Toby: What are you supposed to do when you… Like someone?
Tim: Well, normal people usually tell their crush that they like them.
Toby: People actually confess their feelings?
Tim: Uh, yeah? What do you do?
Toby: I die? What kind of question is that.

Thinking about the fact that most of Tims character arch is based around him actually dealing with the things from his past
Like a major part of tims character is his denial of the things that happened to him-- his repression of memories, chalking things up to hallucinations, suffering in silence, brushing off any concern from those around him ("Tim what's that?" "Just some medicine I need to take" "Are you sick, do you need to go home?" "No I'm fine.") The fact that he never mentioned his medical history or his time at the hospital to Jay until he was basically forced to.
And what was it that finally made him tell Jay about the hospital? The operator directly attacking him and making him relive scenes from his past. It wasn't until he was forced to realize what was at stake, forced to essentially confront the danger he was in by bottling up his past, that he willingly (at least somewhat) shared that information with someone. I do like to think that maybe Tim opened up to Brian in college, but as far as cannon evidence, we only really see Tim willingly talking to Jay about it. Brian knew, sure, but it's just as easy to assume he found that after the fact-- that he caught Tim in the lie, rather than Tim telling him outright.
And Tim really isn't a great liar, either. Like I know we talk about Jay being a little bit of an idiot (rightfully so) but Tim's main course of lying is. The most obvious deflection in the world. When Jay mentions the tape in his house, Tim's response is to immediately deflect ("I'm a little more worried about my house right now.") which would be a smaller thing if Tim wasn't intimately aware of how important it was to find and watch any tapes they possibly could. Tim's only method to coping with things that happen to him and the people around him is through denial, even in times when it would be infinitely more beneficial to acknowledge the issue at hand.
What's even more interesting to me is that Tim is seemingly the only character that makes any genuine progress in fighting against the operator. But that comes with the caveat that Tim is only able to do so when he actually confronts the operator, and by association, the issues of his past.
The only way he and Jay are able to make amends and move on is by Tim telling Jay about the hospital, which was only spurred on by Tim being forced to relive his trauma. Right after Tim tells Jay to stay out his life, he (by force of tta) has a relapse and ends up paired with Jay anyways. The only way he's able to get Jay and himself away from Alex's house in one piece is by literally physically standing up to the operator. In the fight against Alex, the whole time he's being ported around, he is monologuing about his past-- he's finally acknowledging the things that happened to him, that they weren't his fault, that they affect other people, and that violence isn't the answer to dealing with them-- that isolating yourself and denying the truth of what's happening isn't the answer.
And of course this is all tied back to the metaphor of mental illness: the fact that you cannot deny the things that have happened to you if you have any hope of moving on from them. you can't lash out or harm others because of your trauma if you have any hope of moving past it. The reason Jay, Brian, and ultimately Alex all died is because they were incapable of facing their issues head on; they all turned to anger, isolation, violence, and otherwise feeding into what the operator wanted, or alternatively, feeding into the misery spiral of their mental illness, rather than finding healthy coping mechanisms to heal from and move on from it.
God I need to write a full analysis essay about him OKAY I'm ending it here these aren't all my thoughts this doesn't make sense but I'm ending it here thank you for watching goodbye

~~~~~~~~~~
Alex knew Brian and Tim were close. Brian is one of Alex's closest friends, and he knew about Tim a long while before he met the man. Alex first met him when Brian was 'auditioning' for the part of Brian, the main character in his film he was making. (Brian already had the part, in Alex's mind. Alex heavily based the character of his friend, and named the role after him.)
Don't get Alex wrong, Tim was an attractive man. He just… he wasn't Alex's type. He seemed very… nervous, talking to most people, his back stiff and arms crossed. Alex really only saw the man's guard get let down when he was off to the side, having a short, private chat with Brian. And Alex didn't think anything of it — why would he?
No, Alex was far more interested in his long term friend. He had talked to Jay, one time, when it was late into the night. They probably should have been asleep, but instead, Alex was talking about Brian.
"It's just, he gives me the butterflies, like Amy used to," Alex said, laying on his back and staring at the popcorn ceiling of his room.
"So you have a crush on him?" Jay asked, his head tilting to the side, like it always does when he was curious or interested in something. Alex shook his head, "no, I can't have one. I know he swings both ways, but he's my friend. I've known him almost as long as I've known you."
Jay chuckled, leaning back on his elbows, looking to Alex. "That doesn't mean much, dude. If he makes you feel like you felt for Amy, I think that's a pretty big sign," he smiles.
But Alex can't have a crush on Brian, right?
Yeah, the man makes his stomach flip, and pretty, and he makes Alex laugh, and…
Oh.
Oh.
Alex had a crush on Brian.
Alex had a crush on Brian, and Jay was the one who helped him realize.
He let out a groan, blush blooming from his face as Alex tried to hide himself. Jay laughed at him, patting him on his shoulder. "Maybe you should ask him out. It looks like he feels the same for you too, dude."
"I just found out I liked him, I can't just — ask him out like that!" Alex huffed, voice muffled by his hands.
"Why not? Someone else might ask him out first! Imagine if like, he and Sarah got together," Jay laughed quietly, to which Alex groaned again, muttering a 'shut up' and throwing a pillow on him.
Some days have passed now, and Alex could only focus on the fact that he liked Brian. After shooting, Alex had made a plan to ask Brian — er, well, at least tell him. Maybe explain and hope production of Marble Hornets wouldn't be awkward if Alex explained why he couldn't look at Brian without getting flustered.
Once filming for the day was done, Brian and Tim were talking quietly as Seth put the camera away, and Sarah and Jay talked. It was a pretty full day, with all of the crew around. (Sarah even decided to stay and watch after her scenes were done!)
Alex walked over to Brian and Tim, and their conversation pauses as he got closer. "Hey man! What's up?" Brian asks.
"Could I talk to you for a moment? Uh, privately?" Alex asked, and he felt his blush already starting to rise. Brian looks back to Tim, who simply shrugged.
"Yeah, of course. Lead the way!" Brian smiled, and god, was the man pretty. Alex shook his head. The two walked a bit further from the set — out of earshot of everyone else. "Uh, I'm not in trouble or anything, right? Not firing me or anything?" Brian laughs, putting an easy smile on Alex's face.
"No, no. Nothing of the sort. It's, uh…" Alex paused, as if thinking of the words of his scrambled brain. "It's more… personal, I guess."
Brian's eyebrows tilt in concern. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah — It's, yeah." Alex took a deep breath. "Brian, I — I like you."
His face must be so red. He can't make eye contact, instead staring down into the grass. The silence washes over them, and god, Alex ruined everything, didn't he?
"Oh my god," Brian giggles after a second, which felt like an eternity, "God, Alex, I like you too. Did you really not pick up any of the signs?"
"You… what?" Alex feels like his brain broke. Brian liked him too? Brian had been leaving signs?
"Yeah man!" Brian grinned. "I've liked you, for like, forever now. You never did anything so I didn't think you liked me back."
Alex laughs at himself. Of course. "Ah, in that case… are you free this weekend..?"
"Alex Kralie, are you asking me out on a date?"
"If you could be inclined to join me, then… yes?"
"I would love to. I'll have to ask Tim, to see if he's okay with it." Huh? "We've talked briefly about it, but I'll have to double check if we can get serious, too."
"What?" Alex asked. "Why — Why do you have to ask Tim?"
Brian's eyebrows now curl in confusion. "Because… me and Tim are dating?"
"What?"
Brian giggles, breath whistling quietly from the gap in his teeth. "Me and Tim have been together for like, two or three years!"
"And you — you didn't tell anyone?" Embarrassment and shame flushes through Alex. He asked out a taken man.
"We… we did, didn't we?" Brian says, seemingly to himself. "I thought we did. Was it not obvious? I've literally gushed about him for hours."
"I just— I thought you guys were friends — Sorry, I should go—" Alex was about to turn around and leave, but Brian took his hand into his own.
"Hey, dude, it's fine. I'm poly, y'know? I have two hands. I like you too, did you just forget that?" Brian giggles lightly. "Please don't run away from me 'cause of this, Alex. I'm like, ninety-nine percent sure Tim's okay with this."
They talked it out, talked to Tim, and everything was okay.
And, well, besides.
Brian does have two hands for a reason.
Pie || Tim x Reader. You bake Tim his favorite dessert
It’s not often that Tim feels drawn to the kitchen by a delicious smell. The only people other than him who are great at cooking in the mansion usually are Slender and Jane, and both of them are out on missions right now, leaving him both confused and intrigued by the delicious smell wafting up through the vents, until Tim finally places the smell; apple pie. Unable to resist the temptation, he makes his way downstairs to peek quickly into the kitchen, but he wasn’t expecting the sight before him.
You're bent over the kitchen island, trying to make sure the dessert before you looks as delicious as it smells, flour coating your form despite the fact that you have one of Tim's nice aprons covering most of your body. You go to wipe some sweat off your brow, but that only serves to smear some flour across your forehead. He can't help but inwardly laugh, imagining you standing there watching it bake in the oven with so much trepidation that you can't even get cleaned up while it bakes. As much as he wanted to stay hidden and keep watching from a distance you glance up, spot him by the door, and look at him like a deer in headlights.
"I didn't think you'd be down yet." Is all you can manage to say, causing him to chuckle as he makes his way over to you.
"How could I resist the temptation of such a delicious smell?" A smile decorates his face as he stands beside you, looking down at the quite large apple pie in front of you, his hands resting on his hips.
Slender has some larger pans for when he wants to bake one thing for everyone, and it seems that was the pan you believed would be best. Tim glances at you, and you avoid making eye contact, choosing instead to stare down at the pie before you. It's noticeable that it was your first time baking such a large pie, as the lattice design you chose to do doesn't quite fit correctly, but despite that, the pie looks quite nice and smells wonderful. Tim's stomach growls, agreeing with him on that, and he can't help but laugh along with you at the noise.
"May I try a bite?" The question leaves him with a smile, and you can't help but shift nervously before him.
"If you really want to... I wanted to make something yummy for you since you're always doing so much for me, but I wasn't sure how well it would turn out." Your voice is unconfident, and Tim shakes his head at you, wrapping his arms around you in a comforting hug, not minding as the flour covering you spreads to him as well.
"Honey, it smells incredible. Even if it didn't, you know I'd eat it. Anything made by you is well worth eating, trust me." He presses a soothing kiss to your temple, and you can't help but sigh as you lean into him. Tim always had a way of relaxing you, and you felt the exhaustion of making such a big pie hitting you as your arms wrapped around his waist.
"If you really think you'll like it, feel free to each as much as you want." You acquiesce to him, letting go of him to cut him a slice.
Tim couldn't help but lick his lips as he watched you, grabbing a nearby plate and fork, holding the plate out to you as you delicately set the still steaming piece of pie onto it for him. You watched him anxiously, hands clasped in front of you as you breathed in deeply. He took quite a hefty first bite, chewing thoughtfully as he considered the taste, a large smile coming to his lips, nodding his head in excitement at the flavor. The tension leaves your body as you return his smile, thankful that you succeeded in making something delicious.
"You really like it?" You ask him, your smile growing as he nods at you again.
"I told you it would be well worth eating, sweetheart." He said through another mouthful of pie, and you couldn't help but laugh at him, leaping forward to wrap your arms around him in another hug. A noise of surprise slipped out of him as he lifted his plate up so you could hug him, and he smiled down at you affectionately, patting your head with his other hand.
He reassured you as he continued eating, making comments on all the wonderful things you did while making it, like how perfectly you sliced the apples, and how you got the seasoning just right. He finished the piece without a single complaint, patting you on the head and pressing an apple flavored kiss to your lips as thanks for the meal, smiling at you lovingly as a few small giggles slipped out of you. Unbeknownst to you, however, a mischievous grin made its way onto his face as he pulled you closer.
"Although, I think there's only one thing that's more delicious than the pie..." You blinked up at him in surprise at his statement, preparing to question him on what he meant, but before you could, you let out a gasp as he scooped you off the floor and into his arms.
"And I've got it right here!" He yelled out, laughing as he took off sprinting for the stairs, your body bouncing up and down as he went, laughs tumbling out of you as you tried to cling onto him.
May i suggest
DID Tim and OSDD Brian, but neither told the other about them being a system- but some of their alters DEFINITELY know and told each other
Which in Brians case would likely lead to him knowing eventually
But the funniest thing to me is
As a system, I form factives of real people I find generally safe, and this includes partners and friends
So imagine:
Tim and Brian hanging out together and they switch around the same time, and suddenly its Alter Tim in Brians body and Alter Brian in Tims body
And theyre both trying to hide it, because “what if they find it weird and get mad at me”
But after a few “that was weirdly familiar”s it eventually reaches the point where they just go:
Alter Brian: “Tim-?”
Alter Tim: “……Brian-????”
Hehehe idk
As a system, i like this concept
