on… it seems to be a bit more of a regular occurrence.”
Pepper purposely ignored his comment and wrapped her arms around his neck, showing him that she was just as into this spontaneous visit to her office as he was. Their lips met over and over, and her fingers slid into the hair at the nape of his neck, feeling her breath hitch when their tongues touched. Tony’s hands roamed from her hips to her bottom and then back, trying to bring their bodies as close together as possible.
“Fuck, what is it, hm?” Tony spoke in a shaky tone, the fire in his belly rising higher with each kiss, “It’s forgivable as a one off, sort of okay to happen a couple more times, but… this thing…”
“You are making ‘this thing’ up, Mr. Stark,” Pepper trailed her hands down the front of his body, feeling him shiver from her touch, “The truth is, you are my boss and I am just one of your members of staff,” Her hand cupped his crotch, lightly pressing her palm against it and trying her best not to smirk when Tony’s lips immediately parted against hers, the kisses now getting clumsy, “And I shouldn’t be allowing you to take advantage of me like this… time and time again.” She massaged her hand against the front of his pants each time she emphasised a word.
“Shit, I love it when you play like this with me, Pep…” Tony’s voice was husky, his hands now trembling against her waist.
Their lips smacked together even harder, both of them clearly showing how they wanted each other just as badly. Pepper’s hands continued to massage against the crotch of his pants as he moaned breathlessly against her lips in between each kiss, feeling his cock straining against the material more and more.
“We’ve got to stop doing this…” She spoke against his lips, now purposely playing with his belt.
“A-Absolutely…” Tony nodded weakly, trying to brush his hips further forward.
“If anyone catches us like this, they’ll assume that’s how I worked my way up in your little world.” She nipped at his lips as she managed to get his belt unbuckled, “Fooling around with the boss… doesn’t sound good, does it?”
“N-No…” Tony swallowed hard, now kissing her lips more desperately than ever.
“You can’t just come in here and expect sex.” She whispered in a teasingly seductive tone, pulling the zip of his pants down and slipping her hand inside.
“No, a-absolutely not…” Tony shook his head unconvincingly, almost feeling his knees buckle from the merciless way she teased his cock from over his boxers, “Wh-Why don’t we not have sex right on this desk?” Tony spoke uneasily, attempting to gain enough strength to lift her onto it.
“Mmmh… and we both know I wear this outfit combination out of fashion choice and not because there’s less time I have to wait when you get in here…” Pepper smirked against his lips when she felt his hands rushing under her dress to grasp at her underwear.
“Precisely that.” Tony nodded quickly and tore her underwear from her, tossing it carelessly to the side before hitching her dress up a little more.
“And this has to stop happening…” She moaned out her words as their kisses became more intense, not even believing her own words as she played with the waistband of his boxers.
“Mm, yep, last time…” Tony inhaled sharply when he felt her twang the waistband back against his hips, trying to pull her closer to the edge of the desk, “Your fucking teasing has to stop happening, too…”
“Oh, sorry, Mr. Stark…” She grinned and gripped onto the openings of his pants as they remained hung open, pulling him even closer to her as their lips remained attached.
“I– I just fucking need you one more time.” He panted against her lips, pushing her legs a little further apart as he stepped further between them.
“All yours, Mr Stark.” She whispered lowly, pushing his trousers and boxers down past his hips in one motion.
“Fuck, c’mere, darlin’…” Tony hooked his arms under her thighs and lifted her up a little as he swiftly thrust his hips forward, hissing through his clenched teeth before claiming her lips once more.
“T-Tony!” Pepper gasped against his lips, her fingers weakly grasping onto his hair as he slid into her completely.
“Shh, shh…” Tony lifted one of his hands to cup her cheek, slowly starting to move his hips in a rhythm, “Eventually you’ll get used to the size of it.”
“Eventually?” Pepper pulled at his bottom lip, “I thought we said this would be the last time, hm?”
“Y-Yeah… That's what I said.” Tony mumbled against her lips.
“Better make it worth my time, then…” She smirked, pulling back just briefly to gaze into his heavy eyes.
Tony’s lips parted but he failed to even have a response to her last comment, only tightening his grip on her thighs as she hooked them around him. Their moans synchronised with their movements and Tony leaned her back a little more onto the desk so he could hover further over her, wincing quietly against her lips when he felt her nails digging into his shoulders. His hands moved from her thighs and instead he placed them flat on the desk at either side of her, trying to steady himself as much as possible while his hips drove forward.
“Who knew the boss fucks so good…” Pepper breathed against his lips, her hands almost slipping off him from the speed of his movements.
“Just you…” Tony grunted, “…and the rest.”
“Sleezy bastard.” Pepper moaned, struggling to hook her legs around him as they moaned together.
“You fucking love it, sweetheart.” Tony spoke lowly, the brief conversation alone making each of his thrusts harder.
“No comment, sir.” Pepper bit down on his bottom lip harshly and pulled it out a little, making Tony gasp loudly.
Tony ragged his lip out from between her teeth and placed a bruising kiss to her lips as he gripped onto her thighs, dragging her to the edge of the desk again and standing himself up properly. In unison, his hands clamped onto her and he threw his head back in pleasure, relentlessly pounding his hips forward. Pepper scratched the desk with her nails as she desperately searched for something to grasp onto to stop herself from being catapulted off the desk with each powerful thrust.
“Y-You…” Was all that Tony managed to get out as his eyes rolled back in pleasure, his trembling hands almost starting to lose their grip on her as the pool of warmth in his stomach began to fill.
“T-Tony, you’re going to…” Pepper gasped out her words, squeezing her legs around him, “F-Fuck, pl…please don’t stop, Mr Stark!” Her voice trembled, her fingertips turning white from how tightly she was now trying to hold onto the desk.
“Shit, Pep…” Tony moaned, his mouth wide open and jaw clenching with each pulse of pleasure shooting through him, “Cum for your boss, baby.”
“Mmh… Mr Stark!” Pepper cried out, her back arching off the table and her sweaty hands losing their grip on the table.
“Come here,” Tony opened his heavy eyes and moved his hands to support her upper body, helping her sit up as his hips mercilessly thudded back and forth, each of them now moaning continuously as their bodies were brought closer to one another again, “That’s it, baby. Is that better?” He spoke huskily against her lips before kissing them.
“Ah-!” She inhaled sharply, kissing him back quickly and throwing her arms around him before hiding her face against his neck as she gave herself over to him completely, unable to hold back her climax for even a moment longer, “T-Tony! Fucking… fuck!”
“Oh, baby, y-you’re gonna fucking kill me…” Tony groaned out his words when he felt her tighten around him, his cock now throbbing madly as his own climax drew closer and closer.
His arms remained wrapped around her in an attempt at keeping them both upright as his knees began to buckle beneath him from the ecstasy that was rushing through him. Pepper’s moans and sharp breaths against his neck were all that it took to push him over the edge completely — mainly the arrogant knowing that he had caused them — and digging her heels into his bottom to try and push his hips harder against hers while she rode out her own orgasm.
“G-Goddamn you, Pepper fucking Potts…” He spoke breathlessly as his release spilled out of him with each harsh twitch of his cock, “How dare you know my cock better than I do.”
“Yeah?” Pepper smirked, lifting her head to press a rough kiss to his lips in between his moans, “Probably has something to do with the amount of times this keeps occurring.” Her arms snaked around his neck to bring the top half of him closer to her again, touching the tip of her tongue to his while his lips remained parted.
“Mm…” Tony grunted, clumsily kissing her back as his hips showed no sign in slowing until he had released every last drop of pent up pleasure since the last time they had met, “Fuck.”
His body trembled as the pleasure swept back and forth over him, breathing heavily against Pepper’s lips as her fingers tangled in his hair. His hips gradually came to a stop, but he didn't want to stop being so close to her. Their lips met several times in between trying to catch their breath until their heavy eyes opened and they looked at each other, pausing briefly before letting out a content laugh, their sweaty foreheads touching.
“I’m just gonna put it out there…” Tony lifted one of his hands to cup her cheek within it, “And say that I would not be mad about that happening again.”
“Stop it.” Pepper giggled, playfully swatting his side.
“Correct me if I am wrong, Miss Potts, but I seem to remember you specifically telling me not to stop just a few minutes ago.” He pecked her lips, stepping back slightly and fastening his trousers back up, winking, “Hm?”
“Shh…” Pepper bit her lip while trying to hide her grin, pushing her dress back down over her hips as she hopped off the desk.
“What was that?” Tony teased, sitting down in the desk chair and patting either of his thighs as he gazed up at her, “Come a little closer, my old ears are going.”
Pepper rolled her eyes playfully and sat in his lap, wrapping an arm around his shoulders as he hooked one around her waist. Tony tilted his head up and pursed his bruised lips, grinning when he felt hers against his.
“You were saying?” He spoke with a happy sigh, smiling sweetly once they pulled away.
“If people had their suspicions about us before, I think they've definitely been confirmed now after that wall-rattling experience.” Pepper smirked, pushing his hair off his sticky forehead.
“Would it be so bad if people find out I'm your little secret?” Tony asked, raising his eyebrows.
“I am your little secret!” Pepper scoffed playfully, lightly pulling a strand of his hair and grinned, leaning in to kiss him again before both of them gasped as the office door opened.
“Oh, I'm sorry!” The member of staff widened their eyes as they realised exactly who’s lap Pepper was sat on, “I— I didn't mean to… interrupt, Mr Stark, Miss Potts.”
“There’s no need to apologise,” Tony smiled confidently, placing his hand gently on Pepper’s knee as he tried to speak without laughing as he put a twist on her own words from before, “I keep telling Miss Potts that she just cannot expect sex every time I come in here, but she’s having none of it.”
“Tony!” Pepper gasped, playfully pulling at his hair again.
“I… will see you when you are… done.” The member of staff spoke quickly, turning around and shutting the door.
“I don't want any more secrets, Pep.” Tony immediately spoke with a straight face.
“Any more… what?” Pepper squinted her eyes in confusion, “I’m not hiding anything from you.”
“That's the thing,” Tony cleared his throat, “We have no secrets from each other, but we hide this from everyone else. I want to know what it takes to be yours. I mean truly yours.”
“Stop…” Pepper felt herself blush, hiding her face against his neck, “I cannot fall for the man that puts his life on the line more and more every time I turn around.”
“Hey, look at me,” Tony gently tilted her chin up with his finger, “I promise you this, Pepper Potts; your life will always matter more to me than my own.”

Summary: Tony accepted his daughter's death then goes to the place that she wants to be buried. Warning: Flashback and reunion Co author with: callikc Tag:  @venomsvl  @geeksareunique
From its beginnings as New Amsterdam, all through the years and to its modern day, it was filled with people on the streets desperate to complete their errands of the day. It was certainly called 'the city that never sleeps' for a reason. It had a heart and it had a rhythm, and it was only for just that one day that Tony wished more than anything the city would somehow shut down.
For once it was clear in the skies, not a single gray cloud or speck in sight. At least that made it seem less foreboding.
Tony and Pepper stood in their room, both in black attire. The latter was fixing the former's tie, her eyes focused on the pendant and key that rested on Tony's chest. Once she was finished with the tie, she paused to take in Tony's expression.
It was distant and cold. Sad.
He was still mourning but, much to everybody's relief, he was starting to finally come to terms with your death in the week that had passed since the destruction of his lab. Pepper made sure to prioritize his injury above all else and kept him on a strict rest and wellbeing regime with the help of Bruce and Dr. Cho.
-
It was a few nights before the funeral and Pepper couldn't sleep.
She lay awake in the bed she shared with Tony and busied herself with sorting through digital files and paperwork on the laptop. It was tedious to do at that hour of the night but it was a welcome distraction from the harsh reality of things.
It had been an hour before Tony began to stir next to her. His eyes were shut tight but his other features showed clear panic and fear.
"I'm sorry." He mumbled to himself.
Another nightmare.
"Tony." Pepper whispered, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Tony, wake up."
He responded, but not to her. He continued to mumble things about you, how he wanted to do more and how he should have been faster or quicker and how you lost your entire future because of him.
Pepper placed her laptop on the bedside table and tried to wake him again by using gentle but firm shakes and a slightly raised voice to try and get through.
After some time, it finally worked, and Tony startled awake with labored and shaken breaths.
"Hey." Pepper said softly, making sure he could see her face before he started to panic about his surroundings. "It's okay. You're home."
Tony didn't reply initially and only managed a breathless nod. By the time he finally found his voice again he had processed the surroundings properly.
"I'm sorry." He told Pepper. "Bad dream."
"I know."
"I don't get why I can't stop it."
"It's subconscious. No one can."
"Does it bother you?"
"Never." She smiled lovingly. "We'll get through it just like last time. Together."
-
Back in the present, Tony had his head hung low and a pained expression clouding his face as his thoughts focused on you.
Even if he was learning to accept the truth now, it didn't hurt any less. There was still the pain and the agony and the grief, and there was still the guilt. It didn't seem to matter how many people told him he wasn't to blame for what happened, it just didn't seem to make a difference.
Pepper gently held his cheek in her hand, her own look grief-stricken. Tony leaned into her touch, closing his eyes for a moment.
No words could be said because no words would suffice to ease the pain both were suffering from.
Pepper lifted her other hand and held his other cheek, wiping away a stray tear with her thumb. Tony swayed a little on his feet but kept steady in the end, placing his hands over hers.
Tumblr media
They simply stood in each other's company until a knock on the door filled the silence of the room.
Bruce walked in, also donned in black, with a somber look of empathy.
"Hi." He said in a timid tone, worried about having interrupted a moment.
"Hi, Bruce." Pepper said, doing her best to smile.
"Sorry. Are you, uh... Are you ready? Happy's waiting by the car."
She nodded. "We'll be down in a moment."
"Okay. I'll see you down there."
He promptly left, leaving the room in silence again. At least until Pepper spoke again.
"Ready?" She asked quietly.
Tony let out a shaky sigh. "Do I get the choice?"
It remained unanswered as she began leading him to the door with a sorrowful look. Once they reached the tower parking lot, they found Happy and Bruce by the car.
Happy's expression hadn't changed since the day you died. He was consistently shadowed by a disconsolate feeling.
"You okay, buddy?" Tony asked in a voice so quiet he might not have said anything at all.
Happy managed a nod. "Yeah."
"Sure?"
He nodded a second time. "I'm ready."
-
Just the day before Happy had intended to resign.
He couldn't seem to get over the idea that he was accountable for all that had gone wrong and he had decided that it would be best for everyone if he took a very long and very permanent vacation from the security detail.
"She asked me for secrecy and I said yes because I thought I was helping her." He tried to explain to Tony and Pepper. "What I thought was protection was anything but that. I'm taking responsibility for my actions and hoping for some form of forgiveness before I leave."
There was a dreadful silence.
"What is this?" Tony asked, still staring at the papers.
"My contrition." Happy told him.
Another silence.
Tony looked up from the papers with an expression that surprised Happy. It wasn't relief or agreement like he expected, it was confusion and incredulous.
"I don't get it." Tony said.
Happy glanced at Pepper who shared the confused look. "I'm resigning and accepting accountability."
"Yeah, that's what I don't get."
This time it was Happy who looked bewildered. In his view, he had as good as killed you by not revealing that he had seen and talked to you. He knew who you lived as and he didn't tell anyone, endangering you because no one else could protect you when that horrific day came.
He was startled out of his thoughts when Tony ripped the resignation in half and brought him into a tight embrace.
Happy faltered and took a moment to process before cautiously returning the hug.
"You're my brother." Tony said. "You cared about her and that's all I need to know. That's all I care about. I don't blame you."
Happy closed his eyes. "Why?"
"Because I just can't. She wouldn't."
"Tony..."
"No resigning. I know she loved you, Happy, and I don't want you to go." -
"Steve, Clint, Natasha, and Thor will meet us at the location." Pepper explained as they drove to the mentioned location. "There's going to be journalists and paparazzi but they have restricted access so we don't have to worry about them."
"Where is it?" Tony asked.
He hadn't been as involved in the planning due to his grieving. Pepper had organized pretty much everything.
"Calvary Cemetery." She said.
He looked out the window as he watched the streets fly by. "Why there?"
"Agent Hill suggested it. She said (Y/n) had people in two different places in the same city and that she always wanted the best of both worlds. And that she had special connections in the area and wouldn't want to be separated from them."
Bruce spoke next, his tone curious due to the wording. "What does that mean?"
Tony shared this confusion and Pepper shrugged. "I guess we'll find out soon enough."
Happy didn't say anything but listened to the conversation as he drove to the cemetery. He was surprised by the lack of stormy weather, especially with how miserable the city had looked recently.
-
The reason for the nice weather was Thor himself.
He had returned from Asgard the day before the funeral after taking care of some business in his home realm. It was hard keeping the peace and very exhausting and yet he still had the brightest smile on his face as he greeted his friends on Midgard.
Unfortunately he came back to the news that Tony had lost a daughter. He quickly went to the Tower to find him and was directed by Bruce. The two might not get along but Thor understood how it felt to lose family and he knew that no one deserved the pain if wrought.
"Point Break." Tony greeted, his tone jolted. "Didn't expect you back so soon."
Tumblr media
"Matters between Asgard and Alfheim were settled with fair ease." Thor explained. "Although light elves have quite the temper. You wouldn't expect it."
He nodded. "Right. Well, uh, welcome back."
Even if he tried to look the same, Thor noticed the hurt in his teammate's eyes. He had the same look when he had lost his mother not too long before all of this.
"I heard of your daughter." He said empathetically. "I understand the loss of a loved one, and I am truly sorry, Stark. I would be honored to attend the farewells."
"Sure." Tony hesitated. "And thanks."
He paused again.
"How did you know?" He questioned.
Thor had a sad look still. "My Lady Jane informed me about the news. I believe she, Lady Darcy, and Erik Selvig will be paying their respects also."
"Did they know her?"
"Only in passing, as I did." He thought back to that day, curious. "Her familiarity in the picture we found puzzled me for quite some time until now."
Tony was simply amazed by how many people you seemed to know or at least spoke to. Just how many others were out there? How many people would show up tomorrow?
"When did you meet her?" He questioned.
"Some years ago." Thor replied. "I was banished from Asgard for my own arrogance and found myself stranded in your land of New Mexico. I became acquainted with Jane and her friends whilst there and shortly after that the Son of Coul and Lady (Y/n) arrived. She told me Mjölnir destroyed one of her devices."
"I forgot I wasn't the only one." Bruce chimed in, reminding them that he was also in the room. "I met her a few years ago too, and she said she enjoyed my papers on gamma radiation. She was smart."
Tony looked between them both, his stunned look growing more and more ridiculous by the second.
"And you didn't say anything?" He asked.
"I didn't know she was (Y/n)." Bruce admitted. "It never came up before."
Tony looked away, thinking on the words. He was finally getting to know you and yet at the same time he found it worse because he couldn't actually talk to you about any of it.
You invented something that had a run-in with Thor's hammer. You liked to read papers on scientific exploits.
"Can I ask a favor?" He said towards Thor.
The god stood straight and nodded. "Of course."
"Tomorrow is the funeral." It hurt just to say it. "Just... Can we have weather that isn't trying to drown the city? I'm not asking for sunshine and rainbows, just a clear day."
Thor nodded again. "It would be my pleasure."
-
Back in the car, Tony hadn't said a word for a good ten minutes.
He prefered the silence. He was content with just staring at the sky and holding Pepper's hand as the world rolled past.
But the car soon stopped at a red light.
He looked at the blazing red for a long moment before focusing elsewhere. He caught sight of a parent and child. A dad and his daughter.
The little girl clutched her father's hand as she jumped into old puddles. She had the most brilliant gleaming smile and the dad watched her fondly, laughing whenever she made a big splash on the sidewalk.
Tony wanted it.
He wanted all those moments he skipped out on. He wanted the birthday parties and the first day of school, he wanted to be there when you had your first heartbreak so he could hurt whoever made you sad. He just wanted to be your dad again.
He tightened his hold on Pepper's hand as his other one reached up to hold the key and the pendant. They were all he had left of you now.
When the car finally pulled up to Calvary Church Cemetery, he wasn't at all prepared for what he saw.
The building was magnificent, a testament to the higher power so many people seemed to dedicate themselves to. It had a golden inscription above the double doors talking about resurrection and life with images of Jesus and his followers carved into the old stone. Beyond the grand architecture was the cemetery itself, lines upon lines of graves and memorials dotting the grass.
As Happy complained about parking, Tony found his eyes drawn to the many strangers that littered the front of the cathedral. He didn't recognize them. Not all of them anyway.
He could spot the rest of the Avengers, Dr. Cho, Thor's girlfriend and her own friends, Rhodey and his mother, and Maria Hill. The ones he didn't know were a vast majority of former SHIELD agents, Coulson and Fury in disguise, Skye, Fitz-Simmons, Agent May, the Parkers, Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson, Mr. Delmar and his family, residents of your apartment complex, Ned and his moms, MJ and her mom, some officers who knew you through Ben, the press, and quite a few civilians who must have just been there to pay respects.
Tony, unaware of everyone else's identity, had to gather his courage before daring to step out of the car. Immediately the paparazzi cameras were on him like flies, flashes blinding everyone.
There was a time that he would have relished in all the attention, but those days were now long gone. He couldn't stand it anymore.
"I'll meet you inside." Happy told them. "I've got to do security checks."
Pepper nodded in understanding and thanked him. She then took a pin badge from her bag.
It was pretty, sky-blue with the most beautiful flower imprinted on it. It was a gladiolus flower, representing honor, remembrance, and heroism. It was your favorite.
"This will get you inside." She explained, pinning it to his suit.
"Thanks." He replied, giving them each a farewell before he left to speak to some of the officers on duty.
The first people to greet Tony, Pepper, and Bruce were the other Avengers. Steve had an arm brace since his injuries from the Triskelion were still quite fresh even with all the super soldier healing. The others looked very somber.
"Hey, Tony." Steve greeted first. "I'm sorry about (Y/n)."
Tony managed a small nod. "You and the rest of the world. How's the arm?"
"Healing. I'll manage."
"Good. Can't have Mr. Dorito out of commission for too long."
Although the jokes normally annoyed Steve, he kept up a smile for Tony's sake. The six of them - and Pepper - talked for a bit about how the proceedings would go until Tony spotted Roberta Rhodes. Rhodey's mother. He excused himself to talk to her.
Tumblr media
He hadn't seen her in many years. Since Afghanistan. He did send gifts and cards for Christmas, birthdays, and mother's day since she did the same and never forgot a single holiday. She always tried her best to advise him on your upbringing but he was so arrogant that he never listened.
The second she spotted him she engulfed him in a tight hug and kissed the top of his head lovingly.
"Oh, Tony..." She mumbled, giving him a gentle squeeze. "I'm so sorry, my dear."
He just nodded, forgetting how comforting a mother's embrace could be. He didn't want to let go and probably would have had another breakdown of grief if he wasn't already cried out.
"I'm sorry." He then mumbled, still holding onto her.
"Hey..." Her voice was so gentle and calming. "Whatever for?"
"I didn't listen. You told me what to do and I didn't listen. I wasn't good enough."
"Oh, darling-" She pulled back slightly so she could look him in the eyes. "I won't tolerate that, Tony. You did the best you could even if you didn't know it."
"She hated me, just like... Just like I hated my old man."
"You are not Howard."
"I didn't want to be, but I was. I didn't talk to her, I wasn't there, I never listened. I tried to change but it was too late. She was already gone."
"You still tried." She assured him.
Tony looked away. "You're not disappointed?"
"Never. I didn't like it when my son told me how you raised (Y/n) but I was never disappointed in you. Even when I looked after her and she complained, I always told her to wait and give you time. She understood in the end, just as I did."
He went quiet again, just listening as she went on.
"You're a different man, Tony. A good man. You're a hero to millions, you have a relationship with a beautiful and kind woman, you have friends who are there for you in the darkest time. You are enough. There's no point in trying to change something that doesn't need to be fixed. You did everything you could to find her. You're not Howard. You've always been more like Maria whether you knew it or not."
The Avengers, who had been joined by Rhodey and Agent Hill, questioned who she was as they watched her comfort their friend.
"This is Roberta Rhodes." Rhodey explained. "My mom. She looked after us, and she checked in on (Y/n) for years. Makes a mean cookie, too."
They each smiled at that.
"So who are all these people?" Pepper then asked Hill.
Hill looked around at the crowd, recognizing far more than Tony did before.
"People she knew." She said. "Some are friends, family, some just an acquaintance in the hall, some of them she helped or saved, but they all knew her."
Tony finally let go of Rhodey's mom to look at the crowd again. He had mixed feelings on it all and wasn't sure what he was supposed to express.
"You should be proud." She told him, answering the unspoken question. "I would be. (Y/n) met a lot of people and saved so many more."
He nodded. "I am. She was the real hero.”

(During Iron Man 3)
Tony: If I do not make it, you must save Pepper.
Y/N: Tony, you aren’t even dying right now.
Tony: I want to die every minute, so listen to me.

🎀 — Wedding.
Tumblr media
Tony was never the best father to you, even he knew that. You were a variable he never considered.. until you were 17. Surprisingly, Nick Fury himself recruited you for the Avengers. That's where your relationship starts again.. it was rocky, difficult but at least you each other as teammates.
Your name wasn't an unknown name, just like your biological father you were a genius. Even without powers, you were skilled. The first time you fought crime (though it was an accident and just sudden.) You wore a black surgical mask, and got in the fight scene. There, Spiderman himself saw you before you ran away.
„ Who are you? ”
. . . .
„ Whatever you wanted it to be, Spider. ”
You said, masked appearance as you stepped to the edge of the building falling elegantly but not to your death. At first, people thought you had powers but it was debunked by yourself. Tony met you— He never realized you were his kid until he met your parents. The woman he hooked up with years ago, and her now husband.
It was awkward at first but he shoved it off his shoulders. Ever since then, he has tried to restore a relationship. It was awkward between you two at first but you've gone from teammates to friends. Sure, Tony was relieved but he still felt like he wasn't doing enough. Especially when your step father(Mother's husband) would come with your mother. You even called him dad, he thought it was preposterous to him. He wasn't your real dad.
After years in the battlefield.. the world was at peace, but of course it wasn't always gonna be like this so you finally decided to marry your s/o this time of year. You met them having your career as a superhero, and you were so proud of them.. you were so lucky to have them in your life. It took him a slap to the face and Pepper to realize he was actually just jealous.. he was in denial.
Of course, every Avenger was invited. Close friends too.. and especially family. It was a small wedding, no big things.. but the venue was perfect for the two of you. Everyone attended with a plus 1, as the invitation suggested. As the ceremony began.. the usual traditional stuff happened. But one thing made Tony's heart drop.
Your step father was the one who was walking you down the aisle to your groom. It was awakening something in him.. of course, he's proud and happy for you. But when he saw that scene.. that moment, he felt like ripping your father's soul apart from his body. But he quickly shook away the thought. As the beautiful ceremony ended, he didn't stay for the feast. Pepper noticed when he wasn't near the tables and went to the parking lot to see him near the car, sitting by himself.
She knew Tony too much, she already knew what was happening. She sat beside him and took his hand to her palm.
“ Feel like shit, Pepper.. ”
“ I know. ”
It took a few more exchange of words before he just cried to her chest, she didn't expect the conversation to go like that but she was glad he wasn't bottling up his emotions.
He feels like shit, he really does. He knows he doesn't have the right to walk you down the aisle— but it hurts so much. He does see you as a kid, he really did. But he can't just.. reverse years of absence just by a year. He can't blame you.. you're just living your life.
He never wanted to become like his father. He wanted to show he cared, but.. sometimes you just.. become what you don't want to become.
I've been getting ideas I just needed to write. Again, I'm just getting back to the writing industry and I'm still very rusty.. but I hope you like my attempt at angst:)
As usual, Thank you so much for reaching the end and I hope you have a great day.

thoughts on stephen having peter as his biological child? might not be your taste, but we'll see 🙏🏻) -🪐
Love love love it!!🤩🤩🤩
Peter is Stephen and Christine’s only child, but they divorced when Peter was only 2. Now Peter spends one week with his dad, and then the next with his mom. It works out well considering Stephen and Christine both work at the hospital, so they can work more when they don’t have Peter with them.
Peter would like for his parents to be together, but he also appreciates the quality time he gets with each of them. As soon as school ends, either his mom or dad will be there to pick him up so they can do fun things. The park, the cinema, the mall, museums, waterparks etc.
But then, there’s a new boy coming to Peter’s class at school. One named Harley and he seems very shy. Peter is intrigued though and volunteers to be Harley’s friend and show him around. It turns out Harley’s parents are also divorced, but it happened just a year ago.
Peter and Harley become good friends very quickly💗💗
