"You panic the girl, so she panics Flanagan, so he panics his contacts."
"If it works."
"Bit hard on the girl."
"Tough. Shouldn't get engaged to spies."

Cover Girl Killer (1959)
"Eh, what sort of picture you going to make?"
"There's been a murder case in the newspapers recently... the cover girl case."
"Could be good."
"You sound doubtful, Mr. Ross. Surely sex and horror are the new gods in this polluted world of so-called entertainment. And you cannot deny that this case is a surfeit of both."
#cover girl killer#1959#british cinema#crime film#films i done watched#terry bishop#harry h. corbett#felicity young#spencer teakle#victor brooks#bernadette milnes#christina gregg#john barrard#charles lloyd pack#dermot kelly#alan edwards#tony doonan#tony thawnton#julie shearing#paddy joyce#a tense little b movie thriller. it's surprisingly sleazy for the era. no nudity or anything but the whole feel is quite... exploitative#corbett was always going to be the most interesting thing about this and he is. the man was a damn fine actor who got waylaid by comedy#for some that's the making of them. for corbett i always got the feeling it broke him a bit. he was a celebrated stage actor on his way to#stardom before steptoe. ho hum. he's very very good here. very creepy and chameleon as he transforms himself into characters to hide himsel#the key failure of the film is that after a strong start corbett is sidelined for teakle to be the standard hero lead. corbett is infinitel#more interesting and frustratingly we never really learn which corbett is the real one. he does a lot with an underwritten character but it#really would have benefitted from fleshing him out a bit more. by the end of the film we're none the wiser to his real motives or what set#him on the course of murder. still its a pacey little film with some fine moments of creepiness and tension. young is very likable as the#female lead but again she's absent for much of the middle of the film. teakle isn't bad exactly. he's just not as strong as the actors#around him. charles lloyd pack gets a brief cameo playing against type as a wounded veteran. not a bad film at all but couldve been stronge

Interpol Calling: The Absent Assassin (1.38, ITC, 1960)
"I don't suppose you remember me."
"I'm sorry, who did you say was calling?"
"I didn't say. But perhaps you remember my letter, sentencing you to death. This is to tell you the execution will take place today - at your apartment."

"Do you think the girl played a part?"
"Well, the two things tie up. She drew the crowd - he drew the gun."
