Mannn, I thought the new HBO series was going to take out HP Fanfic. Who knew the fandom would start to eat itself and cause its own demise with bad manners regarding reader entitlement and a lack of awareness supporting illegal profits from book binding😮‍💨.
It's wild to think people would pay hundreds of dollars for something that is kindly posted for free. I know some of you mods are authors. Thank you all for what you do and your MASSIVE contributions to this fandom.
In the last few days I've seen so much talk about this. I believe some authors have started that they were removing their fics from AO3? Which sparked all this talk.
For those who don't know, many authors are having their work downloaded and bound into a physical book and being sold. They are not being informed of this. They do not get contacted for permission, nor do they see any money from the sale.
Someone just decided to take a popular fic, one that got some traction on tiktok, and make it into a book and sell it for money. The original author is clueless of this happening.
Previously, in this fandom, some small bookbinding business owners would reach out to the authors and ask permission to bind a copy of the fanfic for their own use. They were granted that permission. They would post about it, and other people wanted the same. Those bookbinders then reached out to their author for permission to sell the bound copies and informed the author of the price they were selling to for. They only made a profit on the materials and labour.
Now, things have changed, especially since fanfiction and dramione fanfiction, in particular, have gotten super popular on tiktok.
People have realized that they can make a quick buck and sell physical copies of works. Even if it is illegal. YES selling fanfiction is illegal.
Fanfiction comes from another author's intellectual property. You can make fanfiction and post about it because you can not and will not make money off of it. If you do, the original author can take you to court. These bookbinders are selling fanfiction, and they are gonna get everyone in trouble if a traditionally published author decided to look into this. With how easy it is for someone's video to go viral on tiktok and how many authors are using tiktok, it's not impossible for this to come their way.
Right now, it seems these bookbinders are only on tiktok and etsy.
If you see people selling fanfiction, report them.
If you go on the dramione, tag here on Tumblr, you will see lots of chats about this, especially from authors themselves. Take some time to read it and follow some guidelines that they suggested to help combat these sales.
(PS: Our author mods are not active at the moment, you can reach out to them personally on their Tumblr pages to express your support!)

Ok, I know i'm supposed to use this blog for art, and i'll get back to that eventually, but; Can we just take a moment to point out how drastically different Duelist kingdom Kaiba is from Battle city Kaiba?
Tumblr media
Because, like, this Kaiba? Still very much a *kid*. Don't forget that the first time we see him, they're all in *high school*. Timeline wise, if we consider DsoD, he's like no older than 16-16 1/2 at this point. He's only been a CEO for like, 5 years max, and the majority of that time was spent restructuring *e v e r y t h i n g*.
This Kaiba has really only had to deal with adults and their crap from the perspective of bureaucratic mind games up until now. His greatest concerns up until now were like, his board members overthrowing him. Here, in duelist kingdom, he has a real grown human being holding the only person he has left to care about hostage.
That would shake the fuck out of *any* 16 year old, but Kaiba doesn't....He doesn't have time to feel things about it in the moment. It isn't until after we see Mokuba retrieved that he lets up even a little. Or in that last scene, where his posture slips into a more human and far less ridged state. He lets his shoulders down finally and lets expression back onto his face.
But *This* Kaiba? *Battle city* Kaiba?
Tumblr media
He's still a kid, realistically, but he's trying harder than ever not be perceived that way. Duelist kingdom stayed with him, and its evident in many ways. First of all, Yugi and crew saw him being soft towards his brother. Nope. Not allowed. *Backpedal*, but not to hard. Second, the idea is out there, in a bigger way than before, that his brother is just as good a target. *Nope*. Mokuba will now be tethered to his side for the foreseeable future until the primary threats are eliminated. *Understandable, have a nice day.*
Beyond his behavior regarding his brother, He's stiff again. All the time, just about. Boi doesn't even allow himself to slouch a little in front of his own computer (outside of resting against the desk). He carries himself higher, makes a greater point to look down at people to see them. His white coat makes him look taller (older?). He's a lot quicker about using his money to make flashy statements (Helicopter, buying a car, jet pack, ya'know). Hell, the way he chooses to hold the Battle city tournament is a bold statement of power. Who borderline shuts down a city to hold a card game tournament except for the guy with the money and influence.
It isn't until he has to confront his childhood trauma *in front of everyone* that we see the Kaiba of duelist kingdom resurface. He's *terrified*, not just as a response to the trauma playing out in front of him, but again for the potential to lose his brother. And he's still trying to maintain this tough guy shit he's been putting on. But when the touching sibling moments are over, and it's time to get the hell out of dodge? Tough guy business Kaiba snaps back into place. *Hard*. His actions become even more closed off, outside of Yugi and Mokuba, anyway.
Idk. I have a lot of thoughts. I'm an eldest sibling myself and I see a lot of things in my own life (as far as general trauma and reactions) mirrored. I wish people saw more of the nuance in him rather than bashing him bc "lawl rich jerk w/ no emotions". But I suppose I also envy, slightly, the type of upbringing you must have had to not be able to see it. What a pleasure it must be to not relate.

Soooo how y'all doing? Honestly. Tell me everything. How y'all feeling about dramione? The fandom? Hopeful for the future? Uncertain? Let it all out.
I don't know if you're asking this question directly in relation to what's happening right now, but I do want to say that the fandom is strong. Every day we're getting new shippers--people who are reading the books to their kids, or teenagers who are reading it for themselves, or even people who have watched the movies and are interested in expanding the story. So I don't see Dramione going away any time soon. It is, I believe, the second or third largest ship in the fandom, after Drarry and maybe Harmony.
A few years ago, people got upset that their stuff was being reposted to other sites. And this book binding thing has been an issue for almost a decade now. So they're going to continue. And if it's not these issues, it will be other issues. Fanfiction is something that was kind of secret and in the shadows in the past, and now we're seeing so many stories turned into books (50 Shades of Grey, The Maze Runner) and movies (The Kissing Booth, Mea Culpa). So people aren't nearly as embarrassed as they used to be about sharing that they read this stuff, and being vocal about it is also going to bring more fans in, and ultimately more authors.
So I'm super hopeful and very proud of everyone that puts themselves out there to write a story, or review a story, or share a story with a friend, because you're helping us grow as a ship.

Anyway that poll about pet peeves on Tumblr where everyone's like, "I hate when people write random, unnecessary things on my posts. they're so annoying 😗" and a handful of other made up rules.
95% of Tumblr users are already socially awkward and/or anxious and you're just validating their fears by saying they're annoying. And then you'll wonder why it's hard to make friends on here. Superiority complexes istg. You're on the weirdo website pleaseee

WEEOO WEEOO! NPMD HOT TAKE INCOMING!
There are people who say that the pro shot of Hatchet Town takes them out of the show but FIRST OF ALL, THAT'S MY SON-
Second: How? Literally how? It brings in characters that we KNOW are in the universe and sure, maybe it's weird, maybe they don't turn up again, maybe you're like me and hadn't seen Perky's Buds before NPMD and therefore had zero clue who Ziggs was, but they're still all canon to the universe and it's cool we had Gerald.
You wanna know what took me out of the show?
"Nerdy prudes must die! Nerdy prudes must die-ie-ie!" (Same for DDMD)
It was so out of left field? We've already had the "oh he said the title of the show" line when he died, why'd he need to say it again? Jeff absolutely killed it with the songs, yes, but this line? It threw me way off.
I'mma say it: I didn't like the song at first. Really didn't. Was also disappointed it got reprised, despite having to replay that last line because CHILLS amirite?
On re-listening to the soundtrack (and watching a lot of fan NPMD content) the rest of the song is a banger and it's so good and Will's voice is spectacular and poor Richie man :(( but also...I still cringe at the line. It's also cool how Grace reprised the "who will pray for you?" with all her religious imagery, but why'd she have to reprise that one line too? You could have had her say the line as if she was writing it down to mirror how Max said it when he died to symbolise her innocent/old self dying, but no, we had to have the weirdly stilted, shoved in, too-many-syllables-for-that-note line of "Dirty dudes must die!"
But hey, I'm not mad with Grace's version of the song, I actually prefer it a little over the original despite how hard the original goes and I'm not saying NPMD (the song) is BAD, it's just that that line really broke me out of the show. It was the ONLY thing I remembered of the song on first listen and I hated it.

I don’t hate the rebuilds nor do I think they are the evangelion equivalent of the Star Wars sequels.
But I do think that if the rebuilds were all that we ever had of Evangelion, that I wouldn’t like Evangelion at all.
I like the idea of the Rebuilds as thematic sequel to NGE and EoE and I think Shinji’s character development reached the place I always wanted him to be, however the way they did it was unsatisfactory and left a bunch of butchered characters and relationships in its trail. To me, the Rebuilds can only work so far as they are contrasted with NGE and EoE
My biggest fault of the rebuild is that they were pitched to stand alone as a retelling of NGE, but they failed to do that. The blatant sexualization of the girls is so gross, too. Sure, Kaworu is shirtless and naked on the moon, but he is only ever shown with his lower half obscured. Meanwhile, in the final movie, we get to see fully nude Mari and fully nude Asuka. In a shot where Asuka rolls over in bed, we see her panties/crotch. Many scenes are from behind, so we can see the form-fitting clothing show off butts, or the scene starts below the character and pans up their bodies. It's so male gaze and very uncomfortable. A friend of mine put it best "In NGE the horny shots are from Shinji's perspective and it makes sense because he is a teenager and dealing with new emotions and hormones, but in the Rebuilds it is just there to sell figures and merch." Then they got messier as time went on with delays and Anno needing a plan for them. Not knowing how to end the series is concerning. The action sequences were fun and great to watch, but anything else was messy to the point where I didn't recognize any of the characters anymore.
The original series is precious and essential to me. It's a great series showcasing psychological storytelling and what depression feels like. The rebuilds lack the visual depression and, in turn, lack what makes Evangelion unique. Plus, the abuse apology is just... so gross. Gendo did not earn forgiveness, nor did he deserve it. He did NOTHING to make amends. He committed war crimes, and Shinji is like, "it's cool dad, I know you are sad like me." Ya, I'm sad, too, and I haven't committed genocide, Shinji! Maybe it's because I'm an abuse survivor, but that really made me mad.

Is it just me, or...
When, Sophie was out with Taylor and friends (like, when they have dinner two-gether and when she was spotted, with her & friends at a match of Travis - Tay's new beau - at a stadium) there was a lot of fuss, about the kids wellbeing & whereabouts.
Now...
When, Joe is out partying on the shores of Miami, with friends, a beer and a blondie in bikini... There's literally, nothing from people abt the kids wellbeing & other stuff.
I'm not a fan of Daily Mail, but they are the ones who spotted him on a yacht, with a beverage & a blonde, bikini clad lady. The same Joe who's "support system" was blamed Sophie for, being what she isn't. Cuz, she said many times that, she's a homebody, while Joe not. Well, when Sophie is out with friends - especially, Taylor aka one of Joe's exes - people, went wild and literally momshamed her. While, Willa and Delphine were with Joe at tour, wait what? Honestly, I'm more concerned for their wellbeing, at tour with Dad. Especially, because their age - Willa is 3, while Delphine is 1. - they should be, with some more responsible parent, than the one who take them to his tour. ((I Know That There Were Family, But... Their, Mom Weren't.)) So, we does not "Dad Shame" Joe-y Boy, but Momshame someone, who was at work on set in the UK & after that dined with a friend and have some fun. Like, we are in the medieval times & moms didn't have fun till, their kids grown up, because it's so bad. No, it's not. We all need, some fun & recharge our social batteries to cope with life. Who doesn't, those should stfu. The girl, deserved it. The J-Fam are a bit of toxic, you know... Ok, whatever I said, what I said. Hope, Sophie find a tall, handsome guy who man enough to be with her, more than "Mr. Perfectly Fine". 😉

So I went to see Kung Fu Panda 4 today. It wasn’t that bad, I actually liked it despite parts of it being predictable and a little disappointing. The antagonist was pretty cool.
One thing I wanna say tho that idk how many people will agree with…
🚨SPOILERS AHEAD🚨
Po’s dads are gay af.
The amount of times they said “our baby” and “our son” had me thinking that through the entire movie.
And I loved how Ping and Li were so worried about each other when they were in danger, it was really adorable.
I do wish they could’ve helped more during the climax tho. Ngl I thought one of them would die

i like putting my thoughts on tweets i see on here bc its less scary so here's another one LOL
i've seen a lot of discourse over boycotting the qsmp because of the recent stuff with the volunteers/workers not getting paid and i think both yes and no!
a lot of people have been against it with the claim that "boycotting is counterproductive because then the server isn't making any money to pay the workers" but in actuality, and forgive me if im wrong, but wouldn't that ONLY matter if quackity is the one you are watching? and he doesn't even stream that much in the first place (not that he owes it to anyone). so whether or not you do or don't watch tubbo, pac, bagi, whoever would literally do nothing to affect the amount of money the qsmp is earning unless quackity takes a cut from the streamers streams? but i doubt that and i doubt the streamers he invited pay anything to play, too.
i think boycotting would definitely get the point of "hey, we aren't gonna watch until you compensate those you have [unknowingly] wronged!" obviously the reformation process is going to be slow but PERSONALLY i think fixing the issues before opening the server should have been the way to go especially if it's being rebuilt from the ground up and the server has already essentially been created to revolve not only around the ccs but the admins as well.
on the same token, those who have spoken out about their experiences have explicitly said to continue to support the project because even if there are individuals who aren't being fairly compensated, you're still supporting the time and effort they've put into making the server what it is!
just my thoughts on the whole thing. i still think the server should have remained closed longer especially if they were on track to closing down completely. obviously we don't know whats actually going on behind the scenes but hopefully everything is moving smoothly and there's more communication all around! i can't imagine being stuck in the dark about everything.
(i've always thought the way it was emphasized that the position was volunteer was a little strange because it DID feel like exploitation of fans for free labor but hopefully the reformation will get everything solved and people can get fairly compensated for their time and effort!!)

Do you have any insight into whether "commissioned" art is being inappropriate or illegal in the fandom world. I often see fanart "commissioned" for fanfiction, bookbinding, podfics, etc. Is this implying that an artist is being paid?
This one is more tricky.
Yes, the artist gets their general idea from the books and characters, but it's their interpretation of them.
A person just coming across the art will not immediately know what the art is based on. They won't immediately know the artist drew/painted these particular characters from this particular book.
Unless the artist uses the art style of the illustrations from the books, it's not seen as plagiarism or illegal.
There are many people who sell art inspired by Disney, and they make a living off it. A while ago, George R. R. Martin created a new book in his A Song of Fire and Ice series, and paid to use original art work from fans, inspired by the series over the years in the book instead of hiring an illustrator.
People who pay for Dramione art are not doing anything wrong. It's legal. Artists who take commissions are technically not doing anything illegal.
What some bookbinders do, however, is take art from artists without permission. Over on the Dramione tag, many artists are complaining about that. Bookbinding is affecting them too as their art is being stolen and sold.

Unpopular Opinion
As we all know by now, all the overconsumption and thereby perpetuation of capitalism, is mainly caused by people and governments in the global north and imperial core. i.e rich and middle class people, mainly in the West (and to an extent recently north east Asia)
Ideally we should focus on getting those exact people opted out of the system and cycle of capitalism asap since they are causing the most damage via having the most power to participate in it. Material consumption as status signifying and comfort seeking needs to be replaced with community and organised mutual aid.
Sorry to put it bluntly but as we know as well, people in the global south who are in poverty are actually not causing that much pollution or damage via overconsumption, because they don't have the means to. They still need and deserve help and reparations of course, no question, but in terms of saving the climate and eco systems, it's important to stop the main source of the most damage
I am not of the, in my opinion naive belief that change can be made on a government level, it's simply too corrupt and bloated with bureaucracy, apathy and incompetence. We need to start building our own decentralised allied systems outside it

Hot take
tfp Starscream is one of the most complex characters out of the whole show who had the most developed story line– not to mention had one of the greatest and most interesting character arc. And he had potential be better then Megatron and even Optimus if the writters hadn't fumbled his story towards the end of the show.

MADRE SOLO HAY DOS SPOILERS
(otherwise known as just my thoughts on the third season). Don't read if you haven't watched it yet! :)
*******************
1. I, too, binged it while hiding from my family on Christmas.
2. Though in fact I only binged the Ana/ Mariana plotline and skipped over pretty much everything else.
3. What were the guys even doing? I don't know.
4. I liked how Ana became more involved in the LGBTQ community, learning about it and confronting her own stereotypes, but also learning about very real discrimination that had never affected her before.
5. I also liked the (brief) exploration of her sexuality and how she became super supportive of Ceci, because Ana finally understands that life is a journey.
6. However, to anyone saying that Ana is a lesbian now... do you not know how bisexuals or pansexuals work?? I'd call her queer, but not a lesbian because that's just not accurate.
7. My favourite scene was perhaps the one where Ana told Mariana about the book she wants to write one day (if anyone maybe wants to gif it?). Yes it was cheesy but it was also VERY GOOD.
8. I agree with previous opinions that Mariana's side of this story however was underdeveloped. There should have been some hints of her returning feelings for Ana and less Ferran.
9. Ferran was just randomly axed to make space for Ana, right? I mean, I'm not complaining.
10. Ana in love was very cute.
11. Ana and Mariana covering each other with blankets on separate occasions was also very cute.
12. Did anyone else notice that for the final scene, Mariana wore a necklace with a lock on it, and Ana one with a key??? Seems symbolic to me.
13. I wasn't a hundred percent sure if they were actually together at the end?? Because the way Mariana said "I love you too" and then that very brief kiss kinda felt ambiguous to me?
14. Anyways I guess they're in a long distance relationship now. But I still would have liked a clearer signal (and more kissing).
15. I don't mind that the final focus was on Tere and her baby because I actually think this entire family is a beautiful message. It's messy as hell but they all ended up where they wanted to be.
16. It's a suitable end in case this was the final season.
17. MSHD went where OUAT did not dare to go. Kudos for that.

I had two Overwatch ideas tonight and my friend (a regular OW player) said that they were actually good. I am not an OW player, but I do watch him play and sometimes watch extra content when I don't.
1) When falling off the map, if Roadhog has his hook ability off cool down, then he should be able to latch onto the edge and slowly pull himself back up, leaving time for people to see the hook and break it before Hog gets back up.
2) When firing in someone's face at point blank range, Junker Queen's gun should be able to set people on fire for a few seconds as she has a fire effect at the end of her gun every single time a shot is fired.
Imagine me having good ideas whaa?

I wish the final Evangelion movie had been satisfying, but it wasn't. Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 should have made me feel great; it was the ending of new Evangelion movies, a conclusion to an epic retelling. And yet, beyond the initial adrenaline, it fell flat for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rebuild series was ultimately disappointing and lacklustre beyond having great action scenes. The more I think about the films (especially the last two), the more I think of small ways they could have easily been improved. Removing the pandering sexualization of girls and women, adding context for scenes, and proper backstories would have gone a long way. I missed the psychological elements that endeared me to the original Neon Genesis Evangelion and the characterization of women as flawed and capable people. The Angels and Evas felt more like they sprinkled in flavour in the Rebuilds, and Seele and Yui could have easily been omitted altogether. Yui could have been replaced with almost anything; she was stripped down to "my wife is dead." Rei and Asuka were hollow echoes of their former selves; their identities were reduced to love interests there to help Shinji advance and not much else. Maybe the point was to reduce the female characters of Evangelion to plastic replicas without personality and life to induce self-awareness in the fanbase, but if that was the case pandering to the fans with overtly sexualized merchandise and queerbaiting muddle the messaging.
Tumblr media
Evangelion is and always will be a messy series of contradictions. But the flaws of the rebuilds and the absence of the" we need to improve and work with the world we have" messaging of NGE stood out for me. The biggest disappointment was the ending. It was very "and everything is fine now" without a proper resolution. It was too tidy and a magical fix. It played into the idea in Neon Genesis Evangelion that "getting rid of the Evangelion is just another form of running away."
Tumblr media
The End of Evangelion was about hope, everything seemed lost and done, and yet humans still existed and had the potential to return and try again if they so chose. Rebuild if Evangelion was more of a "so if we just magically get rid of the problem, everything is fine," which was ultimately disappointing.
Tumblr media
I mean, just looking at a few scenes, I feel moved; it feels natural to me. Hurt and pain, disappointment and failure, battered and broken, and yet... There is hope to try again. We still have epic battles, but we also get characterization and can connect strongly with the characters. The End of Evangelion was not afraid to get intense, to go over the line (sometimes to a detriment), but it wasn't afraid to show us the lowest of the low before explaining we could always choose to come back. Never forget “Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy. As long as the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth exist, everything will be all right.”
Tumblr media
Ultimately, we are all looking for connection, even at the risk of rejection.
